Reviews for Royal Goat Hotel
Review 1:Paper thin walls, tired rooms, cheap sausage and Phil Collins at breakfast, bar lacks any ambience (pub down the road though is great)
Review 2:Great location, interesting building, passable cooked breakfast, friendly staff
Review 3:Just a little on the cool side in the room. Needed that extra bit of heat.
Review 4:I love the location. I like older type hotels. staff were very helpful. Hotel has a welcoming feel.
Review 5:TV signal in the room was disrupted a lot due to wind
Review 6:Very friendly and helpful staff, great location if you plan on walking or climbing... stones throw from Snowdon car park. Great value for money, fantastic home cooked food available.
Review 7:The en-suite facilities were a bit tired, and the bedroom needed more comfortable seats and better lighting. The bar is in need of refurbishment.
Review 8:Great location, free parking and a good restaurant providing fantastic food with great staff. The bed was comfortabe and the room a decent size.
Review 9:We had only a trickle of hot water in the morning so no shower or bath for us!
Review 10:The staff were really helpful and attentive. Great evening meal. Hotel had a lovely ambiance. Room was great.
Review 11:If I'm being really picky there was no milk in the room with the tea and coffee but I don't mind black coffee so it wasn't really a issue.
Review 12:Nice hotel, the staff were fantastic and the food was excellent.
Review 13:After our journey taking longer than planned due to traffic and looking forward to getting into our beds, upon walking into out room and only finding one double bed and no staff around to resolve the problem, me and my two boys had to share a double bed between as you can imagine non of us had the best nights sleep, then in the morning when paying the hotel wanted to charge me more money!!!!! Can someone please explain what happened, the hotel are blaming booking.com???
Review 14:I was happy with the hotel in general
Review 15:The window couldn't be opened.
Review 16:The location of the hotel is excellent with free parking and a short walk from the village centre. The room was clean and had lovely views. The beds were very comfortable and we slept well. Plenty of hot water and the bath was a good size. The room was cleaned every day to a high standard. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 17:In need of a refurbishment.
Review 18:Excellent location and breakfasts, staff helpful in sorting out little issues and pretty good value compared with others in the area.
Review 19:The breakfast charges weren't explained clearly enough. It wasn't very good value for money, the fruit was tinned and the cereal was poor quality.
Review 20:The comfy bed.
Review 21:Warm, friendly welcome to a lovely hotel. Staff couldn't do enough to help at all times. Food at the hotel was excellent...obviously a very accomplished chef! Would recommend this hotel and will definitely return. The village is absolutely beautiful!
Review 22:Wifi downstairs in the bar areas is good but intermittent at best in thebedrooms. My one real complaint would be the shower. The shower head wasfar too low for my girlfriend and she is only 5ft 7". At 6ft Ibasically had to squat to wash my hair. It also took a long timefor theshower to warm up.
Review 23:While others have said it is dated, I don't believe that is trulyaccurate across the entire hotel. The large, multiple downstairs bar anddining areas are delibrratley decorated with grandfather clocks andolder style seating which gives it a nice and charming feel throughout.Girlfriend really enjoyed the bath not having one at home these days.Overall a nice hotel in a good location. 25Mins to Zip line Titan andsimilar distance to Llanberis to start climbing Snowdon.
Review 24:We weren't told when we checked in about the £7 per night charge for having our small dog with us - she didn't create any cost for the hotel, indeed if we hadn't been able to take her we would have stayed somewhere else, so the charge is just grasping. The bar prices for non-alcoholic drinks are ridiculous - £2.75 for a peppermint tea bag and a cup of hot water is just a rip-off. The Wi-Fi is only available in public areas and even then it is very unreliable and intermittent. Our mattress was very soft and sagged towards the edge such that I actually fell out of bed on our first night. The bath tap didn't work. We reported it and it was fixed next day but then it failed again.
Review 25:The Full Welsh Breakfast is very good (as it should be for £8.95 per head) as is the food at dinner. The hotel is within a short walk of the Welsh Highland Railway station, bus stops and local attractions. Some of the staff are very good and helpful.
Review 26:The hotel is tired and in need of a major revamp. The bathroom in my room was really grotty, the shower curtain was mouldy and it just felt generally dirty. The bed had a huge dip in the middle which made it most uncomfortable. I booked a room for myself and my 8 month old son, on arrival there was no travel cot in the room, I asked at reception and apparently they only had one cot and it was already being used, they also didn't have any highchairs.
Review 27:Beddgelert is beautiful.
Review 28:Damp unclean bathroom, toilet overflowing, uncleanliness of bathroom eg shower, toilet, sink and malodours in bathroom and bedroom.
