Reviews for Keswick Country House Hotel

Review 1:Cold room,,, yes its zero outside and staff decided to turn the room radiator off, awful old dilapidated mattress to sleep on. Had to use spare blanket to keep warm.

Review 2:Bedroom was a bit cool . Website stated meals served until 8.15pm but last sitting was 7.30pm . Food arrived a little too quickly .

Review 3:Could walk into Keswick easily . Staff were very helpful and view from bedroom impressive . Food was good quality and lots of variety

Review 4:Lovely hotel very helpful friendly staff. Easy included parking yet short stroll from parks and town centre. Food was excellent especially the dinners. Tasty and beautifully presented. Menu changed daily and gave lots of choice. We had added bonus of the Christmas decorations which were sparklingly festive. The bedroom -room304-views were magnificent over Keswick and the mountains -a Lovely warm bedroom and spacious ultra clean bathroom

Review 5:Would not have wanted a ground floor room in the station as bedroom windows faced the common areas.

Review 6:Great old world hotel. Perfect location - stones throw from town. Yes, easy walk. Stayed in a station room on first floor. Great size, modern bathroom, comfortable bed, very quiet.

Review 7:Own given 2 small bottle of water for hole of stay were told could have no more unless we paid for it. His should have been in with the room for the nights we stopped there.

Review 8:Because it was never 2 town centre.

Review 9:With the opportunity to walk around the area (and inevitably get very wet) I was disappointed there was no drying rom to put wet clothing

Review 10:Very friendly staff - excellent food

Review 11:I need to contact booking.com as they have charged me 100.00 more than the 2 couples who we went with. - we have not been treated fairly and I need an answer rather than court action

Review 12:Room and food

Review 13:We found nothing to dislike with either Staff or Hotel. All was just great for us.

Review 14:Great hotel and Staff and just a short stroll to Keswick town centre. We will definately use this hotel again without any hesitation.

Review 15:Nothing.

Review 16:Comfortable rooms, lovely location, rabbits on the lawn, friendly staff and a free upgrade with a bottle of prosecco on arrival for our honeymoon stay.

Review 17:No nothing

Review 18:Very friendly staff we got a upgrade king size very happy but they didn't give us the water and chocs that went with it ha, not to bother loved the hotel and location food excellent restaurant staff work really hard.

Review 19:The evening meal was excellent with plenty of choice. It was a treat to get dressed up. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the restaurant had a lovely feel about it. The staff were very friendly & professional. We stayed in one of the station rooms which were superb.

Review 20:Our room was spacious and quiet. The Breakfasts and evening meals were excellent the morning paper came on time each day.All in all a most enjoyable stay.

Review 21:Staff brilliant breakfast is fab so much selection evening meal brill and only about an 8mins stroll to the town for local real ales and good pubs and local market Saturday's

Review 22:Not really a hotel for children as nothing to occupy them on an evening e.g. no games room.

Review 23:Junior suite was fantastic with great views of Cat bells. Room was very quiet.

Review 24:Lack of paper tissues in the bedroom or bathroom gave the impression that the hotel was not of top quality whereas the provision of large size bath towels did.

Review 25:Standard of food very good. Large lounge very comfortable and welcoming

Review 26:A very good location within easy walking distance of the town centre. Nice view of the Lakeland fells from our room. Nice ambience in the restaurant and the food was very good.

Review 27:The shower in our bathroom was not very good and the bathroom itself was very small.

Review 28:Good food. Location i.e. Nearby surroundings and position in relation to town centre.

Review 29:Shop Bought Mint Sauce and Jug of Water on table tasted of Chlorine. why not invest a few quid on a filter, it would make all the differance!

Review 30:Room 200 lovely room The Breakfast was an excellent hot buffet.

Review 31:Although we are in our late 40's the hotel seemed to have a high volume of older people therefore bar very quiet

Review 32:The staff were very friendly, the hotel is in beautiful surroundings and rooms very spacious with all home comforts and walking distance from the town

Review 33:Never had a bad experience when staying here.

Review 34:As always, staff are proffesional, courteous and welcoming. Whatever we requested was delivered promptly. I was taking part in a cycle event that started early on 04.10.15. The staff arranged an early breakfast to be delivered to our room. Please pass on my thanks.

Review 35:Nothing for us to dislike.

Review 36:Good location for Keswick town, easy stroll .Great food @ staff I can highly recommend this hotel. We had a garden view room which we would choose next time we visit.

