Reviews for The Crags Hotel
Review 1:No additional blanket in room etc. Was a little under the weather so addition cover would have been Nice( it may have been in the room but could find it)
Review 2:Good location, amazing decor, friendly staff great service. Beautiful breakfast.
Review 3:Room wasn't very clean, hairs in bedding spider webs hanging from light fixings the carpet was long overdue a vacuum . staff did come and clean at our request.
Review 4:Staff were friendly loved Callander
Review 5:We'd hoped to eat at the hotel in the evenings, however, as Winter had arrived in Callander, the restaurant was shut :( however, there was a very nice Italian restaurant right across the road which we went to instead. On arrival we parked at the rear, the entrance to the hotel was a little hard to locate and no lighting.
Review 6:Beds very comfortable, bathroom quite modern, shower was nice and hot. Room and public areas clean. Great location.
Review 7:No control over heating. Room did get very warm, so slept on top of the bed.
Review 8:Friendly staff. Comfortable, clean accommodation. Good location to explore the local area. Would stay again if we were in the area.
Review 9:Quirky, comfortable room. Staff very helpful. Food delicious. Locals friendly especially the 'Badmen' club or was that the Badminton club. Staff so helpful they posted my walking stick on to me. Big thanks
Review 10:Welcoming, friendly and really comfortable which made up for the fact that the decor is a little tired, overall great value for money and good breakfast
Review 11:Bed was too soft and carpet in the room could have done with a good clean. A lot of noise from public bar despite being two floors up
Review 12:Location was spot on. Very handy for everything
Review 13:Our room was not up to standard. Carpet was matting with worn rug between beds. Bedside lamp was falling apart. En suite floor tiles coming up, wall paper coming away. grouting in poor condition Bedroom door handle coming loose as was wardrobe. Kept clothes in our bags rather than drawers.
Review 14:The staff were friendly and helpful, Food was good.
Review 15:Half painted shutters at bedroom window ,didn't close properly and there were no curtains ! Bedroom rug curled up at edge (tripping hazard) eventually tacked down into place.
Review 16:Friendly Hotel.
Review 17:Room ventilation not good. No toiletries. Hard to find shower power switch. No help with suitcases up to the 3rd floor. Credit card payment taken in advance of stay.
Review 18:Friendly staff. Convenient pub. Off street parking. Earlier breakfast by request. Excellent breakfast including haggis.
Review 19:We ask an accomodation for 6 but we had just 5 bed Restaurant went out of food with few dishes Old room furniture with a second door unlocked connected with the bar downstairs Very small stairs
Review 20:Good restaurant downstairs
Review 21:Can only comment on room 8 (four poster) don't use it. Frame creaks even when walking on the floor never mind trying to turn over when in it as the noise it made woke us up. Mattress so uncomfortable I might had a better nights sleep sitting in the arm chair but that only had 3 and a half castors on it maybe it doubled up as a rocking chair. Don't dare use the cold tap in the room without ear plugs in place. The bathroom did look recently renovated but so recent that it didn't look finish. Don't let me put anyone off the hotel as I am commenting on room 8 One other thing don't bother about the hotel car park it's so overgrown that Lord Lucan might have used it as a hide out if he had escaped to the town
Review 22:The location and the town
Review 23:Dinner and also breakfast overcooked, half the lights in the bedroom and bathroom didn`t work
Review 24:The fascinating dining room, like walking into someones old home. The staff were pleasant enough
Review 25:Uncomfy bed - Pillows and the bed has seen a lot of action Room above bar is noisy - we didn't realise this until we arrived Had to plug kettle in on the floor
Review 26:Location, Breakfast
Review 27:The language of the punters in the bar of an evening left a lot to be desired! Put us off drinking there. The owners neither welcomed us nor identified themselves though the breakfast staff were friendly and polite.
Review 28:The room was lovely and the 4 poster bed (without the drapes, but never mind!). Very good breakfasts though we had to make our own toast and there was no fruit or natural yogurt.
Review 29:Room was right over the bar but bar wasn't too noisy
Review 30:Staff friendly and helpful, location excellent-easy to park and close to service like band and food store.
Review 31:Room was a bit shabby- stains on the ceiling, curtains hanging off their rings, toilet seat extremely loose (almost unusable), side table lamps not working. Breakfast below average.
Review 32:Parking available at rear. Family room can accommodate 5 people.
Review 33:Good location as needed a rest break off the A9 Glasgow and this fitted the bill exactly. Friendly helpful staff and nice cosy bar....just what we needed as the rain was pouring down on our arrival.
