Reviews for Dragon Inn

Review 1:Had a bit of trouble getting a taxi from the station back to the hotel after the game not the hotels fault but the local taxi firms were very unhelpful. Eventually got one but were beginning to think we would have to wait until the first bus at 7 am.

Review 2:We were in Wales for the RWC and loved staying out of the city in a friendly very comfortable hotel.

Review 3:Lovely inn in quiet location off the main road. Very tasteful with nice, modern decor. The food in the restaurant was really excellent. Absolutely first class particularly the lamb and venison steak.

Review 4:Had a standard rom where there was pathetic shower pressure in the bath so unable to wash hair unless you rinsed under the bath tap. When I commented on this to a member of staff was told "You booked a standard room" This is the U.K not somewhere in darkest Africa

Review 5:The family suite is absolutely lovely. Very lovely staff, nothing was too much trouble, food overall was excellent. The children loved it. We will definately recommend.

Review 6:It has a very narrow parking lot. Only skilled drivers or cars with full cover insurance should drive through it. I was quite afraid of getting scratches on my car, but oh well. Everything went well and the parking lot is free :)

Review 7:The Dragon Inn is a quite cute place to stay. I liked the supplementary chocolate and cute furnishing. The bathroom was clean and modern which I really liked.

Review 8:Possibly need to upgrade to keyless entry as I could hear doors being locked and unlocked with the large key fobs clattering around.

Review 9:Great location , revamp excellent , bed amazing, food great.. Nice friendly staff ..

Review 10:We were a family of 5 - two parents and 3 teenagers (13,16,18) and the place was designed perfect for such a composition, including (on top of the standard things such as coffee) a PS3 for the kids and a microwave. Both the hotel and it surrounding is magical.Breakfast was rich with few options and the price was fair! We highly recommend the place.

Review 11:Staff were courteous and helpful and knew what they were doing. The food was excellent, we ate in the hotel one night and the venison I had was moist and succulent, breakfasts were well prepared and presented and tasty. Even though there were some problems with road works outside the hotel (and out of the control of the hotel) a memo detailing what would be happening was put in the room for our information - which was helpful and in any case it caused us minimal problems. Would recommend highly.

Review 12:Sloping ceiling in bathroom made access for bath tricky. Breakfast spoilt by self service coffee which regularly ran out and tea in cups (no teapots) although cooked meal super.

Review 13:Arrived late but warm welcome and provision of table for dinner although restaurant very busy. Food delicious with good wine list and steak night menu terrific value.

Review 14:I only wish we had more time to spend here.

Review 15:The Dragon Inn is a warm and welcoming inn nestled within the picturesque village of Crickhowell at the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Dragon Inn staff is accommodating and the inn is cozy, clean and comfortable. We loved it. The people in Crickhowell are wonderful, the scenery simply breathtaking. Visitors to the Dragon Inn will find ruins of an ancient castle dating to the Norman Invasion within walking distance of their accommodations. There are many places in town (including the Dragon Inn!) to find a great meal or midday snack, a good cup of coffee, fresh fruit and vegetables. Crickhowell is very dog-friendly, and also very art-friendly. And we loved that we could walk to the trail head of a spectacular hike up to Table Mountain. DO IT!

Review 16:No porridge available as the oats order had not come in - but not the end of the world!

Review 17:Good base for a couple days walking in the Brecon Beacons. Very friendly staff.

Review 18:Everything. The staff were great, the family room was beautiful with probably one of the most comfortable hotel beds I had stayed in, with big fluffy feather and down bedding. The personalised Dragon Inn chocolate on the pillows was a lovely touch.

Review 19:We had a superior double room. This was very misleading as we had only a skylight which we could not see out of. The room was small and was backing onto the noisy kitchen which was loud until 11 pm and started again at 6.45 am. We would not book this accommodation again.

Review 20:The restaurant for our evening meal was good.

Review 21:Struggled with entrance to parking area and also internet was intermittent.

Review 22:The room was clean and bright. Well equipped with tv and tea making facilities. Helpful and friendly staff.

Review 23:Quite a bit of noise from the kitchen. We were in the annex right opposite

Review 24:Very good breakfast.A teapot would have been nicer than dunking a teabag in a cup and having to keep getting up for a refill. A minor point i know.

