Reviews for The Lodge In The Vale

Review 1:Disappointing breakfast - not much choice and served between a very limited time

Review 2:Clean, friendly staff (and dog), roof window - you're able to look up at thousands of stars, beautiful views and smart premises

Review 3:No complaints. Staff were kind enough to get in gluten free bread for me for breakfast but I wasn't informed until we left which was a shame! Shower was a little cramped which meant we had to be careful not to burn ourselves on the metal pipe.

Review 4:Lovely location and not too far by car to Keswick. Nice cafe for tea, cake and some alcoholic drinks in evening. Room and hotel very clean with modern feel.

Review 5:Because of flooding the main access road was blocked which made it very difficult to reach the hotel. (we did not have a car)

Review 6:The breakfast was very very nice! hotel is close by the helvellyn and other nice walks

Review 7:Always come away thinking that the cafe/bar is really under sold/used. It could do so much better!

Review 8:Location, staff and the whole relaxed feel is excellent

Review 9:No hot meals available however this wasn't too much of a problem.

Review 10:The lodge itself is immaculate, more than acceptable facilities albeit no restaurant, more of a cafe. Breakfast was nice but continental - quite a choice of food. The Kings Head pub (sister hotel) was fantastic for food and just down the road - steak was excellent. Access to the whole of the Lake District was excellent.

Review 11:We knew that a cooked breakfast was not included but a continental one was. It could have been better. When I asked for green tea/ fruit tea I was told we had to pay extra. I have stayed at other B and Bs for similar prices and always had a good hearty cooked breakfast. I think more effort and choice for the continental breakfast would make it better

Review 12:Location was very good. Nice clean rooms.

Review 13:no bar, no restaurant, very hard beds, rooms are small, bathrooms not very clean....cant be called showering when catching the few drops that come out. for a night it`s ok...

Review 14:very nice staff,

Review 15:Small amount of mould in the shower, non-alcoholic drinks very expensive

Review 16:Friendly staff, beautiful location, nice small hotel, excellent prices for room/breakfast

Review 17:No tea or coffee making facilities unless you don't mind paying for coffees or teas in the cafe area.

Review 18:The location is stunning and only a few minutes from the nearby town of Keswick

Review 19:Situated in a really great place, was a shame we couldn't get out to do any walking, maybe next time. Room was small double, cosy enough for the two of us, mattress was OK, might try for a bigger room next time.

Review 20:Self serve breakfast was disorganised and cramped. Very quiet over breakfast. Unwelcome feeling from the main lady running the place. Everything felt like an effort, but I think this was due to her being under staffed and still finding her feet with the new hotel. I am presuming it hasn't been open long. If they sort breakfast and have someone clearing tables/ filling up milk , it would be better. Bathrooms could have been better. If the main lady can have a warm and friendly approach it will make a huge difference.

Review 21:Location was good. Room was acceptable for the price. Basic but fair for the cost. Modern and very similar to a Premier Inn. They filled the flasks for us every day.

Review 22:Hairdryer cello taped together wasn't brilliant!! Wish they did a full English breakfast option!!

Review 23:The lodge is a great little place, lovely rooms with all you need, staff are friendly and helpful.

Review 24:I thought for the money spent, more could have been offered for breakfast other than continental.

Review 25:Loved the location...right opposite the bus stop into the town centre. Reception was extremely informative and friendly and helpful!

Review 26:Good value - many in the area were much more. It is off on its own, but there was a good pub a short drive down the road. The bed was comfortable and the hotel was clean.

Review 27:there is nothing we disliked about our stay

Review 28:Myself and friends visited for a 1 night stay. we all found our stay fantastic. would definitely recommend this place to friends and family. we will be visiting again.

Review 29:I couldn't stay longer

Review 30:Staff were great, room was very clean & toiletries & tea/coffee was plentiful. Great experience for a solo traveller. They helped me with a walking route & let me leave my car there after I'd checked out so I could walk up Helvellyn - truly fabulous walk! They also checked I got back ok, which was a lovely touch

Review 31:Reception staff not friendly at all. Did not even showed us our room. Didn't asked how was our stay. When I asked about wifi password the girl just said "we'll it's in the information book in your room" - really? I'm not happy about service at all. Also the shower was disgusting... did not even used that (we went to another hotel the following morning and had an early check in when we could have a shower). Shame as the hotel its in a lovely location. Won't be back and won't recommend.

Review 32:Location

Review 33:I am struggling to find things I did not like but I suppose if I was to be really picky then the Wifi was a bit slow, but that being said this is not a place you go to experience super fast broadband.

Review 34:Lovely setting right next to lake Thirlmere and at the foot of Helvelyn.

