Reviews for Noel Arms - "A Bespoke Hotel"

Review 1:Tired 1980s décor in the bedroom. Expensive for what it was and staff for whom service was a foreign language - in fact, for many it actually was.

Review 2:Great location in the centre of the town.

Review 3:The restaurant. It seems the Asian head cook does curries best (although chicken tikka masala is hardly authentic Indian); we wanted proper food but it came covered in a sweet gloop. Much better places to eat in Chipping Campden

Review 4:The town-centre location, the nice clean room, the choice at breakfast, the car park. Our heating was broken but was fixed in double-quick time; we overlooked the car park and one of the car alarms kept going off – the receptionist sorted that out very efficiently, too.

Review 5:ive stayed here many times and always have found it well run and comfortable. Although I don t always eat here. But the breakfasts are excellent . The staff seems to change often but are well trained and very pleasant.

Review 6:Staff were really friendly, let me park in the car park a few hours before I was due to check in. Breakfast was enjoyable and bundled in with the price of the room

Review 7:Our room was lovely but it did smell damp. It maybe worth putting some plug in scent or equivalent as it is quite a strong smell when you walk in!

Review 8:The restaurants food was excellent & friendly service!

Review 9:The food. Especially the breakfast which was poor quality and not value for money. Hovis toast? What's that all about? Cardboard and soggy.

Review 10:The town

Review 11:The room was a bit hot.

Review 12:Large comfortable room and excellent food, the staff were cheery and helpful without being pushy. The christmas decorations were tasteful and understated. Town centre location with ample parking. No need to drive to see the interesting buildings, galleries and shops.

Review 13:States that as a guest of this hotel you can use the spa, however when contacted, the spa said they only allow the people paying for treatments to have priority and because they were busy we could not use their facilities

Review 14:Great location, nice cosy bedroom, brilliant breakfast!!

Review 15:Three things. The local radio playing in the bar didn't seem right for an old country hotel in the Cotswolds. Adverts for tyres and lots of Christmas sale ads did but produce an atmosphere that was as calm, warm and homely as it should have been. My burger at £13.50 should have been amazing. Instead was simultaneously overlooked on the outside yet undercooked on the inside. Third the staff were all very young and didn't seem that experienced. They lacked attentiveness, attention to detail and care.

Review 16:Nice room, very clean. Terrific breakfast and a nice bar.

Review 17:Family Room was not value for money. Loud staff radio played until midnight, this could be heard loud and clear in all parts of the room. Had to call reception about this to get it switched off. No warm water from shower.this was the night after our wedding and meant to be special. #disappointing stay

Review 18:Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Food was second too none. First class food.

Review 19:No bad experience but it was expensive. We have stayed in hotels with same facilities for cheaper cost.

Review 20:Location and the hotel itself, the lay out. It has character. Very good breakfast.

Review 21:The only problem we had was the size of the double bed (Room 7). The mattress is aging which did not help. It is the smallest we have experienced in the hotel and we have stayed many times.

Review 22:We enjoy staying at the hotel. The staff are friendly and the breakfast good. We will happily stay there again

Review 23:Room was lovely. Bed so comfortable. Bathroom clean and always hot water readily available. Food was excellent and service friendly and efficient.

Review 24:i liked that although the hotel was very old with lots of character it had a lot of modern touches. it was a nice size, not too big but enough for a lovely atmosphere, it had a lovely relaxing feel to it. A perfect hidden gem with an amazing restaurant.

Review 25:Hotel staff were polite but impersonal. Service was exceptionally slow during evening meal.

Review 26:The location of this hotel is excellent for walking straight out into the High St and in easy reach of local independant shops, art galleries, restaurants, tea & cake shops and other facilities.

Review 27:Very old and very high 4 poster bed in room 4....required the use of small and slightly wonky stools so we could climb on to the mattress. Bedroom floor sloped seriously and the bed head was much lower than the foot of the bed. Bed should have been propped to prevent this. Bed mattress sagged very badly. Room was very dark even on a bright sunny afternoon and should have had a reading lamp near the armchairs. Quality of furniture in the room was poor. The use of an antique bed, cupboard, side tables etc is lovely as long as they are in good condition. The desk chair and armchairs were just old and tatty. Friend's towel rail in room 1 was broken and not fixed during stay despite promises from staff. TV in room 1 was also broken. Staff were disengaged at check out and did not even inquire whether we had enjoyed our 2 night visit.

