Reviews for Chambres d'hôte Le Clos Saint Raphaël
Review 1:Everything was perfect. Very big and clean room with amazing views of Amboise castle. Very near of city centre. Fantastic breakfast. Hospitality, good recommendations (visits, restaurants, routes..). Private parking. We recommend it. :)
Review 2:Unfortunately, there were some existing plumbing problems with the WC, and it was fairly smelly. This detracted from the otherwise very pleasant experience.
Review 3:Madam was very welcoming and attentive. She even offered to do our washing for us! More of a B and B experience than a hotel.
Review 4:When I went to pay my bill there was some confusion. I thought I hadpaid 30% deposit but Madame had not received any notification frombooking.comI will follow up with Booking.com when I return to AUSTRALIA----it was a little embarrassing forme. Madame handled it well..
Review 5:Madame was a wonderful host. Breakfast provided was wonderful
Review 6:Room had no heat our first night. Room lacked "comfort" items:no kleenex, very faint lights in the room, no space for personal itemsin the bathroom. Breakfast food was fine, but coffee was always ice-cold. Just not a very comfortable place to stay.
Review 7:Aude (our hostess) was wonderful. She saw that my husband washandicapped, and she insisted on carrying all our luggage up 2 fullflights of stairs. Very nice person!
Review 8:Rather close to a busy roundabout although traffic died down during the night. Because we were on the ground floor there wasn't the view we had expected.
Review 9:Easy walking distance across atmospheric bridge to restaurants.
Review 10:Room was amazing, beautiful house and exceptional hosts. The hotel is really one of a kind and will make your stay special. We had a terrific view of the bridge and a nice stroll into town to have dinner. Big thanks also to the hotel owner and booking.com for going above and beyond to contact us when we were running late to make sure we could get into the hotel. We'll definitely be back, thank you.
Review 11:Madame was charming and extremely helpful. Breakfast good, lots of selection. Rooms very good size and great bed. Good location and lovely view of the river.
Review 12:The only concern was being located on a busy roundabout. The first night was warm and we had to leave the windows open. But the other nights were cool and we were able to close the shutters and didn't notice the noise at all.
Review 13:We had a very large room with a wonderful view of the chateau. Just a short walk across the bridge to everything one wants to see in Amboise, but it's away from the huge crowds. It's also a great location for easy driving access to other Loire sights. The hotel is decorated in a lovely artistic style and the owner is quite charming. Breakfast was available until 11:00 (which was really quite a nice treat) and was very tasty! Parking was a real plus for busy Amboise. Le Clos Rafael is a great choice for Amboise
Review 14:It was a very hot day, and without any air conditioning in the room, it got quite uncomfortably hot overnight. At times, there was a bit of a sewerage smell in the bathroom. The breakfast was OK but not great, as the "fresh" fruit obviously comes from a can and the croissants were sub-standard for France, compared to other hotels we stayed at on our trip.
Review 15:It's a nice room with a nice bathroom (enormous shower!), but it's across the river from the main part of Amboise, so not very close to any restaurants (10-minute walk, so not too bad). We stayed there for the final night of our time in Amboise since it was very close to the train station. We went there one day before our stay to organise dropping our bags there the following morning prior to check-in time, and Aude was very helpful in accomodating this.
Review 16:Room adjacent to the main road so we had to close the windows making the room stuffy.
Review 17:Beautifully appointed rooms with historic charm and contemporary facilities.
Review 18:Nothing
Review 19:An absolutely fantastic place to stay. The rooms have a real wow factor. We stayed as a family of three in a quadruple room - which is really a suite. I almost don't want to tell others how good it is in case I can't book it again in future! Can't praise it enough - unbelievable value.
Review 20:There is nothing not to like.
Review 21:Great location from which to explore Amboise. Best breakfast on our trip from the Algarve through Spain and France and back to the UK. Secure free parking was good. Our host Aude is a wonderful bubbly person and made the stay even better!
Review 22:wifi was not very stable. who needs wifi in such place though
Review 23:Fantastic, specious room (and the design!). Very good breakfast. Very friendly owner. Great location and view (Loire, bridge and old town)
Review 24:Very noisy location on a roundabout! Very difficult access. No reception between 6pm and 0800 and this had not been explained. No AC Poor sitting area outside
Review 25:Friendly welcome
Review 26:Clean and comfortable. Welcoming and convenient. Perfect for a stopover for a family of 5. We had the quadruple room and an extra bed for our 6 year old.
