Reviews for Chateau La Cheneviere
Review 1:None; other than the Normandy sites there's not a lot to do in the area.
Review 2:Beautiful, well kept property with a friendly accommodating staff. The food is excellent.
Review 3:Charged you for every little thing. Wi-Fi was weak and kept cutting in and out. Bed was super uncomfortable. No air conditioning in the main house. Flies in the room due to having to keep the windows open for air. No ironing boards. Overpriced on everything.
Review 4:Friendly staff.
Review 5:Staff in the dining room in the evening. Very good the first night, but hassled and offhand second night when it was more busy resulting in slow service.
Review 6:Location, facilities, room (suite) and food.
Review 7:A little minor training in the dining room. Tell the waitresses or waiters to clear the crumbs off the table after the main course has been served and before the dessert. I thought the price of breakfast in addition to the cost of the room was unnecessarily high. The jacuzzis instructions are not clear.
Review 8:We liked the grounds the wonderful trees especially the Sequoia. The staff was courteous and helpful.
Review 9:We had a personal recommendation from friends who have stayed here and they were right. Everything was first rate! I wish we could have stayed longer!
Review 10:Numerous e-mails went unanswered regarding arrangements for our visit. Finally, resorted to a telephone call. Perhaps, the issue may have been on my end BUT all other e-mails to Normandy were answered.
Review 11:Everything except dinner. It was clearly not as good as the price was steep.
Review 12:Nothing at all!
Review 13:The staff was very attentive and helpful. The hotel grounds are exquisite and elegant with a wonderful restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel and plan to return in the very near future!
Review 14:Since we booked this online, and perhaps since we did not look further into the amenities this facility had, we were a little unprepared for the class and cost of the dining that was expected in the restaurant. The superb accommodation and staff made up for this!
Review 15:We were very surprised at the fine quality of this establishment! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The food and service was a wonderful surprise.
Review 16:There was nothing the we did not like.
Review 17:Loved the french feel. Port en Bessin was a gorgeous small fishing village and accesible to all the D-Day landing beaches. An easy drive to each of the beaches by car. Definitely do not need a tour as there is so much information to read and see. Normandy is worth going to if you are interested in the Battle of Normandy but also it is a gorgeous drive and some quaint villages to see on the way.
Review 18:There was nothing not to like.
Review 19:The efficient and accomodating staff from reception through to restaurant and bar . The ambience of the hotel and quality of accomodation
Review 20:Expensive restaurant and breakfast.
Review 21:Great Chateau Garden
Review 22:The Chateau was amazing! The rooms were incredible, very large and pristine. The location is fantastic. We will definitely return
Review 23:a bit expensive, especially for the meals
Review 24:Location and staff
Review 25:Nothing.
Review 26:Everything. Property to the staff is beyond compare.
Review 27:Beautiful property. Very accommodating staff. Great food. Close to great areas.
Review 28:Not bad boring for 2 women
Review 29:Setting
Review 30:The sommelier and we were put at a bad table the 2nd night for dinner which we thought was disappointing.
Review 31:The place
Review 32:nothing. loved it all.
Review 33:quiet atmosphere. restaurant. garden
Review 34:Friendly staff, great location and beautiful setting make this an enjoyable place to visit - first class restaurant too.
Review 35:loved everything
Review 36:quiet and relaxing

Review 48:Leaving.
Review 49:Location. Food. Staff. Cidre!
Review 50:Breakfast , too expensive and not good
Review 51:Lovely setting Wonderful dinner
Review 52:It was a superb stay, beautiful and calm sorroundings and close to the port by bike with excellent fresh seafood!
Review 53:Location, food, Gardens
Review 54:There was an option to have more of a "snack" like dinner if ordered before 6:45- they forgot to tell us and that would have been nice the first night!!
Review 55:Loved being able to borrow the bikes and ride into Port de Bessin to have dinner! The town is only about a mile away and it was do fun! Also the breakfast is wonderful!!
