Reviews for Abbeyfield Hotel
Review 1:Bedroom furnishings very low-rent and tired. My bedroom (number 4) must have been right over the bar as noisy until midnight. Located very close to high speed main line railway.
Review 2:Handy for Zipworld. Good big portions of bar food.
Review 3:Bed wasnt that comfortable and breakfast while ok was made with the cheapest of ingredients and selection was a little limited. Did need binoculars to see the TV. Wifi was very slow.
Review 4:Nothing wrong with this hotel - just a little dated and shabby. Perhaps a little overpriced for the quality of hotel.
Review 5:I found the food to be excellent, the ale likewise -as the ale always was in England and Wales. The bartender was really friendly and gave me highly valueable advice for climbing mt.snowdon and getting there. I enjoyed my stay at Abbeyfield.
Review 6:The room was barren. The bed was firm and there were no sheets on the bed, just a comforter which looked used. The bathroom was dark and there was no hair dryer. You had to go downstairs and ask for one. The doors slammed shut and you felt like you were in an old dormitory
Review 7:We had dinner in the pub the evening we arrived. It was good
Review 8:I liked the helpfullness of the staff and also their pleasand and friendly service. The food was excellent both at breakfast and in the evening. The room was extremely comfortable. The overall cleanliness was top class.
Review 9:My wife is a smoker and couldn't go anywhere for a smoke once the alarm for the building was set. Chuckle chuckle
Review 10:An ideal all round base for visitors to the area, clean, comfortable and quiet with very nice staff and good food
Review 11:The room was next to a railway line (they didn't mention that) Breakfast stops too early at 9am. We came down at 9.02am. Dining room locked. No breakfast for us, Paid £70 ..Poor. Creaky tatty average room.
Review 12:The bar evening meal was good .,The steak Ale pie was awesome.
Review 13:The beds in one of the rooms were lumpy and when one of my group mentioned this at check out with The Manager it was not all well accepted. My payment card had started to de laminate mid holiday and as a precaution, hoping to limit further accidental damage, I had opted only to handle it myself when using machines - this request had caused no issue with anyone else I had encountered on my holiday yet was met here with irritation and very poor manners. The Manager interpreted my needs as some kind of personal slight and was incredibly defensive and aggressive - unwilling to listen to my reasons for the request. I told her every aspect of the stay had been great in terms of service, the other staff wonderful, but that her attitude was totally uncalled for - this was met with a loud "Thanks for ruining our day!" directed at me in front of other waiting customers. The whole situation was totally uncalled for - all we had done was make a reasonable comment on our disappointment in one very small area of an otherwise good stay and make a legitimate request to protect the only cash card we had for use for the rest of our holiday. At no time did I raise my voice or say anything unreasonable yet I was treated with total disdain. I really have no major issue with the other aspects of my stay here - merely with the poor attitude of a Manager. Again, I stress - ALL the other staff are 9 or 10 on a scale for customer service and the hotel itself a good stay for the price.
Review 14:The waiting staff in the bar/restaurant/breakfast area were absolutely wonderful and the food was really good. We travelled in a group - one room was comfortable but unfortunately, the other had beds so lumpy they did not allow for a good nights sleep. This aside the accommodation was really nice for the price and in a lovely area :)
Review 15:Listen folks, had doubts about it, however, unfounded - thought price was amazing, staff great customer service and food great - thank you so much to owner who got us packed sandwiches when we were leaving before 7:30 - brilliant stay and will be back! Thanks
Review 16:Close to railway line, very creaky floor boards, smell of room. Above main door so between the train every 30 mins, you had the door being slammed every 10 mins. Self closure on door is a must.
Review 17:Despite everything, room was spotless. Bedding pressed and even a complimentary pair of earplugs :)
Review 18:Poor view from room (rear of property). Noise from washer/dishwasher /utility room under our room from 7am each morning. Every stair and floorboard creaked.
Review 19:Outstanding food, especially the steak pie!