Review 28:Perfect position in Chipping Campden's High St. Easy parking and reliable wifi. Atmospheric historic hotel.

Review 29:We had a family room with a separate bunk bed area (with no door, which was slightly odd). It does need an update at some point - but then again that is part of the charm of these old inns.

Review 30:Gorgeous old pub with a lot of character; great central location. Excellent food (great curries and steaks), including the option of a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast. The staff were lovely and looked after our baby monitor in the evening when it didn't extend to the restaurant area. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 31:Nothing

Review 32:Quirky bedroom with bare stone walls, plenty of space with excellent bed which included character period drapes but very good modern en suite bathroom. Excellent English breakfast and dinner but with superb Asian options by the Asian Chef. Excellent location in centre of Chipping Campden which also provided convenient centre to explore the rest of the Cotswolds.

Review 33:Breakfast Coffee and Tea poor quality, therefore not nice!. However, the waitress kindly replaced the coffee from the coffee machine.

Review 34:Chipping Camden and surrounding area and villages we always enjoy the Cotswolds. The Eight Bells a great Sunday Roast of Pork with the most appealing and tasty vegetables.

Review 35:The only down side was having only one night there. We will return for a longer stay in the future.

Review 36:We booked our room last minute and was extreamly pleased with the room and the location of the hotel.

Review 37:The plug in the sink in there Bathroom didn't work properly !!!

Review 38:The room was more than we expected it to be . Good location and excellent service at breakfast .

Review 39:Avoid room 22 It`s next to the kitchen door and right outside the entrance was broken glass, a mouse trap, rat trap and ant trap , hardly a great way to your room ! The room itself was ok but the carpet was shabby and covered in dog hairs and the room generally needed re decorating. It wasn`t the standard you expect for £130.00 per night. 6am in the morning we were woken by the kitchen staff arriving , then various deliveries to the kitchen which made for a rude awakening so early in the morning.

Review 40:Good central location.

Review 41:Our room was very comfortable but not very private as anyone from the car park could look through the windows and cars parked right up by these windows. Fine for just the one night but this would not have been ideal for a longer stay, having to have the blinds drawn all the time.

Review 42:The location was excellent for walking around Chipping Campden and free parking was also a bonus. The evening meal was delicious.

Review 43:Maintenance was lacking Had to leave window open due to heat which made street noise very loud at night.

Review 44:Loved the location and free parking. Wifi was great!

Review 45:The stair carpet ought to be considered for replacement with one of similar pattern, to avoid any potential hazards.

Review 46:The character and warmth of the place - so different to a modern 'plain' hotel. Excellent location, on-site parking.

Review 47:The service in the restaurant was generally poor. Waiters not knowing to which table to bring food; being asked what drinks we wanted to order as we were being handed the list of drinks; the apparent inability of one waiter to give even the semblance of a smile; a wait on one occasion of 47 minutes from arrival to receiving our first course. (But one young waitress was delightfully friendly and capable. I hope she is appreciated by the management.)

Review 48:The setting of the hotel.

Review 49:The Noel Arms brings together the quirkyness of an historic coaching inn with the comfort of a country house hotel. It's central location was delightful and the staff were impecable, attentive and discrete. An utterly charming place to stay.

Review 50:I didn't think the coffee at breakfast was very good and the toast was 'cheap' bread of the type you can buy in supermarkets. It would have been lovely to have some quality granary bread.

Review 51:I thought all members of staff were really polite, helpful and keen to assist. It was a pleasure to be there and we were made to feel very welcome. The hotel and restaurant are tastefully decorated. The village is idyllic! Mum and I loved it!

Review 52:The annexed rooms don't quite work in inclement weather. I ordered poached eggs and bacon for breakfast, why only one piece of bacon.? Seems a little meagre.?.

Review 53:The location of the Hotel was excellent. Staff were pleasant.Parking was very good.

Review 54:Could not open the windows no extractor fan in the toilet no plug for the hair dryer at the dressing table where mirror was. Hole in the floor under the carpet.

