Reviews for The Corner House Hotel
Review 1:Unfortunately the radiator in our room did not get very warm and so the room was too cold , although we were very warm and cosy in the bathroom and in bed. On the morning we left we had no hot water. Our host was most apologetic and recompensed us generously and did try to get the radiator fixed. It would not put us off staying here again.
Review 2:The food was superb and we were made to feel very welcome. Great atmosphere in the bar area. Nothing was too much trouble.
Review 3:Rooms and bathroom spotlessly clean, and beds very comfy, the breakfast was tasty and presented well, the staff very friendly, overall great value for money.
Review 4:Very close to the road, however, there was a diversion in place during my stay that increased traffic. Once the bypass is complete the road will not be a problem. Can't book in until after opening - 5pm Mon to Thurs and 4pm Friday.
Review 5:Clean and comfortable. Staff were extremely helpful. Breakfast was excellent and they catered for my gluten free request.
Review 6:The location. It was on a roundabout and not at all picturesque
Review 7:This was a lovely hotel with good facilities and staff. We had trouble with the shower which was dealt with immediately. Although they couldn't fix it we were given another room and got our first drink on the house
Review 8:As it was on a busy corner there was some traffic noise early in the morning (but we always travel with earplugs!) Otherwise we simply can't fault it.
Review 9:The bathroom was beautiful and the menu excellent. The meals were good value and the overall cost of the B+B was very reasonable
Review 10:The hotel was a distance from any shops only a garden type shop over the road
Review 11:The hotel was very clean and comfortable . Room was cleaned both days and the staff were friendly and helpful
Review 12:Lovely welcome and great staff and we had a very tasty evening meal in a bar with a great atmosphere. Although rooms were a little small, they had everything you need, were very clean and comfortable. The only downside was the noise from a busy junction right outside the bedroom window and although parking was not onsite, it was just over the road and very safe. We also had a great breakfast the next morning, freshly cooked and very tasty.
Review 13:Stairs are a problem for us 'not so young' travellers.
Review 14:Excellent food, warm, friendly and helpful staff, who willing took our baggage up the stairs for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 15:Spotty wi-fi good in lounge but not in room.
Review 16:Great location for Wensleydale Railway. Nice pub and restaurant in hotel. Free parking at railway station.
Review 17:would have liked an earlier check in. Shouldhavebeen warned about the bedroom beams. We couldn't stand up much in the room and had to bend to get into the bathroom. Also no shower just bath.
Review 18:Excellent breakfast and staff
Review 19:It is close to road so if you're a light sleeper then suggest you request a room further away from the road.
Review 20:Really nice, clean room. Great facilities.
Review 21:The Corner House is on the corner! Very noisy with lorries passing from 4am. Also could hear bar noises from my room. As a stopover needing a good nights sleep, it did not suit me at all.
Review 22:The staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 23:Very convenient off A 1 for overnight stop. Very good evening meal . Nice choice , reasonable prices and a specials board. Very nice staff , and cleanliness . Will certainly stay again .
Review 24:everyone very friendly and helpful nothing to much trouble for them.the restaurant has a very extensive menu and the chefs would put a lot of top restaurants into second place.we stayed for 3 nights and will be going back again soon.david and Margaret Percival 7/8/2015
Review 25:We had room 6 in the attic and the ceiling was extremely low, but there were plenty of warnings telling you that!
Review 26:Beds were comfy, breakfast was good, staff were really accommodating
Review 27:sorry it was the bed too soft for us we prefer a hard bed thats all could not fault it in any other way
Review 28:made welcome from the very start the staff very helpful the atmosphere was very welcoming the decor was very clean and modern very relaxing after a long drive
Review 29:The only big problem was we were in the highest room which was in the roof, we both bumped our heads several times a few times really knocked them quite badly. There really shouldn't have been a room up there it felt as though it was really squeezed in. There was also a low ceiling on the stairs up to the room where my partner cracked his head, there was a mind your head painted on the roof but off to one side in small writing and no hazard tape which I think their has to be. One side of the bed the ceiling was so low I couldn't get in I had to crawl over from the other side of the bed. Also we asked for a shower and there was just a bath.
Review 30:Nicely decorated, clean, staff friendly and breakfast was nice.
Review 31:Hotel is at junction of 3 roads .very NOISEY..you have choice of windowopen with noise or window closed with musty room smell. Its in the rightplace for a pub but wrong place for a hotelBase from music in restaurant felt in room until 1045
Review 32:Hotel is relatively cheap for a reason ...see negative comments.Waitress staff very nice
Review 33:We were in a front room had to have window open as very warm weather very noisy traffic unfortunately but this is just due to road side location
Review 34:Very well maintained lovely furnishings excellent evening meal lovely staff
Review 35:There was nothing bad
Review 36:It is well situated, all the staff are very friendly, and in particular Sandra, they remember your likes and dislikes, and nothing is to much trouble. Also all the food is home cooked fresh and excellent. Excellent value for Money
Review 37:The whole place has recently been renovated in a contemporary style to a very high standard. Our room was modern, very clean and had a comfy bed. The food was great & the staff very friendly. Overall good value for money - we would happily stay there again.
