Reviews for Hotel Riviera

Review 1:Not much to dislike. Only things I would say were that parking was an issue at the rear of the hotel and perhaps a little expensive in the bar etc

Review 2:Staff were unfailingly friendly and courteous. They could not do enough to assist. Food and restaurant were excellent

Review 3:Unfortunately, when we went there in late September, the central heating was turned off. However, a freestanding heater was supplied to the room, which worked quickly and well. Our rooms were on the 3rd floor, and at one point the lift was out of order, which could have been a problem for someone with limited mobility. We were on half board, but the prices for dinner and drinks were high.

Review 4:The location, residents' lounge and restaurant were excellent. The food was imaginative and delicious. There was a fresh dinner menu every night with good choices. The staff were helpful and professional and service in the restaurant was good. The room was comfortable overall.

Review 5:Beautiful water view. Extremely clean with great details, thick towels, comfortable mattress. Staff was fantastic, service terrific. I highly recommend this hotel.

Review 6:The bedding! When I am confronted with sheets and blankets, my heart sinks! Having slept under a duvet for the past 40+ years, I cannot sleep with "tucked in" bedding. I appreciate that there are people who prefer the "old fashioned " method of bed making, so therefore the Hotel should give guests a choice. Another dislike was the foul coffee that I made in the morning from the stuff in the room. It was undrinkable and I wish that I had chosen to have room service for my early morning coffee!

Review 7:Location. Porter service. Helpful staff. Excellent food.

Review 8:I'd prefer a help-yourself table for cereals and juices at breakfast - less formal.

Review 9:The sense of complete, successful attention to detail for the customers' comfort.

Review 10:Leaving

Review 11:superb .superb The be st hotel i have experienced. staff kindness itself,Service first rate. meal were a delight. room serviceexcellent. look forword to next time

Review 12:The staff are always there for you without being intrusive. Helped with the wheelchair, made us feel like royalty, truely exceptional service, thanks, we'll be back for a third stay.

Review 13:A deluxe double room consisted of two single beds pushed together - for £400 a night this was poor. Also the fact that we had to pay a £21 supplement for the evening meal which was already paid for because fish was the only thing on the menu which was included

Review 14:Polite and helpful staff

Review 15:I would love to see how they get a wheelchair in the lift as it was exceptionally small. Public areas were more suited to older clients, as although a Regency hotel, décor was not particularly conducive to many modern traveller expectations. Reconsidering a more realistically priced a la carte dinner allowance could be seen as much fairer to the client. The inclusive 5 course dinner menu was presented as being £58 whereas selecting a la carte only offered a £20 allowance - leaving a slightly bitter taste of being ripped off.

Review 16:Very comfortable accommodation and excellent restaurant & bar facilities. All staff were extremely courteous, very helpful and had clearly been trained to a very high standard - all of which was of course reflected in the price charged.

Review 17:Breakfast limited to waiter service. No good for good for grazer! No proper fresh fruit. Menu not helpful - had ask waiter every time for available options.

Review 18:The individual care and courtesy to each resident as if they were the only important one. This came from every member of the Staff. My cousins visited me during my stay and they were treated with the same care although this was the busiest Week of the Year for Sidmouth (Folk Week) there was even interest by various Members of Staff in the events which I attended.

Review 19:The only negative was the price which seemed over the top - although everything was excellent. Everywhere else seemed booked up, which may endorse our feelings?

Review 20:very soft mattress our table (8) faced the air-conditioning, placing us into an uncomfortable draught

Review 21:excellent kitchen big white towels and robe friendly, helpful staff

Review 22:Italian head waiter was a bit rushed at breakfast, very pleasant but could relax a bit more, breakfast does not need to be rushed. A small point.

Review 23:Staff we're very helpful and I really liked the professional way they approached their work, great customer rapport.

Review 24:No AC, No wifi Beds very old and saggy room smaller than expected £356 for one night poor value although seems to be a problem with Sidmouth as a whole Could be a fantastic location but seems to be stuck 30 years ago and clearly caterers for the grey pound

Review 25:Sits right on the Esplanade in prime position.

Review 26:nice old fashioned style, good staff and good service. excellent meals.

Review 27:The service could not be faulted from all the staff and so friendly.

Review 28:Hotel seems to be aimed at retired folk, decor not in this century.

