Reviews for Hotel Bellevue

Review 1:Exceptional staff and excellent location. I can't say enough thanks to one of the ladies from front desk who helps me and my family beyond her responsibility.

Review 2:Not a bad experience, but felt the reception carpet was a little old and tired, also the room and bathroom were not very large

Review 3:Location and excellent reception staff

Review 4:No dedicated hotel parking but we were able to park outside free so this is not a big grouse

Review 5:Lovely hotel in a very good location. Very nice attentive staff.

Review 6:Our room was on the backside and the street was quite noisy with people enjoying their evening until 1 am.

Review 7:We had a fabulous stay at Hotel Bellevue and I would highly recommend it. Location is perfect, close to sights, restaurants and the train station. The staff is friendly and accommodating. They all spoke English very well and one receptionist did everything she could to book a last minute taxi for us.

Review 8:Evening meal and service mediocre Rooms size a bit tight but bed of course was big which we liked. Better lighting needed in bathroom, too dim

Review 9:Position, bed, good size bathroom, breakfast, reception staff

Review 10:Very helpful people at the desk! Helped us with dinner reservations and directions to the Chateau! We had one of the best meals of our lives at La Fourchette.....seats 20 people need reservations......well worth the visit!

Review 11:It was not very clean. No vacuuming was ever done. There was a notice that nothing was to be eaten or drunk in the room. It would have been nice to have facilities in the room for tea or coffee. Breakfast was 13 euros and just average. Internet was hopeless and we spent 5 days here. No English channels on TV. Separate toilet from bathroom was inconvenient for washing hands. Lighting was poor. No handle on the closet made it hard to open.

Review 12:The bed was comfortable. It was located close to the castle and restaurants.Staff was friendly, however were unable to help with internet. They acted surprised when someone told them about it.

Review 13:What's with a 50 euro fine for having food and/or drinks in room? Never saw that before.

Review 14:Upgraded room was beautifully decorated. Good size rooms and bath. Great water pressure and temperature. Gwen and Barbara were super kind, pleasant and helpful.

Review 15:Nothing!

Review 16:The room was spacious and very comfortable. The location being right in front of the Amboise Chateau, being able to park on the street very nearby, and walking to all the local attractions made this an ideal place to stay..

Review 17:The location was excellent, next to the chateau and near restaurants and shops. Walking distance to the train station. The the room was clean and modern. The restaurant in the hotel was very good.

Review 18:Location was good

Review 19:Did not like the hotel at all ! We were provided room 22 which was spooky and then moved to room 5 where we could hear every shower and toilet flush close to us !

Review 20:Difficulty in parking near hotel. Arrived in Amboise on a rainy afternoon and finally found parking over a quarter of a mile away on a main road to hotel. Hotel would not let us put bicycles in "garage". A final warning, when we got to the room a notice greeted us with; "No food or drink to be consumed in the room. If cleaning staff find any evidence , you can be fined up to 75 Euros". Hotel just felt a bit dated.

Review 21:Friendly staff, clean hotel. good for access on foot to the centre of Amboise.

Review 22:1. We were woken at 12.30 and kept awake till after with shouting in street and loud , thumping music from a bar or disco next door. It was a boiling hot August Sunday night and we had to open a window as no aircon2. No parking. No secure parking. We had to circle round for ages to find a space only to have to carry luggage down a floor as the lift seemed FAULTY and would not stop at floor 1 - only floor 2 3. Dirty BROWN water gushing from bathtap when I ran bath 4. Our so called superior room was noisy with no nice chair or sofa. 5. An officious leaflet was left on the table informing us we were BANNED from eating and drinking in the room. If we dared to we would be fined 50 Euros. This is not a great way to treat guests . 6.Dingy, dark, corridoors need re-decorating and modernsing . Proper lighting whould replace the 1970s style time switched 7. I think we were unlucky though. We think were were given a spare " superior" room at the noisy back to the hotel rather than the ones at the front which I think went to people from a coach party of American pensioners I had seen a couple of reviews saying this hotel was poor value for money and I feel a complete fool for not taking heed of them. I do hope this helps improve things for other travellers

Review 23:We were so very disappointed with this hotel. It looked so nice in thepictures but was very poor value for money . I was so very sorry I hadbooked it. It was in a nice central position but we had a rotten stay.Staff were pleasant enough - and the noise and brown water from taps, broken lift etc was not their fault. But I have given them a bad scorebecause they didn't seem overly concerned about our sleepless noisynight and my worries about the brown water coming from the bathtap Threestar hotels in the Europe are usually much better than this

Review 24:Unfortunately gentleman (posibly owner) ? very unfriendly the day we arrived and the following morning and for that reason would not stay there again. 2x girls on reception helpful enough but not great either.

