Reviews for Berry Head Hotel

Review 1:I had single room at the back of the hotel which overlooked the carpark & I could hear the heating system all night! Other than that it was clean & very comfortable.

Review 2:Very friendly & helpful staff, beautiful location. Atttended a private family party in the library with a buffet lunch which was nice.

Review 3:Breakfast was hit and miss. Saturday mornings was lovely, however Sunday mornings was clearly cooked by a different Chef as the food that came out was under cooked.

Review 4:The view across Torbay is stunning from the Berry Head Hotel. The staff are friendly and polite. The hotel whilst a little dated, is clean. We had a Bar snack which was exquisite, lovely & fresh and plentiful.

Review 5:Very small low quality room plus the room was in roof space so 1/3 room unusable. Cheap, tacky and stained furniture and fittings, small LCD TV, minimal sea view. Dirty bed sheets needed changing, TV lost signal, Wi-Fi kept dropping out, lost table booking for evening meal, terrible service, overcooked breakfast etc,. Gave up complaining as everything they did was very poor. Booked for two nights but left after one. Dire hotel not worth even half what their charging.

Review 6:location

Review 7:staff that really seemed to care that I had a good stay. The swimming pool and the view from my bedroom window.Old fashioned Atmosphere but with up to date service, food and drink.

Review 8:Uncomfortable poorly decorated rooms. Lazy Chef who could only manage mash as the potato option with a badly cooked steak and a breakfast swimming in oil.

Review 9:internet connection spasmodic, poor. Only after using shower (room 32) the taps on the wash basin seemed to develop a bit of an airlock and 'spat' the water out, more than once soaking my trousers. Not a major issue but something that could be improved.

Review 10:Nice, smiley staff, delicious, varied and plentiful breakfast

Review 11:Friendly, easy going staff, who could give & take a joke and engage in jovial banter - all under the watchful eye of the owner Decent and reasonably priced real ale in bar. Excellent food - both breakfast & evening meal choice (bar or restaurant). Best views in town Ideal for easy-going guests who don't take themselves too seriously

Review 12:Food overpriced and sometimes not hot. Dining room staff need further training. Please tell them to ensure dirty crockery is cleared between courses but not before both parties have finished eating (as happened)

Review 13:Lovely position overlooking the sea. Bedrooms clean and comfy

Review 14:The beds were too close to the walls as every time someone next door turned over in the night you could hear the beds hitting the skirting board. Rooms were not that sound proof as you could hear most of your neighbours conversation..

Review 15:The location has a fabulous view and the food was excellent.

Review 16:Nothing

Review 17:Staff very polite & helpful, food excellent & menu amazing, pool & jacuzzi lovely, clean room & big ensuite, very comfy bed. Great views & location.

Review 18:Paid for a sea view and got a view of a tree, had to go out of your way to look at the sea. The smell of musty dogs down stairs due to People's dogs in the bar/ restaurant area, doesn't help either when I'm allergic to dogs. Spent my afternoon outside to have a drink in cold conditions to avoid the dogs/allergies, shouldn't this be the other way around!!!. Toilet would not flush in room, had to try a dozen times.

Review 19:The location and history of the hotel. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 20:Because of the age of the hotel there was a musty smell. And I felt misled over my room I thought when booking a garden view I would be looking over a garden not the back of the building and car park. So by rights they should offer Sea view or No view.

Review 21:The room was sold as a family room with a double bed and travel cot but it was very small and very hot with no fan

Review 22:The location of this hotel and the view from the terrace was amazing. The food was also very good.

Review 23:No wifi at all worked in hotel and the heat is so bad we had to leave a night early to go to another hotel it was red hot in room no air condition and window only opened a tiny bit due to such old windows

Review 24:The food was poor portion very small I had a sweet at the ice cream was almost non-existent quite disgusted Staff /Chef Should be more caring towards The customer The only thing to recommend this hotel is the location food not up to scratch

Review 25:The location is very very good views are good

Review 26:Free wifi throughout the hotel should not be advertised if the only place where it could be obtained was the corner of the bar and even then intermittently.

Review 27:The views from the hotel are stunning. The room was small but very comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly

Review 28:Magnificent sea views over Torbay and a big terrace to enjoy them. A comfortable hotel catering for all types with a good selection and quality of food on offer. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 29:Room 12a was said to have a garden view but all we saw was a roof top. At £144 per night we expected more, the room was just about average. Not as good as Premier Inn.

Review 30:Excellent location , lovely view of bay.

Review 31:Did not notice we had asked for twin beds, but instantly rectified and box of chocolates for compensation. Fantastic!

Review 32:Attitude of staff, took every trouble. Views across Torbay. Guest library, swimming pool

Review 33:we were delighted with our stay. staff were extremely friendly and helpful; very welcoming to our dog and our son's 18 month old son. great value for money.

Review 34:Room was on the small side, furniture a bit dated.

Review 35:The sea view was amazing, food in the bistro very good, overall a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere

Review 36:The first night was marred by noises from the adjacent room (somebody banging their head against the wall??) but the second night revealed a faulty radiator thermostat valve that produced such a noisy chattering it woke me twice. On the first morning I had my breakfast and left the room temporarily, out of respect for other guests, to take a mobile call only to find on my return the table had been cleared! The speedy senior waiter had blitzed it too quickly and although his companion offered to get me more this needs looking at. Solo travellers do not have a companion to reserve the table whilst toilet or other breaks are taken.

Review 37:The location & food are very good and overall the staff are very friendly and attentive. The rooms are of a good standard (my 3rd stay) and sea views spectacular.

Review 38:Initial room. Very noisy. Perhaps the pumps for the swimming pool. Was moved with no fuss. I'd avoid room 15. One of their singles.

