Reviews for YHA Keswick

Review 1:breakfast was poor not worth the £5.25 charged even though their signage states the BEST BREAKFAST IN KESWICK, I,m afraid not. we ended up walking to Weatherspoons.

Review 2:Good location with decent facilities

Review 3:The showers don't have anywhere to put your clothes and the floor gets really wet as it's just a curtain with a slanted floor. The rooms are also quite small.

Review 4:The beds were comfortable, staff were nice and the kitchen is well stocked.

Review 5:Nothing bad to write but to take note that there is no parking on site for cars therefore I paid for all day parking from 10 - 6pm then moved my car to a position on the street where I used a parking disc given by the YH for overnight parking to 10am the following morning - bit stressful as traffic wardens were about checking the discs regularly.

Review 6:Friendly and helpful staff. Position as next to the river with excellent views of the fells and 5 mins walking into town. Good kitchen facilities and also set meals available. Nice hostel and would stay again.

Review 7:Nothing, well ok maybe the stairs after getting back from walking Scafell Pike

Review 8:Liked everything about it, infact I don't see any reason to spend anymore money on a hotel or B&B 2 or 3 time plus more expensive

Review 9:the chairs in the self catering was left on tables. which made us feel we couldn't use the kitchen.

Review 10:Was very central location. for Keswick... walking/ shopping....buses

Review 11:The only thing is the heating was not on when we stay there (early Oct)

Review 12:One of the best yha hostels I have ever stayed! Friendly staffs, comfort toilet and quiet location. We were given a twin room which was excellent.

Review 13:Small bunk bed, small shower, really basic room with drafty windows. Wifi wasn't working for half a day in the whole hostel.

Review 14:Great location, nice kitchen and common rooms. Helpful staff.

Review 15:What has changed, sadly, is that the prices skyrocketed suddenly in the'90's, and though they have actually gone down a little, the yhahostel system is not at all the great value it used to be, especiallywhen you can get a b & b for only a few pounds more. So sorry to seehow they have been so terribly mismanaged into profit-making venturesrather than a service and offering to travelers(which is what they wereinitially intended as...)

Review 16:I have stayed at this hostel for over 25 years, and it thankfully hasnot changed in style or set-up.

Review 17:WIFI could be made availble in bedrooms

Review 18:Brilliant breakfast erfectly catered for my nutritional requirements of being gluten and dairy free. Options of soya milk, gluten free muesli, seperately made scrambled egg, gluten free bread and lots of fruit. Friendly staff Comfortable beds

Review 19:Wifi was working intermittently in shared areas but think this was a one off network problem as credit card machine also not working and we had to get a large amount of cash to pay for our group.

Review 20:Great location and great value for money. Rooms and shared areas sparkling clean. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty.

Review 21:I am 6'2" and found the bunk bed a little bit on the short side, in that I found I had my feet on a cold metal frame when I stretched out! There was a shortage of particular items for vegetarians like me. There were only two pieces of fruit and one yogurt, so one had to be early to be able to get these.

Review 22:Excellent location for exploring Keswick in the evening and getting quickly to cinema, theatre and eating places. The food is good quality.

Review 23:Our check-in / welcome felt automated and lacking a bit of warmth.

Review 24:Great location in the heart of hiking country. Clean and tidy. Decent breakfast.

Review 25:Phil, on reception was lovely. Cer polite, friendly and informative. Room clean, beds comfy and clean and view stunning. Easy parking- free on road parking a few minutes walk away. Breakfast was good value. Free wifi in public areas only. Plenty of shared bathrooms most of them clean and well maintained. Easy stroll into town centre- less than 5 mins. It wasn't cheap but it was in an ideal location so worth the extra.

Review 26:didn't like separate toilet/bathroom, but I did know about it!

Review 27:We stayed for one night only. We had a 4 bedded room for the 2 of us, with a double bunk bed and a single bed. There was a sink in the room, toilet and shower were separate. For the money, it was clean and good value. Great location by the river in Keswick.

Review 28:Parking isn't ideal but there isn't allot the hostel can do about it due to the location

Review 29:Very clean room, small but we'll equipped self catering kitchen.a bike shed at the rear of the hostel was ideal to lock our bikes up.

Review 30:nothing to say as all was good

Review 31:The YHA was clean and comfortable, the staff where friendly and very helpful. Although we did our own food the meals in the resteraunt looked delicious and were a reasonable price. Two minute walk and you are in the busy town centre of Keswick. Highly recomend this place, will definatley stay there again when in the area

Review 32:If I was picky, some rooms on third floor and no lift. Parking an issue during shopping hours.

