Reviews for Hotel Arene
Review 1:The staff were not particularly welcoming. We asked for our car by 9am and it arrived at 9.40. We would have been charged the wrong amount if I had not queried this.
Review 2:We liked the room which was quite large and comfortable.
Review 3:The experience of arriving and being told to go away, get my luggage, stall, was weird til I understood that the man at front [older, name started with an 'E'] wanted to make sure that he finished his shift at 2:30 before he had to do the paper work for me. NO ONE was booking in, so he had nothing but time to do it, but waited til he dumped it on the young girl. Also, no one would explain the steam room.,,,sad to lose that resource.
Review 4:Welcoming of our poodle, nice to have an indoor pool, though small.
Review 5:Very expensive for what it is. The rather bored and off-hand receptionist gave another couple the same room as us, and issued them with an electronic key to it. Although we kept the room and they were asked to move as we had established ourselves in it and used the facilities, they had booked it specially and it was very embarrassing for all of us - and would have been even more so if I had been in the shower when they came in, which I nearly was.
Review 6:Convenient location in the centre of the city
Review 7:Expensive parking. Tiny cramped room.
Review 8:In the center of the old town. Service and food at the in hotel restaurant was very good. We were given a quiet room with a padded door, but our sleep was badly disturbed by drunks in the street.
Review 9:Like I already mentioned after our previous stay... everything was perfect again and we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful hotel with the very friendly staff and the unique atmosphere.
Review 10:We were booked into the "un renovated annex" which meant a very tired looking but clean room. Unfortunately the shower tray didn't drain so end unite flooded. Staff tried to charge us for breakfast despite it being included in room rate...I had to prove it was true with documents.
Review 11:The location was great.
Review 12:Difficult car parking charged for at 9 euros. No tea or coffee makingfacilities in room.
Review 13:Comfortable beds, great location. Excellent breakfast Pleasant staff
Review 14:This hotel is an utterly charming and wonderful place to stay. The city of Orange with its ancient and most well kept architecture is so much worth a stop. To combine your time in Orange with a stay at the Best Western Hotel Arlene Kulm is a choice that you should not miss. Great breakfast, very friendly staff, extraordinary decoration, a pool in a surrounding like you have never seen before... all in all very highly recommended!!!
Review 15:It seems that most/all city centre Hotels suffer with a noise problem...this one in particular has the rubbish/street cleaners moving around the various small side streets an very early hours of the morning...and indeed this is compounded by the moving/shuffling of cars in and out of the garage at 5.00am!!!. In the morning I (and my fellow three other travellers) prefer a light Breakfast and this is now becoming far too expensive 11euros!. My advise go around the corner to various coffee places and pay half.
Review 16:The Hotel is located in the heart of Orange...once you have your car put into their Garage then there is nothing else to worry about...and travelling around this small city is very easy. Pay the extra and stay in the newer section of the Hotel...the older part backs onto noisy side streets and the Hotel garage.
Review 17:The car was taken away by the staff and parked in a secure parking lot, there was no choice in that. Make sure that you re-check your vehicle very carefully for any damage. We thought we had checked ours but when we stopped again we found it had been scratched and dented on the bumper and of course by then its too late.
Review 18:The staff were moderately helpful - the bar was open and closed at random times and the iron that was promised did not materialise! Please don't rely on local taxis to be available unless you have pre-booked!
Review 19:Location was really good, if you are using the car park from the hotel I'm not sure where your car will be parked but you do need to give prior notice to have it back. It's approx €9 per night. Other than the minor issues, which were completely related to the nature of our visit, it is a gorgeous little town and has all the French features and shops you would want from a visit. The drive from Marseille is straight forward and there are supermarkets and sightseeing so should cater for everyone.
Review 20:Booked a standard room and it was not only sub standard but was uninhabitable. Refused this room and was moved into a better room but rate was increased significantly. Surprised that booking.com even shows these standard rooms as an option for booking. .
Review 21:Staff was polite and helpful. Good location. Room we were moved to was acceptable even though very pricey.
Review 22:Room was at front so when window was open got smoke coming in from smokers outside. Wardrobe area had a very annoying movement sensitive light - simple switch would have been better.
Review 23:Decor interesting with historical figures on the doors. Room a good size with enormous bathroom with great shower. Bed very comfortable. Nice outdoor pool and area to sit.
Review 24:we were aware that our room was in the annexe but we didn't like the fact that it was almost directly on to the street - it did not feel like being in a hotel at all. Hotel was difficult to find and parking was complicated. Valet parking meant that the car was taken away and there was no access to it un til the nexr morning. In the confusion next morning we did not pick up the spare key - should have been noticed by staff.