Review 25:Absolutely awful access - we scraped our car as access is incredibly tight for modern cars, about half a centimetre clearance each side. we have a new Mazda 6 and the side got scraped trying to turn in to access the parking area. Blinds in the room let light through the sides, top and bottom, and as the sun came up about 5am we were woken really early by it steaming into the room. Really not very good at all - need curtains or blackout blinds. As a result I doubt we would stay again however we would return to Crickhowell. Breakfast had rock hard black pudding and the kitchen got our order wrong. Quality of ingredients was good, could have done with breakfast being served until 11am not 10am as we were late in the previous night following a wedding and I had to wake the children to ensure we had time to eat.

Review 26:Beb very comfortable and room nicely decorated. Helpful and friendly staff

Review 27:Promised wifi throughout hotel very erratic in our room. Tricky parking down narrow lane. Not much space in room for a superior room

Review 28:Comfortable atmospheric hotel well situated in busy little town Great food .

Review 29:Breakfast only started at 8 am although promised at 7 am on the Pentecost Monday. Wifi was hard to connect to due to business?

Review 30:Dinner and breakfast where very good. Room was fine. Nice location. Friendly staff.

Review 31:Occasionally the restaurant staff seemed over stretched when restaurant was busy which led to service not being as efficient as should have been.

Review 32:Very friendly and helpful staff. Tastefully decorated and furnished rooms. Excellent selection at Breakfast and extensive menu in bar /restaurant. Nice large sunny garden.

Review 33:I do wish there was a curtain around the shower. And a holder on the wall for the shower head. But my friend and I figured it out.

Review 34:The staff was amazingly kind and accommodating. The room quaint and comfortable. The food was delicious.

Review 35:Narrow access to car park

Review 36:Although the bedroom was small, it had been refurbished and had everything I needed. Welcoming and friendly staff Good food

Review 37:Narrow entrance to rear car park. Could be tight if driving a wide vehicle.

Review 38:Good food and varied menu. Congenial atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. Very attractive rear garden. Quiet & nicely maintained.

Review 39:This didn't bother me, but I would imagine some people may not like the narrow access to the large car park.

Review 40:Good location for river walks and Black Mountains. Crickhowell is still a 'proper' country Town. Comfortable - very friendly helpful staff. Good breakfast!

Review 41:Only if being very picky - the car park entrance very small, between 2 stone walls but we still managed to get a large pick up truck in!

Review 42:Lovely fresh cooked food in restaurant, nice décor in rooms, friendly & helpful staff.

Review 43:Wifi wasn't great for me - but my boyfriend didn't seem to have a problem though.

Review 44:The Dragon Inn was a beautiful hotel. The room was great, so comfortable and clean. Location wise it couldn't be better - right on the high street with stunning views. The food was lovely, we did have to wait a bit as the restaurant was busy and I think our waitress was new but the food was well worth the wait. It was also a nice touch that the breakfast was included within the room rate - living in London I am use to paying for everything! Staff were very friendly and helpful. The Dragon Inn was a bit more expensive than we wanted to pay but we're please we spent a little more and had such a lovely time. We would thoroughly recommend The Dragon Inn.

Review 45:- Room rated as "Superior" is the smallest and more uncomfortable room I have ever been. I could say the size of this superior room is not more than 5 m^2 (Bathroom not include). - Bad experience on the shower, where the pressure of the water is insufficient and the temperature changes. - The price is too high for what they offer

Review 46:Shame dogs are only allowed in one area of the pub.

Review 47:Great room for the family and good value. The staff were excellent and very friendly. First class breakfast. Lovely area for walking and mountain biking - we went to Bike Park Wales which was close by.

Review 48:I was thoroughly impressed with the Dragon Inn. I have stayed at a number of dog friendly hotels in the past, and have always found the cleanliness to be somewhat substandard, however the Dragon exceeded my expectations. My room was clean and modern, and the bed was very comfortable.

Review 49:I think the bathroom could be refurbished as it seems quite dated. There were cobwebs in the bathroom which were easily accessible and seen therefore could have been cleaned. Also there were patchy walls which obviously hadn't been painted properly

Review 50:We stayed in room 10 in which the bed was very comfortable. The food, hospitality and atmosphere for the rugby was awesome and we had s really enjoyable time

Review 51:Car park entrance is very tight.

Review 52:Location excellent. Our first walk over the hills was straight from the door. The evening meals were great - far better than your run of the mill pub food and good portions. Nice family room for our very grown up kids.

Review 53:More expensive to book through booking.com than directly with hotel. Only a limited area allowed with dog which was fine unless someone else was sat there!

Review 54:Excellent food. Beautifully cooked and well presented. Staff were very helpful. Lovely, friendly atmosphere in the hotel.