Review 29:Very clean and attentive staff

Review 30:Friendly,welcoming staff.

Review 31:A little bit dated in ambiance.

Review 32:Faultless service and cleanliness.

Review 33:No dislikes.

Review 34:The ambience of the hotel which was welcoming and friendly.

Review 35:Personal attention of staff was excellent

Review 36:everything from when we got there to when we left could not find a fault

Review 37:There was nothing we did not like

Review 38:Everything about the hotel was first class, all the staff were extremely helpful - it was a truly wonderful stay

Review 39:Everything was done to make sure I had a trouble free holiday, clean, comfortable great position even the sun shone.

Review 40:Nothing

Review 41:This hotel is an all time favourite having stayed many times. Standards remain consistently high and the staff are superb

Review 42:The staff could not be more helpful. The Hotel is superbly maintained. The dining experience is as close to perfect as it could be.

Review 43:cant think of anything

Review 44:the room was excellent couldnt fault the food super location the staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 45:The bedroom was a double but not much room between the bed & walls. This room for 2 would have been quite claustrophobic with a suitcase stand on one side, table/chair etc rather a tight squeeze. As a single it was OK but get rid of the table & chair!

Review 46:The BATHROOM was the best, had everything which I love, choice of a proper shower cubicle OR a bath after such a long drive from Hertfordshire.

Review 47:From the very first moment the staff were excellent, parked our car for us, took our luggage to our room, very friendly but professional at the same time. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the decor very elegant, I think it is more for the older generation , I am in my late 50's and my husband early 60's but we were the youngest there !!

Review 48:My room whilst comfortable was small and the view uninspiring. The cost of a sea view was beyond my budget.

Review 49:The staff were very attentive. The hotel was very comfortable. The location was ideal, and when the weather was fine the terrace was an excellent place to sit, eat and relax.

Review 50:You couldn't see the sea if you were just sitting in the chair - you needed to stand up or lie on the bed, which was a pity.

Review 51:Friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Excellent decor. Comfortable bed. Was upgraded to a small double.

Review 52:No information on the local area in the room or downstairs. A folder should be provided listing local amenities and possible venues to visit. It was not enough to be directed to look in the telephone booth to see for ourselves! Considering the overall cost of our stay although we enjoyed it very much, it was very expensive for a four star hotel. We are seasoned travellers so we actually have vast experience in staying in such accommodation.

Review 53:Loved the room and sea view, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom gave the choice of shower or bath. It was scrupulously clean and well looked after. The garage was underground which saved the car from seagull droppings! It was also very secure. The food was beautifully presented although the breakfast cereal dishes were definitely the wrong shape if the option were Shredded Wheat as 2 did not fit! A lovely experience altogether!

Review 54:Probably the only hotel that l have stayed in that did not expose itself to criticism.

Review 55:Warm friendly welcome. Spotless interiors. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 56:Nothing.

Review 57:A traditional hotel that provides excellent customer service from the moment you arrive. The food was also extremely good, vegetarian choices were outstanding for taste and inventiveness. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable break.

Review 58:Staff were very attentive and friendly, helping us in every possible way. the food was varied and of a high standard. We would certainly stay there again.

Review 59:Nothing to dislike

Review 60:Very friendly staff, excellent food & plenty of time between 6 course meal. Not the cheapest hotel in Sidmouth but great for a special treat

Review 61:1 Gurgling Radiator in the room which had to be shut down then the roomwas freezing 2 As requested twin beds but so tight together everymovement from the other bed was transferred Because of the above notmuch sleep for the 1 night stayed

Review 62:Very helpful and friendly staff

Review 63:Nothing - but only stayed overnight!

Review 64:Restaurant - excellent Staff - very professional and friendly Room - lovely and warm, clean Courtesy - it was our Ruby Wedding Anniversay and we had a card from Hotel on our breakfast table, and we were updated on arrival to room with sea view

Review 65:Why no teletext on TV?? Bedroom lighting could be improved

Review 66:Standard of food Friendly attitude of all staff

Review 67:N/A

Review 68:The warm friendly welcome, attention to detail and excellent food and wines.

Review 69:wine at £6 a glass in the Regency Bar

Review 70:friendly and efficient staff. Comfortable rooms and bed. good food. car was parked for us.
