Reviews for Careys Manor Hotel & Spa
Review 1:Restaurants middling to poor; spa facilities included in price of room cheap and nasty; some staff impersonal and distant.
Review 2:Size of room good and well proportioned, breakfast was fine and plentiful with large choice, location of hotel and setting excellent.
Review 3:Only problem we had was water temperature was not very hot but staff were very attentive and did their upmost to sort the problem.
Review 4:We love Cary's character, ambience, cleanliness, staff, spa and ability to relax mind ,body and soul.
Review 5:The separation of the senspar from the swimming pool is petty and reeks of the English class system. Time to step into the 21st century. The loss of the lounge during weddings is unacceptable.
Review 6:Staff are wonderfully welcoming. Good range of restaurants. Open fires create great atmosphere.
Review 7:Beautiful room with four poster bed which lacked stability and very poor views.
Review 8:Staff were excellent in every way very helpful. Wonderful facilities!!
Review 9:Room was very tired and needs updating. View from room was very disappointing.
Review 10:Senspa was lovely but should be included in the price. Staff really friendly
Review 11:The bookings were mixed up. The rooms were not in a good state, carpets dirty and bathroom was poor. The fire in the lounged smoked and you could not sit near due to the smell of ash
Review 12:The pool was just OK, but the air was heavy with clorine.
Review 13:Pool and spa facilities cannot be used by under 16s. This is not mentioned clearly if at all.
Review 14:The staff go the extra mile in every detail. I had an issue with the facilities and they compensated accordingly. Even junior staff are amazing. Very impressed.
Review 15:some areas of the hotel look rather tired & a bit hard to navigate all the different areas of the hotel.
Review 16:excellent facilities & choice of restaurants
Review 17:The staff in the spa were not as attentive as you would expect, but probably equivalent to the price of the service. Room service charged £5 for tray service which seems pretty excessive.
Review 18:The hotel is fairly spacious but badly signposted so easy to get concluded in a labyrinth of doors. The spa was nice, treatments were adequate for the price.
Review 19:We ordered room service as a treat and the soup wasn't that nice and didn't seem worth the cost. But all in all not a big problem and didn't affect our stay!
Review 20:Lovely pampering break away. We were made to feel very special and even had a box of chocs on arrival as it was for our anniversary! They were considerate to my dietry needs and provided gluten free biscuits in the room. Amazing spa, fab breakfast and delicious afternoon tea.
Review 21:Its way over priced. And check your bill very carefully at the end - I was charged, charged and over charged (although they did rectify matters... but
Review 22:This a great hotel for a great little stay.
Review 23:the initial room, a small double in the manor house was small, dark and shabby but the manager willingly transferred us to a garden room at no extra charge.
Review 24:a spacious room opening onto a terrace with table and chairs overlooking the garden
Review 25:We booked a double bedroom No7, and although on their web site they state that all their beds are King or superking, The bed in this room was very small, together with the room being very small, it also benefits? from having no outlook, and also the extractor fans outside are very noisy. Facilities in the room were good. The hotel also offers a cheaper rate which includes breakfast, on its own website than Booking.com.
Review 26:The porterage staff were excellent, helpful and friendly. The location in Brockenhurst was good, enabling you to walk through the town, and also visit the local pubs etc. We did not eat in the hotel due to the cost.
Review 27:The Thai restaurant food was good but not great. The waiting staff were very efficient but would like to have been served by Thai people. It would've added to an already excellent evening. Thank you very much
Review 28:The grounds, spa, and general facilities were superb.
Review 29:Our room NO 7 The air conditioning unit was very noise throughout the night which kept us awake on Friday evening It needs looking at .
