Reviews for Cotswold House Hotel and Spa - "A Bespoke Hotel"

Review 1:Great location with parking. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. It is a large old house so has character and no modern sound insulation. Do not expect hushed rooms.

Review 2:The bathroom door got stuck, but the reception desk were very helpful and were going to call the maintenance team to sort.

Review 3:The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had afternoon tea and dinner, which were absolutely delicious, and I can thoroughly recommend the massages at the Spa!!

Review 4:Hotel slightly rough round the edges, spa access is round the back of the building, needed to leave the hotel by the front door and walk through a garden and car park to get there. Spa didn't open until 9.30am. No gym. We clearly had one of the older rooms that hasn't been updated, the bathroom had paint peeling off walls etc. Bed was reasonable. View from the room was of another building..whole place needs brightening up, entry dark. Breakfast was good, but very small portions of cooked breakfast.

Review 5:Location perfect. Staff were friendly. Spa facilities good and clean. Good breakfast.

Review 6:The waiter was sullen and his suit and clothing was filthy. The hotel is a little tired and dining room not very friendly and welcoming

Review 7:The room was fabulous. The breakfast was delicious. The reception staff were great

Review 8:The whole hotel looks like it needs decorating and cleanliness was poor in the public area. Furniture could do with updating and fires being lit in day especially at Christmas. Dinner menu was uninspiring so choose not to eat here.

Review 9:The location was very good. The room was spacious. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was very good.

Review 10:Equipment and lights in room hard to figure out TV didn't work at first Spa a little disappointing - pool too cold as jacuzzi

Review 11:Location Our room and bathroom Towels! Breakfast

Review 12:Given the room rate which included full English breakfast there was a ridiculous and irritating £2 additional charge for a cappacino at breakfast which had to be signed for. Quite a walk through wet and windy conditions to and from the spa and the bar is a bit cheerless with chairs designed to be viewed rather than sat upon!

Review 13:The Cotswold House Hotel is in an ideal spot in the main street with great facilities and ours was an extremely comfortable and spacious sweet with a massive bath, open gas fire and a small garden. The Spa treatments were of high quality and breakfasts were excellent - the best fried bread ever!

Review 14:Unfriendly and unavailable staff. Poor spa facilities and rude unwelcoming staff at the spa! Very over priced for what it was compared to other places I've stayed.

Review 15:The hotel location was lovely and the food was beautiful.

Review 16:we were so disappointed the spa was not joined to the hotel. The weather was poor so it wasn't practical to walk up a dimly lit garden to get to spa. We didn't enjoy the availability of being able to chill in spa without getting dressed and undressed all time.

Review 17:We had a lovely suite and were amazed at the bathroom. Only downside there wasn't any privacy when using the toilet.

Review 18:Bathroom window had clear glass for all out side to see in wc was next to window

Review 19:A lovely hotel and lovely friendly staff in all departments lovely gardens in the heart of chipping Campden very good breakfast served very well with no waiting

Review 20:A beautiful hotel in a beautiful village. Lovely room, excellent setting, fantastic spa and great food. We could not fault it and will most definitely stay again.

Review 21:When hotel is busy there is a wait to be seated for breakfast Spa facilities are lacking, very small and can get busy

Review 22:Large bedroom and lovely bathroom Homemade cookies and selection of teas and coffee Great location

Review 23:We did not like the bathtub, not easy for people of more advanced years to negotiate! The sliding door to clothes cupboard got stuck and was hard to open, the shelves were much too for narrow for clothing. I think the place to put clothes in general, should be totally revamped. Substance over style should be the desired goal. And what was that plastic shelf in bedroom,( which tilted), there for? It seemed of no use, and just took up room?

Review 24:Loved the little sitting room, and separate entrance. Food very good.

Review 25:The room we had was comfortable, spacious enough and had excellent light and nice view. That view, though comes from being on the 2nd floor (3rd floor by US standards). If you don't mind walking stairs, it's worth the light. Not every room is the same so be aware. We stayed in room 25.

Review 26:Steps with no handrails

Review 27:We were unavoidably delayed and arrived after midnight. Alright we had emailed a warning (we received a helpful reply) it was even later than planned. The night porter was helpful and sympathetic

Review 28:There is nothing wrong with this hotel, it is quite nice, however, I was expecting more for the money I spent. Spa was nice but quite small and only had a steam room. People that came into the spa after 11am had no loungers or chairs. Hotel was comfortable but quite warm, bathroom was ok but not spectacular. The robes in the room were old and tatty. Food in restaurant was lovely but the staff were all inexperienced and new. Everything you are incurred a surcharge also. I think there are nicer hotels out there for the money I spent, but this one wasn't bad!

