Reviews for Abisko Guesthouse
Review 1:Price is quite expensive for a small room, but considering very few accommodations available in Abisko, this accommodation has been a good one.
Review 2:Friendly staff, clean rooms and toilets, many activities provided near this place.
Review 3:Only when we arrived at the hotel, were we told that the only supermarket in the neighborhood will be closed for the 2 days we will stay. And this is a hotel without meal service. The hotel should have done a better job notifying us the situation before our departure so that we can prepare some food in advance. And what's even worse, when I told the hotel that we have a birthday girl and asked them where we can get a cake or at least some food, they said there's nothing they can do. So we had to starve until the only restaurant nearby opened in one hour. Good thing is that the restaurant did serve nice food with reasonable price. And when I told the big chef that we don't have any food for breakfast of next day, that nice gentleman immediately packed some food for us so that we won't starve the next morning. It was truly nice of him and we do appreciate him a lot. A hotel with this price really should have done a better job. Claus and Hannes are really nice though. Even more sadly, we didn't get to see aurora for our two nights there, which is what we came all the way for. So I guess, if this is what God arranged for me, is this God telling me to come again to fulfill my aurora dream? I think yes.
Review 4:The location is great for enjoying the wild nature in North Sweden. The lake is 10 to 15 minutes' walk away, and the Abisko National Park is right nearby. And the hotel is close to the train station, as well, which can be very convenient considering the transportation there.
Review 5:the aurora trip is too expensive and we see nothing but felt sooooooo cold, they highly recommend the trip and said the weather is perfect. So we take this. If you want to see aurora just go to the lake by yourself and wait! the room was small too! It's not worth the price!
Review 6:The heating is not good, the one in the living room was not working and the one in the bedroom is not warm enough. We felt a little cold inside the room.
Review 7:The location is very good.
Review 8:The wall is thin, you can easily hear next door's mobil vibration, not to mention whatever they are talking about.
Review 9:Very close to the train station and the National park, nice staff, comfortable room, clean and tidy.lots of activities to join.nice view around the house.wifi works well, a small grocery just 100metres away.
Review 10:All activities looked great but all were quite expensive. Would have done them all if they were more affordable.
Review 11:The Guesthouse was very clean. Klas could not do more to try and make your stay perfect. Lots of activities on offer. Right across the road from the supermarket.
Review 12:1. We can not swipe Visa card from France or the state there, but our cards worked everywhere else. What's worse, they charged us 70 bucks for so-called transaction fee when we pay in US dollar cash. 2. The room is really small(<10m2) and basically equipped with no furniture. 3. Toilet is very far from the room. Shower time is restricted within 3 min, I wonder if we're in military. 4. Refrigerator in the kitchen is really messy and smelly. And it's not separated by rooms, so that goods of everybody are in chaos. 5. The activities remanded by the hotel are comparatively higher than other hotels.
Review 13:Great location, right next to the railway station and supermarket
Review 14:We received the utmost hospitality from Klaus and his staff. Great activities offered & airport transfers. We felt like family, very well taken care of and treated with respect. I would choose this as the best place to stay in Abisko (we stayed at the Mountain Lodge and were very disappointed until we switched to Guesthouse). Can't wait to come back!
Review 15:the train was very unreliable to Narvik, and we had to travel using the guesthouse van (so nothing wrong with the guesthouse)
Review 16:friendly and helpful staff, good accommodation (esp. the dryer in the bathroom), good activities available to join, proximity to the Lake and to the CoOp
Review 17:The rooms were very small, without windows. You have to pay for everything, every activity or trip or transfer to the airport. The prices are high.
Review 18:The location is perfect. There is a store nearby to buy food.
Review 19:Almost everything is good! But if you want to stay there, the room without windows feels like a prison, so pls consider it.
Review 20:I like this place so much, very close to Abisko Ostra station and the road towards to lake of national park to see Northern lights by walk. So we didnt have tour for Aurora, but we saw and took photos of Aurora, 1st day was luck, we saw it 5-6pm ish when we are out from the guesthouse and second day we checked Short term forcast of Aurora and Clouds hourly and saw it. Coop(convinient store) is just 1-2min walking distance, WC and shower room are clean. Kichen is okay condition it's very depends on what kind of ppl are staying with. I didnt know they borrow winter clothes to the guest, if you go there, ask them beforehand.
Review 21:Great location for the Northern Lights tour, ask for the Lapland tour by Frank. Very friendly people and amazing surroundings. Very practical, supermarket next door, and restaurant 2 min walk.