Review 55:The staff very friendly

Review 56:Undoubtedly the staff. They all excelled especially the young man on reception as he went out of his way to welcome us and provided a birthday yellow rose for my husband and made sure it was on our breakfast table.

Review 57:The gentleman in charge of the restaurant was very moody.

Review 58:The four poster bed was brilliant and even had a stool to stand on toget into the bed as it was so high.

Review 59:Wifi a little slow.

Review 60:Everything was really great from the moment we arrived at this lovely unique hotel from the room to the lovely food and very helpful friendly staff we hope to come back and highly recommend this hotel for a wonderful stay

Review 61:Room was less than impressive. Seemed rundown and small for price. Shower room was tiny. Decor is dated and may need updating. Also, staff wasn't real helpful with offering to get our luggage to room. up and down a lot of staircases.

Review 62:Perfect Location. There was a full breakfast included. Pub was nice in the evening. Easy to find. Clean room.

Review 63:My 73 year old sister couldn't sleep because of the noise from the kitchen boiler under her room. She had to call the duty manager up at 0030 hrs. He was very nice and offered her another room, but to move at that time in the morning was not something she could cope with. Needless to say, she had no sleep and was quite distressed by the whole thing. It was such a shame, especially as the trip was a treat for her birthday from me.

Review 64:The friendliness of all the staff - they couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. ~They all seem proud to work at the hotel.

Review 65:Service was dreadful especially at breakfast and in the cafe: one particular waitress was appallingly uninterested; the others just seemed undertrained and undermanaged; tables were uncleared; the bedrooms are dark and poorly lit; spa was overcrowded (on a Saturday)

Review 66:Location in the centre of a beautiful town, very handy for craft and antique shops and pubs, excellent curry and breakfast restaurant choices

Review 67:Shower in room 3 was not high enough for my husband to be able to use. He is not very tall.

Review 68:Free breakfast, which was excellent. Location. Free tea and coffee. Free parking. Good sized room.

Review 69:The staff was untrained and very unprofessional. The room was terribly warm at night, we woke up sweating every morning even inspite of the fan in the room. No hairdryer and no electric socket in the bathroom.

Review 70:Beautiful place and a lovely town. Really nice food at the restaurant. Loved the very nice pastrie shop in the hotel.

Review 71:Kind of a minor thing to me, but carpet on stairs worn out with holes from all the luggage being toted up and down. No lift, I have really bad legs and really big bags so it was kind of a hassle for me going up and down.

Review 72:Centuraly located, coffee bar super, quite, excellent coffee.

Review 73:The décor was tatty, with paintwork needing cleaning/refreshing in the room, hotel stair carpets worn out. Disappointing. To summarise more attention to detail is a must.

Review 74:The reception staff were superb on arrival, very helpful and professional.

Review 75:We had room 23, which had a constant "mechanical" noise, rather like a noisy a/c unit which you couldn't turn off. On investigation, it turned out to be an adjoining "plant room", from where the noise emanated. Noise meant that we had very little sleep in the two nights there.

Review 76:Food was superb; I had the two best curries I have ever tasted. Reasonable bar prices. Great location with ample, private, parking.

Review 77:The expensive "superior" double with large bed we had the first night over looked the very traffic-y high street, had no privacy, and was incredibly shabby. Truly bad. Oddly, the smaller rooms are much nicer and we were happy our next two nights.

Review 78:Staff moved us to a quite nice altho smaller room with a small bed in the back for our 2nd and 3rd nights after we firmly requested to be moved from our awful "superior" room or allowed to cancel the reservation, and credited us the price difference. The Indian breakfast option was delicious.

Review 79:From check in to breakfast to check out, the staff seemed disinterested and uncoordinated. The waitstaff at breakfast appeared to have little or no training, and bumbled their way thru what would normally be expected to be a straightforward breakfast experience.

Review 80:The Noel Arms is in a perfect location. Building is charming. We'd stayed here before 1-2 years ago and really enjoyed it at that time.

Review 81:The bathroom door didnt lock and had to be lifted to even close. As pets were allowed then a dog was in the breakfast room, but the waitress bent down to stroke it, fed it from her hands then wiped her hands on her apron and let it jump all over her. Not great for someone serving food!