Review 30:The hotel was excellent and the staff gave a wonderful service always with a lovely smile
Review 31:We thought evening meal in the main retaurant a bit expensive
Review 32:Everyone helpful pleasant and polite...being able to park the car so close to our room was a bonus as I'm slightly disabled, the restaurant upgrade is very tasteful
Review 33:Breakfast should be included, at present it's way too overpriced and not great quality. Walked into town and got a better breakfast for 1/3 of the price
Review 34:lovely location, spa was excellent
Review 35:Hotel was way too hot. Everything was very expensive. Unless you are going for the spa experience I would not choose this hotel
Review 36:Customer Service at reception.
Review 37:Wifi was a bit sketchy and needed to continually sign in.
Review 38:Spa is one of the best I've visited. The food at the Cambium restaurant was exceptional.
Review 39:Felt the food on offer was a bit over priced.
Review 40:The Spa Facilities. Absolutely lovely. To a high standard and a good range from spa pool to saunas and experience showers. Location excellent too. Easy walk to local facilities and handy for areas of historical interest such as Bucklers Hard
Review 41:We couldn't control the air conditioning which made our stay uncomfortable . An over welcoming maitre'd gave the impression that he was just helping us to get a tip . Poor television channel selection
Review 42:We liked the spa , the next one that we've been to
Review 43:Nothing perfect break!
Review 44:The hotel is absolutely stunning and the staff are so friendly andhelpful. This trip will break the bank a bit but so worth the extracost. I was surprised when I booked a room and spa treatment that Ididn't automatically get access to the spa and had to pay extra, butwhen I got there I completely understood why. The spa facilities areabsolutely first class and definitely worth the extra charge. If I livedcloser I would use the spa every week!
Review 45:The tasting menu was excellent. The staff also managed to create a round table for us too which was brilliant. Great value too. The Thai restaurant gets our vote too. We sat outside as it was a beautiful balmy evening. Great food. Location of hotel superb. My husband and I walked down to the station (5 -10 mins). And hired bikes for the afternoon. Glorious bike ride through woods and heather 3 hours. (23 miles. Brilliant!! We did archery with friends the following with various visits to local attractions. We will be back!!
Review 46:Spa area was tired and required cleaning. Also given price of venue would have thought the hydrotherapy area should be included in the price.
Review 47:Restaurants and quality of food were exceptional
Review 48:For the price of the room breakfast should be included.
Review 49:Helpful, friendly staff and great facilities. The location is great for most New Forest attractions.
Review 50:Everything! The hotel is not cheap but it is worth every penny. Our room was very spacious with the most comfortable huge bed and we had a little personal terrace with a table and chairs outside the patio door. Staff in the hotel itself and the brasserie were wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay.
Review 51:The Jacuzzi not working one day, Steam room not working next day. When this is what we booked for as we had been previous and were looking forward to this. The Zen experience not explained.
Review 52:The Manager was extremely helpful when we discovered our room did not have a fridge for our medication when one was booked and due to bookings could not change room but provided one for us.
Review 53:Bit of confusion on booking details due to surname being mistyped, so subsequent computer search failed to find reservation... Sorted promptly by Reception staff upon arrival!
Review 54:Facilities, location, Thai restaurant excellent! Comfortable room. Very helpful staff.
Review 55:Not impressed by some of the staff, in particular at reception on arrival and at the Cambium restaurant, with a very slow and not attentive service. Quite expensive for the level of service offered
Review 56:The location, the structure and the SPA, really top quality
Review 57:Décor a little tired Complimentary tea & coffee not replenished
Review 58:Friendliness of Staff (especially French Restaurant) Location Excellent French Restaurant
Review 59:Having to pay £15.90 for breakfast. This was no better than breakfasts that are included in overnight stays at the best hotels. We couldn't justify this price for a breakfast.
Review 60:We liked the location and the comfort of the hotel.
Review 61:I f we had the opportunity to use the spa facility's and swimming pool I guess it would have been worth more value. I found it very expensive for the standard of the room as for the money that we paid we had wrongly assumed we were staying in the main hotel and not in a wing that appeared to be dated. The room was described as a superior which quite clearly it was not.
Review 62:I liked the look of the facility's but unfortunately didn't get the opportunity to use them
Review 63:Cost limits time you cab stay at resort.