Review 20:We had a room above the bar and our friends had a room by the train line so not the best nights sleep. We were only there for the one night so not so bad but for a longer stay it would become a nuisance.
Review 21:Lovely staff. Home cooked food was very nice (the steak and ale pie was amazing but one huge plate of food!) Brilliant location for zip world.
Review 22:Bed was solid, rail track outside window, doors banging in draft all night, ground floor alarmed during the night so unable to come and go if need be without phone call to staff first to turn off alarms, tinned mushrooms at breakfast. Upon leaving no one asked if we had a nice stay, enjoy our day - nothing. Shame as I would of mentioned the issues face to face!
Review 23:Location was lovely - evening meal and bar both great
Review 24:Poor wifi. No bath. Plug sockets not working on some. Corners of bathroom floor not clean. Inside of bathroom door not clean .
Review 25:Tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast. Location. Meals on offer. TV.
Review 26:The hotel owner was a little abrupt in his manner initially, the bathroom handle in our room was held on with two screws and hanging off, the bed was hard, the hotel is 10 metres away from a high speed railway.
Review 27:The bar is nice and the food is good, breakfast and service in the morning was good. I guess we should not expect too much for a £75 a night hotel, but next time we will pay more and stay somewhere a bit nicer.
Review 28:Breakfast was ok - but coffee cups were really small so I had to keep waiting for a refil. I would have preferred bigger cup or a pot of coffee.
Review 29:A friendly welcome, clean room / bathroom.
Review 30:Nothing
Review 31:The location, facilities and staff were excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel for a "Get Away Weekend". The icing on the cake was value for money.....great!
Review 32:I don't like duvet covers without a sheet underneath. You can't tell if they have been changed from one visitor to the next. It did not seem like they had in this case.
Review 33:Good room, fine breakfast, excellent beer.
Review 34:Nothing!!!
Review 35:We stayed here as we were going to do the zip line at zip world, the hotel was lovely, the location was lovely, very peaceful and the scenery was gorgeous. The staff were brilliant, all very lovely and friendly. The food was amazing!! I'd definitely recommend the steak and ale pie, I've never had a pie with so much filling!!! We were leaving very early the next morning so the cook made us breakfast sandwiches for us to take away. The owner Errol was lovely :-) We will definitely be staying there again! Thank you to all the staff for making our stay great.
Review 36:This is a good old fashioned pub with B&B. The staff and Landlord were very friendly and we had a really enjoyable time chatting with them and the locals in the bar. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious.
Review 37:Decoration a bit tired looking, view from breakfast dinning room not very good looked out on to bins. A few flowers outside would be nice.
Review 38:Nice hotel, very good evening meal
Review 39:Taken to the wrong room twice, both were occupied. Should not keep guests keys as they don't know if rooms are occupied.
Review 40:Not far from hendre hall.
Review 41:Was exceptionally close to a train line but at least the trains went by fast so managed to sleep through the night. TV remote had no batteries.
Review 42:Food was of a good standard
Review 43:If all the beds were like mine, I'd say they need replacing; as it sloped badly to the right. Also again I don't know if it was just my room or the people staying either side of me, but you could here people taking/phone calls like they were in the room with you, plus the noisey floor boards under the carpet, don't help out either.
Review 44:The quality of the food at breakfast and dinner was great and staff were helpful. The location of the hotel was also good in regards to situation in North West Wales.
Review 45:Our room was directly above bar and noise easily travelled. Unable to sleep until 1am Sunday morning.
Review 46:Nice location, friendly staff. Good breakfast and very good evening meals.
Review 47:As a lone traveler I am always looking for somewhere that makes me feel comfortable and secure. Abbeyfields did this and as a bonus the food was fabulous.
Review 48:The real disappointment was the poor tandard of the single bedroom (3) - it was dire. It badly needed a complete refurbishment. Worn wooden surfaces (small desk), overhead mirror light in the bathroom didn't work, no towel rails, bedroom door surface on the outside worn, no drinking glass for water. The entire floor creaked. I tried to complain when checking out but it fell on deaf ears. Value for Money even at 2 star - NO.