Review 29:Friendly staff, location ease of checking in.
Review 30:would not return, the room was below average, although I have to say the bathroom was a pleasant surprise. the bed was hard and passed it sell and use by date. the décor was dated and too much furniture of the pine variety. the view was a flat roof with broken guttering teeming water hours after it stopped raining rotting doors and a rotting paint shed, yes... on the roof.
Review 31:the dinner was nice, although not exactly what we ordered. . the public rooms are better and nicely decorated.
Review 32:Needs a bit of talc. A lick of paint, change of doors to rooms and new carpets could really make a difference.
Review 33:Location great. Bed comfortable, reasonable size room
Review 34:The Hotel has a faded splendour, but needs a lot of attention. The staff are charming and helpful, the food is of an acceptable standard justifying neither complaint or compliment.
Review 35:I had a cheap mattress. I could feel the springs but I still slept well. Must be the outdoor air and exercise.
Review 36:I liked the breakfasts and the location and the friendliness.
Review 37:Hotel has both parking and a lift which is essential when travelling with an older family member. Staff are very friendly and the food is good. Well situated for visiting the Snowdonia national park
Review 38:Only thing I'd prefer is wifi in the room rather than just at the bar.
Review 39:Very nice old hotel with accommodating staff. Breakfast was good, room had character, i felt great value fo money.
Review 40:Some staff had difficulty understanding drink and food orders because of language barriers. Very limited Alcohol options in Bar.
Review 41:Location superb. Room very nice. Building itself very nice and old styled.
Review 42:Nothing.
Review 43:Everything. The staff were great. The owner Vicky made sure our stay and wedding went without a problem. Can't thank them enough. The chef also prepared and served delicious food not only for our wedding but every meal we had there. Thank-you.
Review 44:We didn't have a bad experience but for the price breakfast should be included.
Review 45:great location, clean and tidy and pleasant staff. Would visit again .
Review 46:There was a smell coming from the bathroom and the taps for the bath didn't work, I had to fill it using the shower
Review 47:Great location, friendly and helpful staff, cute and cosy room
Review 48:Power went off when bedroom light switched on around 9.30pm. Reported it and it was probably fixed fairly quickly (blown fuse?) but nobody came to tell us!
Review 49:Peaceful location. Good breakfast. Plenty of parking.
Review 50:I could have done with a sheet. The bed was rather hard and so I slepton the duvet to soften the bed and under the blanket. A sheet wouldhave helped.
Review 51:Particularly good was the warmth throughout the hotel during my visit. The room was good and welcoming, as was the hotel in general. (ThatWelsh black beer for example!!)
Review 52:wifi limited to lounge and slow connection (probably due to location rather than hotel fault)
Review 53:location, quiet large rooms, friendly staff, professional and attentive
Review 54:Had to pay extra for child although site said family room. Was given an unsuitable room but then changed to an excellent family room enjoyed our stay.
Review 55:Breakfast excellent although paid extra on arrival. Even thou site said b and b.comfy beds clean rooms.
Review 56:Bed uncomfortable, raised with manager offered to take drinks bill off which came to £6.00 insult!. I asked for the manager to get the owner to call me as I was not satisfied with uncomfortable bed, spring felt it was coming through bed and gave me a bad back. The manager said that I had to phone them to complain, again poor service, where was the customer service! I paid £150.00 for 2 nights really poor. Hotel needs a refurbishment. Lacked atmosphere, did not eat in hotel, ate at another hotel near by great food.
Review 57:Location good
Review 58:Double bed a little narrow, and only wi fi downstairs, signal strength marginal.
Review 59:Great change from the usual drab corporate hotels, charming old hotel, full of character. Great staff, and very good food, a lot of it from local produce. Would definitely stay again.
Review 60:There was nothing to not like. All good.
Review 61:The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was large and spacious. Very impressed with every aspect of the hotel. Definitely go back.
Review 62:No Wi-Fi in room, only in downstairs reception. Shower was appauling, imagine a watering-can with a slug blocking the exit - meagre trickling. Very low water pressure.
Review 63:Food was good. Both the breakfast, and the restaurant for the evening meal. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 64:Noise from bar in evening and on landing outside rooms but understandable in old building
Review 65:Staff very friendly, comfortable bed, and nice food...would recommend as stay here
Review 66:Bed was a little hard for my liking, but I'm sure fine for most . Didn't eat in hotel as food was cheaper and served until later elsewhere
Review 67:Overall the hotel was fine for the price. Bed was a little hard for my liking, but I'm sure fine for most . Didn't eat in hotel as food was cheaper and served until later elsewhere.