Review 64:Was nice and relaxing break and staff were very welcoming. I guess all spas and the associated leisure facilities are expensive as a starting point, but this did live up to the expectations created by the photos and reviews.
Review 65:Choice of restaurants was excellent, we loved the Zen Garden and the ambience of the Blaireau Bistro. The staff in all areas of the hotel were polite and friendly. Will certainly plan another stay
Review 66:For £268 per night I expected a lot more, it was ok but plainly has past its heyday. Carpets are worn and the finishes dated, nothing special. For half the price I would have been satisfied.
Review 67:We had to ask for drinks at dinner and breakfast, the staff need to be more attentive.
Review 68:We liked the facilities and comfort of the rooms and surroundings.
Review 69:Service was poor. We felt as though our presence was an inconvenience and that some of the staff couldn't care less. The cost was high for the service provided.
Review 70:Restaurant food was mixed but the main course of lamb was excellent.
Review 71:General decor and the bathroom could have used a proper clean (build up of lint on towel rail etc)
Review 72:Booked for a last minute night away and spa day. Grounds are fantastic and room was ok but a bit tired and . The spa is fantastic and we were left feeling properly pampered. Zen garden restaurant was a decent but unexceptional Thai meal. Overall a good stay - really friendly staff.
Review 73:Service in the restaurant, where do I star! On arrival I ordered a bottle of champagne on romm service, this was delivered quickly but no cloth or Base plate and the glasses with finger print, then at 9 o'clock we went for dinner, I don't know if that was late but was the only time slot available, when we got there we were pointed to the table instead of been taken there,we ordered the food and a couple drinks,we were asked if wanted water,we said yes but we still waiting,no one came to take the wine order or even ask if we wanted another drink, was all of this because the staff wanted to go home? Or whatever is in charge of the restaurant doesn't care? A very poor service
Review 74:The staff on check in and out The food and the person who showed us the room, the only one together with reception which understand what is customers service, well done My I say,we booked three different hotels for the three nights because we wanted to choose one for our week conference meeting in October and your hotel was the one I was interested, but I'm sorry to say my bad experience in your restaurant changed my mind
Review 75:Reception area looks a little tired as do the rooms. Very attentive happy staff just lots of silly unorganised mistakes were made. Made hotel seem disorganised & unprofessional.
Review 76:The Spa & Spa facilities were excellent as were spa staff.
Review 77:The price for one night, room only, was £259 90! The room was of the poorest standard and the bathroom tiny. This is the most overpriced hotel I have ever stayed in, including breakfast and entrance to the spa, one night would have been £364 90 ! We booked for three nights and stayed one.
Review 78:Final bill when presented had missed one breakfast
Review 79:you had a wedding the night we arrived but you took the trouble to phone us and tell us we would have a room far from the "noise". We didn't hear a thing. front garden was lovely
Review 80:the bathroom was very narrow & there was a lot of dust on the towel rail
Review 81:the staff were very friendly and welcoming - the breakfast was amazing and the food in the evening was very good.
Review 82:The rooms are dated and wouldn't rate 5* star facilities. The drinks are extremely expensive and the bar staff need to learn to smile and show some interest when charging the prices being charged.
Review 83:My partner enjoyed the gym and swimming pool facilities.
Review 84:Staff were all very helpful, receptionist I believe she said was from Hungary, was very sweet. So nothing at all to complain about.
Review 85:Heated indoor pool,as the weather turned very cold suddenly. Good choice of restaurants, tried the Thai and French one...both good.
Review 86:In the steam room in the spa I sat in the corner and it burnt my leg a bit- no serious harm but just please look into it as the steam channelled out of the corner gap all of a sudden and bit my leg. If it was a more elderly lady they may not have realised as quickly and it could have been more serious.
Review 87:We had the most fantastic 6 year anniversary thank you everyone! We'd love to come back and stay soon!
Review 88:The Breakfast on Monday was understaffed this was serious misjudgement / mistake by the hotel management.
