Reviews for Lyzzick Hall Hotel
Review 1:All the staff were most helpful and friendly. The whole hotel was very clean, warm and beautifully decorated for Xmas To have the use of a pool was fantastic. Food excellent. It is impossible to suggest any improvements.
Review 2:Nothing.....except the floods but the hotel could not stop them!
Review 3:The staff were very helpful. Despite arriving late for lunch the kitchen organised a sandwich and drinks for us. The food at dinner was lovely and very well presented. The pool is warm and a nice extra.
Review 4:Nothing to report!
Review 5:Food and service at restaurant was awesome, spa facilities were not substantial but absolutely fine for the type of hotel, attitude and professionalism of staff was absolutely excellent, room was spacious and clean. Given free upgrade as hotel was not too busy.
Review 6:Nothing!
Review 7:The room was very comfortable. The staff were all friendly and attended to our every need. The food was excellent, freshly cooked with wonderful flavours.
Review 8:We were locked out and did not know how to get back in. Would advise anyone staying snd going to Keswick to ask for the key code as it was not left for us. Sent 2 emails of complaint, took over a week to be answered. Shower overflowed and flooded bathroom.
Review 9:My husband and I chose to stay at Lyzzick Hall for one night to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The hotel is lovely, beds comfy, food delicious (evening and breakfast) and staff friendly. The jacuzzi and sauna were just what we needed after an afternoon of walking up Skiddaw.
Review 10:This was a last minute booking & we decided to stay for the meal inthe evening which was delicious. The two ladies on reception were veryfriendly local ladies , perfect welcome.
Review 11:The grounds are beautiful and facilities are warm and inviting. The view into the countryside is stunning. We indulged in the four course dinner and it was just what we needed after a long day of driving. Delicious food and wonderful staff. Breakfast was great also. Wish we had more time to wonder the hills and experience more of what Keswick has to offer.
Review 12:Lovely location, historic property, with bedrooms and baths updated and very comfortable. Dinner was excellent, as was breakfast. Ours was just an overnight stay, but it would be a lovely home base to spend a few days exploring the area.
Review 13:No Lift. No easy chairs in bedroom, no chair to write at the desk. Bathroom fan noisy and not very effective. Shaving light did not work. Pea shoots with every meal! Needs double or secondary glazing fro condensation.
Review 14:Position excellent. All staff superb. Excellent food, but not enough vegetarian choices
Review 15:This is a beautiful hotel and it's location offer's fantastic views over the valley and on to the mountains beyond. Everything was perfect; from the fine food in the hotel's restaurant to the great care and attention lavished by the hotel's excellent staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 16:Lack of a decent TV reception especially when the TV does not have a DVD player. And no clear signs to reception
Review 17:The staff were absolutely fantastic. From the minute i arrived till the moment I left. Very accommodating. The food was amazing (except the cooked breakfast was not what i was expecting). The views were totally stunning and would totally recommend to anyone wanting to visit Cumbria
Review 18:We are a mature, but young couple. Most of the guests staying at the Lyzzick were delightful, but quite a bit older. The hotel is comfortable, but the furnishings and decor is a bit dated, giving the overall atmosphere one of a retirement home. Also, the location, although beautiful and peaceful with sweeping views, is fairly remote with access to lakes and walking paths quite a distance away. Would opt to be a little closer to some of the amazing recreational opportunities in the area.
Review 19:Owners and staff were fantastic! Most guests had stayed previously at the Lyzzick and return each year citing two things which I would parrot: (1) the owners and staff are exceptionally friendly and make each guest feel special and (2) the food - despite it's somewhat remote location, chefs source amazing fish and local vegetables and every meal was superb!
Review 20:The dinner menu was a little steeply priced for us.
Review 21:Everything was perfect, could not fault this hotel. The pool is a warm, perfect size and has stunning views. The room and hotel was very clean, large and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 22:It was disappointing that booking via booking.com it was not apparent that there was a significant discount on dinner if booked at the time of room booking.
Review 23:The food was absolutely delicious. The staff were very accommodating, particularly when it came to meal times for young children.
Review 24:Amazing views, food, facilities and staff. I have been going from being three years old with my family and I am now 25 and wanted to share what has always been a great experience with my boyfriend. He loved it as I knew he would and we will keep coming back! Just Fantastic.
