Reviews for The County Hotel
Review 1:Bed was very uncomfortable and I couldnt turn the heating down in the room. Opening the window you then had all the noise from the traffic
Review 2:It was in the middle of town and ideal for pubs, clubs and Restaurants
Review 3:The room had good facilities bed was comfy but the floors were excessively noisy (creaky) and we could every noise from the adjacent bathroom which wasn't pleasant, shower could do with an upgrade and the shelf in the bathroom was still dirty!
Review 4:It was a perfect location for a one night stay for interview next day
Review 5:Room scruffy, could not modify heating and staff very unresponsive. £135 for 2 nights room only - poor value. Told staff, no response, had to get someone up at 3 a.m. to turn heating off, caps on radiators removed, overall very poor quality.
Review 6:The location was good that it where it ends
Review 7:Hotel very basic and temperature in room was way to hot which made it really uncomfortable. Unable to turn radiator down as the knob had fallen off! Window very hard to open. Room (top floor) very small. Room in need of an update. Felt it was over priced
Review 8:Location for Carlisle night life and shops was perfect - Room and bedding was clean
Review 9:1. Only down side was not advised on booking that the hotel had their own carpark and was advised to use the public carparks near the hotel and it was only by luck that I found the Hotel carpark at the rear of the hotel.
Review 10:1. Attitude of all the staff was excellent. 2. Location of the hotel could not have been better
Review 11:The decor was "tired" and it could do with a refurbishment. The building is good and it would be a wonderful hotel if refurbished.
Review 12:This was a central hotel, with good parking and in the city centre so close to all the restaurants and shops.
Review 13:Room was very small, shower was hanging off wall. Walls were dirty, mill dew on walls. Toilet sat was not nice and marked. Unable to comfortably lying in bed and watch television. Television signal was poor, some stations showing "poor or no signal"
Review 14:Able to park at rear of hotel. Nice breakfast.
Review 15:Well . . . the Hotel was right amongst the clubs. We were there on Saturday & Sunday night. There are so many people partying that they close the street to cars and we saw the police literally take people away in hand cuffs! It was very loud and impossible to sleep. The partying goes on until 4am, then at 4:30, the street sweepers come by to clean up the vomit and food. There was also a smell of chemicals or solvents in the room. If you are not there for the party, I'd suggest staying elsewhere...
Review 16:The hotel was walking distance to Carlisle Castle.
Review 17:room was a long way from elevator and up and down a lot of stairs to get there
Review 18:located opposite the railway station and 2 minutes walk from the town centre breakfast was adequate
Review 19:a little noisy at night hotel ison main road with late night bars
Review 20:the hotel is in a great position for Carlisle shopping and railway station the hotel was a little dated .but all in all pleasant staff great breakfast and a comfortable room after the storm in Cumbria I had to stay another night along with other rail passengers hotel were very helpful I would stay at this hotel again
Review 21:Very noisy old hotel. Not sound proof at all. My room was facing the back which meant I could smell the food made in the kitchen and had to listen to the massive fan from the kitchen almost 24/7. If facing the street one can hear the traffic and drunk people at night. Strange very old hotel. Friendly staff when they are are around! Most of the times they are not.
Review 22:Hotel is right next to the train station.
Review 23:hotel is very tired , stair carpet worn , rooms although clean could be doing with an overhaul and bathrooms new shower would not go amiss
Review 24:excellent location and good price, room clean and tidy . Staff very helpful. Would stay again
Review 25:Check-in from 14:00. Was not possible to get the room earlier.
Review 26:Easy to find. Right across the street from the railway station. Good heating on the room!
Review 27:The room was very shabby, toilet roll holder broken, thermostat on heater was broken, top of tap missing, putty/plaster all over tiles where shower rail was fixed, lock on door very difficult to lock/open
Review 28:Great location in centre of town
Review 29:Not good value for money. Whilst the room was clean, the hotel itself need a bit of TLC. The room was expensive for what it was.
Review 30:Very close to the train station and centre of town.
Review 31:Flush was a bit dodgy and the room was in the corner on the 3rd floor. Quite a walk up the stairs.
Review 32:Just stopped in the night. Good price. Free parking. Reasonable room.
Review 33:Dated exterior and reception area.
Review 34:Excellent value for money. Free car park. Friendly helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Rooms are clean and well kept. Near train station.
Review 35:Buffet breakfast was a slight issue. The quality of the offered items was very good but we felt that there was a few things missing from the breakfast line up e.g. black pudding, hash browns, fried bread. Though I must stress again that what was available was very good.
Review 36:Location was excellent. Room was spotless. Mattress was a little firm, suited me perfectly though not my wife. Receptionist was very pleasant and helpful. Hotel overall was very clean and warm if possibly a little dated but we have had a great stay here.