Review 25:Location was great

Review 26:Decor a bit drab in our rooms. One room looked out onto wall in interior courtyard which was a bit depressing but for one night's stay this was not a problem, the other room had a view of the chateau and old medieval street.

Review 27:Location couldn't be better, friendly staff, brilliant shower, top quality toiletries. Family room - two rooms, two bathrooms self contained, really good for family with older chidren or even two couples. Free safety deposit box was a bonus.

Review 28:For the price and standard of the hotel the breakfast was "unimaginative" (rather basic). We have had better at lower priced hotels.

Review 29:The room was very comfortable and the hotel was ideally placed for touring the town.

Review 30:Became a little noise in the morning, but worth evening enjoyment. Parking on the street can be challenging during the summer high season.

Review 31:Just off the main walk in Ambroise...the front rooms overlook the Loire River and we had a spectacular sunset provided.

Review 32:booked twin rooms but put in a double. Room was very basically furnished. Bedside lights not bright enough to read by. No handles on wardrobe door.

Review 33:The central location was excellent, opposite the river and next to the castle.

Review 34:No eating or drinking in rooms. No air conditioning Tiny rooms Bar staff wouldn't provide ice or glasses so we could have a drink from our terrace.

Review 35:Location

Review 36:The room was very dirty and even after we asked to clean it up the next day it was not done for the whole duration of our stay. Cobwebs and dirt! I would not recommend this hotel and we'll stay away from it in the future.

Review 37:We were there during a heat wave and it was miserably hot, they need to have fans as standard in every room when it's like this.

Review 38:The decor in the rooms was modern and clean and the hotel restaurant was quite cool and hip.

Review 39:Great location right next to the Chateau and the Main Street. Many restaurants very close by making eating out in the evening simple. Very friendly staff.

Review 40:No food allowed in the room with a threat that any evidence of food would incur an extra charge. No kettle so no tea or coffee in the room.Hotel is a confusing labyrinth to find rooms, even the staff didn't know.Strange thumping and dragging noises at night.

Review 41:Great central location, parking available near by.Clean rooms. Amazing views of castle from back windows. Supermarket close by.Close to the beautiful Loire river.

Review 42:No air conditioning, but we had a fan and were able to open window in evening for cool breezes.

Review 43:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were able to walk everywhere and since we were at the end of town found parking right in front even in high season.

Review 44:Breakfast, which we didn't eat was too expensive compared to other place where we stayed in our 3 week trip to France.

Review 45:The large bed which was great made the room small, but it had a shared patio with table and chairs, this more than made up for the small bedroom

Review 46:Booked a superior room which was small and in no way superior. Provision of towelling robes does not automatically make it a superior room. No ventilation in the bathroom which resulted in a damp mouldy smell. It was very hot during our visit but the provision of a table fan in the room did little to improve the comfort level. Breakfast not good value for money. Carpet on staircase looked grubby and unwelcoming.

Review 47:Convenient location

Review 48:No aircon in the bedroom made for an uncomfortable night. This was aggravated further by the fact that the room, although apparently facing a quiet street at the rear of the hotel was only about 20 metres from a small night club which kept going until past 2am. Not very noisy but just too much to keep the window open and too hot to keep the window closed.

Review 49:The hotel is well situated opposite the bridge over the Loire and below the Chateau. Parking is on street but free close by. The hotel has clearly been recently refurbished and is well kept.

Review 50:Price. Difficult to find a car parking space near the hotel in the afternoon after the arrival. Dark lighting in the room and bathroom. Wi-Fi not working. Narrow corridors and stairs; low doorways; unexpected steps (be extremelly careful or you will get hurt!)

Review 51:View of the Loire. The building is old but very clean and well-maintained. Good location - near the castle; in the very centre of the town of Amboise. Helpful staff.

Review 52:A few steps from Chateau Amboise. Clean, comfortable room, nice breakfast, accommodating staff - Rebecca was especially helpful. Nice restaurant in hotel for dinner. About a 15 minute walk from the train station.