Review 25:Room was a bit small and the hotel circulated a letter stating that we would have had a better room if we booked through the hotel rather than booking.com
Review 26:Excellent service.
Review 27:Staff were very friendly, dinner was superb, and nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Location was perfect and the room was very comfortable. Lovely balance - not too formal but great food and service.
Review 28:Struggled to accurately use the shower controls to get shower hot enough despite an abundance of hot water.
Review 29:great location, good food, good wine selection specialising in Spanish and Portuguese wines. Pool, Jacuzzi, sauna. Very comfortable. Great views from pool and bedroom.
Review 30:Bed was small so difficult for me, wife and baby. But that was not the hotels fault - that was booking.com not sending through the fact that we had a small baby so they didn't know and gave us a couple focused room and not a family room. All the bigger rooms were booked up due to bank holiday so we couldn't do anything. Wife and baby slept through fine - I had a couple of sleepless nights. But the friendly staff, food and amazing location compensated!
Review 31:Everything! Friendly staff! Amazing views from room, lounge and spa! Super gourmet food (only had Breakfast and Dinner but both were superb)
Review 32:Small hiccup on my last day at breakfast which was dealt with the staff very professional.
Review 33:Beautiful setting great hotel excellent staff had a great room and the quality of produce was 1st class
Review 34:The staff were so friendly & nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing with many choices & beautifully presented. Lots of lovely lounges for a relaxing pre dinner drink & coffee later plus a wonderful terrace in a lovely garden with stunning views. We loved everything about Lyzzick Hall & had a great stay. We actually only went to join friends for Sunday lunch & ended up staying 2 nights!!
Review 35:Food was lovely, but £40 for two mains is overpriced. It would be good to have another option.
Review 36:Ideal location, really child friendly. Toys in the front lounge and warm child friendly staff. Views are spectacular. I can't imagine a better location in the Lake District, 5 minutes away from a town and in between two lakes.
Review 37:The rooms were totally different from photos on website (looks like cheap inn or b&b). The price is too expensive compared to the facilities Overall - felt it was over rated and over priced
Review 38:Friendly Staff, nothing else
Review 39:Lovely accessible location - just what was required following a day's walking. The quality of the dining was exceptional - much better than I was expecting in a country house hotel.
Review 40:Nothing. A very positive experience!
Review 41:This is a luxury hotel set in its own tranquil grounds which overlook a stunning view of the fells near Keswick. The food was excellent; the staff well turned out but nevertheless we found it to be a very friendly place, in a good location with Keswick itself easily accessible by car.
Review 42:I took my wife for our 20th wedding anniversary and the staff made it a special stay for us. This is a lovely hotel with magnificent views, excellent food and very friendly staff.
Review 43:We couldn't fault anything.
Review 44:Absolutely LOVED this beautiful hotel. A luxury hotel in a stunning location!! Superb food, staff lovely and friendly, and the swimming pool was a great bonus. Would definitely return.
Review 45:No Sunday papers ! felt dining room staff slow to respond and a bit mechanical in their approach - easy to feel that staff were doing their job but not with any enthusiasm
Review 46:comfortable hotel with nice character - reception staff very helpful - nice clean and comfortable bedroom - albeit quite small quality of dinner very good and breakfast OK
Review 47:Husband would have liked a pub in walking distance
Review 48:Had a wonderful stay in this friendly well run Hotel. Bed comfy food fabulous staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 49:Friendly efficient staff with excellent customer care. The only negative (that did not affect us) is that nearly all the rooms require the use of stairs.
Review 50:Excellent hotel. Amazing views. Pool was lovely with fantastic views. All staff were friendly and eager to help. Menu is exciting and food delicious. Very stylish hotel. Excellent location, ideal for walks. Keswick close enough if you need a shop fix. Overall we had a fantastic stay. We will be back.
Review 51:I didnt like leaving.
Review 52:Hotel was perfect, staff excellent and the hotel was spotless. Food, well 'to die for' is appropriate to use in this case. I will go again... and again...and again..
