Reviews for Le Gouverneur Hotel

Review 1:Breakfast coffee could have been better

Review 2:Great location right in the center of the town, beautiful old building, the staff read the message I left on my Booking reservation and emailed me to follow up, parking was easy and affordable.

Review 3:No dislike...

Review 4:Hotel has an excellent location, nicely decorated boutique hotel, carefully renovated.. personnel very polite we were extended warm greeting and felt at home...

Review 5:Only filtered coffee available at a price! sometimes, people just want an expresso and croissant - why pay 30 euros for 2 adults and a child for breakfast - too expensive!

Review 6:Location and size of room

Review 7:Not a dislike. You have to be in reasonably good shape to get your bags up the stairs:)

Review 8:Close to town, free parking, layout and history of the building

Review 9:Fantastic place, such great value for the money, staff very nice, room great - even gave us a larger 3 x bed room. Right in the centre of the lovely town, parking within a couple of minutes (free for as long as you like). If your looking for a great little French town together with a charming hotel at a good price, stay here - we will return whenever we next visit the area.

Review 10:Nothing bad just disappointment on the size of the room.

Review 11:The location was very good although no parking on site the public parking was only through the town walls to the rear of the hotel and was free. The rooms were well equipped. We were a little disappointed as this was our second stay and the room we were allocated was very small as opposed to our previous visit. The breakfast was adequate but not exceptional.

Review 12:Odd smell from bathroom like problem with the trap in the sink. Also we had 2nd floor room which is actually third floor in Europe and it was a struggle getting our luggage up the stairs. Unless you are young and full of energy I would suggest a lower floor.

Review 13:Location, great price and triple room gave us room to spread out. Breakfast room and offering very nice.

Review 14:The room was very hot. The receptionist was very busy, answering the phone whilst we were booking in. He was polite, but it was irritating that he kept stopping to speak to people on the phone.

Review 15:The hotel is conveniently located, right next to the restaurants and shops. The building is very old and quaint, but well restored. Good breakfast. There is a car park next door. all the rooms are individually decorated and named. I had requested a particular room, and was given the exact one.

Review 16:The building itself was so pretty, and it was fun to be inside an authentic example of traditional Alsatian architecture. The town was small and pretty. Our room was comfortable; we were glad there was a fan in the room since the property was not air conditioned.

Review 17:No elevator. If you have heavy baggage ask for the ground floor. No air condition and the windows can't be opened. A problem during summer.

Review 18:The location is great. The hotel is in the center of town and close to vin route of Alsace. Very clean. The building is great.

Review 19:It was a very hot 37 when we arrived, our room was in the eaves on the second floor, there was no lift. The temperature in the room was 32 and didn't drop all night even with the fan on and windows open. I know you cannot expect aircon in a building of this age but as the hotel did not seem very busy it would have been good to have been given a more appropriate room - perhaps it was down to us to ask rather than the staff to use their judgement. Having carried our cases up 2 flights of stairs we were too hot to go back down and naively assumed it would cool down when the outside temperature dropped.

Review 20:The hotel was full of character and history and well positioned in the town center. The breakfast was good. There was hotel parking for 5 euros or a free car park nearby.

Review 21:We were given a room that was in bad condition. Looks like it wasn't cleaned up and there was dust everywhere. We requested a change and the helpful lady in the reception, gave us another one which was in better condition. The common areas like stairs and corridors was also dirty with dust and spider webs. Tha;s pitty because the building is beaitful and its location is superb.

Review 22:Staff was very helpful and welcoming. Actually we met only one member of the staff who was a pregnant lady, and she was responsible for a lot of things, like the front desk or the serving of the breakfast. Our room was generally in good condition with comfy beds. Breakfast in French standards, not so rich.

Review 23:Nice location, historical building, free parking // Хорошее расположение - центр города, историческое и очень живописное здание. Наличие рядом городской бесплатной стоянки.

