Reviews for Mitsui Garden Hotel Ueno
Review 1:room temperature control generally made the room too warm. This is my common experience in Japan with many other hotels.
Review 2:easy booking, check in, check out. Great location. Friendly staff. Bigger rooms & bathroom.
Review 3:It's not a great restaurant area, but that's not the fault of the hotel!
Review 4:Great location for northern Tokyo: facing the JR and Kesei stations, with a metro stop underneath the hotel (take Exit 1). Quiet room on the 14th floor: no street noise whatsoever. Hotel maintenance standards are high. You can be in Ueno Park in 5 minutes by taking the pedestrian overpass from the hotel.
Review 5:Pricey for the value we were getting.
Review 6:Great location; next to the Ueno subway station and skyliner station where we take an express train to the Narita Airport.
Review 7:The double bed is small.
Review 8:Location is very convenient since it is near to Ueno station. Room is compact, clean & comfort, however I think the double bed is abit small even for Asian like me who are about 60kg (or may be because it is Economy Double Room). Thought the hotel room may be noisy since it is close to train station but I am very happy to find out the soundproof in the room is superb! Have a quiet & sound sleep at night. Plus : Room come with hair dryer, hair straighter & face steamer! A big surprise for lady guest.
Review 9:No one spoke good english, very hard to have a conversation with. The hotel didn't t accept our credit card because they dont accept "visa electron" and that wasn't written anywhere, not on booking and not on the hotels web site, altough booking gauranteed for it. They wouldnt admit it was their fault and didnt know how to help us. They only wanted for us to pay in cash for 4 nights which wasn't so cheap. We stood there for 3 hours after traveling for 20 hours from europe and they still asked for more time. Their english was the worst ever, so bad for the hotel because they don't know how to explain what's going on and they dont understand what you are trying to tell them.
Review 10:Location
Review 11:There is no lobby, there is no place to wait for the room to be cleared, and the price is hefty in comparison to other hotels in similar locations. Probably it is the 4-star which justifies this, but I don't see a reason to call this hotel 4 star compared to others at Akhiabara and elsewhere with 3.
Review 12:The hotel is in an excellent location and clean and convenient.
Review 13:SMOKEY room...this issue ruined my stay...it was a "smoking room" so I shouldn't complain...they were out of non-smoking rooms. So I guess my complaint could be: Not enough Non-Smoking Rooms.
Review 14:Lots of little room amenities...clean
Review 15:It is overpriced for what you get, the pillows are flat and not very comfortable and they ran out of umbrellas!
Review 16:Location, location, location. The room was comparatively large for Tokyo and they have great block-out curtains without many superfluous lights in the room. They have a nice selection of bathroom goodies.
Review 17:Reception lobby is too small, There is no money exchange at the hotel
Review 18:Very helpful staff, Italian restaurant offering vegetarian food options, location is great as you get the Sky Train directly till Ueno from Narita airport
Review 19:- Bed was a little short and narrow (I'm 185cm) - Breakfast hours are short (7:30-9:30) and food is mostly Japanese, with limited choice for western-style breakfast - Room didn't have a lot of place to put clothes and luggage
Review 20:- The room had ladies beauty set (hair drier, facial vapor, bath robe) - The hotel gave us a nice fan as a honeymoon gift - Staff was very helpful and kind - Shower and shampoo products were great - Very close to the Ueno train station, subway lines literally next door - Dining options around the hotel and the station are great
Review 21:Awful breakfast, stale bread and margarine instead of butter. No comparison with the wonderful Mitsui Garden Premier Ginza Tokyo which we had stayed in previously.
Review 22:Good location
Review 23:A very convenient location by Ueno station with friendly staff. The room is small but sufficient for a good night sleep and it is very clean with all mod cons equipped.
Review 24:wifi signal is weak in my room
Review 25:Room space is normal but I believe it's the biggest in the Ueno city area, location is pretty nice( just few steps from the Tokyo line exit. The service can rate more than 10 since they are very friendly to us.
Review 26:Breakfast poor and expensive for what was on offer (coffee shop next door much better)
Review 27:Good location, on main JR line and close to several museums. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 28:We loved everyday in here, everything is nice and comfortable. This hotel have a great location and near to the elevator,so you can use the babycar very easily . We have two little children with us this time, the room isn't too small, enough for our 4 people. The only thing that I feel a little pity is they don't have baby bath tub. Next time we still will choose here for our family travel.
Review 29:very good location, just nearby 0101. The staffs are quite nice and friendly. I like the room. Clean, not that small (as normal room in Japan), will choose it again!
Review 30:we sprung for the relatively expensive breakfast buffet once, and were very disappointed. There are many cafes around the train station that are better.
Review 31:Really conveniently close to Ueno Station and express train to Narita airport. Hotel rooms were small but clean and staff was very nice.
