Reviews for Buchanan Arms Hotel

Review 1:The spa facilities and breakfast, room and ensuite were spacious and modern. The room was cold but staff delivered a heater and blankets straight away. Great location r exploring Loch Lomond

Review 2:Showers in the Spa weren't warm enough. Unable to book therapies as Haven staff were not in hotel at requested times.

Review 3:Very friendly and welcoming staff.

Review 4:Not a lot. The changing rooms at the pool could do with a bit of upkeep . Also no slip mat when having a shower.

Review 5:Great hotel enjoyed the spa and pool. Will definitely be back for another trip.

Review 6:As usual room was lovely and spotless, swimming pool and facilities were spot on, full marks for breakfast - best smoked haddock & poached egg i have tasted

Review 7:Been a few years since I was here and went to the entrance by the main door only to hit a dark planter however no damage done. Would be better if they blocked that entrance off completely and just access the car park from the boti one.

Review 8:Good location, east to find. Warm welcome, ease of registration. Nice restaurant and staff excellent. Like the snug bar, again great staff. Very comfortable room and bed.

Review 9:Nothing bad to say

Review 10:The general ambience was very good. Staff were all very polite, friendly and helpful ( particular mention goes to waiter in evening restaurant area) Overall a very comfortable stay and will certainly visit again

Review 11:We slept in room 11 and and hardly got sleep as a result of the guests above wandering about all night on a very creaky floor . Our bedroom was outdated and needed refurbishment . It didn't live up to the website blurb .

Review 12:The staff were very helpful ,polite and cheerful . The leisure facilities were excellent as was the spa . The breakfasts were very good with a great choice . The hotel in general was clean .

Review 13:Quiet area, great for relaxing with beautiful surroundings! Golf course near by and some great pubs. Spa was fantastic as well Food and drink excellent, cannot fault this location!

Review 14:Only the fact people regularly stood smoking on steps at entrance to hotel

Review 15:Amazing food and friendly service. Couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough. Super pool and gym looked good. How many places do you go these days that change the menu every day? Felt relaxed and at home in this hotel and I'm not easy to please.

Review 16:Heating is controlled by hotel ie on a timer. Our room had thermostatic ally controlled radiators yet the heating does not go on until hotel decides. Pool area hsd a number of tiles missing, dangerous! Breakfast was like a school canteen queuing for food

Review 17:Nice loation and public areas very relaxing and comfortable

Review 18:No brandy at the bar. Rooms during stay were given very quick service. Coffee / tea not replenished. Dirty cup left.

Review 19:The location. The fact it had a homely feel to it. The food and service were excellent.

Review 20:My partener snd I were not happy with the room gor the price we paid. It was so small and slanted roof caused a big problem. Bumped into it a few times. Tv ariel wasnt working. Receptionist offered us a twin room which wasnt suitable.

Review 21:Staff were so helpful and friendly. Food was eexcellent.

Review 22:but rooms small and over priced. Old fashioned and not worth the money at all. Not the kind of hotel we like. Poor quality, barely 3*

Review 23:Leisure centre lovely

Review 24:The health spa is old and very small and the breakfast was not well presented

Review 25:The location is perfect, near the Drymen square and all of the bars and restaurants

Review 26:Excellent hotel - efficient checkin, comfortable and newly renovated room, pleasant and friendly staff, and first class breakfast. The swimming pool and health club was also a huge bonus, and great after a long drive. Perfect hotel for a one night stop on a road trip.

Review 27:The room was dated. Carpet needed renewed. Wet paint signs everywhere in corridors. Bathroom door breaking up at bottom. Spiders all over Windows inside and out

Review 28:The leisure and spa facility. Also the main meal at dinner was lovely

Review 29:TV reception was very poor and room was a bit overpriced I thought.

Review 30:Very nice hotel with great facilities. Nice and relaxed atmosphere and staff were very friendly.

Review 31:Only thing I didn't like was there were three staff in the restaurant who were all standing chatting over the hot food , couldn't help thinking the hair won't fall into it as it wasn't tied back ,

Review 32:Location hotel staff very friendly, very clean been to the Buchanan Arms before

Review 33:The WiFi in the hotel is very intermittent we were unable to access it during our stay

Review 34:A stunning location with great amenities friendly staff and clean hotel.

Review 35:The walls and ceilings are thin so take earplugs! We could not get a Wifi signal in our room.

Review 36:Nice big room and huge comfy bed. Breakfast was good and the location excellent.

Review 37:Hotel caters for parties "en-masse" e.g. Coach, wedding parties. Dinner menu food was pre-plated so not freshly prepared. No bottled water in bedrooms. Hotel in need of modernisation.

