Reviews for Lodore Falls Hotel

Review 1:The bar staff worked their socks off

Review 2:We were there during the floods the first night everywhere in hotel was restricted due to corporate parties the second night we couldnt use the facilities or couldnt get a hot meal but was still charged full price then our car was damaged in flood but if we wanted to stay rather than drive we would have had to pay £85 ,,disgusted

Review 3:the price of the evening meal was out of my buget, the breakfast made up for that

Review 4:the room was excellent to say it was a room allocated for pets. the hot tub outside is what made us book ans the suana. its lovely to have such a lovely hotel that has the facilities aswell. the seataing area with the fire is exactly whats needed after a cold wet walk

Review 5:When the lake burst its banks and we had to move our car promptly and parked at the side of the road, which was not the hotels fault, it was the weather!!

Review 6:Amazing beautiful hotel near the lake of Derwent, they had all the Xmas decorations up inside and out and looked lovely especially at night. Our room was clean, staff friendly, can't fault it!! The Lodore falls are located just a short walk at the back of the hotel, and of course stunning!!

Review 7:Dogs were allowed on the landing and to clean efficiently, the cleaning products were very strong and lingered. I have asthma and was very uncomfortable. There was no other room available.I got Reception up to smell the product which was almost as strong as fixative and as she could not smell it. I think she thought me a little strange. I slept all night with the window open.

Review 8:The view, the waiting staff in the restaurant.

Review 9:We found the whole hotel very very warm.We adjusted the thermosat in our room and opened the windows but it made no difference. Bar prices expensive!

Review 10:. Breakfast was good plenty ofchoice and cooked breakfasts were freshly cooked to order. I did think if finished early 9.45 on a Sunday morning !

Review 11:Unfortunately the reception staff at check in displayed a total lack of local knowledge. The breakfast was adequate but we've had better for less money elsewhere.

Review 12:The indoor pool and sauna are excellent - dressing gowns and slippers provided. The gardener was a very amicable fellow and my wife enjoyed several good conversations with him. Room cleaning staff are very friendly.

Review 13:Low pressure in shower , TV signal intermittent, no flat screen TV, expensive 3 course set meal in restaurant

Review 14:Great location and character of building. Breakfast staff very friendly.

Review 15:Dogs barking in rooms on an evening unattended for 3 hours, poor view from room, small room in comparison to other hotels we have stayed in.

Review 16:Friendly staff, lovely lounge, good food and location.

Review 17:Poor evening meal - bad chips with steak ( very basic really) and inedible peppercorn sauce which ruined steak. Hotel reduced meal cost by £10. Deputy Manager said they were 4* as if this was relevant to my experience. Offered another meal but this was unsuitable at 9.45 pm! They should have cancelled the entire meal cost as a minimum. Breakfast - delays; waited 15 mins for coffee and toast, after cooked breakfast served. Staff not allocated to specific tables, so random and too much movement all the time between tables. Spa ( my reason for booking) unavailable due to cleaning. Why, in customer booking time?

Review 18:Good baseline staff; good approach to guests with dogs and provision of dog beds and bowls in bedroom.

Review 19:Although the food was very good, we would have preferred a choice of 2 courses for the evening meal.

Review 20:Delightful weather meant we didn't need to use the car- we could catch the boat to explore the lake. All the staff, from waiters to cleaners were friendly, efficient and helpful.

Review 21:Did not have dinner. Too expensive. Room service menu was good but didn't want to stay in room to eat so went out.

Review 22:Excellent staff service throughout all departments.

Review 23:Size of pool was very disappointing and the changing rooms were tiny. Find the fact that it allows dogs to stay in the rooms very strange and made me concerned bout the hygeine in the rooms.

Review 24:Hotel is set in beautiful surroundings overlooking a lake so location and setting is perfect. The hotel has an indoor and outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna, and tennis courts so facilities are very good however the indoor pool is very small so was disappointing and also very surprising for such a big hotel. Breakfast was fantastic with an incredible selection to choose from and very good polite service fron the waiters.