Review 22:That was kind of self-serviced apartment. I had to cover the blanket by myself. But that system means that the blanket is always clean.
Review 23:The service of the owner was excellent ! Despite I was too late for check-in, He woke up and provided warm accomodation to me.
Review 24:I stayed in ABISKO GUESTHOUSE in November 2015, few weeks ago and I regret to write a bard review about my experience. It started bad from the very beginning. When I made the room reservation I contacted them to have information about the tours they organize. It has to be said that they have very good ones!! But the communication was absolutely not fluent. It needed to have the timings in order to plan my trip and it was almost impossible.Taking into account I wanted to rent a car or buy train tickets, I needed this information. One day before the arrival date I sent them an email to know the timings (once again) and they told me that when I arrive the people at the front desk will inform me (I needed in advance...).When I arrived there, they don't explained me anything until I ask them even where was located the room..They told me the tour started at 19:00, I was there at time, and finally it was at 20:00 (and they knew it!!!!) but nobody came to say nothing. It's not pleasent to lose time and to wait outside the reception office (because it was closed) for 1 hour...maybe 3 degrees...The recepcion is not in the same building as the rooms. And the rooms are located in 2 different areas. I discovered that point after doing the check in ...but nobody told us how to arrive to our room, if it was located in one area or in the other area. (it was cold, baggage from place to place...)The room was clean, big enough and confortable. The worse point was that it was room number 1, just in the main entrance, the door of the room is just in the place where the people leave their shoes ...so obviously where there was more noise and disturb. And to make things more "exciting" they started to do some maintenance works while we were inside the room and they open/close the door several times. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!
Review 25:Location was good. The room was clean. The showers and bathroom as well even it was shared.
Review 26:I liked that Klas, the owner was very accommodating and nice to all his guest. I liked that the place was well kept and maintained. Great place to stay, it has everything you need, even hair dryers is provided for use. The kitchen has all the utensils you will need for basic cooking. If you need food and supplies there is a supermarket just across this place. There's even fresh cookies for free in the common room. There are also books and some board games for use while waiting for the aurora to do its dance. There are also activities that the owner can organize for you. I joined the Aurora hunting on snowmobile tour and i had the most wonderful experience. I saw the aurora dance and had great pictures too! All in all i had a great and pleasant stay. Surely will want to come again soon!
Review 27:Room is very small without individual bath room. No onsite restaurant available.
Review 28:Very friendly staff; very close to train station and short walk away from a beautiful lake.
Review 29:The place is very near at ost station and supermarket is just 1 minute from the guest house. And it was cozy and very very clean bathroom and shower room i highly recommend this guest house to people who wants to go to the abisko:)
Review 30:This guesthouse is a great place to stay if you want to be in abisko! It's just 2.5 km from the mountain station and the road to get there is well lit up so walking is always an option. It's much cheaper than the other accommodations around and has a perfect location, there's a grocery store and a bar/restaurant just 10 steps away. You have a great view of the mountains and the lake. It's also a great spot to see the northern lights. They organize a lot of tours and activities so if you don't have a fixed itinerary then don't worry they can help you out All in all a great experience :)
Review 31:There was no activity during this time of year . Nothing was mentioned in the website . They should mention about the activities during stay time .
Review 32:Good location could see Aurora Borealis .
Review 33:There was a supermarket right next door so that one could buy whatever necessary for breakfast (or other meals). The restaurant next door was also quite decent. And this guesthouse has a direct view towards Lapporten and overlooks the Torneträsk lake. Beautiful spot!
Review 34:Edimus, who worked in the office graciously shuttled us to Narvik. This saved our connection for the rest of our trip. Thank you for your kindness!!
Review 35:It was not very clean.
Review 36:We had a room with view on the lake. That was fantastic and there was plenty space for two persons. If you could get the room/apartment on first floor with view, you get value for money.
Review 37:Great location to see the northern lights over the frozen lake. Facilities are great and the staff was very helpful in booking activities. Supermarket next door.
Review 38:slightly expensive, a bit too small room, noisy when people going out or coming in as our room is right at the entrance.
Review 39:Good service of the staff, friendly and helpful. Room with window with lake view, superb. Kitchen is fully equipped and common area is spacious.
Review 40:Lots of trails around but only a wall map inside the guest house. No mini maps. Minor problem
Review 41:Very close to the actual national park. Train station 5 minutes away or less by feet (abisko ostra) 5 minutes by feet from the lake. All activities available at the desk Extremely friendly staff
Review 42:The hotel staff is incredible! We stayed over two nights and they helpedus locate a great aurora watching spot and even loaned us some clothes. We also took a trip to Narvic with the hotel's guides Alex andPaulina. The trip to Narvic ended up being our favorite part of the weekin Sweden. Alex and Paulina are great people. From the train take thefirst abisko exit!!! Skoal!