Review 38:A little noise from the road outside, but that's not really the fault of the hotel.
Review 39:Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Really good cooked breakfast. we were made to feel very welcome.
Review 40:Some road & pub noise if you are a light sleeper. Recommend a couple of pints of Black Sheep to alleviate this.
Review 41:Friendly staff, good WiFi throughout and simple home cooked food. Hot shower and modern, clean room. Free parking across the road.
Review 42:Top attic room no 6 was a little claustrophobic. .. thought it would be bigger from the photos. Parts of the room/staircase needs amendement for safety to avoid any sore heads which my partner bumped!
Review 43:Clean modern place but still has character. Staff excellent and breakfast great. Good value and good stop off point.
Review 44:Staff were all friendly, helpful and always smiling. Room was clean and bed comfortable and the best nights sleep I have had in a long while followed by a beautiful cooked breakfast. Can recommend the home cooked evening meals. Great location for York, Harrogate and Fountains Abbey.
Review 45:On a busy road so road noise could be of concern to some. Fairly limited cereal selection at breakfast but cooked breakfast well catered for.
Review 46:Nice and clean, free parking across the road, hot shower, good reasonably priced food, comfortable bed.
Review 47:One tidy downside, was with bedroom being on the front and the traffic noise kept waking me up - but I am a light sleeper. It wouldn't discourage me from staying again though.
Review 48:Food was lovely, staff so helpful helpful and friendly.
Review 49:We travelled with family as three couples and stayed one night at the hotel after a tour around the Black Sheep Brewery in Masham. The location of the hotel was very convenient, the bar area and rooms were clean and modern and we enjoyed both our evening meal and the breakfast the following day. The staff were very polite and the atmosphere was welcoming, it made our weekend all the more enjoyable and we would not hesitate to return. Good value for money too!
Review 50:The hotel has excellent bedrooms, we were lucky to be given a family room that was very spacious. Lovely décor in relaxing colours. Would certainly recommend the Corner House & intend to come again when visiting relatives in the area. The breakfast was so tasty, the staff are lovely, very friendly & helpful. Shame we only had one night there!
Review 51:The attic room we had it was ok but not quite the room I would have picked
Review 52:The warm welcome we got and a lovely friendly environment. The food was presented lovely and a good choice on the menu all home made
Review 53:Nothing!
Review 54:Warm and hospitable welcome, staff friendly and helpful, accommodation superbly appointed and full of character! We ate in the restaurant on arrival....great after a long journey. Breakfast was varied and plentiful....all served ŵith a smile :)
Review 55:The friendly, professional staff; the beakfasts; and the very smart refurbishment, which works extremely well. Great to see an old inn in such a historically important location - think mailcoaches, charabancs and pre-motorway A1 travellers - restored and welcoming once more.
Review 56:Although most of the party slept very well our room was a little hot as it was above the kitchens. The hotel are obviously aware of this and have provided a free standing fan in the room. I just wished we had turned it on before we went to bed. Also the water pressure in our room was not good so couldnt get a shower without it going boiling hot then freezing then no water in a cycle. Presumably as other rooms were using the bathroom. It did only appear to be our room that had the problem though. We would still return again but just request an alternative room.
Review 57:Travelled as 2 families of 4 so had booked most of the rooms. All 4 rooms were comfortable and clean.Staff were very friendly and evening meal and breakfast were fantastic. Good vegetarian choice too. Although there is no car park we parked easily just accross the road to check in and then were also given parking vouchers for reserved free parking in the station car park again just accross the road
Review 58:Friendly staff, most hospitable. Very comfortable bed/pillow. Excellent breakfast. Ate once in the evening and meal was of a high standard. Even had a visit from the Easter Bunny! - very thoughtful touch. Would definitely stay again if in the area.
Review 59:No proper dressing table, having to stand to dry hair as mirror was fixed high on the wall, erratic shower temperature, faulty fixings (the bathroom roller blind was broken and the towel rail fell off the wall.
Review 60:Good breakfast and bar food, friendly and helpful staff, comfortable bed, ideally situated just off the A1
Review 61:Great location , we booked to meet up with our son who is serving in the RAF at Leeming and wanted somewhere nice to stay. The Hotel has recently been tastefully refurbished , the rooms and food were excellent and was only exceeded by the very friendly staff and patrons of the Hotel. Great value for money and recommended to all.
Review 62:Absolutely nothing.
