Reviews for The Coledale Inn
Review 1:The hotel was clean and comfortable and decorat d very tastefully. The staff were extremely welcoming and very helpful. A really nice family feeling as soon as you entered. We will definitely be staying again next year
Review 2:Room was small and toilet and shower compact but adequate. Could hear the other guests in adjacent rooms.
Review 3:Rooms were clean and staff work hard a running an efficient hotel. Brilliant location.
Review 4:Arrived at 8.55 - kitchen closed at 9. Helpful lady at check-in offered to keep the kitchen open for us so we could eat... then when we said we'd be checking out before breakfast opened in the morning, checked with the chef and offered us a full cooked breakfast (which was delicious!) an hour before it opened.
Review 5:I holiday a lot in Germany, France and Belgium and can't help but compare value for money. UK accommodation generally compares very unfavorably. Fixtures and fittings in the room especially. e.g.in the case of Coledale Inn, cheap, noisy, badly fitted door handles and locks, a malfunctioning TV remote and a rickety extractor fan that needed replacing. Also the breakfast bread was cheap supermarket sliced of the chewy, doughy kind.
Review 6:The staff and location were first class (see above). The bar, good beer and TV for the rugby world cup added to the enjoyment.
Review 7:There was nowhere to sit after I had eaten as the main bar was allocated to residents with dogs as their dining room. The bed was very firm and uncomfortable
Review 8:The food was really good, the room was very clean
Review 9:The bar upholstery has seen better days but it is a minor complaint.we
Review 10:Location being in a quiet village yet accessible to the A66 for mobility to other areas. Free wifi most important. All important parking available. Lovely room.
Review 11:room was of high standard.beds very comfortable.staff are all very helpful and friendly.room 18 was perfect -spacious and with its own private patio and parking space.
Review 12:Nothing. All was fantastic.
Review 13:A great location and very dog friendly. Lovely hotel with great staff. Clean, plenty of hot water, comfortable rooms and super meals cooked by a good chef.
Review 14:We stayed in room 2 just for one night, which was lovely, clean and spacious and had a fab view out towards Skiddaw. The staff were very friendly and the evening meal and the breakfast that we had were second to none. The hotel is in a lovely location and I would stay there again or recommend it to others.
Review 15:Good welcome, clean tidy room and some fine real ales. Good dinner menu and we'll cooked and presented meal. The room guests were all quiet and considerate - no undue noise. Breakfast was lovely.
Review 16:Two huge stair cases to climb to get to room. For the price I've had better BnB, wifi was terrible and hardly worked and the breakfast was pretty average too.
Review 17:Room was clean and tidy
Review 18:Nothing
Review 19:Stylish room away from the main entrance which was really great for us as we had dogs. Lovely staff and extremely dog friendly. Good food and beer :-)
Review 20:Nice B&B pub in quiet location, short drive to Whinlatter forest. Friendly staff good reasonably priced food, (big breakfast) nice rooms, comfy bed, shower adequate, (bit like a caravan shower), overall pleasant stay, would go again using the multiple day offers.
Review 21:Only one bedside lamp which is really awkward.
Review 22:Excellent early check in which suited us fine, from 12.00 which is the earliest check in we have ever had. Lovely garden seating which was great as the sun was shining
Review 23:No drying facilities for people on a walking holiday in an area visited by people on activity holidays.
Review 24:Nice outside area. Hotel clean. Pleasant staff. Good breakfast, but limited range; eg. no yogurt.
Review 25:One or two of the staff could have been a litlle more pleasant. Shame they let the place down.
Review 26:Everything was lovely, Gary and his wife were amazing, the food eas brilliant especially the fact they looked after my husband's gluten free diet. We will definitely come again.
Review 27:Breakfast was OK but could have done with yoghurt to put on fruit. Problem with eggs - poached were hard and scrambled were microwaved and solid.
Review 28:comortable, clean room. Good bed and bathroom. Evening meals very good quality and value. Very friendly staff - English and Roumanian. Good position in pretty village. Excellent garden with comfortable seating.
Review 29:the first room.very narrow 2 single beds toe to toe first time in 35yrs had one like this.but got nice double 2nd night
Review 30:location'friendly welcome pet friendly
Review 31:Wifi was off but due to provider.
Review 32:Bedroom refurb is good and sufficient room for a 4 day stay with walking gear. Breakfasts are substantial and tasty.
