Reviews for Kingswood & Devoran Hotel
Review 1:Booked a rear - facing room which was reached by a warren of corridors and was a trifle noisy from staff movements, garage etc. below. The food was of a reasonably good standard - no more. The shower cubicle was of a minimum size. Would have welcomed a friendlier reception upon arrival. An unnecessary re - positioning of car in car park after one night.
Review 2:Pleasant vestibule, lounges and dining room. On the whole the staff in the Dining Room were polite and helpful.
Review 3:Shower in the room wasn't that efficient. Shame about the budget sausage when the rest of the breakfast was good.
Review 4:Location & staff were very good. Breakfast was good apart from the sausage which was budget
Review 5:the location of the hotel right on the sea front and the sea facing room made our stay very enjoyable, the food was excellent and great value for money
Review 6:Hotel on seafront but close to shops and services. Room small, but very well designed (by a woman, obviously!) with lots of practical storage space. The bedside lights were excellent for reading.
Review 7:The hotel was too hot! We had booked a room with a sea view but it was so small, we opted to change to a room at the back which was much larger and cheaper
Review 8:Breakfast was very good, beds were comfortable.
Review 9:Not really a bad experience, but once or twice the hot water in our bathroom ran rather cool - possibly due to large demand from other guests
Review 10:Generally extremely pleasant and helpful staff, and a good, relaxed atmosphere. It is very likely that we shall stay there again.
Review 11:Nothing
Review 12:Excellant location, very pleasant hotel, We found the staff to be very helpful and polite and the cleanliness of the hotel was excellent. The breakfast had a great deal of choice and was very good.
Review 13:Put in a small back double room on first night which we didn't think reflected the price we were paying but when we complained to the receptionist she quickly sorted it out and we were given a much nicer room
Review 14:food &friendliness
Review 15:Lovely room, decorated well, good impact as you open the door. Reception staff helpful and friendly, as were all staff. Food well presented and good quality. Good options for me as a veggie.
Review 16:The room was cramped and the balcony was not easy to get to as there were two chairs on it lovelyand the door was difficult to open enough to get onto the balcony .
Review 17:The location, the willing staff and the convenient parking
Review 18:did not have time to stay longer
Review 19:friendly staff and lovely welcome could not do more for me and very kind to my mother who visiited, loved the idea of welcome tea to get to know other guests too important if you are on your own
Review 20:Parking facilities limited. We ended up having to street park, as you may imagine on the sea front that is also limited.
Review 21:Location, complementary tea in the afternoon on the terrace. Husband enjoyed ability to choose fish for breakfast.
Review 22:Parking was not great but we did find a space on the Espinadeboth days.
Review 23:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the staff were excellent efficent and friendly. The room was good although quite a treck (we actually thought it was fun going through the various corridors after the first time). The beds were very comfortable. It was lovely to sit out the front watching the sea with a coffee in the morning.
Review 24:The service was excellent particularly the dining room staff and the speed of service. The room had everything you could need and was well set out and really clean.
Review 25:Bathroom far to small , uncomfortably so. Parking tight .
Review 26:Convenience to town centre , excellent attentive staff , excellent breakfast and beverages available at strategic times of the day .
Review 27:Small room, very small bathroom, tiniest shower I have ever been in. When compared to similar properties I have stayed in at this price felt it was overpriced. That said when fully booked on an August Bank Holiday weekend I understand the pricing but felt it didn't offer value. Breakfast was ok but in 2015 OJ from concentrate, toast not toasted and quality of ingredients could be much better.
Review 28:Fantastic lady on reception who was funny and very helpful and got us an 11th hour taxi on Fireworks Night. Staff generally very pleasant.
Review 29:A regular double bed is too small for us. The room [215] was fine but the bathroom added into the corner was much too cramped and not a relaxing place to be. All the staff were great except for one man who appeared to be running the dining room and was abrupt and condescending. He just kept repeating "All right?" and "No worries", repeatedly.
