Reviews for Bear Inn

Review 1:As with ALL hotels, inns, and B&Bs, the kettle needed descaling. A small detail but looking inside hotel kettles is scary, it only takes a little vinegar to keep them clean. This happens even in very high-end, expensive hotels.

Review 2:The inn does not offer breakfast in the dining room but provided all essentials (including fresh milk) in the room for a simple breakfast. Fantastic. Pub food downstairs in the evening of excellent quality and presentation. There were a sleeping mask and ear plus on the bed so I took the hint and used them, but honestly, I wash't aware of any problems.

Review 3:Room smelt a bit damp. We had had a few weeks of rain. Bathroom ceiling was a bit mouldy and in need of a clean. Couple of lights not working in the bathroom.

Review 4:Great location for our needs in the centre of town. Friendly, helpful staff. Great having the pub downstairs for a drink and no problems with noise - everything wound down at 11pm.

Review 5:Late check in, 5pm.

Review 6:Central location, large room, comfortable bed and nice big bathroom. Nicely decorated and good value compared to others we looked at.

Review 7:They ran out of pies! We could not verify if they were the best pies in Wiltshire.

Review 8:Comfortable room, friendly staff, bonus breakfast provisions, the pub itself.

Review 9:Only negative thing was there was no parking with the hotel, we had to park up the road but no big deal.

Review 10:Lovely hotel spacious bedroom and complimentary breakfast in our room. The restaurant and bar was really nice and cosy and their specialities pies were outstanding, with a good choice of ales and ciders. The staff were friendly and welcoming, definitely would return there.

Review 11:Our bedroom was comfortable, big in size with a fridge which provided an ample breakfast. The only problem we had was that we could not work out how the towel rail heated itself up!. We very much enjoyed our stay in what must have been a newly well thought out decorated room (room 1). Now we have located the Bear Inn we will certainly come again in the summer to visit Bath.

Review 12:Room was overlooked from buildings opposite and the curtains were semi opaque.

Review 13:Excellent room, modern with a hairdryer and a complimentary breakfast which made the morning very convinient. Lovely shower and a great room with nice bedding.

Review 14:Really quite noisy at night as you are obviously over the inn and it was Friday so I didn't realise how much i would hear in my room. Really difficult to get to sleep though they did have ear plugs in the room for you to use.

Review 15:Good service. Selection of breakfast cereals, juice, yoghurt and milk so you can relax and have breakfast in your room.

Review 16:The staff were unfriendly and gave the impression that having guests was an inconvenience! A course in customer care wouldn't go amiss. A real shame as all other aspects of Bear Inn were lovely.

Review 17:Our room was clean with a good supply of tea/coffee and other goodies. We tried their famous pies and were not disappointed. They are very tasty, full of meat and provided us a perfect meal for a cold evening.

Review 18:The Inn was lovely and a total bargain for what we paid! Loved the huge bathtub and shower, and very comfy bed. The cold breakfast provided in room was actually brilliant, as we didn't feel pressured to get up at any certain time. The Inn manager was very accommodating and allowed us to leave our bags on arrival and afterwards. We would (and hopefully will) certainly return.

Review 19:Superb location, charming place, lovely spacious room, very comfortable and surprisingly quiet as Sat night above a pub ...we would def stay there again!

Review 20:I didn't like that the room was shower only but was aware of this when booking. No parking which meant I had to wake up early than I would have liked to sort car parking out. No takeaway food allowed in room so couldn't relax with a burger after a night down one of the other local pubs.

Review 21:Room was a great size. They don't offer a breakfast but do offer cereals and fruit in room. Noisy road but ear plugs are in room. Lovely large room great value for money!!!!

Review 22:There is no parking had to find a space in the street, although Bradford upon Avon is poor for parking generally

Review 23:Friendly atmosphere, very nicely decorated room ,the food in the pub was excelent. There was no B&B facility but there were FOC breakfast snacks

Review 24:Informal, clean, excellent position in town. They'd thought of everything in the room too. Didnt want for anything. Beds too hard for me but I always bring a mattress topper along in case so I was fine.

Review 25:Could hear music and noise from downstairs in the pub until closing time. No parking - very difficult to find anywhere to park.

Review 26:Room and En-suite was spacious. Food was excellent.