Review 29:room small but we had no choice but to book as no other rooms available. Booked dinner at the grill in advance. There was confusion over where the grill actually was or if open staff appeared not to know.. Told to eat in restaurant but no formal booking had been made which made us feel a little silly and also could not have grill menu despite this being on the wall of the "grill" outside.

Review 30:Breakfast was slick and calming and good choice well coked. Spa was great we spent a lot of time there and this was what we needed again calm and surprisingly quiet. Gardens were beautiful and well kept.

Review 31:The staff was VERY accommodating, especially concerning my son's food allergies. They made a notation and worked with me to come up with dishes he could safely eat.

Review 32:The staff were a little frosty . The room did not live up to its superior rating although was a good size. The shower changed from hot to cold causing a shower dance to avoid each degree of temperature. I emailed and rang them to asked for some changes we would like. Not very helpfull. We paid £640 for 2 night bed breakfast and a small choice dinner menue. Will not stay there again.

Review 33:The location was good and the food on the second night was better than the first

Review 34:A short stay of 2 nights in the "Junior Suit" that had all the creature comforts we desired. The view from the window overlooked the beautiful and inspiring garden, as well as the Cotswold countryside. The luxury spa added to our 2 days of indulgence.

Review 35:There was no way of attracting the staffs attention when the reception was unmanned. After booking a hotel with pool and sauna facilities, it was most disappointing to discover you couldn't use after 6.15. This shortened our days out to get back to swim.

Review 36:I loved our bathroom

Review 37:I didnt feel it was value for money. It is the most expensive accomodation in Chipping Campden yet it wasnt the best I have stayed in. I expected more for the money.

Review 38:Beautiful gardens and wonderful location

Review 39:There was a slight language barrier with all hotel staff and therefore you didn't get that warm, welcoming feeling. The staff seemed very detached from the guest. The hotel was situated on the high street but with very little going on. The rooms are definitely overpriced! For £255 per night, I expected a high standard of hotel. The hotel is in need of a cosmetic uplift. There are areas where the decoration is extremely poor. The hydrotherapy pool is lovely but there is no swimming pool in the spa.

Review 40:A good base to explore the Cotswolds. An enjoyable spa afternoon where the staff were extremely polite and helpful. Comfortable, clean room. Fabulous food!

Review 41:The bed was reasonably comfortable though it did dip in the middle. There was no bag carrying service which isn't a massive issue though most hotels that charge over £150 for a single night in an average room would have this service available.

Review 42:Great size, comfortable room with modern facilities in a hotel with friendly staff and all the amenities a modern traveller could want.

Review 43:We unavoidably had to cancel the first night of our two night stay at the last minute, and, while of course we had to pay, the hotel did upgrade our room as a nice gesture.

Review 44:Wifi doesn't work at all, decor cheap and dated, shower (over bath in premium room) didn't work, no minibar, spa booked up.

Review 45:The location, beautiful building, friendly staff.

Review 46:Rather dingy room with no decent view out of either window. Parts of the room looking rather worn and tired. Pool closed very early (6.30pm)

Review 47:Excellent meal in the restaurant. Lovely gardens. Central, but quiet location.

Review 48:Nothing

Review 49:The room was nice and quite big. We got a good deal to say it eas Easter week. The evening meal was very good in the restauran . The manager seemed very well organised

Review 50:Loved the cottage bedroom with the beams and large bathroom. Gorgeous garden. Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were lovely - different every day, ie full English, eggs benedict. Evening meal was great. The spa pool was lovely and relaxing, although the steam room wasn't working.

Review 51:Peeling paintwork in the bathroom & bath wasn't completely clean upon arrival; No view from our bedroom other than a brick wall; 6ft tall husband couldn't stand underneath the shower; Had to ask for feather pillows which took quite a while to appear from house-keeping; Room wasn't ready upon arrival at 3pm and we weren't given any estimate as to when it would be ready, had to keep asking reception for an up-date (shouldn't have to do that).

Review 52:Location of hotel; Breakfast waiting staff; Gardens.

