Reviews for Madar Café Restaurant zum Fürsten

Review 1:Breakfast options for vegetarians weren't great, and soft-boiled egg came out hard-boiled. Our experience of the restaurant at dinner was also poor in terms of food quality.

Review 2:The room was clean, lovely quaint furniture, and newly renovated toilet was a plus. Staff was also friendly and very accommodating, allowing us to check-in early rather than lug our luggage around.

Review 3:great location, short walk to Melk Abbey and the main street, shops, wonderful Xmas market. Beautiful view from room street. Very nice breakfast served in cosy restaurant.

Review 4:The beds had seen better days. Mattress was a bit lumpy.

Review 5:Unbeatable location, right under the walls of Melk Abbey. Charming old guest house above a cafe.

Review 6:No elevator. Awkward entrance to rooms.

Review 7:Great central location at foot of Melk Abbéy. Wonderful restaurant, serving delicious breakfast (included). Comfortable bed in clean, charming room.

Review 8:Free parking but real challenge, the pass is very narrow. Only one lady for the checkin and cafe restaurant, she is very busy you must wait.

Review 9:In the central of the town, very nice breakfast, the lady is very kind.

Review 10:Somewhat pricey for the overall quality of the room and breakfast. Shower was on a flexible hose attached on the wall with a fixture that did not hold the head in a good position.

Review 11:Very good location right in the village. Breakfast was ample and had a good variety of foods. Restaurant on premises so there was always someone around.

Review 12:Wouldn't recommend Room 3 as a previous client had, unless you're a single person as the bathroom is very tight. The single window offers access to the roof which raises concern about security when the window is open. We noted another room was much brighter and larger. Checkin is with the restaurant staff who are very busy serving customers.

Review 13:Excellent location, not far from public transportation.

Review 14:Uniqueness, breakfast was good, located in very center of town with parking. The parking was so tight,a very kind business man offered to back our car out and we accepted.

Review 15:The location was in the center of town, just at the base of Melk Abbey. The trip to the Abbey was an easy walk. The rooms were small but seemed to have been just renovated. It was a great stop on our trip.

Review 16:Short-staffed as one person dealing with restaurant and rooms, so quite impersonal. Walls of rooms too thin !! Bike storage offered was a rack outside, so not that safe.

Review 17:A good location in the town which is very pretty.

Review 18:I loved it all. Would just say that the room wasn't large but that didn't matter to us. I saw another room which was pretty gigantic, so looks like they have a variety of rooms. Also would have liked to see more fruit at breakfast but breakfast was good, they gave us eggs and cappuccino as well as cheese and ham.

Review 19:It was so great we decided to spend two nights here. We had room num 4. It was spotless and very comfy. Loved that the window could be opened wide like a real window to get fresh air, with those European shutters on it, and the view includes a glimpse of the melk abbey. The bathroom was luxurious with a great shower.

Review 20:Check in person was busy waiting on tables and had little time for us. Uncomfortable bed and small room. Stairs.

Review 21:Excellent location in central Melk. Large bathroom. Easy parking

Review 22:Picturesque location with easy access . Breakfast buffet was excellent. There is free parking just outside the pedestrian only zone. The parking lot associated with hotel is very small and has a VERY narrow access lane.

Review 23:It was very hot while we were there and with no fan or air con it wasn't very comfortable at night.

Review 24:The location!!! Right in the heart of gorgeous Melk!!

Review 25:Advertise parking but it's a real challenge - narrow driveway and only 3 tight parking spots. WiFi was challenging.

Review 26:Great location right in the center of town.

Review 27:Beds a bit to firm. High temperature during our stay so the room got a bit warm during the night. No aircondition. For information: the hotel do not accept credit card

Review 28:Decent hotel to a good price. Friendly staff and ok breakfast. Great location. We had a nice stay.

Review 29:the food wasn't over the top but i'd stay here again in a second.

Review 30:i loved my little room - simple, clean and with a great bathroom. the location is ridiculously good.

Review 31:nothing to be mentioned!

Review 32:Very nice place , the hotel is in an old and beautifull building ,cozy room ; location is very close to the Melk Abbey ;very friendly staff !

Review 33:As it is right in the middle of the town, like many other towns in Europe, it is quite difficult to drive our car to get there. We had to drive through fairly narrow roads to get there, and upon arriving, we found that the parking lot of the hotel was full already, so we had to park somewhere else. We were given a room on the top floor, very tiring to drag our luggages up. Breakfast food was really average.