Review 32:Wifi connectivity was weak (in my room), which caused wifi to drop at times. Breakfast area is small and can become very crowded. The hotel does note this in the in-room literature.
Review 33:Location! 3 minute walk (by skybridge) from Ueno Station. 5min walks to Keisieueno Station and the Ameya Yokocho market. 40min walk to Tokyo Skytree.
Review 34:I asked for non smoking room but instead I got smoking room with air refresher sprayed in attempt to cover up the smoke smell. Do they really think we can't smell the smoke!?
Review 35:Location and courteous employees.
Review 36:Bead filled pillows quite uncomfortable.
Review 37:Overhead walkway makes for an easy two minute walk to Ueno Station. Typically small, but well appointed room. Very helpful and friendly front desk staff.
Review 38:Good hotel, we stayed eight days here in June and found the service and amenities to be excellent. Yes rooms are smaller than western standards, but all Japanese hotel rooms are small. Staff were very helpful.
Review 39:Little basic and room very small. Breakfast ok but not great.
Review 40:Location was perfect for my trip. Near skyliner train station in ueno so convenient for narita airport and close to the beautiful park and zoo in ueno.
Review 41:Only downside was Japanese pillow that is like sleeping on a bag of packing peanuts, (but this is part of the "real" experience, I know)
Review 42:We felt like we were experiencing the "real" Japan here because we were the only westerners in the hotel as far as I could tell. It was super convenient to ueno station where there is Starbucks and lots of nice shops.
Review 43:We were really disappointed that we had to pay for our breakfast as the other guests we saw had vouchers. We paid a lot of money for our room and had to pay for breakfast when others didn't. It seemed unfair to us.
Review 44:Great locality and very friendly staff. We appreciated that we could leave our bags at the hotel when we checked out as our flight wasn't until late in the evening.
Review 45:Bed comfort can be better.
Review 46:The location just next to train station is superd for commuting. Room is hygienic and clean. Staffs are very helpful and able to help us book our requested restaurants.
Review 47:The room is bigger than most hotels in Japan I stayed in. Small but very nice gesture of providing bath salt. They have glasses, mug and wine glasses in the room (I always struggle with not having a glass for drinking water while making tea/coffee at the same time); as well as adapters with you having to ask! Not sure if they have it in every room but mine even face steamer and hair Straightener!
Review 48:Excellent location and fantastic front desk staff that were very helpful and spoke English to us! A win! They kept our bags after check out for free and we picked them up without any trouble several hours later. Before our trip they called to tell us there would be construction and that we could cancel. We didn't want to deal with finding another room so we kept it. I'm glad we did! We never heard construction noise and it was a pleasure staying here! Small room, but we expected that, and tons of in room amenities.
Review 49:Clean, comfortable hotel. Friendly staffs alway greeted to guests. Felt like home. Wifi was also stable.
Review 50:The location was great as it's right outside the metro station exit and very close to JR station. The room has a decent view, newly renovated with a very modern style and very comfortable bed. Staffs are super nice and good at English. One of them can speak Chinese.
Review 51:Staff spoke moderate English which is sometime hard to understand. English communication needs to improve.
Review 52:Very convenient location; opposite to Ueno station, convenient store, walking distance to shopping area. Rooms are small but function well with typical Japanese design. There is coined laundry on 2nd floor. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 53:Very tight for space in both reception and room. Good for business travel, space a bit tight when coming from outside Tokyo.
Review 54:Very well equipped. Comfortable beds and good wifi. Staff helpful.
Review 55:Smallness of the room and one side of the bed wedged against a wall.
Review 56:Happy with the location. The Italian restaurant was a very pleasant surprise, our one dinner there was excellent.
Review 57:Great room, great location, and very cooperative staff. You only need to ask for anything, they'll give it. I've proven this time and again. I look forward to coming back.
Review 58:Hotel is located on a great location not far from Ueno station (cross the road from asakusa exit) Staff can speak english. Room not too small for 2 people.
Review 59:Only English TV channel, BBC World, was permanently over- dubbed in Japanese.
Review 60:Location provided easy walking access to sights, activities and transport.
Review 61:Staff were unable to help with arrange a large taxi with a short notice, unable to provide alternative way?! The hotel do not have a loading/off loading area, and no sign to direct at all. Not convenient if travel by car/taxi.
Review 62:super location, easy to get to many places.
Review 63:It was literally a stone's throw away from Ueno JR line which made travelling very easy. The rooms were clean, nice and had the basic amenities although it was small, which was expected of any hotel in Tokyo. But surprisingly, the toilet was pretty decently sized. The staff were very efficient, the portable wifi i ordered came early and they had everything prepared for me upon check-in without me even asking. On days no room service were needed, we came back to our room with a bag of clean towels.