Review 38:Great location for access to local eateries & Loch Lomond.

Review 39:The hotel is in process of a refurbishment with our room being in need of updating. The leisure facilities need a little maintenance work but were great.

Review 40:Staff were very friendly and nothing was a problem. They created a very welcoming atmosphere.

Review 41:I have stayed at the hotel 3 times over the last 5 years and have not yet had a comfortable bed. Either too soft, uneven or two small beds joined which was hard.

Review 42:A nice traditional hotel in a nice village. Everyone was friendly and the breakfast was good. I also liked the bar which was small but had character and was reasonably priced.

Review 43:noisy ceilings & walls - i could actually hear the noise when people walk or talk. mostly we didn't have wifi connection in our room, if we had then it was extremely slow

Review 44:good breakfast, spa & good service

Review 45:medium rare steak came well done - was offered a replacement but be sure you insist if it matters!

Review 46:charming old style hotel with very friendly staff. Close to range of bars in the village for a varied night out. good breakfast bar of hot & cold food. No wedding that day, could be busy so ask for quiet room if you aren't partying.

Review 47:We missed all the tartan that was in the bar area before it was renovated. It gave a lovely Scottish charm - we also hated the loud music videos played in the bar area.

Review 48:We loved our room and dinner and enjoyed breakfast the next morning as well. Drinks in the lounge scotch tasting was lovely!

Review 49:Not very good choice of breakfast cereal, cooked breakfast not very good quality.

Review 50:Bedroom very good size, lovely big bed excellent for mid range hotel. Very clean & comfortable.

Review 51:Absence of lifts.

Review 52:Very friendly and homely with a delightfully Scottish feel. The location is perfect. The leisure facilities, although compact, are an added bonus.

Review 53:The portions of the food in the restaurant were very varied from night to night and the pasta dish was way over priced compared to other main courses.

Review 54:No spin dryer in swimming pool area for wet clothes.Didnt use hot sink tap as it was 130 bar pressure, water all over the floor.

Review 55:Room was nice, swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi. The people there were very nice and professional.Lovely and warm.

Review 56:Having to go home!

Review 57:We liked the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. The varied menu catered for all tastes and the spa treatments really make you relax and forget work

Review 58:The hotel is a rabbit warren of stair and corridors. We are a very long walk and lots of stairs away from the main part of the hotel, The wifi barely works. We were attending a wedding and the staff were a little over eager to clear rooms before guests had left them and the same with clearing plates away when guests were still eating!

Review 59:Great location for exploring Loch Lomand and surrounding area. Hotel is nice enough. Decent enough breakfast Nice size room with tea and coffee making facilities.

Review 60:We were told we would be given a family room, as we had paid extra for this. However, we were given room 9, a small room even for a double, a bed was put in it for our daughter and we could hardly move in there. Even one of the members of staff who delivered some drinks were surprised how small it was. The noise from the room above was terrible! We could here every word that was being said, I thought there was an elephant above walking with nob nailed boots on! We were eventually moved to a larger and quieter room, however the reception staff were appallingly dismissive about our problem, even to the point of trying to tell us that it's an old building and it creaks!

Review 61:The pool was lovely, the location was great. The breakfast (when it came) was ok.

Review 62:i didnt find nothing not to like

Review 63:The way all the staff had time to speak even the painter doing work outside was an absolute gent and one receptionist in particular had the biggest smile ever....look forward to going back at some point

Review 64:Expensive evening meals, (only because we were students did this matter)

Review 65:Friendly staff The pool and jacuzzi were a much welcomed addtion after a long days walking The breakfast was really good

Review 66:Had to pay an extra 30 pounds to check in at 12 as the wedding, which was also in the Buchanan arms, was at 2pm.i feel this was unfair as this would not give us time to check in or get ready. Total of 135 pounds for one night stay which is excessive

Review 67:Nice rooms and nice venue

Review 68:Wifi reception very hit & miss in different parts of the hotel Breakfast cereal selection rather limited and croissants miniscule!

Review 69:Location perfect for both sides of Loch Lomond NP. Staff Friendly

Review 70:TV in the main bar and in the bedroom failed to pick up a signal during the international rugby match! Almost a tragedy, however the wifi worked so the laptop came to the rescue!

Review 71:The hotel was comfortable, with very friendly staff and a good onsite restaurant.

Review 72:Love this Hotel stayed numerous times, leisure facilities very good, only thing that was missing was the roaring log fires which was not lit on this occasion. Breakfast was hot and hearty

Review 73:It was really warm in the room even though we turned off the radiator. Unfortunately because of the weather with the windows open the blinds were constantly blowing about and made sleep impossible so just had to put up with the heat.