Review 25:when we realised that we had not picked up the key we contacted the hotel and it was arranged that the key would be posted to our home address. Efficient and speedy service!
Review 26:Carpet was stained, but we were in the older part of the hotel. Would prefer a shower unit but again in the older part.
Review 27:I liked that the hotel was very central, friendly staff & car was taken to be parked
Review 28:Position difficult to reach by car - watch the low bollards! No restaurant, local restaurants close very early! Nothing available after 8.30!
Review 29:Room and facilities good - staff helpful
Review 30:According to hotel details, parking at the hotel is not free, which we considered a disadvantage. There's an open air-parking just a street away though, where you can park your car for free at night (not during the day) and we only stayed for 1 night. If you stay longer, you may want to consider paying for parking at the hotel, depending on their current prices.
Review 31:ROOM: We booked our room very late (the night itself) and still had a very nice room, with a terrace beneath the stars ... awesome! BATHROOM: The bathroom (always important) was very clean, and spacious too. CHECK-IN: Checking in late was no problem at all, and people were friendly. LOCATION: The hotel was situated in the heart of Orange, which was awesome. We found a nice bakery (not expensive) only a few minutes walking. All in all a very nice hotel!
Review 32:The bags of laundry and the housekeeping tools in the hallway of the second floor for hours on end. In the summer with the heat it was smelly!
Review 33:The room and the bathroom
Review 34:Pillows could have been softer - didnt like to ask if they had softer ones as by this time the receptionists had changed and the older one was quite abrupt and not very pleasant)
Review 35:The room: Louis de bourbon was fantastic and included an enormous bed, dressing area (including full size ironing board and iron and mini bar) and bathroom (with separate shower and bath). Lovely to enjoy breakfast outside on square. All staff were lovely and extremely helpful (except one guy on reception that is why I didn't put excellent against staff which is a shame as the younger guy was extremely courteous and helpful)
Review 36:It was a nice hotel stay with a right under the breakfast buffet and a lot of expertise staff regarding service - we will make another visit in the autumn of 2014, and we would recommend this hotel when visiting Orange in France
Review 37:This hotel is rated a 3 stars, but rent rooms in a non-renovated area and these rooms are sub-standards, they have the essentials, but should be rated 1 star. They do not charge the maximum price, but it is not even worth the price they charge
Review 38:Nothing
Review 39:Everything. Wonderfully helpful staff, a charming, light and airy room (#207), excellent bathroom and amenities. We ate there and has an excellent meal, fresh simple ingredients perfectly cooked. The deserts were not the Chef's strength but why quibble. We'll stay lponger next time.
Review 40:on arrival we ordered a glass of wine and snack in bar area to be told there wasn't any crisps, nuts or snack in the hotel to be had...
Review 41:good staff
Review 42:Garage Parking
Review 43:Garage is paid (10€). The lobby smell unpleasant.
Review 44:Excelent bathroom/toilet. Excellent bed. Very good location. Good wifi.
Review 45:No comment.
Review 46:The location was very good. The hotel room and en-suite bathroom was a generous size with a small but quiet balcony area.
Review 47:I enjoyed the central and silent position of the hotel, and their pleasant street café, with proper restaurant serving at a very reasonable price.
Review 48:No problems
Review 49:Excellent location lovely room and shower room
Review 50:Location is just great.
Review 51:Everything
Review 52:Personnel très accueillant. Superbe situation au centre de la ville . Très bon petit-déjeuner.
Review 53:lits très confortables
Review 54:Our room was very spacious and well designed to store our luggage. Excellent bathroom
Review 55:Location to the Roman theatre, to town centre, good restaurants all within easy walking distance. The hotel breakfast was excellent.
Review 56:They even parked my car
Review 57:nothing
Review 58:the attention to details. the accueil. the parking
Review 59:Difficult access
Review 60:Well located in the old town, ideal for places of interest and restaurents.
Review 61:all of it.
Review 62:nothing really, except one of the staff who was very helpful.
Review 63:service/staff is patchy, and mediocre
Review 64:walking distance to key Orange facilities quiet square in old town
Review 65:Nice welcome to the hotel. The car was taken care of. Just in center of town. Value for Money. Nice with a shower cabin, and the small balcony.
Review 66:Parking Situation, no elevator in 2nd building
Review 67:Friendly hotel, centrally lockten with lange rooms and sunny terrace.
Review 68:you have to pay for everything
Review 69:clean, calm, location
Review 70:Paying for parking at the hotel!
Review 71:Good location
Review 72:Our room had a light carpet which should have been replaced years ago. The stains were numerous, most of them probably not removable anymore. The paint on the wall was missing on one corner near the ceiling on almost 1 square meter.