Review 68:The bed was a problem! Seems like a real shame considering how good everything else was. The bed was firm enough but the surface texture was like sleeping on a chain-link fence.
Review 69:The food was excellent and staff were friendly and helpful. The reception rooms were grand and inviting. Right in the middle of beautiful Snowdonia!
Review 70:Our room was just as cold as it was outside and quite small, not wot u expect when u want to warm up after being outside. Food was a bit over priced for the standard, had steak which was very very chewy, pepper sauce which was more like mushroom liquid but chips were nice. Asked for a cappuccino and was given a normal coffee. Half way through our meal a waiter came over and started clearing the spare cutlery on our table, big put off! Would not go there again
Review 71:Looked quite nice from the outside, staff were friendly
Review 72:I drive up 8 or 9 times a year from Birmingham to work as a volunteer on the Welsh Highland Railway. The Royal Goat may be an occasional treat but is just a little too expensive to use all the time.
Review 73:I liked the peace and comfort and - and, of course, the unequalled surrounding scenery. I slept better than I have slept for a long while. Nice breakfast, too. I have always been interested in the Royal Goat's history and am glad to have finally stayed at least one night.
Review 74:Mid week in Winter season you might go short of food if you arrive after 8.00, there is another family run hotel just down the hill before the bridge that will help out with an evening meal if you arrive not long after, reccommended
Review 75:Location
Review 76:The whole place looks in serious need of a face lift and the impression is that it's been ignored for years. Maybe there isn't the trade to justify it. It looks as thought it's stuck in the seventies/eighties decorwise and would feel a whole lot better if redecorated. The maid service was poor - towels were not tidied and bed not fully remade.
Review 77:The staff were friendly and welcoming The breakfast was very good For the price, it was very good value
Review 78:The sloping roof of the room meant that I had to sit down to use the toilet. The decor is slightly out-dated, which is not a negative for me, but could be for others.
Review 79:We had a top floor room with a great view and it was really quiet. It was a good sized and very well equipped room. The bar rooms are spacious and well stocked with local ales and the staff were very friendly. There is a good amount of parking (which can be difficult to find in these Welsh villages). We will be back!
Review 80:i am a vegetarian there was not much choice of food,we had to go to local where they had very good menue for us none animal eaters.also breakfast not included £70.odd per night bit much.wont be going back in a hurry.
Review 81:room was very good in fact excellent ,breakfast was ok as long as you liked kippers or eggs.no vegi breakfast.but was a very nice hotel clean and tidy
Review 82:Stuck in the attic so sloping roof no good for tall husband especially in bathroom! Needs modernization. No hairdryer to be found even though was supposed to be one.
Review 83:Beautiful setting
Review 84:Staff and location.
Review 85:Our room was a family room with scruffy and tired decor. The hot and cold water pressure was at times very bad and the toilet would only flush once every half hour. The food in the bar was over priced. Breakfast was good. The staff and location were the best things about this hotel.
Review 86:Damaged light fitting in room, live and wrapped together with blue tape. Shower poor performer. Three star hotel, restaurant four star prices.
Review 87:Ambience. Friendly and courteous staff. The wonderful beef sandwich. Quiet room. Quality of breakfast. Cleanliness of bedding.
Review 88:Very tired public rooms and bedrooms and very dull and dark. poorly performing shower. bed which broke on sitting up and leaning on headboard dirty carpets in dining areas - needed replacing or cleaning. basic toiletries
Review 89:Location Attitude and helpfulness of staff Food was very good
Review 90:We tried to sleep - but our room was adjacent to the lift which was noisy and also the connecting doors in the corridor did not close quietly,so every time someone came through - the door banged. Someone in the room above us must have been training for a walking marathon as they paced up and down their room and we heard every footstep! Also a party of hotel guests on the tables outside the hotel were drinking and having a good time - but they were very loud and disturbing our attempts to sleep. As there was no one on reception to ask them to please be quieter - I had to go and ask them very tactfully to please keep the noise down - they were apologetic and very nice about this. Also some traffic noise as our room was on the road side of the hotel. If I stayed here again - I would request a quieter room.
Review 91:Friendly and helpful staff Delicious evening meal Lovely location
Review 92:Rooms very basic and not finished to a particularly high standard, although it is a very old building. Could do with a good handyman. Shower on the small side.
Review 93:Good breakfast and very comfortable beds. Parking opposite hotel. Evening meal ok. Beddgellert is a good central place to stay for getting around North Wales.
