Reviews for The Rose & Crown
Review 1:We were with our dog & found that there was not really an area where we could bring her when eating although the staff designated a table for us away from the restaurant which was adequate.
Review 2:location & friendliness of staff. Food & menu were good with excellent choices.
Review 3:DJ playing constant pre-mixed music...got boring after a few hours.
Review 4:Food and staff was very good, both dinner and breakfast. New Years Eve party was good fun.
Review 5:The first room we were shown to had experienced a water leak - and the smell of the wet carpet was obvious as we walked in. On entering the bath room we discovered the source of the leak which was still happening! We should not have been offered this room. We were quickly given the room next door and possibly because of the existing leak - the electric toilet system kept going off at random times - its very noisy!!!
Review 6:The staff were excellent, helpful and friendly The setting is great - easy to find and in a pretty New Forest setting. It's a lovely place to meet up with friends and family and the food is superb!
Review 7:The welcome and positive, helpful attitude of the staff. The accommodation was in an excellent location within easy walking distance to the New Forest and the village of Brockenhurst. The rooms were great just across from the pub and were very quiet. The variety of the food for breakfast and evening meals was good. The lighting in the room could have been a bit brighter for reading.
Review 8:A minor gripe about breakfast; the television was unnecessarily on and showing noisy kids' cartoons, which rather spoiled the tranquil New Forest atmosphere!
Review 9:Booked a family room with a double and two singles as seen in the photo. Arrived and it was two singles and a sofa bed. With 2 teenage boys the accommodation was inadequate. Landlady said it was booking.com's fault as they use any old photo (?) She switched us to a twin room and a "double" on the pub as there weren't other options in the new build area of rooms and we had to oay the difference.Twin was ok, double was tiny - in terms of small double mattress and room size! Sash windiw didn't shut properly and rattled all night. And dour didn't fit with inches missing at the bottom and hall lighting illuminating room like an airport runway throughout the night. Pretty mediocre breakfast. I must say that the staff were helpful and did offer this alternative accommodation but we had to pay more. Surely the photo should reflect the right room when booking?
Review 10:Staff did not know how the wi- fi signal worked properly. The rooms were nice but you could hear the guests in the adjoining rooms. Not pleasant.. The chef could do with a lesson in how to make poached eggs and the cooked breakfast was a little lean.
Review 11:Nice room, nice pub.
Review 12:Shower cool on second morning. Absence of common blended whiskeys available in bar.
Review 13:Comfortable room, separate from main activities of the pub. Friendly staff. Good food.
Review 14:The duvet was too small for 2 people to both be covered all night! On arrival we were barely acknowledged in the bar. However once checked in the staff were pleasant, helpful and friendly.
Review 15:The room was warm spacious and comfortable.
Review 16:We had a comfortable room, perfect for relaxing and away from the pub. The food in the pub restaurant was fabulous and the atmosphere perfect for what we wanted with a good mix of people but not too busy. We had a relaxing weekend in the country, fresh air, bike rides, good food and wine and cask ales, nice people in a lovely place.
Review 17:We had a room facing the main room so could hear the traffic a little. Bed was a little on the small side
Review 18:Great location Nice fluffy towels Good breakfast Friendly staff
Review 19:Overall stay was good, room small but adequate, nice friendly staff, happy to help. Great location for forest walks from Lyndhurst, but nothing to do in Brockenhurst.
Review 20:We had no bad experiences.
Review 21:We thought the location and the courtyard chalet rooms were brilliant. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pub itself was welcoming and inviting. Very central for sightseeing.
Review 22:Good Food , Good Location and the converted stables are very roomy and good to stay in. Staff were helpful and very easy to explore the new forest from this area.
Review 23:Stayed in the actual pub, prefer the outside accommodation.
Review 24:As ever staff were friendly accommodating and helpful. Service was quick and efficient. Love the location.
Review 25:shower needed up dating -Doors/locks needing oiling Traffic on road in village
Review 26:very clean and good service whilst we were there Good selection for breakfast
Review 27:The pub and our room were little tired but more than adequate for a weekend stay.
Review 28:The room was spacious and clean. The staff were very accommodating with our dog. The pub served good food, has a wonderful garden and is in the heart of the New Forest.
Review 29:It was worth nearer £70 than £100, has a few staff training issues that ought to be addressed and the bed was a bit unstable.
Review 30:The room was clean, the breakfast tasted good and the location suited us very well. Good amount of parking.
Review 31:Two problems with food: 1) Dressed Crab was definitely off. I returned it and had nice Battered Haddock instead. 2) Mushrooms for breakfast were out of a tin - in the New Forest, in September! Very disappointing. I also thought the room should have had complimentary items, like tissues, shower gel, etc.