Review 25:They asked us for a £50 deposit they said in case well break anything and yet until now a month passed and we didn't receive a refund. The staffs seems not so happy to see other nationality in the hotel. The place was homely but staffs makes it feel not at home.

Review 26:I love the room and the place. We a got it for a lower price and we have an amazing room with a view and balcony. Couldn't forget the experience.

Review 27:Front desk clerk was not aware the lake steamer was not stopping opposite the Mount Mary so we missed an afternoon cruise.

Review 28:They left a gift in the room for us on hearing it was a stay booked to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The lamb at dinner was very tasty, flaking away in pieces almost like fish!

Review 29:No view but we did get a very good last minute deal so no complaining!

Review 30:Very comfortable room. Public areas very attractive and welcoming. Good car parking. Great breakfast. Wonderful location for Borrowdale.

Review 31:the caring friendly staff along with the best view from our third floor room you could wish for. we enjoyed our meals and once again the view along derwent water to Keswick and the mountains just stunning.

Review 32:When we arrived the two couples in front of us, got complimentary tea and scones. We also had to put up front a £50 deposit. the other couples did not. When i asked why the different in standards for us, the man at the front desk stated because you booked through booking. com. Furious !!!

Review 33:The location was remote and very nice.

Review 34:It is is expensive for what it is but the setting makes it worth it

Review 35:The location and environment was simply spectacular. The hotel is comfortable and friendly. The food very good.

Review 36:Would be great to have a covered smoking area with seats somewhere in the grounds for those of us who smoke, particularly as it rains a lot in the region.

Review 37:Wonderful location close to Derwent Water Lake. Gardens were lovely to sit in and admire the surrounding view. Food was very good as was the service

Review 38:My first room I was checked into was dark and depressing with a view of some extractor fans and a roof. I'd booked a view room (which this apparently was) so asked to be moved to a higher floor which I was without any hassle and that room was much better so maybe specify this when booking.

Review 39:Location was perfect, room was big and the bed super comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and service was really quick at breakfast and the bar. I didn't eat dinner there but the breakfast was delicious and very generous portions.

Review 40:Not 4star service Furnishings were mixed. Nice upholstery ( although some dust round sides and back ) but cheap looking tables in public areas . Nicer tables would make a big difference .

Review 41:Great location

Review 42:Receptionist on arrival just gave us our key and did not explain anything about the facilities.another guest told us about the pool and sauna.but all in all great place.

Review 43:The facilities are great.most staff couldn't do enough for you.location is fantastic.

Review 44:Unable to use outdoor hot tub as it had to be booked which we hadn't realised but it didn't spoil our stay.

Review 45:Everything - beautiful surroundings, great service, polite staff. Attention to detail in all they did and good quality food.

Review 46:The room was very small and cramped. The price was high and the service was polite and well rehearsed but lacked real interest/substance - they mostly seemed to be trainees

Review 47:The view from the window was good

Review 48:I had booked a two room suite for the night, on arrival I was told that I had been given an upgrade into a better suite. When we went up to the room we realised that we had been put into the family suite, meaning that the other room had two single beds in and the seating area was in a space infront on the bed. Seeing as this wasn't what I wanted, I wanted the two rooms so that we could watch television seperately if we wanted to, I went down to reception and said that I wasn't too happy with the way it was set out and didn't feel like it was a better suite, as if I had wanted it to be set out like that then I would have booked it. The gentleman behind reception looked on the computer and told me that there was nothing he could do as all the other suites were booked up for that night. He went into the back to speak to someone else, as I said I just wanted the room I had looked at online and had chosen to stay in. He brought a lady out with him who said that she would see what she could do, and after looking on their computer she said if we wanted we could downgrade to a lake view room if we wanted and would we like to look at this. When we went up to look at the room, it was absolutely no different than the suite they had put it in, it had the same views and the bedroom itself was infact bigger, as well as being £100 cheaper! We decided to stay in this room instead, even though he money wasn't an issue it seemed ridiculous to pay for something that we didn't particularly like and we didn't want in the first place. Once we had got settled, my boyfriend went down and enquirer about afternoon tea. We were told that it had already finished and we had missed it.

