Reviews for Pinegrove Hotel

Review 1:The hotel is old, the room was fine, but the mattress could do with a replacement & the pillows also need replacing.

Review 2:The room was clean & comfortable for one night. The staff were friendly. We had dinner & breakfast there, both were good. Dinner was a typical pub meal, but good. Free parking was good.

Review 3:Unfortunately in need of updating still in the 70's didn't get much sleep Saturday night with noises drunks in next room.

Review 4:Great Victorian property

Review 5:One bulb didn't work, couldn't change shower attachment so water would come out of bath tap, and could feel springs in mattress.

Review 6:Easy to get to from the motorway, welcoming staff and very pleasant, good value meal.

Review 7:Stinky room, furniture very dated, it was not nice at all to sleep in the bed, felt dump. Mould in the bathroom. Staff during breakfast could not care less, breakfast itself - just edible, nothing more. And to charge so much for it - a joke!

Review 8:pet friendly and free

Review 9:It was excellent apart from the size of the TV = very small and a tea pot that poured tea all over the table at breakfast.

Review 10:Stayed in Room 18 which has had mixed reviews. It, and the rest of the hotel, was spotless and the staff greeted us as friends. A fine Victorian building with a well priced evening menu. We would stay there again.

Review 11:Breakfast took a long time to get to the table. Evening meals were good and very well priced

Review 12:The Receptionist / Evening Lady behind the bar is a real gem from Scotland.

Review 13:The room was a little dated with a number of minor repairs required, none of these caused us any inconvenience e.g cracked ceiling, marked walls, rip in carpet, shower head did not fit into cradle properly, tiny TV. The bed however, was so uncomfortable for us as very soft and creaky so we didn't sleep well and both woke up with back ache (not good followed by a four hour drive). The chairs in rooms were also uncomfortable. We stayed in the extension part of the hotel (room 28)

Review 14:Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and well laid out, decent Wi-fi, Full English breakfast was great, safe parking, Quiet at night, good shower, fluffy towels

Review 15:Breakfast was good, but not enough.. Loud music in the function suite till around 12:45am. If i had new about the music, i would have requested a room away from the function suite.

Review 16:The staff were very helpful and friendly, interior design was excellent, loved the stone glass windows on the staircase

Review 17:I rang to ask if there would be breakfast available and was told to book it on arrival only to find they do not serve any breakfasts on a Monday.

Review 18:Clean comfortable room

Review 19:The noise insulation isn't great but this is to be expected from this type of property

Review 20:Friendly staff, comfortable beds and clean room. Late checkout was a bonus.

Review 21:The hotel was comfortable to spend a night in. The staff were friendly. No loud noises and breakfast was fine. Plenty of spaces to park car. Would use this hotel again.

Review 22:The food and the dining areas were very poor. The coffee for breakfast was instant coffee, served in a tea pot, and the breakfast was barely cooked.

Review 23:The location

Review 24:It's a bit faded since I was there about half a century ago! - but definitely value for money

Review 25:Staff were first class The twin room was large, with a garden view, nice shower and facilities Breakfast was spot on for me, but some might quibble with the portion control of the "Full English We enjoyed being there and would go there again, even though grander places would not be a stretch

Review 26:you could here the other residents, getting up in the morning, the breakfast was a bit sparse, and the sausages looked like they were under cooked i dont normally write about this but iam a breakfast chef

Review 27:the hotel ive always wanted to stay there ,with once living in Carlisle been there for years, the the staff were very friendly and helpful ,it was a shame we didnt get into the lovely garden will recommend this hotel

Review 28:Advertised as Pet friendly but there was nowhere we could eat an evening meal at the property with our dogs so we had to go to a pub beer garden for a meal

Review 29:Friendly staff

Review 30:The room was old and dated & the shower mixer would only flow to the bath. This was very disappointing as my wife and I both like to shower first thing.

Review 31:Nothing we didn't like.