Review 82:Breakfast was really nice, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Great for a refreshing nights stay.

Review 83:Upon our arrival, we were asked about dinner reservations which we declined as there were several resturants in the village. We searched all evening to find somewhere and ended up coming back because there was no where. Resturants were empty and said no. Our own hotel said no then offered us one 10 minutes later as one magically appeared. The same then happened at breakfast! We were turned away firstly 30 minutes before breakfast ended. Not a very welcoming service considering we were called back twice.

Review 84:Comfortable and clean room

Review 85:A little bedraggled. Draperies in my room were torn. Carpet on stairs frayed. Upholstery was faded in some cases.

Review 86:The staff. The food. The bar ambience. Centrally located in town.

Review 87:Worth noting that there is virtually no mobile signal in the hotel or anywhere in Chipping Camden.

Review 88:Lovely hotel, food was excellent, although the service was a little slow.

Review 89:Only complaint really was on our first day one of the bar staff gave us wrong drinks and, about 10 mins after ordering our food, another staff member came over and said his colleague didn't understand the order! I think it's important that frontline staff have a good level of English.

Review 90:Very comfortable 'olde worlde' hotel in great location in centre of Chipping Campden. Stratford, Broadway and Stow all within easy reach by car. Room was very clean and well appointed and breakfasts were great. Staff all very friendly especially Izzie who lent me her phone charger as I had forgotten mine!

Review 91:The quality of the coffee depended on the breakfast staff. One particular staff member obviously didn't like her job so that ruled out coffee and toast that morning.

Review 92:We upgraded to the 1657 room and loved it. The hotel is old and creaks and groans but that was all part of the charm. The room we stayed in was 'haunted' . Right. We didn't experience any paranormal activity, we just loved our stay and would go back in a heartbeat.

Review 93:Disappointed in the meals. Found the building dark and gloomy and the soft furnishings in much need of attention. The carpet in the reception area is buckled and dangerous.

Review 94:Staff very friendly

Review 95:Wasn't worth the £135 we paid although it was clean the curtains were rotten and ripped, the ceiling had a stain on it and the paint work needed doing.

Review 96:Great location

Review 97:Friendly welcome, delicious breakfast, lovely room

Review 98:The hotel is very authentic and is in a fantastic location opposite the spa, near bars and restaurants

Review 99:Really poor service. The waiter did not understand much English. He could not make coffee and even the other staff tried to help him, he got it wrong. Also Charged the wrong amount. Later I had dinner in the hotel. The same waiter did not understand the order. He was the only one serving and he really seemed not to care about anything at all. My advice. Educate the staff serving.! It matters to the guests.

Review 100:The rooms were nice and clean.

Review 101:The hairs in the bathroom and in the bed were very off-putting. The bathroom needs updating and the wifi was unusable. Some staff were grumpy. It's a shame as this place could be brilliant.

Review 102:The breakfast was lovely

Review 103:We had 3 nights in a superior room. It was small. Only had a double bed and I'm a big bloke. First 2 nights were somewhat sleepless!! No opaque glass in bathroom which was facing the conservatory restaurant. Furniture was threadbare in places. Walls as thin as paper. You could hear the couple in the next room. I know it's the Cotswolds I know it's old but really?? In sufficient parking facilities.

Review 104:The staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant food was ok but nothing special. Breakfast was better but somewhat minimalist just 1 egg 1 bacon 1 sausage etc etc. tasted nice though!

Review 105:The plumbing in the en suite bath room needed attention. The water pressure in the system was unreliable so that cold water would suddenly gush out at high pressure & splashing. The hot water was in my view dangerously hot & could scald someone. The shower pressure was so fierce it was unusable. Roll top baths are quite common but itn my opinion they are dangerous since it can be difficult to get out especially if the bath is slippery after bathing. The room was next door to the entrance to the cellar & we were woken by someone in the cellar late at night. The problem with the bathroom meant we had to cut short our weekend away.

Review 106:The room we had was a good room nicely furnished & large. We had evening meal which was good & breakfast was fine. The staff were generally welcoming & tried to rectify the problems we experienced but were not able to because it was weekend.