Review 43:Extremely poor level of ventilation in a room the size of a broom cupboard and with no window. Room priced at hotel cost & had to pay for room before seen
Review 44:Location
Review 45:everything was fine
Review 46:Abisko guesthouse was awesome. The location close to the train station and the lake is very convenient for connecting to other places and great walks. I like the service transfer from Kiruna airport to Abisko. They provide us with warm overalls, boots and gloves. The activities with Klas and Alex were superb awesome. I really like the snowmobile trip to see aurora and the Närvik tour. There is a supermarket just in front of the house. The kitchen was complete and very clean. Everything was very clean at the house. The rooms were a bit small but the beds were comfortable enough to have very good sleep after very long days full of activities. Common bathrooms were always very clean. I strongly recommend Abisko guesthouse to everyone visiting Abisko.
Review 47:Pillow too soft.
Review 48:Owner and staff super friendly. Hotel right next to Abisko Ostra station with a huge signboard very easy to find. The kitchen is well equipped, and cross the road there is a super market.
Review 49:Room was 2m x 2m, very dirty (hairs, dust everywhere) and without window. Walls very thin. Go anywhere else for the same amount!
Review 50:Position. Free rent of snow equipment and tripods.
Review 51:Nothing.
Review 52:The staff is extremly nica and helpful. Nice snow mobile tours. 5min walk to train station. 30 seconds walk to COOP (supermarket). Amazing view of the montain and the lake. Nice kitchen. Enough space for everybody to store food.
Review 53:Great location - Just 10 minutes' walk to the iced lake that was the best place to watch aurora borealis Convenient - Few minutes to train station (Abisko Östra). Also, there is a coop opposite to the hotel. With 2 full-fledged kitchens inside the hotel, this is great for long stay and chasing northern light
Review 54:Very warm and friendly hotel. The owner is very helpful and keen to please his guests. Small clean kitchen for DIY cooking (your only choice other than the pub down the street) and the closest proximity to the COOP supermarket than any other accommodation in Abisko. We came in winter and wpuld love to return in summer to see the contrast. Northern lights were AMAZING.
Review 55:The owner and staff went out of their way to help when we found the roads were closed to Norway. Basic, but very clean & comfortable accommodation. You must book the snow mobile tour to see the aurora!
Review 56:The hospitality, location, all the optiins required lije kitchen for cooking, WiFi for browsing, winter suit, gloves, cap and shoes to keep you warm. What not. Everything is top class.
Review 57:This is a great bunkhouse with top class facilities and excellent location. All the staff are very friendly and exceedingly good location. Great place to see the northern lights.
Review 58:There was nothing bad, though a toaster would have been nice.
Review 59:Basic accommodation very near to the outdoors. It was designed so that guests could easily mix and that made the stay enjoyable. Klaus, the owner, was very helpful. I would happily come again.
Review 60:Location - Its not easy to get to the guesthouse (to be fair, abisko is generally not an easy area to get to). I must qualify to say that the train station Abisko OSTRA is about 5 minutes walk away so its really as convenient as you can get if you are going to this area (and not the Turistation area). Room size - The rooms can be alittle small for 2. However, this is balanced by the 2 shared living area, which is very comfortably set up and can comfortably host 7 - 8 small groups of people at any one time. Overall, no major dislikes
Review 61:The owner of the guesthouse Klaus was a fantastic host, He kept giving my wife and me suggestions on where to go / what to do, and offered to drive us to the Turiststation. Also, because he is a rescue team personnel (for tourists who wander into the mountains / forests and get lost), you cant get any safer than going out with him on snowmobile tours. The location of the guesthouse is fabulous, with a decent restaurent within 10 mins of walking, and a supermarket less than 50m away, which provides you with all the ingredients you will need to cook at the guesthouse. Wifi signal is very strong and fast, which was very important as it allowed me to surf the net and watch shows in bad weather, which i unfortunately experienced.
Review 62:I didn't get to see any aurora but the guest house is close to the frozen lake for your own adventure and to try your luck. Equipment (light, ski jacket, gloves and ski boots) was provided for free. Just be aware of the fact that you might need to make international phone calls for check-in and stuff if the host is not at reception.
Review 63:Good to have an alarm, when an Aurora show up,so that whoever sees first, presses the alarm to alert all the guests.
