Reviews for Angus Hotel
Review 1:We woke the next morning to complete darkness as unfortunately the flooding in other areas had caused power failure to a lot of Carlisle. We were therefore unable to use the shower. The toilet being the only one in the Hotel on a shredder system, which is electrically operated, this being unknown to us the bathroom flooded when toilet was flushed, . This room was also right on the junction with traffic lights outside window. I would advise anyone staying at this hotel to request not to stay in room 5 and if you are unlucky enough to stay during a power cut, do not expect any reduction on your bill as apparently it is an act of God.
Review 2:When we arrived it was a cold wet night (night of the flooding). Room was clean and tidy and beds reasonably comfortable. Breakfast was cooked and served by candlelight and good considering the lack of power. No flooding in this particular area at all.
Review 3:Due to the flooding we had no electricity . Got no breakfast in the morn as there was still no electricity didn't get a call from owners saying that there was no breakfast ....
Review 4:Said in passing to gentleman who checked me in that I didn't see the sign for the public car park until my 2nd time around the block as initially I was looking for a driveway. He immediately launched onto the defensive saying, "we have never advertised as having on-site parking". I had to explain that i didn't say that he had, just that I had assumed there was somewhere to pull up until I saw the sign.
Review 5:Very good value for room and breakfast. Cooked breakfast was high quality. Hotel was clean.
Review 6:I didn't like the sausages or mushrooms but my husband ate them instead :-)
Review 7:It was far enough out of the town centre to be away from the noise but close enough to walk into town. Immaculately clean, really comfy bed (great pillows) and huge room. The lady who looked after us was lovely.
Review 8:The Hotel is a little further out of the centre of Carlisle than we are used to, but this is hardly a criticism as we knew the location before we booked. Quite a long, although pleasant walk into town.
Review 9:The cleanliness and comfort of the bedroom and en-suite, and the lovely breakfast, beautifully presented. Although not a modern house, the property has a well kept, fresh feeling to it. Extremely convenient, free, off street parking available.
Review 10:Shower didn't really stay warm and was incredibly small. Beds not very comfortable.
Review 11:Very lovely clean room and owners are incredibly nice. Great breakfast choices!
Review 12:Shower was not as powerful as would have liked but this is a a minor complaint!
Review 13:Location is excellent, staff are lovely and extremely helpful. Immaculately clean and delicious breakfast served very quickly in the morning.
Review 14:my colleague and I went out for evening meals as the menu was very limited and the food had to be ordered in advance. it has a lovely little restaurant and its a shame its not open all the time and the menu extended. if I had been on my own I would have found this very inconvenient
Review 15:the room was immaculate and very well appointed also the free wifi was fast
Review 16:Staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. It all seemed to have been grilled and there was no grease left on the plate when you had finished.
Review 17:there was road construction which made it difficult for us to find the hotel. it would have been nice if they had warned us and given us directions. they didn't have a family room for 5 so we had to pay for 2 rooms.
Review 18:we liked the free parking. it was quiet. it was a bit of a walk but we were able to walk to city center.
Review 19:Good friendly hotel in a nice part of town. The owners are very friendly and cannot do enough for you. The room was very comfortable and very well located. The breakfast was lovely with good quality produce. I had dinner one night at the hote and that was really good.
Review 20:This is our third stay . The owners are friendly and efficient. It is ideal for Sands Center and Bitts Park events. Pre theatre dining would make it even better .
Review 21:We stayed one night at The Angus on our way to Scotland. Really enjoyed the hospitality and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was exceptional and the little pub over the road is fantastic.
Review 22:I was not happy with booking.com's system. You choose a booking that offers double or twin room but doesn't allow you to stipulate which. I booked thinking they were twin, arrived to find they were double rooms but travelling with friends this DID not work. It therefore cost me another hotel room for the extra person so cost masses more. Not happy Booking.com! Was told you stipulate under 'special requirements that it was to be Twin. No where on your website could I find that this was what I should have done and special requirements to me are things like physical or dietary requirements. It cost me sorely and could be so easily sorted on your website.
Review 23:Not private parking.Floors a little creaky but in an older property is difficult to stop. Smallish double room but nice shower room.
Review 24:Clean and tidy if a little old fashioned ie carpets decor etc. Very comfortable lounge. But the proprietor gave us a very warm welcome and couldnt do enough for us.
Review 25:nothing. It was all good
Review 26:Very warm welcome. Room and bathroom very clean and cosy. Breakfast good lots of choice, cereals, fruit, yoghurt and variety of cooked breakfast. It is only 10 minute walk to city centre. We timed it. Would go back
Review 27:Nothing !
Review 28:Rachel is so accommodating , friendly and kind. Would never stay anywhere else in Carlise. Beautiful comfy rooms , warm and cosy. Feel very relaxed and at home in the Angus . Would recommend to all . I have stayed here twice . Once as a sole traveller and once with my 3 yr old great niece. Cannot recommend highly enough .xxx
Review 29:It was very cold when I arrived in the room as the heating was switched off, it took ages to warm up as only a convector heater. Had to keep the heater on all night which was noisy. Bathroom was also freezing but couldn't get the heater to work. Shower is "eco" which means the water comes out mainly with air and it takes 10 minutes longer to shower as there is not much water coming through when washing hair- so not sure how eco this is.
Review 30:Location convenient to where I had meetings. Good hearty breakfast. Parking permit from hotel to park at permit parking car park up the road.
Review 31:According to my wife the toilet smelt, though it did look clean with evidence of attention before our visit.she has a good nose I could not smell it, I have a poor nose
Review 32:Walking distance to the town
Review 33:My Sister accidently dropped her wedding ring down the wash basin. We asked could any one help The owner of the hotel (8.15pm) removed the waste pipe with some difficulty Thankfully he saved the day !!!!! Our stay was perfect. A HUGE thank you to staff

Review 38:on arrival the gent that dealt with me was very polite, and very helpful with directions to where I wanted to go in town that evening even giving me a map. the bedroom was immaculate and comfortable. breakfast was excellent with a good selection
Review 39:double twin room, meaning there are two beds in the double room, one of them slightly bigger, but still rather small for a couple. Mean shower!!! cooked us for no reason!!
Review 40:almost everything! Lovely staff, beautiful room, nice and easy environment, breakfast was very good. Highly recommended.
Review 41:Perfect for a weekend break, excellent location not too far from the city centre, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Staff very friendly and the breakfast was excellent. Can't fault anything,
Review 42:The television was too dark and was in need of adjusting. The pipe from shower to shower head leaking so a loss of pressure.
Review 43:The little bit of difference that other hotels do not provide. A teapot on the tray instead of putting tea bags into a cup. Shampoo and shower gel in dispensers in the shower. Double glazed windows that actually open easily. A waitress service for breakfast instead of a buffet that sometimes the food is not always hot.
Review 44:The hotel is spotless, I mean spotless. It is so fresh and tidy, it was lovely. Lovely breakfast, and really helpful and efficient check in and out. Great value. It feels like a big guest house but there is a pub right on the other side of the road if you're not quite ready for bed. Well done
Review 45:It was difficult to get the luggage up the stairs. The ensuite in our room was tiny with the toilet wedged between a wall and the shower. The room was very stuffy. The car parking is down the road.
Review 46:The breakfast was very nice and the service was prompt and efficient.
Review 47:Not much to dislike other than some noisy bird life nearby!
Review 48:The location was great with an easy walk into town. The room was clean and the ensuite well appointed with all you could need. Plenty of hot water! The hosts were very efficient and booked us in quickly.
Review 49:Lack of a ramp at the front of the hotel and a lift inside was a slight inconvenience.
