Reviews for The Kings Arms Hotel
Review 1:Narrow stairway, quite hard work carrying cases/baggage - can't be helped really. Rooms quite close together so could hear other people in the other rooms. Didn't spoil the stay for us though.
Review 2:Not far at all to walk for shops and restaurants, free access to nightclub next door, very polite and helpful security let us back into the hotel later in the evening, had a brilliant night. Perfect cosy room, a little on the small side but didn't need a lot of room as we only stayed the night, with lovely decor. Was warned about the noise but slept extremely well (didn't want to get out of bed!) view of the square. Breakfast was nice - for what I managed to eat as I was quite hungover! Would Definately consider coming again in the future.
Review 3:There is nothing not to like!!!
Review 4:I loved everything about this place.the rooms are all lovely .we have stayed here before and will certainly be staying again, hopefully in the not so distant future.the breakfast is lovely too, always hot!!
Review 5:Being woken up at 11.30pm on 01.12.2015 by an alarm going off, but when I went out on the landing all I could hear was people talking & laughing. I didn't get back to sleep till after 3am. Soured what was a lovely break
Review 6:The Location
Review 7:The Staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel was very clean and inviting especially as Keswick was suffering with flooding and very heavy rain.
Review 8:Noisy nightclub out the back. They did provide us with earplugs in the bathroom pack and we slept soundly.
Review 9:Pub, restaurant and hotel in a great location in Keswick high street. View of Skiddaw out of our attic room window. Food was very good.
Review 10:The noise from people outside the nightclub next door was unbelievable until 4 in the morning. I certainly did not go to the lake district to listen to foul mouthed shouting outside my bedroom window until morning. If you want to go to a night club don't come to the lake distrct, leave it to those who enjoy the peace and tranquility of the place. How on earth do they get a license for a nightclub in the middle of Keswick ? I will not be staying there again.
Review 11:Location in the middle of the main square. Open fire in bar
Review 12:None
Review 13:Ideal location as eveything you need is within walking distance. The staff are polite and friendly and nothing was to much trouble.Great walks and scenery.
Review 14:Check in was very swift, staff very friendly and welcoming. Car park token was given to park free in large public car park at back of hotel. Room 4 is very spacious with king bed, small sofa and armchair, although room is quite dark and dated. Nice modern very clean bathroom. Towels and robes also provided. We also enjoyed a full English breakfast . Would definitely return
Review 15:Breakfast was just "OK" . Poor quality beans , horrid sausage . Room nice but small - Dusty in bathroom
Review 16:Location great Subsidised parking good Bathrobes a nice touch
Review 17:If I am being very picky the shower could have been more powerful but otherwise we enjoyed our stay as we always do.
Review 18:Restaurant revamp and new chef have made a huge difference. Would definitely recommend the restaurant now ( have tried it in the past but never more than once a stay)
Review 19:room was a joke -lets me call it a CUPBOARD unless you come back to me with a special offer MY WIFE AND I WILL NOT BE BACK your check in reception is like a PUB !!!!!
Review 20:we had stayed twice and price ok and staff were ok -foreign girl at breakfast EXCELLENT
Review 21:VERY small bedroom; more like a bed with four walls. Poor drainage when using the shower; had to keep turning off the shower to prevent the tray from overflowing.
Review 22:Good location. Very helpful staff.
Review 23:Absolutely nothing, everything was fab
Review 24:From the minute we arrived all the staff were lovely, room spotless and bed really comfy. Breakfast was huge!!! Second visit here and we will be back.
Review 25:The NOISE from the square below was dreadful. Not the nightclub, no, the erecting of the Saturday market stalls which began in the very early hours. NO sleep could be had. This does not mean we did not love the fact that this market town has a thriving market with quality stalls and local produce which was a delight to see. We just think that £138 was far too high a price to pay for this beautiful, spotless room in which no sleep could be had all night. Also, only 1 rasher of bacon on the breakfast plate, rather mean for the price we paid. Staff lovely.
