Reviews for The Red Lion
Review 1:Nothing
Review 2:Excellent location in the centre of Doncaster, hotel is part of the Wetherspoons chain very tastefully renovated, room excellent staff very friendly.
Review 3:Downstairs is a typical Wetherspoons pub; cheap atmosphere, cheap furniture, cheap beer, cheap food. Just not a place to feel in any way special.
Review 4:Staff are friendly and helpful, the location is great and the rooms freshly renovated with good beds, nice linen and proper feather pillows and duvets
Review 5:Nothing not to like.
Review 6:Everything could not believe i got the same room it was fantastic. I wish Preston could have a splendid Witherspoons like the one in Doncaster!! Great value for money rooms very tastefully decorated, food and drinks exceptional prices in this social climate.
Review 7:Had a dsy at the races and stayed over in the town .I travel alot with work and found the room one of the best i have stayed in. Had all the goodies but was so impressed how quiet the room was to say the below bar was full of xmas shoppers taking cheer. Well done Red Lion will see you next December with friends this time. Merry xmas
Review 8:Although central Doncaster parking was a nightmare and access poor.
Review 9:The room and bathroom was clean and tidy but a bit on the small side. The food was good quick service and hot. Prices very reasonable.
Review 10:Room was gorgeous very clean and comfortable and modern. Price amazing value for money breakfast although not included was really reasonable and very good.
Review 11:Just beware if you have difficulty with stairs. Our room was up several flights and there is no lift. Could be a problem for some people.
Review 12:Great location. Staff very friendly . Our room was very nice. Place has been recently refurbished and done very well.
Review 13:no parking, and a fair wait for manager to book us in, but once she arrived very nice. Just shame seeing staff wandering around when we were looking for assistance.
Review 14:good location, modern rooms, clean, lovely shower. Rooms snug but perfectly adequate.
Review 15:Very cold as the heating only works when you use your room card. No lift to the room and up a few sets of stairs.
Review 16:Very well appointed room & fabulous walk in shower and quality bathroom fittings. Friendly and helpful staff
Review 17:Very difficult to find, street parking was a pain and as it primarily a pub the bar staff weren't great although the "manager" tried his best.
Review 18:Room was lovely, comfortable & clean
Review 19:Going to bar to check in - was very busy. Staff fantastic though.
Review 20:Location great, walking distance to train station and shopping centre. Newly refurbished rooms
Review 21:one of the rooms had a drain problem but the team moved me quite quickly
Review 22:The hotel staff are really friendly and helpful and the food is really nice if you are just looking for an evening meal whilst staying away from home.
Review 23:the check in was terrible there is no check in desk so had to check in at the bar of a busy town center pub on a sat night i couldn't hear a thing and had to ask for bar staff to come away from the bar to check in
Review 24:the room was very nice and clean
Review 25:one member of bar staff let the rating down only due to acting unprofessional. didn't seem too happy dealing with customers.
Review 26:Very friendly staff and customers, superb location, good value for money and all round great hotel
Review 27:staff could of explained that the room temp needed to be set by us and could of done with more towels. As well as better accessories such as toothpaste and shampoo.
Review 28:Good location, friendly staff nice room and very clean.
Review 29:The staff were so friendly and helpful, our room was really good and the bathroom was great with as much hot water as required. Then the smaller things like a great iron, hairdryer, the lovely mugs on the tea tray with good quality biscuits. All added up to a really good overnight stay. To cap it off the breakfast was of great quality for a bargin price.
Review 30:Stairs are hard work ( ! ) but explained to us that they had tried to get lifts put in and not granted planning due to historic nature of the building. We had booked a different room but that had apparently suffered a flood. Room we were allocated was wrongly set up as a twin. Manager said we could have complimentary drinks while it was changed to a double, then offered complimentary breakfasts on top as he felt that drinks were not sufficient for the inconveneince. However, came back a minute later & said we could have the breakfasts but would have to pay for the drinks. Slightly bizarre because we had arrived late and didn't really want the drinks as we were tired, but accepted them as we had to wait quite a while in the bar. So felt they should have honoured the original offer(s) as given the choice we would have just taken the breakfast next morning (which was good by the way).
Review 31:Friendly staff, excellent value for money, room was very clean, comfortable and quiet; pub facilities downstairs are very good. Locals we spoke to in the pub were friendly.