Review 53:We arrived early, and our room wasnt ready. No effort was made to clean our room earlier,we were,nt made to feel welcome.

Review 54:The food and evening staff were very good.

Review 55:Poor communication amongst staff. I had to ask reception staff about the Spa and how and when it could be accessed.

Review 56:Food was excellent. Room lovely and clean. Bed pretty comfy

Review 57:Parts of the interior are a bit shabby the Spa theme needs to continue throughout to toiletries in bathroom and to the Spa a lesser brand being used in Spa Nowadays top hotels allow children accompnied to use pool not here !! Such a shame . No TV channels available in room! Not good in this day and age!

Review 58:Fantastic garden and setting and of course the location !

Review 59:Took a bit of time for the receptionist to check us in as they were taking bookings on the phone and no one else appeared to be on reception as backup. Also access to the rear cottages can only be gained by walking through a conference room but those were small things.

Review 60:The cottages behind the main hotel were very cosy as well as quiet and comfortable. The food and service in the restaurant was excellent and all round we had a lovely time there.

Review 61:We arrived for Dinner on first night and only 1 bottle of the selected wine was available. The cost of the Hotel Rooms are increased heavily due to Cheltenham Races. The staff were not very helpful throughout the stay.

Review 62:The position of the Hotel in relation to where we were visiting.

Review 63:Spa didn't fully work Small double room was really too small including short bed

Review 64:Location is amazing Hotel building and garden are lovely to wander around in Staff very accommodating

Review 65:I did ask for the room rate to not be on the paperwork so my partner didn't see but it was on there. A few light bulbs needed replacing in the room. I also half-filled out the room comment card and it got taken in before I'd finished. The dinner in The Cotswold Grill in the evening saw more staff than customers and we had to remind them that we had ordered wine when we placed our food order and it didn't arrive until the mains were delivered. Dinner the second night was across the road at the sister pub at The Noel Arms - BIG mistake!! No hello or asked how we were and we felt like we were an inconvenience the whole night. When I paid the bill in cash the waiter actually then waited for me to say 'keep the change'! I didn't until he came back and that was purely as I didn't want to stay there any longer. I couldn't fault the food though; that was beautiful.

Review 66:The suite's are fantastic - worth the upgrade. The staff are far better here than at the sister pub across the road. Must try the spa at the end of the garden - lovely treatments!

Review 67:The windows to the High Street in Room 7 need urgent maintenance. There is no safe in the room.

Review 68:Car parking, garden, excellent staff, décor of the hotel, superb breakfast and location.

Review 69:Apart from the room, the dog was only allowed in the Reception area so we found it easier to go elsewhere for snacks and coffee etc with the dog. The Noel Arms across the road is a sister hotel and the dog was welcomed there with open arms (literally!).

Review 70:Rooms excellent. Garden lovely and enclosed enough for dog to play in. Our checkout time was extended so that we could go to the spa and leave the dog in the room for an extra hour on the morning of our departure.

Review 71:Double bed was 2 singles joined together so lots of falling to the middle! Other than that it was truely lovely.

Review 72:A lovely room. Cozy and warm. Beautiful surroundings. Great breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. Enjoyed the spa facilities. Will definitely go back.

Review 73:on arrival WiFi not working in room - took 4 days to fix. Table lamp not fixed during our stay. Parking poor often full. Internal décor needs makeover. Interior decore of

Review 74:Good size room very comfortable

Review 75:TV s not working but understand that this was through no fault of the hotel on the evening we stayed.

Review 76:Best hotel that we have stayed in within the Cotswolds

Review 77:1) The internet signal was pretty bad, it was very difficult to skype. 2) I wanted to enjoy the last 30 minutes of the spa and was told it was opened until 7pm and to grab my dressing gown from my room and head over. I did this to be greeted by a locked door and finally they opened it to tell me they had to close early. I was very annoyed that the reception did not offer any compensation for this.

Review 78:The staff were friendly, bedroom was nice, the whole feel of the hotel was nice.

Review 79:- staff were polite but they weren't overly helpful - our room door was very insecure, when locked it could almost be opened by hand - batteries in the remotes were dead - phone didn't work - radiator in the room was very loud all night, couldn't turn it off - expected better for the price

Review 80:- right on the High Street - huge bath, lovely bathroom - large bed - but felt like two singles joined - spa facilities very nice

Review 81:Pillows not very soft, bar not that welcoming or atmospheric. Dinner was average

Review 82:Back massage at the spa. Breakfast was delicious. Location fantastic. Gardens lovely.

