Reviews for The Castle Arms Inn

Review 1:We ate at the pub both evenings and the food was lovely, especially the Sunday lunch (which coming from someone who isn't a big fan of Sunday lunches is a huge compliment). Also had a good selection of drinks on offer. The owners were very friendly and as we visited in winter had the pleasure of the open fires, which was perfect after a cold day walking. The pub had a nice beer garden out back which I imagine would be lovely in the summer. Getting out and about: The pub itself is only a two minute drive from Thorpe Perrow and Masham is close by.

Review 2:Not a bad experience, but just be aware if you have mobility issues. The courtyard that you have to cross to the rooms has a lot of steps and gravel.

Review 3:We loved everything. This is the nicest place we have stayed on our many trips back and forth from Scotland to London. The staff were lovely. The food was excellent, both our evening meal and breakfast. The room was charming and very comfortable. I have never rated a hotel 10 before! The village of Snape seemed to be a lovely place to visit but we were just passing through and did not have time to take advantage of it.

Review 4:That we had to come home !!

Review 5:We had the most wonderful 7 day stay.Ian & Lisa could not have been more helpful. The whole atmosphere was so friendly . The room was clean and comfortable (apparently awaiting refurbishment but you would never have guessed it ) . The food was excellent and plentiful . Would definitely stay here again. One of the best places we have stayed.

Review 6:The owners of the hotel were a lovely couple and made us feel most welcome. The room, although a small twin was comfortable and had everything we needed. Very nice courtyard beer garden to enjoy a glass of wine. Food was excellent.

Review 7:there was nothing we could fault

Review 8:it was excellent we would have liked to have stayed longer to sample the food as the menu board looked very nice we did however sample the breakfast and enjoyed that very much

Review 9:Lovely place.. The owners friendly & helpful.. Very welcoming to both kid & dog.. Able to keep pooch with us in pub when eating.. Food fantastic... This is our 2nd visit & we will return..

Review 10:Beautiful village location. Pretty village pub, good food with variety on menu. Gorgeous courtyard. Access to rooms without going through pub, so able to come & go easily.

Review 11:What's not to like?

Review 12:Hosts are very welcoming. The accommodation is nicely done. Food excellent with attentive, pleasant staff. Good choice of beers and wines in the traditional pub. We were so impressed we booked a second night!

Review 13:In spite of a very late booking the owner was there to welcome us to the inn and offered to provide anything we wanted even though it was closed on a Monday evening.

Review 14:Some of the food was not that special in the evenings but the breakfast was excellent. The owner was polite but it would have been nice to have a "good morning" or "we hope you enjoyed your stay"

Review 15:The rooms were beautifully decorated, very clean and comfortable . There was an attractive courtyard to sit and relax in. Good bar and attractive restaurant.

Review 16:No wifi in bedrooms and had problems with it in main building.

Review 17:Lovely old fashioned pub. Nice patio leading to outhouses which have been converted into bedrooms. Friendly couple trying to build business of high quality.

Review 18:unfortunately there is no mobile phone coverage which is restricting and the wifi is only available in the bar

Review 19:Everything. Great welcome, good pub atmosphere, great menu well cooked and presented, quiet, clean, tidy room with plentiful hot water and free view TV channels.

Review 20:The location, staff and room were all excellent. We had an excellent meal in the evening and slept very well in this peaceful location. We would recommend this place to friends and family.

Review 21:The food is amazing as are the landlord and landlady - I have never seen a couple work so hard. Very relaxed atmosphere where we made lots of new friends. The rooms are out the back of the pub, so no noise and warm comfy rooms. We will be back.

Review 22:For the money, I thought the room was a little small; same applied to the bathroom - the shower cubicle wouldn't have accommodated a "larger" person. Otherwise, absolutely fine

Review 23:Nicely appointed, very clean rooms, friendly staff, good food in the restaurant

Review 24:Had a wonderful stay at this delightful villiage pub, room was very cosy, clean and modern and the owners could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended.

Review 25:From the moment we arrived our GSD was welcomed with great enthusiasm and really made to feel at home. She was received everywhere except in the restaurant but was with us when we ate in the bar. We are planning our next visit and can't wait. Great walks from the door.

Review 26:Nothing to dislike however wifi was a bit hit and miss at times.

Review 27:A traditional pub with excellent accommodation in an attractive and peaceful well kept village. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and offered those little extra touches. They are situated to the rear of the pub in a very pretty courtyard. The owners work extremely hard to make your stay pleasurable from the moment you walk through the door.

Review 28:Billed as wifi in all areas but could not get in bedrooms. Also be aware had no phone signal either.

Review 29:Friendliness of staff. everywhere very clean. comfortable room. heating only came on 4.30pm in room Varied food menu. Value for money.

