Reviews for The Mary Mount Hotel

Review 1:Nothing.

Review 2:During our stay, there was widespread flooding around Keswick and theroad to the hotel was closed for a couple of days. The manager and histeam were very cheerful and professional in circumstances where theymust have been worried about their own homes and families. Hope to beback soon.

Review 3:The owner and staff were perfect. We were there for the weekend that Keswick flooded - the staff remained wonderful throughout the weekend despite it being a very stressful time for them. Additionally, the views from the dining room are fab.

Review 4:The rain and floods.

Review 5:The staff were friendly and helpfull. Considering guests and staff we were trapped by the recent floods for two days they could not have done more or been more professional

Review 6:Breakfast service and food was excellent and we enjoyed our first 'British' evening meal in restaurant. Unfortunately we chose a Thai green curry and Risotto on our last night both of which were well below par.

Review 7:Excellent service from staff, made you feel welcome on arrival. Very spacious and comfortable room.

Review 8:Very hot and stuffy in hotel. One hour slot for breakfast. Staff seemed to be in a rush to get you in and out.

Review 9:Lovely location on edge of Derwentwater. Spotlessly clean room overlooking lake and surrounding fells.

Review 10:Smell of cooking on entering hotel due to kitchen doors being left open. Mattress in wooden bed frame squeaked and mattress too firm. Floorboards squeaked. Shower curtain in cubicle - prefer a shower door. Don't like having to order food at Bar prior to eating expect waitress service. Lounge décor dated and one arm of a chair was worn through. Only 1 hour slot for breakfast between 8am and 9am and Staff started clearing away promptly.

Review 11:Lovely picturesque view from bedroom, river, mountains and sheep. Cosy lounge with log fire and chiming mantle clock, very homely.

Review 12:We had a twin room, my husband's bed wasn't very comfortable and made a lot of noise when turning over. Whilst the position of the hotel was fantastic the walk of 3-4 miles into Keswick was along a narrow track, sometimes along the side of the road which made it unsuitable for us to undertake with our buggy.

Review 13:Lovely restaurant with fantastic views to the lake. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Bedroom was a great size with plenty of room for our baby's travel cot.

Review 14:Staff friendly, helpful and attentive. Great location, food in restaurant was superbly cooked and presented. Nice ambiance and value for money. Would stay again.

Review 15:All good I really liked that if you missed breakfast as we did because we had a busy day travelling etc.. And didn't Check in till late the night before we were offered food and a drink at no extra cost.

Review 16:Did not like the amount of dogs in the hotel, saying that our room had no trace or an animal being in there.

Review 17:could not fault the hotel, room ,staff, even the weather was good.

Review 18:The original hotel buildings were full of character and the restaurant/breakfast room had great views of Derwent Water. My room was in the newly built separate building and it was spacious, clean and modern.

Review 19:Although dogs were allowed in bar (which we took our two small Yorkshire Terriors into) one night there was a few ladies in who had very large dogs, including a very large rottweiler running loose, you could tell this was making other customers uncomfortable since a few left, also whilst eating my dinner a large head appeared by my left arm looking at my food. Waiters had to walk across the fireplace to self and the people in question were over loud which spoil the occasion. Felt that staff should have said something in this particular instance.

Review 20:Attentive staff, good food and lovely location

Review 21:Excellent location, clean and comfortable, and impressive views from the dining room, nice little bar too. Very Dog friendly, no problem at all having a dog with you.

Review 22:My only suggestion is that breakfast could be presented more thoughtfully. Certainly large enough but looked a bit thrown together

Review 23:Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location in late Autumn. Cosy room, nice hot shower and friendly staff.

Review 24:The fact we only had two nights.

Review 25:The view from our bedroom window was fantastic. We could see right across Derwet Water. The staff and the manager couldn't do enough for you.

Review 26:Friendly staff, Excellent service, awesome location. The breakfasts were well prepared and to everybody's liking. The evening meals were top class.

Review 27:staff very friendly room clean and comfortable we were with a wedding party and as there was no mobile phone connection it would have been easier if there had been a phone in the room as in most hotels, but the stay was great and would stay again.

Review 28:We were in the new block at the back The only thing I would say that the room was much to hot.

Review 29:Lovely hotel 2nd time we've stayed at Mary mount hotel and will be going back. I thought the staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast very good.

Review 30:This time we stayed in the main building and as I am a very poor sleeper I did find the fans in adjoining bathrooms noisy during the night.

