Reviews for Dalston Hall Hotel

Review 1:We had no negative experience at all during our stay. The only things we marked down were the cleanliness as we had a large cobweb running across the ceiling (in fairness only visible with the lights on) and the breakfast, which could have been a little better (maybe optional extras of porridge, poached eggs, and kippers for example. Even as a paid extra)

Review 2:Friendly, approachable staff. Well presented and maintained facilities. Character but not caricature. Relaxed environment.

Review 3:We thought we're in the wrong place when we arrived. First glance of the building seems like I don't want to get in coz looks scary & Haunted house .

Review 4:Once we get inside our room was amazing & immaculate ... The steak we ordered was superb ... Massive ....So yummy

Review 5:Bathroom.

Review 6:The splendour, the room size the staff, the dinner.the only small dimple was the bathroom, which was not in keeping, scored more a 6/10 as apposed to the rest which was 10/10.

Review 7:Bedroom too warm. Taxi to local village rather expensive. Would be great if the hotel offered courtesy lift.

Review 8:Food was excellent and above expectations. Jo, member of staff, was exceptional.

Review 9:I thought the hotel lacked 'soul' In the public rooms. Fine for a big wedding I'm sure but big and 'empty feeling' otherwise. There was nobody to help with the bags and no lift. The receptionist did offer but would have struggled.

Review 10:The food at dinner in the restaurant was as good as I have tasted anywhere.

Review 11:Hotel photo graphs. Are few years old. And it lacks a ambience. Around the whole hotel Very dated interior with good dated exterior. £185 for junior suite. I've paid this amount for a lot more value and quality.

Review 12:The. Visual appearance on the outside.

Review 13:Rather dark and dreary interiors. Probably authentic Victorian but rather unattractive. Particularly the limit grounds seemed more set up for weddings

Review 14:Nothing in particular. Everything OK but not particularly cheap.

Review 15:The wifi could be better.

Review 16:I very much like the building it's very unique and like staying in a castle, the staff are very helpful and professional and the food is brilliant especially the breakfast.

Review 17:I had booked a twin bed room but that meant it was a long way from the stairs for my disabled husband. In future I would book a double bed room

Review 18:The beautiful house and décor. Everywhere you looked there was something really beautiful. The décor in our room and bathroom was very very good

Review 19:The menu was the same over 3 nights and wasn't very exciting eg Two choices of parfait/pate: duck and chicken as starters with smoked salmon as a third, gave a poor choice, also the salmon was thickly carved. Similarly, two desserts with cheese as a third choice.

Review 20:Excellent heating and house wine.

Review 21:the menu was very limited. There was no vegetarian option and it was very expensive for the quality and service we received. There was minimal members of staff therefor service was very slow.

Review 22:The bathroom was very nice bs clean. The bed was very comfortable

Review 23:For 180 pounds a night with the dinner, I expect to have a meal that I would enjoy, I was offered steak, but only with pepper sauce, I asked for a mushroom source and they checked with the kitchen and I was told no only pepper sauce, I asked for vegetables and I was told no vegetables, the meal arrived with a large mushroom! if they are not capable or willing to make a mushroom source out of a large mushroom ,milk and cornflower then they should not even be running a kitchen, and there were only three people in the restaurant including myself, the steak was cooked correctly but with no taste in the meat at all, I could have been eating a piece of carpet, obviously I did not eat all of the steak I left half.

Review 24:The hotel was in a pleasant surroundings, and it was comfortable.

Review 25:Friendly staff, lovely setting, awesome food, no complaints at all. Staff couldn't do enough. Will be staying again, might take a few friends with me next time..

Review 26:View of factory in the distance may be a bit off putting in the summer months but actually looked ok lit up in the dark !!

Review 27:Quaint , old exterior and interior but our room was modern luxury .

Review 28:A little too quiet!

Review 29:A nice setting. The food was good. Compared to other hotels in the area, this is a good place to stay. Room 5 was certainly different being up in the tower.

Review 30:Dinner service abysmal. Had to ask for the wine list thrice. Only two couples in the dining room, yet waitstaff nowhere to be found.

Review 31:Beautiful accommodations Delicious food

Review 32:Limited wine list as no half bottles though house wine (only one by the glass) was ok.

