Reviews for Vallum House
Review 1:Only one thing. the shower in room 1 was old and too small. needs a new shower
Review 2:The owners and all staff were friendly, polite and very helpful, The breakfast and evening meals were really tasty and cooked as we liked them and personal service much better than other hotels fast track service Will be back
Review 3:Location is not within walking distance of city centre. This suited us as we were only looking for an overnight stop on the way through.
Review 4:Fantastic restaurant and bar on site. Close to motorway and handy off street parking. Ate dinner and breakfast here both excellent!
Review 5:Nothing
Review 6:Last minute stop en route to Glasgow, despite the late hour the staff could not have been more accommodating. Outstanding value for money and will be my only choice for future trips
Review 7:Martin and Denise were brilliant hosts, lovely room, food and bar excellent, nice quiet street yet Carlisle centre just down road, highly recommended.
Review 8:There was no hot water running in the shower. I asked the staff about this and they said 'it should be working' but did nothing to resolve the issue. I therefore had a cold shower.
Review 9:Great breakfast, good value for money, very pleasant and attentive staff. Good feel in the pub/common room in the evening to wind down. Ample parking on property.
Review 10:Rooms a little bit old fashioned. Bed was very old. Could do with a facelift but nothing wrong that would stop me from staying again.
Review 11:Nice place in a quiet location. Staff were friendly and breakfast was good.
Review 12:Nothing!
Review 13:The staff were very friendly and welcoming, also very helpful. The breakfast was superb. The room was comfortable and relaxing. Car parking was exellent too. I would stay here gain if in Carlisle.
Review 14:Luggage rack in room was broken, little expensive for a budget one night stay.
Review 15:Good dinner menu, quite location but still near major roads for traveling and town.
Review 16:Bed was not very comfortable and squeeked when you moved in it. There was no en-suite. Water in sink took a long while to warm up. Too far out of town
Review 17:Excellent evening meal and reasonable breakfast. Good value for money.
Review 18:The Hotel was very comfortable and the staff were all very pleasant too, nothing was too much trouble for them if we needed anything. We had two excellent meals during out stay. Unfortunately it was just a little bit far away from the venue at Cockermouth we were attending during our stay, approx 100 mile round trip during the two days. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay at the Vallum.
Review 19:Location,service was poor but most of all out of all my experiences with booking.com this is the dirtiest and worse.even took photos to prove it.
Review 20:Absolutely nothing.
Review 21:I was a bit surprised I could not gain access back into the Guest House when I returned after a days touring at 5.15pm but maybe it closes until reopening for evening meals at 6pm. Generally though at the price Vallum House are asking for room rate there is nothing to dislike about this Guest House.
Review 22:Very decent Guest House this. Nice room with television and tea and coffee maker. Bathroom had shower and standard of cleanliness good. Really nice Full English cooked breakfast served here. Probably due to the Vallum House not being situated in a holiday resort it does not seem to get that busy so fairly quiet overnight.
Review 23:The staff at the hotel were amazing. They bent over backward to help accomodate our family. We have twins so it's not always easy to find places that are comfortable and let our children run free
Review 24:The hotel from the outside is deceiving, looks fairly modern, clean and tidy but when you get inside its like walking back into the 60's. Desperately in need of a makeover. I stayed here as part of a trip and it was the most expensive hotel and yet it was the one most in need of updating.
Review 25:The staff were very friendly and the food was tasty
Review 26:No bad experiences at all. They were really helpful
Review 27:The room was brilliant which fitted two grandparents and a very lively four year old grandchild. Had a really good nights sleep. Staff very helpful. Food was delicious and cater for a fussy child's eating habits.
Review 28:None
Review 29:Location was great for start of Hadrians Wall, staff were very friendly and the room comfortable. Breakfast very nice and they were happy to adapt what was wanted.
Review 30:The owner was exceptionally kind when we had a car problem. He booked is in at a garage, led us there in the morning and then when we had left or car there, he gave us a lift to where we needed to go. Very kind.
