Reviews for Winnock Hotel
Review 1:Only small things-Not enough toiletries. Never thought I'd have to go out and buy shampoo and conditioner while staying in a hotel. Asked for games to play one afternoon and there were very few and those were missing parts. Should've taken some ourself. On the whole though the stay was great and we will be back.
Review 2:Cosy log fires and plenty whisky to choose from, with the occasional live music to enjoy. Breakfast quality is very good. Rooms are a little dated but perfectly comfortable. Plenty fresh towels.
Review 3:The hotel itself sits in a beautiful location and the main reception was cosy and very Christmassy for our winter visit. The bar was also cute and room service was prompt. The rooms are ultra modern and clean. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will be back.
Review 4:The room was not very nice poor quality fixture and fittings. Bathroom was very unpleasant. Breakfast was not as described extensive buffet was a few items or it needed restock for the time we were there. The food looked as if it had been sitting for hours.
Review 5:The location
Review 6:I wasn't too keen on the breakfast. On the first morning the bacon looked and tasted like it had been sitting on a hotplate and my poached egg tasted strongly of vinegar and on the second morning we waited almost 10 mins to be seated and then had to ask someone to take our order eventually. We almost gave up having breakfast.
Review 7:The hotel was warm, clean and comfortable. It had a nice cosy bar with friendly staff.
Review 8:Bed was uncomfortable, hard and springs could be felt while lying down. Taps and tiles behind taps in bath were grubby. Shower curtain was adequate but glass screen would feel more clean and comfortable.
Review 9:Room looked lovely and spacious. Historical building was stunning. Superior room. Staff were friendly but over worked in dining room. Bedroom was clean and fresh.
Review 10:Out of date information in the tourist booklet and booklet needed a good wipe down. Whole place needed a bit of TLC and location was not great. Nothing to do locally without driving out.very tiny village
Review 11:The pie in the pub was good!
Review 12:Small criticism, the shower was on a mixer tap, took a little while for the water to warm up.
Review 13:The staff were excellent, very friendly and efficient. The food was very good and very good value. Overall, a very enjoyable experience.
Review 14:Nothing
Review 15:This is great hotel in a great location and great value for money. We had rooms in the new wing which were absolutely lovely and very comfortable. We had dinner there which was excellent and so was the cooked breakfast the following morning.
Review 16:I did not like the general housekeeping within the room. The standard of cleanliness was not good within the room - I put in 2 complaints regarding this and was able to change rooms - the reception staff apologised for this.
Review 17:I liked the meals and the quality of service from the restaurant staff. The receptionists were very helpful.
Review 18:The room hadn't been cleaned but as soon as we alerted the staff they rectified this,
Review 19:It was very handy for attending a party at Buchanan arms, breakfast was very substantial and well cooked.
Review 20:Quality of rooms differed dramatically. Newer rooms were nice, but small, older rooms were poor but big. My Sunday paper was thicker than the mattress on my bed.
Review 21:Location was good - where we needed to be, lovely wee village
Review 22:Very old facility. Cleanliness is an optional. WiFi in reception only (not even the restaurant). Very expensive for what it gives.
Review 23:Location is good. Breakfast and restaurant are of good quality.
Review 24:Decor all a bit tired , carpets and chairs in breakfast room dirty . Breakfast quality was not great .
Review 25:Friendly Staff, location . Early entrance to room .
Review 26:Had to call a waitress to take our breakfast order. We were forgotten about. I didn't like the atmosphere in restaurant at breakfast. Young waitress staff seemed to be whispering amongst themselves as if they were troubled by something.
Review 27:Room comfortable. Chap on reception was helpful. Took case to room and provided towels on asking.
Review 28:We arrived early and staff said they would put bags up in room but they were still there later on our return, left by reception, not major problem but would have been helpful. Room noisy with some sort of extractor fan (room 21) until 11 or 12 pm, too noisy to sleep for me.
Review 29:Large spacious room, very clean, good bar meals and breakfast
Review 30:Wifi was in one spot on the stairs and the end of the lounge so you had to sit on the stairs to get a good signal. What's the big deal? Just make it available in the rooms already! Also the breakfast staff are rude - you get seated after waiting and they shout at you, "tea or coffee?" Whatever happened to: "Good morning, would you like tea or coffee?" Got woken up early by other guests walking on the creaky floor too. There was a starchy substance on the carpet in the room so didn't want to walk around barefooted. Too expensive for what you get.