Review 37:The staff very business like and on the ball all of them knew what they were doing and asked if there was more we needed, the dinning room was bright and food excellent. restfull.

Review 38:No tissues in room, or shower cap in bathroom

Review 39:Convenient location for walking into Keswick. Reasonable food, though would have liked better quality fruit juice and cold meat and cheese for breakfast. Good to have wifi.

Review 40:The room was expensive for what we got. The room decor was pretty poor as was the bed.

Review 41:The food was excellent, as were all the staff. The morning view from the room made up for the room decor.

Review 42:Bath was quite high for climbing in and having to book a table for dinner at the beginning of our break

Review 43:Very clean room, pleasant helpful.staff and good location

Review 44:Sadly the room was a low standard when we had booked a superior room.It had the appearance of a standard room, only one small window in room, no window in bathroom so stuffy. Under the bed was grubby appeared not to have been cleaned. The shower did not work correctly it kept going hot or going off. Marks on wall and skirting boards. Bed not comfortable squeaky , no bottled water left in room on second night it was not worth £153 per night. Complained on leaving as we had paid on arrival generally we always pay on leaving. We will not use this hotel again

Review 45:The grounds were beautiful. The breakfast room delightful views across the gardens. Breakfast there was a good choice and well presented.

Review 46:I was last here ten years ago and I could appreciate the history of the building then, albeit there was an air of 'faded glory'. Now it just looks shabby, crying out for redecorating and overall sprucing up. At nearly £400 for 2 night's bed and breakfast I think this is very poor value for money

Review 47:Location - very easy to walk into town centre without being on top of everything

Review 48:The rooms windows didn't open apart from one so it was stuffy at times and the lock on the bathroom didn't work.

Review 49:The staff were very helpful, friendly and always had a smile! The bed was comfortable and had a great night sleep. Breakfast was amazing!

Review 50:Traditional country house hotel with period features. A hint of modern in bedrooms. Beautiful grounds to stroll in or have a game of croquet. Definately stay again...

Review 51:Mum (you didn't put an option for mother and daughter travelling together) is a little weak on her legs and would have loved a grab rail to use the shower in the bath and rubber mat as standard. Also more hand rails on both sides of the stairs.

Review 52:The friendliness of the staff and really comfortable bed to sleep in

Review 53:I'm disabled and use a wheelchair and I have mobility problems.I struggled to get up the steps into the hotel (no ramp). The bedroom itself was very nice and I managed to get around but the bathroom could have had more handrails and the toilet was very low .Other people with problems like myself will surely struggle as I did

Review 54:A verynice ,friendly and clean hotel. The meals were excellent vv

Review 55:The hotel is tired looking and could do with an upgrade especially fire doors and room doors ... But if your looking for 5 star then this is not the hotel for you.. If your looking for good food and wine and staff that are very hard working and happy to help you then this is it ..

Review 56:The food was exceptional and the staff were very hard working. The setting is lovely and the views are great(but only if you get a room that allows this) ours wasn't great.. But hey ho u make the best of what you get.

Review 57:Our room was on top floor - smaller window and rather dark. Bar and "lounge" (which is in the corridor to the old station) seemed to lack atmosphere and didn't look inviting.

Review 58:Great position: lovely views, very peaceful, gorgeous dining room and excellent breakfast. Grounds are beautiful and atmospheric.

Review 59:The bed in room 215 needs a new mattress. We could feel the springs through, not a good nights sleep.

Review 60:The location and setting of the hotel was great, the staff were lovely and the breakfast good. The view of the hills from our room was stunning, so much so that we left the curtains open as to close them would spoil waking up to the view on the morning.

Review 61:I paid the same amount of money for 2 rooms one room was as I had expected the other was substandard the staff in the dining room were rude

Review 62:The location

Review 63:Room 309 - Great views but unfortunately could not see them in the morning due to severe condensation in the windows which was a disappointment.

Review 64:Good views and nice grounds

Review 65:breakfast was fine, Evening meals too spicy for us, lack of plain evening meals

Review 66:staff were pleasant, room was clean but the whole hotel is in need of a makeover!

Review 67:We were sorry to see the putting green had become a croquet lawn.

Review 68:It's one of our favourite hotels - we've been visiting intermittently for years. Love the position, peace & quiet. Always enjoy the lovely meals.