Review 31:The bathroom is so small that it will be difficult to bath a baby there. I had to open that doors to have access to wash my feet because there was no way i would been able to bend down without my head hitting the wall or door
Review 32:he staff are wonderful and helpful
Review 33:Not really a complaint , but it would have been nice for the room to be en suite,
Review 34:Stayed for 3 nights. Warm and homely, staff were all pleasant and welcoming. Even though the hotel was busy with Christmas parties I did not feel neglected and, the owner himself made a point of introducing himself and, have time for a chat. Both the included breakfast and purchased evening meal were excellent and, they did not stint on portions. The room was more than adequate and, OK it may not be to be to everyone's taste, but it was clean, warm and comfortable, I have no qualms. It would be difficult to find anywhere else that offered such good value for the price. I would recommend Vallum House to anyone.
Review 35:shared facilities......but for one night no real issue.
Review 36:breakfast was brilliant room was clean and functional, served its purpose for a one night stay.would surely use vallum house again.
Review 37:Old fashion television and I tried to turn it own but it was not working properly. I did not bother to ask because it puts me off apart from that every thing is up to standard
Review 38:Staff are very helpful and does not interfere with residents .The place is neat.
Review 39:Fan very noisy and covered in dust in bathroom.W.C base needed cleaned.Handle fell of wardrobe door.Soap dish in shower if you touched it then it fell off,low water pressure in shower. This was room 11
Review 40:Staff were friendly Excellent welcome.
Review 41:Mattress a little soft for my taste but this is personal preference.
Review 42:Made to feel welcome on arrival. Plenty of off-road parking. Quiet location yet very convenient for city centre and easy access from western ring road. Hearty breakfast set us up for the morning.
Review 43:Had to unplug something to plug in the kettle or our cellphone chargers.
Review 44:Staff very accomodating. I was afraid my teenage daughter was too large for the 3rd bed in our room. It was a tight fit, but we appreciated being allowed to stay together and save money. This property is right on the street in the middle of a neighborhood, and the pub is the local gathering place for games and quizzes. Charming, but in a middle class, everyday, English way. Reminded me of B&B's from 25yrs ago. Chintz, siamese cat figurines and odd, old-fashioned electronics, but very clean and comfortable.
Review 45:Sharing a bathroom, however for the price it was to be expected.
Review 46:We arrived late and they had set a table up so we could still eat which was so thoughtful. The food was absolutely amazing, clearly home cooked and great value for money. Nothing was too much trouble, all the staff were friendly and there was such a relaxing atmosphere. We loved our stay.
Review 47:Cheap accommodation in a quiet location - the countryside is a few minutes walk up the road. I couldn't wait for breakfast as I had to be on the road early so a breakfast tray was provided in my room. Not gourmet food but loads of it.
Review 48:TV hard to use in one of our rooms, not easy to plug kettle in
Review 49:Lots! Plenty of free parking, easy to find, welcoming, we asked for redbush tea in advance and they got it in specially for us, good facilities, dinner served till 9 pm well cooked and generous portions, bar, good breakfast, super value
Review 50:Furnishings and decor looking a bit tired. Maybe time for a spot of redecoration and refurnishing.
Review 51:Very friendly reception and staff. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent in both quality and value.
Review 52:Breakfast was served in the bar area, would have preferred the dining room, because there was more room.
Review 53:Room was spacious and clean. In a fairly quiet location, good parking area. Breakfast very good and staff friendly and helpful
Review 54:basic facilities that could do with modernising.
Review 55:helpful staff, let me leave my car for 4 days, whilst I was cycling coast to coast. Let me have a shower when I returned. good value for money
Review 56:Only blip for my room was the traffic passing by. This would presumably not have been relevant had my room been at the rear so no fault of the establishment really.
Review 57:The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The room was comfortable. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. The whole experience of staying there was extremely good and satisfying.
Review 58:They were so accommodating and the room was great, especially for a single traveler. The food was excellent. If you drive they have parking and close to everything in Carlisle and the Lakes.
Review 59:The room was a bit small but the staffs kindness compensated that.