Review 64:Location - close to train station, beautiful view, fully loaded kitchen and a Coop store in a walkable distance. Value for money. Great staff (Simona)and a very caring owner (Klas). One stop shop for all activities if booked in advance.
Review 65:Rooms a bit small but once in Abisko you want to spent your time outside not inside sitting in a room.
Review 66:The facilities are absolutely amazing and clean. Right infront of the guesthouse is Coop. Staff is very helpful and provided us with all the clothes you need to survive in this winter.
Review 67:Our room (#1) was located at main entrance, we did not manage to sleep well at night , as the guests keep going in and out. Worse, there was a guest forgetting the pass code to enter, and keep knocking on the door at wee hours. My boyfriend ended up have to get up and open the door for her. The room is also near to the common shared bathroom, and people using it throughout the night and makes up hard to sleep. The dining area is so small and crowded, and we ended up standing to have our breakfast. I would not recommend this hotel unless other places are full, as the hotel is not cheap either and below expectation overall, other than the helpful owner/polite staff.
Review 68:The owner and staff with good hospitality, cooking facility is good
Review 69:I had a problem with my room price - I reserved it for a price which turned out being incorrect. Booking wrote me SIX months after my reservation (on behalf of the lodge, they said; while at the guesthouse they told me it was Booking messing up with the pricing) to ask for the difference, which is definitely very poor customer care. In the end this was sorted out but you are left with the feeling that this should have been fixed internally between the property and Booking. I also suggest guests to ask for the list of excursion as soon as booking the room, as the most interesting ones (dog sledding, for example) will be fully booked by the time you'll be there. The trashbin in the kitchen was not emptied regularly.
Review 70:I have mixed feelings on this place. The owner is a nice guy (but I had a bad experience with pricing - see the negative aspects on this) and I had a private room in the shared chalet, where you share the kitchen, living room and bathroom with other guests. The room itself was fantastic - large, comfy bed - as well as the fully equipped kitchen. The chalet was very warm and confortable. I met great people there! WiFi is powerful and fast. The pub/restaurant and the station are a couple of minutes away on feet; the supermarket is opposite the complex. The best spot to see northern lights is down by the lake, 5 to 10 mins walking from the guesthouse.
Review 71:The wifi is unstable, I think the reason is our room is near to the hostel gate.
Review 72:The location is perfect. It's close to the supermarket (just 2 min) and just 5 min to the train station. The staff is nice and helpful. You can buy some food and cook by yourself. It's a little noisy. Because everyday many people to go outside to hunt the aurora:). But it's ok.
Review 73:Bunk beds didn't allow enough room to sit on the lower bed.
Review 74:Location is good, close to the lake, the supermarket and the train station. Staff are really nice and friendly, also really helpful. Kitchen facility is quite cool.
Review 75:The check-in time is 3pm and check-out time is 11am. If you are coming by train, which normally arrives and leaves at noon, you would probably have to wait.
Review 76:Great location, 10 mins walking from the train station, 15 mins walking to the lakeside. The grocery is just accoss the road. Luckily we got a room in a two-bedroom apartment with shared living room and kitchen. The bedroom is small but the living room is great! Staff is very nice and helpful. It should be an excellent place for northern light but we did not see any due to the whether. The chance would be greater if staying 2-3 nights.
Review 77:We had the self contained cabin to ourselves for a night which was great. The owner Claus, couldn't have been more kind and helpful letting us use his warm clothing throughout our stay and keeping us posted about best times to see the northern lights. He really was a great host - I completely recommend Abisko Guesthouse as the perfect base.
Review 78:The rooms are really small and have no windows (the ventilation is forced, and insufficient!). The beds are uncomfortable and had several public hairs on the mattresses and sheets. The doors are very noisy, and since the restrooms are in common, people are continuosly opening and slamming them. Sleeping or resting in the afternoon was impossible. The reception is often empty, and the staff wasn't very informed on activities nearby.
Review 79:Position
Review 80:The room really was tiny with bunk beds a wardrobe and a chair and no space to move. It's fine for a short stay but over priced for such a small room.
Review 81:The staff were friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were clean and had shower gel and hairdryer. There were no queues for the shared bathrooms. Good facilities. 30 minute walk to abisko tourist station. Shop just opposite.
Review 82:The location is perfect. 500 meters from the lake and a restaurant + supermarket around the corner. The staff is very helpfull. They warned is at the moment the aurora was active above the lake. They also gave us some goods for the first day, because the shops were already closed when we arrived. Two times we saw the aurora above our appartment.
Review 83:Super friendly staff! Good kitchens, good common area. Activities are well priced and plentiful. The owner, Klas, knows the needs of the travelers.