Review 31:This is our second stay and many staff were still there. They are all helpful and kind and have time to chat.

Review 32:Strange smell in the bathroom of room 21 (mould?)

Review 33:Attentive staff Good food and drink Free parking and free wifi Substantial packed lunch (for a fee) Close to Keswick

Review 34:Personally, I do like a room with a bath & felt the room was expensive in view of the fact there was no bath.

Review 35:Staff were friendly. Meals were excellent.

Review 36:Wifi did not extend to outer bungalow rooms. Shower in room 12 could be better - too weak or too hot. But outweighed by positives

Review 37:Setting was awesome, food great and having dog friendly areas was fantastic

Review 38:That's a lot tough one.....if there was anything at all for me the bedroom was too warm during the night but I am being really picky

Review 39:The staff; they are brilliant very obliging

Review 40:It would have been helpful to have a chair to sit on in the bedroom altho' not much room for one. Had to sit on bed for comfort . Sitting area in bar arranged in groups for four and comfortable seating for one or just two would have been easier as I felt I was taking up too much space.

Review 41:Lovely setting, and very convenient for buses into Keswick - no need to use car. relaxed food times for snacks etc. during day. Very friendly and helpful staff. enjoyed the generous helpings of food!

Review 42:Breakfast was not good at all. Full English was very dry and bland. No sauce on table or offer of any. Toast served but had to go and get butter from Buffett table as not on table. Very disappointed. Not much choice at all. This really let the place down.

Review 43:Location was beautiful. Room comfy and clean.

Review 44:A very minor niggle - I'd prefer drink and food orders to be taken at the table and not have to go to the bar.

Review 45:Great location and the room was spotless, friendly staff, good food and we a would definately go back. An added bonus - Grange and back is a nice easy walk if you'd rather just look at the hills than climb up them!

Review 46:position of hotel was fab -overlooking a lake with mountains all around. food was excellent and room was clean and cosy.friendly staff and breakfast was excellent-would def stay here again.

Review 47:The bed was soft and bathroom dreary.

Review 48:The staff was very helpful. We had planned to check out early so we could arrive in York in the late am. They packed substantial lunches for us to take the place of the breakfast we were going to miss! The signage to find the Mary Mount Hotel was very helpful.

Review 49:The Shower was the only thing to grumble about, as temperature was up & down & no pressure, but your only in it for a bit anyway, but thought I'd mention

Review 50:such a Beautiful location, with stunning views, A warm & friendly Greeting at All times, Relaxed atmosphere, The room was cleaned each day, The Food was Fantastic would & have Recommended this Hotel to others & will be going back shortly & again next year

Review 51:Beautiful views, very friendly staff, idyllic hideaway. Food was plentiful and good quality for the money. Nothing to complain about but the fact that we had to go home, could have stayed far longer than our 5 nights, will love to return and hope to very soon. Fantastic all round!

Review 52:The only bad thing we could say is we had to go home.

Review 53:We were very impressed. The food was excellent. the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We will be visiting again and have recommended to all our friends.

Review 54:No complaints at all.

Review 55:Fabulous location. Great breakfast. Staff extremely friendly & helpful. Couldn't ask for more. Room 40 has a lovely surprise of a patio, sunbeds & a view over the lake....lovely surprise!

Review 56:The ensuite felt a little dated, the shower small.

Review 57:Friendly staff and beautiful scenery. Several vegetarian options in the restaurant. Breakfast cooked to order in the morning.

Review 58:Situation perfect, would recommend as really peacefull and the boat to Keswick at the bottom of garden you couldn't ask for more. Bird watchers will love it

Review 59:The room was quite small and there was no mirror near a socket to plug in my hairdryer I had to use a small makeup mirror and sit on the floor use the socket near the bed. Wifi wasn't very good

Review 60:Location was beautiful staff were all very good. Food was very nice Breakfast was good plenty choice

Review 61:Not a major dislike but just the comfort of the bed and the noise it made if you even moved your arm,

Review 62:The hotel is in a perfect location peaceful and tranquil, Staff are helpful and welcoming. The room overall was fantastic with one of the best power showers I've ever had (Room 33) just what you need after a long day of hiking.

Review 63:The only fault I could find with the room was that there was no shower, just one of those rubber attachments for the taps to wash your hair with. A proper overhead shower would have been better.