Review 37:Nathalie on reception was a delightful young lady and made the whole check in/check out process extremely pleasureable. Single room was a nice size and although the room and the hotel as a whole could be described as dated and old fashioned that is just exactly what I like. Overall a very nice experience at a real value for money rate of £35.
Review 38:Cleanliness left a lot to be desired with notes from previous guests left stuck to the mirror on the wall and cider pack left too very run down and in need of a good clean tiles in the bathroom were discusting!!! The shower was held up with black electrical tape very poor for city Center!!! :(
Review 39:Location was fantastic
Review 40:Room was long and thin and quite dark. Heater on on a very mild day so had to have window open all tne time.
Review 41:Very central and convenient. Good bed, good shower. Soap, shampoo and shower gel provided. Not expensive.
Review 42:Room far too hot and unable to alter heating or open window. Very low ceiling in room; easy to bang your head. Toilet roll holder in en suite in bad place, sticking out and caught on back when using toilet. Carpet in room stained. Mattress uncomfortable and springs noisy. Hotel toilets in poor state of repair and dirty.
Review 43:Good location. Friendly staff.
Review 44:Room near the kitchens so not the best of smells coming through, also a aircon fan motor or extraction was right by my room with constant noise all night.
Review 45:Clean and tidy if a little dated, great location.
Review 46:there was no one at reception rang 0 as indicated on counter. He was very pleasant when he came after a 5 minute wait. Had to go out for dinner restaurant was closed.
Review 47:The location for the city and places to eat and drink.
Review 48:The rooms were a very good size however the bathroom was a bit cramped and dated.
Review 49:The staff were polite and efficient the breakfast facilities were reasonably good..The hotel location was very good for all the transport connections and shopping. Good car park for a central location.
Review 50:The floorboards were an absolute disgrace both below and above in almost every part of the room and ensuite. It was impossible to move anywhere in the room without them creaking loudly and the room above was just the same.
Review 51:Central Position in the City and parking
Review 52:Noisy extractor in bathroom, sash window wouldn't stay open and it was very warm. Room very dark. CRT TV with 6 digital channels was actually an old 14" useless set with very snowy 2 channels we couldn't watch. Reporting it resulted in NOTHING being done. Poor show there !
Review 53:Great location near the shops and Church. Plenty of eateries nearby. Comfy beds and good ensuite facilities.
Review 54:we had noise both mornings at 7am from a family above us
Review 55:It was very conveinient from the train station and also the ameinities we had a couple of 2good days and reception staff where good
Review 56:Breakfast wasn't included but it didn't look very appealing so we skipped it. The shower in our room didn't work at all. Fixtures and fittings, especially in the bathroom, were pretty worn. The floorboards all over the hotel are really creaky.
Review 57:Reception staff were friendly
Review 58:Room was not serviced the second day. No cleaning done, no clean cup or garbage removed. Had to ask for clean towels. Very noisy.
Review 59:Within walking distance of centre of town
Review 60:The hotel is in need of major investment and facility upgrade. The room was reasonably comfortable, but the shower was pathetic. We would have considered using the restaurant, but could not find a menu to preview. The "lounge bar" completely lacked any atmosphere.
Review 61:Staff very friendly and helpful, the hotel is in a prime town centre position and therefore handy for all local attractions. The room was large, very clean and comfortable, though it could do with a make over as it looked a bit tired.
Review 62:The room was cold in the evenings and early mornings, despite the fact it's September. I asked for the heating to go on, but this didn't happen. They did provide extra blankets though.
Review 63:The breakfast was really good value for money. I appreciated having a room with a bath, too. Room was small, but very comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities and a TV. Staff were polite and helpful. Very central location with newsagents, bars and restaurants nearby.
Review 64:ROOM IN NEED OF REFURBISHMENT. COULD HAVE BEEN CLEANER. NOISY BAR AND DISCO ACROSS THE ROAD UNTIL 5AM. NIGHTMARE OR WHAT. COULDN'T CHANGE ROOM BECAUSE APPARENTLY WE HAD THE LAST ROOM.
Review 65:LARGE SPACIOUS ROOM ROOM. GOOD CAR PARKING.
Review 66:Very good size rooms although the place could do with a bit of a tart-up. Though I suppose that would affect the price which was very reasonable. Great location right in the centre of everything
Review 67:I don't necessarily have any bad points. Just a few opinions. The main thing for my partner and I was that the hotel needs an update. Everything from the decor, to furniture, facilities etc. needs a revamp but nothing to complain about!
Review 68:The best thing about the County Hotel is by far the location. Centre of town, on the street with the best pubs and clubs. 5 minutes walk from the best Thai restaurant in the north of England; Ruen Thai, 5 minutes walk from the cathedral, 15 minute walk from Brunton Park; home of Carlisle United, and one street away from the train station.