Review 89:The staff were so friendly and well trained. The food was fantastic.
Review 90:The restaurant is in need of a refurb expensive for what you get restaurants are in different places in the hotel and took a bit of finding
Review 91:The staff were very friendly
Review 92:From the outset the receptionist made it clear that the ethos of the Hotel and Spa was to facilitate relaxation - and this was what we experienced. Staff were unobtrusive but as helpful as could be wished and the facilities allowed us to do everything that we wanted to. Meals were good and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 93:The spa facilities are looking tired and could do with a complete update. The changing rooms particularly are very poor (compared with other spas I go to).
Review 94:Great location for visiting places of interest in the area. It makes the perfect base. We loved the restaurants at the hotel and with such a variety on offer there was no need to go out at night.
Review 95:Room was far too hot at night and air conditioning non existent. We had to have Windows open even tho it was middle of winter. Also breakfast very poor. Not cheap and not even freshly cooked. We went to nearby cafe for 2 mornings and had freshly cooked breakfast for a third of hotel price.
Review 96:The hotel and restaurants were good. Room very spacious. Spa was excellent.
Review 97:Not over impressed with the layout or hospitality in the main bar.
Review 98:We really enjoyed the atmosphere in Le Blaireau Bistro & Bar. Staff really helped to make our break!
Review 99:We felt like guinea pigs for the new restaurants and menus. The evening meal, which turned out to be afternoon tea, was not the romantic meal we had hoped for. Breakfast wasn't available, but brunch was. It was the first time it was in the bistro so ended up being sent to a number of places before we got there.
Review 100:Friendly staff, greeted at the entrance and a porter moved the car to the car park. Lovely touch. Great location for walks. Lovely brunch. Valentine's rose plant in the room. Lovely touch.
Review 101:The hotel itself is okay yet generally tired throughout. I'd say that the food was certainly overpriced for the quality. It's a poor 4 star in my opinion, and I stay in at least 4 a month.
Review 102:I didn't use the spa as I had my 5 year old son with me so I can't particularly comment.
Review 103:Nothing
Review 104:Everything, having walked out of a nearby hotel and booked here ten minutes later, the receptionist was extremely helpful. Lovely dinner in the evening. The hotel had some renovation in process, but you would not have known it. Quiet hotel.
Review 105:Cobwebs in light fittings Dirty sink plug Check in and out times Not all facilities were working.
Review 106:Large comfortable bed Pool and jacuzzi Restaurants
Review 107:The hydro spa was great with very reasonable upgrade prices. The staff were friendly and helpful - it was nice to be specifically told it is ok to wander the halls in a dressing gown to get to the spa, as normally I get embarrassed doing that.
Review 108:We had an autumn weekend break here. The weather was awful but the Manor's friendliness and comfort more than made up for it. Will definitely come again.
Review 109:There were price diferencies from booking to when at the Hotel. The Management were very unhelpful not at all accommodating .The Breakfast was very disappointing. The French Resturant was lovely but the Thai the food was just warm.
Review 110:The Location was lovely set in the New Forest,The staff were very accommodating .
Review 111:Ask for a king sized bed or you will end up with two twins pushed together, a massive dip in the middle and a terrible nights sleep The curtains in our room were dirty and one of the bathroom lights did not work, very disappointed
Review 112:Spa is amazing- utter bliss, and the breakfast and afternoon tea are lovely
Review 113:Extremely helpful staff, easy booking in,room was exceptionally clean and spacious,we had the best nights sleep in our comfy four poster bed,we had dinner in the Zen garden and could not fault the food or service, breakfast was great, such a large choice ,we will be definitely be booking to come again
Review 114:The only downside was the price of the breakfast, far to costly for me as well as the evening meals, but there are lovely country cafes a mile away for breakfast.