Review 31:Guy at the front desk was nice. The staff wearing kilts.
Review 32:Rooms a bit dated but otherwise clean and comfortable enough for a weekend break
Review 33:reasonable cost for drinks and food . Evening meal and breakfast good no complaints
Review 34:There was a bunch of dirty towels left in the room but were removed immediately when we rang down! Very early delivery.
Review 35:Staff super friendly and helpful ! Great value for money!! Food and service great!
Review 36:The Wi-Fi was very poor, and it was only accessible in the lobby--it didn't even reach to the restaurant down the hall.
Review 37:The front and bar staff were friendly and helpful, directing us to local sites. Breakfast was quite good.
Review 38:Tough to get WiFi and not in room but didn't mind on a family with friends weekend, happy to do without work emails.
Review 39:Great breakfast, nice bar, friendly staff, great location for Loch Lomond. Good for families.
Review 40:The wifi was available only in the lobby and was a little bit spotty at that.
Review 41:Very modern amenities in a charming old building. The town of Drymen was lovely as well.
Review 42:Wifi only in reception area, stuff left in bedroom drawer from previous guest, housekeeper couldn't have checked.
Review 43:Good location nice rooms, nice decked area outside
Review 44:Had room 11 which was at the top of the stairs so heavy traffic, big gap under the door filtered all the noise straight in, including the singer in the lounge downstairs (more Robin Williams than Robbie) Also above the kitchen with the vent filling the room with food odours. It was also hotter than lucifers pocket but being in Scotland nowhere is prepared for hot weather but made for an uncomfortable nights sleep
Review 45:The food and service were great. Room nice and clean & great friendly staff. Perfect central location.
Review 46:The bed was of good size but matress worn and thin. The dust in the room was about an inch thick. The food was good price but not worth the money.
Review 47:Best thing was the adjoining balcony to our room.Staff dressed in kilts was pleasant and all the staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 48:overpriced for the type of hotel. I'd stayed at local Oak Tree Inn previosuly which is on another level in comparison and far cheaper. It was outdated, our room was through randome doors and staircases and we weren't shown where to go or given the offer of help with out bags. The room was ridiculously outdated with a stale smell and no view in site.Overall terrible terrible hotel stay.
Review 49:We love the Winnock, the staff are friendly, the food is good and the rooms are clean and comfortable. perfect for a nice relaxing break, we have been here many times, and will be again
Review 50:Fish is normally beautiful but this time too much batter and not enough fish. TV in bathrooms don't work (much too the disappointment of our 4yr old grandson).
Review 51:Staff are so friendly. We have stayed in the winnock at least 6 or 7 times in the last year, we will return.
Review 52:Noise from other residence, build quality of the new part of the hotel we stayed in. Receptionist was hardly a charmer on check in or out.
Review 53:Location is great, breakfast was adequate. Bar and hotel staff generally friendly. Recommend the Drymen Inn across the square for an evening meal.
Review 54:The website stated that wifi was available in all areas of the hotel. Unfortunately this wasn't the case, wifi was only available in reception and even this was difficult to connect to.
Review 55:Lovely hotel in a lovely location. The staff were warm and welcoming doing all they could to ensure our stay was a pleasant experience.
Review 56:Our stay was slightly spoiled by some minor technical issues and a lackadaisical attitude from some of the staff.
Review 57:The hotel is like the Tardis in the sense that it looks like several cottages from the front but extends through a fascinating series of links to other buildings. It has been pleasantly furnished throughout.
Review 58:It would be nice if they had some facilities for younger children, maybe a small play area at the back.
Review 59:Then friendliness of the the staff and how they made you feel welcome. Even the painters they had in, decorating the hallways were very pleasant.
Review 60:TV in the bathroom didnt work, no shower gel, unable to get food in the bar as advertised on website. Not one to complain but after spending £178 for one night you expect a little bit more !!!!!
