Reviews for The Horseshoe Inn – RelaxInnz

Review 1:There were no mattress covers and only the one sheet on the bed. When multiple people use a bed it's unhygienic to have to lay on a mattress that other people have perspired on.There should be a proper mattress cover that can be removed for washing regularly. I did convey my issue to the lady proprietor when we left. There were also hairs from the previous people on the bathroom floor and our towels weren't changed for the second day.

Review 2:It was close to the friends we were visiting, not far from Eastbourne and Battle and nice and rural. The breakfast was very good and hot and a good choice aswell.Views towards the Observatory were advertised on the site but we only overlooked the car park.

Review 3:They couldn't help me with food for evening meal due to being a vegan as they didn't have a chef and weren't very helpful. They didnt have fresh coffee. The towels where stained.

Review 4:Breakfast was fresh my husband loved his, I had toast and beans mushrooms and tomatoes.

Review 5:The room was very cold, not heat. Also could have done without the vulgar loudmouth at the bar. The bar tender should ha e thrown him out.

Review 6:Clean, nice staff.

Review 7:Our bedroom floor was vibrating from loud music which continued till nearly midnight on Saturday and more music Monday night , Would have been nice to be informed there would be loud music .

Review 8:Good location and heating.

Review 9:The room was not cleaned properly during our four day stay. There was no food available when we arrived late Sunday afternoon.

Review 10:The breakfast was good. We did not eat other meals there, so cannot comment on lunch or dinner.

Review 11:Not a dislike, would like breakfast to start a little earlier, by the way breakfast very good.

Review 12:Been there twice now and staff very good, value for money

Review 13:no extra blanket had to ask for heating to be turned on. bar was cash only this could have been mentioned when checking in only found out when wanting a drink before bed. room was pretty sparse no ph ect. when we missed a pick up was told by one person no phone book! (thank goodness for next person who was far more helpfull)overall quite disappointed.

Review 14:location and outer appearance was great

Review 15:Due to a wedding going on downstairs it was like a disco in our roomtill Midnight which I really didn't appreciate the night beforea 26km run.

Review 16:I was running a Spartan race 3.5 miles away and was really happy at howclose the hotel was, especially as I booked so last minute.

Review 17:Not a major issue but when we returned at just before 10pm on the Sunday, after a long day, the bar was closed and the anticipated "night cap" had to be water.

Review 18:Staff were friendly and helpful, the food was very good.

Review 19:Nice room but looking a bit tied, needing a bit of a rethink. The leather chairs looked old bar chairs, a two seat settee at the end of the bed would fit better and TV unit that matches other furniture.

Review 20:The for poster bed was very large and comfortable, the staff were polite and helpful.

Review 21:The place is in need of attention. Bed springs coming through the mattress , rotten windows, general upkeep and grounds needs improving. The evening Chef did not wear the correct clothing, the food was cold and it was served on cold plates. The breakfast was excellent, a different Chef. Many things require more thought and attention which would make a big difference.

Review 22:The location is excellent. Ollie (?) was excellent he certainly tried hard doing everything, reception, waiter and barman. Certainly a character and we wish him well.

Review 23:Staff attitude/noisy bouncy castle outside bedroom with lots ofscreaming kids/steep stairs to get up to room with heavy luggage andno lift/restaurant not open - only limited bar meals/left after1 hour but hotel refused refund saying its down to Booking.com.AWFULExperience very unhappy!!!!

Review 24:Nothing

Review 25:We stayed in room number 7. We asked for a closer room due to My Husbands disability but were told no other vacancies. Room at the top of a steep flight of stairs then up another level. Room tiny. Large kitchen extractor right outside the window room filled with smoke. Door outside in corridor needs to be seen too as BANGED loudly whenever anyone went through.

Review 26:staff were very friendly

Review 27:The bedroom wasn't clean dust on all the furniture. Some of the lights didn't work. No fruit at breakfast

Review 28:Breakfast was nice, the bathroom was clean

Review 29:The younger staff on arrival and during dinner were a little 'deadpan' but nevertheless it was useful to have a late dinner in the bar/restaurant. More 'mature lady' on duty at breakfast very jolly and helpful both mornings we were there.

Review 30:The location was very convenient for where we needed to be and it was value for money.