Review 33:The room was lovely, we had a little sitting room (room No. 1), the bed was extremely comfortable and the view from the windows was to die for. Breakfast and evening meal were super, very quick and friendly service and top quality pub food. Highly recommend the Coledale Inn, we will definitely go back.
Review 34:Very Comfortable Room. Friendly Staff And Great Food. Dogs Very Well Catered For And Our Greyhound Had A Lovely Time. Will Be Returning To The Coledale Later On In The Year For Another Break.
Review 35:We loved the location. There are lots of high and low level walks from the hotel, so no need to use your car. Excellent for dog owners. We didn't take our dogs, but we will next time.
Review 36:We didn't have a dog with us this time, but will definitely go back. Dogs allowed in the bar for breakfast and evening meal. Welcoming and friendly staff. Excellent bar food.
Review 37:Free wifi advertised, but it was not available in my room, or the dining room. So didn't use wifi in this hotel.
Review 38:Staff Food Pets were gorgeous and well behaved Room was wonderful Different lounges to relax in
Review 39:Nothing to report, Would give this hotel a ten out of ten.
Review 40:There was nothing that I didn't like about this lovely hotel. A short distance from Keswick in a beautiful setting in Braithwaite. Staff friendly, room lovely, breakfast fantastic, bar food good value for money. Tea and coffee facilities in the room with biscuits an added bonus these days.
Review 41:Only negative note is a lack of WiFi in our room. Possibly applies to other rooms. Perhaps the drawback of being an old building. WiFi can be accessed in certain locations in the hotel.
Review 42:Very nice and tranquil location. Easy 5 minute travel by bus or car to Keswick. Staff are very friendly. Good breakfast
Review 43:Room recently refurbished but my wife found the shower poor , couldn't,t rinse hair properly. Otherwise fine.
Review 44:All staff were friendly and helpful , but the breakfast waitress , Pam , was a gem!
Review 45:There was nothing I didn't like.
Review 46:- food reasonable quality and price (think pub grub rather than gastro) -breakfast good -room clean and bed comfortable -en suite modern fittings -good beer It is a comfortable traditional inn which provided comfortable accommodation and food. I was staying here as a base for 4 days walking on the northern fells. It was perfect for me. All staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 47:Nothing to speak of.
Review 48:We liked this hotel for several different reasons. The bar food and beers were excellent. Staff friendly and accommodating. The bedrooms were stylish and spacious with great views. Facilities, particularly the upstairs guest lounge were very good.
Review 49:The lack of sign posting, not very easy to find even when inside the village it's self. However finally spotted at top of hill through having seen its photograph on web site.
Review 50:Wonderful warm welcome. Gary, his wife Carol & staff were excellent throughout our stay, newly refurbished rooms were cosy & very comfortable tastefully decorated. We enjoyed a delicious evening meal & then relaxed with drinks by roaring open fires in the bar. Will certainly be making return visits .
Review 51:Minor issue as actual location was quite hard to find as postcode did not show in Satnav.
Review 52:Friendly, helpful staff. Comfy, cosy , warm atmosphere. Great food at reasonable prices. Rooms updated to a high standard. Stunning location and views.
Review 53:It was a bit hot in the night but not a real problem. Would have enjoyed hot chocolate on the tray in the room though!
Review 54:I liked the welcome, the log fires, the service and friendliness of the staff. The bedroom was very cosy.
Review 55:It was a little chilly later on in the evening until the night storage heater came on but it was a very cold wintery night outside so we did not mind and used the lovely tartan shawls to keep toasty.
Review 56:The staff were very understanding when I asked to change my room in order to be closer to my Dad. The joining rooms we stayed in were excellent and I am going to request them again for future visits.
Review 57:Having to come home.
Review 58:It's a lovely hotel. We love the fact that we can take the dogs with us and that they were made to feel as welcome as we were. We will be going back.
Review 59:coming home
Review 60:Ray: I'm hard yet soft, I am coloured yet clear, I am fruity and sweet. I am jelly. What am I? Donald: Jelly. Ray: Yeeeeees. used as a base for mountain biking and the hotel and staff are so chilled and accomadating, nothings a problem you feel welcomed and trusted .
Review 61:wifi was weak in hotel other than 2nd floor near the router, however didn't detract from enjoyment, couldn't use phone which probably enhanced it...
Review 62:pretty much everything, had a lovely time..
Review 63:The hotel is at the end of a narrow unmade lane. Without SatNav, difficult to find. Not well signed from the village (It was dusk when we arrived so I might have missed a sign.) Car Parking was also an issue. It took forever to find a spot.