Review 73:The location couldn't be better. 200 m from the Roman Theatre, 300 m to the Roman Arch. A supermarket is less than 50 m away. The outdoor pool is not crowded and supplies a welcome refreshment on hot days. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Review 74:Location; secure parking; friendly staff; comfortable bed; room with balcony; breakfast outdoors; restaurant on site with good food. Thank you.
Review 75:No lift to at least half the rooms for one story. Complicated path to room via lift, doors, past conference area, outside past pool and then up circular stairs to next floor. Given class of hotel and quality of rooms, food etc this was very bad. Wi-Fi also poor.
Review 76:Good large well-appointed room. Excellent position for tourist sites and city with convenient distance from station. Friendly very helpful staff. Good generous breakfast.
Review 77:The initial room booked was a lower price due to being "unrenovated". In this case, unrenovated should read dingy, small, very musty and smelling of old cigarets and perhaps mold and mildew. It was absolute un acceptable, let alone at a BW. Shame on Booking.com for even offering such a room. At a higher price we moved to the renovated section which was OK except loud as it is very near a church's bells. I also was not comfortable with the parking arrangements. The option was give your keys to the hotel and they would park it in a private garage for 9 euro, but they would not tell me where that was only that I would not have access to it until I it was delivered in the am. The other option was a public parking lot on the other side of town. The doors in the new section were covered with full size pictures of (I presume) local opera persons. Many of them were kinda creepy. If you don't mind having a photo 300lbs woman on door, that would help. I thought it inappropriate for a hotel.
Review 78:I liked the front desk clerk.
Review 79:The location was perfect and the rooms clean and comfortable. The bed was probably the most comfortable one I've slept in while traveling in France!!
Review 80:We stayed in the part of the hotel that was not remodeled. For the price it was still decent for a one night stay. We were offered a reduced price for an upgraded room, but we chose to stay with the lower price after being given the opportunity to see the I remodeled room
Review 81:Very helpful staff, a little hard to find but once there, great valet parking. Walking distance to plenty of shopping and restaurants. Front desk person had our luggage taken to our room
Review 82:Poorly designed rooms when entering there are two steps downwards. Meat enlightens nightmare. The bathroom doors open in to u giving no room to enter.
Review 83:Nothing I would not go back
Review 84:This hotel was great in every way. The staff took our car and parked it in the hotel s garage. They upgraded up room since they had availability. The room was spacious clean nice and very comfortable. We really liked our stay there.
Review 85:breakfast mediocre for 10€ p/p, carpet stained, decoration (annexe), morning staff.
Review 86:parking facility (additional 10€), location, over priced for all over facilities, night staff
Review 87:Were very disappointed in the gentleman at the reception when wechecked in and his overall lack of good service. I went to ask him fora place to eat and he was on the phone clearly on a personal call, seemed irritated, took a map and pointed out a place to eat veryquickly and went back to his call. We went to the restaurant, and itwas closed! Then, walked around the ghost town that was Orange at nightand could not find a good place to eat so we went back to the hotel toask. On the way, we saw a restaurant next to the hotel but didnt knowif it was open, asked the man about it and he said, I don'tKNOW...so we simply went by ourselves to look and fortunately itwas...no thanks to him...
Review 88:Good location, and valet parking services was a plus.
Review 89:9 Euro for parking overnight
Review 90:Very nice hotel in the middle of Orange, quiet and lovely. Renovated in god taste and everything was working, which is not always the case in french hotels.
Review 91:Excellent location in the middle of town. Lovely comfortable room & bathroom. Gorgeous town, that we will visit again & would definitely stay here again
Review 92:No negative comments.
Review 93:friendly staff, good quality, fair price. Very good location in the center of town. Service and food in the restaurant was good as well.
Review 94:The worst and craziest parking solution as far as I know. Inconvenientif you want to use Orange as an stop when doing a long journey by thenearby highway. Please remove from hotel description that it has"private parking on site". Absolutely false. The parking is acouple of minutes away either driving or walking. The hotel only allowyou park there under the condition that you let then the keys of yourcar! They even insist in driving your car to the unknown locationthemselves. If you don't want, then the receptionist have to comewith you to the parking. They don't provide any reason why they wantto keep the keys of a car that they have locked in a closed parking youhave no access to. You are forced to take with you everything you aregoing to need in the room before leaving the car with them until youleave the hotel. The worst is that you expect parking on site and youget parking in undisclosed location and literally leaving your car tounknown people. They tell you that you can risk to park your car in thestreet too, about ten minutes from the hotel. No option if you havesomething minimally valuable or private that you can't take to thehotel room. We've got a "non renovated" room. We paid 99 €for a low budget backpackers hostel room, without breakfast, withoutworking wifi and the above described "parking on site" whichaccounted for 9 €.