Review 49:The views from our room were absolutely gorgeous, especially first thing in the morning with most covering the lake. Both the ladies on reception, Sally and Jade, were fantastic and really helpful

Review 50:Felt the room was slightly on the small side especially as it was a more expensive one overlooking the lake.

Review 51:Lovely setting. 5 Course evening taster meal was lovely & good value for money.

Review 52:The whole experience is much overpriced especially the restaurant. I travel staying in hotels at least twice a week so I have a good handle on value. Go into Keswick find a Pub is much better food and value.

Review 53:The location is very good making it a very good base.

Review 54:swimming pool smaller than anticipated, room a little dark (natural light).

Review 55:location of hotel, cleanliness amazing, very helpful friendly staff and outstanding menu and meals.

Review 56:Breakfast was disappointing. I had scrambled egg and it was watery tasteless as it was made from powder. Room next door had room service and the plates were left in the corridor all evening until the next morning. We had a late meal there which had to be eaten in the leisure club as they don't allow food in the bar. It was very overpriced and just about hot! Staff try to be helpful but the language barrier can make communication awkward. Room was comfortable but small with no view and I feel at 170 per night it was grossly overpriced. Nice location but wouldn't go back again. There was a nice looking b and b up the road which I would definitely consider!

Review 57:Room was comfortable and hotel is in a nice location.

Review 58:Nothing really, pity we couldn't get a bar snack in the main bar, after 1700, although you could get snacks in the sports area.

Review 59:The location was perfect for our short break. All the staff were very helpful, even down to a discount Derwentwater boat ticket, and a packed lunch for our walk around the lake.

Review 60:Very mediocre breakfast obviously geared to the large element of bus tripper. The sausage was the nearest to a chunk of breadcrumbs as ever experienced and the waffle was as sweet as to be a danger to health. The previous long history of a special place to stay has been seriously compromised. Hopelessly inadequate lift system to rooms

Review 61:Comfortable quiet room with its own good facilities. Not quite as described. The lake view was a strain on the neck

Review 62:My only complaint was the starter for lunch which was a game pie. It was awful and very hard.really inedible. For that reason we decided not to have dinner at the hotel.

Review 63:Pleasant staff, good facilities.

Review 64:We left the hotel tired. All evening we could hear someone else's TV which stopped us from sleeping when we wanted. Then next a.m. that TV was again on loudly from 06:30 until 08:00. Dreadful! Maybe better sound insulation needed?

Review 65:Not a lot. We returned to the hotel in which we'd spent the 1st night after our wedding 44yrs ago & it was nowhere as exclusive or "polished" as it was then. I was disappointed

Review 66:Where can I start? I've never made a review before, so hopefully by my taking the time to do this, you'll get a sense of how utterly ripped off we feel. Our room was dismal. Tiny and very, very hot. I asked the reception to move but as the hotel was full, they could only provide a fan. For £210 per night, the facilities were shocking. There was no fridge in the room, poor quality tisanes (instant nescafe) and toiletries. The bathroom was old and reminiscent of a Travellodge with the sliding door and old suite. I got in the car and asked around other hotels for vacancies. The bank holiday prevented us from securing anything. I know LD hotels are at a premium, especially on a bank holiday, so the cost could have been forgiven - had not been for the rancid food. I'm not expecting Michelin star, but I do expect fresh, so please don't feel I've misused the word rancid. At a friend's wedding on the second evening, my partner ate a potato that smelled exactly like a baby's nappy, causing him to vomit immediately. No staff were present to complain. The breakfast the following day, I sent back my plate as the sausage presented tasted exactly the same. I also vomited. No replacement was offered. Given half a chance I would go back in time, save myself about £70 and stay in a well rated B&B.