Review 63:The Staff that we met were lovely, the room was spotless, the breakfast was excellent served by a really nice lady. Oh, forgot to say that the bed was really comfortable, just what was needed after a long drive full of roadworks. Will certainly stay again when we visit our family in the North.
Review 64:There was nothing we never liked ☺
Review 65:The staff when we arrived were very helpful. Let us book in before hotel even opened. Very friendly staff and food was very nice,
Review 66:We were looking for an overnight stay for a family Christening in Ripon. Somewhere we could arrive in the evening, eat with a drink and stay and this ticked every box. Recently been refurbished it is clean, fresh and has that personal touch.
Review 67:electric showers WIFI signal needed boosting
Review 68:friendly staff good value food privacy parking clean comfortable Easy to get to A1 and into Bedale and thus the Dales.
Review 69:Stayed at the corner house hotel for one night for my lads passing out parade from Catterick garrison. The location is great and so easy to get to and only a twenty minute drive to the barracks. The food was excellent and the bar fairly busy as it was quiz night , had a great night in bar followed by excellent nights sleep, woke up to a perfect full English. Top marks for a great hotel and great staff will truly recommend.
Review 70:WiFi wasn't that strong BUT you are not alone as many other establishments offer WiFi but have weak or unworkable signal strength.
Review 71:Everything else ............
Review 72:Our room faced onto the road and there was a lot of traffic noise. We were in an annex and I was unable to join the wifi, but didn't try too hard as we arrived late.
Review 73:Friendly staff, very comfortable bed and quality pillows. Roomy accommodation, soft towels, hair drier and toiletries were all appreciated.
Review 74:Room a bit too warm for my personal preference and I suspect a plastic cover on the mattress. Could not avoid some road noise, though it wasn't a sleep-limiting factor as much as the temperature.
Review 75:Staff were marvellous and very helpful indeed, decoration and furnishings very good, food in restaurant for dinner and for breakfast was very good.
Review 76:Rang previous night for a table and told all was good but on asking to go through to restaurant were told it was booked for the evening. No problem but would have preferred to eat in the restaurant.
Review 77:Room great with a kitchenette, bed so comfortable. Food delicious and such good value and staff so friendly and helpful.
Review 78:Nothing
Review 79:Not knowing what to expect on arrival, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome I received. That was the start of a perfect stay. Staff were very friendly, food was excellent, the place was absolutely spotless. Never seen a place so clean. The room was comfortable for a good night sleet, and the breakfast set you up for the day ahead. Would recommend the Corner House to anyone, and will be going back myself, for sure.
Review 80:Hot water took along time to come through in bathroom sink and shower although great was a little annoying to get the ideal temperature.
Review 81:Location was ideal as have family in both towns next to hotel. Excellent value for money. Really friendly staff and great food.
Review 82:I stayed in the new room 7 which had little or no wireless signal/connection and the TV picture was continually pixelated and un-watchable. Hot water also only lasted a couple of minutes in the shower, this would not therefore be good for a couple or family. This room also next to a very busy and noisy road which had not caused issue on my previous stay.
Review 83:Friendly staff, excellent food, pleasant atmosphere, very good value
Review 84:Wonderful service, food, drink, accommodation and value for money; I will be staying here again and would highly recommend to anyone travelling around North Yorkshire - SUPER !
Review 85:Traffic noise - room right over the traffic roundabout. Extremely small room - Number 3. No dressing table or desk to work. Parking across the main street. Poor breakfast - No fruit, yoghurt, porridge, one worker doing everything. Certainly not a 9.1 review.
Review 86:Clean and reasonably equipped but extremely compact. Reasonably priced so expectations were not too high but review overrated the quality.
Review 87:Shower lacked power however unable to allow management to redress asonly staying one night
Review 88:Friendly welcome, exceptionally clean and fit for purpose great eveningmeal, British Fare, well cooked and presented + excellent portions.Similarly breakfast was excellent
Review 89:Hotel staff where super friendly and helpful, room was spotless and comfortable, food in the pub was excellent and very well priced and the beer on tsp was first class , couldn't find a fault with the place next time am in that part of the uk will book again .
Review 90:We had our evening meal in the hotel and it took 1 hour to receive our starters. However, after highlighting this we were given a bottle of wine on the house which always makes things better :) Low ceiling in attic room, watch your head!
Review 91:Nicely decorated, comfortable rooms and good food.
Review 92:We were unfortunate to have a bathroom bulb shatter and the fire alarm went off for a few seconds late at night but this could happen anywhere and didn't detract from what is a lovely well run hotel.
Review 93:The standard of cleanliness and facilities for a small hotel were very high. Breakfast was first class.
Review 94:nothing !
Review 95:The Corner House leads the field in the 'pub with rooms' market, it's a shining example of how to get it right. It's as comfortable as any hotel. The food was great and the service was fantastic.