Review 56:A wonderful Chateau situated in beautiful grounds and very close to all the near attractions. The restaurant is wonderful if you need a fine dining experienc, and the local Port has some good local food and charisma. All the staff spoke good English and were extremely helpful and accomodating. We hope to come again. To make it easy to find, just put in their coordinates in the GPS.
Review 57:The staff is warm, friendly and professional. We enjoyed a lovely dinner in the charming, light and window-filled dining room our first night at the Chateau and breakfast each morning. Additionally, the grounds are beautiful.
Review 58:Hated the wallpaper in the room - dark brown cows on beige background. Also poor directions to reach hotel. Dinner was extremely expensive and as we were lost getting to hotel and 15 minutes late for reservation were rushed through meal even though the restaurant was not full - the meal for two terribly overpriced though the fish was very fresh and excellent but not worth 50.00 for 4 ounces. Would not return.
Review 59:Nice grounds. Peaceful setting but the place did not feel homey or comfortable for some vague reason.
Review 60:Not a thing!
Review 61:The grounds were beautiful, the food superb, the service beyond attentive, and the staff well trained and extremely warm and friendly. The entire experience was first class.
Review 62:Can't think of a thing.
Review 63:Atmosphere of elegance in everything that was done - staff, dining, amenities. Really outstanding and would have loved to spend more time just to enjoy the hotel and grounds without doing abundance of sightseeing opportunities available in the area.
Review 64:They made a mistake with our dinner booking and insinuated that we hadfailed to book - we had not, in fact reception even called us to conformthe booking made at breakfast. It spoiled our anniversary meal and ourview of the hotel. Soft drinks are extraordinarily expensive.
Review 65:Beautiful setting and comfortable rooms. Most of the staff wereexcellent - friendly and helpful. The restaurant is excellent.
Review 66:well located between Bayeux and the coast and all very tastefully done. The food was excellent and the service friendly and professional. The bedroom was spacious and well appointed.
Review 67:Our room was in a newer section and quite modern. It is older on the outside but modern within. It was done very well but not what I had expected. Maybe they should indicate there are both types of rooms.
Review 68:The dining room was beautiful and well staffed. The views of the gardens were lovely. The buffet breakfast is well appointed and the croissants are top quality.
Review 69:Exceeded my expectations. The staff and chateau were lovely and welcoming. The buildings and grounds are meticulous and the location is well positioned for all the major tourist sites
Review 70:We stayed at La Cheneviere with our 9 month old daughter and the staff was extremely friendly and thoughtful and when we arrived all the baby equipment was already installed in our room. Even the bed in the cott was made everyday! The food although pricy was excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to our next stay! Did I already mention that we received a complementary upgrade to a junior suite which was absolutely fabulous!
Review 71:- The restaurant seems very good but expensive - We had a special deal for the room and thought it was a very good value for money. The full price seems a bit overpriced to me (the hotel is charming but not brand-new and it shows on the carpet/tapestry)
Review 72:- The staff was very welcoming and made our stay wonderful. - The facilities are great : the pool is heated, the park is very-well maintained - The beds and bathroom were extremely comfortable, we slept really well.
Review 73:hotel was beautiful and rooms were great. the grounds and pool were amazing as well. the staff was very nice and helpful location was great as well, just 2 minutes drive from the port and the restaurants
Review 74:room amazing, especially shower/bath...after 3 days of camping at Le Mans:) Food was good, service was excellent. Wish we had more than 1 night here.
Review 75:Breakfeast should be included-- at 25 euro a pop not a good valuefor a family. No other options for breakfeast anywhere else. Dinnermenu also extremely expensive. Waiter forgot to bring out the winedispite multiple requests (was apologetic later and comp'd oneof the plates).
Review 76:Brand new bicycles great for exploring the Normandy DDay (Utah) beachand surrounding sites. Quiet rooms, very clean and the bath is amazing.Parking is easy. Awesome heated swimming pool. Historic old building, occupied by the Germans in wwii. A short bike distance from the porttown where you can pickup some croissants. 8 minute car ride tobeautiful Bayeux town, also very close to the American cemetery.