Review 53:wifi free but prone to slowness and unscheduled disruptions Weather not hot for summer but lack of air on meant it was hot for sleeping

Review 54:location great Good sized bedroom Fantastic bathroom and shower

Review 55:Had to leave window open for fresh air and to cool room. Bedding is heavy without the option to just use sheet. Would have liked a magnifying mirror.

Review 56:Bathroom was good size, with good plug placement. Lighting in bath was good. Bed was clean and fresh.

Review 57:Wifi continuously dropped off and required a new sign-in. Bag storage was not secure, but easily accessible to anyone in the lobby. Also. while we were in the lobby waiting for friends, the desk was unoccupied and several people entered the hotel unchallenged. Probably not a big issue in a small town like Amboise, but......

Review 58:Good mix of quality and an older style.

Review 59:only downside is no on property parking. We found a spot across the street. I would not let the parking deter me from choosing his hotel

Review 60:we arrived very late and the staff was very helpful.the front desk went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. The location is perfect for walking and we had a cute balcony facing the river. Nice bathroom and small (typical for France) but very nice room

Review 61:Bar staff. Off hand in manner. Not interested in polite service. Phone not connected to wall properly. Advised NO food in rooms..... Not sure if paying top dollar for a room allows them to tell us we cannot have a drink chocolate or even a lunch bread roll is appropriate . Very noisy music at night .

Review 62:Close to chateau and old town

Review 63:Lovely room - modern without losing any charm! Amboise castle was literally out our window. Very short walk to great bakeries/restaurants. Staff (excellent english) were so sweet, even giving us an extra room heater to keep these Texans warm!

Review 64:Too expensive Rooms quite old. Tight stairs and very small elevator.Fits 2 ppl. Issues with wifi. Asked man at front desk was extremelyunhelpful and said it must be our phones because it is not his wifi!Hello…all of our devices were not connecting…. So did not want to spendany more $$ there (bf was not included and was 13 euro pp) , so hadbreakfast around the corner at a great patisserie.

Review 65:Check in lady was very helpful and pleasant…not so much other staff!!Location good.

Review 66:I assume the issues I will describe are common to all hotels on the area. There was no dedicated parking. First day was a headache, then we got the hang of it. Elevator was tiny. Two of us with 2 suitcases barely fit. Bedroom was very small while bathroom was large. Both rooms were about the same size. French breakfast is croissants, cheese, ham and coffee and thus not worth the price the hotel charged. On the other days we bought food at the chateau and train station. We took maybe 20 minutes to check out due to credit card issue. I am guessing either it was my American card which lacked a chip or it was their card reader. The receptionist got a different reader and after a couple more tries it worked. We also tried my card and my wife's card.

Review 67:It is located In the shadow of 1 chateau. I could walk to two. Both were enjoyable. Easy drive to several others. WiFi was free. Staff was friendly. For dinner they served burger and fries as one option and fairly inexpensive wine.

Review 68:Breakfast lacked freshness.

Review 69:Location was good, just close to Chateau Amboise, walking distance from the railway station. The reception was very friendly.

Review 70:The surly waiter spoilt the atmosphere in the restaurant which was lacking some ambience already. Bar prices a tad expensive.

Review 71:Lovely reception staff, nice sized room with a large bathroom. Good food in the on site restaurant.

Review 72:Rooms are spacious with a new furniture, the bed is sooo huge and comfortable, also everything was extremely clean. We had a view of the castle from our windows. The hotel is situated on the bank in the very center of Amboise. We stayed for 2 days in December and enjoyed every minute!

Review 73:There was not much space to put anything and the towels were not changed every day which was tricky because it was hard to hang things up! A few well-placed hooks would help.

Review 74:Terrific staff and wonderful location. The hotel is very attractive and extremely easy to find. There is free parking just minutes away and one can easily do a days sightseeing just in Amboise on foot from the hotel. Lots of nice restaurants to choose from in the area and great fun to go about choosing them in this really lovely town.

Review 75:We found the breakfast too expensive for the quality and range of food. They should cut the price by half.

Review 76:Location, comfortable, clean, nice and helpful staff

Review 77:No eating allowed in the room.

Review 78:Betty easy too find. Great central location to everything we wanted to see and do. Great staff. Wonderful river view from our room.

Review 79:Charming hotel...felt more like a bed and breakfast. Loved the location. The only negative was that we only had one night there. Wish we had more time to explore the area. Wonderful spot!