Review 24:none

Review 25:Great hotel. We have enjoyed the stay. The town is lovely and people are very friendly. The town resembles a fairy tale town. The Christmas decoration was beautiful The hotel is in the city centre of the old town. There is a public parking near by,which was very convenient.

Review 26:rooms are a little loud, you can hear your neighbour walking arround

Review 27:Le Gouverneur got is a perfect location to get to x-mas market and to have a close by (arround 500m) parking spot

Review 28:Quiet room with good accessibility was not provided as requested even though we booked several months in advance. We had to ask for a receipt (paid cash) as the account wasn't clear enough that it had been paid.

Review 29:We booked several months in advance and requested a quiet room with easy access (in our early 60's) and when we arrived we were given a choice of either a ground floor room named 'Muscat' facing a road or a first floor room which we found had an unpleasant odour (?drains?). As the first floor room was inconvenient with 2 heavy suitcases, although quieter, in view of the unpleasant odour we took the ground floor room. It was a bit noisy from traffic, disturbing our sleep. Bathroom was quite new. The male receptionist was most helpful and assisted us with parking at the back on the motel site (limited parking, 5 Euros per night, worth it for the convenience). Breakfast was reasonable. The timber-framed motel has lots of character externally. It is conveniently located close to the centre of Obernai, restaurants and shops. Ask for a quiet room away from the street.

Review 30:Nothing!

Review 31:This hotel is very well located in the centre of this lovely town, the building is charming, the staff very pleasant and free parking is available just a minute's walk away.

Review 32:The room we stayed was under the roof. It was kind of dark but still OK. Wi-Fi was also not very strong in the room.

Review 33:Very nice atmosphere, staff is very kind, breakfast is quite OK, location is TOP. We enjoyed the hotel very much.

Review 34:The weather (nothing you can do about that)!

Review 35:Courtyard was pretty. Liked the quirky style of rooms off courtyard. Excellent shower and comfy bed. Liked the information talking about how the three friends set up together - gave it a friendly feel.

Review 36:Slight lingering smell of cigarettes in room

Review 37:Peaceful location, yet only a minute to the main square and restaurants and bars. Hotel courtyard is enchanting, the pictures don't do this justice. The room for four was spacious and up to date.

Review 38:This hotel is well placed near the centre of Obernai. My room was on the first floor (no lift), no aircon (but I knew this) and strange decoration.

Review 39:This hotel is well placed near the centre of Obernai. The room was comfortable, with good free wifi, a decent breakfast and the hotel offers private parking for €5 per day. There are many places to eat nearby.

Review 40:The floors in the room were warped and I hit a wall in the middle of the night and broke my glasses.

Review 41:Breakfast was good but should be included in the price.

Review 42:Lovely old half-timbered building with central courtyard and gallery. Rooms were sleek and modern.

Review 43:The staff was very nice and helpful. The old building was beautiful and the small room was clean and modern. Great location to center of town.

Review 44:How each room has a different theme and it's traditional theme in general.

Review 45:Very good location. Private parking extremely useful. Lovely building. All that we needed for an overnight stay.

Review 46:Very creaky floor boards .no good for light sleepers

Review 47:Very friendly staff!

Review 48:room quite small, just a small fan, not much ventilation

Review 49:location and building itself

Review 50:Very hot, no airconditionier

Review 51:location, large and comfortable room

Review 52:parking, location and size of room

Review 53:None

Review 54:Town centre location, easy free parking, unique 16th century building sympathetically renovated and modernised.

Review 55:Location and price

Review 56:Creaky floors - to be expected

Review 57:Very helpful staff

Review 58:Location is very good Rooms are very cute Breakfast is very good Staff is perfect

Review 59:Breakfast so so

Review 60:Location

Review 61:The breakfast could have more selections, like fresh vegetables (tomatos)

Review 62:Nice and helpfull stuff. Close to center of Obernai. Big rooms

Review 63:No coffee or tea in the room, bathroom awkward and small.