Review 27:None
Review 28:It is very clean and comfortable to stay. The breakfast is beautiful and the owners of B&B are very nice. I love the cozy bed!!! I stongly recommend it if you want to stay in Amboise.
Review 29:It would have been nice to have air conditioning. It became very warm in our room and the fan did not help. The breakfast was good but could have used some protein - hard boiled eggs maybe.
Review 30:The staff was extremely welcoming! Aude was very kind to meet us after check-in when our train came in late. Elogia was generous enough to drive us to go pick up our rental car. The room was very cute and the bathroom was very clean.
Review 31:It is closed tight before 5pm. We got caught with heavy cases and nowhere to leave them. Then cases had to be dragged up 3 flights of stairs. Our room was on a very busy road with heavy traffic all night. No sleep. No aircon. No TV. We couldnt change hotels as full tariff charged for last minute cancellation and there was nothing available anyway. I have never criticised an hotel before and i wonder how there can b such glowing comments from other guests. At the time of booking there were no complaints.
Review 32:The bedroom was large. The manageress was nice.
Review 33:Not really!
Review 34:We felt that we were living at home. It was comfortable and cozy. The room was spacious and we had a terrace. The owner was very friendly, she liked to hug and kiss :) We shared the breakfast table with other guests and met people from around the world. It was interesting. The town is immediately across the bridge.
Review 35:It would have been nice if she helped us organize some of our activities, or responded to messages I sent through booking.com because I had some questions when preparing for the trip that a local could best answer. Maybe she does this for people who speak better french.
Review 36:Breakfast. And spacious, clean, pretty room/house. She was also kind and very flexible/accommodating.
Review 37:Our window overlooked the balcony of the downstairs room, so had to keep windows closed to avoid hearing the boozer honeymoon couple below! Beds not so comfy, but then nothing beats home!
Review 38:Aude welcomed us in true French fashion! Intimate and cosy, perfect with two bedroom , so children adjoins our room! She knew all the best places to eat on a Sunday night! And the cocktail bars too! Wish we could have stayed longer! Perfect local for the chateaus. Parking space excellent , security top notch too! So quaint! We'll be back !
Review 39:If you book the Francois 1st room, you will have a view of the Castle across the Loire. Huge room, No TV, 5 minutes walk to the restaurants. Protected and private parking!! Our hostess was wonderful, with good recommendations and good spirits.
Review 40:Entrance through locked gate (which does not open until around 05:00p) located on busy highway. We had no knowledge that the owner does not arrive until around 5:00p to open the gate, then she quickly checks you in and then leaves until the AM. Thus, a very confusing-stressful process, but I found some locals that explained that she does not come until around 5:00p. Had my first ever car accident while trying to leave property with no phone on site to use to call for assist. Not the experience which we had hoped for and expected.
Review 41:Large room.
Review 42:The owner Audi is very warm and friendly, she made my husband and I immediately feel at home. The accommodation was very spacious and well-maintained. The location was perfect, We only needed to walk across the bridge to get into town. The breakfast was fresh and abundant. We will be very happy to return again
Review 43:The highlight was undoubtedly the superb breakfast ... so much choice! The dining room is delightfully presented and the tables are beautifully set. A lot of thought has also gone into the presentation of the rooms - ours was lovely and spacious, and it had a view of the chateau and bridge to the town centre.
Review 44:There were no bad experiences, just be prepared to climb a few steps/stairs.
Review 45:Olde Worlde, plenty of room in the bedroom, an excellent shower and a very adequate breakfast.
Review 46:The Le Clos Saint Raphael is directly across the river from the city of Amboise. You can walk across the bridges to access the city which has very old narrow streets. My room was outstanding....the Leonardo Da Vinci suite....a great find. The women running this place were charming.
Review 47:The heater in rooms did not work during our stay.. It was fortunate that the temperature during our stay did not fall too much and we did not miss it completely.
Review 48:Location, great space and cleanliness, wonderful breakfast
Review 49:it is a very beautiful place , the beds are big and everything is very comfortable , the location is fantastic , it is near the river and it is just few meters from the center the host is very welcoming and we have very special breakfast. recommended
Review 50:Staff was gone when we arrived at 8:30pm, fortunately a neighbor grocery store clerked knew her and called her for us, otherwise we would have no place to stay for the night. Room was large but sparsely furnished. There was a lot of traffic noise as the property was right at the end of a bridge.