Review 30:Small things really - plastic glasses in the room. Bathroom needed up dating but everything was clean

Review 31:Is an ideal place for a weekend away. Friendly staff and relaxed service. Good selection of beer and a real fire in the lounge. One of the evening meals was not quite up to scratch but the Chef came out to talk about it. The food overall was very good. Good quality toiletries provided.

Review 32:nothing

Review 33:The staff, locaction, food. butt most off all the peace and solitude at night. thank you very much Ian & Lisa. PS. hope to revist in future.

Review 34:The lack of lounge facilities to sit and read on a rainy day.

Review 35:The ambiance of the pub/restaurant. The quality of the bedroom/bathroom, and the heating

Review 36:nothing, maybe the room was a bit 90's pine but it was spotless and I'm told they are being referred very soon, though they certainly don't need it!

Review 37:Everything, Roaring fires and soup on arrival, wonderful breakfast and great facilities, enclosed courtyard great for dogs....

Review 38:Decent pub with cozy bar, very friendly staff, good food and comfortable rooms close to the A1 near Bedale. So much better than staying in a 'lodge'!

Review 39:bed uncomfortable tiled flooring, very cold on your feet TV was placed on a side wall so difficult to watch and the quality was not great, lot of interference.

Review 40:The food was excellent Spacious room good quality towels friends staff lovely location

Review 41:There was nothing I didn't like, and nothing disappointed, but it is worth knowing that you can't get wi-fi in the rooms, only in the bar, so if you are planning to do some work, bear this in mind.

Review 42:The friendliness of staff and proprietors, as well as sociable guests. I was travelling on my own for a friends wedding nr Masham. The location is lovely, in a delightful village, but a bit tricky to find without sat nav. Rooms really comfortable and well furnished, and I was delighted with the bathroom. Plenty of toiletries- not fiddly little bottles. The food was excellent, beautifully presented, and the Italian chef came out and spoke to the diners. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Castle Arms Inn.

Review 43:Nothing!

Review 44:The room was in the outbuildings and was lovely and decorated with a fresh looking pale yellow and blue with pine furniture. The bed looked lovely with a beautiful quilted beadspread and knitted throw, which we didn't need as the heating was sufficient. The bed was very comfortable and we had two very good nights sleep. The bathroom was lovely and stocked with luxurious tolietries, a real treat and lovely thick towells too! The food was out of this world, marlin for Friday tea and we got chatting with the chef and he cooked us surf and turf with lobster for our Saturday meal! All the menus looked so delicious we were spoilt for choice. The breakfasts were lovely too, with a large selection of fruits and ceral followed by a large choice of cookd breakfast, cooked to order. The landlord and lady were a lovely couple, chatty but not in your face, they said they could recomend walks when we said we were going out walking. This was an amazing stay.

Review 45:We could hear other guests returning back late to their room Walls bit thin

Review 46:A fine inn Kind and confident landlord - and landlady The perfect stay with great food Location quiet

Review 47:With hospitality like this the only thing we didn't like was leaving.

Review 48:From A pleasant greeting when we arrived & were shown a spacious room & booked a table for dinner nothing seemed too much trouble the place felt very comfortable. The dinner menu was perhaps limited but never the less plenty on it to please most people. The food was cooked properly & was very enjoyable with a good variety of real ales. As for breakfast WOW you name it they seemed to have it one of the best breakfast meals we have ever had. It certainly won't be long before we return!!

Review 49:double bed had two valleys where other people had slept.Shower cubicle wanted regrouting. Moled on panels. did not have a shower. No meals served on Sunday or Monday NIght. Cold Plates at Breakfast

Review 50:Staff were help and pleasant as were ian&lisa owners room a litte bit small but had all that was needed ie toiletries. and draw space. Good chef and pleasant. Food was good.

Review 51:Comfortable room and clean but a little small for the price of £85 per night.

Review 52:Lovely area and Castle Arms - great food, welcoming atmosphere and friendliness of the staff. Brillant evening menu and well priced. Good breakfast as well.

Review 53:Friendly pub run by a lovely couple, food was excellent and room was clean and comfortable. Stayed in several places over a weekend travelling north, this one was the best. We were a party of three, the wife, myself and my aged munsterlander dog, we were made welcome by staff and customers alike, so if you are going anyway near this delightful Yorkshire village, you would be mad not to call in... but not too many of you... I wanted to keep the secret to myself.

Review 54:No food after 4pm on Sunday unti breakfast on Monday, and then the pub was closed all day Monday. We had not realised that the pub would be closed and no food available after breakfast on Monday. A cold meal or sandwiches would have been welcome.