Review 80:Our room had an ugly smell because of the curtain separating the bathroom from the room (which was made from some cheap leather imitation). Our friends' room had an ugly smell because of the paint on the walls. With outside temperatures around 8 degrees at night, a little more heating in the room would have been nice.

Review 81:Excellent location, right next door to the castle, quiet at night. Free parking easy to find on the street. The rooms are very clean, and the staff is very friendly.

Review 82:Wi fi reception was poor in our room so we had to sit in the hallway. But there was computer desk straight out side our room so it wasn't too bad

Review 83:We loved the location, the staff and the comfy room

Review 84:The only criticism I had was the failure to provide fresh shower gel each day when the previous ones had been almost exhausted. Also the exhaust fan in bathroom did not work. As a result room got very steamed up and stuffy. Breakfast not re-stocked in a timely manner.

Review 85:The location beneath Amboise Castle and cleanliness.

Review 86:The room was a little "snug" and Wi-Fi was sometimes tricky, but those were very minor problems.

Review 87:Excellent location, very comfortable and clean. Loved the terrace.

Review 88:The bathroom door was broken and would not shut. No discount on the room because of this.

Review 89:Location was excellent and very accessible to everything in town.

Review 90:Our room was excellent, except it was at the top of a steep stairway and not accessible by lift. This is not the hotels's fault, but readers should understand this could be a challenge for any one who has trouble walking, and those who do should clearly request a room that does not have this issue.

Review 91:The hotel is located almost right behind the castle, and the street with nearly all the affordable restaurants in Amboise is right around the corner. The staff was especially helpful. Our rental car turned out to have serious problems, and the staff helped me contact the company that rented it to us and arrange for a replacement.

Review 92:Some sounds from window when people walked by, narrow street. Tight for three but manageable room size. Double check room when leaving. We found parking on the street near the hotel entrance.

Review 93:Room was nicely decorated. Staff spoke our language, a real plus. Great location, for local attractions.

Review 94:great location with a beautiful view of the river off of our balcony. The room and bathroom were large, very modern decor, great value for the money. The city center was directly behind our hotel which made everything within walking distance. A lot of free parking directly fronting the hotel.

Review 95:we stayed in a two room suite, the size larger than we needed and the price quite high. Sometimes the pipes in the bathroom were very noisy - surprising for a fancy room. breakfast was mediocre

Review 96:excellent location within walking minutes of main part of town. staff very friendly and helpful, good english and willing to speak French with us too We were able to store rented bikes in a hotel garage, very handy comfortable bed and room, quiet even though the room faced a street

Review 97:The wifi could be more user friendly. It requires multiple lot ons with their longish password.

Review 98:Great location, comfortable, clean room with a nice staff. It an old hotel that has been nicely renovated. The friendly staff, we're welcoming and helpful. It was great to be able to walk to the cute town and many attractions.

Review 99:Dark, dingy hallways. Our "upgraded" extra large triple room had a shower so small, that I barely fit in. (I am a size 6). Shower overflowed. Peeling paint off the bathroom wall. Dark bathroom. Small beds. No closet space. We moved the second night to another room. Better bath. Still, dark dingy halls! Best description: an aged ballerina with a dark eye! No way this is 3 stars. Review books give it 2 stars.

Review 100:No climate control in room Room was too warm, could only open window to cool off, really need a fan or airconditioning to enable comfortable climate and sleep. With windows open, very noisy on alley way- room 14

Review 101:The location was good allowed walking everywhere. Breakfast was good value and convenient Room was a very good size and updated except for climate control

Review 102:We had a large family room. There was no place to hang clothes in the twin portion, a minor problem.

Review 103:The staff was friendly and helpful, the view was great, the room was spacious and quiet, the breakfast was generous, and the location perfect.

Review 104:The carpet is a little old, and there is no air conditioning, but on the other hand, it can be just part of the old world charm which is a part of the town.

Review 105:The location is excellent. We could go about the town without carrying a lot of stuff, and it is really nice to be able to walk a few steps to the bank of the river to enjoy the sunset, or have some coffee at one of those shops.

Review 106:The hotel is outdated: old furniture, old .. everything. Also, bad smell in the room and bathroom. Bad Internet signal.

Review 107:Location is perfect, few steps away from the castle. Staff is really nice and welcoming. Quiet during night, even rooms facing the main street. Wonderful sunset from room.

Review 108:The room facing the back was noisy since it faces the back street where pedestrians/locals walk, and is also where another hotel's entrance is located. Also the bathroom doors were accordion doors that sneaked when open and close.