Review 64:Location, helpful staff

Review 65:The room we had was spacious and clean and very quiet. A good location

Review 66:Toilet was not cleaned since someone else used it. Disgusting.

Review 67:Big room, secure parking available.

Review 68:Nothing

Review 69:The wonderful courtyard full of flowers and artefacts where you could have a drink or have breakfast. Lovely individual bedrooms - mine was a vibrant green with wonderful frog painting

Review 70:Excellent location, very short distance into the centre of the beautiful village of Obernai. The hotel is a gorgeous old building around a picturesque court yard, but the rooms have all the modern amenities one needs. Parking to load/unload right around the corner, for long term just a short walk away. If we were to make it to this place again, this is where we would stay!

Review 71:Relatively small bathrooms.

Review 72:Lovlely Atmosphere in an ancient courtyard. Quiet place with friendly staff. Inside the town wall, Restaurants within walking distance.

Review 73:Air conditioning would help. No elevators.

Review 74:Beautiful and historic courtyard property that's 700 years old and turned into a fine hotel a few years ago. Built into city wall and residence of town governor. Stone walls and beautiful timber details. Ample room size, nice bathroom, very good and affordable breakfast. In center of architecturally-stunning Renaissance town with many restaurants and shops and sites to walk around without traffic or crowds. Easy drives to Strasbourg, Colmar and other Alsace Wine Route towns.

Review 75:The floors in the room were so squeaky that every time someone walked on them it woke us up. Our room was just as bad....but it was very clean.

Review 76:The hotel has a beautiful courtyard entrance!

Review 77:Pillows too small for my linking, but that's all!

Review 78:The town’s original Gouverneur lived here; central location with stunning courtyard, ramparts on one side, the town on the other. Cosy room, roomy shower and separate WC, free WiFi and free and secure partially-covered garage. Restaurant for buffet breakfast only; many restaurants walking distance in the Old Town. Excellent price for date booked, efficient and friendly service from all staff, well worth the visit. Quiet at night despite room facing main street.

Review 79:Bigger rooms (4) looked a little less charming

Review 80:Nice cosy room for two. Breakfast was fine, a little nosy room but you can sit along the buffet as well.

Review 81:Their breakfast was not my favorite one in Europe. It was ok, but not great.

Review 82:Lovely hotel with nice decorations. Very comfortable room for our family. Smack dab in the middle of the neat old town.

Review 83:Lack of air conditioning could become an issue in the summer. Also, no elevator available.

Review 84:We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in January, 2014. What a lovely surprise: fabulous hotel in a spectacular, historic setting! Le Gouverneur Hotel is a journey through time, this historic home preserving its structure from the sixteenth century. It is a charming hotel, built around a courtyard and housed in an old building built into the Obernai town walls. Great location, easy walks into the town (less than 2 minutes walk away), with a superb choice of restaurants. Located at the foot of Mont Saint-Odile, with its half-timbered houses, its flowery streets, ramparts, towers and vineyards, Obernai is a lovely town which embodies the entire atmosphere of Alsace. Each of the rooms has a name and a theme; we were in the ‘Etoiles a la Cannelle’ room! The interior is fully renovated with quite modern furniture, though. Although the room was quite small we had an anteroom and a decent sized bathroom with a good, powerful shower. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The staff we met was young, and very friendly and willing to help. We liked the town, and would stay here again if we return. Altogether, great value for money and a brilliant choice for a visit to a very pretty Alsace town.

Review 85:Only one hand towel and one bath towel for 2 people Broken shower drain, so only 1 person could shower, and for a very short time

Review 86:comfort of the bed wifi breakfast location quality/price ratio

Review 87:The squeaking parquet floor in our and the adjacent room, which was not really sound proof...

Review 88:The location and free parking are excellent. The hotel looks very romantic, even though the room itself was rather disappointing - very simple with an old fashioned bathroom The breakfast was very fresh and varied.