Review 67:The hotel has an amazing location right in the middle of Borrowdale and the grounds are lovely - very well looked after. The cleaning staff are prompt and friendly. The bed is comfortable. This is where the positives end.

Review 68:Very poor IT systems. Long waits at the bar for drinks Very poor WIFI. Very important when away from the office. Dinner menu not flexible. We had a mixed party with mixed appetites and a fixed menu does not suit us. Enough to stop us returning. Pool very cold!

Review 69:Great location, great staff, views and bedrooms very comfortable.

Review 70:The wireless was more off than on, the breakfast was ok, the waffles were the best

Review 71:The hotel was perfect for what I was expecting, view of the lake n mountains from our window, it was quiet all you could hear was the sheep

Review 72:The leisure facilities don't match the standards of the hotel rooms and service. The pool needs updating and is very small considering the size of the hotel.

Review 73:Squash court should be available as it says on booking.com Extremely hot room!! Bedrooms old, definately not decorated as the ones advertised on their website

Review 74:The car park is on the opposite side of the road and can be a little tight to get in and out off spaces but it is free and secure with CCTV so nothing to complain about!

Review 75:Impeccable service from the staff, nothing was too much trouble. Although the hotel was busy there were plenty of places to sit and relax.

Review 76:Rather stuffy single bedroom. In the absence of air conditioning a fan would have been good. The outlook from bedroom was poor at the back of the hotel

Review 77:Comfortable lounges - relaxing atmosphere. Helpful staff.excellent food.

Review 78:Only one bathroom in the suite, which has 2 bedrooms and 4 guests: unacceptable. Also poor website: room not properly described and would only allow the registering of up to 2 guests (for a 2-bedroom suite).

Review 79:The location; the breakfast; the ease of parking.

Review 80:Their attitude to "walk in" punters for afternoon tea was considerably less helpful/friendly. The pool and hot tub were also very disappointing.

Review 81:Breakfast was good, once clear to them that we were actually staying there, staff were helpful in that if there was a problem they were concerned to sort it out.

Review 82:Wifi was very intermittent . Staff tried very hard but often appeared to be working from a script.

Review 83:Lovely location with easy access to Keswick and North Lakes. Bus and Keswick Launch stopped very close to hotel. Pool and Gym were lovely.

Review 84:The wifi was not very good

Review 85:The room was excellent the bed was lovely and big and soft the staff in and round the hotel were very nice and helpful great nights sleep

Review 86:Balcony overlooking bus stop. Hot tub needs a privacy screen. Changing rooms too small. Restricted evening menu - having to choose 3 or 5 courses and no salads. Housekeeping fitful.

Review 87:Location, but not the roadside situation. Access to Derwentwater very convenient. Keswick only 10 mins away and excellent walks very nearby. Leisure facilities good if a little cramped for the size of the hotel.

Review 88:the tv noise from next door . on both nights . had to ask them to turn it down . perhaps a sign could be put on all tv to keep it down after say 11.pm .

Review 89:everything was i would have expected.

Review 90:I didn't like our room view too much, however we didn't stay in our room all day. The room was a little warm, room 127. Price was a little steep.

Review 91:Loved the location and being able to book hot tub and have it all to ourselves. Dining room staff was superb, go early to beat the crowd.

Review 92:I was there for a wedding, my room wasn't ready, which was fine with but was sent over to the Lesiure centre to change. It was a very small chamging room with about 6 other people in there getting changed from using the gym and pool. It had steep steeps to the changing area and with heels and a long dress on which got wet!!! with two bags is not really exceptable. Surely the Lordor Falls could of given me a room for 10 minutes to get changed in to.

Review 93:Lovely comfortable bed, the room was clean and nicely decorated.

Review 94:Misleading photo on website makes it look as if hotel is right on edge of lake which it is not. Bacon at breakfast very overcooked and mean portions. When requesting just egg and bacon, would normally expect 2 rashers at least. Standard of dinner acceptable but not impressive for a hotel in this price range

Review 95:Comfortable, high standard of décor, staff excellent

Review 96:Utterly wonderful hotel. The room and quality of decor and furnishing made our stay perfect. The hotels location and views are breathtaking. We had the English and continental breakfast, both wonderful. The staff were lovely, the facilities great. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will highly recommend this beautiful hotel to others.