Review 69:the Restaurant Manager who in the last day brutally asked me to pay for the ommlate egg, for me it is no problem to pay, but the way she treated me was very bad, it was only 18 pound, what 18 pound for 3 bed rooms 3 night I hired!!!

Review 70:the bisects , and hot chocolate they usually put them with the cattle

Review 71:The shower in our room was tricky to access as it involved stepping over the side of a high bath with no grab rail on the wall.

Review 72:General comfort, good food.

Review 73:For a 168 Pounds a night wasn't worth the money the room smelled of damp wouldn't go back

Review 74:The location was excellent And The food was great.

Review 75:Only complaint would be outside under our room window there seemed to be a fan or air con unit running on and off through the night but it didn't spoil our weekend.

Review 76:Location was very good 5 minutes to town centre, breakfast good and service excellent all staff very pleasant room not that big but clean and everything we needed.

Review 77:Booked a suite for two nights at cost of £438 b&b. Deal included a welcome tray of bottled water, chocolates and bathrobes but no water left in room for the second night. Assumed maid had simply missed them, but on asking at reception was informed that we had to buy at the bar if we wanted bottled water as only included for first night. £219.00 a night and no water ?

Review 78:Location and staff.

Review 79:Wifi didn't work very well. More imaginative breakfasts would be appreciated eg cheese to go with croissants; and vegetarian sausages.

Review 80:Location of hotel and traditional architecture. Comfortable lounge with books.

Review 81:Small things like no tissues in the room, bathroom floor tiles were a slip hazard and bed mattress too soft.

Review 82:The friendly professional staff and the superb quality of the food. Will return as soon as possible.

Review 83:We absolutely loved this hotel, though it isn't the easiest to find. Stunning location and very helpful reception staff! Breakfast was also lovely.

Review 84:Minor things. Shower didn't work on two mornings,no pressure. used the bath instead which was fine. Plenty of hot water. Thin walls between next door.Could here everything from Talking, running their bath and flushing their toilet.

Review 85:Location very good. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast very good.

Review 86:We were made to feel very welcome. Everyone was so helpful restaurant staff very polite receptionist very helpful cheerful and friendly her name is Maya

Review 87:The not so good points were the beds being a bit on the hard side, no vegetarian option for the breakfast and no wifi in the room.

Review 88:We enjoyed overall our stay. The price was a bargain for a twin bed and the facilities were great with ample car parking and situated in the heart of Keswick.

Review 89:Issues with some things in first room, but these were resolved immediately when we reported them by moving us to another room which was much better. Decor needs updated, some areas quite shabby.

Review 90:All the staff we encountered were excellent. They were friendly, professional and helpful. The buffet breakfast was very good. Good parking available and great location near to the town.

Review 91:£4.95 to get a bucket of ice for our room. Not being able to have coffee as part of dinner but having to go to the bar and pay separately.Yale locks were the only security in bedrooms.

Review 92:The staff were wonderful,so friendly and happy to help.We felt welcome. The room was slightly dated but very clean and comfortable.Great views and a super restaurant.

Review 93:The double bed was the downfall of our stay it was well overdue to be replaced as it had a distinct hard ridge across the base that was felt through the mattress at hip level by both occupants. (top floor garden view)

Review 94:The location is perfect, the food is wonderful and the staff work as a team giving superb service - bedrooms are comfortable, clean and roomy and the showers really good.

Review 95:Our room was very average for a so called junior suite. Stingy supplies of tea/coffee/milk, no fridge , minimal bathroom extras such as shampoo etc, no tissues. Disappointing in terms of the high cost for the room.

Review 96:Hotel in a very pleasant location. The staff were helpful and pleasant

Review 97:First room offered had excess scented room freshener and the windows would not open. Fortunately another room was available

Review 98:Easy parking, delightful reception staff, good breakfast

Review 99:Breakfast - cold, stale croissant and dated decor. Our bedroom overlooked the lounge area and was noisy - had to have the curtains constantly closed!!

Review 100:Very convenient location, ample parking and friendly staff.

Review 101:leaving

Review 102:everything,lovely hotel. staff very efficient but always pleasant with a smile. food fantastic. location could not have been better, derwent water spectacular

Review 103:Huge bathrooms with very high tub and very hot water.

Review 104:The surrounding gardens and its location just outside the town. The breakfast buffet was a touch of luxury with real table linens and pleasant service. Next time we hope to enjoy dinner also. The front desk staff were especially helpful.

