Reviews for Charingworth Manor
Review 1:Not really a Spa. Would have been good to have had the option of a less formal evening meal. Being an old building height can be an issue so might be worth mentioning you are tall when booking to see if alternative rooms are available.
Review 2:Superb and friendly service from every member of staff we encountered. Location and history of the building.
Review 3:Not a moan- just an observation: bar area is small.
Review 4:Staff are pleasant and efficient. The whole place is welcoming. Lovely décor in lounges- nice Christmas touches and log fires. Pool is good. Room was spacious with plenty of storage. Dinner and breakfast both of good quality with high level of service.
Review 5:The evening meal was not value for money. It was expensive and after two courses we were all still hungry. The meals were al a carte and were absolutely tiny. It was the only part of our stay which made us feel like we did not get value for money and actually felt ripped off. We decided to dine away from the hotel for the rest of the week which was a shame. If the hotel provided a menu which catered for all tastes it would be very successful and we would not have needed to find somewhere to eat and go out again in the evening after a busy day touring.
Review 6:We liked the suites that we stayed in which were the ebrington and the brockley suites. We were upgraded on arrival which wasn't expected and was a lovely surprise. Very comfortable suites. Few cobwebs in the room and just outside the door but overall very spacious rooms. The swimming pool and spa was also very relaxing and enjoyable.
Review 7:The staff and food were excellent. Only intended to eat in on first night but staff and food were so good we ate second evening and afternoon tea on Saturday was excellent..
Review 8:The cleanliness of the pool and changing area could been improved, this seems to let the rest of the hotel down which is stunning.
Review 9:The location, staff and food were excellent!!
Review 10:Swimming pool area felt tired and outdated, and although the room we had was full of charm, hitting my head constantly, got rather old, rather quickly...
Review 11:Pretty hotel, friendly a helpful staff, and a good breakfast!
Review 12:The restaurant staff could have been more attentive (eg was often left to refill my own glass, had to request bread a few times etc)
Review 13:Stunning property in beautiful location Felt special yet homely Food in restaurant was fantastic
Review 14:The Hotel is made by it's staff, who were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful at all times. Our room was full of character and extremely comfortable. The swimming pool was delightful, though possibly on the small side had we to share it with others.
Review 15:It was very thoughtful of Staff to provide complimentary upgrade to our room and some bucks fizz, as it was a special birthday. The attentive staff were on hand for anything you needed. Liked the location and the room was very comfortable.
Review 16:Relaxed atmosphere, attentive but discreet service. Pets readily welcomed to all areas except, of course, the restaurant. Nice grounds and leisure facilities. Excellent breakfast selection. Just a lovely, stress free break with thoughtful, understated attention to guests' needs.
Review 17:Our evening meal wasn't all we hoped for or expected. Little errors crept in (plastic wrapping on a frozen goats cheese mousse was served!) & weren't picked up on.
Review 18:The staff were really welcoming & friendly
Review 19:Dinner, food was very good but thought it was a bit expences for the amount you got.
Review 20:Swimming pool and steam room very nice. Could not fult breakfast every thing you could want.
Review 21:The only minor thing I can think of is our bed pillows were a little flat, although my partener said they were fine :)
Review 22:The facilities were excellent. Every member of staff we had contact with were friendly afficient and polite
Review 23:None. Everything was perfection.
Review 24:The manor house is a fairytale! It is absolutely gorgeous and well maintained even though it is almost 100 years old. The staff was truly old world attentive and professional. They even did our laundry for free!
Review 25:A chance to stay in a property that is part of the history of the United Kingdom. The staff was very attentive and the breakfast was great. Enjoyed a morning dip in the pool.
Review 26:nothing!
Review 27:The staff went that extra mile to make our stay wonderful and enjoyable without being intrusive. They made us feel at home. The restaurant is excellent and also very attentive. We hope to be back
Review 28:The fact it was not clearly advertised that everyone else would betravelling with dogs. Obviously ,targeting local cliental but iftravelling from overseas and you left your dogs at home in a Kennel aswe did you don't expect to be stepping in dog poo on grass when youare spending a lot of money relaxing. (Just our opinion:)
Review 29:Comfy Beds.
Review 30:The mattress and pillows were too soft for us. The restaurant was a little pricey for dinner.
