Reviews for Hallmark Hotel Hull

Review 1:This hotel is never four star they gave me a small grotty room that does not resemble the pictures on the website in any shape or form there was a dog barking in the room next door... And the food in the restaurant was poor I was extremely disappointed as it looks so nice on the website ... Will not be rushing back...

Review 2:Very little.... False advertising

Review 3:It was very cold; couldn't adjust heating in the room, there wasn't extra blankets or throws; the restaurant was cold. Breakfast would have been good/great if tea was served in a pot with boiling (not hot) water. I would have forgone every part of breakfast for a good cup of tea to start the day.

Review 4:Friendly & helpful staff Clean & well cared for hotel environment Pleasant decor

Review 5:Breakfast was included in rate but nobody told us where and when it was or what was included in rate wether it was continental or hot food.

Review 6:Got a good discounted rate. Good location for my work.

Review 7:Kindly tell your chef where to find a recipe for sticky toffee pudding. I have had many over the years, but NEVER such a bad one. Also, I specifically asked for it to be HOT, and it was actually barely luke-warm. 'Nul points' for that, but top marks for everything else.

Review 8:location, facilities and rooms

Review 9:In the middle of nowhere. There's nothing other than grass, a road and the hotel there. That's probably good for a quiet weekend retreat - but an inconvenience for a business traveler ...unless your business happens to be in the meadows for some reason.

Review 10:They serve an exquisite pan-fried chicken for dinner.

Review 11:Inconsiderate guests shouting and banging doors at 2.30 in the morning for a good hour or more. I couldn't be bothered to complain and I guess nobody else could either.

Review 12:Everything was fine with one exception (see negative comment) but that was not the fault of the hotel

Review 13:The room was cold, and the shower was just a trickle of water. We complained at reception and were told somebody from management would contact us which has not happened as yet.

Review 14:The location was good and the room seemed to be recently refurbished and clean.

Review 15:One bedroom window didn't completely close. The full length curtains and black out linings blocked the effect of the heat from the radiators. Suggest curtains cut to windowsill height.

Review 16:Very comfortable bed. nice selection of hot drinks in the room and biscuits.

Review 17:was charged for breakfast even though I didn't want it, never got the refund! was woke up at half 1 by a wake up call for the wrong room.

Review 18:staff we're nice. Room was tidy and clean. And nice location

Review 19:Little disappointed in the food had starter before we got our drinks. Breakfast was sReally freaked out I've just heard robs voice from upstairs calling me in the silly voice he used to shout down to me. I feel really sick and can't shake it off Xlightly dry and overlooked.

Review 20:Rooms were cramped. Window was small. Transparent bathroom door let light through all night. I payed a premium for a room with a view. View was poor and not as promised. I specified I wanted a view of the bridge. The never specified I would need binoculars.

Review 21:Public areas looked modern as expected

Review 22:Amazing hotel, location was fantastic with views of brilliance. I arrived a month early. But the hotel changed my booking without hasale. Thank you to the receptionist 5**** 10 out of 10 service. P.s. loved complimentary tea and biscuits.

Review 23:Awful meal - some items described on the menu didn't even make it on to the plate! when I approached the "supervisor/manager" with the problem, she told me she would tell the chef. Well great, I am sure he will be devastated. At £82 for 2 courses and a distinctly average bottle of wine you have to get the details right. On the second night it was very noisy, doors slamming and people shouting in the corridors. So much so, that my wife and I left the hotel early Sunday morning to get home for some sleep. When I explained this to the receptionist, she apologised and said it was probably the wedding.

Review 24:Bearded Barman was pleasant and efficient. Nice room and bathroom.

Review 25:Feel that the bar is a little overpriced £4 for a pint of 4.3% Budweiser and £12 for a burger and chips is a bit steep.

Review 26:Helpful friendly staff. Clean and comfy rooms.

