Reviews for Dalgair House Hotel
Review 1:Greg was very helpful and cooked a great breakfast. We stayed three nights and our room was cleaned and tidied very well each day. Very warm and quiet on the top floor. Great value accommodation and bar meals.
Review 2:If I had to nit-pick I would say the lighting could be better on the staircase, those with visual impairments (like myself) might find it a little too dim
Review 3:The staff were simply super, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Full Scottish breakfast was very tasty (exceptional black pudding) and there is lots of choice for those who cannot manage a full breakfast.
Review 4:The chairs to sit in for breakfast. Too low for comfortable eating and too soft. Spoilt the breakfast experience
Review 5:The location was good bed comfortable and breakfast tasty not greasy nicely cooked
Review 6:Dalgair House Hotel in Callander is a public bar, situated on the main street, with several en suite bedrooms. Parking at the rear is convenient . The service from the waitresses at breakfast was polite and efficient and the breakfasts were satisfactory. Unfortunately, the rooms given to ourselves and our friends were of a poor standard compared to similarly or more cheaply priced accommodation during our walking holiday. The building had the appearance of being somewhat neglected, the carpets seemed dirty and in the rooms ,the bed linen so well used, it was difficult to determine how recently it had been laundered. Following a 20 mile walk, we found that the room had not been cleaned, towels had not been changed and bins not emptied. After a complaint was made, the proprietor gave us fresh towels and offered to have the room cleaned immediately. Unfortunately we had a meal booked and only had a short time to get ready so the room was required at the time. It had not been touched when we returned almost three hours later. All of the above was offered as feedback to the proprietor who defended the standard as being suitable for the price charged and matching Scottish Tourist Board two star rating. He agreed to 10% off the room charges after a discount was requested. While we did not expect luxury at this hotel, we did expect cleanliness and in that regard were disappointed. We would not recommend this accommodation.
Review 7:Good car parking and helpful waitresses at breakfast.
Review 8:Rooms were filthy and obscure, mould in the bathroom, out of date crackers and dirty kettle. The worst part - people visiting the bar downstairs shouting and swearing outside the window so we couldn't sleep and complained twice to the manager - he did nothing about it and we had to wait until his guest leave the property at 1:20 am to go back to sleep!!!
Review 9:Nothing
Review 10:Food amazing the staff can't do enough for you during your stay always made to feel very welcome and will return to celebrate new year with lovely people !
Review 11:The shower was terrible hard to control the temp. and . holes in wall where old shower had been. Carpets and towels dont look clean ,they are past there best. light bulb in toilet not working and does not appear to have a working fan in toilet and no window.AND NOT ENOUGH TOILET PAPER SUPPLIED.
Review 12:Loved Callender, bed comfortable and tv and kettle in room
Review 13:Faint smell of cigarette smoke in room. Downstairs bar not very inviting. No wifi in room.
Review 14:Room clean and comfortable, decent breakfast. Off-street parking available.
Review 15:Nothing.
Review 16:A warm welcome, friendly, helpful and extremely hospitable owners and staff, comfortable surroundings, good food with plenty of choice, lots of live entertainment.
Review 17:the owner and staff couldn't have been better...the hotel mabey could do with an update, however the facilities were more than adequate...lots of hot water, nice and clean...very comfortable..
Review 18:The cold water tap in the bathroom ran cold at first, then hot, so so hard to cool bath down. Bulb needing replaced in bedside table lamp.
Review 19:Rooms were private and comfortable. Staff were lovely and accomadting.
Review 20:The service at check in was OK but after that it was very poor. We waited over twenty minutes at an empty bar for lattes we had ordered nearly making us late for our event. The room was damp and mould was growing on the walls. Shower had poor water pressure so came out as a dribble and I was unable to use it as it was either boiling hot (very unsafe) or ice cold. The service at breakfast wasn't good either, slow to acknowledge we were there and unable to take an easy order of 4 frys without leaving our table and returning later with a note pad which wasn't even used. After all of that, to be charged £69 for one night is ridiculous! My friend who had booked a single room ended up being charge nearly £100 for a last minute change which was undue for the cost of one extra breakfast. As we found out by walking up and down Callendar there are plenty of other nicer looking and cheaper b&b to choose from. I would avoid at all possibilities. Camping would have been better!
Review 21:The bed was comfy
Review 22:Rooms left a lot to be desired especially one of them. would have been a lot better if cleaner and a bit more up to date. Also the cold water ran warm had to buy bottled water.