Review 33:Amazing location overlooking the river and beautiful scene. Very friendly and informative staff. Close to town and walks.

Review 34:The inconvenience of having to park my car some distance from the hostel, as there is a parking time of only two hours allowed. However, the car was left further along the road from the hostel, where there were no parking charges and no problems resulted from doing this.

Review 35:The discount gained by booking on line made this property the cheapest place to stay in Keswick! The three course meal and breakfast I enjoyed were made to a high standard as well as being excellent value for money. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

Review 36:I arrived in a last minute booking and the staff member Richard was terrific. He was incredibly helpful pointing me in the right direction for any queries I had and making sure I enjoyed my stay. The location is beautiful as well as it backs onto a river.

Review 37:Not many toilets and showers. Beds are a little short if you're six foot or over.

Review 38:Ideal location for Keswick centre plus out of town walks, such as climbing Skiddaw. Relaxed atmosphere with great bar. Free parking not too far away. And very well priced!

Review 39:Difficult to use the toilet on a morning due to people using the sink for wash/ shave etc, in the sink which was in the room where the toilet was. A sink in the shower room may help this problem.

Review 40:The location was perfect, staff really polite, friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. Extremely clean and the breakfast value for money.

Review 41:The communal rooms and facilities were dirty. All of the doors including handles and brass plates were very grubby and I did not want to touch them. I did not want to use the kitchen. I used this hostel often in the 80's and 90's and like all YHA hostels in the lakes it was very clean. This was my first night in a hostel for over 10 years and I was shocked at the lower standard. At £29 for a single private room I saved money but after paying and looking around I wished I had booked into a hotel. I have been put off returning to hostelling. It is not how I remembered.

Review 42:Lovely location. Bedroom facilities including bed and bed linen were very clean. A very peaceful nights sleep.

Review 43:Light sleepers might be bothered by the rustle of water all night from the creek but really not an issue. Cooking oil wafts into staircase from breakfast room in mornings, but here we are scraping the bottom of barrel ... would recommend

Review 44:Friendly mix of younger and older travellers. Excellently equipped catering kitchen. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Friendly faces at reception. Parking is close by on the street ... free disc parking but longer parking available a little further down the street.

Review 45:Male & female shared toilet, toilet seat left up every time I went and it wasn't clean underneath! This is the only negative about hostel

Review 46:Location fab

Review 47:showers could be cleaner and sofas could be comfier

Review 48:relaxed friendly atmosphere. staff exceptionally kind and helpful. fantastic location. will definitely be returning.

Review 49:Nothing negative to say.

Review 50:Great hostel accommodation in a fabulous setting, it was clean and comfortable. Ideally situated by the river, handy for the town and yet with the fells only a short walk away. We ate breakfast which was excellent served by friendly and helpful staff.

Review 51:We paid £79 for a triple room (bunk-bed and a single) it was for 2 people but was the last room available.

Review 52:Situated in the centre of Keswick so within walking distance of shops, restaurants, pubs etc.

Review 53:Breakfast - had to wait whilst food was prepared so maybe guessing understaffed in kitchen

Review 54:Located in town centre Clean and tidy facilities Good value for money

Review 55:There's nothing I did not like. I guess the carpets need somecleaning treatment...but then again, I much rather have some schoolclasses, middle aged and older customers, all happy talking to eachother, rather than too precious interior decoration.

Review 56:Although I had sole use of a room with 3 beds in it (that's what Ihad reserved- my partner could not join me at the last minute), I stillfound it was good value for money, as you get so much more than in aB&B. You have various lounges, the option to prepare your own foodin a well stocked kitchen -which is pretty standard in uk yha hostels. Iwould say that the food options in the restaurant were well abovestandard yha can have a breakfast for a fiver and an evening meal forjust under £8. I had a 'mean' vegetarian risotto. 1St class.Showers cleverly updated, easy to clean, therefore clean!

Review 57:A bit more shower pressure please

Review 58:Brilliant location - Good sized, well-equipped kitchen - Was in female shared dorm and this was for six so not too large - Comfortable mattress and pillow with bed-linen provided - There's no car park but free parking close by wasn't difficult to find

Review 59:not much sleep - in shared room, 2 of 6 came in late 11.30-12. there was also loud shouting / commotion in corridor 3.30am, i think 2-3 residents.

Review 60:great location, in centre keswick & view of park and river from room, staff friendly and helpful, food good esp for veggies.

Review 61:Soap dispenser in nearest cloakroom was empty and not refreshed during 3 day stay. Cooked breakfast was not great, but it was cheap at £5 per person per day.