Review 64:Loved the location and staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and well equipped. Bar and lounge areas were very comfortable and clean. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

Review 65:Really did not like the breakfast only being served between 8 am and 9 am and when I was still in the restaurant at 9.30 am they were vaccum cleaning the restaurant so not very relaxing, as would like the option of a bit more of a lie in bed on holidays. Should be extended at least by another hour and also check out was 10 am which seems a bit early these days 11 am would suit better. From our room the smell of the deep fryer from the kitchen was very strong and not very nice at all and also the kitchen staff talking loudly outside the kitchen door was a bit disturbing as we could clearly hear all of their conversation.

Review 66:Location and friendly staff were great. Good service. Nice clean room with door that opened to view.

Review 67:This was a birthday treat for my partners 80th birthday. Pity he was not able to walk further owing to major heart surgery 18 months ago or we would have loved to have walked all round the area. As we are narrow boat owners we enjoyed the boat trip. The hotel was a happy place and the food was excellent. We will certainly visit again

Review 68:Unlike previous stay, we were on ground floor (room 21?), and the ceiling creaked whenever anyone walked around above us - including 3am, 5am... DO NOT stay on the ground floor if there's a room above. Room 21 also received loud noise from kitchen staff (voices & dishes) at dinner time - tho not at breakfast time, happily for those who rise late!

Review 69:Lovely place & surroundings. Nice to have all those bird feeders by the dining room windows.

Review 70:Nightlife in Keswick is quite bad no music being played in the bars on a Saturday night? We did ask but they just told us to go to the loft club to which the bouncers said wont get busy or good till 12.30am

Review 71:Everything about the hotel

Review 72:Only negative was the hardness of the bed which reduced the overall score from 12/10 to 11/10.

Review 73:Location, staff, informal atmosphere, cleanliness, furniture - I love it. We will stay here whenever we come to the Lakes.

Review 74:Room 4 has the kitchen fan next to it! Car park gets very busy in summer Some will like the super soft bed

Review 75:Situated beside its own 3 jettys Very near Lorodale falls and one brilliant walk over a pretty bridge. Breakfast and lunch "wrap" were excellent Beside a small river Several fine views boats rentable within 100 metres of hotel good easy wi-fi

Review 76:This was booked as a present for my parents wedding anniversary. My mum is extremely fussy - and she loved every part of it! Believe me when I say this place must be good to get her approval!

Review 77:webooked two rooms, one of the rooms near the kitchen is quite noisy, never book the room on the ground floor

Review 78:beautiful place birds sheep rabbit around hotel

Review 79:Leaving to go back to London!

Review 80:The staff were all very helpful and happy from the start. It's a beautiful location and my wife was extremely happy with everything. They even have vegetarian breakfast available, which is not common. I have already suggested this hotel to friends and family.

Review 81:Huge bed not entirely level so rolled to edge - slept well there though!

Review 82:Clean, modern room. Quiet environment. Fab shower. Great location for Scafell Pike hike.

Review 83:The weather!!!!! :) The bathroom decor let the room down a fraction but this is nitpicking.

Review 84:Lovely setting, quirky layout ...our room was in a separate bungalow in the grounds. Quality furnishings and patio doors out into gardens. Friendly staff, great breakfast

Review 85:Not a bad experience but rooms in main hotel old fashioned and could do with refurb.

Review 86:Setting beautiful. Lounge area really comfortable Staff pleasant

Review 87:We had a lovely room {37} but it did not have a window to open at night' only a French door. Also all the time we were there we never met the manager and no one ask us if every thing was OK

Review 88:The staff were all very good.

Review 89:The only thing we have complaints about was the bed, very noisy sprung base on one side of bed. I know this is a minor complaint but it did ruin our nights sleep.

Review 90:The hotel room was very clean as were all the amenities, staff very friendly, good food but the best was the location, location, location, excellent.

Review 91:Perfect location for walks and Lake. Excellent room with views from two windows. Great choice of food and top quality ingredients. Staff all very friendly and helpful.

Review 92:Restaurant food was very good but a more personal table service would have been appreciated e.g. Taking order at table and replenishing drinks. Otherwise fine.

Review 93:Very friendly staff, excellent location, plenty choice at breakfast. Nice atmosphere.

Review 94:It was fully booked for Saturday night

Review 95:Having arrived very late the manager went above and beyond nothing was to much trouble and he was a fountain of local knowledge

Review 96:Quilt was heavy and inflexible We had a hot night A spare sheet in the wardrobe would help but really new better quilts

Review 97:Location Food freshly cooked Service Lots of public space for sitting around Books and games All day service eg Tea coffee etc

Review 98:Breakfast was herendous for the mone for they money..cold selection of food non existent unless you can count tinned food..staff not helpful or friendly..just generally very poor

Review 99:Location perfect..and the room was clean..

