Reviews for Central Hotel Gloucester

Review 1:Refurbished hotel, good standard, central location with tea making facilties, microwave, fridge, crockery, cutlery. Across the road from shopping arcade with Costa Coffee handy for breakfast and WHSmith for morning paper.

Review 2:The only downside was TV volume is set very low, could only just hear it, I understand if it is too high you might upset other guests, but the level it was set at is ridiculous,

Review 3:Spotless, comfortable, excellent mini kitchen,

Review 4:The only 'issue' was a lack of parking.

Review 5:Very clean, comfortable room. Friendly staff, check in and check out was extremely straightforward as well. Great stay all in all it was a pity I didn't stay longer!

Review 6:We had early morning check in because of medication I take.on arriving which was 4am.we found the doors locked,so I phoned the hotel number who said I will get night porter to open door and check us in we waited half hour and nobody come,so I phoned again,I was told same thing I will get in touch with night porter eventually he came.after getting checked in I asked if my car would be OK outside because I keep wheelchair in boot and we are both disabled with disabled badge.i was told the car would be fine but that evening I got a ticket.we also found that some of the staff were unfriendly type.we run out of toilet paper and tea coffee etc because none was left one day.

Review 7:The room was spacious and lovely and clean, and one of the best features was the size of the TV,because when ever we have stayed in hotels the TV is tiny.

Review 8:Separated taps for hot and cold water - it's 21st century

Review 9:Hotel up to European standards, except two taps in bathroom. But you can't have everything ;) Very friendly and helpful staff on reception - THANK YOU. Good standard of bathroom, bed mattress and room facilities. Very clean room.

Review 10:There were some half-flights of stairs en route to the room and the room itself is pretty small and narrow. The check out time is also quite early at 10am, although there was clearly not that many guests in the hotel. They charge you an addition 20 pounds for a late check out at 1pm.

Review 11:It was a short 6 minute walk from the Gloucester train station and is quite near to some shopping. The room had a fridge and a microwave. The internet connection was decent.

Review 12:Incredibly hot even with the radiator off. Memory foam mattress a little hard fir my personal taste.

Review 13:The room was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean.Fantastic value for money and well located right in the town centre.I would stay again.

Review 14:Fire alarm going off. False alarm. Staff dealt with it quickly

Review 15:{clean and very comfortable although did not use the microwave it is an excellent addition. Easy to find from bus and rail stations.\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252 {\fonttbl\f0\fnil\fcharset0 .SFUIText-Regular;} {\colortbl;\red255\green255\blue255;\red0\green0\blue0;} \deftab720 \pard\pardeftab720\partightenfactor0 \f0\fs34 \cf0 \expnd0\expndtw0\kerning0 \outl0\strokewidth0 \strokec2 }

Review 16:Shower not very powerful but okay in general (this is my personal opinion as I prefer powerful shower) and ventilation seems not working in the bathroom, didn't ask front desk as it was late night time.

Review 17:Perfect location, room very clean and in good size, bed is very comfortable, soft & superb bedding, harbour view, breakfast excellent.

Review 18:Bed was small the fitted sheets were small for the bed and kept coming off. TV positioned at funny right angle. Came home early with a Migraine because of it.

Review 19:Clean room. Microwave, Cutlery plates and glasses and fridge made it easier.

Review 20:A lovely room including a fridge and microwave. Very clean and tidy throughout. Spotless bathroom with gorgeous shower. Would definitely use again. Great location in the centre of town.

Review 21:I booked a double room and was given a twin room with the beds pushed together and with no explanation. The beds were so low to the ground they were uncomfortable as was the ridge betweenb the two beds. I was also in a room on the first floor and on the bus stop side and as a result was awwake from 5am every morning due to the nosie. A very poor experience

Review 22:Location and value for money

Review 23:1) The hotel reception - was very basic, almost as if one one was stepping into a student Hostel - though that wasn't a big issue to us. 2) no phones in the room for us to contact reception or house keeping. Basically if you wanted anything, you had to practically go downstairs to reception to get what you want. Like how when the light bulb in our bedroom lamp burnt out, instead of being able to call house keeping, we had to go downstairs to notify the reception who promised to bring us a new one within the hour. He didn't show up at all and left us waiting. 3) No amenities other than soap and towel. But the shower had a problem as the water temperature was low and fluctuated between hot and cold every few minutes. The room was also very cold as the heating was not working. So we asked to change room for the next day. We were located to room 110 which had no window other than a small panel for ventilation on the ceiling, however this room was warmer and the no windows situation didn't bother us. 4) Breakfast was disappointing.