Review 32:Lovely clean hotel. Bit dated but comfortable. Breakfast served bit early but ok for us. Lovely choice of cereal, toast, full English breakfast and even had kippers on the menu.

Review 33:The hotel was on the bus route into Carlisle city centre therefore we did not have to use the car. There is also car parking at the hotel which gives us peace of mind knowing that we can park on the premises. Lovely breakfast served by pleasant staff, overall a nice over night stay. Would definitely stay at the Pinegrove again.

Review 34:MY HUSBAND HAS CANCER THIS WAS A TRIP TO eDINBURGH TO SEE HIS SISTER, , first I WAS ALMOST TOLD I WAS A LIAR AND HAD BOOKED DOUBLE BED , SECOND I UNDERSTOOD b&b TO FIND THAT WE HAD TO PAY £6 for a cup of tes and toast for breakfast could have gone to a hotel for that and oh yes we had to wait for nearly an hour to place our order for a meal , sorry but horrible place and bad attitude

Review 35:The food was particularly good and because we had dogs with us we were allowed to take our meal to our room on a tray. We only met one member of staff ( or the owner? ) but she was very friendly and helpful.

Review 36:Paying extra for breakfast

Review 37:All the staff where very pleasant and welcoming rooms clean and tidy can't fault anything apart from paying extra for breakfast which I think should be in with price but all in all a great stay would go back again

Review 38:Were in a room near the Disco, which went on to 12.30AM so no sleep, Hotel needs to place guests more carefully, i.e. away from noise

Review 39:Convenient location for M6

Review 40:The hotel is in a really good location. Great car parking facilities. The rooms are quite basic but have everything you need. I loved that they provided a teapot with the kettle!

Review 41:One hour wait for a starter, not on. Credit card being charged person not present while I was eating breakfast! Flat screen TV so small needed a magnifying glass.

Review 42:You have to pay for toiletries and, though we didn't need it, the TV is minuscule.

Review 43:This hotel is quite good for the price. The location is quiet, the building is nicely tended to; the staff is friendly.

Review 44:Shabby decor in bedroom (depressing). Mattresses uncomfortable, springs palpable. Poor quality bed linen and towels. bathroom needs overhaul.

Review 45:Not very much

Review 46:I found the bed a bit lumpy and not enough pillows for me. Few cobwebs on ceiling but nothing major.

Review 47:The staff were very helpful and polite. My grandson was unwell and they were very obliging.

Review 48:The pillows could do with an upgrade, they are too thin. The TV was too small and a bit old fashioned.

Review 49:The mattress was extremely comfortable and the duvet was very comforting. We had a super stay. The ensuite was nice. The lady at the bar was very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Review 50:The floors were a little creaky and the showers weren't the biggest.

Review 51:The staff are friendly and were happy to help with any requests. The hotel was only a short drive from the local football club's ground (the reason of our trip).

Review 52:Dated, loo in our room was very slow to flush and had not been empitied before we arrived. Staining on sheet, though they where clean but should not have been used. Mismatched furniture.

Review 53:Location on A6 very easy to find. Staff friendly.

Review 54:Our overall opinion is friendly staff liked our little dog very helpful about directions to city centre Room was warm adequate for a short stay clean and tidy

Review 55:breakfast not included in the price.

Review 56:the friendliness of the staff on check in and during the evening meal. The evening meal was excellent and value for money.

Review 57:Bit of a route march to our room. No lift so had to carry the cases up two flights of stairs. As we are both in our 70's it wasn't easy. Darts room and TV room were very sparse and very tired looking.

Review 58:Convenience of location. Room was ok.

Review 59:The shower was really tiny. Not enough pillows on the bed. I'm really picky and need at least two pillows to sleep with.