Review 51:If the weather is nice as it was for us, having the windows open at night is not good. B&B is along a roadway. Healthy walk to center.
Review 52:Lovely decor and great Continental breakfast. Beautiful view of the Loire and chateau.
Review 53:Lovely room with great view over the river. A warm welcome. Very good breakfast. Close to the Amboise town centre, simply walk accross the bridge. Excellent breakfast.
Review 54:A tricky driveway entrance due to rush hour traffic mostly.
Review 55:From the moment we stepped in the door, until we left, we were treated like queens. The room decors were something out of a magazine, breakfast delicious and we were able to walk to an excellent restaurant.
Review 56:- internet wasn't working very well
Review 57:-very pretty, cozy, large room, probably just renovated, everything looked brand new! - excellent morning breakfast (available until 11, which is pretty rare but let us sleep in on our last day of holiday) - very kind and forthcoming host - free parking - just on the other side of the bridge from the town center, amboise castle etc.
Review 58:A little hard to locate for us. Right on the main road hidden by large gate. Noise was not a problem though. The location was excellent for an easy walk to all restaurants and the chateau.
Review 59:Friendliness of the hostess. decor was lovely
Review 60:There was no one there when we arrived and the gates were closed with no obvious sign of life or access. I had to scale the fence to attract the attention of a fellow guest in order to get in, but we then had to wait half hour or so before any of the staff showed up. The premises are on a busy main road. Our room was at the rear and we had limited traffic noise but our room was separated from the next one by a locked interconnecting door and quiet conversation was muffled audible. It was no hardship not to have a TV but the WiFi was dodgy. On balance the price of €135 was on the low VfM side
Review 61:Breakfast was very good and the access to Amboise was pretty good across the Loire 5-10 mins walk. Once in the premises parking was OK. Bedroom was v spacious, well furnished. The en suite shower room was equally sizeable. Tea and coffee making facilities were welcome. Our interaction with the staff when we met them was good however...
Review 62:Our hostess was gracious and accommdating. She allowed us to park in the Clos after our departure so as not to have to struggle with finding a parking spot in Amboise on a busy market day. The view of the city and chateau was breathtaking from our room. I would re moment this B&B to all. The
Review 63:Recommend taking own toiletries as soap and shower gel were in short supply but no big deal.
Review 64:Refreshingly unique and full of character. Spacious bedroom and bathroom. Very friendly staff and great location. Secure (and free) parking was a bonus.
Review 65:The road out side was very busy and a bit noisy at peak times of the day.
Review 66:We had a lovely clean, comfortable room. Breakfast was simple and plentiful. Location was great for sight seeing in the area and a nice walk over the bridge to avoid the traffic.
Review 67:For a suit of two nice rooms there is only one large bathroom. Will be better to have two WC and one large bathroom.
Review 68:Convenient location Nice staff Good parking
Review 69:nothing
Review 70:Good location near the city center, close to bars and restaurants and the Chateau. Nice larger bedrooms and a large bathroom. Decent breakfast. Parking on site.
Review 71:Helpful friendly Owner and staff.A lovely large room overlooking the Loire and the chateau of Amboise. A secure bicycle garage. Easy access to the Loire veloroute
Review 72:For people that appreciate well-ironed sheets, this hotel could be a bit dissapointing.
Review 73:the location, close to the old centre; comfortable bed and the decoration of bedrooms and breakfast room.
Review 74:Very welcoming and detailed advice given on local restaurants and attractions Short walk across bridge to town, and wonderful cocktails in le Shaker on island half way across bridge. Wonderful view of Chateau from our window in large room (Catherine de Medici ?) and immense bathroom with walk in shower. Secure parking on site, but as clearly stated on the website, not open to 5pm
Review 75:As the B & B is located on a fairly busy road, at a roundabout, there is a fair bit of traffic noise. Don't be put off - take ear plugs!