Review 31:Not able to sleep until 12 midnight due to wedding disco room vibrating until 11.30. Definitely wouldn't have booked had I known. Disco next night also but not as loud. Place superficially clean, but badly in need of a deep clean and refurb

Review 32:The breakfast was excellent.

Review 33:Rooms not clean enough. Pillows smelt! Noisy plumbing stains on furniture, carpets and breakfast tablecloths. Cooked breakfast very average.

Review 34:The historical building and the fact that is was near to our appointment that evening.

Review 35:Dinner was average at best ... my steak and ale pie had some hard, overcooked (burned) chunks of meat and several lumps of gristle, plus the mashed potato was supermarket pre-packed. The TV kept losing signal which meant i was unable to watch any thing. Cooked breakfast was one of the smallest I've had.

Review 36:Location was good for my work committments.

Review 37:Bathroom was a bit of a mess - dirty and missing grouting, towels were grey, not white, and well used. Bedroom was very small, barely room for 2 adults. Would not want to spend more than 1 night there. Expensive for what it was (£74).

Review 38:Our welcome, after we had found someone to book us in, was very good (one person on duty is just not good enough!). Free parking was good. Breakfast was good.

Review 39:Male bar staff cocky. Very poor evening meal, dirty menu. Rooms too small and walls too thin. Decor outdated.

Review 40:The breakfast was good, let down by making your own tea.Breakfast staff good.

Review 41:The bed was lumpy and we could feel every spring. The hotel is next to a busy road and doesn't have double glazing, so the traffic noise was loud. This woke us up early.

Review 42:Friendly staff and olde worlde character

Review 43:wifi signal was poor, and kept disconnecting. furniture in room very tired and dated, but functional.

Review 44:room & bed was clean, bathroom and shower clean, food was very good and plenty of choice at breakfast. Good location for main route to Eastbourne. Good value for a budget price.

Review 45:They have rock and roll there on Monday which finishes at 10.30pm . Not late but we like go to bed a bit earlier than that for an early start on holidays.

Review 46:The charm of an old English Pub with a very friendly staff. The room was very clean with a lovely ensuite shower.

Review 47:No staff available when leaving as I wanted to tell some one that the shaver point in room 6 was not working as I could not get my plug in.

Review 48:Breakfast was very good

Review 49:The room was very small. Nobody was attending reception when i arrived. I had to find the bar staff to help. Not able to charge anything to the room.

Review 50:Very nice breakfast.

Review 51:The room was quite dirty & needed decorating, painting etc. the TV was practically hanging off the wall. We requested an iron & the acient ironing board & iron arrived, torn & blackened, not impressed. Food was below average too.

Review 52:The staff (once you found them) were helpful & friendly

Review 53:Breakfast was at best, adequate.

Review 54:The rooms were clean, the bed comfortable, relaxed and very informal. We generally tend to stay in four or five star hotels but in this instance chose the horseshoe inn and we were not disappointed

Review 55:Room cold and grubby. Windows rotting. Central heating hardly deserving of the name.

Review 56:The staff did their best, I'm sure, but this place needs a serious injection of cash. If it were to be refurbished, I'd be happy to stay - this has the potential to be an excellent hotel.

Review 57:The bed was uncomfortable. The hotel is a 'party' centre and my room was above the main bar - so it was noisy. Given the number of residents and knowing they were booked for 2 parties on Saturday evening, they might have put me in a different room. However, in fairness, I was too tired from work to complain. Had I done so they might have changed things.

Review 58:It was easy to find. The draught beer was excellent.

Review 59:Breakfast times were a little late for me at 7.30 so I did not get breakfast and n alternative was offered. Items on the evening menu were not available and only found out at time of ordering. Staff although not rude were also not very welcoming. Not able to put all expenditure on one bill so had to make sure you had your wallet with you at all times. Lacked atmosphere.

Review 60:Location was quite but a bit out of the way. Cheap

Review 61:The doors are closed promptly at 11pm, a later check in is not negotiable...for any reason. The rooms are very tired looking, the bathroom grotty and the shower was a trickle of either very hot or very cold water.