Review 35:Unfriendly staff in cafe; asked if I could have herbal tea instead of standard tea/coffee but was told I would be charged extra for it - we're talking a tea bag and boiling water!! Mattress was hard, a little uncomfortable. Room was covered in dirty marks and had dead spiders on the ceiling

Review 36:Design and location of building fantastic; made to feel welcome on arrival by friendly reception staff. Breakfast, despite other things, was lovely.

Review 37:How tired the lodge felt. The room we stayed in was really small and we had so many things wrong in the room it was a joke they even thought it ok to let it out in the first place

Review 38:The location

Review 39:No evening meal on site, and their normal pub is a 15 minute walk (not good if raining) or a 2 minute drive away (not good if want a drink with meal), also on our visit Sunday night that pub was under inspection so no meals there! Told nearest available would be Keswick! Also perhaps a personal thing but we found matress uncomfortable.

Review 40:Friendly, helpful staff. Modern clean building in picturesque surroundings. Easy parking. Good shower.Continental breakfast good and sufficient.

Review 41:Picturesque location and lovely modern little hotel . The location is perfect to visit all parts of lakes. Excellent buffet breakfast. Will stay again.

Review 42:the bath room could do with a little tlc but did not afect awere stay there

Review 43:the location was great for both ambleside/ keswick for walking in these areas

Review 44:Let down by three big problems 1) awful pillows, no one could sleep. 2)The room got really hot/stuffy but if you opened windows road noise was bad from 5:30 am. 3) We had been given a room suitable for disabled and the bathroom was hugely disappointing, brown stains on shower curtain and resembled a poor hospital bathroom

Review 45:Location great, general areas and room were all furnished nicely and breakfast was good.

Review 46:The cafe/bar shuts at 9pm, would prefer a later closing time. We only had a velux roof window in our room so could not take advantage of the views.

Review 47:Nice clean, modern building. Great breakfasts. friendly, helpful staff.

Review 48:Surprisingly shabby fittings - bedside tables loose and wonky (glass of water slid off), also bathroom shelf. Although convenient to break journey, a bit remote if staying longer.

Review 49:Excellent buffet breakfast, excellent Wi-Fi, good choice of TV channels, comfortable room, convenient location, very quiet, lovely views. Would stay again.

Review 50:Breakfast was as described but would have been so much better if offered coffee from the barista machine rather than a flask, and fresh tea bags and hot water would not be difficult to provide

Review 51:The location is ideal for walking, peace and quiet - just what we were looking for

Review 52:No restaurant. Meals have to be taken at nearby pub as is full English breakfast. It is a bit far to walk and on a main road without footpaths. No lounge area.

Review 53:Clean and comfortable, continental breakfast was good

Review 54:Rooms are really tiny. We were only there for 1 night. Any more and would have felt very claustrophobic .

Review 55:Quiet and picturesque location. Ask for a room on top floor if possible.

Review 56:Horrible, very tiny bedroom, way too small for a couple and two suitcases. Ensuite was so small, the door leading into the ensuite did not open fully. The shower cubicle was so small and tight is was very difficult to bend and wash you feet. Would I go back or recommend- NO

Review 57:A modern building with good amenities, able car parking and friendly staff. Would I go basck or rewcommend- NO see further why.

Review 58:Had such a good weekend at the Lodge! We were originally booked for one night but decided to stay for two and were duly accommodated! Lovely location with the sister pub only a 15 min walk away and a short drive to Keswick! Staff were friendly and breakfast was lovely. Will definitely be coming back!

Review 59:It feels very much like a "Travel Lodge" for walkers and mountain bikers. Not a spot for a romantic night away.

Review 60:Location and stunning surrounding views.

Review 61:The only thing wrong with this place is that the front door closes softly 90% of the way then bangs shut for the last 10% every time someone goes through it and you can hear it in the bedrooms. We were hoping for a nice long lie after an exhausting weekend but were woken up early and kept awake with the constant banging of the door. This would be easy enough to fix.

Review 62:It has amazing views up and down the valley and is clean, comfortable, and peaceful. I also like that it's quite a unique type of build and so not your run of the mill hotel or guest house.

Review 63:Bed was small and quite hard, also the room was really hot and the window didn't open very wide

Review 64:View was spectacular, decor lovely and modern and the breakfast was great, lots of choice for continental style.

Review 65:Rooms were small. Walls in bedroom and bathroom in need of cleaning. Dirty marks everywhere and painting terrible. Somewhere to hang a hand towel in the bathroom. Hot rail in bathroom, heating and bathroom fan has switches that you don't know where they are.

Review 66:Location between 2 lakes. Staff were excellent. Breakfast more than adequate for a continental.

Review 67:The room was really small. Two people could not move around at the same time. The bed was very hard.

Review 68:Lovely location and the place had a nice feel. No problem with parking!

Review 69:Would be nice if evening meals could be offered.