Review 30:The location on the sea front is excellent. The lady on the front desk was very friendly and helpful - perhaps the best I have met in Sidmouth and I have stayed in several hotels/bnbs there. The waitresses were very smiley and friendly too.
Review 31:The overall experience was great. The accommodation is comfortable and spotlessly clean. The staff were special. Every one of them went out of their way to help us. They are a great team and take huge pride in their hotel.
Review 32:Just one little niggle, only 2 tea bags in our room, although you can get more from reception, just didn't fancy getting up and dressed to go down.
Review 33:Fantastic location. Very warm welcome upon arrival very helpful staff. Our room was fantastic, very clean and comfortable made even better by the sea view. Lovely breakfast. Very enjoyable stay, wish we had stayed longer.
Review 34:One if our party was situated on floor 3 and was too far from the rest if us. One if our party was a 14 year old and only wanted toast for breakfast and we asked twice for more toast for her but we did not get it. We only had one rack for 5 of us.
Review 35:Everything
Review 36:Too Many stairs to our Bedroom, on the top floor. a maze of stairs, we got lost trying to find our way to reception. bedroom needs upgrading very tired
Review 37:Close to the sea, and Resturants
Review 38:A lovely location opposite the sea, relaxing and staff very kindly. The breakfast was also great. If they had had any deals which would have reduced the price of a second nights stay, then we might have stayed for another night.
Review 39:Seagull noise in the morning. Nothing about the hotel
Review 40:Fantastic location, were greeted my a warm welcome from reception staff. We booked a sea view which was more expensive but worth it, we were on the top floor on the end of the building so we had two windows which was good.
Review 41:Breakfast - door to breakfast room / restaurant locked shut until breakfast starts at 8am. , so a queue builds up outside and then everyone rushes in. If we'd had known this, then we would have gone down later.
Review 42:Fantastic sea front location, lovely friendly staff.
Review 43:Nothing!
Review 44:Good old fashioned values at this hotel. Staff are attentive, efficient and friendly. Food was delicious. Had a balcony room- (& fabulous weather!) wonderful views.
Review 45:Seagulls, doves and pigeons very noisy and woke us up at 5am!
Review 46:The location of the hotel (although rooms at the rear of the hotel don't have a view). The breakfast was very good and the staff very attentive.
Review 47:Staff member rude marched husband out of dining room as he arrived 30 seconds early for breakfast, then put him at a table at the back of the dining room.
Review 48:Good location
Review 49:The lift. Made a loud ringing noise. Perhaps to alert old folks - a lot stayed there.
Review 50:Nothing was any trouble to staff. I forgot to tell them I needed soya milk in advance but they sorted this out immediately and remembered for breakfast without reminding. All staff smiled and were friendly. They could not help you enough. Very pleased.
Review 51:Parking is a major problem but is the same for all the hotels on the Esplanade.
Review 52:Staff were friendly and extremely helpful to all guests, many of whom were elderly. The rooms were comfortable, the food very good unfancy, well cooked with fresh vegetables every day. Dogs were also welcome.
Review 53:a bit of noise at night from the next door bar down below, but that was more than compensated for by the wonderful sound of the sea.
Review 54:Very friendly efficient staff Sea view and balcony - paid a bit extra for this but worth every penny. Could happily have spent the whole day watching people on the promenade and the changing colours of the cliffs and sea.
Review 55:The seagulls were a nightmare. My mother lost her ice cream and was left just holding the cone!!! No negative comments about the hotel whatsoever. Will come again.
Review 56:We liked everything about our stay. The room was spacious with a fabulous sea view and the beds were extremely comfortable. The staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was plentiful with loads of choice. Parking was available at the rear of the hotel at no extra charge which was a bonus. Location couldn't be better for the town and local amenities. Facilities for disabled people catered for extremely well. Lift access to first and second floor although not large perfectly adequate. Our bathroom was large and had a disabled shower with grab rails and a low toilet and wash basin. The twin bedroom was spacious allowing for plenty of room for my walker and for me to get around. The view was to die for and to go to sleep to the sound of the sea was absolutely bliss. We basically liked everything about the hotel and cannot give any negative comments whatsoever. It was the best hotel we have ever stayed in and we would love to visit again). (hopefully soon
Review 57:The bar and hotel closed at 10.00pm!! Lack of car parking unless you can find a space in one of the local pay and display car parks.