Review 39:Common areas and view/location

Review 40:Most of the staff simply going through the motions- though I imagine it's difficult to raise your game every day.

Review 41:Stunning setting, reception kindly upgraded me to a double room; had they not, I think it would have been cramped, as I came to work on a book. Nice little pool, hardly used by others, very welcome after days at the keyboard

Review 42:furniture in rooms was dowdy (70s pine) and tired looking as was the general standard of decoration. Really needed a face lift.

Review 43:location was good, staff were friendly and helpful, conference facility was good

Review 44:Nothing really. The bistro decor is a bit drearily generic given what a fabulous location it is, but that's just me fantasising about what I would do if I were the owner!

Review 45:when i arrived off the coastal path, the pool was only open for another 20 minutes. No problem, said the receptionist, I could go in whenever i liked while she was still on duty - another two hours. Nothing could have been more welcome than that pool and spa! Staff all helpful, cheery and friendly, food decent at a pub grub level and filling.

Review 46:Location of hotel; room position which included sea view. Ample breakfast Room size which included comfortable bed and good size bath Friendly staff

Review 47:Residents lounge was very cold even though the gas fire was on full. Free wifi was very slow

Review 48:Very good with our dog, it's great to have a pet friendly hotel with such high standards. Friday night entertainment was first class.

Review 49:The food belongs in a less good hotel. Fix the fishcakes and dump the balsamic glaze you can buy off the shelf in Tesco. The wait staff got by on cheerfulness but were essentially untrained: a couple of days' worth would do it.

Review 50:The location, the willing staff and the fresh fish.

Review 51:Bed covers a bit too tight for a comfy night's sleep.

Review 52:The friendly helpful staff. The excellent brasserie. Wonderful views, especially at sunset. Excellent speedy breakfast service, although busy. Nice pool and relaxing jacuzzi.

Review 53:Our bedroom was small and we could hear every word from next door, right through the night. Bed a bit hard, and the window would not open properly, so rather stuffy.

Review 54:Excellent location, staff friendly and helpful. Food fine.

Review 55:Restaurant staff need direction in as much as each staff needs their own set of tables instead of headless chickens ...

Review 56:Character hotel not modern contemporary. Nice place .balcony rooms best with sea views. Food ok ...

Review 57:A little money needs to be spent on the swimming pool. After a very nicecrab sandwich lunch we were looking forward to our evening meal but thiswas a disappointment, my plaice was very small and very overcooked. Ihad the cheese board, the choice of cheese was poor unless you likesmoked cheese and the grapes were old and mostly bad, should have beenthrown away not served.

Review 58:By far the best thing about this hotel is its stunning location. Staffare friendly and professional. Room was clean and comfortable (exceptthe bed, which unfortunately was not)! Nice sea view. Very pleasantterrace with ample outside seating and extra seating for residents. Hadnice lunch. The location and good points do outweigh the bad as thereare some excellent restaurants on the quay.

Review 59:the food really wasn't great and the furniture in the bedroom had a rather dated feel.

Review 60:location is wonderful with stunning views of the sea. Our room had a lovely new bathroom, very well finished off. Great wine list selection in the restaurant.

Review 61:Put my back out trying to see the promised sea view. Room tiny and cramped and smelled of bleach. Reception staff forgot to tell us to use key to call lift. Chicken at dinner was raw in places but fish excellent. Disappointing stay

Review 62:Food portions were generous

Review 63:The bedroom furniture in room 22 was inadequate for our needs. It was very old and the dressing table stool was falling apart. This room is in desperate need of modernisation in this respect. The tea and coffee making tray took up all the space on the dressing table and there was no other dresser to put my toiletries on. The bathroom was basic and the shower didn't work properly. We would like to come back but I shall be careful which room we get!

Review 64:The location of this hotel is fantastic with breath taking views across Torbay. The hotel sits in an elevated position and the residents lounge is lovely and very comfortable with help yourself coffee after dinner. Lovely to relax and read. Nice touch. The food was very good and the service was excellent and friendly. Our bed was very comfy with crisp white bed linen and lovely white excellent quality towels in the bathroom.

Review 65:Until we informed booking.com the hotel was advertised as having an outdoor pool. This was in fact a public pool about 50 yards away! We stayed in a converted attic room which had a sloping ceiling and small window: it was uncomfortably hot. Service was very slow and our bill when we left was not accurate. Car parking was difficult due to the outside events taking place. The atmosphere was more like a busy pub than an exclusive hotel.

Review 66:The views across the bay were wonderful and the food was very good indeed, even though there was a long wait for it.

Review 67:The bed wasn't that comfortable, service was a little slow, however I understand this is a busy time of year, can't really fault much else

Review 68:I loved the views, all the gardens were maintained to a very high standard. Staff were very friendly nothing was too much trouble very polite and welcoming! We will defiantly come back

Review 69:The weather and the location made for a lovely few days. Close to the coastal path and many places of interest. The staff were very helpful and welcoming.

Review 70:The views from the public rooms, bedrooms and large front terrace and are ideal for watching a summer's sunset and unwinding. The sound of waves washing over rocks adds to the whole ambience. The food in the Bistro was very good.

Review 71:Caught on a busy evening, the evening meal was undercooked and a wrong order delivered (They did give us a refund on that, but charged us for something else we didn't have). Also there were no face flannels in the bathroom.

Review 72:Stunning location and general ambiance excellent

Review 73:nothing

Review 74:The position-the staff-the entertainment and the overall feel of the hotel

Review 75:Very accommodating with working unsociable hours and access to hotel. Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 108:Staff were excellent, really good service. Great location.
