Reviews for Lodge At Leeming Bar
Review 1:One of the two beds put together to make a king size had broken matress, ie it made an awful creaking noise and sank in the middle so needs to be replaced. There didn't appear to be any other guests so it was unfortunate we got that room.
Review 2:Room nice enough for price and some toiletries provided.
Review 3:Nothing really, all good
Review 4:Location, Signage to hotel good. Reception and bar/grill staff all happily carrying out their jobs.Room clean and comfortable. TV Fantastic Very modern with all Freeview facilities plus Remote Control allowed Subtitles!! (I need them)
Review 5:The hotel was very comfortable, clean and suited our needs perfectly. We were visiting family at RAF Leeming and this hotel was perfect for getting some privacy but being close to where we wanted to be. Very central for us. The beds had a nice tog quilt - not too hot!!
Review 6:Pet friendly, easy parking, flexibility regarding meals, location. Only 1 member of staff seen, Chris, but he was exceedingly helpful and cheerful, great asset to the hotel.
Review 7:The deluxe double bed big two singles, me and my partner kept falling down the middle ☺ no big deal though
Review 8:Value for money was outstanding. The lovely lady at the desk and young man in the restaurant were just so helpful and kind.
Review 9:The whole site was tired and needed an uplift. The bedroom and bathroom were adequate for a short stay. The catering staff could have been more welcoming and friendly
Review 10:The lodge was convenient for our purpose - we were on route from Dorset to Scotland but wanting to call at Beamish Museum on route. The reception staff were welcoming on arrival and helpful during our stay.
Review 11:Booking.com had failed to notify the Lodge of our booking. Unsatisfactory for all concerned. However, there was an executive room as chosen so all was well in the end.
Review 12:The pleasant manner of the 'girl friday' who sorted out the room, despite the lack of booking notification, staffed the bar, waited at table and dealt with the payment the next morning. She seemed to be ever present!!
Review 13:Chris seemed to have an awful lot to do by himself. Scruffy exterior. Old fashioned public areas. Dingy route to hotel room. Uncomfortable dining. Poor internet service albeit free. Unable to lock the bedroom door and 2 out of 3 window locks broken. Room 128.
Review 14:Staff member called Chris did very well bearing in mind his work load. Good value food menu and drinks. Food well made and good portions. Big bedroom with huge comfy king size bed and good facilities. Very quiet room and good bathroom facilities. Very clean. Chris is a credit to the hotel, would be a real struggle if busy.
Review 15:Getting very picky but the towel was a bit frayed at the edges but that didn't bother me really.
Review 16:Very much in the same market as Travelodge but is in fact a cut above. Very clean (not one hair from a prior occupant - anywhere). Very good to have bath and shower, hairdryer, trouserpress and ironing faacilities too. TV was the full freeview selection too. Well done all at the Lodge, Leeming Bar.
Review 17:The condition of the external fabric of the property is poor. A strong smell of drains/sewage in the lower staircase (room 24)
Review 18:Location and cost ideally suited our weekend stay in Leeming Fantastic that you accept dogs. No road noise
Review 19:The heating system pretty useless and the breakfast fairly basic due not cater for gluton free people
Review 20:The fact that it is so close to the main trunk road and very easy to get to The room was clean and the bed large and comfortable
Review 21:Breakfast was a bit of a shambles. Despite supposed to start at 8am food didn't appear till 8 20 and only in dribs and drabs. We did however have an excellent meal the night before.
Review 22:Location and easily accessible with restaurants and coffee shop on site.
Review 23:The building itself is a bit dated and could be doing with upgrading.
Review 24:Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was very clean and comfortable with all the necessary facilities. Great to have Costa next door and bar and grill for meals. Also Macdonalds next door.
Review 25:Isolated Bar closed at 2230 on a Saturday Hotel needs a makeover as door handle hanging off and looks bad from the outside.
Review 26:Pet friendly Easy access to motorway
Review 27:Externally looks a little jaded. Due to equipment failure there was a limitedbar and grill menu on the night ofbour stay. The Cooked breakfast was almost cold but quickly resolved by staff bringing newly cooked food when alerted to the non functioning hotplates.