Review 34:Staff was friendly. She was helpful and patient to show me where we should park our car despite there were many customers in the hotel restaurant that she had to serve. Could see the abbey from our room. Very good location in terms of sightseeing.

Review 35:Private parking offered but unsuitable for larger cars.

Review 36:comfortable spacious room, with modern bathroom. Friendly attentive staff, excellent breakfast, good menu for evening meals.

Review 37:Nothing

Review 38:Hotel is an old building at the centre of the old Town just below the Melk Abbey. Hotel has a popular restaurant on the ground floor that makes it a bit noisy at times. Hotel staff are very helpful. Hotel has a small parking area but approach is very narrow.

Review 39:Not much just the rain for a few hours

Review 40:Room modern and clean Lovely walk in shower Up stairs in old part of building Cobbled streets so rough on suitcase wheels Filled in legal details as we were signing out!

Review 41:The mattress was quite soft and the bed very squeaky (to the point it would possibly stop you getting to sleep)

Review 42:Great location on the town square in centre of historic part of Melk. Minutes from the monastery and near many cafes, restaurants. Has place to secure bikes and breakfast was good.

Review 43:a little noisy on the evening, you can hear people talking and laughing in the outside; there is no air-cooling system(or maybe it doesn't work at the time we stay); no freezer

Review 44:a good location that you can see the people, the downtown of Melk just opening the windows. the staff are helpful and very nice. Food is good and not expensive. the room is clean.

Review 45:The hotel is in an excellent location with an easy walk to Melk Abbey. We had a front room which was huge, there was a little noise from the street at night but it didn't last long. Breakfast was excellent, the staff all very nice, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Review 46:Everything is good, clean, spacious room and bathroom, clean, good stable hit water, good BF. Private parking is only 3 spaces so be sure come in early.

Review 47:Located in a perfect spot and suitable for most visitor, we would still consider giving it another try. Room provided was the smallest, No tea making facilities in room no fridge glasses, pillows too soft and thin walls between rooms, testing parking facilities but very helpful locals, provided entertainment

Review 48:Staff friendly and helpful handling all questions efficiently.

Review 49:none

Review 50:This is in a great location right on the main street. We loved the character of the house and the cosy popular cafe beneath. Also enjoyed being able to look up at the abbey from the bedroom window. Bike parking at rear.

Review 51:No hair drier, poor variety for the breakfast

Review 52:Location, car park on premises, clean and quiet even though at the city centre, excellent coffee, friendly staff

Review 53:It doesn't feel like a hotel, since there's no reception, only rooms and stairs. Our room was unfortunately smelling a little bit of cigarette.

Review 54:The hotel is very well located, but there's no reception or staff. You need to enter in the bar, talk to the waiter and he'll give you the keys to your room.

Review 55:Make sure you arrive earlier as a late checkin could be problematic.

Review 56:The location was really excellent as the pension was only a short distance from the rail station and also only a short walk to the town's major tourist attraction. The breakfast was very good and the room I had was very comfortable.

Review 57:No shower curtain in single room's bathroom (tub with shower), dated decor in bathroom. Service adequate but not friendly.

Review 58:Location in center of town, short walk to abbey, bathroom good in double room. (I rented a single and a double. )

Review 59:Bathroom was a modern fitout; the bedroom area was kept warm with a panel heater, however no heating in bathroom, a heated towel rail would help with comfort in winter.

Review 60:Good linens, ample towels. Wardrobes and bedside cabinets decorated with traditional hand painted panels.

Review 61:Wifi was patchy, extra pillows were lacking, and the room was a bit cold

Review 62:Great location, so close to the Melk Abby. In the heart of the Danube Valley. Nice rooms and clean.

Review 63:The location is perfect- right in the middle of the town. Typical Austrian Gasthaus- friendly staff, good food. Breakfast plentiful and sufficient. En cart restaurant with typical Austrian meals- from Wiener schnitzel to goulash, all tasteful and abundant. The place roasts it's own coffee and it is great, so are the cakes. Someone mentioned the beer is great, but isn't it in all of ? There is free parking on premise. Finally, I even got a bottle of wine to take away. In all, a perfect weekend.

Review 64:Breakfast included in room price and is ready for guest at 07:00 am, 30 min faster than other other accomodations in others countries of my trip. Menus for dinner are limited, but reasonable price. Afternoon and morning staff could understood and spoke English

Review 65:The bed in my case was very small and put close to the wall. Turning around mrant falling out. Bathroom for very short people.

Review 66:Very kind staff, beautiful venue in old centre, great breakfast

Review 67:They don't accept card payments. however, it wasn't a problem as there is a bank with a cash machine close by.