Review 55:The food was excellent.....the sea bass to die for. Delightful and efficient staff. Very friendly and helpful locals. Superb local shop. A delightful village with a very old chapel.

Review 56:No wifi in rooms as the walls are so thick! Available in the bar though.

Review 57:Very personable proprietors who are trying very hard to make the business successful. Truly excellent breakfast. Highly recommended.

Review 58:Nothing major, room we had was good, shower is in need of a re-grout, mould stain just puts you off a bit. Bed was very hard to sit on but was not too bad to sleep on. TV with DVD players was very small and hard to work out - not that we really needed it.

Review 59:Great old Pub feel, rooms out back in converted barn, no noise, food at dinner and breakfast was very good, serving size could be smaller. Staff were great and eager to please, good price.

Review 60:That we couldn't stay longer!......................................................................................................

Review 61:Welcomed as friends, treated as friends. The chef was good and tailored dishes to our tastes! The range of real ales was reasonable and well kept. For a small Inn in a small village it was difficult to fault!

Review 62:Booked online the afternoon of our stay, our room was waiting for us and the barman was very friendly and helpful as we didn't realise they didn't serve food on Sunday evenings. He recommended a place to eat and we returned for a drink later, again he was knowledgeable about the area places to go things to see. Room was very clean and quiet, the bed very comfortable, the garden was lovely but the weather was too cool to sit out. Check out was 11.00am which was good as we didn't have to rush.

Review 63:May only suggestion is perhaps the servings are large, so no room for dessert!

Review 64:The new owners, Ian and Lisa , could not have been more welcoming or obliging. The food was great- large servings, and even though not Sunday made roast beef and yorkshire puds! Fabulous old world pub, in a beautiful country village.

Review 65:Bed slightly hard.

Review 66:Friendly staff, enjoyed one of the local walks with help from one of the easy to follow illostrated maps. Excellent breakfast and locals that were happy to have a chat in the bar .

Review 67:Walls were very thin. Woke up with a screaming child just after 6am and couldn't get to sleep one night for someone's tv being on rather loud until after midnight. The room was rather small. TV didn't work very well. Ate in the pub on first night, food was lovely but quite expensive

Review 68:Location was tranquil, food was nice in the pub, staff were friendly and the room was nice although a bit small. The courtyard was pleasant to sit out and enjoy a coffee

Review 69:Not much. The meat used for the dinner dishes we had was of average quality and could have been a little better but was acceptable.

Review 70:The room was comfortable and well equipped for the type of accommodation. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were excellent. The dinner menu was quite varied and the food was well prepared.

Review 71:We arrived a little to early to check in, and our host didnt introduce himself, left us standing in hallway while he went and checked progress of our room, wernt made to feel very welcome to be honest. The day we left, my partner settled the bill, again the host didnt ask him if wed enjoyed our stay, I went to hand our keys back, neither Ian or lisa where about to say goodbye, so we just left, Overall we felt they lacked that friendliness and warmth youd expect of b&b proprieters.

Review 72:The castle arms is a lovely quaint pub in a lovely village. The rooms are very clean and comfortable . we only ate breakfasts during our stay, they where really nice, plenty of choice and well cooked

Review 73:The breakfast plates should be warmed so the food stays hotter for longer. The TV wasn't big enough. Didn't spoil our break and we would return there.

Review 74:Nice people running the place. Quiet location near enough to bigger towns to offer plenty of things to do during the days.

Review 75:Room,shower was excellent. good selection of cask and bottle ales, evening meal was fanstastic, I had pan fried duck with chorizo sausage, my wife had spanish cod. Good selection for breakfast inc any variation of cooked breakfast you wanted.

Review 76:No sign of wi-fi in bedrooms although ther was a network in main pub. Kitchen closed at 21:00 (not unreasonably) so didn't get to try evening meals. Very good reports though!

Review 77:Very picturesque setting and good mix of comfort and genuine features in main pub. Room conversions very well done with "rustic" style translated into hotel bedroom features. Great breakfasts

Review 78:Excellent location and friendly staff. The breakfast was an excellent start to the day and dinner something to look forward to along with a comfortable bed.

Review 79:The room was very comfortable and cosy but perhaps a little on the small side, and quite dark as the windows are small and all but one of the rooms is on the ground floor (which could also be a benefit!). There is no Wifi in the rooms, only in the bar and restaurant.

Review 80:The owners and staff were very welcoming and friendly and the whole experience was very good. The food was excellent - well above average. There is a very attractive garden/patio area, which is a lovely place to sit and/or have a drink!

Review 81:lovely country pub, excellent meals, log fires were cosy, dogs allowed in bar,

Review 82:Squeaky bed !

Review 84:Comfortable room, good food.