Review 31:Our room had wonderful views of the rolling hills and a little patio. Great attention to detail in the room (bathrobes and slippers provided, L'Occitane toiletries and various magazines, varied, good quality tea). Wonderful grounds and garden.
Review 32:On arrival it would have been nice to be asked if I'd like a lift with the luggage as we were on the top floor, they did when I left but by then the cases were in the car. Bar area is very small with no draught beer at all. The room we stayed in The Tosney has an unusually high sink (not a comfortable height), and a low shower rose so if you are above 5' 9" you will have to stoop down.
Review 33:Nice quiet location, but for those who like a walk there is nowhere to walk too, only around the grounds. Good food and friendly staff. Very old Cotswold house.
Review 34:Extraordinary natural beauty combined with the most comfortable of rooms. The staff is welcoming, the food delicious, and all designed for relaxation and joy. We celebrated my mother's 80th birthday with a most enjoyable two-evening stay.
Review 35:Our rooms were in the back building so a bit noisy from the cars driving by. Also it was hot and a fan would have been nice.
Review 36:Lovely location and beautiful grounds. Breakfast was made to order and delicious.
Review 37:We wasn't a big fan of the breakfast
Review 38:Friendly staff, clean and comfy room, good location, good use of facilities. Friendly therapist for massage. We even had afternoon tea which was good, but would have preferred more sandwiches to scones/cakes
Review 39:Dated bedroom decor. The old parts of the hotel are special, but disappointing to arrive and find your room is in newer wing. Website is misleading.
Review 40:Friendly staff and good breakfast.
Review 41:Nothing
Review 42:The whole experience, especially the facilities for dog. The service in all areas was very good, housekeeping, dining, bar and reception were well above standard and many higher starred hotels could learn from Charingworth.
Review 43:The room was spacious but stuffy. The swimming pool facilities were a little run down. This hotel did not offer value for money. For this price level we would have expected a little more.
Review 44:The location was nice, staff and breakfast.
Review 45:Children's swimming lessons at 9am on the Saturday morning....felt this should have been a bit later to give residents time for an early swim in a quiet setting
Review 46:The food was first class. The number of staff on duty was excellent.
Review 47:Starters for evening meal a little disappointing. My wife chose Asparagus & Prosciutto but was surprised to find only one asparagus spear provided. Also my Crab starter did not have a particularly strong flavour.
Review 48:Very pleasant staff.Excellent food especially breakfast.
Review 49:Nice hotel but facilities did not really justify the price in my view. Very small bar area. Breakfast service a bit slow.
Review 50:Lovely location and friendly staff.
Review 51:The guy on reception talking to me like he was some school headmaster trying to get me to stay for time than i had booked. 1 night was enough for me. And get that pool cleaned, both myself and partner fell ill after being in there !
Review 52:Staff were helpfull and always smiling. Actull manor itself was picturesque.
Review 53:#.Bad condition of Wi-fi (but not so matter for holidays)
Review 54:#.Gentle and kind staffs (even to kids) #.Histrical well-kept house #.Relaxing and luxury atmosphere #.Beautiful landscape of coutryside #.Nice restaurant with good dishes
Review 55:Cost per person for "classic English Breakfast" £20, first time I've ever seen only one rasher of bacon and one sausage served on a full English. Hardly any mobile phone signal, wi fi "blackspots" included our room and the bar!
Review 56:Large bedroom and bathroom, plenty of hot water for bath/shower, comfortable bed. Beautiful grounds. As its such an old building the walls are very thick so hardly any noise from other guests and a peaceful night's sleep.
Review 57:The evening meal was disappointing and we had to wait some time in the bar before our food order was taken. The barman was run off his feet and the way the restaurant staff were communicating it was obvious they were stressed.
Review 58:The facilities on site were great. The staff couldn't be more helpful and our room was upgraded at no extra cost
Review 59:Shower doesn't work fine. It is impossible to adjust temperature for shower. We could choose only too hot or cold water. Tap for bath was working fine fortunately.
Review 60:Restaurant (dinner and breakfast) was good.
Review 61:We thought the evening meals were too expensive and the drive had rather severe 'sleeping policeman' ramps, speed limit 6.75 m.p.h! It's 3 plus miles from Chipping Campden with a pitch dark, return journey after a meal out!
Review 62:Lovely Breakfasts. We had a spacious room (paid extra) with a garden terrace. Weather was quite wintry during our stay but the hotel and room were always fabulously warm.