Review 96:We only booked the day before so can't complain really. However we had the attic room which although was fairly spacious my partner -who is 6'2 couldn't stand up straight in the room because of the sloping roof. Also the bathroom had no shower and the bath was very awkward to get in and out of as it was under the low part of the ceiling. The bathroom could do with redesigning to accommodate a shower. Having said that we will probably return if we are in the area!
Review 97:Very nice and clean. Comfortable beds and clean bedding. Staff were very pleasant. The location was good, not far from the A1. Breakfast was good.
Review 98:As said above, bread and perhaps a chair in the bedroom.
Review 99:Refurbishment done with thought. Modern, comfortable, excellent staff. Would definitely recommend and stay again to break a long journey. Suggest a chair in the bedroom, also better quality bread, perhaps offer of brown. Minor comments but would improve an already excellent hotel.
Review 100:The only downside is the location as there isn't much in Leeming Bar itself but although the hotel is on the main road you really couldn't hear any noise from our room.
Review 101:We recently stayed here and had a lovely relaxing night! The staff are excellent- nothing is too much trouble and the hotel room was lovely- modern , spotlessly clean & extremely comfortable. We ate there at night & the good was a very high standard especially the steak pie which was full of gorgeous meat which we couldn't manage to eat after our wonderful starters! Breakfast was great too- lovely bacon .
Review 102:Traffic. But we live in the country and don't have any traffic, so we would hear it anyway!!
Review 103:A great wee find!!. Accommodation was excellent. The staff were lovely. Evening meal was fantastic value and almost too much food!. Breakfast was excellent. Location ideal. Would definitely recommend.
Review 104:Noise from passing traffic at night - I didn't expect so many heavy lorries to be passing by so late at night.
Review 105:Staff were great, meal in the evening was delicious, breakfast was very good. Room was comfortable.
Review 106:Not enough in the surrounding area . 2 1/2 pubs and not even an Indian take away. But we did have a beautifully kept hotel.
Review 107:As a keen cyclist ,I was riding the Riopn Sportive 104 mile bike ride the next day.A lovely bed to rest my aching legs on.We were allocated a comfortable room and given a packed lunch the night before as I would be leaving before breakfast. Good meals,Pub food and service
Review 108:At first horrified by location opposite old railway yards and on a very busy corner also that we arrived early expecting the hotel bar/coffee lounge would be open. Had to drive towards next town to find a pub open for lunch. Also had to park our car across the street, glad on this occasion we didn't have all our cases with us.
Review 109:What a surprise, when we returned at 4pm the lady was so friendly and welcoming. The hotel had obviously had a recent refurb and the room was clean and extremely comfortable. We also had a light dinner in their extremely busy bar/restaurant, which was delicious.. the waiter kept appearing anxious that we were ok. The breakfast was tasty and presented by the friendly lady. We chose this hotel because it would allow easy access to watch the Tour and it suited us perfectly. It is ideal for an overnight when travelling, but unless a railway buff the position is not what you would call scenic.
Review 110:The hotel is on a small roundabout and you have the choice of peace and quiet but very hot (in the summer) with the windows closed or lots of traffic noise with them open.
Review 111:Good food, great beer, lovely staff and comfy rooms.
Review 112:The rooms were ridiculously hot, especially room 6,and the traffic noise was bad due to the pubs position on a junction. Its a shame, because everything else was great, the owners need to seriously consider installing airconditioning and double glazing.
Review 113:Very clean and nicely furnished pub with accommodation, really nice staff and great food,
Review 114:I prefer a king sized bed and another table to put a case would have been handy.
Review 115:All the staff were keen to attend to whatever we wanted in spite of the fact we arrived to check in during the weekly quiz and it was very busy.
Review 116:We loved the friendly staff led by Sandra,They simply could not do enough to make our stay during the Tour de France so welcoming and enjoyable.Great weekend.
Review 117:HAVING TO LEAVE AND GO HOME
Review 118:STAFF VERY NICE FOOD VERY NICE BEER AND SOFT DRINKS VERY NICE BEDROOMS EXCELLENT LOCATION CENTRAL WOULD STAY AGAIN TOMORROW BEST PUB HOTEL IN TOWN
Review 119:The radiator in the bedroom did not work.
Review 120:Good standard dining room and meals.
Review 121:Clean and very comfortable bed. Friendly staff Hearty breakfast
Review 122:Really nice place, rooms beautifully decorated and clean.
Review 123:No access to a shower however a bath in the morning was some what refreshing.
Review 124:I liked the homely feel
Review 125:Bedroom a little small but adequate for a weekend.
Review 126:Good location ,not far from the sea. Wonderful breakfast.
Review 127:Very friendly staff and quAlity accommodation.
Review 128:Lovely staff, comfortable room. Second time I have stayed.
Review 129:Didn't get the chance for breakfast due to having to leave before it was available
Review 130:Excellent staff and high specification accommodation