Review 27:Pub could be a bit noisy but as it winds down at midnight it wasn't a big deal

Review 28:Staff friendly. Clean room. They say breakfast isn't supplied in the room rate but there was a few complimentary snacks supplies in our room.

Review 29:Access to property limited to 5pm. Tough if you arrive earlier. Not good humping suitcases around for a couple of hours. I know the website says 5pm but we thought there would be somewhere to leave luggage.

Review 30:Big room.

Review 31:Nothing, it was all good. However, next time I will set time aside to have one of their pies.!

Review 32:Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere in the Bar area and felt traditional which I like. Cereal and Tea or Coffee in the room was complimentary and there were plenty of cafe's/restaurants etc. very close by. Also great food and pies in the hotel. The cost of a large room was very reasonable and we will be staying there next time.

Review 33:Great location. Had the king room - large with ensuite, fireplace and couch. Walked down to dinner. Relaxed atmosphere. Inviting outdoor courtyard. The Staff were very friendly and good pub food. Games to play if you wish as well as a pool table.

Review 34:Great location. Had the superior double which was very large. Large bath and double shower. Even though there was no breakfast, the continental breakfast items were enough

Review 35:Check-in time of 5pm was a bit inconvenient but we managed around that.

Review 36:Perhaps we we're a bit lucky that the beer garden was not in use, as this may have added some noise and affected our sleep. So, for us everything was just what we wanted. Well organised, well appointed room and bathroom and very comfortable. Good value.

Review 37:The hot towel rack did not work and when staff informed they turned on the adjoining suite. The shower ceiling appeard to have mold on it as did some of the tile work. The suite faced the street and the lights for the store across the way shone all night, so the windows should have been provided with blackout drapes rather than us being given eye shields. Early a.m. traffic on the narrow street below caused noise enough to awake us at 6:30 a.m.

Review 38:The downstairs pub had very good food. The location allowed for easy walking to points of interest. The room fridge was well stocked for cereal, fruit and biscuit as well as tea and coffee.

Review 39:Could do with under the bed vacuum, but only noticed as I was looking for a stray sock. Everywhere else was clean.

Review 40:People were lovely. Food was stunning. Love the extra supply of bedding and complimentary breakfast bits, perfect for us as we always have to leave before breakfast is served! Excellent value. I certainly would return. Great place.

Review 41:Breakfast supplied in the way of cereal, drinks and packet croissant in the room with plenty of fresh milk from a well stocked fridge. Not a leisurely pub breakfast but very well done and suited us perfectly as we needed a prompt start.

Review 42:Wish it was my local! Ate in the pub. Fabulous food. Landlord made us feel really welcome. Brilliant music playing. And only a short stagger upstairs to our room which was big, beautiful and very comfortable.

Review 43:A cooked breakfast would be good but continental breakfast in room is a good ideal

Review 44:Very clean and large room really nice bathroom with large shower and bath

Review 45:Very hard bed - had to use spare duvets under me to be able to sleep - pillows very much the same

Review 46:Best pie pub I've come across. Really helpful staff Well done on the free breakfast provisions

Review 47:Pub opens until 12 on Fridays and Saturdays so was noisy with people sitting in the garden area. Only short-stay street parking available so had to park in station car park - £2 for 3 hrs and all day for £5.60 so not too bad.

Review 48:Very nice room with good selection of breakfast items. Fresh milk, fruit and yogurt in mini fridge with reasonably priced small bottles of wine.

Review 49:Light from the street at night .

Review 50:Friendly staff, good position in the town, food served on the premises was good, lots of fluffy white towels in the bathroom.

Review 51:Parking is not easy you have to park in surrounding residential roads which are hilly. The pavements are very narrow but as this an old historic town not built for today's traffic ypu accept it

Review 52:Location. Layout and size of room very clean. Friendly and helpful staff

Review 53:Car park facility very poor, on street parking which was way to far away was given impression parking near by. With 2 large cases plus hand luggage not at all suitable. My room above garden lounge very noisy until midnight also not good.

Review 54:Well maintained, spacious, clean room in a good central location. Friendly staff. Good selection of tea coffee and breakfast cereal in the room. Above the pub, which has is handy if you fancy a drink. The pub winds down at 11pm ensuring a quiet nights sleep.