Review 27:We ordered sandwiches from the bar, they were very expensive but we did expect that. However my friend ordered a humous and rocket wrap....it seemed to have no rocket but some sort of chillies. The amusing part was that what should have been a vegetarian snack had bacon in the side salad

Review 28:We arrived at midnight, tired and grumpy but the staff were fantastic, cheery and welcoming

Review 29:The room was too warm and quite small for a 4 star hotle. Shame there is no swimming pool either.

Review 30:It was ok at the hotel, breakfast was chaotic on the sunday morning, due to everyone arriving at once and staff tried to do too many jobs instead of focusing on one - which could have helped them to keep things under control.

Review 31:Wedding going on and breakfast the next day was mayhem. Could not handle the wedding party and the guests at the same time.

Review 32:Facilities were great. Great rooms. Free Wifi

Review 33:Room was way too hot even with windows open it was a good few degrees hotter than outside which made the nights sleep quite uncomfortable. Needs air con badly.

Review 34:Location and view was good, staff were very friendly.

Review 35:The food was terrible, starter was okay. Mains was cold and not a lot of flavour, our toffee desert was burnt inside and the custard on top was cold (when requested hot) the water in our room did not come through properly it spurted and made extremely loud noises as the water was not connected properly, also I was over charged for the meal and was given a refund for being over charged. Would not stay again. I also noticed the staff at reception was quite rude too the customers in front of us (abrupt)

Review 36:The staff was very friendly and the rooms was very clean.

Review 37:The only criticisms I have is that the shower head is leaking. In fact it's the pipe holding the shower head, a new one is required. Plus there isn't much water power, it took ages to rinse conditioner out of my hair! Oh, and just as aside the evening menu was limited, had difficulty choosing a main course.

Review 38:Location of the room to reception. Previously I have had to walk up and down staircases with a heavy case, so from now on I would like to stay in room 106!!

Review 39:On arrival we were told that the rooms we had requested were not available due to booking.com not passing on the details we asked for, and told that they had been having problems with booking.com for some time and there was nothing they could do as they were full. Which left two small children sleeping on the floor!!!

Review 40:Facilities

Review 41:When we arrived we only had a double room not the family room which was booked. We were given a z bed but it was very cramped with two young children. No swimming pool we we believed there to be upon booking. Very very noisy room. Wedding guests chatting until 1am, someone above us moving furniture at 4am, and laundry collection at 7am beneath our window. Extremely rude and challenging service staff. I complained about all of this upon check out.

Review 42:Arrived to check in at 1:30 after requesting early check in and only to be told that check in doesn't start until 2. After 2 went to try and check in only to be told only 2 out of the 3 rooms we booked were ready. Had to Waited for another hour for the third room .Rooms were very hot, requested for a fan and the staff said they had run out. Hairs everywhere in the bathroom and shower button was broken. Staff not very helpful at times.no mobile reception in room s. On the other hand, breakfast was very nice and kitchen staff very friendly.

Review 43:Beds were comfortable But the little footon that my son was meant to sleep on was broken so he had to sleep with us on our bed.

Review 44:Cleanliness. I think somebody may have hidden the vacuum. Most of the carpets around the hotel need a good going over. Cutlery at breakfast still had food and dish washer marks on as did the coffee cups. Had to move rooms due to hair and crumbs on the first rooms carpet.

Review 45:Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 46:Family room wasn't set up even though I had confirmed emails. Only double room available. Had to wait in the lounge for 3/4hour while being sorted (this was after a 6 hour journey and two very tired children gone 10pm). Rooms were very very hot with no air conditioning of fans. Not good with a child with servere eczema.

Review 47:Breakfast and views

Review 48:The staff at the weekend was a joke we was told by the staff that the manger told then not to give us a room as there was a wedding bearing in mind we had already booked it days before I thought that was disgusting

Review 49:We as a couple always stay here as we feel comfortable here

Review 50:Dark rooms with small windows only. Noisy in the morning and at daytime because of the near motorway. We changed the room as the first one was smelling ugly from the bathroom. Unfriendly staff at the reception. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Better book a nice little B&B.

Review 51:Room was boiling. But we did get a fan when I asked which was very much appreciated.

Review 52:Access to gym and sauna. Acoustic gent playing in the bar area on the evening. Brasserie was spacious and nice.