Review 49:Overall food was very good in the evening. Staff also good. Service at breakfast a little haphazard. I asked for brown toast but initially got white and the coffee served was dire. I asked for it to be replaced by tea. Porridge though was excellent.
Review 50:Smell in the room, our window was facing the railway and it was really noisy when the trains passed by. Plus we heard lots of noise from the room next to us (our room door was shaking when the kids from next room were running around).
Review 51:Very freindly and helpful staff, good location (we travel by car), clean room and shower
Review 52:No problems.
Review 53:After a long and at times wet day on the Wales coast path it was wonderful to arrive at a warm, clean room. The hotel came up with an evening meal too so no need to go exploring. Great shower, the temperature does not change with changes in the water pressure.
Review 54:Host...excellent company, welcoming and helpful. Staff warm and friendly. I would have no hesitation to recommend this hotel and we will be using it again.
Review 55:I messed up the online booking & only booked for myself, not including my 11-year-old son - but they accommodated him & didn't charge for him - very kind. Good bar & food too.
Review 56:Black mould in the shower, an overall smell of old in the room which I had to just spray deodorant to mask the smell, ancient damaged and very tatty furnature, horrid matress which was cheap to begin with, very old bed sheets that should be burned. The electrical switches and all the plug leads would probably fail an inspection as they are way beyond their due date for replacement. Decor in the room was very very old. I'm talking older than me at a minimum and I'm 33yrs old. Sitting in the room 3 was like sitting in the bar itself it was that loud. Good was ok but nothing to write home about. Just generic cheap mass breakfast sausages etc. Very loud trains that shake the room.
Review 57:Friendly staff, £50 discounted to £40, Wifi (although slow),
Review 58:The only thing I missed was the adapter for electricity and also, when I tried to order a dinner at 8:45 p. m. (and the dinner is served from 7-9 p. m.), there was not the chef of the kitchen to cook it.
Review 59:I really liked the location of this hotel, in the countryside close to the beach, near to Bangor, close to the trips by bus to Snowdonia. I liked the breakfasts, they were quite big. The waitress was very nice to me.
Review 60:I thought the railway being so close would have been a problem, but I slept well. Noise of other guests was a distraction at times.
Review 61:The location was nicely sited for my trip down memory lane. The food was very good, staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 62:It seems a little harsh to point out things that weren't to my liking as it is only a 2 star but still...... The wifi although I had a full signal it was shockingly slow...... The mattresses where rock solid, I like a firm mattress but that was a little hard. And on a couple of evenings the bar closed early as there where not many people in the bar, but if I have made a conscious decision to stay in the hotel evenings for drinks then I'd like to be served until last orders.... We were offered the opportunity to take our beer to our rooms but it's not the same....
Review 63:My brother and I ( 2 bikers) needed somewhere to stay that would give us a good starting point for places to visit in north wales and talybont was perfect..... The twin room was basic but as it was just a place to rest our heads that was fine... Ensuite with plenty of tea and coffee in the room( some places don't give you enough brewing tackle) breakfast was adequate and the bar was well equipped and a decent pint.... But the food served in the bar was excellent.
Review 64:Would've liked a lock on the bathroom door and for tea/coffee facilities to be on a higher shelf. Minor issues
Review 65:Value for money. Pleasant staff. Excellent breakfast
Review 66:Staff very kind we,stayed at Abbeyfield as we were in Bangor for a funeral,we needed taxis at certain times, arrived on time the food was excellent very we'll run hotel would stay there again
Review 67:Rooms very dated, furniture very old and shabby knob missing on drawer, bathroom very sparse no shelve to put your things on, door wouldn't shut properly. Having said that the room was clean, but you wouldn't want to spend more than one night in it, a bit drab and dreary
Review 68:Friendly staff and locals. Food was good and room good enough. I was charged £33 for soup, steak and 3 beers which seems a bit steep. Didn't query it at time as I was rushing to an appointment when I checked out.