Review 28:Staff so helpful.
Review 29:Our room was 'down stairs', just like going down into the 'basement'. Unpleasant experience, very drab and smelt stale and damp. That was a big put-off before we even got to our room. The dining area was comparable with McDonalds, plastic furniture and easy clean, maybe here they think all travellers must be be messy and childlike. The receptionist was also waitress and barmaid. She was the only staff member we encountered until we retired, about 11.30pm. and there was one young man on duty in the morning at breakfast. These two staff members were friendly and polite. This is probably convenient for truck drivers and businessmen, but not for the ordinary tourist. Wouldn't stay here again.
Review 30:They wasn't anything I disliked
Review 31:All staff were very helpful, room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good with a good choice. Overall a good service and value for money.
Review 32:Our room was 'down stairs'. On entering the stairway, the first thing you notice is the unpleasant stale smell of the old carpet, followed by the decor and the lighting. My friends and I felt that these rooms were worth no more than £30.00 per night as opposed to the £53.10 that we actually paid, but this is no reflection on the staff as were very pleasant and accomodating.
Review 33:Had very warm weather so had to buy a fan as the bathroom heating was permanently on.
Review 34:Staff were excellent even with my dog in tow and couldn't do enough to help.
Review 35:First impression was not good but once inside things got much better. A friendly staff and a good room, well appointed with good facilities. A good en-route-one-night-stay.
Review 36:Very jaded. Wallpaper peeling around the windows. Scruffy outside. Wanted a room for 3, travelling with my husband and teenage daughter, but there wasn't one available so had to book 2 rooms. Our room then had a double and a single! Feel ripped off!
Review 37:Breakfast was late being set up.
Review 38:Just off the A1(M) and close to where I wanted to be (which was Leeming Bar). Room was surprisingly quieter than I expected.
Review 39:when we arrived it was clear one of the satff was new and being shown how to book people in, which he was very quick at picking up as far as we could see. Drawback was, next morning he was the only member of staff doing breakfast duty. He was doing a brilliant job, running around as fast as he could and trying very hard to get things ready. I felt he should have had some support though, breakfast was 8am-10 am but the 1st batch of cooked food didnt come out till 8.25 am. Some guests who seemed to be workmen had to leave before the hot stuff came out. The sausages were the same colour as when they come out of the packet and we were concerned as to whether they were cooked properly so had yogurt, cereal and toast, which were all very nice. I would like to emphasise this is not a criticism of the young man trying his best, but more a reflection that he needed some help. I think this may have been a one off experience and would not put us off going back again
Review 40:Staff friendly bedroom was wonderful, a bed so large we lost each other in it (queen size at least) bath and shower everything was clean and in good decorative order we enjoyed our single night there
Review 41:Every floor creaked. Very dated. Unmanned reception with sign to indicate where one might find staff. Phone calls to reception were diverted to our room both nights we stayed so a disturbed sleep. Manager gave us free breakfast as compensation.
Review 42:Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Manager was excellent. Obviously experienced.
Review 43:Unkempt in places, ageing, threadbare carpets and a smell of carpet damp in the corridors.
Review 44:Great location for the wedding we were attending in Bedale. Would also have been a good location for exploring the dales.
Review 45:We have stayed there before and had a good stay. The toilet door did not close properly. We booked the place for a bed and breakfast and when it came to breakfast was informed that we had not booked, s little disappointing.
Review 46:The extra pillows was there as ordered
Review 47:The room facilities were sub standard, water stains on ceiling, bathroom door would not close (handle hanging off and latch jammed in), TV could only be switched on/off at the socket. The website implied it was bed & breakfast but the small print at the bottom of the booking confirmation stated room only no meals included, obviously we had not read the small print and were not informed until breakfast time. One member of our group ordered tea and toast and was charged £5.00. It was very noisy with people stomping about most of the night. I will not use this hotel again and would not recommend it to anybody else.
Review 48:The location.