Review 107:Only minor issue was lack of phone and wifi coverage in the room. We had to go to the lounge for wifi and outside for phone.

Review 108:This Hotel has charm, character, and an excellent location to enjoy the Cotswold experience at its best.

Review 109:Soggy bread masquerading as toast. Also whilst we use this hotel quite frequently is is starting to feel a little tired.

Review 110:Position, atmosphere, Dovers Bar, friendly staff. Generally a pleasant place to stay

Review 111:Breakfast was good, although we were offered toast but never received it.

Review 112:Have stayed here twice now, it's a cosy and well located hotel. The staff are polite and friendly.

Review 113:There were no bad experiences. Breakfast menu should have a separate cooked vegetarian breakfast

Review 114:The room, staff and the food were all excellent. A historic hotel in a historic town.

Review 115:Excellent location in the heart of the picturesque village. Lovely rooms with beautiful bed linens and draperies. Warm and comfortable. Friendly staff.

Review 116:The facilities and food were good, but the staff generally were a bit disjointed we initially waited a long time to take our food order and a long time between courses, need more trained staff that fully understand the English language.

Review 117:Location

Review 118:shower was not working properly, not much of a response from reception!. no lager on sale in the bar!

Review 119:comfortable bed & quiet location, secure parking.

Review 120:We visit Chipping Camden 3 or 4 times a year, usually to visit the brilliant restaurant "The Chefs Dozen". We have stayed in most of the nearby hotels and have found the Noel Arms to be the most convenient and comfortable, offering excellent value for money. Will stay here again.

Review 121:Good location, on site parking, good breakfast, very comfortable bed. Staff very pleasant. Only criticism would be some areas of hotel are a little tired, although we did notice some refurbishment taking place, would definitely return.

Review 122:Excellent location and spa facilities. Had a lovely relaxing stay away with good food lovely room and drinks by the log fire. Purfect. We have been before and will return

Review 123:Over priced. Useless, rude staff. Bar running out of draught beers on Friday and was still dry when we left on Sunday. Not good enough. We paid enough for the experience. Certainly wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone.

Review 124:Comfy bed - that's it

Review 125:Wifi needs sorting-only available in public areas & even then it is dodgy. The hotel in general needs a good lick of paint (apart from the restaurant & conservatory)

Review 126:Breakfasts are really good here-a great choice, including a continental & "spicy" option. The hotel is a in a great location, great value for money and has plenty of areas to lounge around in so you don't have to stay in you room, great coal fire!

Review 127:Some people might think the hotel needs a refurbish but the the look and feel of it suits the place! Friendly staff and great food! Try the curry for breakfast!

Review 128:Booked a meal at the hotel but it was a disaster. 45 mins to receive the starter after ordering and it wasn't very nice. Main course was inedible and slow to arrive. Quite a let down for a special occasion. Manager looked after us and did not charge us for dinner or the wine. I think we were just unlucky with the food.

Review 129:The area is beautiful and the hotel has real Cotswold character.

Review 130:Wifi was poor and we couldn't get a connection in the public area. The bed was not particularly comfortable.

Review 131:Good location in the middle of the town and we also liked the fact that the restaurant and bar were of high quality. Was clean throughout.

Review 132:The only drawback is that the w-fi is patchy. We could only pick it up in certain areas of the bar.

Review 133:The whole experience from our lovely room to the cosy bar with real ales, the coffee bar with fantastic home-baked cakes and the superb dinners. The staff are great and will do anything to make your stay more enjoyable. Lots of parking and a beautiful location. We hope to return and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 134:Decor in bedroom a bit dated, and beware - spa needs booking even if you don't want treatments

Review 135:Garden room, open fires, location, coffee and cake, spa next door

Review 136:Everything was excellent starting with staff, cleanliness and also food. Breakfast w Would definitely recommend.as not only to be ordered out of 5 choices, but also fruit, cereals, ham and cheese available on buffet tables. Great. Rooms warm and clean.

Review 137:It would be better if wifi could be accessed in rooms.

Review 138:Loved the fact that there were different areas to sit and relax. Attentiveness of the staff. Food was well presented, tasty and good value for money given the location. Recommend a stay.