Review 53:catering was a bit disorganised (kept being asked for my order after it was already given) food was okay but certainly not exceptional Sound proofing was poor so could here everything from rooms around us. Overall - felt it was over rated and over priced
Review 54:Clean and well presented and in a nice location
Review 55:It was such a hard bed, I hardly slept.
Review 56:I liked every other aspect of the hotel - the service, the incredible panoramic view from the pool, breakfast, the room, gardens, location.
Review 57:Having to return home
Review 58:This was the first time my husband and I had stayed at Lyzzick Hall, but it will not be the last. From when you arrive to when you leave you are made to feel special. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. The staff are very friendly and interactive but not intrusive.
Review 59:We couldn't fault any aspect of this hotel's service.
Review 60:Friendly, helpful staff Excellent food Comfortable room Pleasant lounges Good swimming pool and sauna
Review 61:Nothing at all.
Review 62:What isn't to like.. The customer service is 110%. Everyone is so kind and attentive. A fabulous team. The place is decorated in a lovely way and the room was amazing. We are so pleased we booked Lyzzick Hall. No other hotel would compare.
Review 63:TV not working on arrival. Replacement found for us from adjacent room. Bathroom extractor not working. Asked to be repaired. Didn't happen. Understood all rooms had views but ours was VERY much a minimal side view! Check before booking.
Review 64:Location, facilities, gorgeous food, staff.
Review 65:nothing to dislike
Review 66:The food at this hotel is to die for. The rooms are very well presented with fantastic views where ever you look. All the staff were very friendly and provided fantastic service
Review 67:Only two small grumps - first, the pillows on the bed were uncomfortable. Two weeks on and I am just getting over the discomfort. Second, the bedroom floorboards creaked in one place, but the creak was loud. Hopefully, it will soon be fixed.
Review 68:The staff were friendly and the decor immaculate. The food was superb. The setting idyllic. Lovely!
Review 69:Always enjoy the food, had the taster menu. Staff have good balance of politeness, helpfulness and informal friendliness. Amenities, room etc. always clean and well looked after
Review 70:We're not big eaters so would have liked to have had the choice of a small meal at tea time, instead of the set menu with lots of courses.
Review 71:As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a smile and chat by a lady on reception
Review 72:Nothing
Review 73:One of the best hotels we have stayed in . The staff where so friendly and helpful, and the food was amazing we cannot complain about anything definitely going back. Would recommend to anyone.
Review 74:Breakfast was a bit disappointing given the standard of the food produced by the restaurant the night before.
Review 75:The view from the swimming pool and our room - absolutely stunning! The polite and helpful staff Good Wifi in our bedroom
Review 76:At this price, I would expect cappucinos on the breakfast menu. Wifi strength is a bit poor.
Review 77:This place is a little gem and what makes it that, imho, are two key things. Firstly, the service is second to none; staff is knowledgable about the area and were able to give honest suggestions. The service at dinner is meticulous, attentive and friendly without being too intrusive. Secondly, the hotel's decor is mildly flamboyant yet discrete. It is also crisp and clean and we were told it gets a new lick of paint every year! We loved it here and got addicted to the restaruant, so didn't taste the culinary delights of Keswick much..
Review 78:I had a bottle of wine for dinner which was priced at £21, the wine that came was a very basic wine that I drink at home which costs me less then £5. (I realise this happens everywhere but was such a let down compared to the other high standards of the hotel).
Review 79:The food was fantastic, not massive amounts for my boyfriend but he loved every bit of it! Beautiful decor everywhere, the pool was quiet with a lovely hot tub. Views were spectacular. Hotel was spotlessly clean, staff were very friendly and nothing was any botherfor them.
Review 80:Our room (31) and en-suite were a little on the small side for the price, one of the glasses was chipped and the bathroom floor was not very clean. Also we could not make the water run for a bath rather than a shower.
Review 81:The hotel is in a great location with lovely grounds and great views. We liked the conservatory overlooking the garden. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was very good (though no black pudding as advertised in the full English).
Review 82:We arrived having forgotten our dogs kennel documents. The hotel member of staff immdiately and without prompt, looked at the availability of a dog friendly room. It was small things like this that made out stay extremely pleasant. Directions to local attractions/ Great knowledge of the Lake District left us with no need to hit the tourist information or search the Internet.