Review 32:If you have a room that is in the street side can be noisy at night
Review 33:Great location, brand new hotel, really comfy bed, friendly and helpful staff, a great place to stay in Doncaster
Review 34:We booked 2 rooms and had a problem with one of them so the staff couldn't have been more helpful sorting things out for us. Plus they gave us a discount on our meal for the inconvenience. I have stayed here most weeks since July and couldn't speak highly enough of the staff.
Review 35:Lack of reception presence in hotel. The taxi firm recommended was very late picking us up and we were late for our event. When I contacted the duty manager, he just said 'we don't have anything to do with that'. A little help with luggage would also be helpful, my husband isn't young and we struggled with the double door situation.
Review 36:The room decor was lovely. Nice bed linen, great shower and bathroom. Colour palette.
Review 37:Parking restrictions,
Review 38:Impressed with hotel room provided, immaculate, clean and quiet, friendly staff and exceptional customer care , value for money, food prepared and presented to a high standard
Review 39:Parking very poor none onsite,no reception had to get to bar to check in which was very busy,
Review 40:Rooms were very clean, very reasonable cost per night, good food and choice.
Review 41:No parking, plus staff initially too busy to help when asked for best parking venues within area
Review 42:Great location for the centre of Doncaster with great access to shops and only short walk to train station
Review 43:A walk from overnight parking. No help on website or in hotel to parking facilities. Found a hair in my food but got no apologies or asked if food was ok.
Review 44:Close to shops. Clean.
Review 45:Exelent value for money, clean, comfortable, great cheap restaurant and bar (weatherspoons), and friendly staff! Couldn't ask for any more than that!!
Review 46:No reception, you have to check in at pub. Noisy staff room next to room 105. Woken up at 5.30 in morning ,other than that good hotel
Review 47:Nice clean new hotel
Review 48:Nothing.
Review 49:Fantastic staff. I left my ipad behind - it had fallen under the bed - and when I went back the cleaner had put it to one side for me. The accommodation is very modern and stylish at an unbelievable price.
Review 50:Loved staying at this hotel, but you really do need a reception rather than Queing ages to actually get yr key, this hotel I would rate 10/10. Excellent
Review 51:-Wifi didn't work. -I needed update the door card on second day. -Limited parking possibilities.
Review 52:Modern rooms, good value for money. Staff was better than during my last stay. Good price breakfast.
Review 53:The room I booked wasn't available. The absence of a professional reception is a terrible weaknesses. The systems just aren't there (eg the staff couldn't print an invoice).
Review 54:Comfortable room and bed. Very quiet. Staff nice enough.
Review 55:I'm not sure if there is a lift but the room I stayed in is not easily accessible and elderly people as well as disabled people would struggle.
Review 56:Very impressed with the quality and comfort of the room. The room was big, quiet, well equipped and very clean. Everything you need including ironing facilities as well as tea and coffee bar are in the room.
Review 57:Cannot fault this place only downside is no parking at the hotel but there are cheap overnight car parks in easy walking distance these should be advertised at the hotel
Review 58:Excellent location top class accommodation excellent food at a great price impressive venue
Review 59:3rd time here and always top service. Amanda had issues with fire alarm but she handled it well. Top marks again wetherspoons on a very well run establishment.clean, great syle, comfy beds, location 10/10
Review 60:Very comfortable room; bed superb. Excellent renovation/upgrading of a historic coaching inn. Everything brand new this year. Decent food available from early till late.
Review 61:Every thing was more than expected !t
Review 62:The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was to much trouble . I found the breakfast great value for money , and the drinks in the bar were very reasonable , overall excellent , well done to all concerned ! Will be back , David ( Carlisle )
Review 63:Butter was missing for the toast with breakfast, waitress said she would bring some, ten mins later had to hunt it down myself, but no big deal the rest of the staff were fantastic
Review 64:Room was small but spotless, bed comfortable, staff welcoming, substantial value for money breakfast, movable reading light, free wi fi, phone charger socket
Review 65:The bacon on the breakfast was cold as in not even warm! I sent it back & the replacement was worse! Luke warm bacon & an over cooked rubbery egg, so uninviting to look at never mind eat!
Review 66:The staff were all polite & hardworking. The pillows were heaven to sleep on.