Review 24:1) Situated right at the heart of Gloucester Town center, and was the closest to GL1 Sports center which was just about 8 minutes walk away, so it was very convenient. 2) The room had modern, new furniture and fittings, and at first glance it looked almost more luxurious than Holiday Inn Express. Interestingly, each room had a microwave, tea and coffee making facilities, fork and knives, and plates provided. I thought it was a rather nice touch. The beds were comfortable. 3) The bathroom was spotlessly clean. 4) I would return to this hotel - purely because the rooms/ bed were modern new / comfortable, the price per night was quite reasonable, and proximity to the town shops.

Review 25:being kept awake on Friday until 1.30am and had to get dressed to see what all the noise was.It was what he called himself the nightwatchman setting up the conference room for a tribute on sat night . moving chairs and setting up the large room . echoed throughout the hotel. ridiculous . first room we were given had no shower control as it was missing so we were moved to another room.

Review 26:location

Review 27:Shower didn't work because cold water pressure intermittent and shower kept going hot and cold every 30 seconds No One to complain to on check out as reception not manned at 10 am Buildings surrounding hotel very run down virtual slums with rubish and old furniture piled up outside

Review 28:Room clean and tidy Guy on reception very welcoming

Review 29:The price for being in town. The fact that you unwittingly pay up front on a website that is renouned for its 'pay when you get there/leave' motto . The fact that should you need to cancel as circumstances change, means you lose your money without question and then see it advertised for someone else to pay top whack, the same room paid for twice! Oh what a mistake to make.

Review 30:The decent sized room. The suitable facilities and distance to town and amenities great.

Review 31:Original windows are beautiful but don't stop much noise at the weekend in the early hours.

Review 32:Large, clean room with large, comfy bed. Fridge, microwave, big TV and lovely little shower room. Whole building was well-maintained.

Review 33:The lack of parking at the hotel and the inability to have dinner or breakfast on the premises but I was aware of those matters before I booked. The trouble with parking is that your car has to be on the road or in an open air car park in a poor area of town.

Review 34:The room was a good size and the facilities were excellent with a fridge, kettle, cutlery etc which made it possible to have breakfast in my room.

Review 35:Lack of breakfast facilities. Advertised cafe good walk away into town centre

Review 36:Refrigerator and microwave in room as well as usual tea making facilities and central location

Review 37:Noisy neighbours at 4.30am from a next door room - this kept us awake for 15-30 min then went to bathroom and the extractor fan in the bathroom was too loud as it didn't turn off for a very long time. Lost one hour of sleep.

Review 38:Location is very central, room nice, clean and spacious.

Review 39:No onsite bar or restaurant. Poor view.

Review 40:Very clean, looked recently refurbed. Comfy bed, fridge and microwave in room. Quiet despite central locatIon. Ideal for night out in Docks area.

Review 41:Understand parking difficult in centre and car park convenient close by but availability of a dedicated limited parking space to drop off luggage would greatly facilitate use of hotel

Review 42:location close to centre

Review 43:It was very noisy with the buses outside our window. The room was also too hot and difficult to cool down.

Review 44:Location. Right in the heart of Gloucester. Good to have.microwave and fridge.

Review 45:Room small and fittings very basic - little space for clothes and no shelf in bathroom for toiletries. No restaurant, bar or lounge. Room not comfortable to sit in. Expensive for what is basically a 2 star hotel. Poor internal insulation - intrusive noise from neighbouring rooms. Atmosphere more like that of a hostel than a hotel.

Review 46:Good location for places we wished to visit. Pleasant view over roof tops to distant hills.