Review 69:Just the wi-fi signal being weak.
Review 70:Staff are very friendly, room was more than comfortable, hotel in general was very nice and breakfast was good as well. Its very good value for money and comes recommended.
Review 71:The rooms looked a bit tired and maybe in need of an update in the near future.
Review 72:The staff were very helpful and the food was absolutely superb. I loved the free wi-fi.
Review 73:The family room was small it looked more like a double room and they had stuck an extra bed in it. Also it needs an update it had tacky furniture .
Review 74:The owners were friendly
Review 75:Rooms were a bit outdated but still comfortable and offered everything what we needed for sleeping in:-)
Review 76:Staff was very friendly and helpfull, dinners were served in pub style for a good value, breakfest was well organised and tasty. Location was secluded, but close drive to Snowdonia. It isn't a 5* hotel but it is a great place to stay, if all you need is somwhere to sleep and eat:-)
Review 77:There was nothing I didn't like but to improve the room I was allocated the decor could be freshened up and the bathroom door could be adjusted to ensure it closed properly; but as I was on my own, it didn't matter.
Review 78:Location Staff Food Drink Prices Friendliness Parking Local information leaflets
Review 79:No complaints!
Review 80:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Although hotel was off the beaten track, the menu choice was so comprehensive, there was no need to go elsewhere to eat in the evening. Quality of food was excellent!
Review 81:The room was very dated didn't warrant a night fee of £75. The bathroom and a white toilet and a pink sink and pedestal. The door handle to the bathroom which should have 8 screws holding it together had 2. The room overlooked the railway line which was so close you could read the engine number and see the passengers
Review 82:Breakfast was nice
Review 83:Evening meals too expensive. Asked for quiet room and though we couldn't hear rest of hotel, near us was an air conditioning unit - VERY noisy! Saw member of staff and she said " someone has to have the noise"! A discount would have been appreciated. We were in room 10.
Review 84:Person serving breakfast very helpful. Food good. Bar staff who served evening meal very pleasant.
Review 85:Bed and pillows were extremely uncomfortable, resulting in the worst nights sleep I have ever had. Also right next to a train track which had trains running on throughout the night and early in the morning. Would not stay here again.
Review 86:I believe the hotel needs a face lifting.(rooms, bathroom, decoration, curtains etc)
Review 87:Nice location 10min.from Bangor city by car. Restaurant very good food,
Review 88:But dated
Review 89:Service was outstanding
Review 90:The staff were very helpful and super polite, breakfast was great, the room was clean and comfortable.
Review 91:pillows a little too soft for me.

Review 100:Friendly helpful staff, warm welcome, nice bar, very good food
Review 101:Bad location in terms of noise as it is literally on the rail line
Review 102:Good room with respect to size and comfort
Review 103:Breakfast was below par. Very limited choice of cereal and juice and only one egg.
Review 104:whole place feels a bit tired rooms overpriced
Review 105:nice people good food self contained bar/restaurant
Review 106:friendly staff, made us feel very welcome!
Review 107:This was our 2nd stay here, everyone was really friendly and helpful, food was fantastic, will definitely stay again !

Review 109:there is no laundry available
Review 110:i loved the locattion in which is situated... it gives you a complete rejuvenated feel amidst the beautiful landscapes
Review 111:Friendly and helpful staff.Excellant value for money. Great menu and the quality of the food matched the menu.
Review 112:having to ask for a hairdryer. grumpy manager not able to access wifi
Review 113:Breakfast was ok, however could be better
Review 114:Ideal for Bangor, quiet location.
Review 115:Bar food ok, but overpriced and lower quality than the first time we stayed here, 3 years ago.
Review 116:It was easy to find Abbeyfield Hotel and pleasantly located for parking and to take a small walk out and about.
Review 117:The food was very good especially the steak pie
Review 118:Beds could be better and pillows need renewing
Review 119:Location
Review 120:Bar didn't open until 6.30 and there is nothing in the village.
