Reviews for Cornerhouse Guesthouse
Review 1:Only issue was that I paid for a breakfast which I was unable to receive as it was served after I left for work, though the staff did say that I could help myself to cereals/fruit in the morning.
Review 2:Good location, just a couple of minutes walk to the centre of Carlisle. Room was clean and tidy, parking permit including in the price.
Review 3:Very friendly hosts and excellent breakfast. Very clean and warm room and nothing is too much trouble. We have stayed here a few times now and will always try to stay here again the next time we are in Carlisle.
Review 4:What a lovely little place. I only stayed a night but the staff were courteous and helpful (even when I arrived late and then went to the wrong address). For the price I don't think you can do better!
Review 5:Single room , its location was in void of attic, because of low beams ,it was tiny , and having to be careful not to bang head . Adjoining bathroom had bath /shower that had flowing water ,but was told to use bathroom down stairs without proper explanation . Flat screen TV was similar size to laptop , wifi signal kept freezing .
Review 6:convenient for town centre free parking ok for price
Review 7:The bed was so hard it was painful to lie on. It was warm enough and cosy but much too hard
Review 8:the location was ideal for our needs, a short walk into the town itself.
Review 9:Vibration of water system could have been an issue if occurring during late night / early morning.
Review 10:Everything was clean with all towels etc supplied. Owner very helpful.
Review 11:showers in both rooms were a bit hit and miss! was running hot then cold while in shower!! both of us had this problem in our rooms!! but everything else was good ,,
Review 12:room was nice decor,, staff were lovely,, breakfast was lovely,, location was near town ,,
Review 13:The bathroom in the room I had was a little small if I was a couple of inches taller I wouldn't have been able to use the shower.
Review 14:Comfortable beds. Free wifi. Very close to the high street.
Review 15:Shower could have been more powerful, seemed to take ages to shower and wash hair
Review 16:Everything was great, clean and comfortable accommodation and friendly and helpful staff.
Review 17:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 18:Location was great, handy for the city but just far enough away from nightlife so as not to be disturbed by noise....even from the 3 pubs not 100 yards away.
Review 19:The icing on the cake for us was a lounge in which you could chill out. Having travelled by train the guest house was only approx 12 min walk from the station and city centre, There were also two bus stops within 100yds for those with less mobility to reach these points. Nicely located.
Review 20:Very friendly host warm and welcoming. Great room large bathroom. About a 5-15 min walk to resturants pubs and bars depending on what your looking for.
Review 21:Room far too warm and I was on the ground floor so couldn't go out and leave the windows open, recommend a room on the first floor
Review 22:Good location and great breakfast
Review 23:Not the hotels fault but a neighbour had an incident in the night and the police were called which meant a severe lack of sleep. Not the hotels fault and could have happened at any hotel.
Review 24:Staff were helpful and friendly. Hotel was close to where our family live so was perfect due to visiting a new born baby
Review 25:This was not the first time at the Corner House for me, and, as always it was an excellent stay! The location is within walking distance of both Botchergate & the city centre, yet is almost an oasis of quiet!
Review 26:Stairs, if your old ask in advance for something on the lower floors
Review 27:Great bed and breakfast staff were accommodating and friendly and a great breakfast, this isn't the Hilton, but the money it's the next best thing, close to shops and bars, but far enough out of town to avoid the noise
Review 28:Rooms were small and a bit cramped. Also, booking site said there were 3 twins and a full in the room, however, there was NOT, so we had to book another room upon arrival.
Review 29:nice for a pet-friendly stop over. Very friendly staff and fantastic breakfast!
Review 30:Noisy the first night as nearby pub was noisy but they moved me on the second night to a quieter room at the back of the hotel.
Review 31:Central location. Good value. Nice breakfast.
Review 32:The steps up , we where put in the attic lively room but being over 50 the steps where a bit much with luggage , they got smaller has you went up
Review 33:The beds and wifi , breakfast was good value
Review 34:Exceptionally good value for money. Perfectly pleasant room with everything you need. Great, accommodating staff and a good breakfast. Clean room, comfortable bed. Rather alarming noise at about 6:30am which I assume was someone having a shower, but it added to the charm!