Review 61:Nice location
Review 62:There was nothing about my stay that I did not like
Review 63:The staff were brilliant, polite and keen to please, the room was modern, warm and very comfortable
Review 64:A large coach party and another event had been arranged for this day. However good for business but not for a peaceful time for other guests!
Review 65:Nothing to complain about
Review 66:First time staying in the winnock fab room just been refurbished. Very comfortable Everything new. Carpets beds etc. Breakfast was first class defo be back well worth the money.
Review 67:Bar and dining areas cold. Log fire in dining area unlit and fire in bar allowed to go out about 8.30 pm . Bar was still busy and although their was a small fan heater it was cold. We went to our room at 9.1m even though there was entertainment as was too cold to sit. They did not seem to be prepared for the number of guests as had to wait on them setting a table for breakfast. Also stone cold plates therefore cold food very quickly.
Review 68:warm and comfortable bedroom. Good base for visiting Loch Lomond.
Review 69:The bedroom carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a while! also the surfaces showed some cupmarks which were washable. The ceilidh was a bit noisy as were the guests, however I believe they are usually not as noisy as this.
Review 70:Staff were really efficient and well spoken. Breakfast was excellent. I loved the location. The ambience, log fire etc. very welcoming
Review 71:The hotel was comfortable, and warm but, the breakfasts were poor compared to what they used to be, and not always hot. The dinner on Sun. night was not up to the standard that we are used to or used to be able to get at the hotel. We ate at the pub across the road on Sat. night as the hotel could not accommodate us the first night. The hotel could do with a good clean and refurbishment in some areas.
Review 72:Hotel comfortable and warm. Hotel in good local/position to visit Loch Lomond, Trossachs and Ballach for train to Glasgow for serious shopping and visiting the sights. The front of the hotel was not cleared of cig buts from the smokers in the hotel. Not a good welcome, but hotel staff very friendly. The log fires were good except when they were allowed to go out at approx 9pm when guests were sitting enjoying the remainder of their wine in the lounge in front of the fire.
Review 73:cant think of anything to write about
Review 74:the accommodation, the food, the parking facilities and its central position to surrounding places. it has a laid back approach to your stay, and it has a general warming atmosphere overall. Friendly service also.
Review 75:The cost of the room was expensive for it being a bit dated, however, everything else made up for it.
Review 76:It was ideal for Glengoyne Distillery for the men and Balloch and Loch Lomond for the women. The staff were excellent, especially the receptionist on the Saturday when we booked in. The hotel was quaint in its own way. The evening meal was the best we have had in a long time when eating out.
Review 77:Even though the room I stayed in was spacious and clean, the bed was a little too hard for my comfort. But that's just down to preference. Certainly wouldn't stop me staying there again.
Review 78:The village is beautiful and quiet. The hotel staff are helpful and friendly, and the bar area has a great atmosphere serving great beers and food. Certainly recommend eating there! Excellent value all round.
Review 79:The food at breakfast was inedible, horrible taste. The waitress were hopeless, did not clear away empty dishes. No one stocked up on bowls, butter, juice, bread or rolls and at this point there was still half an hour left for people to have breakfast, would not eat there again.
Review 80:The room, the fireplace in the lounge.
Review 81:Because we were leaving before breakfast we asked for some sandwitches. I was shocked when we were charged for them on top of b & b price. Not quite the Scottish hospitality my German colleague expected.
Review 82:Location, bar, helpfulness of girl in kitchen on Sunday morning.
Review 83:The rooms were too hot for my comfort. You can open the windows which made it ok.
Review 84:Lovely historic location, close to scenic attractions with a car. Don't forget to visit the nearby distillery.
Review 85:nothing comes to mind
Review 86:good location which is central to the village, excellent food both in the bar area and restaurant, very polite and friendly staff, very comfortable room.
Review 87:- Lots of stairs everywhere which can make it difficult when carrying heavy luggage
Review 88:- Location at short distance of Ben Lomond climb starting point - Baby cob all ready for our use before we arrive - Good and generous hot breakfast - perfect before a climb
Review 89:Not welcoming. Public toilets not clean. Bed in room 71 uncomfortable, curtains torn, hand basin so small dificult to wash or brushteeth..unable to fill kettle.Disabled room, with height of shower fixedtoo low. No shampoo! Nobody asked if we enjoyed our stay on leaving!!Clean room.