Review 60:A nice location and cute little Victorian hotel. We just needed a place to crash for the night. This was a great place and good value

Review 61:We didn't like the constant creaking from the ceiling above at 1 oclock in the morning then from 5 oclock to 7 oclock in the morning non stop and constant walking back and forth. We also arrived late at night after a very long journey and there was no milk in our room for a refreshment. We also stayed two nights and had room service and i mean none. No beds made no bins emptied nothing. The room was also very smelly and irritated our nose and throat we think from damp.

Review 62:The Location for us was good for what we had traveled from the south for. Far enough from town centre but close to our family commitments.

Review 63:Beef we ordered for dinner was almost leather. Bar area is in desperate need of basic repairs.

Review 64:Good location, adequate parking on site, comfortable bed and clean facilities, slept well.

Review 65:Room had a damp smell though there was no obvious signs of damp. Could benefit from some updating.

Review 66:Extremely pleasant and helpful staff, the meal in the restaurant was first class and excellent value for money. Breakfast was freshly cooked and again oh high quality.

Review 67:We were a bit too far away from evening venue our fault really and hotel would benefit from a spring clean but the beds were clean

Review 68:Staff were very helpful ordered a taxi for us and helped with the location of the venue we were going to for the evening

Review 69:Hotel rooms were very dated. Decor needed some desperate up grading. Hot water was intermediate. Landing area upstairs smelt damp and feisty.

Review 70:Location was close to town centre. Staff were extremely helpfull and pleasant.

Review 71:For this price, I would have to say everything was excellent.

Review 72:For the price paid, 45 GBP, it was a super deal. the staff were very warm and welcoming. Fiona was particularly helpful to us. She was funny and friendly and warm in her welcome. We followed her suggestions and really had a wonderful time in Carlisle.

Review 73:Fusty smell as if in need of a good airing all over Windows could be opened and thoroughly cleaned - might help Not really appealing A once grand house in need of a makeover

Review 74:The friendly staff clean and comfortable bed Good breakfast OK for a quick stopover en route to somewhere else as handy for the M6. Wonderful stain glass window half way on stairs

Review 75:The hotel was quite a long way from the city centre and shops.

Review 76:The room was comfortable with excellent facilities. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 77:Poorly appointed room. looked like second hand non matching furniture. Breakfast made from the cheapest products. For £65.00 nowhere near value for money.

Review 78:Location Friendliness of staff Clean

Review 79:staff were not very friendly and the hotel had no atmosphere came back to the Hotel in the evening and felt that you were not wanted in the bar or lounge, had to ask for milk for the room on the second day

Review 80:Walking distance to Carlisle and good parking, breakfast was ok.

Review 81:Found 2 stains of blood, burn mark and actual dirt on the sheets. The valance sheet was covered in dirt. Don't believe been washed for number of months. Breakfast was inedible, very cheap produce used. Very small bathroom, if pregnant or overweight I believe you would struggle to have a shower

Review 82:Friendly staff, car parking facilities

Review 83:Nothing.

Review 84:Old hotel, free parking in front of hotel, close to Lake District and motorway to north, east and south. Nice bar and restaurant with good breakfast.

Review 85:Shower and toilet in room poor, very small and took a long time for hot water to come through, also water stopped half way through shower. There is a small notice in shore advising this could happen, but unless you are looking for it you will miss it. Decor is best described as "tired ands needs upgrading"

Review 86:Food very good, very reasonable prices, good size portions. Staff are very friendly, and willing to help

Review 87:The first thing I noticed was the funny smell. The place smells old and dirty. Then on entering the room the bed was covered in hairs. The toilet was dirty. We had to pay £1 for toothpaste which the tube was about 2cm long. If that. The staff 'warned' me when I arrived that I 'better be quiet' when coming in if I was going out. The bed was uncomfortable. I didn't even dare eat there as everything was so dirty. I realise this is a 2 star hotel but there is no need for uncleanliness. A dog was barking in the room beside us all night. And finally their cheaper than cheap soap badly burnt my skin.