Review 95:Receptionist the night we arrived was extremely sympathetic and helpful.Location was good for visiting the town. Beds were comfortable. Pillowswere of two different hardness so you can choose. We've got twodouble beds. Shower, toilet and sink were functioning. They even havebasic toiletries in the bathroom.
Review 96:Travelling by car down some narrow roads within the town needed to be with great care as solid bollards restricted width access.
Review 97:The quaint buildings, roman history, general ambience.
Review 98:Although the 'open' shower looked lovely, the floor did get very wet!
Review 99:The position of the hotel was great - right in the centre of Orange. Lovely big rooms and a huge bathroom.
Review 100:Loved the hotel....we had a disabled friendly room. Staff were very helpful and the restaurant was first class. Would stay there again if we were visiting Orange.
Review 101:In the city center. Very well serviced breakfast. Quiet night. Good service like WiFi and shower clean. Special closed off protected garage for the car.
Review 102:It was all good
Review 103:The welcome was wonderful, rooms lovely and very clean. The hotel isperfectly located for exploring and easy to find your way back. Beinggiven a map from the lovely lady who booked us in also helped! Breakfastwas also great!
Review 104:We had an unfortunate experience. There is only valet parking at this hotel. Whoever parked the car dented it. The hotel claimed that they did not dent the car, and to prove it showed us a digital picture with the dent. However, the picture was from our second day there. I believe that they dented the car on the first day, then took the picture to try to claim that the dent was already there. We had to pay the rental company 55 Euros, even though we had full coverage on the car.
Review 105:The staff was helpful. The hotel was clean and comfortable.
Review 106:Parking not on-site No ability / flexibility to get any food if arriving past 21.30 within the hotel. (Even though other guests were still eating). Could hear water running in room.
Review 107:Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly.
Review 108:Cappuccino is not included in breakfast package. Not restructured part of hotel is not so nice...
Review 109:Friendly staff, restaurant good quality, variety and price. Nice breakfast
Review 110:The swimming pool was a bit on the smalll side - but lovely all the same.
Review 111:Really good hotel in a great location with friendly staff. It has a good restaurant and a lovely - but petite swimming pool. Nice spacious , opera themed rooms
Review 112:Our room was up quite a few stairs and although no problem for us, access could be a problem and I'd recommend requesting room in other block.
Review 113:Very friendly and helpful staff; good breakfast; nice spacious room, clean; nice little pool for a refreshing dip after exploring the town's historic sites; very good location.
Review 114:breakfast (poor)
Review 115:Very spacious bedroom and bathroom, lovely terrace.. great swimming pools - good to have fitness room. Great location with plenty of boutiques and resturants around
Review 116:The "unrenovated" section of the hotel really needs to be renovated. Musty carpets in the halls. Pay the extra for the renovated section.
Review 117:excellent location for exploring Orange.
Review 118:Secure parking costs extra.
Review 119:Everything packaged together well - in the centre of Orange, so able to walk to the arena and museum and all shops and cafes, restaurants. We ate in house and the meals were very good and reasonably priced. Big rooms with modern bathroom (Provençal style) and secure car parking available.
Review 120:Shower stall tricky not to get water all over bathroom as there is not door.
Review 121:location excellant, valet car parking in their own garage a big plus. Restaurant on site in quiet courtyard, great food.
Review 122:We got the old non renovated rooms which were a poor show, too close to the church and its bells seemed to be in our rooms, it ranged every 15 minutes, which was too much to bear.
Review 123:Good location, good food, nice people eager to satisfy your needs
Review 124:It was hard to get to room 209 (through pool and with stairs which with some luggage and 2 kids was a little bit inconvenient) but at the end it worked out fine for just one night. The bathroom is very nicely renovated but the shower walls (all 3 ) had lots of tiny black hair sticked to them (looked like somebody before us shaved his face in the shower). Other than this everything was very clean!!
Review 125:The location, the parking availability and the room in general my kids liked the very original doors of every room.
Review 126:Our room was rather dark and it looks like the hallway needs some renovation.
Review 127:The staff was friendly and helpful. The spa was nice. The breakfast was good
Review 128:Restaurant closed on a Friday night in late April.
Review 129:Very nice hotel in the historic center of Orange. Support the car valet.Indoor and outdoor pool, room gym.Très Very welcoming, veryprofessional. We highly recommend this hotel 200 meters from the ancienttheater of Orange, ideal for Choregies.