Review 69:Poor bath taps didn't work properly, had to fill it from shower head. Noisy and inconsiderate guests at night. Breakfast not included. My grandson's single room on the top floor was poky and very expensive for what it was.
Review 70:Good car park. Central location. Tea and coffee in room. Bed was comfortable. Public rooms and lounge were comfy and allowed us room to chat.
Review 71:Well for a start the room was dated, to say the least. We asked for a double, but got a double single, a room with a double bed and a single. The double bed was squeaky and lumpy. The bathroom was dirty and somewhere you would feel filthy after washing in. The location was right on the corner of Carlisle's very loud nightlife. So from checking in, then nipping out for something to eat at a local pizza place (no doubt, the best part of Carlisle).. we got back around 9, as we had to set off for the next leg of our journey. The music was constant, then later on when the clubs emptied out, and our rooms location also overlooked the street with all the clubs and the take away strip, after the music came the screaming, arguing and quite possibly fighting. It's fair to say that I have spent a more relaxed and peaceful night in a police station.
Review 72:Checking out. Wheel spinning out the car park!!
Review 73:Cannot use bedroom telephone to phone out . Loud music till early hours from hotel opposite
Review 74:Very close to railway station . Friendly and helpful staff. Cosy and clean room. Nice food. Free WiFi.
Review 75:Unclean, carpet (stained and needed cleaned all over) dirty smell in the room sprayed over with airfreshner but still unclean, shower mouldy, bathroom floor dirty and sticky. Radiator did not work. The bed was uncomfortable. Room 121
Review 76:Location was the best thing about this hotel the bed linned was clean as were the towels.
Review 77:it was dirty TV didn:t work whole hotel was totally run down and had a strange smell. only stayed one night had to find other accomation for saturday night so lost money and had to pay for new hotel so disappointed.
Review 78:nothing
Review 79:Our room was at the front of the hotel, on a busy high street bustling with bars and loud music. The music didn't stop until the early hours, resulting in very little sleep. Floorboards in the hotel are very creaky too, meaning that you hear all movement above and around you. We checked out a day early, due to the lack of sleep. Ideal hotel if you are a party goer, not wanting to sleep till the early hours
Review 80:The greeting was friendly and we were dealt with quickly and efficiently.
Review 81:The room was awful. Tatty and dirty-looking. Low-headroom, past its refurb date.
Review 82:RIGHT OPPOSITE THE STATION AND BUS TERMINUS. Quaint old-fashioned stately decayed grandeur.
Review 83:Rooms were a little tired and only one chair in the room.
Review 84:Location fantastic, staff very helpful and cheerful, rooms spacious. Overall a very good place to stay and great value for money
Review 85:the room was small the bed was clean but the mattress was like a bag of potatoes, holes in the walls, very noisy until 3am ,parking was a disaster no room and was blocked in.
Review 86:breakfast,shower was hot
Review 87:The room itself was comfy. However the bathroom wasnt only dirty but the facilities were terrible to be honest. Shower was terrible not powerful and very poor. Not even basic. Less than. Staff were very polite and friendly. Very disappointed in the bathroom
Review 88:Friendly staff. Comfy bed.
Review 89:The room was excessively hot, although there was no heating on, had to wedge the window open using spare toilet roll this made very little difference to the temperature. The shower had very little pressure, the water just dribbled out.
Review 90:The location was excellent for the purpose of my trip
Review 91:The shower was very low powered, bathroom needs to be updated. When the toilet was flushed a horrendous stench pervaded the room. We were between two corridors and could hear people talking all night and doors banging in the early hours of the morning.
Review 92:The bed was comfortable and the room was clean
Review 93:Room was right on top of a club or bar. Extremely noisy. Room seemed to have been cleaned, but carpets very stained and lots of botchy repair jobs. Interior dated and not in good state. Remote for TV not working.
Review 94:Very central location Free parking Friendly staff
Review 95:The location is slap bang in the midst of the pub scene and the noise ofloud music until 2.00am was dreadful. I would not recommend the locationunless attending a stag or hen party.
Review 96:Nothing.
Review 97:Terrible dated furniture with broken seat and bedside drawers. Filthy carpets with burn marks, uncomfortable lumpy bed. Bathroom/shower was barely used as everything looked grim and dirty.
Review 98:Friendly reception staff, and the size and location of the room was very good.
Review 99:The room i had was in attic with slopping ceilings .Being 5.10tall i hit my head a few times getting in and out of bed .Also mattress needed to be replaced
Review 100:I liked the location, ideal for station and city center
Review 101:room really hot even on one of the days it rained all day room was at the front lot of noise from pubs and clubs .