Review 68:Nice family run hotel in a good location in the pretty town of Melk, ideal for visiting the monastery and in close proximity for trips on the Danube. Hotel room and facilities all adequate and good value, also has a restaurant serving typical local Austrian meals.

Review 69:It was a little difficult to find the hotel (there is another Madar Cafe nearby) and the street it is on is normally restricted for vehicle traffic. The parking area of the hotel is extremely small and difficult to get into and out of.

Review 70:The staff were excellent and very helpful. Breakfast was good and the dinner we ordered was very good as well.

Review 71:Terribly disappointing coffee in the downstairs cafe, especially poor for a place that advertises itself as a coffee roastery. Small pokey bathroom with 1970s fittings. Steep narrow stairs to get to all the rooms, and no staff around to help lift luggage - would not be at all suitable if I had been travelling with my elderly parents or young children. Very basic room with no view.. maybe ask for a room looking out to the main square if you book to stay here.

Review 72:Great central location Okay breakfast

Review 73:No lift. It's very tired to take luggage from the ground floor. From hotel to ferry station, there is 15 mins walk.

Review 74:Our room is on the top and is very spacious and comfortable. From the window, you can see the abby. Downstairs is the resturant and the food is delicous. The breadfast is good.

Review 75:Attitude of staff was very bad, the rooms were uncomfortable, no soap, we were awakened at 6 am by delivery trucks and the advertised Internet did not exist.

Review 76:The location

Review 77:Lovely place to stay. Couldn't be better. Beds and rooms beautiful. Only the noise from the street came straight up. We like to sleep with windows open. If they were shut I'm sure it would have made a difference .. Festival on while we were there. It was great.

Review 78:great location; fun, typical Austrian country experience; don't have silly expectations, just enjoy! You will only spend one night in Melk at maximum in any case.

Review 79:Did not like check in area , noisy, and sparse breaakfast buffet on tiny table .

Review 80:Although the building and check in was a bit confusing we found our room very comfortable and suprisingly spacious. Good location to Danube boat station and train . Parking too tight we parked blocks away at train station up the hill. Had no luggage so no problem . Buffet breakfast was sparse but staff very pleasant . Bring earplugs to sleep rooms over cafe a bit noisy but we had windows open . A good experience overall for 88euros for night inc brkfst .

Review 81:Nothing!

Review 82:Very nice cafe, below the huge Melk Abbey. Our room was very comfortable and excellent value for money. Melk's a beautiful little town. The breakfast coffee was very very nice. We would definitely recommend the Madar Cafe and Melk.

Review 83:Poor at the parking place, they have only 4 parking places there. But you have public parking places nearby, so it's not so bad.

Review 84:Excellent location, great room, nice personal. If you find a free parking place then it's perfect.

Review 85:there is a cafe downstairs opening until midnight which makes an earlier sleep or rest almost impossible as there are constant talks, laughter until it is closed.

Review 86:No complaints.

Review 87:I liked the location very much. It is right in the middle of everything. I enjoyed all of the people who worked there. They were all so nice. The food was good and authentic. It was the perfect place for our visit.

Review 88:No especially nice restaurants for a birthday meal. Lots of building works going on in town and at the bottom of the Stift. Very quiet at night...people tend to visit during the day but stay elsewhere.

Review 89:Lovely little town and very quaint. It was amazing to see the Stift right above the Cafe Madar.

Review 90:Breakfast minimal.beds weren't great. Creaky old floor and if your tall you will bang your head a few times.restaurant just fair

Review 92:No elevator for visitors with big luggage.

Review 93:Friendly staff and cozy environment.

Review 101:No reception. The staffs at Cafe keep the key. They are very busy.

Review 102:It is a good choice on budget stay. The cake is delicious.

Review 103:Nice hotel near famous Melk abbey.

Review 104:had a little trouble finding the place, especially with all the pedestrian zones, etc.

Review 105:great location, friendly staff, good restaurant

Review 106:Great location. Clean & tidy. Quaint town. Parking access a little tight, best for small vehicles. Excellent value.

Review 107:No fridge or coffee pot

Review 108:Quaint Close to abby

Review 109:bed is small

Review 110:location,

Review 111:warm and cozy in the heart of a beautiful village

Review 112:Best restaurant in Melk is part of this inn. Inn is right in the middle of town close to everything.

Review 113:The location was great. Secure bike storage.

Review 114:The room and bath room were too small and not comfortable.

Review 115:The view of the room

Review 116:Great location, beautiful room, helpful staff