Review 23:liked the actual place, people nice and loved the views
Review 24:Room above bar where there was a disco so it was very noisy till after 1am. We weren't warned about this, but when we complained in the morning we asked not to be charged because of our very poor night's sleep and so far we haven't been charged, I'm pleased to say.
Review 25:I did have to get my own loo paper from the cupboard opposite. Not bad but slightly eccentric. I didn't care but others might.
Review 26:Quiet during my weekday stay. Very helpful staff at breakfast. Easy to get to places. Clean and comfortable. Would suit young family not looking for luxury, but wanting good value.
Review 27:The whole place has a very dog earred appearance and feel. Fixtures and fittings in the bedroom were archaic. Windows which can be fully opened on above ground floor level should be secured to prevent accidental falls by children and the intoxicated.
Review 28:Dinner and breakfast was very good and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Review 29:Room was unkempt and dirty. Holes in the walls with paper hanging off. Uncomfortable bed with no headboard and unclean bedding. Tape holding back of wardrobe together. Bathroom was not very clean and shower was useless. Carpets needed a good hoover and clean. The tiny tv was useless. Infact whole room could do with being scrubbed and refurbished. Room was above the bar and was extremely hot I slept poorly on top of the covers on a towel. The manager didn't even take us to our room he handed me the key and gave us directions. I wished I had not paid on arrival or had been brave enough to ask for a refund. I stayed out of the room as much as possible.
Review 30:Callander was lovely been there loads of times. Breakfast was ok but bar area was unsuitable to eat breakfast in. Hotel was situated in a good place.
Review 31:Only trouble I had was locating the property, not easily recognised amongst a number of other B&Bs etc. from the roadway as you drive through, and I was not the only one. I parked and went for a walk down the street and found it that way.
Review 32:In a small pub/guesthouse, simple pub food, in the middle of town. Nice ambience, nothing flash, just simple and honest.
Review 33:Very friendly. Room and en-suite a good size. Room over a public bar but we were warned on arrival that there would be live music in the evening - which we enjoyed. Car parking/evening meal available.
Review 34:breakfast was spot on as i usually don't have a cooked breakfast, however the quality of the food was good. Room size good for my cat swinging practice.
Review 35:Supposed to be quiet room but room on street side and noisy when pub closing time. Avoid room 1 if you are light sleeper or have kids.
Review 36:Breakfast was good and size of family room, we've had meal in Dalgair on previous visit and was good.
Review 37:Everything the staff were very friendly and welcoming. the hotel was clean and the room had large flat screen TV tea and coffee provided and was quiet and comfortable
Review 38:Helpful Staff. Easy to find.Lively atmosphere.I left my camera behind in a drawer in the bedroom. After contacting the hotel it was sent on to me in a jiffy bag by registered post for which I am very grateful.
Review 39:The room was in need of refurbishment and bore little resemblance to the photo on your site. The bathroom had black mould and the bedding was old.
Review 40:The location was great and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. If the room was overhauled it would be a nice place to stay.
Review 41:kitchen fans located under bedrooms. Constant smell of cooking, bar also under rooms so constant noise. Very noisy at bar closing 12-1am
Review 42:Good location...nice Bistro
Review 43:Staff weren't overall friendly or attentive to our needs. Breakfast was poor and very little choice. The staff never asked if we had everything we needed or if things were ok...
Review 44:The location
Review 45:Room needed work e.g broken shelves in cupboard. Decor was poor and DIY jobs badly done. No protective covers on pillows and bedding was below standard. Also carpet in bathroom not a good idea.
Review 46:The room was very clean and staff were friendly and helpful
Review 47:Family room located above pub with disco booming bass until after 1.30 am in the morning. Room poor standard and facilities definitely in need of modernisation... damp on walls and ceilings. Didn't stay around for breakfast so couldn't comment on food
Review 48:Only the bar has wifi but not the rooms. I liked the books but I don't think my room was cleaned during my stay apart from the bed being made up.
Review 49:Really lovely stuff and the place is nice.
Review 50:Out of date facilities Very tired decor Needs total modernisation wiring in poor state PAT tests not up to date
Review 51:Staff very friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible. Breakfast was good
Review 52:The room I stayed in was extremely noisy + would have been as well sleeping in the bar. The breakfast was poor.very greasy.
Review 53:The rooms were nice + clean.hotel was central.