Review 77:I really wanted to freshen up some of the potted plants, but it didn't diminish the experience.
Review 78:My husband and I stayed at the Chateau for three nights while we visited the WWII sites and saw the Bayeax tapestry. It was a wonderful, relaxing visit in the countryside. It couldn't have been nicer. The room was nice-sized with a large bathroom and tub. The staff was attentive and helpful, eager to help us with anything. When they brought us an iron to the room, they refused a tip. There is a lovely pool on the property. The breakfast was the nicest, most comprehensive petite dejuner that we had on our three-week trip, and the dinners were magnificent. I would happily return.
Review 79:Overall ambiance that was elegant and peaceful. Everything well appointed and modern too. Pool and tennis courts a lovely extra that our family enjoyed.
Review 80:A lovely Chateau. Good facilities, very friendly and helpful staff and great food. But expensive. An ideal base for visiting Bayeux, the Normandy D-day Beaches, Museums and War Cemeteries, if you can afford it!
Review 81:The room price and breakfast cost is a preposterously overpriced rip-off. It's full of American tourists who probably don't know what else is available if you look around more thoroughly...
Review 82:Nice gardens and one member of staff whose name I didn't catch was lovely.
Review 83:Breakfast.25E is much too much for what you get.
Review 84:Great location.Very comfy room with comfy bed and soft pillows.Evening meal,50e one was exellent value. The staff were very good but not in your face.
Review 85:This was the highlight of my trip. The Chateau was all that I anticipated and more. We had dinner both nights at the Chateau the service and food was just impeccable. It was the best meal an service in all of my trips to France. We had rented a car in Caen and drove to the Chateau it was a little difficult as there is no street address and modern GPS doesn't understand but once we were there it was just delightful. We will definitely will return on our next visit.
Review 86:I haven't anything to comment on here
Review 87:Staff were great and they had very good english. The location was excellent. Rooms very clean and beds very comfortable. Will return
Review 88:The 'Haut Cuisine' restaurant did not offer value that would be expectedat the price and the priced fixed breakfast @ 25 euro was a poor value.Restaurant options in the "off-season" are limited.
Review 89:Located between the small city of Bayeau and the coastal village of PortEn Bessin the Chateau offers access to both types of French experiences. The staff was very helpful in locating a private guide to tour Normandy,an experience that should not be missed.
Review 90:I stayed at the Chateau La Cheneviere as a 2 day side trip from Paris to visit the D-Day landing beaches and the American Cemetery. It was a relaxing two hour train ride from Paris to Bayeux. The hotel arranged to have a taxi waiting for us when we arrived in Bayeux. The Chateau itself was lovely and beautifully restored and decorated. We had dinner both nights at La Cheneviere. The service, presentation and food was outstanding. We wished that we had more time available to stay in this area. There are so many historic and interesting sites close by. Be sure to book any sightseeing tours in advance. We failed to do so but the hotel arranged to have our taxi driver, Christof, drive us to the sights that we wanted to see. A perfect French experience!
Review 91:We tried to obtain a light sandwich meal one evening in the hotel. This was not possible. The alternative was dinner in the dining room which was tiring after a long day of sightseeing. While our friends were able to get a sandwich sent to their room, this was denied to us. This was strange and attributable to the service manager.
Review 92:Our stay at 'La Cheneviere' was delightful. The park like setting was most attractive. Staff were professional and attentive. The food was excellent.
Review 93:N/A.
Review 94:Everything was as expected, perfect, the staff, the location, secure car park, a luxury chateaux. Unfortunately for arrived late and therefore we couldn't take advantage of the restaurant. Next time we will arrive earlier and stay a little longer and take advantage of the superb location and facilities. Having said all that , we had a super breakfast.
Review 95:Not a thing--loved every minute we were there!
Review 96:We had a wonderful stay. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. We had a delicious dinner in the restaurant our first evening. We used the bikes and the swimming pool. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. We didn't want to leave!!