Review 47:The 10a.m. checkout time, especially on a weekend was ridiculous. I was given the opportunity to pay an extra £15 to checkout at a time which is the norm at other hotels. This place should be classified as bedsits and not as a hotel, as it has none of the facilities of a hotel and would be expensive at half the price. Also, no discount for town centre car park as advertised on website.

Review 48:Comfortable bed and cleanliness. Location.

Review 49:No towel rail or hook behind door in bathroom - life is easier if everything is not on the floor. Rooms are opposite bus station, which started operations around 6am each day! 2nd night, an alarm went off in the shopping centre behind the bus station around 5am; 45 minutes before anyone turned it off. Sadly foam mattresses felt well worn, with dips. Only children slept well.

Review 50:Clean and modern room. Good staff at reception, location in town centre also handy.

Review 51:It was clean tidy modern comfortable liked having facilities such as fridge microwave tv kettle crockery and cutlery shower nice and large thought staff were extremely helpful polite and warming

Review 52:Left my phone charger in the room which I discovered 2 days after I had checked out. Nice to find the cleaning staff had put it into lost property and so I got it back. Thank you.

Review 53:We were in Gloucester for my son's Graduation. The location was great. The rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable. Would stay again. Thank you

Review 54:The only downside is the parking. Apparently hotels can issue passes for parking but I don't know if this hotel does so we had to get up earlier than preferred to go feed the meter. Other than that there was nothing to dislike.

Review 55:The staff were welcoming and when we asked Ryan for another chair for us we were pleased to find that it had been placed in the room while we were out site seeing. We liked the full sized fridge, microwave and cutlery, crockery etc. We hadn't intended to eat in the room but we were so tired after a long journey plus our excursions that we did not fancy going out so enjoyed a takeaway in the room.

Review 56:The manager she was rude and when she double booked us she would not refund the money so paid twice for 1 night

Review 57:Rooms are nice with microwave and fridge

Review 58:This hotel is very clean, modern and comfortable. There was everything that you would need for a very pleasant stay. The staff were friendly and helpful..

Review 59:Great location near centre and value for money (had a deal). No parking on site but £3 a night parking nearby. Would only suggest a map to show where parking is on the website and on the desk.

Review 60:Very little left me wanting. If anything, I'd have liked to stay more nights to justify the use of the comfortable room.

Review 61:The location, the cleanliness, the facilities, the room itself - all top notch for the sub £30 price I paid. And so quiet for such a central location. Even the room doors were dampened so they didn't slam and disturb myself and others (admittedly a personal gripe). Couldn't have reasonably asked for more. A very happy customer here.

Review 62:When we tried to check in we were told that we were going to have to check into the Cheltenham Hotel, however this was quickly resolved.

Review 63:The facilities and cleanliness of the room. Quality of bed linen and bathroom towels. Size of the flat screen television. Quality and cleanliness of the fridge and microwave. The ability to pay for a late check out time.

Review 64:I found it quiet but I suspect that's because I was lucky in getting a room at the back. I did have noisy neighbours but they were quiet after I pounded on the adjoining wall.

Review 65:The location and the amenities in the room (microwave, full fridge, plates and cutlery as well as the usual kettle etc).

Review 66:The TV volume would only go up so far. I can understand that it is possibly so that you do not have it too loud and disturb other guests, but I found it very difficult to hear the TV, and I have perfect hearing.

Review 67:The room was immaculately clean, nicely furnished, very comfortable mattress! The fridge and microwave in the room was an ingenious idea and both used.

Review 68:Far too noisy as no double glazing, and no privacy due to lack of blind or net curtains. Shower alternated between boiling hot water and freezing cold water. Very dangerous!!! I got slightly scolded,if it had been a child it would have been worse. Reported it to reception.

Review 69:Very central for shopping areas and quay. Reception staff very friendly.

Review 70:The mattress was quite soft and got very warm as it was a memory foam mattress.

Review 71:The location is ideal for walking around Gloucester. The room was very well decorated and furnished with microwave, kettle and fridge and looked modern.

Review 72:there is nothing much not to like, though mattresses could be more supportive. at the moment they are too soft, so one falls in. it is ok for one night but I have felt pain after a few nights.