Review 34:Some rooms were noisy until midnight because of the pub. Rooms 6 & 7 were very quiet.
Review 35:We appreciated Alex's helpfullness very much. He made time free for us to solve a problem. Callander is a nice little town, close to the Trossachs, Stirling , Glasgow ... Breakfast was excellent.
Review 36:a little arkward, no where to hang towel,no desk to sit or put kettle could do with maybe losing old broken chair and unit and adding a desk with tea stuff on?
Review 37:it was cleaned each day and lots of tea and bath smellies, clean towels, people seemed nice but I didn't see much of them, but I don't mind that as im a keep to my self person,it was a nice stay,
Review 38:Restaurant service a bit slow. Overall the place is nice enough, in a quirky but slightly tired sort of way.
Review 39:Food was unexpectedly good. The restaurant space itself didn't promise much, but food - from starters through to puddings was cooked beautifully, and had unexpected subtlety. Lamb dopiaza, orange ice-cream, really good chips. Yum. House wine not much to write home about though.
Review 40:Hotel felt sketchy. While clean, random doors around the room, lack of real welcome, and unkept vibe made the experience odd.
Review 41:The restaurant and the people were terrific.
Review 42:We booked into the top floor room which were described as quiet. This was not the case, the noise from the bar and the juke box kept us up till 1.30 in the morning.
Review 43:Good breakfast
Review 44:Reception is the bar of a very busy pub and the initial impression is quite poor. The building is quite tatty around the edges - dirty carpets and scuffed walls, but it is clean. In our room we discovered that the TV did not work (no satellite signal, and no remote control) and when the staff were asked about this they really weren't helpful.
Review 45:The food at The Crag was excellent. We had a light supper there which was way above expectation and the breakfast was really good too. Dining room staff were very efficient and friendly. Room was clean and the facilities were good (apart from the TV not working). Scotland was very warm when we were visiting and it was good that the hotel provided a sheet as well as a duvet as that was all that was needed for sleeping. Location of hotel in the main street in Callander is good.
Review 46:Car Parking as it was behind hotel and minimal with poor surface
Review 47:Unpretentious and no more than we expected. We looked at other eateries and were delighted with our decision to return in the evening for dinner.
Review 48:Its an informal kind of place, the staff are friendly, rooms are comfortable and the food is really excellent - especially the haggis at breakfast! Dinner was really high quality too and in a very relaxing environment. Great place to stay!
Review 49:The whole place was filthy. The entrance and the stairway carpet to the bedrooms was appalling. The room was not at all like the advertised picture and very small. The bed linen. which was meant to be white, was grey and not ironed. All really disappointing.
Review 50:The only thing that this place has in its favour is the location. Middle of the High Street with easy access to the shops and restuarants.
Review 51:Electric heater in room wasn't working properly, ideal for us but some people may have found it on the cool side. I'm sure that it would have been changed if I had complained.
Review 52:Room and breakfast excellent.
Review 53:Inexperience staff at breakfast, language difficulty with staff
Review 54:Ideal location on the Main Street, handy for all shops and restaurants and pubs. Lovely cooked breakfast.
Review 55:No power shower. Pressure too low. Had to run around to get wet!!! Parking- parking to rear of building, space only for 3 cars. No lighting. Poor.
Review 56:Location on street.
Review 57:The four poster room was a good size with full size bathroom. The owner Alex will go out of his way to help and go over and above to give you a personal service. The food in the restaurant was also really good.
Review 58:The room was very small. It's a town situation, so there is nowhere to sit outside if the weather is nice.
Review 59:convenient for the shops and restaurants of Callander, and for reaching the lovely countryside of the Trossachs. Lovely soft quilts and a nice breakfast. Friendly staff. I had booked an upstairs room but because there were other rooms available, we were given one on the ground floor with a bath, which was nice.
Review 60:No Sleep due to plumbing making a lot of noise all night. Violently sick after having a meal in the place. Doors being banged all night. Will never go back
Review 61:Noise from bar. Was staying on top floor and it sounded as if people were having a conversation right outside the room. May be quieter on week days.
Review 62:Decor Cleanliness Breakfast Facilities Location Price
Review 63:The bed was a bit creaky but still managed to sleep.
Review 64:Staff were friendly and helpfull as were the people we met in the bar at night. The breakfast was excellent and so good it was included in the price ☺
Review 65:Parking limited with road works on main road to the front of the property. No subsequent noise though and the hotel can't do anything about it!
Review 66:Met with a smile and a warm reception. Room was upgraded on arrival to a double four poster bed. Evening meal and breakfast were very well received and cooked to a good standard, breakfast exceptional! Public bar area wasn't used but appeared to be quite vibrant. No noise in the bedroom which enabled a good nights sleep. The wooden shutters in the bedroom were a nice touch and provided a blackout room. Would definitely recommend to family and friend.