Review 54:We were above kitchen & bar which meant the noise from there went on till the small hours. Also smokers stood right below our window talking loudly and smoke blowing into our room which annoyed us as we aren't smokers. Breakfast was crammed onto plate and order taken even before we sat down at table.
Review 55:The young girl who served is during our stay was very attentive and lovely
Review 56:When I arrived I was given my room key & told the room number & had to find my own way there. The owner never asked if I was enjoying my stay or if I needed anything. The bed was hard as were the pillows, the shower didn't work right, the curtain was hanging of at one end & let in the morning sunlight. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Review 57:The staff were friendly & helpful. I enjoyed my breakfast every morning I was there.
Review 58:Our room was above the bar, which was very noisy even though it was a Monday night. First thing in the morning we cancelled the second night as we wanted to move somewhere that we could get some sleep. We were refused a refund. Also, the room was extremely shabby and the shower was barely luke warm. Really unpleasant experience unfortunately! Moved across the road to a lovely B&B which cost just £5 more and was a totally different experience! Definitely wouldn't recommend Dalgair House hotel if there is anywhere else available.
Review 59:The only issue is the noise from the bar - we expected this and planned for it accordingly. The walls are a bit paper-thin between rooms, so remember not to shout!
Review 60:This hotel is exactly what you expect. It is a bar with comfortable rooms and very very nice staff. The breakfast was exceptional value for money and, in general, the food was very tasty. We ate in the evening and were not disappointed, either with the price or the taste.
Review 61:Can't fault anything about our stay here, definelty value for money . It's old fashioned but comfortable and the breakfast next morning was excellent and huge!!
Review 62:Nothing really. Music from bar was a little loud but wasn't too intrusive and didn't keep us awake!
Review 63:Friendliness, great food, very comfortable; will definitely go again. No airs and graces which gave it a most amiable atmosphere.
Review 64:It's basically a pub with rooms above. The pub was quite noisey but I couldn't hear much of it in my room. However, My window overlooked the entrance alleyway, this is where everyone comes out to smoke and talk and shout to their pals. It was fine when the pub was shut and they all went home by about 2am.
Review 65:There was nothing wrong really. The room was quite big as was the bathroom. It had everything you need. The breakfast was excellent.
Review 66:The wifi you could only get in the bar area not in the rooms. The rooms are very dated and have carpet in the bathroom. We was near the bar so was very noisy even though it was a Sunday. Was loud till around 2am and ended with a ambulance being called to the bar as somebody got injured. The bathroom was above the kitchen or something as stunk of fried food.
Review 67:The staff were very friendly
Review 68:Uncomfortable bed the noise from the bathroom extractor fan was deafening large step into the bathroom noise from drunks under the bedroom window breakfast wasn't very nice but the dogs enjoyed the bacon and sausage we took out in napkins
Review 69:Dogs were welcone
Review 70:Very little. Once my room wasn't made up and some of the seats could have been more comfortable.
Review 71:Well run friendly local hotel well located for local amenities. Great value for money. Good sized bright rooms and a great atmosphere in the bar.
Review 72:Not obvious where the car park is on arrival. Check-in / check-out a bit sloppy - the public bar doubles as reception.
Review 73:Good breakfast included. Evening meal available and was nicely cooked. Friendly staff and locals in the bar. Traditional building, good size room, comfortable bed and clean. Décor generally dated, but can't argue for the price.
Review 74:Rooms need a makeover especially the bathroom. Was expensive for the quality of the room we received but I have seen rooms at the same place available for much less on other dates so maybe we were just unlucky with the price.
Review 75:Good central location, adequate private parking, the staff were friendly and helpful
Review 76:Poor breakfast. No wifi in the room Yes is noisy! Workaround: stay at the bar downstairs till the music stops playing (1-2am) and then go upstairs :)
Review 77:The room was quite big (4 persons on my group). Good value for money. Friendly staff.
Review 78:The bathroom needed an overhaul. Goodness knows when the shower curtainhad last been cleaned. Paintwork shabby but you get what you pay for.
Review 79:The staff were helpful. Booking.com had messed up our booking and notsent confirmation so there was only one room vacant not two. The staffarranged alternative accommodation for my son. Ok because he is 30 butnot good if it had been my elderly parents.
Review 80:Hotel didn't look very inviting from the outside. The reception/bar area was very drab and dirty looking. Room was ok although we overlooked the entrance passageway so people were talking and smoking quite late. Would not choose to stay there again.
Review 81:The breakfast was very nice.