Review 70:Location was perfect. The en-suite rooms are a good size with great facilities and spotlessly clean. Continental breakfast offered a wide choice and was substantial enough to fill up our son and that's a challenge!

Review 71:The communal dining room / lounge area shut at 9.30pm with no where else to sit in a large group all together. The mattress and pillows were too hard.

Review 72:Freedom to come and go without signing in and out. Loved the location.

Review 73:Continental Breakfast was good but would of liked the opportunity to have something hot.

Review 74:Very comfortable rooms with great facilities. Good location for reaching local towns and walks. Friendly and efficient staff

Review 75:The lack of somewhere to sit ,the sloping roof which caused us to bump our heads occasionally. the heater in bedroom 6 didn't work during the time we were there.

Review 76:the receptionists were very professional and helpful and informative.Liked the casual atmosphere in the breakfast room. Nobody nothered and fussed us during our stay.

Review 77:I'd say price. But its like un-optional added extras with breakfast, wifi and parking added into the price.

Review 78:The beds are very comfortable. Free breakfast, free wifi and free parking. Staff are inviting and happy. It's in the middle of nowhere! Perfect.

Review 79:Wifi at one end of the building was weak but excellent in other areas

Review 80:Friendliness and helpfulness of every staff member;modern clean facilities including nice general facilities. On premises parking; lovely setting; great historic pub with great food 15mins walk nearby.

Review 81:No issues.

Review 82:A short distance from Keswick and away from the noise you get stopping in one of centre locations. No Greggs delivery at 4am smashing metal cages around the street or noisey nightclub.

Review 83:The room was a bit hot. A bit remote from shops and restaurants. You have to drive into Keswick.

Review 84:Clean and comfortable. In the countryside, car parking, good continental breakfast

Review 85:Excellent Location with fantastic views of the countryside. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Continental breakfast was very good with lots of choice. Room was clean and comfortable. Will definitely stay here again.

Review 86:We didn't pay full price for the room, so can't complain too much, but it's not worth £110/night. Room was nice but basic (bit lacking in personality?), looked out onto the road, no bathtub, breakfast was a bit uninspiring. The hotel is isolated, doesn't have a restaurant, and there is only one eating option in walking distance - inconvenient if you're backpacking and don't have a car.

Review 87:Staff were helpful, wifi was great, comfortable room, we were able to dry our boots in a separate room.

Review 88:Hotel was lovely clean and comfortable were greates by nice staff on arrival and told about breakfast and also about the pub up the road where you can go for meals. My boyfriend emailed a few days before our stay and asked for rose petals to but put on the bed in a heart shape which was a lovely surprise and staff went out of there way to do this for us. I could not rate the breakfast as we did not get up for breakfast as served early.

Review 89:Towels were not cleaned Room heating didnt work Wifi signal was poor in the rooms

Review 90:staff was very helpful and polite Location was quite nice close to city, 10-15mins drive from keswick Good breakfast

Review 91:The Kings Head/ Arms is not a great place to recommend to guests to go for meals to be honest. The menu was basic with not much choice and the staff were moody, not a friendly welcome at all.

Review 92:The relaxed atmosphere and location.

Review 93:The idyllic setting and being so welcoming to pets. The bedroom was ideal and still so quiet despite other guests staying. We were also impressed with the continental breakfast choices available .

Review 94:The room window lock was broken and could not be secured. When we complained no offer of a change of room or repair was offered. The staff did not appear interested and advised that they were aware of the issue but could do nothing about it. Most unsatisfactory.

Review 95:Location and very nice breakfast apart from hot drinks.

Review 96:Could not fault anything

Review 97:Good all rounder. could not fault any part of our stay lodge very clean, staff helpful, enjoyed continental breakfast, good location.

Review 98:I was quite disappointed with the breakfast, I was hoping there would be a cooked breakfast at hand although instead there was very little choice other than cereal and toast. I also didn't like how there was not a restaurant at the lodge and we had to travel elsewhere to eat.

Review 99:I loved the location of the lodge, the view was peaceful and lovely. The room was nice, bed was very very comfy and a good choice of channels to watch on the TV.

Review 100:Didn't expect room to be so small. I also wasn't happy about the breakfast, wasn't anything much to eat other than cereal...

Review 101:The staff were helpful and friendly.

Review 102:Easy to find, fantastic choice for (continental) breakfast, friendly staff, great location for the hills and & plenty of free car parking. On-site café and a15 minute walk to the pub.

Review 103:Brilliant staff and comfortable stay. Great place for a weekend getaway. Breakfast is continental but brilliant quality. All fresh products and extremely tasty.

Review 104:It's a little secluded but that's kinda the point. The car park is a bit tight.