Review 64:Once you get there, this Hotel is worth the visit. Good food, Friendly staff and a comfortable room
Review 65:Only one thing;- Breakfast commences at 08.00. A bit late for those wanting to make the most of short winter days. 07.30 would have been beneficial.
Review 66:Traditional "ambience" 19th cent character but updated. Pleasant smart rooms, good food, helpful friendly staff. Able to walk almost straight onto fell, only 5 mins from bus. Good selection of real ales, and nice choice of (mostly) traditional dishes. Overall reasonable value.
Review 67:Breakfast start time too late at 8.00am as we had to leave early for a Liverpool flight. Packed lunch given in lieu of breakfast which was good. Signs to hotel entrance not very clear.
Review 68:Comfortable rooms and lovely old fashioned atmosphere. Lovely views and helpful staff. Close to a variety of walks.
Review 69:Too many dogs in the hotel.
Review 70:Location - woke up to the view of hills and a lake. on site breakfast second to none and extensive evening meals. Went for a walk up hills behind Inn next morning on recommendation of staff - first class.
Review 71:Soap provided but not shampoo - or a hair drier, strange. Breakfast could have been better - egg hard and bacon and sausage under-cooked but that's just my preference.
Review 72:Staff very friendly, bar, lounge and restaurant on site. Pub quiz was entertaining. Easy to get to and location could not be faulted.
Review 73:The service in the bar was very good, food was excellent, (compliments to the chef). The only complaint if any was that we couldn't eat any more than the main course. The serving staff were all so polite and helpful. We will definitely come again.
Review 74:Great location, really friendly welcome. Comfortable room and good breakfast. Being able to take the dog with us was a real bonus. Will return and have already recommended to friends and family.
Review 75:Noise coming from the staircase in the hallway and downstairs.
Review 76:Beautiful large rooms and very clean and roomy en-suite. Ability to have an evening meal and breakfast downstairs very practical.
Review 77:Nothing really, everything was provided
Review 78:Good location in rural setting, we were in an annex which had a large room, good bathroom, comfy bed, breakfast was fine, staff friendly and helpful
Review 79:It has been my favourite since my first stay because it has easy access to every mountain plus animal pet friendly, the staff always helpful and the foods taste good,Keswick town is less than ten minute drive if you love shopping so for me it's a perfect place to rest after long walks or a long drive from Ben Nevis
Review 80:offhand staff. bedroom nothing like pics on website. (we were told our room had been changed when we actually checked in . were not asked if the room was suitable. it WAS NOT!) hotel has inadequate parking
Review 81:location. good food.
Review 82:Let down badly by tiny shower and a sink that was way too low. Had to leave toilet which was in a separate room and go into tiny shower room to wash hands . room 17
Review 83:Room good with good quality fixtures and fittings and a comfortable bed. Good size generally and very clean.
Review 84:Leaving to come home!!!! other than that have no critisisim of the "Inn" or staff.
Review 85:The location was ideal as a base to explore from. As an older couple we are limited to how far we can walk so our exploration was by car then short walks. As it was so central we managed to see virtually all the lakes in our 4 day stay. We found all the staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfasts filling and the inn very comfortable and relaxing and full of character of a Victorian house. Although it always seemed busy it never felt crowded. Would love to go back again (and certainly intend to) and have no hesitation in recommending it.
Review 86:Tiny ensuite bathroom literally out of shower on to the toilet. Not really an issue for one night stay.
Review 87:Lovely location, really dog friendly, high standard of rooms and quiet. Was great to be able to have our dog stay with us and be welcome.
Review 88:Excellent staff and very efficient service. Gary and Carol have the place running like clockwork. Spent several enjoyable days out walking, with evenings hanging out at the bar, swapping stories. Would definitely enjoy staying there again.
Review 89:We were in the annex - nice main room, but bathroom and toilet so small one couldn't get the cat in, let alone swing it!
Review 90:Nice cosy relaxed atmosphere. Lovely new beer garden. Good choice on menu.
Review 91:Our party included a child with disability and we received a a call from the inn to ask us how they could cater for our needs. fabulous breakfast and great sausages. Good play area for children.