Review 49:When we arrived they didn't even know we had booked so was waiting around as they said they were full up. Eventually we were given a room in what seemed like the basement. The room smelled like someone had been smoking in it the mates had springs coming through and there were cigarette burns in the net curtains. The wifi didn't work in the rooms either.
Review 50:It was the only one available when all other hotels were full
Review 51:Smelly corridors, tired décor, youngsters loitering in Macdonalds car park to the rear of the hotel, young lad who checked us in his tie was all stained and dirty, spider in room, breakfast £10 extra, shower was shockingly poor. Exterior of building dilapidated and looks like it is about to fall down.
Review 52:Rooms were clean and well equipped, and appointed to a budget hotel standard. Thankfully the smell from the corridors did not seep into the rooms. Location was handy.
Review 53:The room was sold to me with a king size bed, but it was 2 beds pushed together, very scruffy looking hotel, smells inside, and when I told staff they didn't have a clue how to deal with my complaint, got rooms wrong , still waiting for a call from management. Worst hotel I've ever stayed in.
Review 54:The shower was hot and powerful
Review 55:Booked 2 x rooms and asked for one with disabled access, whilst it wasin the basement accessible from the car park there was no lift to therestaurant or bar areas. Woken twice by fire alarm, car park used bylocals as a race track, food and service in the restaurant terrible, weonly ate part of the starter and cancelled the rest of the meal it wasso bad. It is old, tired and stinks of sweaty socks and body odour !!
Review 56:Staff were very helpful
Review 57:This place seems to have changed hands since we stayed a long time ago and we had to change rooms because a smoker had used our allocated room. The heating was at full blast and not adjustable. 24 hour Macdonalds behind the hotel rooms was noisy and anti-social so we will not stay again.
Review 58:Convenient location for our itinerary.
Review 59:Guests smoking in their rooms - corridor stank of cigarette smoke. Fire alarms repeatedly went of (3.20am, 6.05am and 6.25am, then again at 6.45am the next morning). Hair dryer in room didn't work. Dirty toilet brush left behind the toilet. Never anybody at reception, had to go looking for somebody in Costa if we needed to speak to anybody. Did complain and got 30% refund but won't be staying there again.
Review 60:The staff were friendly and did their best to rectify the problems I raised with the stay.
Review 61:WiFi isnt great! Was told i could receive it in my room but it did not connect until i was ready to go asleep.
Review 62:It has everything you need. I had a business trip from high wycombe to county durham and this was an ideal stop-off location, cheap and does the job. Workable freeview tv, iron board, kettle, bed, bathroom and shower.. Perfect for one night stay.
Review 63:The building was a bit shabby but generally good value.
Review 64:Clean linen. Friendly staff. Good shower. Easy access for travellers going North or South on A1. Spacious rooms for twin and double with generous supply of tea/coffee in both of them. Good light in the rooms
Review 65:On arrival the room was cold. Towel heater not working bathroom always cold. On tea and coffee tray tea bags unwrapped poor selection.
Review 66:Good size room and bed.
Review 67:This poor hotel has been abandoned by the world when the A1(M) was built - leaving the hotel off the beaten track. It was probably built in the 1970's and it shows - not a beautiful building with bare concrete in places and the back of the hotel looks very sad leading to the car park.
Review 68:The bedroom and the bathroom were excellent. There appeared to be only one other couple staying in the hotel at the time - on a Saturday night. The hotel was quiet. We paid £101 for a night's stay, dinner for two with one drink each, and breakfast. This was good value for money. Everyone was very friendly.
Review 69:After reading the reviews before we stayed at the lodge we were worried because they were so bad our advice to people feeling the same ignore them we had a pleasant stay with no problems
Review 70:everything ok but room furniture could do with an upgrade
Review 71:Staff particularly receptionist/bar staff, this young lady helped everyone with any questions/ booked us in, served us drinks, then in the morning was there to oversee excellent full English breakfast, don't know her name but she's a diamond.
Review 72:Musty smell in the room, extractor fan in bathroom not working, wardrobe door had been re-hung and wouldn't shut, decor was tired looking and rather grubby.
Review 73:Not a lot, but receptionist was helpful As we were checking out.