Review 53:Only grumble that it was too hot in the room and would maybe benefit from a fan or a/c

Review 54:The setting of the hotel is amazing with great views and not too far from the town centre.

Review 55:Located close to a very busy main road which can bevloud if you keep windows open at night.

Review 56:The staff are wonderful, friendly and helpful.Grounds are lovely.

Review 57:They wanted to charge us £15 each night for our little, well-behaved dog even though the room only has to be specially cleaned once at the end of the stay. Fortunately they saw sense and charged one fee at check-out. Also sadly didn't have a Gideons Bible available in the room but the staff very kindly found one for me. Top marks for that!

Review 58:Easy parking, lovely breakfast, comfy room, relaxed atmosphere.

Review 59:Looks shabby from the outside. Water pressure in our room was terrible - very hard to take a shower. WIFI signal was patchy. Ordered food one day that took a long time to come out from the kitchen - over 45 minutes.

Review 60:Convenient location for where we needed to be. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Grounds were very nice.

Review 61:The breakfast was terrible, especially for £10 each!!

Review 62:The staff were so friendly and helpful. The rooms are gorgeous and the beds very comfy. Bathroom very clean and kitted out with nice toiletries and fluffy towels.

Review 63:Breakfast was buffet style. It was chaotic with all the cooked food Luke warm. Had to ask for plates to eat off and request coffee.

Review 64:Clean rooms.plesent reception staff. Very good room rate.

Review 65:rooms were extremely tiny and were like greenhouses! very expensive considering we stayed in cave castle night before and had breakfast included and it was cheaper!

Review 66:nice shower

Review 67:Standard double bed with sheets and fleece rather than duvet. No mini fridge/ bar, annoying beat heard in bedroom Friday, Saturday and Sunday night from wedding parties and doors slam on every bedroom.

Review 68:Location excellent, staff very helpful especially Sam on reception. Bed comfortable. Would stay again but only weekdays when hopefully no wedding parties!

Review 69:We were unable to get a good night's rest because of the highly disruptive noise from a wedding party that continued until after 4am.

Review 70:The service was good and the room was clean and well equipped.

Review 71:The rooms were incredibly small, there was no mini bar or drinking water in the rooms, the shower did its job but was low pressure

Review 72:The staff were great friendly & very helpful? The food both evening meal & breakfSt were great

Review 73:The food isn't great. Restaurant is average but a bit expensive in my opinion.

Review 74:The hotel itself is very nice, contemporary design and furnishing. Rooms spacious and clean. Really nice outside balcony area to sit and have a drink, with great views of Humber Bridge. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Good parking. Quiet location. Stayed a few times, it's always good and great value.

Review 75:Occasional wifi problems in twin room and no service on my mobile phone.

Review 76:Location is good for trips to Hull and South of the Humber. Food is excellent and staff very helpful.

Review 77:Was above the disco for one of the 2 weddings taking place, so it was noisy. The room was at the start of the corridor, so all the late revellers in high spirits passed the door adding to the noise and broken sleep.

Review 78:Wifi did not work in the bedroom ( twin room lower floor) however there was no issue in the bar area.

Review 79:Location, easy access to Hull and Immingham. Staff were extremely friendly. We dined in the restaurant for one night and the food was excellent. Good breakfast to start the day.

Review 80:We felt the rooms needed a fridge

Review 81:Our first impressions were not disappointed this place has it all very friendly staff especially Phil behind the bar, very clean rooms and awesome gardens no wonder people come here to get married, the views of the Humber Bridge from our room were amazing so make sure to request a room with the bridge view. Every meal we had were lovely from Breakfast to Dinner and no requests went unanswered will come back again I hope as it is a great base to visit York.

Review 82:Very noisy during the night as our room overlooked the main entrance and a wedding party were leaving and made a lot of noise whilst waiting for their taxis. I have a half marathon race the next day so needed my sleep which I didn't get because of the noise

Review 83:Lovely hotel and the room had everything we needed for a one nights stay.