Review 32:Friendly staff, comfortable bed, very convenient location.
Review 33:The fact that it was a pub and we could go straight to bed,the location was perfect as we were participating in the New Forest Orchid charity bike ride which starts and ends in Brockenhurst
Review 34:The cleanliness and size of the room. four poster bed and beamed ceiling. Staff very helpful and polite. Right on the edge of forest good position for walking and accessing other places of interest.
Review 35:The car park was full during Saturday/Sunday meal-time periods.
Review 36:The room was clean and comfortable. The food/drink in the pub downstairs was of good quality and reasonably priced.
Review 37:TV didn't work. Average cooked breakfast. Expensive compared with most places, but not necessarily for the New Forest.
Review 38:Rooms off attractive courtyard behind pub. Spacious room with large sofa, wardrobe, desk and very comfortable beds. Good shower over bath in attractive en-suite. Pleasant staff. Free Wi-Fi - okay for emails.
Review 39:Very cold in bar area. Doors always left wide open in the evening. No comfortable chairs in bar area. Bins being emptied at 5am!
Review 40:Great location and good food
Review 41:Stayed 1 night comfortable room liked bath made a nice change.staff friendly nice family pub accommodation. Would be a bit expensive anywhere else but ok for new forest area as very central
Review 42:The location for a tourist was absolutely excellent, being close to the wild life, nearby villages, forest and horse riding stables. There are also a lovely array of local restaurants and cafe's in the village centre. We'd also highly recommend the indian restaurant.
Review 43:The bedromm we had (former stable I understand) needed some TLC - there was black mould on the window frames. The door lock needed some WD40 as it was very difficult to open. Perhaps a simple bolt would make occupants feel safer during the night especially as the yale type lock did not always close first time
Review 44:Staff were very helpfull & efficient
Review 45:Roof was leaking near our room. Could of had a change of towels for our 2nd day and room could have been tidied.
Review 46:On arrival room was clean and quite large compared to some we have stayed in. Staff were very friendly, breakfast was very good. There was a large beautiful garden, but due to the awful rainy weather we were not able to use it.
Review 47:The kids meals should have plain sausages and not herby ones; a small gripe but I as an adult don't like them and my 8 year old nephew didn't either. Also as it's a family place milkshakes for kids would be good. Not all children drink fizzy drinks or juice. One of the waitresses had the chef make one especially and my nephew was so impressed he said it was the best he'd ever had.
Review 48:The staff were very friendly and very accommodating, nothing was too much for them and everything was done with a smile. The room was clean and the bed very comfy plus we had control of the radiator too for when it got chilly. A great location, literally a 5 minute walk from the station.
Review 49:Wi fi signal wasnt very strong in bedrooms bar toilets could do with a paint.
Review 50:Staff friendly and helpful food was good clean and tidy facilities in bedroom
Review 51:Good range of meals using local produce but the standard of cooking could have been better. Room was nice but a bit stuffy.
Review 52:Very helpful and friendly staff, excellent location which was handy for all New Forest sights, easy to find the hotel and ample parking. Rooms were clean and comfortable.
Review 53:Nothing.
Review 54:The hotel was a good base for walking in the new forest. The evening meals where quite good so it was good to not have to go out to eat elsewhere. The staff were all very good, friendly, efficient and very helpful.
Review 55:We explicitly asked for a quiet room when we booked and were given a room next to the road. I had to wear my trusty ear plugs. Ask for a room in the courtyard.
Review 56:Location.
Review 57:From the moment we arrived we new we were going to enjoy our stay at the Rose and Crown, Brockenhurst, The staff were friendly the room was clean and comfortable and the food was excellent and well priced. We loved eating out in the immaculate garden area as the sun went down in the evenings. We will definitely come and stay again.Thank you
Review 58:The friendliness of the staff at breakfast and check out, and the location was perfect! We came back late from a wedding at Balmer Lawn and the back door to the accommodation area meant no need to disturb anyone! Short walk to Brockenhurst station as well.
Review 59:The staff were friendly and helpful but the wait to be served with drinks and food was far too long my husband queued for half an hour just to put in the order for food
Review 60:The water pump/pipe in our bathroom was very noisy, and it was so everytime we use the sink, the toilet and the bathtub.
Review 61:Rooms were nicely decorated, and quite roomy. TVs in both rooms, though they were kind of small. Good restaurant, with a great alfresco dining area.
Review 62:There were no negatives to our stay
Review 63:The staff were so friendly. The room had all the facilities we needed and was very comfortable. The rooms were a good size and everyone was so helpful. We enjoyed having a glass of wine in the beautiful garden and loved the fact that we could travel all around the New Forest from this central point. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel. This is my second visit and I will come back again.