Review 26:Loved the location and the room was spotless
Review 27:The room was very small but had everything we needed so it was fine. And it was a little noisy at times as there is a nightclub out back, but we were aware of that before we booked. Hotel supplied earplugs too.
Review 28:Lovely Hotel, breakfast was excellent. Staff were very friendly. Room was lovely.
Review 29:Staff not very informative, certain staff not approachable. Small room with 1 tiny window, even though we had booked a larger room. Room too hot and window overlooked nightclub which was open til 3am. Either hot room or no sleep!
Review 30:Great location, food was good. Handy parking, dog friendly.
Review 31:Room and bathroom so small, had a room backed onto pizza eaterie and nightclub kept awake until 230am so little sleep and had to leave without breakfast as not served until 8am .Thought room was overpriced.
Review 32:Room very clean central location .
Review 33:The staff were really friendly and the hotel is absolutely lovely. The central location was perfect for us. The breakfast was delicious and we couldn't have asked for more in terms of comfort, service and cleanliness, it was spot on. We stayed on a Thursday night and heard absolutely no noise from that mini nightclub out the back. I can't speak for Friday and Saturday nights but the entrance is quite a way from the hotel so I think previous noise whinge reviews have been a little harsh for a central market town location stay.
Review 34:The room was basic, small and even though we were told about the noise from the nightclub it was impossible to sleep. The fire alarm went off at 2:00 am we thought we had to evacuate then it stopped and no one bothered to tell us it was a false alarm. For £120 for one night it certainly wasn't good value for money
Review 35:Quaint pub atmosphere staff were friendly and dogs were welcome
Review 36:We went for an evening meal and were placed at a table right beside the booth the staff use at the entrance. Close proximity meant that it felt that they were overshadowing us. The waitress was young and inexperienced. Not very confident or perhaps suited to that kind of work. She banged down plates etc with a not ver gracious manner. Probably didn't mean to be as "rough," but in the end we asked to be moved to another more private table. Staff looked horrified, but did as we asked. Breakfast time another staff member, blonde haired older lady. Also bit abrupt. Efficient no doubt, but not entirely appropriate. Would perhaps use a room there but definitely wouldn't eat there.
Review 37:We've visited before and like the old pub/inn feel of the place. It's very central and good value for money. Good place to use as a base of operation whilst in Keswick. Room was excellent. Reception staff were also very good.
Review 38:Would of liked the breakfast to be served abit later maybe even until 10am
Review 39:Location was the main factor, couldn't be any closer to Main Street with shops pubs and restaurants, we had a front room which could be a little noisey, but this is stated before booking, only had breakfast one morning as its to early eating a full breakfast between 8-9:30am but that's just my option, staff where very friendly from breakfast staff to the young lad on the bar of a night, also the manager on checkout, would definitely recommend this hotel to our friends and family, thanks for a brilliant stay.
Review 40:Noisy at night. We were in the back of the hotel and noisy till early hours. My husband stayed before on a front facing room and no noise then
Review 41:Lovely size room and ensure. Good excellent
Review 42:Noise at night. Room and especially bathroom cramped and bed not particularly comfortable. Bed too soft and could do with better quality sheets.
Review 43:Good centre-of-town location. Reception staff helpful and friendly. Good with pets, but as a result a lot of the guests have a dog with them. Clean and reasonable, kind of what you would expect for a centre pub.
Review 44:The room was SOOO hot and the window wouldn't open any more - plus the bathroom window wouldn't open at all. Also, the pillows were far too big - not comfortable at all.
Review 45:The location, cleanliness and staff were great.
Review 46:Room too warm located with noise outside. Not happy that fire alarm went off at 2am no apology next day from staff. Unable to get free Wi-Fi on and BBC1 on TV.
Review 47:Evening meal, breakfast and service very good. Clean bedroom and bathroom good standard.