Review 84:Difficult to close the doors quietly, which meant a bit of noise in the corridors. Some road noise but not enough to bother us. A few people talking loudly above us but we were so tired after a 7 hour drive, they didn't keep us awake.

Review 85:Rooms and bathroom were modern and very clean and windows opened, which seems to be rare in a lot of hotels. Room not huge but perfectly adequate for our needs. Nice view of river and Humber Bridge from rear of hotel. Nice bar area with live music. Didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment on the food. Would be happy to stay here again if our son is lucky enough to get a place at the Uni.

Review 86:No view from window... breakfast wasnt very well organised, lack of food ,had to ask for everything , not enough staff to accommodate volume of guests

Review 87:The room was lovely very clean and modern

Review 88:Wifi in the bedroom didn't work unless I was in the bathroom. Hotel was nice looking but rooms and bed themselves were average.

Review 89:Staff were helpful and friendly, easy to check in, free parking, and check out all a breeze. Breakfast was good

Review 90:The shower didn't seem to have much power and would of been nice to have more than 1 coffee each in the room.

Review 91:The room was spotless, bed was one of the comfiest beds we've ever slept on.

Review 92:chicken for main came out pink on the bone complained told had been prepared using a probe... broken! mash potato had done several turns in the microwave to reheat complained told no microwave... well it wasnt fresh! shame rest of it was a good stay

Review 93:good up to date decor good condition of hallways clean room good breakfast friendly staff good location

Review 94:room near stairs was a bit noisy. breakfast needs improving, tea and coffee slow to be brought to table - tables needed cleaning - felt sticky

Review 95:large rooms good bed good nights sleep amazing views

Review 96:Everything was good!

Review 97:Location very good for accessing Hull centre and Beverley. Room was spotless. Food at the bar was very fresh and tasty. Stunning views of the Humber bridge.

Review 98:The Location Is A Little Out Of City And The Late Night Food Choice Is Limited!

Review 99:The Hotel Was Very Modern And Clean And Gave A Very Welcoming Feel To It. The Staff Were Polite And Helpful And Covered Everything On Arrival. The Rooms Were A Good Size And Very Well Presented! Will Go Again...

Review 100:The way the staff handled the various problems when checking out. I was charged for drinks that we never had. (Following a written complaint they have agreed to refund the cost of the drinks). I was charged a late checkout fee despite not being told the checkout time and the being told that there was no rush to vacate the room at all minutes before checking out when I asked. There was a booking error which I was charged extra for and the attitude from both FOH staff and the General Manager was it's not our problem, take it up with our booking agent yourself.

Review 101:Hotel was clean and comfortable.

Review 102:Noise in the corridor over the weekend from people at weddings hosted by the hotel. The authorisation (hold) they put on your card at checkin takes ages to clear

Review 103:very clean

Review 104:Far from main city of Hull. Mediocre view. Some rooms are down in the dungeon. Difficult to access especially if you carry a big luggage as there is no lift.

Review 105:The room was more like a motel, no spa facilities and not anywhere near hull centre. Really bad wi-fi connection. Very expensive food and rubbish serving hours

Review 106:Not having a pot of tea or coffee at breakfast as served by staff. The breakfast could have been slightly better.

Review 107:The cleanliness of the room. The peace and quite and plenty parking

Review 108:very comfortable room, everything we needed, and spotlessly clean. Would suit anyone for a short break. Dinner in brasserie was a bit pricey. Very good buffet breakfast is a good start to the day.

Review 109:The lack of choice on draught beers, and what there did have was horrible

Review 110:Went for a family wedding, everything was spot on, the reception room was beautiful, great food, the staff was outstanding and worked hard fantastic day.

Review 111:I was booked in for 2 nights. 24 hours before I had a phone call saying they had moved me to another hotel for the first night! I had to argue to get both nights in the second hotel so I didn't have to move half way through and although the second hotel was a lower standard and didn't have the facilities I was after I had to argue several times to get any sort of compensation.an hour before I arrived this was eventually sorted. This should have been standards practice. Not impressed with the staff

Review 112:None

Review 113:I love the restaurant, there is a good selection, this stay we opted for the £20 meal and still had a fantastic meal. I prefer to book for B&B plus evening meal whenever I can

Review 114:Leaving.