Review 35:Pokey attic room with low beams so forever banging head as you stand up. No hot running water in basin as no pressure. Shower cubicle actually in the room, not part of the 'bathroom' no facility to put anything so have to tread water across room to reach towel/ clothes etc. Room very hot as Velux window wouldn't open more than a few millimetres, had to have a fan on all the time to cool it down. Siting of bathroom mirror six inches too high to be of any use for average person.
Review 36:Good location for ease of access to train station and local bus service.
Review 37:A little noise from nearby pub, but not a big problem (& it was Saturday night)
Review 38:Near city centre & railway station, very easy to find. Supermarket, takeaways, restaurants & pubs within minutes on foot. Very clean room & friendly staff.
Review 39:my partner found stairs a bit of a probem as he has a walking stick. Also step into shower a bit steep.
Review 40:our room was lovely and breakfast great value for money.
Review 41:A perfect place to break any long journey from southern England to Scotland. Comfy, well equipped rooms, easy parking and, above all, great value for money!
Review 42:There was car park facilities, the guesthouse wasn`t far from the Town centre, there was tea and coffee facilities in the room and the breakfast was good.
Review 43:Water pressure in shower was a little low. Everything else was PERFECT!!
Review 44:Lovely and clean room with a very warm and comfortable bed. Excellent full English breakfast.
Review 45:The shower was well set out but the water pressure made it difficult to control the temperature. I could only have it to hot or cold.
Review 46:The staff were very friendly and helpful who provided a good cooked breakfast. The bedroom was spacious and very clean.
Review 47:Stairs, was at the top of the building and was quite a hike, the stairs narrow at the top and is hard to navigate with luggage
Review 48:Staff very accommodating, breakfast was great, for the price paid it was fantastic value for money, close to town and night, but far enough away so noise isn't a problem. The outside doesn't do the inside justice, which is clean and modern
Review 49:The ceiling is a little bit too low for me as it is half of the loft...
Review 50:The room is very clean and well decorated with walking distance to the city centre and railway station. There is an ASDA supermarket just opposite the entrance of the street. It is very convenient if you would like to keep something for your stay yourself.
Review 51:Nothing.
Review 52:The owners were very helpful in allowing a late arrival (after running the Cumbria Way Ultra). The room was very clean, comfortable and a nice shower. The breakfast was great.
Review 53:Great place. I used it as a base to tour Scotland & The Lake District on my bike. 5 minutes to train station & bike routes. 15 minutes on train to Penrith. Friendly owners & good hearty full English breakfast. Ten minute walk to town centre.Loads of pubs nearby...Asda over the road. Will stay there again.
Review 54:not a bad experience but just a small point to note. beds are 3 foot which is lovely but the duvets are a little too narrow
Review 55:excellent value for money. very clean. comfortable beds. lovely breakfast.
Review 56:My room at the front was very quiet even though main road only 100 mts away. Room was very clean and bed comfortable. Train station only 8 mins walk which suited me as im a pensioner.
Review 57:N/a
Review 58:I was amazed at how nice and clean this b&b was. I thought for the size and money, there wouldn't be much to see. However it was lovely and the staff were amazing. We wanted to go shopping in Carlisle and the staff offered to look after our luggage for the day free of charge, we thought this was amazing. I would rate the staff 10/10 along with the b&b itself, would highly recommend.
Review 59:A basic but comfortable value for money en-suite single room. Attic room with limited headroom over a lot of the floor area so anyone 6' or over might find it awkward.
Review 60:Excellent location for trips north or south of the border. The lakes within easy reach and other national parks close by. Motorway link very close. Hadrian's Wall and Roman forts minutes away. Comfortable accommodation and staff very friendly. Great for a stop over, which I desired. Recommended!
Review 61:One of the single beds in our twin room was located right up against one of the 2 windows to which the headboard was insecure and it was very dusty behind both beds and I removed dust from the valance. However we certainly would use this B&B again.
Review 62:The owner was very friendly and had no problem with us having our 2 beloved well behaved dogs in our room with us and did not charge extra for allowing us to have the dogs in our room which was very much appreciated.Parking was also a great bonus.
Review 63:Not applicable.
Review 64:Very close to the town centre and train station, but far away enough not to be bothered by the close proximity nightlife that is Botchergate. The room was small, but I wasn't expecting anything different for the good value rate. Both the room and toilet/shower room were spotlessly clean and the bed was perfect for our taste (firm). The lady in charge, didn't catch her name, was friendly and, although she wasn't based in the B&B, was very quick to appear when I returned after checking out earlier to collect my bags. If you're a Celtic fan like me, try Gallagher's Irish Bar on the main road just along from the B&B. It's like Baird's bar on Glasgow's Gallowgate has been transported to Carlisle!!!