Review 67:The room was very small and could have done with a makeover as well as the stair, the wardrobe door had to be kept shut with a piece of cardboard. The plumbing was very noisy and gave out loud noises even when not in use, loud enough to wake you up in the middle of the night.
Review 68:The staff were excellent, they kept the room very clean and change the towels every day. They were very helpful with any enquires we had. The location was very good right in the town centre.
Review 69:staff were very helpful and friendly, rooms were well appointed and just right for our one night stay Restaurant on the main floor was good and the bar was a great place to unwind after our day of sightseeing
Review 70:The bar is noisy and can be heard on the top floor until closing at midnight. Fine for a young couple but others might not like it.
Review 71:Food was excellent, especially the breakfast!! Great wifi Comfortable & warm bed Lovely staff
Review 72:Getting my credit card rejected and replaced due to what my bank referred to as possible fraud from your company and that despite confirming my request for a vegetarian breakfast...this was not on offer.
Review 73:The traditional character of the hotel. Friendly staff.
Review 74:The pub can get a bit noisy, especially at weekends, and this noise can travel up stairs, which may not be so good if you want an early night, but not a problem if you're in the bar.
Review 75:Central location in in town with its own car park. The bar is a friendly local and the staff are helpful. The food (breakfast) was spot-on and the rooms oused with character. We'll be back!!
Review 76:Room offered was small, drab, dark, old furniture, dirty bed cover. Moved to a lighter room bigger room. Hotel not up to the usual standard of hotels on your website.
Review 77:They moved us to a better room but not up to your website standards.
Review 78:Breakfast hours are restricted to one hour. But it does say to ask if you need it earlier. Which I didn't. So it is probably my own fault.
Review 79:Warm friendly atmosphere from all staff. Building was very homely. Locals rubbing shoulders with holiday makers was great to see in the bar area. Great food. Great value.
Review 80:The room and bathroom were outdated. The sink in the bathroom was split. the room itself did not feel clean and there was 20 years of dust coagulated under the window and by the radiator. Also the age of the bedspreads made the bed look and feel dirty. The room just did not feel clean. Because of that, our booking was definitely not good value for money
Review 81:the staff was pleasant the bathroom was clean the breakfast was good although Crags Hotel is a pub, no noise came to our bedroom from the bar and dining area (which was only separated from our bedroom by a lobby and door).
Review 82:Quite a lot of noise came from the bar, although we were 3 flights away we still had disturbed sleep till 2am from locals using bar facilities. This was mentioned at booking but was told it would stop around midnight.
Review 83:friendly staff and locals, we were made to feel very at home. Food excellent.
Review 84:Not really a problem for me on the night but please be aware that you can hear people in the bar from the rooms on the front. If you think it will be a problem for you then request a room at the rear.
Review 85:Food was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Clean, comfortable rooms with secure parking at the rear. Great location for touring.
Review 86:We stayed in the family room and the smell of damp wasdisgusting. My childs bedding had a stain on the sheet although theroom had been cleaned.
Review 87:Friendly and helpful staff, good choice for breakfast.
Review 88:Rare summer heat, room needed a fan. Few electrical outlets in the room, noisy bar in the evening. Many cheap rooms available in town, but we were happy with the Crags.
Review 89:Breakfast was nice, the proprietess was the chef and is lovely. Room was comfortable and nice size.
Review 90:In need of repair and serious modernisation. Bathroom extractor fan defunct and no opening window. Inadequate clothes hanging space. Noisy water pipes.
Review 91:Friendly staff. Accepted by locals. Excellent food. Good bar
Review 92:Nothing!
Review 93:Everything! The staff and locals alike were extremely warm and friendly. The food was excellent. Very good value for money and a fantastic base to explore the area
Review 94:The sofa bed in the family room is not really comfortable, the walls need re-painting
Review 95:Nice staff, good location (not far from things to see, but easy to reach from Glasgow by car), full breakfast (plenty to eat!), the pub with the locals
Review 96:Bed was really uncomfortable
Review 97:Location was great, on the main street
Review 98:the weather was very wet but the log fire made up for that
Review 99:the welcome when we arrived, that lasted throughout our stay, and they loved the dog.
Review 100:Shower,door slamming late at night pub door, breakfast
Review 101:Breakfast in the morning was great.
Review 102:Room not as expected. No meals available. Noise from bar below. Had better for less money.

Review 106:It was comfortable and clean.