Review 105:Got the booking wrong and left us with double not twin rooms. Made every effort to rectify it though and probably not a direct fault of the hotel but third party booking firm.

Review 106:great location for walking

Review 107:My room was situated right next to a 'common room ' with a pool table and a lot of noise , just people relaxing on their break, I however was extremely tired and in need of a good nights sleep. The room is not sound proofed in any way, large gap under door and a fairly unnecessary window looking out onto the pool table. This really spoiled my stay and I wouldn't stay again.

Review 108:Most comfortable and clean room in a lovely Victorian hotel in beautiful surroundings in a very good location. The restaurant food was excellent choice and quality. A definite place to re-visit.

Review 109:The floor squeak. There was a 2" gap under our door. The carpets are very worn and at over 200CD's/nite it is overpriced compared to other accommodations we have rented in the UK>

Review 110:The location was fine

Review 111:Wifi was abit tricky to connect to in some places, so children complained but not a major issue at all.

Review 112:Hotel was situated away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to walk into Keswick. Had a parking space which was wonderful ! All staff were very helpful and friendly. Would recommend and stay again.

Review 113:The hotel public areas are in generally in need of update and renovation however the room we stayed in, although clean with a comfortable bed, needs to be closed until its renovated. For instance, none of the 3 windows in the room opened, in fact, one had a random piece of ill fitting wood screwed on top of the loose rotten window sill which was loose, the toilet door was a faded beige on one side and an even more faded yellow on the other, the curtain rail in the bathroom was missing the curtain and surrounded by black mold and completed by 1990's decor & suite which was equally tired. I could go on but you get the picture

Review 114:very friendly helpful staff, great location with good parking

Review 115:The food was superb. I'd previously avoided half board and was prepared to eat elsewhere but the quality of the food and the service was impeccable.

Review 116:The shower in our room was not very powerful and given the price charged for B&B I would expect a good quality shower. The windows rattled in the wind at night.

Review 117:Comfortable and quiet hotel. Good breakfast and reasonable bar food.

Review 118:Very minor issue. Main meal dry (hardly any gravy on it) and when I asked for more gravy I was told there was none left!!!

Review 119:View from bedroom window. Overlooked gardens and mountains. Service second to none and food delicious,

Review 120:Only staying one night

Review 121:Lovely atmosphere from walking into reception Robert very pleasant and helpful.Room lovely and big and spotless clean. Parking no problem and the breakfast was beautifully cooked and plenty of choice. Staff in restaurant very pleasant and helpful.

Review 122:We would have preferred an a la carte meal availability. As old people, we cannot do justice to the three course meals which are the only option. Bar meals service closes too early

Review 123:The ambience of the hotel was superb. Adequate car parking meant we didn't have to fight for a place near our room in the old station.

Review 124:minor niggles not enough coffee sachets for use in room no hot bar meals available in the evening- a three course meal is not always wanted toiletries limited - no individual sachets no shampoo = no body lotion

Review 125:wonderful view over fells and hotel garden location - very near to Keswick main street/are good breakfast and variety very pleasant helpful staff excellent spacious room - very clean

Review 126:The mattress is not up to industry standard. Pillows are lumpy. Upholstered chairs in bar/lounge in serious need of renewal.

Review 127:The location is wonderful. It is set in large and well-cared for grounds. Beautifully quiet at night yet birdsong woke us in the morning.

Review 128:Extra charges for some breakfast items. Evening meal times booked up even before we arrived.

Review 129:A very professionally run hotel Ample parking nearby The way that they coped with a gas failure and provided an alternative evening meal, without cooking facilities, which was excellent.

Review 130:I know they were busy and had big parties in but felt service too swift. To some the evening meal is an occasion to enjoy good and converse

Review 131:We had an upgraded room and as before loved looking over cat bells. And even had breakfast in room to look I've hills

Review 132:Our room v poor - cracked window pane, lumpy mattress , poor wi -fi, badly fitting door with loose screws and handle , small area with view of rear car park !!!

Review 133:Staff - friendly and efficient Location - easy walk into Keswick Food - v good evening meals and breakfast

Review 134:Loved the historic building and its quiet location with easy parking. Friendly staff and a clean and comfortable room. My wife and I had a very pleasant stay and we will be very happy to book a room there again on future visits to Keswick.