Review 105:Comfy bed, mice facilities, friendly staff and nice buffet breakfast

Review 106:Had to make our own bed. Stayed 3 nights, bathroom cleaned once! Room heating almost none existent. The room heater has no control other than "on" and switches itself off once it reaches the hotels pre set temperature. In our case that was about 18/19 degrees. Not ideal when its below freezing outside!

Review 107:Location Modern feel to the lodge Staff are great Wifi Breakfast, though only continental was fresh and a nice change from just cereals etc.

Review 108:Nice clean and modern hotel with good facilities and within close travelling distance to Keswick Centre. Great location with excellent views. Good breakfast choice.

Review 109:Room was noisy from road, double glazing ill fitting. Blind needed to be bigger, headlights from traffic during night kept waking us up.

Review 110:The staff were excellent, the room was spotless. The breakfast was lovely.

Review 111:Our room appeared not to have been serviced apart from the cups being washed.

Review 112:Location, continental breakfast, fast wifi,on site free parking, the lodge style of building

Review 113:Lovely clean hotel, great location and reasonably priced but a bit disappointed that no cooked breakfast was on offer. If you're looking for hot food go elsewhere but it you're happy to forfeit a full English for a cheaper rate this is ideal.

Review 114:the mattress was extremely hard and uncomfortable, as were the pillows. Assurance that the management will be changing these soon I would be encouraged to book again.

Review 115:Generally a good location for our needs. Room was clean but little floor space around the bed. Breakfast had good range of choice in buffet help yourself style.

Review 116:Being charged for having a pet with us when we didnt actually get anything for the charge & didnt know that there was going to be a charge until checking out. Stayed somewhere else recently in the Lakes which also charged for pets but we were provided with a bed & bowls etc (just a welcome gesture really). Our bed was not comfortable at all. Was a bit overpriced for what we got in my opinion compared to other places we have stayed before in the area.

Review 117:Location was good, only a ten minute drive to Keswick.

Review 118:No hot food available at anytime. No bar or lounge to sit and relax after travelling. Very remote. Staff not very friendly. Would never consider staying again, rather sleep in car to be honest

Review 119:Noisy extractor fans from adjoining rooms meant you couldnt sleep till others went to bed. We were not informed that room booked had no window, only skylight in ceiling. Fortunately staff were able to move us for our second night to room with a window.

Review 120:Staff were helpful and attentive. Breakfasts were fab. Coffee shop excellent. Location perfect for walking and not far to drive for evening meals. Discount on meals at Kings head great and lovely food too.

Review 121:Room was very small. Heating wasnt great. Feel the price was a bit high for such a small room.

Review 122:Free wifi. Clean room. Stunning views. Continiental breakfast was nice but a cooked option would have been nice.

Review 123:The cafe on site didnt have anything to eat as early as 5.30, apart from cake, even though it was open till 9.30!

Review 124:The accommodation was basic okay for a night or two. The staff were friendly. I suppose in comparison to other hotels in lakes it was reasonably priced.

Review 125:having to go out for dinner. their is no restaurant. add a restaurant and it would be fantastic.

Review 126:staff very good. room good. breakfast good. will stay again. easy to get everywhere from here

Review 127:No cooked food available but great pub and restaurant up the road that gives discount if you're staying up the road and is also pet friendly

Review 128:Great staff, good value and very pet friendly along with great location

Review 129:Bed and pillows were an 'aquired taste', noise from the adjacent road was very noticeable as was the sound of water pipes and the footsteps of people walking about the corridors making the floor creak... They could also do with keeping certain items for the continental breakfast cool as warm yoghurt, sweaty ham and cheese are not the most appetising things in the morning...

Review 130:Nice new building, very clean with nice helpful staff.

Review 131:The milk for tea/coffee etc was a little thin on the ground and the shower was pretty small for a 6ft2 rugby player but these are in no way complaints just suggestions to the establishment.

Review 132:The location of the property is fantastic and my request for an end of corridor room was given without question we were actually put in a Family room which was lovely. The staff were friendly and very helpful even providing a breakfast in a bag when we slept through our breakfast alarm.

Review 133:Can't really find a fault with this lodge. Although we tried to contact the lodge just prior to our arrival and despite calling a few times there was no answer.

Review 134:The lodge is designed to create modern and convenient accommodation. It has achieved this and a day out in the lakes, it's perfect to retire back to a warm clean room, with a nice cuppa from the room tea making kit and a good nights sleep for all the family. The family room is spacious and our children loved the bunk bed. This is all topped off with a really good quality continental breakfast to start you off for the next day

Review 135:the location just a little bit to far from places to eat and drink with out using the car

Review 136:the staff were very nice the place was clean and the rooms were of a good standard

Review 137:Everything from location to the friendliness of the staff was excellent. Flexible check in/out hours. Room was pristine in terms of cleanliness and was finished to a high standard. Hotel is extremely modern and classy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