Review 97:The room we were given should have been used as a store room as the window looked into an other room..... The staff at breakfast were just awful,,

Review 98:The guy at the pool... top marks

Review 99:1. This is a tourist destination hotel. Staff needs to be more helpful / hotel needs to have more information on local sightseeing/walking paths/timing of ferries, boat hire details etc 2. Great views from the room balcony but full of pigeon droppings

Review 100:Great location, pet friendly

Review 101:Restaurant - weren't told when table ready. Took 45 mins to let us know that the wine we ordered was out of stock, starter still part frozen, chicken with red blood near bone. Over priced. £3.50 extra for salmon/scrambled egg for breakfast seemed excessive on top of price of accommodation.

Review 102:A very pleasant stay and I like the pre-arrival emails informing us about the meals at discounted rate and welcoming us before we arrived. The surrounding areas of the hotel are very refreshing. The location is good - accessible by bus or boat to Keswick town.

Review 103:Very annoying that bar meals stopped at five and room service meals couldn't be eaten in bar area. Seemed unreasonable.

Review 104:Leisure centre staff really excellent.

Review 105:Hotel was clean and tidy but £208 a night for a double room, extortionate Breakfast was below average and at £17 was very overpriced Did not have to vacate room till 11 but the maid was knocking on the door at 10 to clean, very inconsiderate for the high cost of the room

Review 106:Clean

Review 107:Wedding parties tended to take over the lounge bar prior to dinner even though they had a separate facility. Late night corridor noise.

Review 108:Helpfulness of the staff, quality of the food.

Review 109:Check in was at 3pm and our rooms were still not ready at this time. I didn't like that dogs could stay at this hotel.

Review 110:It was very clean and the beds were really comfortable. The gardens were beautiful.

Review 111:We stopped Friday and Saturday night, the hotel had weddings both nights, which took over the place and the wedding revellers woke us up at 2.40 Sunday morning!

Review 112:Couldn't believe it when we opened our room to find dog beds and bowls for our two doggies

Review 113:The lady in charge of the breakfast was very sharp and miserable, almost had an argument with her over where we had to sit, not a very nice woman at all !

Review 114:Just the location, the layout and the comfort of it all.

Review 115:The spa facilities were terrible. The pool is the smallest I've ever been in. Small sauna, no steam room, you have to book the jacuzzi, the changing room was so small, you had to go up a set of stairs to get to the ladies changing room, any more that 2/3 people and it's impossible to move, never mind get dry and changed. I would not recommend this hotel if you like to relax in the pool. The place was overpriced in my opinion, I definitely would not go back as I've had much more value for money elsewhere. The staff need to cheer up a bit to. The guys in the room next to us were singing after midnight, there is no sound proofing and you can actually here people when they are just talking normally.

Review 116:Lovely fires going in the foyer, we had a great weekend in the lakes.

Review 117:Trivially, 4x4s partially obscuring the view from the bar when they should have been in the car park. Slight trepidation crossing the road to the car park even with a 20 mph speed limit - perhaps mirrors to see around the bends could help. The carpet in the dining hall, although obviously good quality, was somewhat dated in style - but that's a matter of taste!

Review 118:The smile on my partner's face every morning as she looked out of our window to see lambs gambolling to a backdrop of verdant mountains and the gentle rippling of Derwent Water. The staff were happy to go the extra distance for us on many occasions making our stay completely carefree. Large mirrors strategically placed in public areas maximised views of surrounding countryside.

Review 119:Slightly irritating that the disabled car parking in front of the hotel seemed to be used by obviously able people .

Review 120:The comfort of your hotel, the excellent food and the easy travel to Keswick and surrounding area by public transport is excellent.