Review 88:Some of the staff were friendly. And helped us out phoning taxis and things for us.

Review 89:Although I am a pet lover, did not expect to see dogs in the hotel (apparently there was a dog show the weekend we were there). Recommend checking before booking if dogs will be staying! Only negative comment is beds could do with being updated?

Review 90:Location - we were travelling up to Scotland for the weekend, stopped over on the way up and on the way back down to Manchester. Friendliness of staff. Menu on offer for evening meal is varied and well cooked. Breakfast was really enjoyable.

Review 91:The twin room we had was a great size. It was handy when approaching the city from the south. The older part of the hotel had beautiful original features including the ceilings, cornices and fireplaces. The bar was cosy and welcoming.

Review 92:Breakfast was great, and the staff were superb. Always good to have a well stocked bar. Nice shower, spacious (if a little tired) room and in walking distance of the town

Review 93:Bed was uncomfortable. Drunk residents came in at 4am and started fighting outside our room. Hotel needs upgrading.

Review 94:Staff were friendly, breakfast was ok.

Review 95:We were on our way up to Scotland and needed an overnight stay with our two dogs. We loved the friendly and helpful staff and the comfortable beds. We decided to book for the return journey and were very pleased with the evening meal and the room facilities. Good amount of parking space and very good value for money.

Review 96:Nothing springs to mind.

Review 97:All staff were wonderful, helpful, friendly and informative - nothing too much trouble. Food was great, Hotel was clean and tidy, Rooms very spacious and clean, although close to a main road it is very quiet inside. Would certainly recommend this Hotel to family and friends - great stay.

Review 98:Breakfast could have been a bit earlier due to work reasons only.

Review 99:All the staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was good well worth the money. The room was very clean and spacious.

Review 100:Need more vegetables on the menu, including ordering vegs as a side dish.

Review 101:The interior decor was amazing with hand-painted moldings! Good advice to buy a bus pass. Great location to tour Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District. Great breakfast.

Review 102:One small niggle was the tiny TV - my laptop had a larger screen!

Review 103:Ideal place to overnight if traveling past Carlisle. Just a short detour off the M6 (Junction 43) and you're there. The staff were all extremely friendly and quickly made us feel at ease with some light banter. The room was near the rear of the first floor so no road noise at all. Very clean and stocked with tea/coffee. WiFi reception was excellent. We went down for dinner at 8 and although the meal was quite a long time coming (the staff had pre-warned us of this though) when it arrived it was very tasty, clean plates from us both! One of the best sleeps I have had in a hotel anywhere followed by a decent full English breakfast sent us off bright eyed and bushy tailed! All-in-all a decent place to stay close to the motorway exit with happy staff, good accommodation and decent food - what more could you want? :)

Review 104:There was a birthday party. With two children it is hard if there is no chance to get to sleep before midnight. I would not book that hotel, if I know that there is a venue going on.

Review 105:In general the price is OK for the hotel.

Review 106:We are partly disabled and had a first floor room, but no lift. We stayed to dinner on the Saturday night and the food was well presented but had absolutely no taste. The roast beef was tough. The fish and chips were likened to what had been stored in a freezer for a long time.

Review 107:The room was fairly clean and was cleaned on the full day we stayed there. The room and bed were comfortable. The receptionists were very good. The actual hotel layout was also good and its demeanour pleasing. Pricing was fair for the area and time of year.

Review 108:There is a carpet covering all of the floor in our bathroom, very hard to use, since we didn't want to spill water on it. I don't know about the others.

Review 109:Location is good, has a couple of supermarket nearby, close to city center. Very quiet and very clean. Friendly staff.

Review 110:Bar/ breakfast area was a bit transport cafe like needs a refurb .

Review 111:Comfortable bed and a good price Girl on frontdesk was intelligent and lively an asset to them

Review 112:Although clean sheets, quilt covers not changed prior to arrival. Flies (dead and alive) in eating area. Public rooms, bar, eating area, dartroom a bit drab.