Review 64:Very over priced for what is effectively a room above a pub. Can only assume it's due to the location, room was dated & in need of a refurb, I've stayed in better rooms for far less. Food was good and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly but couldn't find anyone around in the morning for check out so had to search around.
Review 65:Food was nice, we ate dinner there and staff were friendly.
Review 66:Shower curtains was slightly mouldy at the bottom, affecting the smell of the bathroom when becoming wet during a shower.
Review 67:The staff called us on the day of our scheduled arrival to coordinate check-in timing, which was very kind. Bedroom was ok and there was free parking.
Review 68:Beds uncomfortable & showers could do with some maintenance. They also got all our breakfast orders wrong
Review 69:Dinner was delicious, grounds lovely as were the rooms.
Review 70:Was disappointed with breakfast on second day. Had a great full english on day one then went for scrambled egg and bacon. One serving of egg and one rasher of bacon. Toast was way too thin.
Review 71:Great place to stay. Supplied gluten free bread for my wife.
Review 72:My husband thought the bed was not very comfortable. We both felt that our room needed a small sofa or possibly two small armchairs.
Review 73:Staff were lovely. Food was excellent local good portions and piping hot. The room was very pleasant.
Review 74:Rather strange plumbing with constant noises but with bathroom door shut not a real problem!
Review 75:Room warm and comfortable Good choice at breakfast Helpful staff
Review 76:Nothing really. Only disappointment was no vegan options on the menu, only vegetarian, so perhaps that could be considered for the future?
Review 77:the location is great, accommodation spacious and staff helpful and friendly.
Review 78:Hotel generslly in need of a face- lift, rooms in particular. No razor point in room.
Review 79:Staff excellent as well as food. We had two great evening meals and really good cooked breakfasts.
Review 80:Slightly tired decor in the room and poor pressure to the shower but nevertheless a cosy place to spend the night
Review 81:The staff were extremely pleasant and attentive throughout our stay. Good quality pub food in the evening and a wholesome breakfast next day
Review 82:The only thing I didn't like was that you had to go to the bar to order your food, I prefer table service, but that's just my choice, and it wouldn't put me off.
Review 83:The location was perfect, the beer garden was clean and tidy and was well kept
Review 84:The shower difficult to use and no instructions The dinner on Tuesday 14th not good and breakfast on Wednesday 15th very poor
Review 85:Friendly Staff, the beautiful garden . The dinner on Wednesday 15th good and breakfast on Thursday 16th excellent
Review 86:Bathroom door would not stay closed unless bolted and could then only be opened from the outside.Waited a long time for an over-cooked breakfast.
Review 87:Staff were friendly and polite.
Review 88:the furniture is rather tired that there was'nt a light by the dressing table for putting make up on the room was very dimly lit
Review 89:location was good for us our room was lovely and warm the breakfast was excellent
Review 90:there was no heating at all in the bathroom ,impossible for my wife or I to shower, only a tiny towel warmer, it was freezing, the heating in the bedroom was insufficient a small electric heater was available and the staff gave us extra duvets as a heating engineer I can assure you it needs a radiator in the bathroom and two more in the bedroom, not the best of rooms to stay in during the winter months I am sure it is ok in the main building but the out side rooms not recommended during the winter months.
Review 91:room bed clean in fact spotless food fine
Review 92:... All was a bit oldfashioned and far tooecpensive for what it is. The uk food, confort, furniture... Of the 80s really.
Review 93:Very convenient and quite an experience...
Review 94:I found the room very cold even though there was a large radiator in the room plus a plug in oil radiator i still felt cold but we did go (febuary) other than that enjoyed our stay
Review 95:The staff were very polite & helpful making sure all our needs were met. food was delicous we choose to eat all our meals at the rose & crown even thought there were several other good places to eat i would defantly visit there again
Review 96:I thought I would Hate the whole 9yrds- we were late bookers- this was literally lastChanceHotel ❗️ Would I book again ? Absolutely - the food and staff make up for anything else ✅.
Review 97:The unexpected bonus
Review 98:Tje whole placd
Review 99:The company food was superb the staff where spot on and our room was lovely well done you evwrybody we'll be back lol kaz & nik xx
Review 100:Hot water took a while to arrive but piping when it did arrive.
Review 101:We loved this place. Staff we're amazing. Mikey and the gang do the place great credit. Great value for money and the food was spot on for the family. Try the Ringwood bitters too...
Review 102:The lighting in the bedroom was quite dull but other than that no complaints.