Review 121:Our only gripe (and I do mean Only!) was the poor wifi. It is accessible all around the hotel but the woefully high contention ratio made it unusable for the vast majority of the time. Effectively too many users trying to use too little bandwidth.

Review 122:The staff made our stay exceptional, they couldn't have done more for us

Review 123:hard bed,no a la carte menu only tdh menu,so you can't just have a main course.

Review 124:great breakfast,,loved the haddock.staff very helpful and plenty of them(makes a change)nice lounge area.£7.00 taxi to keswick.

Review 125:The pool area is old and does not seem very clean. The hot tub needs to be booked in advance which made It impossible for us to use during the busy Easter weekend. The overall cost of our room (£210 per night) seemed expensive in comparison with what you get...

Review 126:Splendid view of you get a chance to sit by the windows. Staff is friendly and very busy (they must be working very long hours)

Review 127:The spa was understaffed. It was difficult to get hold of someone by phone to book a treatment in advance, then we had to miss a hot tub session we'd booked becuase the attendant was "on a break" and didn't realise we'd turned up on time and were in the pool. The lift is small but the lovely wide staircase much better for our health & fitness!

Review 128:The room was comfortable, well serviced, excellent views. The hotel was excellently located for our walking holiday. The breakfasts were very good and the service excellent, and the one evening meal we had in the hotel was top quality (but you pay well for it!). The courtesy champagne served in the hot tub to mark our engagement was very welcome too!

Review 129:It was a bit far out so we spent a lot in taxis, so be prepared to pay for fairs if you want to explore. And take black trousers, we were not informed about it and couldn't eat in the restaurant.

Review 130:Was lovely. Food amazing, room and view fabulous. Would defiantly go again.

Review 131:Staff gave me incorrect information on the eating facilities in the hotel. I ended up going into Keswick to eat, but I need not have , had I been given the correct information. Single room was so small and dull.

Review 132:Location was good The lounge / bar area was nice

Review 133:The only thing that i did not like was the soft bed but that is only my perference to have a hard bed to sleep on.

Review 134:Very easy going atmosphere and very warm welcome from our reception to are departure. Room was clean and well presented and facilitates were well stocked with a good variety to choice from. Breakfast was easy going and you made to feel at home by the staff. Receiption has a good knowledge of the local area and were willing to provide us with some welcome information.

Review 135:Paid quite a lot for a lake view room. Although the view was amazing the room wasn't that spacious and would benefit from a bit of modernisation

Review 136:Views from the rooms are amazing, we slept with curtains open so could wake to watching the sunrise above the lake

Review 137:Breakfast cold, badly presented, table to small, waiting staff indifferent Over priced In need of repair and decoration Noisy - dog barking, people partying Uncomfortable bedding

Review 138:Location Log fires

Review 139:Drinks were expensive.

Review 140:Service was very good especially at meal times. The meals themselves were of a good standard. The room was fantastic and the location just as good.

Review 141:I felt it was over priced for what it was and I've stayed in many 5* hotels around the world! This is not 5*. Fire alarm went off 3 times on one night, probably a one-off but spoiled our first night, nothing in the way of compensation was offered, not even a free breakfast! The second night was disturbed by a couple having a very loud argument on our landing and children in the room above amusing themselves by jumping on and off the bed. Overall quite a noisy hotel. We ate out at Luca's in Keswick on the second night, fantastic restaurant, however I had to drive as no taxis were available for at least an hour in advance, very poor. To summarise I would say I don't feel we had value for money.

Review 142:A nice hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Fairly spacious room with a beautiful view of the lake. Handy for Keswick. Excellent rural location.

Review 143:What,s not to like???

Review 144:Wonderful staff from the smiling chamber maids to the brilliant Dining room management,Front of house ,Bar and Leisure Staff. Nothing was too much trouble and the friendliness like being at home. Food served was hot and Fine Dining. All the guests,Mums Dads Kids Granniies,Dogs all seemed to be on best behaviour as if they knew it was Special!