Review 55:The Dragon just gets better every time we stay, the refurbishment has transformed all the rooms, the staff are very efficient, friendly and helpful. We stayed over Christmas, the food was wonderful and the Christmas decorations were delightful.

Review 56:I called on the day to check that someone would be there to check in (Christmas Day) and were told yes, but then later someone else called to ask what time I would check in. In the end, the member of staff decided he would leave the room unlocked with the key on the bed. This worked well, but communication between the staff seemed to be lacking.

Review 57:Nice continental breakfast

Review 58:Very friendly reception, a warm and cosy place to stay in the winter, lovely bar and good food infront of an open fire. Perfect after a day's walking.

Review 59:Small Bedroom so not much room to move around. Poor selection of traditional ales (Doombar & Hancocks).

Review 60:Staff were freindly. Breakfast was nice. Freinds who had gone there for a meal on the previous night to when we booked in said the food was excellent.

Review 61:We had such a wonderful time at this lovely inn. We arrived at dinnertime, quickly dropped off our stuff, and enjoyed a delicious meal at the pub. Although our room was above the pub, we were not the least bit disturbed by pub noise in room on a Friday night. I only wish we had more time to enjoy our stay! I would visit Crickenhowell and the Dragon Inn again.

Review 62:navigating entry into car park! fireplace in lounge with candles for show instead of a real log fire :(

Review 63:clean and comfortable room. friendly staff. lovely breakfast.

Review 64:Difficult to regulate shower temperature - solution is to enjoy a bath!

Review 65:The staff, every single one of them, were cheerful, helpful and attentive. Food was superb and reasonably priced (we had evening meal and breakfast). Room was comfortable with lots of nice welcoming touches. Wifi was good (measured 17Mb).

Review 66:Beds were hard despite looking so beautiful. We had no adjoining room but sound of someone having a shower and dragging the flexi-hose along the plastic holder ring sounded like they were inside the room. We were woken up and went outside to check our room was indeed beside a stairwell. glad showering was the only activity! Chap who signed us in made us wait until 8 to eat despite the fact the dining room was almost empty. Bit puzzling but food worth the wait. Staff friendly but maybe lacking training? Narrowest driveway ever!

Review 67:Food in the restaurant. Location, ambience, suite was well appointed and decorated, view to back park although view was of staff smoking and drinking.

Review 68:Nothing

Review 69:The staff at the dragon inn were the most helpful and considerate I've met .this was a very pleasant weekend food was fantastic a catered for my young son of one to whatever he wanted

Review 70:No complaints of any significance. Beer aficianados would find that there is a very limited choice of draught ale.

Review 71:Great location in a pleasant little country town. Friendly staff. Characterful old building. Good menu, food excellent. Ideal for a relaxed, easy-going long weekend.

Review 72:Access to the hotel car park from the road will test the skills of those driving large vehicles e.g.SUVs.

Review 73:The Dragon Inn's central location meant that all parts of Crickhowell can be reached easily on foot. The staff were helpful and the atmosphere, informal. Breakfast was delicious. In all, an ideal short-stay establishment.

Review 74:The restaurant being cleared and rearranged whilst we were eating our breakfast. Not very relaxing.

Review 75:We booked last minute for the Abergavenny Food Festival. The website warned that only a very small double available. Well there was more than enough room to swing the cat if we had taken it! Plus the bathroom contained a bath!

Review 76:The staff in the resturant in particular one young girl were quite rude and a bit lax. We had to remind her for the drinks whic in itself is not a problem but her attitude suggested she was doing us a huge favour just by turning up to work that day.

Review 77:Rooms were lovely and clean. The bed was really nice. The building is gorgeous and the candles and flowers were a nice touch. The lady that was on check in was really friendly. The food in the restaurant was really good.

Review 78:I would have liked to have plain yogurt available at breakfast to go with the wonderful fresh fruit.

Review 79:The welcome was great; all of the staff were very friendly and efficient. All areas were clean in spite of the refurbishments that were going on. Food was good and plentiful.

Review 80:Some staff indifferent; bathroom mixer tap awkward - could not get temperature right; narrow access to car park - barely managed

Review 81:Clean nice room. good location and surroundings.

Review 82:Room could do with a little renovation (paper coming off wall in bathroom, tap leaked.