Review 73:clean and tidy, great location, great facilites in the room

Review 74:Central location, very convenient for the train station, bus station and plenty of parking (NCP) close by. 10/15 minute walk to the cathedral area and the Docks. Simple, no frills room but spotlessly clean and with everything you need.

Review 75:Didn't like getting up by 7 to put more coin in parking space

Review 76:Excellent location and price. No breakfast available but wetherspoons next street. Yum.

Review 77:Absolutely Nothing to Dislike

Review 78:This hotel was outstanding and for the price in the centre couldn't fault it , would recomend this to anybody and we intend to return to the central in the future.

Review 79:Checked in later then planed, night staff were perfect, answered all my questions and happy to help with parking issues. Room was super clean and everything was spotless and also worked 100%!

Review 80:third bed was a sofa bed parking is 5 minutes away (public parking) relatively noisy (poor window isolation) no breakfast facility in-house

Review 81:centrally located easy access room was large and comfortable free wifi

Review 82:Microwave in room, slight smell someone previous had eaten Indian meal from it

Review 83:Comfortable, Clean, Fridge in room. Perfect Central position. Very cheap

Review 84:The parking is poor unless you have a disabled badge when you can park outside the front door.

Review 85:We liked the location for being in the city centre and access to the local facilities. We liked the rooms and the ability to self-cater if you wished.

Review 86:Didn't like the 10 o'clock check out, midday would have been better

Review 87:Very clean, efficient check in great "central" location perfect stay

Review 88:Bus stop outside window, could hear traffic

Review 89:Clean, super close to train st and bus st. Nice to have fridge and microwave in room. Good shower, comfortable.

Review 90:Another bedside table would have been great. I also wasn't sure why they phoned me twice to confirm the booking.

Review 91:The room was a really good size, and well decorated. Spotlessly clean.

Review 92:Was likely subject to a bit of price gouging during Rugby World Cup given it was a small hotel in rural UK; certainly wouldn't have paid near that much for a normal weekend visit to Gloucester.

Review 93:Good location, clean and comfortable as promised. Free wi-fi and referral to good breakfast.

Review 94:Expensive on this occasion (as were all hotels in town) because of the Rugby World Cup.

Review 95:Appeared to have been recently refurbished - to a good standard, including new bathroom. Our room included utensils and appliances for some self-catering..

Review 96:except where they had taken a panel of wood off by the desk to get to the effluent pipe and then left it off, not something we wanted to see

Review 97:All was good ,good staff, clean, comfortable bed

Review 98:A little road noise but this is to be expected in its location. Also being new to the area it was difficult to find on foot from the car park which wasn't as close as I expected

Review 99:A clean and comfortable room with the extra advantage of the kitchen area.

Review 100:No room service 10 am check out no late check out unless pay 15£ which sounds wrong and no ventilation to the room last the bed and sofa are totally uncomfortable

Review 101:The location is great

Review 102:Lack of handrails on the entrance steps, and the front doors need a power button to open for people like my wife who have knee and shoulder problems.

Review 103:Nearness to buses and trains.

Review 104:If I could suggest one thing, it'd be to add some shelfs, particularly into the bathroom. Could be useful. Otherwise the room is very nice !

Review 105:What a great surprise to have this comfort at this price ! And the staff was pretty nice. I highly recommend that place.

Review 106:The shower temperature oscillated between pleasantly warm and chilly.

Review 107:Stayed on a Thursday in October. The room was clean, quiet, warm and the beds were comfortable. Staff were pleasant and efficient, both in person and over the phone. Great location, only a couple of minutes walk from the train station and the city centre. Tip: The NCP Bruton Way car park is £3 (for 24h) cheaper than the one they suggest on the website and is only 2 mins walk away. Also, the entrance for both car parks can be a bit of a pain to find, so use Google Street view before setting off.

Review 108:Old building, modern inside with newly done rooms, comfy bed, large ensuite, nice sheets and towels. An American style m/hotel, no lounge or foyer or restaurant, but microwave, kettle, fridge and crockery so take your own micro-waveable food or eat out nearby in the city centre. Good value for money. Hairdryer and TV as well. Walking distance from the railway station, pay+display parking opposite.