Review 90:Location was as close to Balmaha as we could get that weekend
Review 91:Housekeeping in corridors dining room very poor stained carpets and evidence of slaters white sluglike tracks on dining room carpet chairs and carpet stained. young waiting staff appeared to be untrained. we had to queue for breakfast every morning. breakfast was dried up and greasy, very poor, so much so we decided not to book in for dinner
Review 92:Staff friendly
Review 93:Nothing negative.
Review 94:Service was very good, nice friendly staff, rooms are excellent, bars are nice for relaxing, and the breakfast was one of the best iv'e had in a hotel.
Review 95:The noisy banging room and hallway/fire doors.
Review 96:Location was great for Loch Lomond, Stirling Castle, WALLACE Monument and Bannockburn etc. Breakfast was really good.
Review 97:Staff. from the moment entering the hotel staff were very friendly the rooms were spotless and plenty well prepared food for breakfast thanks again. Jack and christine from glasgow xxx
Review 98:Everything's looking decidedly 'tired'; worn seats need re-upholstering. Carpet needs replacing. No wifi in room and very week in public areas. Breakfast service very slow.
Review 99:Homely country inn feel to public and bar areas. Far more rooms out the back than you'd first imagine. Quiet nights sleep.
Review 100:The place is very tired looking. Bathrooms are very poor. Hot water runs out. No lifts, too many stairs and long corridors when your carrying heavy luggage and no concierge facilities.
Review 101:The price and the fact that they offer family rooms for up to two adults and three children. The staff do their best in a hotel in serious need of updating.
Review 102:Creaky corridor noises at night but only heard them after being awoken by fire alarm, so can't blame venue for an inconsiderate guest smoking in their room. Unable to connect to wi-fi anywhere although we were assured it was available but we didn't persist.
Review 103:Great room with balcony and TV in the bath! We had a wonderful evening meal and a hearty breakfast. Liked having a choice of places to have our pre-dinner drinks, either in the lounge, outside or in the bar. Free on-site parking always welcome.
Review 104:Hotel is a bit run down - in need of wee face lift. Could be freshly decorated. And a bit cleaner. But on the whole would defo return to this hotel.
Review 105:Friendly staff, requested earlier check in, big triple room, full English breakfast.
Review 106:Bad attitude of staff - my luggage (delivered earlier by a baggage forwarding company) was lost. They blamed me and the company, and when I eventually found the luggage - it had been sitting by reception for seven hours - they just shrugged it off. They're a coach tour hotel who disdain their customers. Basil Fawlty is alive and running the Winnock Hotel.
Review 107:Comfortable, well located.
Review 108:The only criticism was the bed was not comfortable.
Review 109:The warm welcome from all staff. The quality of food was excellent The location being a short distance from Loch Lomond and within easy reach of Glasgow and Stirling
Review 110:Public areas a little dull. Uninspired menu.
Review 111:Marvellous breakfast. 5 minutes to Loch Lomond 10 minutes to Glengoyne distillery 30 minutes to Glasgow city centre
Review 112:Room obviously refurbished however it had been rushed and attention to detail failed greatly. Down to simple thing like pump for hand wash didn't work whilst the one in the shower constantly dripped.
Review 113:Location
Review 114:The fire alarm going off at four in the morning! Hardly the hotel's fault
Review 115:Staff were delightful, everywhere and had our room ready early by prior arrangement as we required to change before a wedding.
Review 116:not being able to check in properly before 3:00 pm. Didn't know I could book an early check in. But much worse was the Fire alarm going off at 3:40 am and it being a false alarm.
Review 117:The breakfast
Review 118:Condescending and arrogant reception staff. Damp patches on walls. Murky damp tartan carpets. Dusty smell. Cobwebs in room. Busted bolt on toilet door. Sash windows encrusted with filth. Dirty bath plug hole. Whole of bathroom and room of dubious cleanliness. Absolutely not worth the money paid.
Review 119:Good food and good food service
Review 120:The accomodation was charged in full as soon as our booking was made. A widespread modern approach which still feels a bit sharp.
Review 121:Every Member of staff smiled and was kind and helpful.and the room and food were great. We had five visitors including 3 children with whom we shared a bar meal, no hassle and great service.