Review 74:Plenty of choice at the breakfast buffet. Bed was huge and very comfy. The staff were all very nice and helpfull.

Review 75:just the food ie toffee sundae which was very small amount icecream 2 pieces ginger cake and some cream no sign toffee wish i had complained at time and also which they had said they had no ingredients for this dessert left surely toffee sundae is not made with ginger cake

Review 76:good leisure facilities

Review 77:I like everything about this Hotel and I am a regular visitor. Although I only live in Glasgow, I like a little escape time here. It's a good location, the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is good, and the rooms are clean and comfortable.

Review 78:Swimming lessons taking up half the pool 3 days a week at peak times.

Review 79:Lovely staff, nice pool, good location, recently refurbished, reasonably priced bar.

Review 80:Expensive food, expensive drinks. Pubs nearby are great for food and drink. Breakfast was not as good as other hotel chains but the price reflects that.

Review 81:Location, quiet room, car parking, WI-FI, friendly staff. Unbelievable location for all the Lochs and surrounding areas. Village the hotel is in is beautiful and very friendly.

Review 82:I didn't like that there was 2 places to eat in the hotel yet if you didn't like one menu you couldn't eat there as they both served the same food.

Review 83:I liked how nice the staff were. They were very friendly and helped us with whatever we needed.

Review 84:Leisure facilities are used by public who complained that my children were playing in the pool. Albeit the attendant asked my children to stay to one side of the pool. I didn't object to this at the time but I feel it spoilt the fun of the holiday as they were being very well behaved and not unruly. In the restaurant I didn't like facing the dirty kitchen door and floor.

Review 85:Rooms were cosy and clean and a very good size. Restaurant was fine. Food was acceptable.

Review 86:Restaurant was poor. Both main courses were incorrect and one was over cooked. 2 members of staff were informed of this and gave blank expressions like they didn't know what to do. Rooms very basic and in need of upgrade. Changing rooms are far too small and not kept clean.

Review 87:Pool, sauna and jacuzzi are all great.

Review 88:Menu not in room so ate out as I thought hotel might be expensive but would like to compare. Some cheap fittings in the bedroom, towel rack, taps etc.

Review 89:The Spa facilities had the proper type Sauna, great showers. The room was nice and quite. Staff were great.

Review 90:We travelled as a group of 8 ladies for one night stay. Our room was lovely and very spacious as it was a corner room my friends rooms were a little smaller although still lovely rooms. We ate in the salmon leap restaurant for dinner and breakfast both excellent. Breakfast got busier though and good wasn't replenished as quickly as it could have been. We spent the following day at the haven spa receiving treatments it was an amazing experience would defiantly recommend :)

Review 91:I didnt think the twin room was worth £105. I thought we were going to be staying in a more modern room. Decor was poor and dated. The wifi didnt work and the signal on the tv was terrible.

Review 92:The spa was amazing. Massage and facial were really relaxing and the relation room is lovely. 2nd visit to the spa. Would come again but wouldnt stay at the hotel again.

Review 93:The price of the food in the restaurant.

Review 94:Reliving memories of our marriage here. Staff very polite, helpful and friendly. The cleanliness and attention to detail in the room and the relaxing and comforting experience.

Review 95:WiFi on third floor does not work really well - may want to put a booster up there!

Review 96:The staff went out of their way to be helpful and were knowledgable about the area. They were ready to help but were not intrusive. Food in restaurant was really good, excellent bar service.

Review 97:the room was very nice and we had a lovely dinner . we also had a very nice relaxing afternoon in the pool area/thank you also to the exellent and very friendly staff

Review 98:at dinner duck which my wife had was RUBBISH.cost was removed from bill. this of course was no consolation, but spoilt a our stay.

Review 99:location was suitable.

Review 100:Bed was hard and lumpy - not a good sleep! No handrail on deep bath which made it difficult to get in and out of!

Review 101:Breakfast was delicious Nice view from room The Haven Spa was great

Review 102:Shame that they did not replace bedroom doors and door frames when they re-furbished

Review 103:Have used this hotel many times over last 15 years. a lot of investment has been made since my last visit, very nice decor and standard of furnishings

Review 104:Wedding taking place when we arrived. Meant we could not get to the bar. The live band could also be heard late that night making sleep difficult. Found out that there was ANOTHER wedding the next day. Should have been informed of both prior to arriving or at least the second when we arrived. We checked out after 1 night of 3 because of the disruption.

Review 105:The staff were friendly and helpful, and the evening meal in the restaurant was delicious.