Review 76:Friendly owner/staff Brilliant location, view of river & chateau Lovely breakfast Really comfy bed, good bathroom
Review 77:No air conditioning and terrace was not swept clean with evidence off dog droppings
Review 78:Room size ,staff very good and helpful, beautiful decor and very good breakfast. We would stay there again any time.Adrian and Barbara Australia
Review 79:I would have appreciated extra pillows and blankets in the room and a face cloth in the washroom. Fresh fruit and muesli and a hot food would have been welcome additions to breakfast.
Review 80:great location, beautiful view of the river and chateau from the window. Owner was extremely friendly and suggested restaurants and local attractions despite limited ability to speak english. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. The washroom/shower was newly renovated and clean. The breakfast room was beautifully decorated and a wide variety of traditional french items were available for breakfast - pastry, cheese, meat, cereal, yoghurt, fruit salad, dried fruit, juice and coffee.
Review 81:Absolutely nothing!
Review 82:Everything! Delightful situation and the decor was so tastefully done. I should highly recommend this B & B to anyone planning to visit this most historical area of France. Judith, Christchurch, NZ
Review 83:Nothing Initially hard to find but only because it is right on a roundabout and we drove right past it.
Review 84:Beautiful room Excellent friendly hostess Very convenient location Lovely view Very good breakfast included
Review 85:At 35 degrees, it was too hot to be without air con!
Review 86:No TV, radio, fridge, clock...it was very relaxing. Large rooms, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Helpful and friendly staff.
Review 87:not knowing you cannot check in before 5 pm…we had a very anxious couple of hours when we arrived having traveled 6000 miles to discover place locked up tight and no answer when calling on phone
Review 88:Great location, parking and breakfast…lovely hosts
Review 89:Nothing.
Review 90:Our family of four (including two teenagers) stayed here for one night in early July 2014. The B&B is located on the river across from the main part of town. The building is clean and comfortable and elegantly decorated. We were given two spacious, connecting rooms with a large, modern bathroom. The wifi worked well, and there was a dry, secure place to store our bicycles. The breakfast was good, with an array of options. The owner was very accommodating on our checkout day, enabling us to enjoy the town comfortably while storing our luggage for a few hours. We enjoyed our stay here very much, would definitely stay here again, and recommend it highly to others.
Review 91:The hotel has a difficult entrance when you first arrive and is located on a noisy traffic spot
Review 92:The hotel is great value and the team running it fantastic and really helpful
Review 93:The wifi was a little unreliable at times.
Review 94:Absolutely charming hotel, really beautifully furnished and decorated. Tons of space in our rooms but it still felt very cozy. Great price. Delicious breakfast, too, with lots of options of what to eat. And the most helpful staff! She made us feel very welcome, gave us great recommendations of where to eat dinner, and helped us with everything we needed. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Review 95:We had a front room room which had a fab view, but a little traffic noise in the morning, not enough to stop us sleeping.
Review 96:Fabulous view from window, spotlessly clean, nothing too much trouble. Perfect for walking into town for dinner (5mins). Would definitely recommend and would not hesitate to book here on the future.
Review 97:Nothing to find fault with.
Review 98:Welcoming hostess. Delightful accommodation. Stylish decor. Few minutes walk over the two bridges to Centre Ville. Best breakfast of our holiday. Everything was perfect and will certainly return.
Review 99:it's a small thing but the main gate is locked before the check-in time from 5pm onwards and there isn't any doorbell. It may be inconvenient for those who wish to drop off their luggage early.
Review 100:Staff was very friendly and location is good, right across the river from amboise centre.
Review 101:Excellent location , friendliness

Review 112:Breakfast was fab, very extensive and delicious.
Review 113:Beautiful decor, friendly welcome, very accomodating. Lovely spacious room Free secure parking. Superb breakfast
Review 114:Excellent location, lovely room, friendly staff.
Review 115:Convenient location with great views across the river to the Amboise Chateau. Secure offstreet parking.
Review 116:Amboise is beautiful and walking shower excellent. View from room was lovely. The lady who ran the hotel very helpful and delightful.
Review 117:There wasn't any air conditioning, just a tower fan.
Review 118:The room was large and l decorated immaculately..The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 119:Very welcoming, lovely, huge room, great location; a perfect spot from which to explore the area or simply relax.
Review 120:The landlady. What a character.
Review 121:Lovely room with amazing view of the river Great walk over the bridge to the old part of the town. Convenient for visiting chateaux
Review 122:Being made to feel so much at home with the owners. They could not have have been more pleasant