Review 122:Receptionist dire- kept ignoring guests and not in the least bit helpful. Family room very cramped Décor very dated/slightly grubby Slight smell of damp. Hotel held two functions while we were there, which meant it was impossible to get to bar/common areas heaving. Under staffed.
Review 123:It was a nice location- although the village had poor connections. There was a carpark attached.
Review 124:Would be a great idea to have ceiling fans. Just enough to move the air. I loved every minute, your welcome and friendliness made me Proud to be Scottish
Review 125:Everything. All the fantastic people that work at the Winnock. Tracy, Adam, Alex. The lady who works the night shift. You are all fantastic loving folks. I wish I would have asked all your names. You are all wonderful!
Review 126:Quality of food not up to the expectation Dowdy decor with lots of worn furnishings Dark room with dreary outlook Uncomfortable bed with thin, sloping mattress Overpriced for the quality
Review 127:Friendly staff Nice building Great location for exploring Loch Lomond Drymen is a nice village Good breakfast menu but........
Review 128:Expensive for such a shabby room. No. 21
Review 129:Some lovely staff but poor staff on reception when we checked in. No eye contact or welcome. Staff not aware of local activities .
Review 130:Food options and quality Inadequate WiFi Awful floorboards for a new building (new wing)
Review 131:Room comfort, cleanliness and size Majority staff friendly and efficient
Review 132:Public rooms hot and dark, and did not make us want to spend any time in, or eat in, so we brought in sandwiches and ate in our room. Corridors and stairways very grubby and needed to be vacuumed. Wifi not available in bedrooms and only sporadically in public rooms, despite literature stating it was everywhere in the hotel. Breakfast a shambles, staff did not bother to notice what order people arrived in, so some were served immediately, some not at all till complaining. Tired old uncared for property.
Review 133:We were all pleased with the clean, comfortable and pleasantly furnished bedrooms. The almost invariable response we had from staff to any request was "no problem" & this summed up the hotel's approach. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfasts and found evening meals well cooked, presented and very good value. The location is rural and close to Loch Lomond but a 20 minute drive to a Bearsden station gave us easy access into Glasgow so we felt it was a great choice of location for the Commonwealth Games.
Review 134:shower facilities poor, bath panel rotting, run-down, badly need to sort wi-fi out, breakfast patchy (unless you like carbonised tomatoes). No info in room re: facilities (e.g. wi-fi, breakfast, local facilities, phone service)
Review 135:Staff tried hard, responded well to a complaint over the mattress.
Review 136:I paid a fairly high price for a superior room during the Commonwealth Games. The staff seemed to busy to care if guests were comfortable. I was working at the Games and had to leave for Glasgow very early in the morning and staff were unable to provide a breakfast for me. We had to access our room via a function room being used by a wedding. I was not very happy about being challenged by drunken guests. The hotel is charming but for the price I paid I expected better service.
Review 137:Drymen is an ideal location for exploring Loch Lomond and the trossachs. It is also conveniently placed for visiting Glasgow.
Review 138:Breakfast average, Public areas- tired showing ripped upholstery and damaged furniture all need cleaning & redecoration., Room facilities -lack of attention to detail ( No tissues in room, toilet roll not replaced, TV in bathroom as advertised did not work, washbasin had hair crack, dusty areas in corners, dirty ashtray on balcony. No ventilation in bedroom Bed old & mattress lumpy Consumable and tumblers not replaced. Deluxe room actually very basic. NOT value for money
Review 139:Dinner& lunch excellent & very well presented dining /bar staff friendly Bedroom adequate Plenty hot water Linen & towels clean..
Review 140:The accommodation was far too expensive for what was on offer. Maybe the price was raised because of the games, either way it was overpriced. The bedroom was ok but needed facelift and redecorating, even more so in the bathroom.
Review 141:The staff were helpful and polite and the location was handy for the commonwealth games. Breakfast was good and the choice on offer was fine, as was parking and the room was clean.
Review 142:No AC in hot stuffy room Poor bed linen..no mattress protector just badly fitting sheet Minimal housekeeping through 3 night stay No fan in bathroom
Review 143:Nice location Big room for family Reasonable breakfast