Review 33:Friendly staff, good food and a lovely building. Bathroom was a bit dated with paint peeling off in spades, though was clean.

Review 34:The dinner menue was the same few covers each night. By our second night we had exhausted our choices. The third night we ordered from the "all day bar menue" only to be told that if it was a busy night we wouldn't be able to order. However they would take our order. From asking for the menue and getting our food it was just 2 hours! it did make us feel a little second class and that we should be greatfull we even got served. Our 3 night stay with food etc cost about £750. I'm sure there's lots of other local hotels that would give us better service next time we are in the area.

Review 35:We were in the junior suite, it was a little overpriced for the area, but still a good sized room. The dinner menue although very limited was good and value for money. A good selection of wine.

Review 36:very quiet indeed. clearly recovering from a large wedding but this in no way diminished the charm of our welcome and service at dinner

Review 37:a very short drive from the M6 brought us to this haven of calm. Excellent staff made for a delightful overnight stay. Delicious dinner

Review 38:The lounge area although a lovely period room was sparsely furnished but this is nit picking!

Review 39:A comfortable character hotel with excellent modern bedrooms. The staff are friendly and attentive, the service excellent. The food was magnificent and well priced.

Review 40:Asked for quiet room got one with kitchen extractor fan outside. did stop at 10.30 after complained restarted 8am. Pity as lovely room but wouldn't market it as superior.

Review 41:Meal in restaurant excellent Recommend steak!

Review 42:I waited over 25 minutes trying to check out. After ringing the bell too many times to mention, no one came, so I left without seeing a soul. 2 weeks later I still haven't got my invoice. This made me late with my onwards journey.

Review 43:The room was of a good size, slept like a log, so the bed was perfect. The food was good and plentiful. The service during the meal was very attentive.

Review 44:view from restaurant over Nestle factory not good. Suggest a barrier of trees to block view. Showers in rooms would not regulate properly, only hot to very hot!!!

Review 45:Rooms excellent. Nice quiet rooms Food in restaurant excellent Reception and breakfast staff excellent.

Review 46:We had to leave eventually

Review 47:We had our wedding reception there and it was awesome. Dalston hall made it brilliant. The rooms were lovely. Food excellent and staff helpful. It felt really special.

Review 48:Too dark and dingy inside although the dining room was light and airy. Gardens could do with an overhaul although there were some lovely trees.

Review 49:Very comfy beds and lovely bathroom. Excellent breakfast.

Review 50:The whirlpool bath did not work and you were charge for having a bottle of your own wine (£20 corkage) in your room

Review 51:The room and the breakfast was excellent

Review 52:Staff were very attentive

Review 53:Everyone was really welcoming....the owner was really great and the food was very good. Recommend the steak...!!

Review 54:Breakfast was disappointing.

Review 55:The room was lovely and the overall feeling of the place was really nice. Dinner was delicious.

Review 96:nil.

Review 97:quiet comfortable . Food excellent.

Review 98:Was a tad expensive

Review 99:Great grand place Huge room Great bed Great bath Yum breakfast Helpful and friendly staff Beautiful gardens

Review 100:We stayed in a tower with all the mod cons. Our own private entrance up the tower stairs. The food was fabulous and the service amazing.

Review 101:Being offered the turret as a room when we had booked well in advance

Review 102:The meals were top class

Review 103:The hotel is extremely nice in beautiful surroundings. The staff were all extremely pleasant and welcoming.

Review 104:Very rude and unhelpful manager with lots of attitude which has clearlyworked its way down through the staff. So sad and unnecessary. Food youexpect to be pricey at a venue like this but lack of attention to detailand like it or lump it attitude made it overpriced for what you got andthe manner in which you got it and what you got. Such a shame. Not agood way to finish what was a fabulous weeks holiday up to that point.

Review 105:The setting of the venue in the location.

Review 106:Very hot room with unreliable wifi connection. The first point perhaps reflects the age of the hotel, but the second is not good enough in today's e-world.