Review 115:Got an amazing deal for a Saturday night DBB. Hotel spotless. Staff friendly. Delicious evening meal from a varied menu. Great breakfast choices. Loved the swing and the view from it.

Review 116:Too many stairs! Have too difficulties walking stairs and zero lifts to use (with baggage etc). Understand build on a slope but......

Review 117:Location to Humber Bridge view and ease of access from motorway, bus stop (from Hull) and to your car park.

Review 118:No lifts in entire hotel walking up stairs is not a good start, rooms are tiny including executive suits my room was the size of a postage stamp. The bedding was velvet and silk? I mean come on.. this no porn shoot. really poor staff was great as they are in many places. But place was poor.

Review 119:Nothing apart from the décor if you like looking at nice places this is for you

Review 120:Room was too hot, hotel understaffed in the morning.

Review 121:The food was top class, good service from friendly staff but they struggled when busy and some advertised facilities such as the sauna were poor.

Review 122:Odd layout with many stairs. Disappointing cooked breakfast with congealed cold fried eggs laid out in a dish & tasteless fried tomatoes (not cooked enough and insufficiently ripe).

Review 123:Friendly staff

Review 124:When we arrived at 10:30pm we were told that due to an electrical issue our room wasn't available so they had put us in a Mercure 15 mins away. We arrived at the Mercure, checked in and went to the room only to find someone else in the room asleep! They had one other room that smelt heavily of paint fumes and had no hot water, although the cold shower did wake me up in the morning. Absolutely awful and the worst customer service I've ever come across. I was told the manager would call me the next day but have heard nothing.

Review 125:Hotel appeared recently refurbished but the lack of attention to sound proofing was a major problem !!!! especially if you were next door to the guest from hell !!!! Noisey door slamming went on until the early hours. Informed staff of the noise problem and though they appeared to be interested we were just asked if we had reported it. Maybe in the next refurbishment sound proofing could be put in place

Review 126:Staff were helpful and pleasant

Review 127:The sauna set up was a little confusing as it was a walk away from the changing rooms and gym. We ended up not using it despite having brought our gear with us.

Review 128:I loved the lovely, demure decor and various seating areas including a balcony/ terrace with views of the Humber bridge. There was even a little swing and bird table in the garden area.

Review 129:Room Doors where people outside can hear conversations inside, i expected privacy. A young member of the bar staff need education on flat Budweiser, had 3 pints pulled -completely flat-over 1 night. music choice in the bar was for teenagers not adults.

Review 130:very clean and up to date. very important, good view to the humber estuary but could be improved on from the bar area with more glass.

Review 131:The food in the restaurant was a little disappointing, 2 items of a small menu were not available nor were there any vegetables offered. The items we had tasted good and we enjoyed them. the breakfast selection was very good. The music in the dining room was rather loud and also not very interesting as it seemed to be some form of electronic music, a definite turn off which they did at our request.

Review 132:The facilities and location are good, it is 15 - 20 mins DRIVE from Hull old town and city centre. The room was comfortable and offered tea & coffee making facilities.

Review 133:Really hot room! Slow room service waited over 1 hour! Expensive bar! You pay a £1 for the 'complimentary' tea/coffee in your room! Lumpy bed! Noisy wedding party! No breakfast till 8am so ended up at the premier inn. Really disappointed.

Review 134:Staff friendly enough. Nice looking hotel but not to a four star standard.

Review 135:all the slamming doors Soundproofing not good - could clearly hear people talking - and anything else they might have been doing

Review 136:Price Location Room comfort

Review 137:Food in restaurant not to the standard of the rest of the hotel

Review 138:The bedroom and bathroom were comfortable, immaculate and much better than expected for the price paid.

Review 139:Cleanliness of bathroom, blankets on bed, room window left open until we returned late evening heating off so room was like an icebox, food changed nightly though read same on menu!

Review 140:Staff were friendly enough