Review 48:Had cot for my baby girl last year free of charge; this charge I was told on check out that it would cost an extra £7.50 per day. This was unexpected but was waived by the staff. Thanks
Review 49:Stayed here before, great location central to everything. Like parking permit - saves you a fortune. Staff very smart and cheerful. Breakfast great
Review 50:Friendly staff, location, feel relaxed even with young children and car park pass is a big plus , tried another town centre b+b earlier in year and when mentioned parking was told to park residential streets which wasn't ideal
Review 51:Surprised at the number of dogs, which didn't make for a good smell on the wet days. but this is the same all over Keswick.
Review 52:everything else excellent.
Review 53:It's was quite noisy a night as there is a club round the corner. Other guests were inconsiderate coming in at night. Earplugs were provided if needed
Review 54:The hotel was very central for the shops, restaurants etc. the market stalls were right outside the hotel.
Review 55:Very noisy room fronting onto the High Street - party noise at night and then market set up early morning! Breakfast only served until 9.30am on the weekend - no time for morning run and shower without getting up really early!
Review 56:Location, friendly staff
Review 57:Only concern was with the stairs as we were on the second floor.
Review 58:Great room, very modern, clean with a lot of space.Parting was at the central car park just behind the Hotel which we got a pass from the Hotel so it was free for both the nights.
Review 59:The noise from the outside which did not finish until 1230 , then at 0700 the fans started for the kitchens. The shower was very small .
Review 60:The room was nice and bed good
Review 61:The noise. Stayed awake til 2.30am with the sound of drunkards at the taxi rank right outside. Woke up at 5am with the sound of the street sweepers.
Review 62:Quality bedding
Review 63:It stated in the advert that the hotel was only 10 miles from Scarfell pike, well it is, as the crow flies, its actually 34 miles by road! Not good after going up and down scarfell! We got locked out of the hotel as we were not give the code for the door it was by pure luck that another resident let us in. The noise from outside is high due to the hotel being next door to a night club. We were told of this and ear plugs were provided. The room was very warm and could do with air-conditioning. no point in opening the window because of noise.
Review 64:Comfortable, clean room, good breakfast and pleasant staff.
Review 65:The room was very small. The room was over a sports bar that banged on till 3am. The fire alarm went off at 5am. The fire procedures were shocking.
Review 66:The bathroom was lovely and new
Review 67:Lugging luggage up from car park - able to load outside hotel in the morning before pedestrian area operational.
Review 68:Room Friendly staff Location Good breakfast substantial evening meal
Review 69:I had seen some reviews which mentioned noise due to the local nightclub. This was not an issue for us during our stay (Fri-Tue). The only noise was during the day (~4pm) there was a football game on in a local pub which got quite noisy. Also there was a dog barking incessantly on two mornings (~9am), not sure whether this was coming from inside the hotel or not. Another thing to note is that last orders at the bar is at 12:00, and the front door of the hotel is locked at 12:30, access after this time is gained through the nightporter at the neighbouring skiddaw hotel or the manager at the loft nightclub again this wasn't a problem for us.
Review 70:Location was excellent, right in the centre of Keswick, very good location for local restaurants/pubs/shops and nice walks. Parking was ideal, a pay and display car park right at the back of the hotel, we were given a parking permit at a cost of £2 per day which was paid on checkout so there was no need to get up early each day and put money in the meter. The room was lovely and spacious with a very large bed, and nice bathroom with shower. The room was cleaned by housekeeping everyday, despite us sometmes not leaving the room till ~1pm. And a "do not disturb sign" on the door meant we were left in peace when wanted. All in all an execellent holiday. Can't wait to come back and stay again.
Review 71:Breakfast selection could be better. Fire alarm caused evacuation in the middle of the night. This also happened on the last occasion we stayed here in October.
Review 72:Good pub atmosphere, great location, very good bedroom, good beers.
Review 73:The fire alarm going off didn't bother me however, if there had been a fire there would have been a good chance of someone being killed. No one knew what they were doing! No fire marshall, no checking of names; not good enough.
Review 74:Facilities, cleanliness and food were very good although we had not had any warning about the stairs; very awkward for my wife who is disabled.