Review 103:Loved the location of the rooms and the courtyard. The pub itself was also really cosy with a warm log fire. Great food and wine too as well as really friendly staff and other customers.
Review 104:I appreciate that staff need time off too but felt the pub closed too early on Christmas evening and boxing night. Would have been more welcoming to return to somewhere that still had the bar open, and fire burning as it had been when we arrived on Christmas eve and guests still around , instead of which we returned to a darkened and silent hostelry.
Review 105:Good location. Rooms were comfortable. Staff at the bar were friendly and helpful.
Review 106:Room dark and draughty, bathroom tired and cold despite heated towel rail, bed small and uncomfortable, lighting poor
Review 107:The location, the food and the village
Review 108:Breakfast was not great, cold & husband's sausage was "off"'
Review 109:Food in restaurant was excellent for evening meal. Staff very friendly & helpful.
Review 110:The drainage in room 1 was a bit on the slow side, it took the water a while to drain in the shower.
Review 111:Lovely place to stay, great food in the pub downstairs - fresh, good size portions. The white chocolate cheese cake was possibly the best we'd ever tasted! Quiet and peaceful, with super cosy beds. Especially enjoyed relaxing by the open fire downstairs.
Review 112:The bedroom was very dark especially around the dressing table. Also two lamps had blown in the bathroom. Very noisy plumbing that woke us up at 2 am. I think the bed was a very small double, also very hard.
Review 113:Very central to Brockenhurst and the staff are extremely friendly.
Review 114:Not one to complain usually.. The bath water was Luke warm, when I did fill it the plug did not fit so drained away leaving me ccccold !! The radiator was cold all night in the bedroom again very ccccold !!!! We told staff and they fixed it the next day, very nice and warm but sounded like water was running through all nite.. On a good note the staff although very young were very polite and very attentive.
Review 115:Location
Review 116:Room was slightly on the small side/poor lay out and a bit dark
Review 117:A lovely friendly Guesthouse, very polite staff, excellent breakfast and very comfortable bed. An ideal base for the New Forest and Dorset Coast
Review 118:Bit slow to be seen to for check in over-cooked breakfast
Review 119:Location Good sized rooms off the courtyard Bowling alley in the function room Friendly staff in the pub
Review 120:When greeted at the reception we had to wait quite some time before a girl with a 'wot eva!' attitude eventually showed us to our room. At dinner one of the waiters interupted us in mid conversation, to ask us if we had finished our meal, which we obviously had not. I think the staff at the Rose and Crown need a little more tuition on how to be courteous to customers.
Review 121:Central to the New forest and the coast. Reasonable price for the area. Room was quite large.
Review 122:Beds and pillows are way too soft. Despite sleeping ok (alcohol induced) I felt the mattress could be much more firm. The wifi signal was poor unless you were in the bar. My room was in the front of the building. For nearly £200 for two nights I would have expected the things above to be much better.
Review 123:I like the rooms overall. Great shower. Friendly staff. Lovely location. Decent breakfast.
Review 124:Basic breakfast - no toiletries in room when paying that sort of money would be nice
Review 125:Our friends have a place close by so this was an ideal location to stay staff friendly although no one on duty late at night if something was to go wrong ie lost keys or an emergency door bell not working we staying in the court yardd which I felt was lovely breakfast was a little basic but ok, would recommend this bed and breakfast
Review 126:Not much sound insulation between rooms: you could hear people talking and their television programmes.
Review 127:Friendly staff, good food, good beer, excellent garden, convenient for station, large car park,check-in from 2pm.
Review 128:I am searching to think so it can be only very minor and nit picking
Review 129:The rooms coming off a garden courtyard. The high character ceiling gave a feeling of spaciousness. The towels were large and soft, The staff always had a smile on their face. The choice of real ales was excellent and the food very tasty.
Review 130:Duvet cover a bit narrow, over-bath shower awkwardly located, had to stand on bath plug to be under shower! Poor breakfast selection, better in Ibis at half the price but no Ibis in the area.
Review 131:Low end of price range for the area (which is generally over-priced), convenient location for eastern side of New Forest. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 132:The room itself was on the small side especially if you were having a long stay Lack of chairs in the room No soap in the Dove containers in the bathroom
Review 133:Excellent staff member who kindly ensured we had a good EARLY breakfast prior to an active event New Reception staff member from New Zealand The pretty garden
Review 134:The room was very quiet and the food in the restaurant was varied and most enjoyable. The breakfasts catered for all tastes. The staff were very helpful and cheerful and added to our enjoyment of our few days
Review 135:none
Review 136:good breakfast.location excellent, have stayed there before, and many times had a meal and a drink over the years.and hope to again.resonable prices, for me very good.robert.