Review 55:Our room was large with a very nice ensuite, as advertised on breakfast hence price but there was ample food supplies in the room ( cornflakes milk ext.) which was a nice touch. We were meeting friends so we did not use the pub it self but it looked friendly. We will be booking again. Derek and sue C

Review 56:finding parking ....but found the best place was the library car park (bridge st) just down the road and only £2.10 for 3 hrs, no charge 6pm-8am so ticket purchased just before 6pm would carry over to almost 11am :)

Review 57:Lovely room, clean and fresh ensuite, linen/towels, selection of complimentary goodies for breakfast, had read about road noise but didn't find this an issue at all.

Review 58:No parking available, but that's understandable.

Review 59:The guy at the bar was super friendly even though he was really busy. The pies were excellent and the room surprisingly trendy!

Review 60:Nothing, but do be aware that there is a pub courtyard at the back which is lively with chatter until 11pm. Not a problem really.

Review 61:Nice room. Breakfast arrangements were fine

Review 62:Only thing I would suggest is that the stair carpet leading to the rooms is either cleaned or changed. I imagine it is from clients visiting during he winter months - but it would not put be off staying again.

Review 63:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Booked a table in the evening for a meal and the food was very good. Overall great experience and Bradford upon Avon is a lovely place and only 8 mins by train to Bath.

Review 64:Parking is not convenient at best you would be 200yds further up the hill, we managed to park with no problems about 400yds further up the hill.

Review 65:The accommodation was clean, spacious and well kept. It was close to all the facilities and would have been convenient if we wished to walk around the area. Unfortunately there was no desert menu so we did not eat there, however the main courses looked fine.

Review 66:The room was spacious and beautifully decorated. Although there was no place to have breakfast the inn provided some continental breakfast items and a list of places nearby for different sorts of breakfast. Check out at 11.00 gave us time to go out and come back if desired.

Review 67:Don't stay here if you are not prepared to hunt for parking on a street some distance from the hotel and walk back.

Review 68:Room was large and comfortable. Great shower.

Review 69:Very friendly staff in a warm friendly atmosphere... Great beers and ciders in warming environment.. The luxury king double room was exceptional, comfy bed and lovely shower and s big TV to watch .. No breakfast served but so many places to choose from very close by.. Will deff stay again.

Review 70:Window blinds too thin, needs black out blinds rather than being supplied with eye masks. Very close to main road, therefore traffic noise starts early.

Review 71:Good location and clean, comfortable room.

Review 72:The noise from the road and the light through the window

Review 73:The pies, the man who greeted us and let us get changed even though our room wasn't ready (we were early and had a wedding to go to)

Review 74:1. 1st morning - woken at 6.15 as empty beer casks are rolled noisily outside 2nd morning woken at 6'30 by traffic noise. 2. 'Bear' is on main road, no pavement to speak of...difficult to unload cases etc 3. Parking is a nightmare in bradford on avon. 4. Very poor choices of ' breakfast' (cereals only)

Review 75:1. ' Pie Night'' ( Tuesday)....very good meal ! 2. Very nice area...good NT properties nearby.

Review 76:The room was very modern, spacious and clean. Whilst no breakfast is available there was a complimentary selection of cereals in the room. The staff were very helpful.

Review 77:The fact that there were absolutely no staff around! The barman gave me my key without explaining that there would be no staff at all in the building between 11pm and 11am. A complex system of three keys, three doors and a confusing way out -- not knowing where to return the keys until I suddenly spotted a box on an outer wall. This absence of staff does not make one feel either secure or welcome.

Review 78:The design and comfort of the bedroom. The availability of cereal and milk in the room, as the hotel offered no breakfast.

Review 79:The lack of parking ( had to walk to and from council car park at bottom of hill)

Review 80:The food and drinks selection, the cleanliness and friendly relaxed atmosphere

Review 81:Could not get shower cool enough - unusual for me as I like it hot! Did not get to speak to landlord before leaving so no chance to mention it. Would not stop us staying again though.

Review 82:Cleanliness and shower. Bi room. Well presented.

Review 83:Our top sheet hadn't been ironed, a small detail but an important one.

Review 84:This is a traditional yet pleasantly quirky pub in the middle of town. We liked it very much indeed and thought it was fantastic value for money (our room was huge). We didn't eat there this time (it was Sunday and the kitchen closed at 7pm) but the menu looks interesting.