Review 75:Room was small but very comfortable. Comfortable bed, toiletries in the bathroom, bathrobes in the closets. Nice friendly feel to the place. Staff very helpful. Will definitely stay there again
Review 76:Thank you so much for the surprise box of chocolates waiting in our room for my husband, as I had mentioned I was booking the stay for a birthday treat. The ear plugs were useful too!
Review 77:room was warm so opened window but as on front st it was really noisy but once window was shut no noise. Overall really happy.
Review 78:Room was really nice and clean, very up todate. Great location.
Review 79:Only the very steep staircase.
Review 80:The hotel has been well refurbished and has a good ambience. The room was well furnished after an extra chair was provided. The main drawback for an elderly couple is the very steep stairs to some of the rooms, especially on the top floor. No lift. Parking in the main car park is covered by the hotel, but it is a long walk with bags, although help is available.
Review 81:Shower could be more powerful. Market setting up at 5am outside window. Didn't bother us as we were leaving then anyway.
Review 82:Good clean and comfortable room
Review 83:When entering dining area presentation of breakfast looked a little poor missing grapefruit segments ,full breakfast was a little greasy , so opted for boiled egg, maybe offering omelette s as another option
Review 84:The cleanliness of the whole hotel the comfort in front of the open fire in the bar
Review 85:Everything good!
Review 86:The room was so comfortable, even with my grandson's bed added. All the things to do and he kept asking if he could go back to the room to lie on the big bed and watch the TV!!! Breakfast was great as well - plenty of choice.
Review 87:Bookings.com messed our friends booking up and they had to share with others. Not good when theyd paid for a room
Review 88:Perfect position in keswick. We took adavantage of the free entry to the club behind and ate at the italian and drank in the spirts bar.rooms lovely and bed super comfy
Review 89:Noise from nearby nightsot, BUT earplugs were provided and warned re music . 12 midnight all quiet
Review 90:comfortable , very friendly staff from check i to check out. Nothing too much trouble.
Review 91:The room was very warm but radiators were helpfully adjustable The shower was hot enough but pretty weak
Review 92:Staff very friendly and helpful Good breakfast Nice bar area and decor Comfortable room with good bathroom and facilities Menu good Plenty of ale/wine/whiskey to choose from! Cosy bar with little nooks and crannies in which to sit Our dog was made to feel very welcome!
Review 93:The bathroom in our room wasn't heated and was quite cold but very clean and nice large shower.
Review 94:Very friendly people, nice bar and restaurant and the perfect location in the center of town.
Review 95:Narrow staircases and passageways, fire doors very stiff to open especially in narrow passage and with a suitcase and bag. bedrooms close to other buisinesses could hear conversations of party goers in pubs,DRINKS VERY PRICEY.
Review 96:Polite Helpfull staff, Meals good, clean & Tity across the scope of the hotel, nice atmosphere at the front part of hotel
Review 97:Breakfast was disappointing and I would expect better at a simple bed and breakfast. Many items were not immediately available on the buffet counter and although available when asked for, it gave the wrong message. Fruit - no fruit salad, not even tinned grapefruit and there was bad fruit in the fruit bowl. Ate in dining area one evening and again totally lacking in atmosphere and finishing touches. Good hotel let down by poor restaurant standards. False fire alarm in the middle of the night - little organisation and no apology.
Review 98:Good hotel with neat bedroom and en-suite. Good quality fittings used throughout. Nice cosy bar area downstairs with good selection of real ales.
Review 99:Noises from upstairs bathroom taps etc, noises from some sort of fan/generator possibly kitchens. Room 1.
Review 100:Food was great , great steak in resteraunt , good helpful staff cosy atmosphere.
Review 101:Fire alarm went off in the middle of the night! No organisation, no fire drill,no apologies and no explanation and being accused of smoking in our bedroom! We are none smokers!
Review 102:Friendly atmosphere! Warm, welcoming, clean and comfortable. Overall a pleasant stay!
Review 103:Poor breakfast. Not a very good portion breakfast and what was there was partly inedible. Mushrooms tasted strange and poached eggs tasted of nothing but vinegar.
Review 104:Great location if you don't mind a little noise from the bars. Very comfortable, friendly accommodating staff.