Review 63:We were told the hotel was pet friendly so we felt comfortable taking our dog having checked with the hotel before our visit. We were then allocated a cramped, non dog-friendly room which was totally impractical for our needs. Staff did not help to upgrade us or make our stay more comfortable and were incredibly rude telling us it was our fault for bringing a dog, when we had been told the hotel had the requisite facilities. The wifi only works in the lounge area and the value for money is shocking given the quality of the room. We were appalled at our treatment by the staff and they refused to book a taxi for us. An all-round diabolical stay.
Review 64:The location is beautiful.
Review 65:When taking a shower the water wasn't going down the plug hole. On investigation a large clump of hair was found lodged in the plug hole. Hopefully the cleaner found it on the side of the bath and will think when cleaning next time!
Review 66:Quiet, relaxing location, friendly welcoming staff and very nice hotel. Good food. Being dog friendly was a big plus for us; especially the super grounds to walk in.
Review 67:Only slight negative The Fern Room on road and it seemed quite busy which disturbed sleep slightly.
Review 68:Very relaxed atmosphere, staff very welcoming and helpful breakfast superb.
Review 69:The hotel could not have done more for us although my room was a little cold... It was an extremely cold night. I will NEVER share with my dog again though as she appeared to be on high alert all night, snuffling, restless and unsettled. I think I had an hours sleep! Not the hotels fault, the room was spacious and for old, well behaved dogs... Perfect!
Review 70:Beautiful old house, full of character and staff could not do enough for us. We were staying with our two your old Wheaten terrier and 3 teenagers just for one night. the staff offered us private dining in the drawing room which felt very special and was easy with the dog. Pool and sauna were warm and appreciated. Chipping Camden is a beautiful little town to visit.
Review 71:Full card payment was taken on arrival ! This led to some embarrassment as I was yet to transfer funds. An authorisation fee is usually a token payment not payment in full.
Review 72:The room was not as expected from the pictures on the web, it was nice if a little tired. I am a light sleeper and constant traffic outside the room and what sounded like someone reorganising something next to the room kept me awake throughout the night. This left me tired and spoiled the next day Opening the window is not a good idea, as we came back from dinner to a very strong smell of burning wood/smoke that was coming from the chimney outside. Wifi is patchy at best. Over all very disappointing at the price and I would not recommend or return to the hotel
Review 73:The food and staff were excellent couldn’t ask for better.
Review 74:Clean and very spacious comfortable room. Lovely Occitaine products. The decor and hotel environment was warm and welcoming as were the staff. We're coming back!
Review 75:Food was disappointing, especially at lunch and dinner. Ploughman's sandwich was made w/tasteless, gummy shredded cheddar. Dinner had high ambition, but only okay execution. Scones at tea were small and hard rather than fluffy.
Review 76:The setting is gorgeous. Spacious rooms open out into back gardens and then the rolling hills beyond. Lots of spaces to hang out, play board games (provided by the hotel), and have tea. Swimming pool looked fantastic, although sadly we didn't bring suits. Very nice Cotswold walks from the hotel.
Review 77:In general the cost of meals was very over priced as were the drinks, without detracting from the quality.
Review 78:The setting in The Cotswolds was wonderful along with the knowledgeable staff and the quality of the food.
Review 79:Can't think of anything really.
Review 80:Charming 14th century manor converted into hotel. It has all you can expect from the period building: low ceilings, thick walls, crooked floors, fireplaces and timber beams holding it all together in place. At the same time it's spotlessly clean and quiet with staff appearing only when they're needed. I loved the evening by the fire, there was no tv blaring or music playing. Just fire and people actually talking to each other, with lowered voices, sipping wine or tea, reading newspapers or playing board games. So unique in this crazy world. An upgraded room, L'Occitane toiletries and the nicest and helpful taxi driver Rob, booked by the hotel, just made our short stay perfect.
Review 81:Nothing.
Review 82:Wonderful country manor. Great help from staff in assisting in our car problem; Jeff & Michael especially. All of the staff were friendly and competent. Suite was spacious and very romantic with views of the countryside. Meals were delicious and reasonably priced. Should have made reservations for 2 nights. Highly recommended for an extended period to visit the Cotswolds.