Review 84:The main factor of choosing this place is that they have a Coop only 5-10 mins walk away. The place was a little small but very comfortable. There are many showers and WCs. Nice common area with an outdoor view and homely deco. Activities can be arranged with the owner and they were extremely helpful by recommending places to go and things to do! Went on a snow mobile trip with my friends and I had a blast! Seen the aurora together with a shooting star!! Expensive trip but the experience is worth the money!
Review 85:The rooms and single beds are way too small - even if you're not here for staying in the rooms! The feeling of Abisko can be sad, desolated, and the houses seem to be randomly placed in the big freezing field. That's really all the bad that can be said.
Review 86:Swedes are awesomely nice and friendly. Abisko Guesthouse is very well located for going to go sledding, to go walking, siteseeing; the view is awesome, like the cold and the absence of the sun. The Guesthouse is totally clean, the 2 kitchens very welcome if you like cooking. The WiFi is excellent.
Review 87:Our stay here was very comfortable.Klaus and his staff are very warm and welcoming. They helped us in everything required to plan for our daily excursions. Abisko guest house is definitely recommended!
Review 88:Everything was perfect!
Review 89:The owners were amazing and bent over backwards to help arrange trips or activities. They made me feel instantly at home and couldn't have made my visit to Abisko any better! When I return to see the midnight sun, I will undoubtedly be staying here again!
Review 90:The guesthouse (run by a family) owners were extremely helpful in everything I needed there. They got the sky station chair lift reservations for me and a few others. In fact, he drove us to the sky station and also took us around to a waterfall the next day. The best part was that the lady offered real good snow boots for me and another girl. We could not have explored at all in the 2 days without those boots. Excellent Service !
Review 91:Wish I had stayed there longer
Review 92:The guesthouse seemed to be built not long ago. Facilities were so new and in good condition. The location was extremely good. The supermarket was just on the opposite. It only took less than 10 minutes to walk to the lake. The host was really nice and helped us a lot. Special thanks to Rosa!
Review 93:- price level is quite high compared to very Basic services - room was extremely small with only a double-decker bed and without a window - There were only one toilet and shower in the whole hotel for all guests
Review 94:+ personnel was very helpful + location is good in the center of Abisko
Review 95:Too loud doors. For a long stay the room we had would be a little bit small (no window).
Review 96:Nice view from eating room. Good equipped kitchen. Directly in "center" of abisko. Supermarket on the other side. Close to train. Linen \ towels supplied. Direct path to kungsleden.
Review 97:doors slamming at all hours, they make your bed rock! Need to soundproof the rooms a little as they are so small but you can hear everything
Review 98:clean, accessible and convenient, great staff
Review 99:The use of a keypad lock system in lieu of keys makes people movement and opening/closing of doors quite noisy.
Review 100:Good secure accommodation. Close to supermarket. Walking distance to the national park. Spectacular lake views.
Review 101:It should be considered to allow the guests to open the window in their rooms.
Review 102:The guesthouse was very clean and comfortable with two cosy living rooms and a well-appointed kitchen. We appreciated the staff´s service and hospitality vey much and picked up a number of good suggestions on which tours to go, what to do etc. Since most of the hiking trails start at STF (ca. 30min to walk), we were thankful that the staff gave us a lift if we wanted to. Supermarket right aound the corner.
Review 103:good kitchen and nice location
Review 104:Tinny room.
Review 105:Location! So close to supermarket and train station. The kitchen is pretty good. You can find everything you need. The staffs are nice.
Review 106:Better to clear the rubbish more often.
Review 107:The location is close to supermarket. The owner is very nice and so as the staff.
Review 108:Feeling cold in the room Hair and dust on the mattress
Review 109:Friendly staff
Review 110:Convenient and cosy location to watch northern lights
Review 111:Lacked shampoo and cleaning products in the shower room.
Review 112:Friendly staff, 3-minute walk from the train station, beside a supermarket (very convenient)
Review 113:everything perfect
Review 114:Great service.
Review 115:It's a great place for seeing the Northern Lights and is very near to the Railway station. All the things we needed were nearby
Review 116:Space to relax, share family time, grocery store close and places to walk, cook and eat together- warm shower, comfortable bed, beautiful scenery
Review 117:Free upgrade to a unit with ensuite. Obliging staff who helped me with luggage.
Review 118:Nothing
Review 119:Great location, Laporten is in front of the hostel, close to grocery shop.
Review 120:The staff were super helpfull and friendly :) The house was nice, cozy and btw, the shower was amazing!!