Review 83:We booked the Junior Suite for a long weekend. Although many of the staff were certainly friendly, the hotel was overall, less than welcoming. The fires in reception and the lounge were left unlit despite the fact that we were in both; no-one really enquired after us and our stay-it felt as if they could have cared less. Upon checking in, instead of being on the ball and remarking on arrangements for supper and the spa, it was left to me to enquire if those were still in place. We felt as if we were on a plane getting the emergency patter when being told where breakfast was and so on. My husband, who is hard of hearing, couldn't understand a word that was said, it all was spoken so fast. The turn down service was at 7pm and we were hardly ever out of the room for supper by then-it certainly seemed awfully early. It definitely wasn't worth the money and we won't be coming back.

Review 84:We ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was very nice. The breakfast and restaurant staff were very nice

Review 85:i can honestly say, there wasn't anything I would change. Keep up the good work!

Review 86:all the staff make your visit special and you feel like a friend rather than a stranger! Fantastic stay every time we go!

Review 87:We were in Room 5, which was large and comfy. The bathroom had with a very deep bath with shower over and it was all well decorated and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. The gardens are beautiful.

Review 88:The spa was closed before we arrived. The room was too warm and air conditioning wasn't working The music from the bar below seemed loud until late! Shower kept ramming cold

Review 89:Room 4 Decor of hotel Breakfast Bathroom Cafetiere/ ground coffee Toiletries Dressing gowns

Review 90:Incorrect information about the price of the inclusive dinner and the fact that the staff hovered all the time in the dining room giving the impression that they were watching everything one did.

Review 91:Location, size and comfort of bedroom, provision for special diets, approachability of staff, parking facility and flexibility of parking arrangements

Review 92:nothing

Review 93:everything, the friendly staff couldn't do enough for us, a complementary upgrade to a junior suite, the luxury, the afternoon tea, the sumptuous decor and tasty breakfast , the fire blazing in the hearth whist enjoying a soak in the giant bath. It all felt truly special

Review 94:Value for money - I would only return here for a special occasion due to the price and maybe give the treatments a miss

Review 95:We loved the location, and the really friendly staff in the hotel, and the quality of the furnishings

Review 96:The price at £330 for one night in a standard room. Couldn't get heating to work so bit chilly in the afternoon when reading. Requests made in advance not taken notice of (blankets on beds etc.). Breakfast buffet a bit Spartan for the hotel standard but could see hot meals OK. Just a bit pretentious.

Review 97:Great location in centre of town. Helpful staff. Comfortable bed. Really clean everywhere. Spacious room and bathroom.

Review 98:When booking the room with booking.com we wer told,we would be able to make the most of the spa, and restaurant at Cotswold house hotel and at a costly £445.00per night I should hope so.... on arrival we wer told that food wasn't being served as they had bookings only and they couldn't do anything about this!! the spa was fully booked to!!! So wasn't able to enjoy any of our stay, the bed was 2 single beds pushed together whitch spread thought the night!! So didn't get much sleep at all

Review 99:The bath was about the only highlight of the stay and that's about it!!!

Review 100:Service was stuffy and nervous - young staff should be allowed to be themselves not something they're not Hearing was ridiculous - either freezing or boiling in the room!

Review 101:Location Exceptional restaurant Great front of house

Review 102:I struggle to find anything but was a little disappointed that there was no fine dining opportunity but it was a monday!

Review 103:The staff, the restaurant, comfy room, charming town, nice massage in the spa, all good!

Review 104:There was nothing we didn't like.

Review 105:I loved the whole experience - everything was clean and luxurious. The staff were really friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The bed was very comfortable and the room was equipped with plenty of fresh coffee and tea. Gowns, slippers and toiletries were all provided and there were nice touches like some beautifully wrapped large cookies. Definitely want to go back!

Review 106:Spa was a bit smaller than expected and you couldn't do proper lengths in the pool. Still it was very relaxed and nice atmosphere.

Review 107:Beautiful area, lovely rooms and extremely helpful, kind staff

Review 108:The clientele tends to be elderly. We didn't even try the famous spa, since everything just seemed geared towards much older folks and we felt slightly uncomfortable. The much discussed special bed in our room was interesting, with an unusual accommodating "mattress" that's definitely not for everyone. We found it "gave" overly much.