Review 100:Shower wasn't very powerful in room 2 and bathroom was a bit dated.

Review 101:Stunning view and great breakfast. Odd that beans don't automatically come with it though.

Review 102:Food very good and not overly expensive. There is a jetty about 200 metres from the hotel and a boat that will take you to Keswick. Lodore Falls about 500 metres away.

Review 103:A lovely hotel on the edge of Derwent Water. Very comfortable bedroom and bed. Lots of storage to unpack for a couple of days and tea and coffee with good biscuits. Nice food in the dining room. Hotel well placed for local walks.

Review 104:Mid summer and heating system seemed to be on and temperature in room was unbearable. Manager did not seem to know how to reduce temping system and we were provided with a fan. Driveway entrance to hotel was in poor condition with large muddy puddles - not what was expected in a hotel of the standard promoted on booking.com . Front of hotel grounds were unkept with hotel sign overgrown with weeds and grass. Found it poor quality when evening meal order was not taken by staff at our table. Overall not great experience. Concerns were addressed by morning manager on checkout.

Review 105:Staff friendly and pleasant.

Review 106:Late-night noise from cars driving on gravel in parking lot.

Review 107:Picturesque location along lake. Convenient location from which to explore the Lake District.

Review 108:Not a huge amount of space to relax indoors if the weather is bad. No shaver points in the bathroom

Review 109:The location is spectacular, staff are great and he food is plentiful and of a good quality

Review 110:The bed was a little hard for my personal liking and quite noisy

Review 111:The location was absolutely stunning and with views of the Lake and surrounding mountains out of room windows couldn't possibly have asked for more

Review 112:Apart from the flooding outside (not the hotel's fault!) nothing

Review 113:The location, the views, the room (large and comfy) and the food. The staff were all very friendly and helpful

Review 114:We relished the peace and solitude offered by this wonderful location, with its beautiful views of the lake and surrounding hills. This was a much needed break away from folk who think only of what we can do for them and a time to relax in nature's garden for our own sake. All this in spacious comfort with friendly faces around - mmmmmore please!

Review 115:Very little to complain about, room and service were all excellent, food was good. I found it an slight oddity that, although I had booked a table, I still had to order at the bar like in a pub. But I soon got over it.

Review 116:Lovely lakeside setting, with its own trout stream, and great bird life. A must-stay for the Keswick area.

Review 117:I thought that the furniture in my bedroom was a bit motelly, although the bed was big and comfortable. The food was ambitious menu wise, but lacked a little I felt in actuality.

Review 118:The location was great, the staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 119:Room was smelling slightly Breakfast could be improved Very limited time for the breakfast Construction work was going on making noise to guests. Pillows are not comfortable

Review 120:Bathroom

Review 121:Would be nice to have a dog poo bin down near the bridge please. Thats all

Review 122:room was very comfortable and views from room 16 very nice ( though over carpark)

Review 123:Terrible breakfast Shower has no water pressure- it dribbles on you, I ave made better showers when camping! Managemnt staff very rude and agressive when complained about breakfast Dinner was edible, but average not expensive but still not good value for money at all

Review 124:Gorgeous location

Review 125:Did not like being woken at five in the morning by a dog barking in the next room! This dog was not well behaved, this has put us off returning.

Review 126:Good food, lovely views.

Review 127:There was a dog barking in a nearby bedroom which came as a bad surprise

Review 128:The atmosphere was good and we felt welcomed here, the view from the dining room window was excellent, the staff were good and very cheerful

Review 129:Everything was great about this hotel, however the "English breakfast" option might be slightly improved. We also had an opportunity to enjoy dinner in the hotel, which was great and was a pleasant surprise (after having not so great breakfast deal). But it might have been just one time thing, as overall all the food tasted great (apart from the English breakfast option).

Review 130:The hotel has a great location with a wonderful view on a lake and mountains. Everything about this hotel is great. But particularly, I would like to thank Svetlana and the whole hotel staff who were very kind, extremely helpful and very hospitable to us. I would certainly highly recommend this hotel and will be coming back soon :).

Review 131:Location- so close to derwentwater and beautiful walks nearby. Still only a short car journey to Keswick The room was large and very comfortable. Lovely experience.

Review 132:In the main building some of the furniture was showing serious signs of wear

Review 133:Loved the location, staff very helpful and friendly, room and bathroom were a good size and clean.

The Fine Print