Review 83:I didn't realise it was so far from civilisation and a taxi would be required in the evening. Also the dinner menu was fairly limited so we had to go into Chipping Campden to eat.
Review 84:The room was really very comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was delicious and un-hurried. All of the staff we encountered were very helpful and polite.
Review 85:Unclean ensuite - hair on floor and unclean toilet. Dirty plate left on window sill in room when we arrived. Poor breakfast on first morning.
Review 86:Beautiful property Lovely rooms Good breakfast on second morning.
Review 87:A beautiful hotel in a beautiful place. Very peaceful with lovely views of the countryside with well kept gardens and set well back from the road. Food was exceptional and reasonably priced. leisure centre was a bit small but perfectly functional. Room was excellently appointed, very clean and comfortable . All the staff were polite, charming and professional.
Review 88:The manor house is beautiful and is an ideal English countryside setting. I wish we could have stayed longer. It was completely relaxing and they have a pool. I really didn't want to leave.
Review 89:Spotty and slow wifi a mini fridge in room would be nice
Review 90:-Seasonal, delicious food -Comfortable, cozy, rooms with all the necessities -Swimming pool - Full, English breakfast was scrumptious -friendly, knowledgeable 24 hour bartenders
Review 91:Can't think of anything..
Review 92:They allowed us to check out late without quibbling Food and service great. Like the facilities. Allowed us to change one of the rooms from a double to a twin.
Review 93:The restaurant is not right for young kids. But we went to a pub some miles away so it wasn't a problem.
Review 94:We loved the house and had a great time playing with the kids around the garden. The rooms are spacious and super comfortable. Great location.
Review 95:Shower temperature was a little temperamental and not easy to use.
Review 96:We only live 15 minutes away but we could have been hundreds of miles away staying here. The staff are amazing and very friendly and polite. At dinner we were served by no less than 5 people and each were great. We were upgraded to a suite as it was our wedding anniversary which was a lovely touch. The room was fantastic and the ultimate in comfort. The food in the evening and at breakfast was the best we have ever tasted. We will definitely be back!
Review 97:Our family room was in the back formerly servants quarters, and therefore had no view but the roof. We were there during a heat wave, and it was a pretty hot in the room when we checked in as our reservation only specified two adults not a family. But the check in desk found a room for us within 15 minutes.
Review 98:The food quality was excellent, and the outside garden garden had magnificent views. The staff provided a fan for the air circulation. The very large bathtub and seperate shower were really nice.
Review 99:Musty carpets, felt a bit dank and damp. Feel it's in need of some tender love and care.
Review 100:It is shabby chic and the staff are friendly and helpful. Also liked the views but would rather stay in the village next time.
Review 101:Intermittent wi fi A little bit too off the beaten track -but we should have realised this beforehand.
Review 102:Friendliness, politeness and helpfulness of all staff. Beautiful swimming pool. Lovely grounds. Peaceful atmosphere.
Review 103:Charming country manor away from the crowds yet central to everything that the northern Cotswolds has to offer. Given an upgrade to a room with a four poster bed (very much appreciated). Food was excellent and staff friendly and helpful.
Review 104:Having only one night there!
Review 105:Everything surpassed expectations. To give a specific example: As it was a glorious summer afternoon we lunched al fresco on the terrace and although strawberries were not on the day's menu the Chef sent out for them after I had merely casually enquired of the waiter. Well done all concerned.
Review 106:Staff throughout the hotel and restaurant friendly and helpful. Two very comfortable sitting rooms with open fires Well appointed pool and spa area
Review 107:Lovely team and great location
Review 108:some parts looking tired, as carpets. safe in the room a nightmare to set.
Review 109:location and building, intimate small country house - house guest feeling.
Review 110:Loccitane toiletries Staff Room size
Review 111:Location by sat nav didn't work for us
Review 112:Rooms are amazing
Review 113:Loved the pool and breakfasts! Bed was very comfortable.
Review 114:Rooms style feel service grounds fascilities all great
Review 115:Bed to small and hard overpriced
Review 116:View and building nice
Review 117:Loved every minute of our stay
Review 118:Terrible value for money - old, tired and dated! A total disappointment.
Review 119:Bedroom furniture was tatty and bathroom needed a refurbishment. Room smelt a bit damp.
Review 120:Great location.
Review 121:Breakfast was disappointing. Thought the room was overpriced.
Review 122:Location was superb.