Review 62:Cooked breakfast was ok but only instant coffee available

Review 63:Breakfast was a bit of disappointment with poor quality meat, scrambled eggs on toast was just one slice of toast with one egg scrambled on top! Instant coffee served when you could see from the breakfast room a massive coffee machine! It all just felt a bit lazy and we definitely didn't feel like valued customers. There was never anyone on the desk and check out was a case of dropping your keys into a box.

Review 64:Location was great, we explored the surrounding area and the castle nearby. The evening meal we had at the pub was good pub grub and value for money. The lady who cleans the rooms was the only person who engaged with us the whole stay, she was nice but it felt odd that none of the other staff cared how we were finding our stay!

Review 65:Hotel needs arefurbishment. It has a weirdly empty feel. I asked when checking in how old the building was and was told it was built to look old in the 50s. It is in need of a good clean too. Sorry but I can't recommend you stay here. I didn't enjoy it at all.

Review 66:Location

Review 67:bar staff talking/calling to each other especially one woman. behavior of one male staff who thought it was funny.general sloppinessof staff room was small

Review 68:nothing really

Review 69:We found the staff helpful. The rooms we booked were basic but clean. A bit shabby around the edges but adequate. Fairly good value. Breakfast was lovely.

Review 70:There seemed not be anyone senior around, the young staff were hanging with their friends and chatting loudly, and if trouble had started they were ill equipped to sort it out. At one point a customer had his girlfriend on the floor and was standing on her hair, playing yes, but not what you want in a pub/restaurant while eating out. The breakfast was poor. The bacon was rock hard and over cooked, and yet we were the first there at 8am. A shame as this could really be a lovely place.

Review 71:The welcome when we arrived, the chap at the desk was very helpful. The food in the bar was ok, although our choice was out and it was only 8.pm when we went to dinner, and the bar and restaurant went busy.

Review 72:The room was well worn with handles missing off of the furniture - a refurb is needed. Did not have cooked breakfast as waitress spent 10 minutes talking to other guest before asking me for my order by which time I was ready to leave to make 1st appointment of the day.

Review 73:Good value on late booking £44 B&B Clean room and bathroom/shower vale for money good food. good WiFi

Review 74:Had trouble getting the wifi to connect.

Review 75:This was our third visit and as usual we received a friendly and warm welcome, the room was clean and comfortable, food in the evening was good as was breakfast. We would thoroughly recommend the Horseshoe inn

Review 76:bedroom shabby and not very clean, dusty surfaces and carpet hadn't been vacuumed. Bathroom was very clean and so was bedding and bed was comfortable. We paid £84 for one night breakfast was included. ( I think it was overpriced ! ) We were only staying as attending a party near by so weren't at the hotel for any length of time I would not choose to stay here again.

Review 77:Cheerful friendly staff

Review 78:Staff were a bit cool ... no big deal but a warmer welcome would have made it an excellent (instead of very good) stay.

Review 79:Nice quiet location. Plenty of free parking. Didn't get noisy despite being an inn at bank holiday weekend.

Review 80:The time of breakfast, doesn't start till 7.30 not good when you need to be away before that time each & is included in your price. This is a pub so has a function room which does get loud and does rumble through the rooms

Review 81:Clean facilities, good and happy staff.

Review 82:Room was meant to be luxury but was far from it. Not clean. Room cold. No fire in the lounge. Run by staff that think it's ok to call you mate and fella!

Review 83:The heating couldn't cope - an additional plug-in heater was stuck in the middle of the floor. We've stayed here before, however, so we brought our own fan heater and soon got the place toasty.

Review 84:The bath was brilliant - big enough for two!

Review 85:the fact that the upgrade from the standard double room did not advise that the upgrade deleted the shower. My wife is disabled and cannot use a bath. your advertising should make clear that there is no shower over the bath - very disappointing.

Review 86:the hotel was fine, bed and room all good

Review 87:Although we didn't mention it had difficulty with TV which seemed to flash but not settle on a programme in Room 20.

Review 88:Staff were as always very efficient. They talked with us and were supportive in our endeavours. The enormous log burning fire in January was most welcome.

Review 89:having only stayed over night I am very pleased to say I would be happy to stay here for longer when in this in this area again very good breakfast to keep you going. found staff very helpful

Review 90:It claims to be a provider of traditional pub food but the quality of the evening meal was basic. Better to eat out.