Review 83:Quiet location Attractive Hotel Excellent Restaurant Top Quality Service

Review 84:This is a lovely quaint hotel, they've gone the extra mile adding chocolate on pillows, nice smoothies and fruit for breakfast. The only thing that let the place down was the shower. We were in a room upstairs (can't remember number) but the ceiling was sloped in the bathroom. The shower head was on the sloped ceiling and even me being 5ft 1 struggled to stand under for a shower. The shower then trickled with water, not enough pressure. Having said this, we unhooked the shower and managed fine, just it wasn't a nice powerful wake me up shower! I'd still recommend as the location is great, bed comfy, staff friendly, food nice, just could have been a little better with the shower

Review 85:I had a room above the kitchen and it was noisy - both late at night and before 6 in the morning. It was hot (and there was a winter duvet on the bed) so I had to have the windows open. Luckily I had ear plugs.

Review 86:The food was fabulous and the drinks very good value, compared with the hotel down the road. It is in a great location and the bar and restaurant facilities very good. A nice garden space too. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 87:We could hear the person in the next room snoring really loudly ! Entrance to car park really tight squeeze - thank god hubby driving !!

Review 88:We stayed in the Annexe - Room 16 fab room and extremely comfy bed - shame about the snorer next door !! Peronni served in the bar - breakfast was good all lovely local produce - will definitely stay here again .

Review 89:we didn't sleep a wink as there was a party underneath our room in the bar which continued till 3:15 a.m as we were travelling onward first thing in the morning this was most unwelcome

Review 90:location was very good as we travelled with pets , the room was spotless and comfy and the inclusive breakfast was lovely

Review 91:The room was a little small but was fine for our one night

Review 92:Renovated room, central location, gorgeous town & country, good food & drink, excellent service, quality hotel, great to watch well managed super- efficient staff

Review 93:Smells from kitchen wafting up to bedroom. Also rather noisy late at night whilst clearing up being done. However,I cannot see how that could be easily resolved.

Review 94:Very attentive and sociable Manager. Attractive decor both in rooms and bar areas. Excellent breakfast-interesting choices. Very good value.

Review 95:Nothing but note this is an Inn not a fully-equipped hotel, so no pool, fitness centre, etc. That suits me. And beware the car park entrance if you're driving a large car - mine had 3 inches either side of the wing mirrors - and you need to pull over to the far side of the road to get the angle right (tricky if someone is parked there when you may have to do a little shuffle to line up.) Take your time, you're in Wales.

Review 96:Friendly.Comfy. Right in the middle of this beautiful town - You can happily spend a few days walking without using the car (which may be useful...) Minor problems sorted immediately with good grace and no quibble. Excellent food; much better than you'd expect for an Inn. There are many excellent hotels and restaurants in Crickhowell; the Dragon stands comparison with any of them. Thank you.

Review 97:Room too small. Minimal gap around double bed. A single bed would have been adequate. Staff were not unfriendly but their was no personality to them or the inn

Review 98:Location. Good location for walking the surrounding hills 'Sugar Loaf' and 'Table'

Review 99:Ensuite bathroom was a bit of a shocker - very outdated, low ceiling, loads of exposed pipes. Noisy in the courtyard in the morning ; I suspect this was the staff being over-enthusiastic about the start of the day

Review 100:Food was truly excellent. Staff were willing, friendly and helpful, although occasionally 'scatty'. Bedroom was comfy and well appointed.

Review 101:The room was at the very top of the building and had very low ceilings which was a problem in the bathroom as you had to hunch over in the shower. Water pressure was also very bad in the shower.

Review 102:I really liked the Dragon Inn, it was very homely and comfortable especially the bed! It was the best sleep I'd had in ages. Breakfast was great too.

Review 103:The only difficulty was initially getting in after hours. Contact numbers are provided and staff is available during the hours set (live in management I believe). As it is a working pub during daytime hours there was no message to guests posted on the door to inform us to go around the back, and the back was poorly lit to guide us to the evening entrance. After this difficulty, perfection!

Review 104:Everything, the hotel was phenomenal value for money. The staff were excellent and very helpful. Room size and cleanliness were exemplary!

Review 105:Our bathroom needed some love and attention which will hopefully be done in the hotel renovations.

Review 106:We loved the location of the hotel, we came for a couple of days waterfall walking. The hotel is being renovated gradually and what has been done so far is excellent. Our room was lovely and cosy, set in the eaves at the front of the hotel, the bed was very comfortable. The courtyard and gardens were also lovely, we were able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. We had some very nice breakfasts and a delicious evening meal, which i'd recommend. The staff were very friendly and helpful which was nice.

Review 107:We didn't have one of the recently refurbished rooms so our stay was less comfortable than it could have been. Also made it seem very expensive for the standard of room that we were in.

Review 108:We ate there in the evening and the food was very good.