Review 115:The staff were extremely polite and friendly, whilst the hotel is on a main through road we did experience any traffic noise. The spa was fantastic, there was never more than 5 people in the pool at one time, the loungers make it an ideal place to relax. a very enjoyable experience in the heart of the New Forest, surrounded by beautiful horses... Be very careful driving at night they appear from nowhere onto the roads.
Review 116:The wifi in my room were too weak to connect but perhaps the room was out of range. Not that important.
Review 117:Almost everything - the spa facilities are top class.
Review 118:Typically english hotel in typical England only welcomed by easterneuropeans (who were lovely) but took the edge off being in a lovelyEnglish hotel! Therefore we wouldn't go back again
Review 119:Spa
Review 120:The room (17) did not meet expectations it was not representative of web photos. The dining room ambience non existent. Problem with food although management compensated. Spoilt our anniversary celebration.
Review 121:Location
Review 122:Wifi was very weak in rooms - dropping out a lot. Cleaning was inadequate - empty drink bottle left in bathroom, found hair slides on floor.
Review 123:Friendly staff who were very helpful. Good location, although roads got very busy so slow getting in and out. Nice restaurants, especially good breakfast.
Review 124:extra charge for some pool facilities TV small it is a large hotel and has the atmosphere of a chan hotel, not a country manor too expensive (bank holiday) for what it offered. at £150-160 would have been fair
Review 125:Very helpful staff pool facilities rooms were generously sized
Review 126:Definitely the "fine dining" restaurant is the weakest point of the hotel. The quality and service are just good whilst in modern times they should be exceptional.
Review 127:The hotel is ok, you can't go wrong.
Review 128:The resturant and the bar area need updating and need to create some atmosphere in the bar. The Manor Restaurant food was excellent.
Review 129:Spa facility is huge and very clean. We had a room in the original building which was lovely.
Review 130:Pricing policy, both for room and food; heavy marketing of expensive spa facilities, to the significant exclusion of the sorts of information a leisure guest would reasonably expect (including copies in each room of menus and guidance to places of interest locally); room, though clean and quite comfortable, was 'tired' and in need of updating; iron that did not work; TV controller that worked only after removing and replacing batteries, abuse having failed!
Review 131:Buildings + grounds; French bistro; comfort of the bed; very good service from a well-trained staff; inclusive gym and pool facilities
Review 132:The two restaurants (not the Thai) had limited menus. We used the French one on both nights we were there and the menu including the 'specials' were identical. The food good, but more variety definitely required.
Review 133:Location perfect, staff friendly and room (superior) very comfortable. Breakfast also very good and service excellent.
Review 134:The room we had was among the few that do not have air conditioning, but most of the time in England it wouldn't matter and we managed to stay cool at night by leaving the door and window open.
Review 135:Our bedroom was comfortable and spacious and it was a lovely bonus to have a verandah overlooking the garden. The food was excellent - we dined in Le Blaireau one evening and ordered room service on another evening, when we had the pork burgers, which were amazing. The swimming pool was lovely and the perfect place to relax on a hot day. We had a fantastic stay and I would recommend the hotel to anyone who's happy to pay for the comfort and luxury that Careys Manor offers.
Review 136:This was relatively last minute, so it was more by luck than judgement that we stayed. Just great, especially the food. Dinner was of the candlelit variety. Avoid the main restaurant if you're in a hurry...we thought we were, but ended up being seduced by the ambience, so try it if you can. Ground floor rooms have their own little verandah looking out onto the very well tended gardens. Worth getting.
Review 137:Tired looking breakfast room, stained carpets, overcooked breakfast items, very noisy delivery / pickup activities in the car park that backed up to my room - as early as 5.45 am on the Sunday I stayed for.
Review 138:Spa facilities, swimming pool, Zen Restaurant, Heritage facade.
Review 139:The service at the Hotel's Bistro was chaotic and disjointed. Created a bad atmosphere. The 1960s wing to the hotel in which we stayed reminded me of an old folks home and the decor was very chintzy. Not worth the GBP 200 per night we paid.
Review 140:The Spa was amazing. Great Thai restaurant.