Review 74:Advertising said room was at 83 per cent discount , £69 down from £399. Knew this was just a gimmick but nice picture and we expected something better than a very tacky, past it service station motel. It said value deal but there was no breakfast included, and this fact was hidden away under an information button.
Review 75:Only criticism would be a softer pillow but I don't regard that a deal breaker!
Review 76:I found it absolutely fine with very helpful and friendly staff. The rooms my friend and I had were clean and comfortable. I have stayed here before and would be happy to stay here again.
Review 77:The rear of the Lodge is very untidy and put me off when I arrived. The back entrance from Car park had old dirty rug and gave bad impression to Lodge as cleanliness in all other areas was good.
Review 78:Staff were very good, meals were good quality, Room was comfortable and well equipped. Excellent value for money
Review 79:Outside looks run down and shabby. Within is a mixture of dated and contemporary fittings and furniture.
Review 80:Kind, friendly staff. Very convenient location.
Review 81:Cold water tap barely ran, water only treacled out of tap meaning filling kettle provided took ages. Shower was very much the same, very slow and not enjoyable. Breakfast looked like reheated from the week before, bland and tasteless. Pillows were disastrous, entirely flat meaning neither of us had a sleep the entire night.
Review 82:WiFi. Pet friendly. Easily accessible. Friendly receptionist very attentive.
Review 83:Food not very good and pasrticularly the Breakfast which was unappetising, greasy, no coffee at 7 a.m. etc
Review 84:Reception friendly, location excellent, accommodation good
Review 85:Lack of security in bedroom door left me feeling vulnerable with most other residents being male drivers. Decor in corridors and bathroom very poor with smears if dirt and ancient carpets have a poor impression. Certainly wdnt recommend to anyone.
Review 86:Very friendly and welcoming staff.
Review 87:During the night ....I needed to get some medicine/ tablets from my car in the car park....I was given a front door key to the hotel reception door but was unable to open the door....It made me very anxious and went looking for a alternative exit ( not wanting to use the fire door ). Guests should be told that they cannot use front door to leave hotel during the night ,only to enter hotel after reception hours . enjoyed the rest of my 2 night stay....
Review 88:The building outside and the corridors inside need some attention
Review 89:Staff were very good and did all they could do to make our stay as enjoyable as possible
Review 90:Quite difficult to find-partly due to roadworks and being in a service area. Unattractive exterior and rather dated.
Review 91:Good standard breakfast served in attractively decorated dining room with good atmosphere. Comfortable room with everything we needed. Charming lady greeted us on reception.
Review 92:the rooms and decor are a bit tired, a little on the snug side. I think with a bit of money spent on it the difference will be enormous
Review 93:the staff although under a lot of pressure did their best to make us very welcome and help wherever they could We were told that the management has just changed so will be interesting to see what they do, hopefully they will be pleased to have such hard working staff.
Review 94:After arrival at about 8pm we went to the bar and asked for a sandwich. All they could offer was a bacon sandwich which I did not want. They had no crisps and we had no biscuits in our room. I asked for biscuits and after some wait was given one pack of two which we had to share. I am diabetic and have to take a tablet with food. This was not acceptable as there was supposed to be room service.
Review 95:NOISY Bar Saturday night. Poor cold water flow in basin. Direction signage poor. NOISY lorry park early morning.
Review 96:Only 2 floors accommodation. Buffet Breakfast. Shop location.
Review 97:Bit dated and tired, but clean and tidy.
Review 98:Right on the A1M but no noise from the road. Good basic food at very good prices. Very friendly staff and helpful, they made the place.
Review 99:Since our last visit at xmas 2012 the hotel seems to be in need of some TLC. Loose bed heads in room33 lifting formica on the window sill. Perhaps its to do with the run down by the previous owners prior to the takeover by MOTO. I trust that the character of the hotel will not be changed by MOTO and that it will not become as feature less as the other motor way hotels
Review 100:Friendly staff ,good food ,and good beer
Review 101:No fans in rooms was really hot at night and uncomfortable. Had to have the early Breakfast in Transport cafe due to setting off early, food nowhere near as good as Hotel Breakfast menu, and grumpy old man serving.