Review 109:We really appreciated the modern, quality upgrading of the hotel. Staff were welcoming and accommodating. Breakfast was very good and very excitingly for me I was served with a proper high quality Latte with no fuss. We slept really well and the room we had was very quiet and spacious.

Review 110:Wi fi not functioning - probably because too busy. Small car park so no room in it - but not much they can do about that.

Review 111:friendly and good value with reasonably good food. particularly good wine by the glass. Very helpful manager.

Review 112:Lovely location we felt like we were on holiday even though we were only breaking up the traveling on a work trip. Would have enjoyed more than a night there.

Review 113:We were given a poor room initially (tatty, curtains didn't work and low beam was awkward) and had to complain in order to get a good room

Review 114:Good location. friendly staff and good food

Review 115:1st problem - no cold water pressure in the shower so only options were scolding hot shower or bath- not a big issue at the time. Next on Sunday morning we went down to breakfast just before 9.30 waited to be seated and was then told the chef stopped serving at 9.30 and we couldn't get a hot breakfast - not happy at all. Then a problem with the booking as we originally booked a standard double room but was upgraded for some reason to a superior double at a higher rate. This also happened to other guests who were checking out in front of us. We seemed to have resolved the issue and paid the rate originally quoted but then found out later that my parents had pre paid for the room as a surprise. We had to then go back and sort out a refund as the room had been paid for twice and the staff didn't really seem to know what was going on. It is a shame we has these problems because the hotel is very nice

Review 116:We arrived late on a Friday and were meeting friends there. They ordered food for us and the staff kept it warm until we arrived as the kitchen had closed which was really good of them. Nice hotel and surroundings.

Review 117:Brekkie a bit low quality

Review 118:Lovely recently refurbished family room with comfortable beds, modern bathroom, sofa, tv, kitchenette located in a beautiful part of the world.

Review 119:Absolutely nothing! It was all perfect

Review 120:We had an excellent lunch the day of our stay - it was simple and delicious. Breakfast was the best I have ever had in a hotel - smoothies, fresh fruit, an extraordinary array of lovely yogurts and a wonderful Glamorgan sausages (which are vegetarian so even better). Our room was very comfortable. Especially good were the duvets - possibly goosedown - and very welcome when we came in chilled and damp. Although in the middle of Crickhowell, the road outside was quiet. Highly recommended.

Review 121:WiFi spotty in room, but worked fine in main building.

Review 122:Beautiful setting with friendly staff. Good pub food dinner. Cute, classic old building. Wish we had stayed longer - just there for one night - looks like some stunning country treks to be had.

Review 123:I had to go home!

Review 124:Everything! A great place to stay. Great staff. great food, comfy room and very clean. Lovely atmosphere, and dog and child friendly.

Review 125:My room was in the roof and very poor. I Could not stand up to ____ or stand in the bath for a shower. Also a dreadful noise from the toilet. My recommendation to others would carry a warning re the room.in the roof. Is it just this one ?

Review 126:Downstairs restaurant / Bar and Garden very good. Staff were excellent and Breakfast and dinner were both above average.

Review 127:the room was on the top floor, in the attic. the bathroom had no windows and the extract fan was not working. the toilet bowl was not clean and there was hair on the shelf above the sink. Only one toilet roll and small bar of soap were provided. It looked as if the room had not been painted for several years. Access to the car park was extremely narrow.

Review 128:location and meal in restaurant. the rear garden was extremely pleasant.

Review 129:Noise from kitchen early in the morning preparing breakfast (it was hot so all the windows were open and our room was facing opposite inside the courtyard)

Review 130:Breakfast and food (dinner) was excellent. Friendly staff. Lovely views from the back garden. Very central location in village.

Review 131:Nothing, oh maybe the very tight entrance to car park for my range rover but obviously you can't change that

Review 132:Absolutely everything can't recommend enough.

Review 133:Waterpressure of the shower (room 9).

Review 134:A nice stop for some days Crickhowel and discover the blackmontains. Friendly staff, good breakfast, good restaurant, nice, spacious garden No problems parking the car

Review 135:Plumbing in the en suite bathroom was a little wonky, but that should be rectified soon.

Review 136:The staff impressed us a team, dedicated to providing quality service and excellent meals. Pedro did his best to provide us with a room closer to street level, as my wife had developed knee problems while on holiday. He did, although it apeared to be one of the rooms not yet redone. Still, we were grateful and were made comfortable! The Dragon Inn is a work in progress, and their efforts are succeeding admirably, both in hospitality and in fine dining. Well worth a visit!