Review 94:Hotel could do with upgrading - windows didn't close properly, this would help reduce outside noise and keep room warmer if weather colder. We were kept awake on both nights by barking dogs. (Not sure where they were.)
Review 95:Hotel was very nice and clean, spacious rooms. Nice variety of food for breakfast. Lovely village, polite and courteous staff in all shops and cafe.
Review 96:Lack of choices on menu Lack of WiFi throughout hotel Parts of hotel looked run down and too dark for my liking
Review 97:Good fresh tasting alcohol Good service
Review 98:The bar closed quite early but then the hotel caters for mainly hikers. The parking we were blocked in on one night
Review 99:The staff were very friendly and helpful. My sons and grandchildren were camping nearby with their dogs and on the Saturday night we had a meal at the hotel and they accommodated us in a back room so that the dogs could come in and the meal was extremely good
Review 100:Mattress had an uncomfortable lump under my shoulders. Maybe I was just unlucky: my wife found the bed fine.
Review 101:Don't let the name put you off. This is a proper old-fashioned country hotel with plenty of elegance and splendour. Thanks to the thick walls the wi-fi signal doesn't reach the guest rooms, but some might see this as a bonus: your room is a haven from modern life and you can just relax. Breakfast was great although not included.
Review 102:Didn't really find anyrthing we disliked.
Review 103:Lovely location at main crossroads of North Wales, small but comfortable room, excellent restaurant and bar, easy parking, all in all good place to stay at a reasonable price.
Review 104:Price a little steep but probably competitive for area
Review 105:Location and surroundings - handy for everything! 10-15 mins away from the main car parks to Snowdon Staff - very friendly and responsive Beds - very comfortable with full duvets and fluffy pillows
Review 106:Room was very stuffy and the décor was so tired and outdated. External window ledge had completed rotted away. Lift didn't go to same level as our room, no 29. Bar was dark and stuffy and again décor needed updating so we used the other lounge if we wanted to sit.
Review 107:Location: Beddgelert is such a pretty place. Food: breakfasts were made to order and staff were very attentive. Also used the Grill Bar one evening and the food and service were very good. Good to have wifi because there was no phone signal!
Review 108:Can get a bit busy if there are bus groups, and the lift can't cope. Wifi is advertised as only available in the public areas, although some rooms seem to get it if you're close to the window
Review 109:An older-style building with lots of character, a little run-down in some aspects, but not in ways that interfered with the stay. Breakfast and dinner were both good.
Review 110:Decor a little dated in parts. It was very hot during our stay & we couldn't keep the sash windows open.
Review 111:Picturesque setting. Parking available. Rooms were a good size. Staff were polite & friendly. Didn't have breakfast, but had an evening meal one night, food was very well presented & tasty.
Review 112:Old fashioned and poorly decorated, needs a revamp. Room 12 which we were initally given was awful. Paid £75 a night without any breakfast which was expensive considering the standard of the accommodation.
Review 113:Location in Beddgelert is good, but there were probably nice places to stay in the village as well. When I complained about Room 12 we were given 2 other room options without any hassle and picked Room 38 which was much more spacious and had better views. Still old fashioned and cheaply decorated though. The shower was ridiculous.
Review 114:Great location, good food, comfortable room.
Review 115:Location, great views, food excellent,
Review 116:everything
Review 117:nothing
Review 118:The restaurant seemed overpriced and the staff hard to find at times
Review 119:The village it was situated in
Review 120:quiet hotel, in a lovely village
Review 121:No food served after 8 so arriving to a hotel and being told this seemed ridiculous for a Friday night shower and didn't work properly
Review 122:Wifi wasn't very good but it isn't in a lot of places in Wales
Review 123:Great location in a beautiful area
Review 124:Place was a bit needing of a refresh and the bar closed early
Review 125:great staff , very friendly and accommodating.
Review 126:Friendly welcome excellent food
Review 127:bit run down
Review 128:good location, nice staff
Review 129:A rather 'tired' hotel, in need of a 'spruce up'. Room was OK, bed was so so.
Review 130:Location in Snowdonia, good breakfasts
Review 131:Very dark gloomy room.
Review 132:Excellent food and place had been painted since we last visited so added bonus. Good location for walking. Loved grand piano and other artefacts
Review 133:Wifi only available in public rooms. Not really very good.
Review 134:Clean, comfortable with good food.
Review 135:No Wi-fi in rooms.
Review 136:Location was great and rooms were comfortable. Bathroom was a little small but okay.
Review 137:Room was dated with creaky floors and windows.
Review 138:Bathroom was modern And clean
Review 139:Great location and very helpful staff.