Review 83:Leaving!
Review 84:From the mountains and countryside surrounding the hall to the calm and relaxing elegance inside, with great food and helpful staff there really isn't anything not to like.
Review 85:Lovely relaxed atmosphere and got a surprising free upgrade when we arrived! The pool was easy to access and clean. Service at evening meal was exemplary.
Review 86:Best hotel ive stayed at un a ling time. Huge comfortable room, great staff, great food, fantastic views over the surrounding countryside and an excellent pool.
Review 87:We were greeted with what came across as a sales pitch to upgrade our room to one of superior quality, staying for one night only, surely the room we had booked for in excess of £100 should be expected to be sufficient. This proved not to be the case. The booking was for a double room when it fact it was two single beds joined together. The floor and wall contruction of the internal partitions and intermediate floors is some what minimal with poor acoustic properties. Movement from other guests could heard from all sides of the room including annoying creeks from the floor above which proceeded to reoccur long into the night. An over priced experience for average facilities.
Review 88:The location was very pleasant, picturesque, natural surrounds with great views. The premises appeared to be very grand, large scale with an inviting entrance.
Review 89:Our bed was slightly hard: but not everybody will be pleased by one bed!
Review 90:Our room was lovely with a beautiful view, we were upgraded, due to it not being very busy: a lovely policy that more hotels should adopt. The staff were friendly and very helpful, the facilities were excellent and the food was perfect!
Review 91:Restaurant food is only ok for dinner. Possibly not worth 40 quid. Has pretentions of serving fairly average food in an extravagant way.
Review 92:Good base for exploring the lakes. Surprisingly good bed and room and view and pool/sauna for the price. Breakfast was good too. Staff helpful and friendly.
Review 93:We only stopped one night and didnt have the chance to use all the facilities
Review 94:Staff are freindly and helpfull Food Room was amazing Location Everything
Review 95:Nothing - there really is no fault with this hotel. ***** Fantastic *****
Review 96:Everything !!!! We stayed here for 1 night and we really didn't want to leave. We had a standard double room with the option to upgrade but once we got shown to our room we were more than happy, the bed was so comfortable and we could still see the amazing views to the side. We had the pool/hot tub/sauna all to ourselves which was a nice treat after a walk up Blencathra. We opted to eat in the hotel restaurant as there isn't really a footpath to walk directly into Keswick but I am so glad we chose to stay in the hotel. The food was amazing, we are vegetarian but this didn't matter the options available were delicious. We had the 4 course dining menu and it really was a meal that I won't forget. The staff are so attentive and even with it being quite formal which I'm not used to at all I didn't feel uncomfortable with it, in fact it was a lovely treat and I can't wait to return.
Review 97:The food is excellent but if you stay longer than a weekend you may long for a normal meal!
Review 98:The locations is marvellous nestling as it does in the foot hills. Well within easy reach of all the local attractions and busy tourist town of Keswick. Facilities are excellent including a hot tub and cool swimming pool.
Review 99:we loved the atmosphere in the hotel. Very friendly. Stunning views at front of hotel. Swimming pool looked lovely, although we didn't have time to try it! Will definitely return!
Review 100:We have stayed at the Lyzzick on five occassions now. It never ceases to please. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The bedrooms are very comfortable and spacious. If you have the opportunity to sample the 7 course tasting menu, you are in for a treat. We would certainly recommend the Lyzzick Hotel to friends and family.
Review 101:Wonderful friendly staff. Stunning location and beautiful food. The hotel itself is luxurious in a traditional English style without ever being pretentious. Our room was spacious and light with a spotlessly clean modern bathroom. Straight to the top of my list for our next weekend away !
Review 102:The room a standard double was small for the tariff charged.
Review 103:The food was delicious with good choice both breakfast and dinner. The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. The views beautiful.
Review 104:No morning papers!
Review 105:The staff - nothing was too much trouble The food and service just excellent, the tasting menu was terrific Accomodation - the room was lovely and clean We will return!