Review 107:No internet in room; was told we should have found "tower" but that if not someone might have disturbed to router in that room. Piano music playing when we arrived; at dinner time horrid modern music and when I asked whether something could be done, I was told they had no authority to change and that was considered relaxing for the evening - not for us it wasn't. Poor choice of wine by the glass - one white and one red. The red was French but no indication of the type of grape in its make up. Funereal decor in the dining room - black napkins and table cloths. No pepper mill - one was eventually produced but was not left with us for the meal. My friend's sparkling mineral water was poured from an opened large bottle and was somewhat flat. My main course, rack of lamb, was extremely fatty; hers was better. No indication as to where breakfast was to be served next morning. Breakfast adequate but nothing to write home about. Coffee particularly disappointing. I asked if there was a French press/cafetiere and was told somewhat frostily that the coffee was fresh. However, it was not good. Generally the grounds looked neglected.

Review 108:Comfortable and well equipped room.

Review 109:No heat in room or bathroom until 6pm - even then it did not come on. Complained 3 times ( it was a cold day) and was variously told the system couldn't be overridden, it was an old building which took 2 days to heat up, use the blower heater in the room ( no use when you are asthmatic). Eventually offered a change of rooms, had to repack and porter would deliver luggage to the new room while I had dinner. He delivered it to the wrong room! Having originally checked in mid afternoon, I eventually was able to unpack at 9 pm. Large plastic bucket to catch drips from leaking roof in breakfast room. Black napery in restaurant and breakfast room very gloomy. Limited cold breakfast choices but very good cooked choices. No offer of paper or wake up call at check in, no interest in how my stay had been at check out.

Review 110:Very comfortable beds, rooms beautifully appointed and exceptionally clean. Lovely location and friendly, and for the most part, helpful staff. Restaurant meals - probably the best rib eye steak I have ever eaten, albeit expensive. £26 for the steak alone, anything else - salad, veggies - was an extra £3 per serving. Excellent wine list and good house wine. Tower room up circular stone staircase very atmospheric. Good cooked breakfast and quick check out. Help readily available to get luggage down the narrow staircase. Lovely setting for weddings and permanent marquee to house larger weddings being built.

Review 111:There were very few staff around. One young man who seemed ro be responsible for registrarion, showing people to their rooms, serving behind the bar and wairing on tables at dinner. The young girl assisting at dinner was also present at breakfast. Both were very friendly and competent but seemed a bit overwhelmed at times. Dinner was much later than we had booked, though waiting in the bar was fine, we were very hungry when it arrived.

Review 112:Loved the small, country club feel of the hotel. The small number of rooms makes it feel more like a private club than a hotel. The rooms themselves are very comdortable and characterful. The food in the restaurant is consitently excellent - all our party loved their dishes. Although service was slow, it was worth the wait!

Review 113:Pool table in reception area, enormously understaffed, no one on reception at check out time. The receptionist that checked us in then served us dinner too. Overrated and overpriced.

Review 114:The building was nice.

Review 115:Restaurant closed 8.45pm and felt bit rushed and thought food bit over priced, enjoyed our stay but very pricey for stay and food. Staff nice but felt I was holding them up from getting to bed!!

Review 116:Breakfast was lovely, bed and linen very nice . Nice location

Review 117:Service at breakfast was slow and had to wait for a long time at reception when checking out.

Review 118:Building has character and reception staff were friendly and helpful when checking out.

Review 119:would like to see a snack menu or tapas/meze type small menu for smaller meals in the evening.

Review 120:room beautiful. breakfast great, staff lovely. nice feel to the place.

Review 121:The peace and quiet. The friendliness of the staff and the service. We had dinner which was excellent but a bit expensive as this was a special occasion we did not mind.

Review 122:The Superior Room, was described as being "more spacious than a standard room", but it was not a particularly large room at all, and although there was a granite/marble bathroom with spa bath, from a size perspective the Superior Room supplement was not justified. Some of the fruit at breakfast was sour.

Review 123:The hotel had good decor throughout. A very friendly and relaxed environment, with extremely proficient and attentive staff. The bed was very comfortable.

Review 124:Fabulous hotel, beautifully decorated. The bedrooms where so comfortable and luxurious. The food was amazing. Such friendly staff, defiantly worth a visit, excellent all round

Review 125:nothing

Review 126:We stayed before and liked the hotel a lot. We find the facilities, rooms, food as of the best standard. We stayed at room No1. Jacuzzi with stars sparkling from above in our bedroom was amazing. Very clean, comfortable, warm. It was nice to have their house champagne which is (you probably cannot believe) Louis Roederer. Much enjoyed.