Review 91:Good bed, very good bathroom. Very friendly staff. Excellent value B&B.

Review 92:Was told to book resturant aa they had wedding on and was busy. Nobody in resturant at all. Service was medioka . Had to get staff to come back as gave wrong drink and asked three timea for water. Food was basic not homemade. Room bathroom needs updating looked dirty. Staff seemed miserable and off putting. Breakfast menu says cereal yoghurt but no yoghurt no fresh fruit and no local produce such as jam etc

Review 93:Nice open fire. Room was nice . Cooked Breakfast was nice.

Review 94:I have used the Horseshoe Inn for many years over 25, for business pleasure and family functions, I've seen it go up and down, Since Emma and her team have been running it the establishment has been completely turned around. It caters for all whether young old business or pleasure. The food is excellent and their is a good selection of choices including the breakfast menu.

Review 95:Breakfast was well presented and good choice, but maybe a more substantial full English would have made in top notch.

Review 96:Room size, layout of building and amenities, the staff, parking, general appeal of building

Review 97:Food wasn't up to much as it seemed to have just been heated in a microwave.

Review 98:The room was clean and warm, and the staff were pretty good and helpful.

Review 99:Staff didn't know what they were doing. Bad atmosphere with horrible people. Was up all night at drunk people ran up and down the corridors. The breakfast was almost inedible and the staff got our order wring and didn't know what they were doing. Badly organised. Wouldn't recommend or stay there again.

Review 100:It was a good price. Good location.

Review 101:Staff! Was kept waiting at reception for nearly half hour on arrival, while the receptionist kept making drinks at the bar for locals, had to remind him we was there three times! also spoke to us like he was giving keys to 5star palace and he owned it.

Review 102:Location good, clean tidy but basic rooms, bonus wifi connection, en suite excellent.

Review 103:but poor supply of water to shower. Fluctuating between v.hot and cold. Poor Wi-fi although that may be related to the age of the building and sprawling layout. Lack of food on arrival (9.40pm Sat) as a result of there being a function. Some of the bar staff need lessons in customer care.

Review 104:Room very comfortable, breakfast and breakfast service/welcome very good.Cheerful friendly and helpful lady, dealing very well on her own, with breakfast service.

Review 105:Room basic and quite small but offfered everything you would need for weekend away. Arrived after 9pm after 8 hour drive and no food/snacks available

Review 106:Excellent Breakfast menu (even offered Marmite)

Review 107:Wasn't as clean as I would have expected toilet was dirty in the room and crisps on the floor so hadn't been cleaned properly from the last visitors bed was nice and clean

Review 108:Staff were friendly food was good and plenty of it enjoyed the peace and quiet as the place was empty

Review 109:This is a truck stop/road house. Tatty room and dirty furnishings, including outer-corridor/approach to room with its collection of unmatched and stained chairs, stains on carpet; very loud live music making any relaxation impossible whether in the room or downstairs; dining room looked really uninviting/risky and other restaurants are a drive away. Price was really too high for the quality and nature of the offer here.

Review 110:Room was freesing.took 2 hours for someone to come witha Room was frezing took 3hours for someone to bring a heater. Sat for 3 hours in our coats it was so cold, Poor cooked breakfast.

Review 111:Nothing to fault

Review 112:Quiet despite being next to road. Rooms clean, modern fittings and fixtures. Good bathroom. After staying in in The Albion Brighton the night before (an absolute flea pit for the same price) the Horseshoe Inn restored my faith in British Hotels

Review 113:We loved every minute of our stay here. The room, including bathroom and shower were spotlessly clean. The towels and bedding were pure white -not a mark on them - towels replaced when used. We had TV with radio and CD in the room with good reception; tea/coffee making facilities that were replenished every day, including biscuits and a very comfortable bed with duvet (which we requested). The breakfast buffet was superb with as much toast as you wanted, lots of cereals, yoghurts, fruit juices, milk, tea & coffee. The staff were lovely and came to take order at the table for either full English breakfast which included eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomato and baked beans and you could have a combination or just one of the items with or without toast. We will definitely be going back to the Horseshoe Inn again. Absolutely superb and many thanks to the managers who run it.