Review 106:Spent 3 nights at the Lyzzick Hotel with girlfriend, room was very clean, with a large bathtub and queen sized bed. Staff was extremely friendly, always there to help with a smile. We were staying on bed&breakfast, breakfast was excellent, plenty of choices of food. The hotel has a heated indoor swimming pool with jacuzzi and sauna, which we loved, most of the time it was only the two of us in the spa. The hotel's location is good, only a 5-7 mins drive from Keswick town centre, we used Davies taxis to get to the centre and at the end of the day back to the hotel. We would definitely recommend the Lyzzick and would go back in a heartbeat.
Review 107:Could be more food on offer. Although the al a cart menu was delicious we ate out a few times for variety. We knew the hotel was renowned for the taster menu so maybe offering different food would spoil the overall experience
Review 108:Hotel was lovely food was delicious facilities fab we would def go back. We also were offered a free room upgrade
Review 109:Very comfy welcoming hotel. Staff were fantastic, room very comfortable with good wifi in room. We had a great night sleep, which is unusual for me in a hotel. Food was fantastic, very high quality. Will definitely go back!
Review 110:My wife and I had an excellent stay at Lyzzick Hall, our room was well appointed, comfortable, and clean and we had a beautiful view. Staff was friendly and helpful. The best place we stayed our trip across England -- only wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 111:We chose this hotel because of the pool facilities. Once we arrived we found that the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The slightly out of town location meant that we had an excellent night's sleep and that there was completely unspoilt views out over the Lake District.
Review 112:We had a terrible time finding the hotel because we couldn't enter the road on our GPS nor the postal code. We had to stop at the information center in town to ask. It's not close to anything and the restaurant was VERY expensive and limited for dinner. We did without any dinner. The hotel has a lot of stairs, even two to the bathroom!
Review 113:The grounds and hotel are lovely. We were upgraded to a beautiful room.
Review 114:Unfortunately waiting to be served got longer and longer over four days until the last evening meal was spoilt by taking 2 and quarter hours being overtaken by people coming in later. The manager seemed puzzled when we drew this to his attention.
Review 115:Lovely setting - swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi, quality of the food
Review 116:Being reprimanded for asking for a glass of prosecco, told it was "a Spanish restaurant". I assumed I was in the Lake district! I meant no offence - perhaps it was said as a joke but I didn't take it as such. I got some cava instead.
Review 117:lovely pool and view of the fells. Excellent food, and attention to detail by all staff. welcoming atmosphere. a late supper was available for me as I had been to the theatre.
Review 118:Our dinner selection options were not clear enough. The dinner is 4 courses with a two course option, which we did not find out about until after our meal.
Review 119:We had afternoon tea in the garden to enjoy the view. The room, although it did not have a grand view, looked out on the herb garden which was lovely. The windows opened in the room which was fabulous. Fresh air and good sleep go together! The breakfasts were great, with many options available.
Review 120:nothing negative
Review 121:On entering the hotel after a tiring day walking we were greeted by a very pleasant receptionist who seemed genuinely nice, nothing was a bother. We were directed to a very nice room. Nothing outstanding but very nice. However when we went down to the bar for a drink we began to see what an understated gem this hotel was. We sat out on the terrace with our drinks and enjoyed the most fantastic views. There was something about this hotel that was worlds away from the run of the mill chain hotels. In the evening we ate in the hotel. There was a set price for a 4 course meal, of which I have to say we both really enjoyed and have told our friends about on our return home. It was a little formal and did alarm us a little as my husband only had taken jeans to wear on our trip away. However the staff paid no attention to this. After dinner we were encouraged to go into the lounge for coffee. It was just perfect. In the morning we went for a swim before breakfast. We were pleased to find a very clean pool and hot tub. The views from here were also unbelievable. I started speaking to a couple who had been coming for the last 20 years. This did not shock me as myself and my Husband can`t wait to book up again!!!
Review 122:Ummmmmm??????
Review 123:The food was brilliant (I am a trained chef), try the 7 course taster menu. WOW. The staff are exceptional a great mix of friendly and professional. Everything spotlessly clean. You felt welcome and not crowded. They wanted you to enjoy yourself and boy do you enjoy it. I will return!
Review 124:Everything was superb, from the moment we arrived. Lovely room with beautiful view, staff were so switched on and made you feel very welcome and comfortable. The meal we had was will never be forgotten, amazing! Pool was an added bonus. Have recommended to many friends and family and hope one day to come back.