Review 109:Our room was spacious, overlooking the main street in town. The bathroom was huge, the breakfasts very good. The hotel is beautifully located to explore the old town on foot. Try the Eight Bells pub for lovely staff and terrific English fare. Any number of spots along the street serve an excellent tea. If you're interested in the architecture of the period you can spend days just wandering the streets. Do not miss the old St. James church and grounds, on the outskirts of town.

Review 110:We didn't upgrade from our small double, however I wish we had, bed was very uncomfortable, duvet needed replacing as it had gone into clumps! room was tiny & dated with some cheap lamps & painting, although the highlight of the room was the B & O telly. Bathroom also tiny and smelt. It was clear there are some lovely rooms but I think even if the room is small it should be at least comfortable, It wasn't!

Review 111:Lovely location, lovely building, food was very good, friendly staff, certainly some lovely bedrooms but not ours!

Review 112:the only little bit one could criticise is the restaurant area we dined in just needed general uplift in décor....but not really a down point just a quick lick of paint ( gravy stains )

Review 113:We are choosy and wanted a bespoke hotel with good service and standards and this hotel delivered it all from the moment we arrived ...we dined in the evening to excellent cuisine

Review 114:We were happy with everything, the staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble, the food was excellent, room lovely, the location was beautiful, friendly locals

Review 115:Just one small thing - having to walk through the Dinning Room to get to Reception -

Review 116:Location, the Spa was fantastic, the Staff were great and the sun came out to make it a wonderful 3 day stay in Chipping Camden

Review 117:Though this was not a problem for us,the lack of a lift may cause some people distress and should have been made explicit on booking.

Review 118:Beautiful cottage gardens, access to spa facilities, general ambiance and thoughtful, helpful staff.

Review 119:Was a little disappointed by the small size of the pool, not big enough to swim in. Poor headroom in shower, had to bend down to be able to wash hair. However, neither of these were a real problem.

Review 120:Friendly and helpful staff, good food, comfortable bed, free parking, pretty gardens, good location, all very enjoyable.

Review 121:The staff were warm and courteous. The room was very comfortable and the bed was fantastic. The full English breakfast was good. The location was excellent and the hotel was lovely.

Review 122:Nothing to dislike

Review 123:We stayed in one of the cottage rooms. The room was very confortable and spacious. We didn't use the Spa facilities nor the dining or grill restaurants but the breakfast was nice with plenty to chose from. The hotel is situated in the middle of a beautiful picturesque Cotswolds village. We had a very relaxing stay.

Review 124:Pricing structure (or lack of it) seems to smack a little bit of ' what we can get away with' baiting and switching goes on.

Review 125:Rooms, breakfast, staff, location,

Review 126:The lobby area looks a little shabby and the staff serving breakfast seemed very inexperienced. They were slow and didn't seem to cope well with a full breakfast room.

Review 127:The room was a good size, it was quiet and the bed was very comfortable. The village itself is lovely and the breakfast was also very nice. It's a nice hotel but possibly overpriced.

Review 128:We thought the hotel was stunning. We enjoyed the spa facilities but do book the treatments well in advance if you can as it was very busy when we went. A central location with beautiful gardens and easy parking. The breakfast was delicious, we did not eat in the hotel. The room was nicely proportioned and the bed very comfortable (quite unusual too, we will be talking about the complicated spring system for a while to come!) There were nice touches, real coffee-making facility in the room with handmade chocolate chip cookies, and a fridge with water, orange juice and milk - we were not charged extra for consumption of these drinks. The bathroom was large and suited our use - the shower did not work properly but this did not affect our stay - we didn't even mention it until the end.

Review 129:The spa needs updating & the treatments weren't great value for money.

Review 130:The service was great & the hotel was very clean. The gardens are beautiful.

Review 131:One of the coldest reception staff we have experienced. She really couldn't be bothered with her guests or their questions. Dining room staff was friendly and eager, but rank amateurs learning on the job.

Review 132:Junior suite is beautiful;probably one of the nicest, most luxurious bathrooms my wife and I have ever seen.

Review 133:The bed were spring boards beds. Food could improve.

Review 134:Spa, fire place room. Location

Review 135:Pleasant staff. Comfortable huge bed, antique furnishings. Home made biscuits and fridge in room. Lovely hotel.

Review 136:Swimming pool and room so small The prices not reasonable for 4 star

Review 137:Breakfast are ok