Review 105:Probably our own fault ... didn't have a room with a bath .. could have done with one after many miles of walking! Also could have done with a larger bed - which was rather hard!!
Review 106:Hotel very tastefully decorated plus individually served breakfast - so much better than buffet. Just loved the slow cooked pork ribs . fabulous!
Review 107:Unable to get any sleep until well after 3am due to noise from people sitting outside at the night club which is next door. It was like being in the middle of a football match even with all the windows shut. As they had to stay shut the room was very hot and stuffy. It was one of the worst nights we have ever had anywhere.
Review 108:Lovely modern, clean room and bathroom. Good shower, robes and plenty of tea and coffee provided.
Review 109:Only minor complaint is for breakfast to be served until later on the weekend. We headed out for a run around the beautiful Lake as it was such a lovely day but missed out on breakfast!!
Review 110:Great location, helpful, informative and friendly staff. Will definitely return!
Review 111:Room was way too warm. So we had the window open. People started erecting the market outside at 5am. Don't stay here if a good night's sleep is important
Review 112:The room was nice, clean with an excellent bathroom Breakfast was reasonably good
Review 113:The bedroom seemed to get very hot. But we had drunk and celebrated a little too much.
Review 114:The staff, the bed, where the kings arms hotel is situated in the main street. The bathroom was immaculate and modern. All in all a good place to stay.
Review 115:little noisy in room until closing time, then fine; didn't promote the pizzeria (part of hotel) sufficiently, as think we missed a trick not using it
Review 116:location; staff couldn't have been more helpful when arranging an early breakfast; food good;; comfortable;
Review 117:Shower was merely a trickle and a bit cramped. A bit dated and expected a bit more for the price.
Review 118:The location and dog friendly cosy pub feel to the place. Good breakfast and free parking .
Review 119:The hotel was very difficult to find by GPS, as it is located in the middle of the pedestrian mall.
Review 120:The room was spacious and spotless, with very nice bathroom facilties.
Review 121:Very warm room and only a small fan TV position not ideal
Review 122:High quality refurbishment Good shower Comfortable bed Excellent breakfast Invaluable parking permit
Review 123:The problem with such good location-in centre of town square means its is next to pubs/clubs etc . Very noisy , hard to sleep. Such a lovely room -but no sleep! Cooked breakfast could be better.
Review 124:Lovely room and toiletries!
Review 125:Location was perfect, room was was very clean and comfortable, restaurant had a great menu and food was great offering really good value for money and the breakfast was 2nd to none all in all a great stay at the kings arms.
Review 126:No real facilities other than basics in the room which you would expect. The leisure facilities were 3 or 4 miles away and although very nice you had to book in etc and the parking at that resort and the parking at Keswick with permits etc was a little bit arwkard and time consuming. Not the worst place to stay in but not value for the price they wanted for that sort of facility.
Review 127:Staff food and location very nice and the room was interestingly decorated and very clean. I ve seen budget hotels up to the same similar standard hoever with similar facilities for way less however.
Review 128:nothing.. just don't park under a tree (lots of birds)
Review 129:location could not be better. Rooms very modern Freshly cooked breakfast and free carpark
Review 130:We only had one problem, room was far to hot and couldn't open a window other than that hotel was spot on.
Review 131:Hotel great, staff great, food good.
Review 132:Room was hot
Review 133:Location
Review 134:Great location, lovely room, brilliant breakfast !
Review 135:Great location. Staff very helpful. Rooms of a high standard. Good sized bathroom.
Review 136:Bedroom was noisy at night, both frm the bar and street outside.
Review 137:Good room, welcoming helpful staff.
Review 138:that only booking .com have the top floor . weare getting on now and the stairs are too much ..
Review 139:loved the new decor .
Review 140:the price
The Fine Print
The Kings Arms is close to a nightclub that is open until 02:00, Thursday-Sunday during winter, and every night during summer (until 03:00 on Friday/Saturday). Some noise may be heard. The Kings Arms provides permits for the nearby car park that cost GBP 2 a day.