Review 67:It's a great hotel with excellent decor and facilities and the best bit is it's located above a very large and clean Weatherdpoons pub. Which has great choices, with great staff at amazing prices. See you next week!
Review 68:Maybe the parking was a little tricky as we had to put money in the meter at 8am when the rates kicked in.
Review 69:We loved the 'all new re-vamped interior'. Quite urban mixed with old. Kept the old brick walls & mixed them walk in modern shower wet rooms etc. Brilliant.
Review 70:On arrival female employee was very short with us when we asked about early check in and didn't seem interested in helping much.
Review 71:Rooms very spacious and bed comfy. When we checked in later bags were already in room and member of staff was helpful in showing us the room.
Review 72:Having to climb 3 flights of stairs to the room. not having a side jet or hand held shower in case you did not want to wash your hair every day. top drenchers are great but not for that reason
Review 73:the comfy bed, duvet and pillows. lovely big walk in shower. big television. nice big mugs and good quality biscuits
Review 74:Great value rooms over a great pub. This place is new and rooms are as good as some in some brand name hotels. Small hotel only about 18 rooms. Great location by the market in Doncaster.
Review 75:Awkward stairs for carrying heavy bags and no on site parking
Review 76:Friendly and polite staff. Comfortable and well thought out rooms including good bathroom with shelves in the right place for a change.
Review 77:Difficulty in finding the hotel. One say Mac refused to give a route. The other kept telling us to park the car and walk bin the end one of the staff came and found us andce in the car to direct us.
Review 78:Helpfulness of staff Comfort and quietness of room
Review 79:Got woke up by dray wagon delivering at 6 in morning went on for half an hour then 7.30 fridge wagon pulled up outside of bedroom window should deliver in daytime not very happy .no car parking .
Review 80:Nice & clean rooms spotless friendly staff
Review 81:The area where hotel is is not the nicest. Service can be quite slow in pub below hotel and some of the language by occupants in the pub can be a bit offensive, not ideal for a family.
Review 82:The room was great, clean and very tidy, perfect for my trip.
Review 83:Had a bad fall in bedroom went into room their was a step the signwarning you of the step was very poor and potion ed in wrong place wentflying hit the bed ended up on floor have hurt all my ribs etc verylucky don't break anything as I have brittle bones I have filled outaccident forM have also been to my own gp so as you can see itwasn't a good stay having said this it seemed a good place could dowith a proper reception as had to wait for bar staff to book us in laterwhen I filled the accident for out the staff member said that had shehad been on duty she would have shown us to the room and warned us ofthe step to late the horse had already had bolted
Review 84:No parking available and you run the gauntlet with local parking as local constabulary dish out 50 Euro parking tickets toot suite first thing in the morning.
Review 85:We stayed for a night on our way from London to Scotland. Lovely refurbished pub hotel. Gorgeous new bathroom and the bed and pillows were to just beautifully comfortable. Great having the pub with drinks and meals available just downstairs.
Review 86:No parking, the breakfast wasn't explained to me so I assumed it was normal business hours so when I left in the morning I did not know there was breakfast before 8am. Also, I hate the shower heads they use.
Review 87:Lovely and clean, not noisy. Comfortable. Good TV, great bathroom. I healthy stock of biscuits and tea!
Review 88:The stair climb up to our room.
Review 89:How new/modern and clean the hotel was and brill room facilities, well planned out. The beds are really comfy too!!
Review 90:nothing everything very good
Review 91:Great location friendly staff excellent value for money and a special thank you to Cath the duty manager who dealt with our problem with the toilet so quick and very professionally
Review 92:Nothing to complain about
Review 93:Staff were friendly nothing was too much for them to do made us feel very comfortable, room was clean and modern we would definitely stay again
Review 94:Office next to my room 105 was noisy all night and kept me awake. The staff should know better than to talk loudly outside guest rooms in the middle of the night.
Review 95:Noise early in morning from delivery trucks woke us all up approx. 06:30 both mornings we were there
Review 96:Friendly staff and lovely breakfasts! My son loved the hash browns!
Review 97:It was a very busy pub and you had to wait some time to get served even though there was plenty of staff on we thought a queuing system would of been fair
Review 98:Rooms new refurb well equipped iron and board hair drier coffe tea snacks and bottled water bed linen towels A*
Review 99:Room was very nicely decorated having recently been refurbished, the only problem we found was noisy generator or fan which we could hear from our room window. Food was fairly poor, standard wetherspoons pub. Banging doors in morning left a lot to be desired.