Review 64:Early check out, the check uot time ia 11am, and when I request for late check out until 12, they will charge me ¥1000.
Review 65:Location is perfect, near from Ueno station, Akihabara, and Ueno park.
Review 66:Guest service needs improvement. Though we hv informed d hotel tt we were staying in Tokyo for our wedding photograhy, there was no form of greeting from d hotel. Check-out time is strictly by 11am, thereafter it's ¥1000 per hr. Hv not encountered such a rigid hotel. Their understanding of English is quite weak generally.
Review 67:Good location, still relatively new since it only opened in 2014
Review 68:There is no such even one cabinet to store my stuff like clothes and what I have shopped. I have to keep them in my suitcase :).
Review 69:Quite medium to big room and bathroom comparing to usual Japanese hotels in Tokyo. Room is clean and bed is comfort.
Review 70:We book 2 rooms as family but they give 2 rooms at different floor which is strange and very annoying for us, at least they should be able to arrange at the same floor and they can not even extend 1 hour free checkout time although we stay for 4 nights
Review 71:This hotel is a short walk away from Ueno Park and convenient to Ueno Station (Exit 1 leads right to the hotel entrance). Lots of room amenities. Nice view of Tokyo Sky Tree. All staff (front desk, cleaning, restaurant) were smiling, friendly, and really seemed to want to help guests enjoy their stay. The Ueno area has an authentic Japanese feel to it, as opposed to the renovated upscale areas of Tokyo which are surreal. Enjoy!
Review 72:Based on our stay, there's nothing in mind to dislike.
Review 73:Excellent location. Awesome amenities nearby. Very clean rooms complimented by friendly staff. Really enjoyed the stay.
Review 74:Pillows not comfortable. Other than that, nothing.
Review 75:Great location next to exit 1 of Ueno rail station. Rooms clean and with aircon, but not particularly spacious. Everything you need for business travel.
Review 76:This is very professionally run hotel. The staff were more than helpful. Rooms were comfortable, relaxing and quiet. A mail subway station is just beside the hotel.
Review 77:We chose this hotel because it faces Ueno Station, from where we had to catch our train to the airport. The JR station is just across the hotel and the Keisei Station is just a few minutes further. Although the room was smallish, in a typical Japanese fashion, everything was really well designed and the amenities were plentiful.
Review 78:It's excellent location within walking distance to ueno station makes it ideal for those zipping in and out of Tokyo to connect to other parts of Japan by train.
Review 79:The location is really good. Just 10 steps walk from Exit 1 of Ueno subway station. Very close to the cosmetic shopping area. My wife bought 5 KGs of Japanese cosmetic products, and it's convenient to bring back to hotel.
Review 80:Staff were great, hotel was very clean and generously stocked for the busy traveller with regards to toiletries, hair products etc. Location great also .... for JR Line and the very recommended zoo (10mins walk). Can go direct to narita airport from ueno station on JR Line.
Review 81:Although the hotel is close to the Ueno Park, you need to use the overpass which is dotted with the homeless. Compared to the discount deals offered by the five star rated hotels, I felt the room rate for this hotel was highly overrated - rooms are tiny.
Review 82:Friendly staff and clean room. Right next to the Ueno metro station and the JR line is five minute walk distance.
Review 83:I had trouble turning the Japanese audio off while watching BBC news, but wifi was so good I just switched off the TV and watched news on my computer.
Review 84:This room was an excellent value. Despite being located on a massive corner directly opposite the Asakura exit of Ueno station, there was no street noise in my fifth floor room. Staff and service was among the best I've experienced in Asia.
Review 85:-Nothing, nothing at all
Review 86:-Great value, modern theme, brand new, everything you may expect from a japanese business hotel is here, and more. -To those looking to stay near Ueno, this place is in front of the JR station and a mere 5 minutes more to the Keisei line, both connecting NRT in no time
Review 87:The bed mattress was old and lumpy, rather uncomfortable - should be upgraded. Pillows were hard as rocks, most modern hotels offer choice of soft and firm pillows, but these were like sleeping on rocks.
Review 88:Again, the location was great, the room was small but very well equipped, the bathroom was very efficient and clean, the service was exceptionally good. Everything about this hotel is excellent except the comfort of the bed.
Review 89:Lack of direct shuttle bus to airport express or connections may create problems when carry heavy luggage.
Review 90:Near JR. and metro. Easy to locate. The window of the room look out to beautiful skytree and sunrise & moon.
Review 91:We enjoyed the stay. very little not to like.
Review 92:It was very easy to find. Close to station and the Ueno Gardens. Aemoyoko market was just in walking distance. A very interesting local market.
Review 93:Close to Ueno Station, loved the location. A lot of food places nearby and near two convenient stores. Accessible to airport via keisei sky train. Friendly staff.