Review 114:adequate but uninspiring breakfast. Only one option of fish and that wasn't available after the first morning. Noise from neighbouring rooms, creaky floors etc.

Review 115:very friendly bar staff. large car park. nice weather!

Review 116:A lack of attention to detail, for example: No fresh fruit for breakfast. No coffee machine in breakfast room. Hair drier not working. No biscuits with tea/coffee in room. Milk, soap and shampoo not replenished for second day. Very small bedroom

Review 117:Staff really friendly and helpful. Very nice bar and eating area. Lots of parking space. Nice views over fields from rear of hotel.

Review 118:Attitude of breakfast lady Only semi skimmed milk available No fruit on offer Bacon looked like it had been deep fried ,eggs were over cooked and dry Evening meal was a forty minute wait Quilt cover was torn

Review 119:The location

Review 120:Down side was rooms were a bit noisy. Would benefit from double glazing to keep out road noise and we didn't need to use our tv to get the news; we could hear next door's.

Review 121:Food was excellent. Not a huge amount of staff but those who were there were very attentive. Room, although dated had modern bathroom with shower cubicle and bed was very comfortable.

Review 122:Requested sheets & blanket for bed instead of a duvet, but this request was not forwarded. Noise from adjoining room. A bath was included on the website, but we were allocated a shower only.

Review 123:Food was good & staff helpful. Wifi good.

Review 124:The decor seriously needed updating. The room was clean but old fashioned, and not in a good way. After we returned to our room after a very long day and a wedding (elsewhere), we were dismayed to discover that there was a rock and roll night taking place in the function room below us. The music was very loud and went on until midnight.

Review 125:Staff did their best to accommodate us. The Hotel is in a nice location. We were allowed early access to our room to change for a wedding, after a very long journey. The breakfast was fine too.

Review 126:This is a "no frills" decent hotel that provides what it advertises. However larger baths towels would be good and perhaps fruit at breakfast.

Review 127:The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a relaxed, informal atmosphere, very much a local country inn.

Review 128:The room was nothing like the picture on the internet, was very small and furniture was dated and shabby.I complained and did not get any satisfaction would not stay there again.

Review 129:Bedroom & en-suite badly need updating. Mattress was awful & pillow flat. Window framework was rotten & and glass was falling out. Breakfast was adequate but of poor quality.

Review 130:Nice location.

Review 131:Beware of functions going on late into the evening. Noise from band members continued after midnight packing up their cars. Advertised as having Wi-Fi but this was not available in all areas.

Review 132:Enjoyed the breakfast, that was about all.

Review 133:Great location, easy to find, plenty of parking space. Everything I needed in my room which had pleasant views. Convenient to be able to dine on the premises. Good value.

Review 134:it seemed to run by young staff that didn't really know how to deal with customers .Bedroom 1 coat hanger,1 sachet of coffee 1tub of milk for twin room, 1 slim pillow on each bed ,curtain off the rail one end .bathroom fan towel rail switched off in bedroom by the pillow .shower ran hot then cold .asked one lunchtime at 1418hrs if we could have in the bar and was told food stopped at 1415hrs [3mins that's for residents ]service at breakfast could have been a lot better , had to make own tea/coffee and people had to ask for the urn to be refilled ,running out of bread for toasting then bread would be still frozen that ruled out having untoasted bread .that is the 2nd stay at the inn was better 2/3 years ago

Review 135:not a lot

Review 136:on suite very cramped room a bit on the small size didn't realize the hotel was on a fairly busy road so didn't sleep to well

Review 137:Good beer and food staff friendly and helpful main inn nice and full of character

Review 138:It took ages for the person on reception to find our booking. The food was mediocre and the bar ran out of some of the beers. The shower could do with a dish at arm height to put soap, shampoo, etc.

Review 139:It was easy to find and not far from our relatives in Stunts Green. Staff were friendly. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of room for our clothes, etc

Review 140:Rooms were very small no dressing table or mirror window frame was so rotten we could see daylight through it bathroom small couldn't open thew shower screen without it hitting the wash basin only serve food at set times rooms in need of a coat of paint duvet cover did not fit the bed hairdryer did not work. Definately not up to 3 star rating.

Review 141:Staff were very helpful and pleasant. Clean linen and towels.

The Fine Print

Please note that this is a non-smoking hotel.