Review 102:Good food in Restaurant and Bar,good beer. Rooms good. And so nice to find places that take dogs also. Staff very helpful.
Review 103:Could do with a refurb, very tired (except the bathroom which was very fresh). Bed was hard as a board. The weather was extremely hot, aircon would have been very useful. No fridge in the room to chill drinks. Not enough vegetarian choice for breakfast - eggs eggs more eggs and Value range beans was it.
Review 104:Location was perfect, bathroom was nice. Dinner food was OK. For price it was just OK but on reflection I should have paid a bit more for a bit more comfort.
Review 105:The fact that the Lodge had no note of my booking. The carpet in bathroom smelt strongly of urine. The restaurant furniture was canteen quality. The exterior and interior of building was dilapidated and run down.
Review 106:The location proximity to A1
Review 107:If you accept that the Lodge is just off the motorway and is also a service area with a McDonalds at the rear then it is absolutely fine for the money. Notwithstanding my positive comments the Lodge could do with a lick of paint as it is tired looking which spoils the overall first impression particularly when the staff so obviously try hard.
Review 108:The welcome was warm and the room was clean with spotless bed linen on a comfortable bed and the bathroom and towels were spotless. There were facilities within the room that other places with higher price tags don't provide or at extra cost, eg trouser press, hairdryer and tea making facilities. The restaurant was fine, with reasonable food and overall the Lodge provides good value for money.
Review 109:Corridors, surrounding, looking very run down and not clean. Passage towards to residence car park was full of litter and smells very bad (As if people have urinated along the path way). Place looks very run down over all (out side and inside of the room).
Review 110:None
Review 111:appearance of the building from the car park with no obvious entrance into the hotel. inadequate adjacent parking. telephone in no 3 not working, a failed light bulb in the bathroom and a very badly stained toilet.
Review 112:helpful staff at reception and in the bar and dining room
Review 113:The breakfast was cold and dry. The man who seemed to be in charge was literally running around the dining room throwing table napkins and cutlery on tables in a panic. It made us feel very uncomfortable when we should have been enjoying a relaxed start to our day. He needs to chill or get more staff.
Review 114:The location was ideal for us and the rooms were clean and comfortable with plenty of space to park
Review 115:The Lodge looks quite shabby from the outside (unlike the photo shown on the advert.), and the rooms, at least the one in which we stayed, are ready for re-furbishing.
Review 116:Th friendliness of the staff. The Restaurant was very chic (unlike the rest of the Lodge) and the food was good - well prepared and served. It was a good central place for touring the Dales.
Review 117:First room they gave us wasn't made up. Thought someone was still sleeping in it when we went in!!!! Bar and restaurant was closed at 10.00pm. Not good after a 3 hour drive. If you don't like McDonald's - forget food or a drink. Smelt a bit 'fousty' in corridor. Bathroom - was small. Had to front in and reverse back out!!!!!
Review 118:Bed was comfortable. Breakfast good. Staff good. Room was good.
Review 119:The doors on the rooms didn't shut tightly so you could hear a lot of noise in the corridor. The place needs updating
Review 120:The food was excellent value for money.
Review 121:Rooms did not smell fresh and clean
Review 122:Excellent if travelling with a dog and close to A1
Review 123:wifi didn't at all
Review 124:helpful staff
Review 125:a bit noisey fire alarm off twice in the early hours
Review 126:nice accomodation
Review 127:en suite very small over generous with the heating levels
Review 128:Staff very helpful
Review 129:In much need refurbishment, everything outdated
Review 130:Clean
Review 131:Proximity to A1
Review 132:Very tired, room smelt of smoke and just needs some money spent on it. They're charging medium money for bottom end product
Review 133:I left
Review 134:very nice dining room but window shelf was very dusty!
Review 135:Handy location with facilities. pleasant staff.
Review 136:Not enough plug sockets
Review 137:Good basic facilities for an overnight or short stay Staff friendly and helpful
The Fine Print
All rooms are non smoking.