Review 89:Make dinner reservations for someplace to eat at night, because there aren't many options in this small town.

Review 90:Very uniquely furnished rooms, not generic hotel colors for paint and comforters. They were attentive to our requests for secure parking and particular room arrangements. Good, free Internet.

Review 91:The placement of the bed was dangerous when trying to manoeuver around the alcove to get into or out of bed. Perhaps the bed could be moved away from the alcove to prevent head or shoulder injury.

Review 92:The location of the hotel was superb due to its proximity to the wine route. This hotel had a lovely courtyard.

Review 93:Bathroom was missing a tub, and layout was a little inconvenient

Review 94:Nice old building Good breakfast Good location close to the center of Obernai and Strasbourg

Review 95:The permanent smell of faeces in the room: we complained and the staff just offered to spray against it und made clear that a change would not be possible. Never again.

Review 96:A bar would be nice, but you can purchase drinks from reception and sit in the courtyard.

Review 97:Location of hotel. Quiet. Clean and comfortable - recently redecorated.

Review 98:Parking was free, but not in a secured area; and not directly adjacent to the hotel.

Review 99:Hotel is conveniently located in the center of this very charming town. Easy walking access to cafes, restaurants, and small Alsatian shops.

Review 100:The squeaking parquet in the room.

Review 101:The Hotel is quiet, and breakfast is excellent. The position, in a relaxing country scenery, is ideal to visit Strasbourg by car.

Review 102:Loved this hotel! Charming, historic, very clean, rooms nicely decorated. Comfortable beds. Great location. Good breakfast. Wifi worked well. Nice staff. Will recommend to everyone.

Review 103:Decor may need updating slightly but that is a matter of personal taste.

Review 104:The location is ideal and is very picturesque, being situated in the oldtown. The staff are always very helpful even though I arrived well aftermidnight they had made arrangements for me to access my room even thoughthe reception staff had left by that stage.

Review 105:Obernai is a very small town and when we visited in the end of Februarythere was absolutely nothing going on. We struggled to find a bar wherewe could get a drink before the restaurants opened in the evening andall the vineyards close to Obernai were closed for visitors. It is onlya short drive to Strasbourg though.

Review 106:Value for money! Probably the best value for money in a hotel I haveever been in. The rooms were fairly large and comfortable. We stayed inKugelhopf and there was a separate room with a sofa. Decoration wasmodern and cozy. The breakfast wasn't included in the room price butdidn't cost much extra and was also very good value for money.

Review 107:Airfresheners in toilet and bathroom far too strong! We had to put them outside.

Review 108:Perfect for a couple of days break. Very clean. Historic setting. Surprised it is only a 2-star. Great value for money. Pretty village. Easy drive to Strasbourg.

Review 109:A recommander vivement. Notre chambre était confortable, l'hotêlest bien situé, plein de charme et d'histoire, et l'équipesuper sympa.

Review 110:Nothing to dislike apart from the energy-saving bulbs in the bedroomswhich make it a bit dark in the winter. .

Review 111:Beautiful hotel in a convenient situation from which you can walk to anypart of Obernai. Large car park (free) is immediately to the rear of thehotel and there is direct access to this from the hotel. We stayed 5nights with a group and then stayed a further 5 nights independently. Wewere 3 retired family members together and we can recommend this hotelunreservedly. Pristine condition of rooms 1, 2, 3 and 4 and I am sureothers would be the same. These 4 rooms are on the ground floor (thereis no lift to the upper levels) and they were decorated very tastefully, comfortable beds, modern shower rooms and maintenance everywhereperfect. Good breakfast choices and you can get tea, coffee etc. (smallcharge) during the day on request and take it in the comfortable loungearea. The whole experience was superb in a beautiful setting.

Review 112:good location, very picturesque, old facilities...creaky floors and plumbing