Review 65:Shower pressure a bit low, but quite usable.
Review 66:Handy to city centre and restaurants, Very good breakfast, helpful and friendly host, clean and comfortable.
Review 67:Location not the nicest and bit near to the town for overnight noise.
Review 68:Low price but still had plenty of space and en suit bathroom. Opened the rear gate so I could securely park my motorcycle.
Review 69:Luxury shower in size and would benefit from a big shower head and more water power. Just a tip though not complaint.
Review 70:Excellent double room with comfy four poster bed, complementary wine. Coffee facilites great even with a tea pot ! Breakfast cooked to order delicious. Free wi fi too.
Review 71:The guesthouse is conveniently located: just a few minutes' drive away from the M6 and less than 10 minutes' walk into Carlisle city centre. We also enjoyed the complimentary glasses of wine (which came with our booking - we had booked the room with the four-poster bed)! The owner was very helpful and gave us a good overview of (and directions to) the restaurants nearby.
Review 72:I had to leave early so didn't experience breakfast, which previous stayers had said was excellent!!
Review 73:Very spacious and feature rich room. Quiet location, but I did have a room at the back.
Review 74:The only thing that let it down was the discomfort of the pillows, they were very hard and I struggled to sleep on them, if the pillows were changed for better quality ones this would have been excellent,
Review 75:Lovely friendly staff and very clean, room was very nice, breakfast was great.
Review 76:Great accommodation choice for budget travelling, supermarkets nearby, restaurants and pubs too. Friendly staff and clean. Pub had a band playing nearby but not loud enough to disturb us.
Review 77:Nothing
Review 78:We overall loved the cleanliness, and the very spacious rooms. Tea making facilities and the free parking right outside the hotel!!!. Would definately return.
Review 79:Every time someone flushed a toilet in the hotel the basin in my room burgled this kept me awake. There was a gang of teenagers outside when I arrived this was a little off putting. Sounded like someone kicking a football against the wall late at night this also kept me awake.
Review 80:Friendly receptionist
Review 81:Our 22yr old daughter slept on top of the duvet as the mattress was very uncomfortable (attic room). The general appearance of the streets surrounding the G/house was unkept.
Review 82:It was for one night! Owners and staff were very friendly ,accommodating and cooked a nice breakfast.
Review 83:Yale Lock high in door, difficult to reach and lock door, slightly lower in door would help.
Review 84:Great location, friendly staff, lovely fresh breakfast. Room was clean and tidy, toiletries supplied.
Review 85:Shower was very slow and shower curtain rail fell down. Price included breakfast but as I was out early (7.30am) they couldn't provide a cooked breakfast. There was no price reduction however.
Review 86:Comfortable and clean, decent size ensuite.
Review 87:The door to room wouldn't shut prop unless you slammed it , squeaky bed whenever you rolled over would wake me up Staff could do with learning how to smile too
Review 88:Breakfast was good
Review 89:Great B&B . Lovely host and quiet helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Bar downstairs to have a drink if you need. Short walk to city centre for resturants and eating. Excellent breakfast. Off street parking. Would definitely recommend.
Review 90:Very clean and well maintained, spacious room with bathroom, within a short walking distance from town centre. A big supermarket just across the road.
Review 91:Only niggle was that I was kept awake both nights of my stay by live music from the pub across the road.
Review 92:Staff are very welcoming and friendly, feels like they can't do enough for you, breakfast is excellent.
Review 93:Pub opposite had very loud music blasting out until after 1 am on Saturday night.
Review 94:Nice breakfast. Plenty of tea & coffee in room. Room clean & tidy. Parking pass given for on street free parking. Located near train station/ Asda/ takeaways, but not the best looking area.
Review 95:Room didn't have a tap the kettle would fit under!
Review 96:Cleanliness and friendly atmosphere. Comfortably small for guests to chat easily at breakfast. It was ideal for my need to break a journey north.
Review 97:Third floor (attic) was a little small, as we are 6ft tall we found ourselves ducking alot due to the sloped ceilings in bedroom n bathroom...a few dents in the ceiling showed us we were not the first to have troubles
Review 98:Close to food, great security
Review 99:Staff were rude upon arrival and very unhelpful with basic requests. It immediately gave me a negative impression of the place. Room was okay, but very basic up a ridiculously tight staircase. Breakfast was poor - you'd be better off going to the wetherspoons just down the road.