Review 100:Room very nice, shower nicely tiled
Review 101:I checked in and was shown to my room but couldn't get in - had to go down 4 flights of stairs to get my card redone. Also I asked for a room overlooking the front - Mine was at the rear.
Review 102:Great location & room was spotless !
Review 103:The hotel has no reception. If you had a question about your room etc. You were made to feel like you were interrupting the bar staff. Asked if they had a laundry service or where I might go to have my clothes cleaned. After waiting for 15 minutes while someone went to find the so called hotel manager. I was informed they did not have such a service and did not know where I might find one. Next day I accidently found a dry cleaning/laundry service around the corner no more then 100 meters from hotel. Too late for me but I took some business cards from the laundry service to give to the hotel manager for future guests. I was told at the bar it was the managers day off. I would have to "come back tomorrow if it was hotel business".
Review 104:The room was great as well as the restaurant, and good value. The entire building was refubrished. It had reopened in May 2015. If they get their staff up to speed it would be perfect.
Review 105:We really enjoyed our stay , the staff were excellent along with the facilities and food , would have no hesitation in recommending the red lion to anyone. Barry Smith.
Review 106:hotel is located in a pub but don't let that fool you about the quality of the accommodation and to my pleasant surprise it was relatively quiet (even on a Friday night). Spacious room, comfortable bed, air conditioning, nice bathroom, free wifi and nice staff. The staff were also th pub staff but very nice and friendly. I would stay in this hotel again.
Review 107:No bad comments
Review 108:Wetherspoons have invested heavy and have great hardworking staff. Room 10/10 great security. Second time here on business and can't fault it. Even cleaners do great work. Keep it up. Thank you.
Review 109:No parking on site, and wifi login very frustrating.
Review 110:Not long been done up therefore it was lovely to stay there, hope they keep it nice but feel that standards are slipping already.
Review 111:I arrived to pay my room and get a receipt for my expenses report, as there is no separate recepition I had to wait at the bar. I managed to get someone's attention and they said they would be with me in a minute I watched as they served people who arrived after me at the bar. I was able to pay for my room after waiting 15 minutes. When I got to the hotel later on I checked in and I asked if there was any water in the room I asked for still water when I arrived at my room there was only sparkling water, I asked could I change this and I ended up paying £1.49 for a small bottle of water. I had a few drinks with some co-workers, there was no staff available to take any drinks to the table and I was expected to take a tray myself. I was extremely disappointed with the service I received I expected a lot more. The worst part of all was the next day I was on the bed after a shower relaxing before the 11 o'clock check out and the door opened at 10:30 I said hello and a girl entered the room saying hi, I proceeded to ask is check out not until 11 she said yeah but someone said you had checked out. I said well I haven't she said sorry and exited. She didn't follow what I thought to be hotel etiquette by knocking before entering a guest bedroom. All in all a bad experience.. Such a shame as this could be a fantastic hotel
Review 112:Refurbishment inside is beautiful, everywhere inside looks the part
Review 113:The service times were shocking considering it wasn't very busy. It took 35 mins to be able to check in then waited a further 10 mins to be given the room key. Then waiting for a drink was another five or ten mins due to there.only being 2 staff on. Bearing in mind.it's a Wednesday evening so not very busy at all.
Review 114:The room and the bar was lovely.
Review 115:The room was lovely, everything you need in a hotel. Very central and bonus of a Wetherspoons downstairs .
Review 116:The staff are always really friendly and one of the managers Catherine can't do enough to make your stay enjoyable
Review 117:Convenient location. Very clean and comfortable. Pleasant staff. I arrived very late at night and was checked in quickly.
Review 118:Very clean and tidy, beds very comfortable. Shower and bathroom spotless. Food was great and the choice excellent.
Review 119:Could be on the noisy side ,but we were there on a very busy day
Review 120:It was new fresh and clean and the bottled water a nice touch
Review 121:Travelled by car not ideal parking to property
Review 122:Not enough bar staff for the busy Saturday evening.
Review 123:Location, cleanliness and value for money
Review 124:Great location and lovely refurbished rooms. The staff were very helpful
Review 125:Good location , good staff , nice food ,
Review 126:Nice friendly staff