Review 58:Clean hotel with friendly staff and situated right on the beach
Review 59:I couldn't get the wifi to work but it wasn't a problem
Review 60:Everyone was so helpful and particularly welcoming toy granddaughter. Nothing was too much - I just couldn't fault the service!! Thank you!!
Review 61:Lack of parking on the final night but it wasn't a major issue
Review 62:What can I say , hotel was perfect in every way, Rooms, staff, food , enjoyed every minute.
Review 63:potato and leek soup perhaps wires erected from hotel or mesh to control seagulls so many people had food taken off them and the mess on seats clothing children frightened and elderly.
Review 64:relaxing in room watching sea and people also down stairs and friendly staff
Review 65:Bed a little hard
Review 66:Nice room, spotless and comfortable, bathroom excellent. Breakfast was wonderful, fruit salad very good and really good choice of main breakfast. Staff helpful and very pleasant.
Review 67:Rooms quite small for the money. Our breakfasts were basically cold served on red hot plates. Cooked food had clearly been standing around for a while before serving. Half a slice of black pudding, a tough leathery piece of bacon, solid fried egg and unpleasant sausage
Review 68:Location ideal. Friendly staff.
Review 69:The bed was on the very firm side. We didn't realise that we could have asked for a mattress topper. This we found out when we mentioned the bed during check-out. But that was down to us not asking rather than a shortcoming of the hotel.
Review 70:Fantastic staff, very friendly and hospitable. Clean rooms and beautiful sea view. Great breakfasts :) It made for a lovely weekend break.
Review 71:we had a faulty tv, but the hotel set up a tv room for us and offered us a different room which we took up.
Review 72:the friendliness and politeness of any staff"
Review 73:Concrete pillows. Parking (although not the fault of the hotel) can be a real problem. There are unrestricted spaces along The Esplanade in front of the hotel but Nick Clegg has more chance of becoming PM than you would have in getting a convenient parking space.
Review 74:We wouldn’t normally stay at this sort of “grand” hotel, generally preferring smaller more interesting venues. The lady at reception couldn’t have been more helpful and generally the staff were very welcoming. Our room..109 (at the back of the hotel) was a bit of a disappointment in that it was dingy with dirty windows. Big enough and recently decorated but still not inviting. However there was a kettle and tea/coffee etc a TV,DVD player and plenty of storage space. The toilet / shower room was clean and modern although a little cramped. Breakfast was good and plentiful with lots of choice. Sidmouth itself is a gem of a town with a fair selection of pubs and restaurants.
Review 75:Sparkled it was so clean, beautifully maintained.Couldnt be a more pleasant seafront . Very comfy to be in too.Staff very helpful sorting out minor hitches with warmth and purpose.Nice lunch venue too.Didnt try the evening meals so cannot say about those.
Review 76:A little bit too quiet in the bar/lounge for our tastes. Maybe a little bit of quiet music or maybe TV. We were going to spend the night in the bar on Wednesday but it was so quiet that we had to go next door to Dukes. but that's a minor quibble and may not apply to the majority of the guests.
Review 77:The room was comfortable and warm. The staff were friendly and helpful. There are a good variety of breakfasts available including fish which is not available everywhere and I enjoyed that very much. We had a good stay and will certainly consider you again.
Review 78:The wifi is patchy but I believe it is due to be upgraded over the Winter.
Review 79:The hotel is pleasant and welcoming. Dinner and breakfast are good. Complimentary coffee and mints served in the lounge after dinner.
Review 80:Minor issue, earliest breakfast is advertised as 8.00am could've late for some but I'm Sure fine for holiday type guests
Review 81:Stayed here a couple of times I guess not a business type of hotel but then I prefer that. Very friendly staff, excellent, served, breakfast.