Review 62:Well located within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. Limited hours on-street parking nearby. Recently refurbished to an acceptable standard for hostel accommodation. Shared a triple room with 1 other person and that was comfortable.

Review 63:My sat nav sent me around the back, nothing to do with the hostel...!

Review 64:My first experience of a hostel in England. Very impressed with how it all works, with facilities too.

Review 65:- location a little off-the-centre, but bus stop to Central Lakes and Penrith near to the YHA.

Review 66:- cleanliness - nice and bright room - friendly staff who give a lot of information regarding the Lake District

Review 67:Everything about the YHA was brilliant. Especially brilliant to be offered breakfast at 7.30am so you can leave to get a whole day tramping in. So many places offer breakfast far later than that.

Review 68:OK - if I need to be picky. the size of the duvet covers - little short and not very wide!

Review 69:I have to say that I've not only recommended the YHA to family and friends I've joined! I was completely blown away at the level of service, and the specific 'nothing was too much trouble' attitude. We hear about staff being trained to go the extra mile - but really the team at Keswick do! We arrived about 8.28 and was politely asked if we would be eating, then when the they spotted my two young daughters recommended a different dish that wasn't on the menu. Any question was either answered or they informed me they would get back to me (and they did!). We loved it and can't wait to stay at others around the UK on our next visit back. Please do share my comments with YHA.

Review 70:The prices are a little bit out of my budget for a 6 bed dorm. But it is the price you would expect for Lake district.

Review 71:A very convenient location, in the centre of Keswick. Bus to Penrith is just 1 min walk way. Clean sheet and plenty of rooms and showers/toilets are appreciated. The best are the staffs, being super helpful in suggesting hiking routes and allowed me to borrow a map, if you don't have any with you. It definitely makes hiking in the mountains much easier.

Review 72:There was an uncomfy smell in our room. Most probably it was from the carpet. Room for chatting and hang around close too early. Residents who want to stay late and chat have nowhere to go inside the hostel.

Review 73:The location of the hostel is super. Just a few minutes walk to the beautiful town. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room for six people is neat and good size. It is indeed a room with a view. We can see the river by the side and hear the sound of the running river.

Review 74:Wifi is not free to non-YHA members (free wifi available in the town info center)& poor cellphone signal. At weekends it charges 3 pounds more (no wifi no breakfast) so I had to go to Ambleside for cheaper accommodation.

Review 75:Unlike most YHA hostels, this one really enjoys a good location--close to everything: shopping areas, info center, bus station, bars & restaurants. During10-minute walk to Derwentwater, you can indulge yourself in this nicely decorated town. I told the receptionist that I might come back later than reception hours and the guy offered to take my luggage from the reception to my room. He also gave my great advice for my day trip there(to Buttermere and Catbells).

Review 76:My only moan would be that the self catering kitchen wasn't open before 7am. As walkers leaving at 6.20 meant we had to make alternative arrangements for breakfast

Review 77:Great location, basic accommodation but very clean and well kept

Review 78:The 6 person room was a little small for 6 plus all walking equipment. However I would still stay there again as this had minimum impact and for the price was still good value

Review 79:Excellent location, clean rooms with very helpful staff. Reception staff had excellent customer service and knowledge of the local area.

Review 80:Friendly, helpful staff and practical facilities.

Review 81:The staff were extremely friendly and it was good to have private room. Food was good and great value. Great location.

Review 82:Insufficient mugs in self catering kitchen

Review 83:Location

Review 84:Friendly staff, great location on the river and close to pubs/restaurants, delicious breakfast of good value!

Review 85:Hard to find a car park but I went out all day so solved that problem.

Review 86:The location on the river was lovely.

Review 87:Everything ! Staff friendly location amazing value for money excellent

Review 88:Good for the price

Review 89:No wifi in rooms

Review 90:self catering facilities good parking arrangements also

Review 91:Large noisy teenage group visiting hostel.

Review 92:Some great walks nearby.

Review 93:The drain needed unblocking in the shower on 1st floor

Review 94:Lovely to be right next to the river.

Review 95:People knocking and trying handle on door at 3am

Review 96:Nothing.

Review 110:Locality and friendly staff.

Review 111:The friendly and helpful staff

Review 112:Good location. Easy to find walks.

Review 114:Helpful staff, good location.

Review 116:Great location, great staff. Room was adequate enough for 3 grown men! Will definitely visit again!

Review 117:Nothing great stay

Review 122:All the extra facilities...food, bar etc

Review 123:very good. very clean. very helpfull staff. food good.

Review 124:the car can't park at door, must go down one ladder and long way. It's not convinent for trourist who has large luggage.

Review 125:Really helpful staff.