Review 109:Big noise, and some other guests caused trouble.

Review 110:I booked it for my friends, this is their experience. It is in the centre of Gloucester, many possibilities for cultural and entertaining programmes. You can have a trip around because the bus and railway station are near as well. The room was fantastic, the staff is kind and nice.

Review 111:The notice outside until about 3am didn't help sleep in a very hot room (heating was off). Touch lamp at bedside didn't work. Walls very thin....

Review 112:Very central to City and Docks.Staff were helpful in giving directions to both

Review 113:As an ex-Gloucester person, the hotel was an excellent example of the revitalisation of the city. The hotel managed to look both long established and in peak condition at the same time - most impressive and terrific value for money.

Review 114:Got a bit of a shock to be asked for photo I.D. I didn't have any with me so that was a bit of a stress moment. Worse still, England were losing to Wales at rugby on the big screen in Reception while waiting to check in!

Review 115:Very helpful staff, really comfortable bed, new decor and cool size shower - what's not to like?

Review 116:It was very noisy at night during my stay.Maybe due to the fact the place was very close to the pubs and bars, and it was the night Wales won the rugby match against England

Review 117:The room was nice, clean and had a microwave which is very convenient

Review 118:Room was small but adequate and hot due to having to close window due to noise, but it was Saterday night and Wales had won at rugby.

Review 119:Newly refurbished hotel so clean and comfy. Hotel located in centre of city, which was great but also of course noisey. Car park nearby was cheep, £3 for 24hrs.

Review 120:Comfiest bed I've found in any hotel. Really clean. Lovely en suite. Great tv and wifi was quick. Receptionist was really friendly. Would highly recommend!!

Review 121:Rooms with Windows facing shopping centre, Windows closed but sound still v loud from late night revellers and we were on the third floor.

Review 122:The closeness to the train station. Also cheap parking nearby, £3 per day.

Review 123:The place is still having teething problems as it is newly opened. Staff very friendly and helpful, but not really very good at what they are doing.

Review 124:Located right in the centre of the city, its perfect for a tourist visit. Rooms are clean and well-equipped.

Review 125:Very poor customer service on arrival. Bedding had not been changed since previous occupants - sheets soiled and covered with body hairs. Staff busy, so at 11pm had to request spare bedding and changed the bed ourselves. No apology or recognition that this was unacceptable - i.e. the room hadn't been serviced during changeover of guests.

Review 126:Central location, near train station. Appeared to be going through a refurbishment.

Review 127:That there isn't any parking. Paying roughly £140 and I couldn't even get money off parking for staying in the hotel.

Review 128:Everything was lovely & I was able to get my key before actually going into the room as I needed to be somewhere.

Review 129:Parking was a little awkward in the shopping centre multi-storey car park

Review 130:Central location, excellent facilities in the room including kettle, microwave and cuttlery/crockery.

Review 131:No breakfast facilities on-site, although directions to sister site were provided

Review 132:Room was clean, well maintained, and quiet. Staff were friendly and well mannered.

Review 133:Receptionist was rude, argued with me over id, even though it doesn't list anywhere you have to bring any The room was across the road from the main bus station and they ran until 11.30pm starting again at 6.30am. Unbelievable loud, and of course bus stops attract noise from people. After 2 nights of no sleep, I had to move hotels as couldn't get another room. Was still more preferable than attempting another nights sleep in the room assigned to me. For business stay, I just wouldn't bother. The hotel and interior are fantastic, but location spoils ot

Review 134:The rooms were nice

Review 135:We had a car which made unloading to check in a bit difficult, no designated parks nearby. Also, some people may find getting bags etc up all the stairs.

Review 136:Nice to be able to self cater in a hotel ie microwave with crockery etc

Review 137:Right next to the desk a piece of wood had been ripped off to expose the soil pipe, wasn't something we wanted to see, it should have been covered up.

Review 138:It was in a good location and the room was basic but clean, just what you need for a one night stay .