Review 82:Excellent location Friendly and caring staff Dietry needs met, loved breakfasts Balcony overlooking the sea Little touches like DVD player in room
Review 83:Room and shower a little on the small side, but fine for the one night we were there.
Review 84:Lovely breakfast, staff very friendly and happy to be of assistance. Nice lounges/bars with sea views.
Review 85:Bed was very hard and needed a mattress topper
Review 86:Location close to shops, restaurants and beach walks Staff were very helpful and kind Amazing view from our large room Hotel warm
Review 87:Rooms far too hot even with no heating on. Had to have windows open all night but still too hot then got noise from street below which gave a disturbed nights sleep. Bathrooms very small but adequate and clean.
Review 88:Location, friendly staff, good breakfast.
Review 89:My only issue was with the shower - had trouble keep it in the holder.
Review 90:Staff lovely. Breakfast excellent. Nice atmosphere. Room was cosy and lovely for our one night. Everything lovely and clean, room, linen and towels.
Review 91:WiFi although advertised did not have sufficient strength even in reception area. Should set up a single WiFi 'hotspot' area instead of trying to cover all the hotel
Review 92:Free morning coffee and afternoon tea Good menu choice changed daily Helpful and friendly staff
Review 93:poor room for the money booked a premier room and could not swing a cat around in it. dirty tray on arrival. saff lacking in understand in making drinks. order pimms no 1 on numerous occasions it never came the same twice running only turned up correct once with mint in it. Member of staff rude to mr julian. waitresses at breakfast not attentive and possitively adverted me twice. Lift was requested not to be used between 10.30p.m and 7.30am as we never came in until 11.00 and with a heart condition this was not good as we were on the 3rd floor. the bar was closed at 10.30 so you would have to hurry back from a meal in order to get a drink. The kingswood and devoran could learn a lesson from the royal seven stars in totnes because there premier rooms at the same price are far far superior and their staff etc etc.
Review 94:location Jane their receptionist was a delightful lady and the hotels best asset.
Review 95:Found the bed alittle uncomfortable.
Review 96:The hotel looked inviting, staff very friendly, food ead good quality and presrnted well, really enjoyed are stay would recomend to others
Review 97:We would have preferred a bigger room but that obviously was up to us. Also we felt like we were the youngest people in the hotel...apart from the staff!! Not any fault of the hotel but just the time we came away I suppose.
Review 98:Staff were excellent. Situation of hotel was brilliant. Food was good but not excellent. Hotel was clean.and a good 3 star.
Review 99:Nothing.
Review 100:Although situated on the esplanade with direct sea view very quiet location. Good location for walking along the coast. Very friendly staff. Parking needs to be pre-booked, but there is also on street parking for free available. Single room was spacious, but Wifi did work only in bar/lounge.
Review 101:There was nothing we did not like.
Review 102:The position on the wonderful Sidmouth Esplanade. The very well trained staff. The public rooms which were spacious and peaceful.
Review 103:Location was great, had a room with large balcony and sea view. Staff were very helpful which made a difference as I have a disabled son. Food was good and reasonably priced.
Review 104:I'm struggling to think of anything I didn't like but if I was attempting to be constructive with any criticism then I would say the amount of stairs from second floor to third floor for my mum was a small drawback what with being 83.
Review 105:The Staff were very accommodating and friendly, always on hand to help and went out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable and relaxing.
Review 106:Bedroom a bit small, especially the single room booked for my mother but had everything we needed.
Review 107:Great location, friendly & helpful staff and private parking
Review 108:For the price we paid, for a superior sea view room, the room was on the small side, quite cramped for two people, and not as pictured on the booking website.
Review 109:Being next to the sea Helpful staff Delicious breakfast Afternoon tea and cake included Comfortable bed The bar and sitting area Sidmouth
Review 110:I have stayed at the Hotel several times and was given a lovely single sea facing room which was clean and did not feel cramped. The food was excellent with plenty of choice and quick efficient service. The Hotel was busy as it was the Bank Holiday Weekend so I could not have a car parking space but managed to find a free one on the road close by.