Review 106:Unfortunately, our bed was extremely creaky, so much that every time one of us moved in the night we would both awaken. I doubt every bed is the same, and this was the only issue we had with our otherwise very enjoyable stay.

Review 107:Attractive furnishings inside, good staff, good breakfast kept well stocked, room size very good with tv, leather chairs, large bathroom and free wifi. Access to spa til 10pm with pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.

Review 108:Beware if you have a heavy bag - you may need help to get to your room.

Review 109:Great location - beautiful old building, lovely room, great staff, had a great dinner at the restaurant

Review 110:The floorboards of the room above were very very creaky and loud!

Review 111:Loved the helpfulness of the staff and the food was great. Room was large and was comfortable. Leisure facilities were top class.

Review 112:new dinner menu .

Review 113:Helpful staff always, especially Barbara at front reception always friendly cheerful helpful, and most of all very efficient. Also like new décor in hallway of reception.

Review 114:There was a coach load of people staying when we were there. We went for our first breakfast not aware of this and as service was 15 mins to closing we were not able to get a full breakfast as the hotel had either run out of sausages and bread or they were not prepared to cook them. We were not the last people down for breakfast.

Review 115:Staff were really friendly and helpful. Room was tired but really clean. Bed comfortable and that's the most important thing to us. Didn't use the spa but would have had if we had had time. Up for a wedding:)

Review 116:Squeaky staircases need work. Breakfast was a little bit cold but nice. Windows also need work but perhaps it is a listed building? .

Review 117:Very relaxed atmosphere and staff very pleasant. Would visit again.

Review 118:Nothing

Review 119:Good standards and facilities, the Spa is especially usefull on those rainy Scottish days! Very large and comfortable bed, good en-suite facilities and excellent breakfast (buffet style so eat as much as you want!)

Review 120:The weather when we arrived was wet and miserable!

Review 121:This was a late one night get away for my husband and I and we now wish we had booked two. Great hotel on arrival we were upgraded to a bigger room as there was a wedding taking place and they moved us away from the noise from the function suite. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the Hotel which was fab. The spa complex was great clean tidy and very quiet for a swim before a fabulous breakfast.

Review 122:Only that we weren't able to stay longer!!

Review 123:We loved the old unspoilt character of the inn[ the charming windows etc] but the beautiful modern fittings in the bedroom and ensuite which were both very spacious. The bed was enormous and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was the best MEAL we had on mainland Scotland! Superb choice and what wasn't immediately on offer was brought as soon as we asked for it [Sugar free muesli and plain yoghurt!!]. The charming village of Drymen was easily accessible and close to Loch Lomond. The leisure pool, sauna and Jacuzzi were splendid and the staff most helpful. Thank you very much.

Review 124:some painting going on in hallways while there, not a big deal

Review 125:beautiful scenic area, recently remodeled rooms, nice spacious bathroom, good access to shops and pubs in Drymen

Review 126:We could not use the squash court till after 7pm which was no good to us since we had to leave before then. Its a shame this is not on the hotel web site as we only booked the hotel because it had a squash court.

Review 127:Very friendly attentive staff.

Review 128:Drinks prices in bar not on show i.e speciality whiskies!Rooms refurbished lovely, bit small.

Review 129:Food Leisure facilities Comfortable sitting areas Loacation ideal for sightseeing

Review 130:Although we were told this was still an independent hotel, it appeared like a chain who are intent on cutting costs in small ways (eg) no bottled water in the room, only one pack of shortbread in a double room, only two tea bags, only one shower gel sample, no tissues. A small B & B would try harder. Yes, we could ask for more at Reception, but initial supplies were paltry.

Review 131:Good spa and gym facilities. King sized bed. Quiet location. Dinner menu good, however portions were small, especially for the men in party. Only one small slice of bread offered and no repeat offer.

Review 132:It's right in the village and so peaceful my brother stayed in the village but sadly lost him to cancer so the place holds loads off memories The staff a very nice and friendly .I recommend a visit oh food lovely

Review 133:old heating system rattled at precisely 7am every morning (and 6pm every night) of our stay. No great problem for us as we are early risers but I imagine could be an issue for others,

Review 134:Staff, location, amenities

Review 135:Absolutely nothing.

Review 136:Loved everything about this hotel. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was delicious. We are getting married here next year and would highly recommend it.

Review 137:Stairs - no lift distance from reception to room.

Review 138:Food excellent - good value for money atmosphere and staff - very friendly. outside appearance of the hotel - very good car parking - very good. A problem we had was dealt with immediately.

Review 139:They are currently renovation some of the rooms. The last time we stayed we had an amazing room so it will be good when the renovations are complete.

Review 140:Staff are amazing! Really helpfull and friendly.