Review 109:Good Location conveniently located right in center of old town. Lots of restaurants, bakeries patisserie close by within easy walking distance. There's also a small Carrefour store close by.

Review 110:Wifi is very slow. Though I like firm mattresses, the queen mattress was hard even for me.

Review 111:Situated near the river, Hotel Bellevue is steps away from Chateau d'Amboise and numerous cafés and restaurants. We drove here and parking is free along the street in front. Our family room for 4 is spacious and L'Occitane bath products are a treat.

Review 112:No fan or air conditioning in our room and when we opened the window no peace and quiet as a very busy road exists immediately outside. Our friends appeared to have a leaking toilet in their room - reported it but no action was taken. Shocked at the prices of drinks in the bar.

Review 113:Nothing

Review 114:Location was perfect for going to many chateaus in the area. Last night we were there a hot air balloon floated past our window over the river. So beautiful.

Review 115:Having to pay 10 euro a day to park our motorbike in a small space in the hotel garage which doubles as a store room

Review 116:Lovely hotel, great location, lovely food.

Review 117:Not allowed to eat in the room! This is the first time in 20 years of travel that I encounter a hotel with such a rule. Staff in bar arrogant & rude & despite attempts of front desk staff to make up for it, this left a bad taste No tea/coffee facilities in the room

Review 118:Great location

Review 119:Stayed two days on our way South. Stayed last year as well. Excellent position in town and overlooking the river. Now the new bar is finished it's a much nicer hotel than before. Updating still going on, but we had one of the new rooms at the front this time.

Review 120:Breakfast buffet was pretty basic for the price.

Review 121:The room was cart large and comfortable. The bath was fitted with beautiful toiletries, thick towels and bathrobes. Was a bit worried about the lack of air conditioning but the cross ventilation made it unnecessary.

Review 122:Comfortable. Easily accessible and everything we needed. Good internet access. Very good location close to all the restaurants and attractions. Well priced. Had free parking on street.

Review 123:The only quibble is that there was a slight odour of damp throughout our room, and, worse still, an unmistakable odour of backed-up drains or the like in one of the bathrooms. We had to keep the bathroom door shut so as not to smell it in the bedroom. Perhaps something irreparable to do with an old building.

Review 124:The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The family room (two rooms connected by a short hall plus two full baths) has the best configuration of any we've tried and is excellent value. The location is perfect, next to the castle and the main drag where all the cafes and shops are. Free parking was easy right across from the hotel.

Review 125:the hall on first floor is clearly not renewed and oldfashioned.

Review 126:rooms are OK and renewed. Very well situated. Breakfast and breakfast oom is also clean en renewed.

Review 127:Old fashioned room - (Room 1) - plumbing from room above very intrusive, you know when everyone above is going to the loo and having a shower. Pigeons on roof - with mess coming down onto the sink below. Dark dingy hall/stairs.

Review 128:Location, perfect for visiting the town.

Review 129:Hallways are dark and narrow and in need of renovation.

Review 130:The hotel is located right in the heart of Amboise. You can even see the back of the famous Amboise castle from the room window. The room is markted as 3 star, but it while its reception is sort of 3 star, the hallways could even be 2 star, the rooms are easily 4 star - spatious, well appointed etc. Everything was fine...

Review 131:We were so pleased with the location. Shopping was fun. We could walk to most venues and the TI was close and the staff there was most helpful. The staff at the Bellevue was just marvelous!

Review 132:We were not able to connect to the wifi, but admittedly didn't try that hard. The road traffic was actually louder than it seemed from the street. The night was warm, so we had to leave the windows open (the hotel did not have a fan for use), but even with them closed it was a constant hum. The room was small and a bit sparse. The hallways were very tight. There was only room for two people in the elevator. The linens were nice on the bed, but the bed was a bit concave. We slept like rocks though!

Review 133:The staff was extremely friendly and helpful; they spoke English very well. The location was very central, with a beautiful view of the river. There are a variety of places to eat and drink right at your fingertips. The four course menu at the Lion d'Or was delicious. We didn't try the downstairs lounge, but it looked lively and fun. They had beautiful Occitane soap and shampoo. The castle is only minutes away.

Review 134:Only on-street parking, but we only had trouble finding a spot once.

Review 135:Excellent location steps from the centre of Amboise, extensive breakfast, pleasant staff who speak excellent English.