Review 94:This area of Tokyo isn't the most glamorous. Lobby for check in was very small and easily crowded at certain times of day.
Review 95:Right next to Ueno Station Hotel room was new and clean. Staff was excellent, and spoke english.
Review 96:Limited selection of TV channels.
Review 97:Very attentive and helpful front desk staff. Very well equipped room, almost everything one could need, including a pants presser and women's facial treatment equipment.
Review 98:We were able to visit all of our "must see" attractions with convenient access to all lines. Skyliner trips to and from the airport were easy and convenient. Lots of great eating places in the area.
Review 99:No gym.
Review 100:In room facilities r v.good esp for ladies (ex: facial steamer, hair dryer, hair strengthen) also adaptor, multi chargers, etc. r ready in room. The size of the room is reasonable if u compare to other hotels in Japan. Great location if u travel by metro ticket (I'm using JRpass so it's abit far to walk from the ueno station with all luggages) overall it's great hotel :)
Review 101:The breakfast is not good but it lack of diversity. This room is too small for two people to share.
Review 102:Location.. Near Ueno station. It is convenient to get to the Narita Airport.
Review 103:Price too high.
Review 104:Great location. Easy to go to hotel from Narita airport even who just came to Tokyo at first time. Room size was acceptable for me with 2 adults & 1 kid. For lady, there are hair dryer , straight hair equipment and face ozone in room. There is adapter for phone with multi port. Surprisingly there is electric massage pillow available in room that really help me for long day walking. There is convenience store nearby the hotel that truly convenience for us. Overall love this hotel and will go back again.
Review 105:It was great - breakfast included in the deal would have been excellent.
Review 106:New hotel very close to Ueno train with friendly and helpful staff, quiet rooms, free wi-fi, great bed and pillows and room amenities - everything a traveller might need for their holiday.
Review 107:Hotel Staff speak little english A S$250 a nite for a small room is expensive Refuse our request to change to a two single beds room from a modrate size queen bed room
Review 108:The Hotel location is good Various eateries are easily acessible Walking distance to the nearest Ueno Train Station
Review 109:Nothing
Review 110:Great location, 2 min from/to the subway Ueno Ginza lines, 5 min to the famous local market Specially room for Panda lover. Staff are generally helpful!
Review 111:notin
Review 112:location, near everything.. market, station, restaurants, etc.. great helpful staff.. great amenities especially for women (they hv electronic face steamer for us!)
Review 113:I booked a non-smoking superior double room but the room smells terrible... And they were fully booked so... Can't change room either. Hope it won't happen next time.
Review 114:Actually it's my second time stay in this hotel. The room is cozy and nice. they've prepared special tools for ladies. :)
Review 115:Room is size is ok. Wifi signal is a bit weak on the 7th floor.
Review 116:Very near the Ueno Metro (Entry 1) and JR station. They had a lot activities near the JR Station. Museum of Western Art, Ueno Park, Ueno Zoo. Amenities are available around the hotel area. Food is not a problem. There is a direct link from Ueno to Narita Airport using the Keisei Liner.
Review 117:The lounge area is very small; no area to relax. No free computer to use, other motels we have used have a computer in the foyer for guest use. Front counter staff could have better English.
Review 118:Hotel is well located with good sized rooms. The room is also well appointed and very clean. House keepers were very friendly and efficient.
Review 119:nothing
Review 120:great service, thoughtful room design with space saving features, the room even has an odour removal spray for clothes, and bath salt for a relaxing night. comfortable bed and pillow. well worth the value. highly recommended. best hotel in my 10 days japan trip.
Review 121:the room is tiny
Review 122:the location of the hotel is excellent. The subway station is only 10m away so very good when you are travelling with kids. Although this subway station entrance has no elevator.
Review 123:Few homeless people around but they kept to themselves.
Review 124:Comfortable room. Small but adequate. Good area, close to train and subway and various shops and restaurants. Breakfast at restaurant downstairs is nice.
Review 125:-- Ueno is not the city's main tourist district.
Review 126:-- Convenient access. The Skyline from Narita goes right to Ueno, and then (once you figure out the pedestrian tunnels), you can walk underground almost to the hotel's door. It is easy to get around the city on the trains and subways from Ueno. -- Clean, modern. Good facilities and friendly staff.
Review 127:Payment in full on arrival meaning a second payment at checkout adds more to credit card fees on transactions. Most hotels take a credit card guarantee/authorisation on arrival which is cancelled on full payment at checkout. Better option for customers.
Review 128:Friendly and polite staff Cleanliness Efficient use of limited space Quiet in rooms
Review 129:The hotel didn't supply a cot for the baby but gave us a bed guard instead. However our travel cot would have easily fitted next to the bed.
Review 130:The hotel had everything we needed for our short stay. The location was excellent as it's a short walking distance to ueno central station and eateries, and a park.