Review 102:friendly staff central location free parking
Review 103:My room was on the main street and very noisy as there were some pubs and nightclub close by. Not a great nights sleep
Review 104:Location is right next to train station, which is what I wanted
Review 105:room was very small for 2 people with bags, and the gap between the wardrobe and wall to get into the room was ridiculously small! Our room was a long long long way from the lift and we had to lift our bags up and down several flights of stairs The whole place needs a major renovation, a lot of money spent. Hopefully I won't be staying there again!
Review 106:central location
Review 107:it was supposed to be handicapped but really wasn't. Had low toilet and not wheelchair accessible shower. even a tub bench would have worked. Although back entrance was w/chair access the back lane was hopeless with wheelchair
Review 108:location
Review 109:Rather old and tired. Stains on carpet on stairs. Breakfast did not offer a lot of choice. Perhaps this is all reflected in the price.
Review 110:Very close to the Railway station - great for train travelers.
Review 111:Paradoxically, the problem with the location is that being on the main pub/ club street the noise doesn't abate until 4/5am!
Review 112:Central location which is good for train station and all the attractions in central Carlisle.
Review 113:ist room allocated to us was on top floor in roof eaves I coudnt stand up in half of room due to angle of roof'
Review 114:went to reception and asked if there was another room available due to fact I couldn't stand up in half the room ,staff on reception went on computer and found alternative room with out any fuss at all ,new room was great, staff very polite and helpful.
Review 115:Carpets and curtains are filthy, bed and pillows uncomfortable. A very large room facing the front the noise went on til 4am on Saturday night not good if you are a light sleeper.
Review 116:The location and free car parking
Review 117:Very noisy as town centre location, night club turn out resulted in fighting in the street and glasses being thrown. Didn't get much sleep.
Review 118:Great that you can take your dog/s.
Review 119:Dated hotel needing maintenance and refurbishment. Old sash windows in room nearly broke fingers. secondary glazing also dangerous. Windows filthy. Carpets in common areas threadbare.
Review 120:Location great.
Review 121:Room unbearably noisy - above pub disco. No duty manager to talk to. Other staff gave me a different room for second night which was OK.
Review 122:Staff polite and helpful in difficult circumstances and in the absence of the management team.
Review 123:Grubby, needs modernising/refurbishing, shower pathetic (no water pressure), hotel/room far too hot; windows wouldn't stay open, had to prop open!!!!!!!
Review 124:Location
Review 125:Hotel could do with some updating and we were woken up several times in the night with noise coming from the street below.
Review 126:Convenient location in town centre with parking. Clean and comfortable bed. Breakfast very good
Review 127:We checked out of the hotel a day early because we hardly slept on Saturday night because several guests coming in very late into the night didn't consider other guests by shouting and laughing and banging doors. We were also located near to the lift which also was working into the night and a door at the top of the stairs that squeaked every time it was used.
Review 128:The hotel was located near to the city centre with private parking
Review 129:The room is extremely small. After getting out of the lift, you still have to take your luggage up two flights of steps, then down two flights again.
Review 130:The location is excellent as the train station is just cross the road.
Review 131:room smelt damp- very basic- bathroom grim. Night club over the road -which weren't told about- horrendous noise till 0130 in the morning . would not go again
Review 132:The heat was unbearable in the room. Dispite calling reception at 6am to turn it off, the heat was still on at 9am. Sleepless, uncomfortable night
Review 133:Location was great although was very noisy, room size was okay.
Review 134:Poor state of repair and cleanliness. Needs a complete refurbishment. Lack of electrical outlets.
Review 135:Easy booking and location. Adequate tea: coffee making facilities.
Review 136:Single glazing in front rooms noise was unbelievable got no sleep at all they shouldn't use those rooms hotel tired and shabby but due to be refurbished bathrooms grubby and flushes not working
Review 137:Excellent location lovely breakfasts and the staff were lovely helpfully and friendly they took the rap for the lack of investment in the hotel poor souls not their fault
Review 138:The fact the door wouldn't close we had to sleep with door open all night creek in floor boards no breakfast in the price they said we would have to pay extra which I thought was in price .
Review 139:It was central location
Review 140:Stained & torn Carpets, broken tiles left on Bathroom floor, windows did not stay open & when shut left gap at the top so cold draft. Cleaner walked straight in on us in the morning. Over all Management un willing to comment or rectify problems
Review 141:Nothing, wished we had left to find another Hotel.....
Review 142:Advertised 6 digital TV channels, could only get 2 with good reception and 1 with poor reception.
Review 143:Staff were excellent, building was lovely but decoration could do with freshening up. location first class. Great value for money.
Review 144:The fact that breakfast not included in price (someone booked in before me same price but included breakfast)........but I understand that was probably down to the booking agents, not the hotel. The floorboards a bit noisy, hear the movements about, both above and same floor.
Review 145:Very convenient for town centre, railway station, eating places