Review 82:the room was above average, very clean and comfortable. bathroom had good facilties and also clean and fresh. perfect for my one night stay. very good cooked breakfast in the morning. wouls stay there again.
Review 83:dilapadated rooms .. basic.. but there was a bath :-) a bit noisy room being above bar entry ..
Review 84:Good price ... lovely breakfast ... very friendly staff ... very central.. car park ..
Review 85:The bar food was awful but breakfast ok. Room adequate but was woken at 6am by a delivery to supermarket over road.
Review 86:Cheap hotel.ok for 1 night. Locals generally friendly
Review 87:We were 1st offered a room which had damp walls with the wallpaper hanging off, and 70s decor. The 2nd room wasn't much better. The whole hotel had a horrible musty smell which was horrible. The Hotel needs a major investment to bring it up a reasonable standard. You have been warned.
Review 88:This hotel had all the facilities we needed. The room was quiet and comfortable and the breakfast good. The publican was very helpful when I had some initial trouble connecting to WiFi.
Review 89:Poor cleanliness, poor quality of bedding (bobbly and rough to touch, felt unclean) and wrong size duvet only just touched the edge of the bed., noise, can of drink delivered inside the glass you were to drink out of. Mould stains on the tiles in bathroom and also mould stains on shower curtain!! The whole of the accommodation would welcome a lick of paint and some tlc, very tired looking.
Review 90:Location, centre of Callendar was ideal. Point of interest, no prints or decorative items in room but we did have a very ornamental plastic plant placed high on top of the curtain pelmet which made us smile.
Review 91:The staff tried but with widows that didn't close so the noise from the smoking crowd stopped any chance of sleep rooms were unkept , with very low quality bedding on damp smell throughout .very disappointed start to our visit to Scotland
Review 92:Only that it was on the main street, since I generally prefer being away from the traffic. But the booking was made in a hurry and this is certainly not a criticism of the hotel. The room was actually round the back and nice and quiet.
Review 93:Simple but clean and comfortable room. Welcoming staff who didn't fuss about late arrival owing to airport delays in Edinburgh. Nice bar open till late. Excellent breakfast.
Review 94:Noise!!!! Dated accomodation Position in town Pricey given the position and noise level. Avoid if you like a good nights sleep!
Review 95:Convenience to highlands
Review 96:Very poor decoration, very poor furnishings, very poor accessories. Breakfast poor served in the bar, old dishes used extremely disappointed with general standard of cleanliness! for money paid!
Review 97:Location
Review 98:Towels not renewed each day Slippery bath mat in the bath. I had a fall in the bath and hit my hand on the taps because of the mat. This is still sore after 4 weeks.
Review 99:The rooms are located above the entrance to the bar. Entrance standing smokers drunk and talking loudly very high until 1:30. Beds mattresses decades old. Springs strike the body and can not sleep. Place considerable importance of the bar is well above the rooms, service and cleaning as well.
Review 100:The free parking
Review 101:The poor untidy condition of the hotel and the dirty bedroom.
Review 102:The location and the price. The food in the "back bar" was good and value for money.
Review 103:The hotel is very tired and needs redecoration throughout along with a really good clean. The room rate was fair in comparision to other hotels on the Main Street however their facilities and cleanliness were much better. It would be a shame not to get repeat business or recommendations due to decoration and cleanliness when both oof these can be quickly rectified with some fresh white paint and elbow grease.
Review 104:The food, entertainment and staff were all good along with a very comfy bed and bedding.
Review 105:It would be hard to find anything good to write about this Hotel apart from the staff that were friendly and tried hard. The room was tired with most of the surfaces needing restored. En suite toilet never flushed properly. Never Ever come to stay here at the weekend if you are allocated room 4. Room 4 is directly above the bar and as such you can hear everything. The brilliant idea of then having a karaoke night on a Friday in the bar with the local X-factor rejects competing to see who can sing the worst defies belief. The noise from downstairs means that it is impossible to get any sleep until after 2am . Saturday night with the live band is almost as bad but fortunately finishes about 1am. Either run a hotel for the guests comfort or run a bar for the locals but this attempt to combine them is a shocker if you are a guest. My advice- stabbing yourself in the eye with a sharp pencil would be more pleasant than staying here over the weekend
Review 106:Staff tried hard and were friendly
Review 107:Friendly ,local to what we went for parking for car x
Review 108:Great breakfast and friendly staff. good location for shopping in Stirling
Review 109:Food cheap & tasty staff very nice!!!