Review 111:Main objection as an elderly couple was lack of car parking facilities which became a nightmare.Saw the manager without any practical help but blamed Booking.com for saying car parking was available. At one point had to leave the hotel at 7.45a.m. to move the car to a new place.
Review 112:Food was good.Found we were up in the roof in a very small room overlooking the roof tops of Sidmouth.Still very pleasant and the last room available for a Bank holiday weekend.
Review 113:we arrived booked in the receptionist gave us the keys didnt know where the rooms were left us to find them on opening the room to a double room with see view the room was 155 a night it was the smallest room we have ever stayed there wasnt enough room to hardly walk around or put thing we had to put suitcases on bed ,nightmare on goig down for breakfast looking at seating plan for 5 mins only to be told at 8-15 no room until 9 when half empty very poor for my wifes birthday treat
Review 114:view
Review 115:Booked a standard sea view double room, first night we were in a so called compact double (not what was booked)but would class the room as a large single. Staff very helpful, moved to a larger sea view room next day (this should of been from day one)
Review 116:Location, helpful staff, service, food
Review 117:We wanted to have a drink in the bar but found that it closes at 10.30pm which for a hotel bar is something we have never come across before. Although being on the sea front was lovely our room was at the very top and suffered from constant shrieking of gulls all night, which made sleeping erratic.
Review 118:The hotel was very comfortable spacious and had wonderful views the staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 119:Shower was very small, room also very small. WIFI did not work very well.
Review 120:Location is amazing, right on the waterfront. Great extras available in the room. Excellent breakfast.
Review 121:The size of the room we were given was very very disappointing when compared with website pictures. The room was very small!!!! Bathroom was so small you had to dry off after shower in actual room. The mattress had seen better days, on the side nearest to the windows, you actually felt that your legs were going up hill. NONE of the curtains closed properly, hence letting light in far too early in the morning. dirty great big stain on wall. Actually ruined our stay, which, happened to be birthday present for partner. We stayed in room 210. After being offered a different room, just as small, managed to receive a small refund, but would never stay again.
Review 122:The view, breakfast was nice. Receptionist very helpful (sat 16th Aug)
Review 123:TV signal prone to break-up
Review 124:Seafront location Friendly, attentive staff Excellent food Contemporary decor in traditonal building Facilities all work, including strong WiFi in public areas
Review 125:The entry on booking.com says 'free private parking is available on site'. In reality parking is only available if they have spaces so I feel the entry would be more accurate if it read 'free private parking MAY be available on site subject to availability'. I had to pay an extra £8.50 to park in a public car park. The staff made up our beds for the next guests whilst we were at breakfast. This made us feel very unwelcome and that we could not even sit on the beds or pack up our bags on the beds when we returned from breakfast. It gave the impression they couldn't wait for us to leave.
Review 126:Lovely location, Good breakfast. Free tea and cake in the afternoon was a nice touch as was the personalised welcome letter left in our room.
Review 127:Shower in my single room was a little cramped. However it was clean, with instant hot water, so quite a minor issue really.
Review 128:Great location, on the sea front in the centre of town. Friendly staff.
Review 129:We liked the locality of the hotel enabling a short walk to the shops and a leisurely stroll along the seafront. The relaxed atmosphere of the hotel and the efficient and helpful staff made our stay particularly enjoyable.
Review 130:The pillows
Review 131:Location, meals, ambience
Review 132:We had a lovely sea view room, on the small size but adequate for a comfortable night. Lovely breakfast and friendly staff
Review 133:Very small room, with a very small ensuite.
Review 134:Excellent staff. Fantastic location.
Review 135:Beautiful sea view, comfortable hotel, staff who worked hard to make guests happy.
Review 136:Room and its facilities were a little on the small side
Review 137:Sea View and customer Service was excellent!