Review 113:Friendly helpful staff Comfortable room Clean towels and sheets. Free parking

Review 114:Peeling paint/plaster on the ceiling of bedroom. Watermarks and mould on ceilng of the bay window of the dining room,

Review 115:Convenience to the city, Close to bus stop City only 5 stops away.,

Review 116:Outdated and needs a complete makeover. Small rooms. Shabby bathroom. Breakfast area makes you feel like you're eating in a boarding school. Tables were sticky.

Review 117:Wifi worked

Review 118:Children in room above using beds as trampolines and apparently jumping off beds Staff asked them to stop, but no offer of reimbursement or complimentary breakfast to make up for my discomfort. Bathroom smelly

Review 119:Location

Review 120:TV Kept turning its self off, hardly got any sleep as the noise from the traffic the room was very hot also. Carpets were dirty, also shower door didn't close properly & carpet in bathroom was smelling.

Review 121:The price.

Review 122:Second Visit, different room, TV didn't work, people in next room kept me awake until the early hours.Terrible noise every 30 mins from bathroom, and in the morning the chambermaid walked in really early without knocking, total nightmare ! Cannot believe how 2 nights could be so different ! On leaving i think the owner met me and took my key, without asking if my stay was ok, he probably knew what room i was in ........

Review 123:Nicola was one of the best Hotel Staff Members i've come across, lovely personality, smile and great at her job.First night had a lovely quiet room, great food and breakfast was excellent, so decided to return the following night.

Review 124:The only thing I. Didn't like was that the windows only had a top opening (security I presume) and being a warm weekend we would have liked them wide open, and no lift.

Review 125:Pretty well everything, the rooms were basic but I. Thought comfortable, very clean and quite homely.

Review 126:THE TWIN BEDS. BOTH had springs poking thro' which actually hurt our bodies. Please for your own sake upgrade them.

Review 127:The friendly atmosphere of the staff. The olde worlde charm of the building. The excellent breakfast with a good choice. The price was very reasonable.

Review 128:Food in the restaurant was a bit slow to appear at times.

Review 129:Excellent food and very comfortable. Staff were very polite and offered a very personal service.

Review 130:For the price we paid I couldn't say that I was dissappointed with anything, but if I was being picky then a new dart board and two decent sets of darts wouldn't go amiss. :-)

Review 131:This was an ideal location if you wanted a base in the Carlisle area. The price for the rooms was the most competitive around and we were theyfore worried about quality but we shouldn't have been. As long as you're not expecting Hilton type accommodation and facilities for rock bottom prices then you won't be dissappointed. The rooms were clean and the breakfast outstanding and the staff were all pleasant and very helpful. I was very impressed.

Review 132:Had a party downstairs. Noise was dreadful. No warning this would be the case and the toilet wouldn't flush either. Notes everywhere saying be patient with the shower as it sometimes doesn't work and boasting that they didn't provide toiletries. Really poor. Also when booked I wasn't informed it was a single room so ended up paying 20quid more, the price list in reception said the price was £55 but I was charged £58 as "the price list was out of date". Maybe take it down? Dreadful.

Review 133:Nothing

Review 134:The people in the room above us were up and moving around most of the night. The roof had no soundproofing and we could hear everything. We could also hear every time they used the bathroom, the tap was SO loud it was ridiculous. The beds were very lumpy and uncomfortable and we both had a very bad nights sleep for these two reasons. The shower had very low pressure and kept changing temperature every minute or two, so you had to constantly adjust it. I know that we didnt pay a fortune for the room, but I would still expect for the price that the plumbing wouldnt make that much noise and that the beds would be a bit more comfortable.

Review 135:The room was clean and tidy, there was tea and coffee and a kettle provided.

Review 136:Friendly staff and comfortable room and decent breakfast

Review 137:friendly owner and family member made welcome on arrival.