Review 100:The location is good - just a 5-10 minute walk from the city centre. That's about it.
Review 101:Roof room tight small stairs to top floor with very low ceiling, nice shower but my head kept hitting the ceiling.
Review 102:The breakfast tea was the best definitely hit the spot. Overall breakfast was nice and good wifi.
Review 103:We liked the conversation and advice at breakfast and in the evening. We liked the en suite baths. We loved the hot porridge and the robust breakfast. We especially enjoyed Jeffs willing help when we left the luggage cover from our rental in his drive. he saw to mailing it to the rental company in Edinburgh. what a great favor!
Review 104:Very helpful staff. We were on a cycle trip and needed somewhere secure to store bikes. They found us a room to put them in and rearranged their breakfast time, making it earlier so that we could leave early
Review 105:everything, close to amenities as well felt welcome on arrival and the room was great, enjoyed the morning breakfast anything you want was on hand and the service was fab, definitely going back this week and coming weeks even if its only 1 night or a week its a great stay
Review 106:The welcome was very good. Linda, the receptionist, was very helpful, she insisted on carrying our bags upstairs to our room. Everything was spotless, so clean, She was always extremely friendly and helpful; whenever we saw her. In fact, all the staff we came in contact with were friendly and polite. The food was very good and plenty of it! Would recommend this guest house to everybody!
Review 107:The staff were very friendly towards me and helpful. I had a budget, single room which was perfectly adequate for an overnight business stay. The place was clean and well decorated and there were take-aways nearby (which was helpful when I arrived quite late). Breakfast was served in a timely fashion (available from 7:30) and I wasn't far from the motorway to continue my onward journey.the next day.
Review 108:Booked a double - got a twin - asked if there was a double and told " no I only work here". Room on attic floor - hard going and heavens forbid if there was a fire.,
Review 109:The breakfast was very good and the service was very good
Review 110:The location is excellent, right off the motorway and a 5min walk into the town. All the staff were friendly, the place is spotless, the breakfast was excellent, for what you pay it is first class
Review 111:Shower not provided in shared bathroom, toilet needed four flushes on average, heater could not be turned off, bathroom mirror light did not work. My concerns with toilet were not addressed by staff.
Review 112:Good breakfast. Had stayed here twice previously without any complaints.
Review 113:The room felt too hot at night, but the windows could be opened whilst still secure so our second night was very much cooler.
Review 114:The breakfast was fantastic and plenty of it!! The room was very clean and comfortable, it had all the facilities we needed, including en suite shower and bathroom facilities. We were given a front door key to come and go as we please, and the hotel was very quiet so there was no disturbance at night.
Review 115:Spacious, warm and clean accommodation. Home cooked frozen meals available - the lasagne we had was delicious - and their little 'shop' stocks enough for a decent breakfast. Definitely worth staying at.
Review 116:Older family members struggled with steep stairs to room.
Review 117:Lovely Breakfast. Dogs well accommodated for. Staff friendly and helpful. Amenities close by.
Review 118:The guest house was very clean, andcomfortable ad nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The breakfast was excellent. We would certainly have no hesitation on booking again if we needed to.
Review 119:CLEAN AND COMFY ROOM QUITE SPACIOUS ROOM AND BATHROOM. EXCELLENT BREAKFAST, GREAT FACILITIES AND FRIENDLY STAFF. NEAR TO RESTAURANTS AND BARS. LOOK FORWARD TO OUR NEXT VISIT.
Review 120:Nice room, nice decor especially the bathroom. <10 minute walk to the town centre. Staff were understanding when delays en route made us an hour late for check-in. Permit given to allow us to park nearby.
Review 121:Room was terrible and in some respects would certainly fail a Health and Safety inspection. Loose floorboards, loose and dangling wires, tiny basin standing on low table type structure to gain required height and toilet housed in small cupboard with damaged plywood walls. Cannot justify 3 stars.
Review 122:Breakfast OK
Review 123:First visit bathroom separate - second visit in my room. I am allergic to milk and citrus so don't eat cereals unless it is with apple or cranberry juice - only orange and grapefruit juice available
Review 124:Really friendly staff