Review 92:Shape of room forced arrangement with twin beds in line. Small TV in awkward position WIFI performance poor
Review 93:Wonderful views Excellent local ales and good food
Review 94:- soundproofing (sounds of steps on the floor above)
Review 95:- welcoming manager - very charming hotel - nice confortable room - free parking available near the room
Review 96:having to come home
Review 97:Lovely room excellently furnished even though we had two dogs with us. Breakfast nice and freshly cooked. we were able to keep dogs with us even at meal times as they had catered for both guests with or without dogs.
Review 98:Fantastic location, really friendly and accommodating staff, room was excellent - very comfortable beds, plenty of room and piping hot shower. Food was superb with plenty of choices for big and small appetites. Breakfast was also great. Were able to take the dog who was made to feel right at home. Couldn't fault it!
Review 99:One small criticism smell of cooking in our room for half an hour or so.
Review 100:Good welcome, helpful information book. Splendid views, scenic walks. Excellent dinner, steak & ale pie 10 out of 10. Slept like a log. Good breakfast.
Review 101:We had room 4 which sat adjacent to the kitchen so we could hear the industrial extractor - not really noisy so not a problem for us but maybe for others.
Review 102:Impromptu night away booked via booked.com on a good deal after a walk around Derwentwater and up Cat Bells. Recently modernised the hotel is nicely situated at the top of the village of Braithwaite just down the road from Keswick. Nicely decorated room, comfy bed and powerful shower, what more do you need after a good Lakeland walk?. Food and beer of course and they were spot on as well with a selection of hand pulled local real ales to slate my thirst. The hitel staff were all friendly and helpful. Recommended.
Review 103:i found the surrounding area great. The staff were always ready and available to render any assistance when required, without being intrusive. both my sister and i had a very relaxing stress free break at your hotel.
Review 104:- Toilets look like the ones of a cheap Travelodge. - Showers are not powerful enough. - You wake up with the smell of fried breakfast in your room.
Review 105:- Location: just a few minutes' drive from Keswick.
Review 106:Liked everything, location is beautiful and ideally placed for many hikes. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I have stayed at the Coledale twice and would highly recommend it , can't wait to go back.
Review 107:Room temperature was so hot and when we opened the window we were above the kitchen so emptying bottles into bins was so noisy from very early.
Review 108:Location was fabulous. Lots of great walks. Room was well decorated.
Review 109:we like the atmospher of the place it has a good bar and the food was of excellent quaility and the service was very good we were served very quickly and the man that served us was friendly as were all
Review 110:The bathroom and shower were far too small, my wife and I struggled to move in the shower and use the toilet, we are not large but of average build. On two occasions the waiting staff tried to give us someone else's order. The breakfast lacked variety, i only eat continental breakfasts but there were just two choices of juice and fruit which came from tins and i never saw any yogurts, croissants or fresh fruit.
Review 111:The room was large and comfortable, the evening menu had plenty of variety the meals were well cooked. The gardens and patio areas were very popular. The location was good.
Review 112:The room was modern and spacious and very clean. The gardens to this hotel are really lovely. I would definitely book this hotel again and recommend it to friends.
Review 113:Sometimes it smelt of old frying oil in the restaurant
Review 114:Loved the staff, breakfast and location. Our dog was as welcome as we were. Perfect location for a relax, some quiet time. Food was pub grub - perfect after a day walking. Rooms good size and very clean.
Review 115:Found the drinks and food prices have increased since last time we stayed, which does make you more inclined to eat out. Would have liked some croissants or similar with breakfast and maybe beans and hash options.
Review 116:Lovely place to stay and would def stay again! Lovely staff and Amazingly dog friendly.
Review 117:Only negative was finding it and then trying to park. Was a lovely sunny warm evening and there were extra folk enjoying a meal and a drink at the inn.
Review 118:Attention to detail in furnishings, comfort. Great views and was quiet and comfortable. Lovely breakfast and sitting room
Review 119:Everything. The location, the room no 18 was very spacious ,the staff could not have been more helpful.the breakfast waitress was so pleasant. We were so impressed that we wanted to stay a second night but they were fully booked and tried there best to find us another hotel.
Review 120:Shower was small for a large person. Reccomend room on lower floor for seniors.
Review 121:Service was excellent. Meals were very good. The room was spacious and clean.
Review 122:Souless badly designed Bedroom, ensuite tiny, bathroom door unsatisfactory.
Review 123:Brilliant friendly staff, Dog friendly
Review 124:Nothing.
Review 125:Great location friendly staff good food and beer. Wonderful breakfast set me up for the day.
Review 126:Food, staff, service
Review 127:Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, comfortable rooms and delicious food! Can highly recommend The Coledale Inn.