Review 85:Booked this as a birthday gift for husband who loves pies. The guy checking us in and the room leaflet failed to inform us that food service stopped at seven on a,Sunday. We then found it hard to get a meal locally. Spoiled gift

Review 86:Great value . Comfy room and bed. Bathroom and shower good.. loved the look of the pub but sadly missed the window of food service on a,Sunday.

Review 87:The blinds were a little broken and hard to close. We were expecting breakfast, but found a brilliant cafe down by the canal.

Review 88:We were worried as we went up the rather dingy back stairs, but the room was excellent, very spacious, beautiful bath & shower room, sofa and very comfortable bed.

Review 89:The mattress was very soft. Black-out blinds would have been useful. Somehow my husband had told me there was definitely parking at the pub - he even said, you could always move the car into the car park after closing if it's full when you get there. I was on my way to a funeral and had so much stuff with me, so had to repack the car while parked on a double yellow line up the hill. I was also walking with a crutch, while trying to carry bags, neither of which helped my demeanour!

Review 90:The young man in the bar was very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was spacious, bright and clean, as were the bathroom facilities.

Review 91:We arrived and checked in at the bar with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We were taken to our room and given keys and told how to access the property if we were to come back late. The room is spacious (superior king size) and clean. Well lit lots of amenities and a very comfortable bed. The bath was huge and the shower was just as big. Everything was comfortable and welcoming. I will definitely be coming back here. Bradford on Avon is a very pretty town too.

Review 92:Only niggle is the breakfast arrangement - you are supplied with free cereals in your room - no option for a hot, sit down breakfast here in the restaurant. Wouldn't put me off staying again though but it's an unusual arrangement.

Review 93:Enjoyed having large spacious room, which appeared to have been freshly decorated. Furniture and bed to high spec. Staff helpful, friendly and able to ensure my bike was safely stowed overnight.

Review 94:No parking, very noisy at night people leaving the pub & talking under the window for 20 mins, basic wooden slat bed which collapse when sat on the end. Only 2 plug sockets which were took up with kettle & fridge, Breakfast was in the room already, tubs of cornflakes or tub of porradge oats (to be made with hot water.) single small servings.

Review 95:Large and moderne bathroom with plenty of showere wash/soap. Plenty of tea bags, coffee, sugar

Review 96:stairs but thats a personal gripe.

Review 97:Young gentleman behind the bar on arrival was so cheerful & helpful, he made us feel very welcome and explained everything in detail. He was happy to chat and give us a bit of local history,

Review 98:The somewhat slippery bulky pillows

Review 99:Location and cleanliness

Review 100:Cosy room with everything needed. Simple breakfast provided with cereal, yogurt, milk and juice in the room.

Review 101:Had to park quite a distance away, approx 10 mins walk.

Review 102:All good.

Review 103:Lovely rooms great value

Review 104:Very good value for money book room 1 at the rear away from any trafic noise. It's a very large room .

Review 105:No parking but that was only negative.

Review 106:Room was very big & bed very comfy. Excellent value for money.

Review 107:Lovely Inn, beautiful town.

Review 108:Lovely large bedroom and bathroom. Bed really comfortable.

Review 109:Awesome bedroom, large bath and separate shower!

Review 110:Room was lovely and clean so was really surprised to find there was a ring of scum around the bath!!!

Review 111:Lovely spacious room. Nice pub downstairs!

Review 112:no parking by the property

Review 113:large and comfortable room

Review 114:Check in only after 5.

Review 115:Excellent room and facilities. Good price. Check out up to 11:30.

Review 116:Lighting a little bright

Review 117:Spacious rooms great location good food

Review 118:Having to go home.

Review 119:Room excellent. So big. Large bath and walk in shower. Plus fridge with milk, cereal, tea, coffee. Etc.

Review 120:Nice room with a cute pub underneath.

Review 121:Great staff nice room complimentary breakie in room great pies

Review 122:Really good value for the money, fabulous room.

Review 123:Great atmosphere in the bar and great pie ... rooms were really big for the price paid.

Review 124:parking problem when wet, garden room noisey until 11pm

Review 125:room great,pies yummy,bed and facilities excellent

Review 126:The room was on the main lit road and the thin blinds let light into the room all night. The room needs block-out blinds. No parking for guests.

The Fine Print

The rooms are on the first floor above the bar and are accessed via stairs, staff may not be around in the morning to help with heavy luggage.
