Reviews for Gliffaes Country House Hotel

Review 1:Nothing!

Review 2:Excellent location right next to a river and a huge private area perfect for relaxation Excellent staff Excellent Restaurant One of the rare finds. I regret that we couldn't stay longer. We will definitely come back

Review 3:This is a superb hotel, beautifully located in the Usk valley, with a delightful mature garden and arboretum. There great wildlife on the river - dippers galore, kingfishers and goosander. The food, service and comfort are all top class. I can't recommend it more highly.

Review 4:No hand shower in bathroom to wash hair in bath. Drawers in room cupboards impractical and useless to use. Nowhere to put folded clothes and undies! Wifi and tv signal not good.

Review 5:Gliffaes is a lovely hotel. Staff friendly and helpful. Comfy bed, everything you need in rooms I.e hairdryer etc. Food in restaurant excellent as was breakfast. Grounds around hotel are great to explore.

Review 6:Really upset that we didn't get the room we had booked and the staff just didn't care. We were put out in the cottages near the hotel which is certainly not what we expected. On departure, reception staff were unfriendly and bordering on rude.

Review 7:Location, atmosphere and the food has improved

Review 8:King size bed in a small double! Lack of nonslip mat in bath. Very low chairs in the bar especially for us Oldies!

Review 9:Staff ,very friendly & helpful. Dining room environment excellent. Peaceful. Wonderful woodland.

Review 10:Although we really enjoyed our evening meal, £89 including a bottle of wine was a little expensive. the bed was very soft so an uncomfortable nights sleep.

Review 11:The staff had been very kind helpful they do the Hotel proud.

Review 12:The wifi was very hit and miss but that is understandable given the location.

Review 13:The staff were wonderful, our room was lovely, very comfortable. The surroundings are fabulous, excellent for walking or just sitting on the terrace and taking in the amazing view. We loved it.

Review 14:where do we start! The bed was like a marshmallow, the hot tap when turned on was like a drill in the room and the shower was the height for an 8 year old and after one shower the hot water ran out.

Review 15:Location was lovely with river and gardens. The conservatory was pleasant too.

Review 16:Our stay at the Gliffaes Country House was wonderful! Great location as it is close to Crickhowell and not far from Brecon. The setting was absolutely beautiful, the bedroom was very nice and comfortable, the staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly, they have a great bar service and fine food (I mean really excellent good!). Everything was perfect! They even have a dedicated bike shed! The Japanese Maple tree is truly special and we had lots of fun riding their tandem around the grounds. Highly recommended

Review 17:Boyfriend and I fell off the bed as it was so small but we knew it would be as per the room description! Dinner was poussin though i could only get 2 tablespoon sizes of meat off the bone which for £20 was nothing!

Review 18:The most amazing Romantic get away! It was so sunny when we went and we had a wonderful stroll through the large, impeccably kept gardens. We played tennis next to chickens and pheasants and watched cows grazing. Only 30 mins from brecon beacons. Laura Ashley curtains and bedding (my favourite)

Review 19:Deliberately chose a small room (two nights only), but it was a bit too small. One thing - obviously we had to find somewhere to put the 8 decorative pillows from the bed, and with the lack of space that was problem. We did discover water leaking into the cupboard, but readily accepted faults will occur - reported.

Review 20:We were very well looked after. The gardens - especially the trees - were amazing

Review 21:Nothing to write.

Review 22:Location, service, room. Cannot fault anything. My wife's birthday treat, a complimentary bottle of prosecco from the hotel, lovely gesture.

Review 23:Loved everything. Would go again at the drop of a hat.

Review 24:The position, the countryside, the fact that the hotel is placed adjacent to a free running river which can be fished and fish caught. We were there just before full spring and the flowers of the countryside were awesome. Daffodils in all varieties added colour to the area and what's more blue bells, not quite in full bloom were to be seen bowing along the banks of the river. A truly wonderful stay in a purely wonderful place.

Review 25:We had a wonderful stay. Attentive staff, great food and close enough to get into the local village easily to watch the international rugby in a great pub. Some of the other guests seemed a little stuffy, but the hotel staff themselves were nothing but friendly and professional.

Review 26:The hotel had a relaxed atmosphere while still providing the service expected. Staff were friendly and efficient and the rooms were comfortable and full of character.

Review 27:My only complaint was the food was too 'gourmet' for my tastes, in a country house I would have been happier with homely traditional food, but this is just my taste and it did not take away much from the enjoyment of the trip.

Review 28:Beautiful grounds and building, friendly helpful staff who aren't too busy to chat. I like the swan analogy, all the effort going on is invisible. Would definitely return.

Review 29:Fabulous meal in the drawing room where we were looked after very well by the hotel staff. Food, wine and service was excellent! Thanks v much. We will be back again I'm certain!

Review 30:Nothing

Review 31:We loved the location a real escape from everything. The room was really nice. Comfy and cosy. Breakfast was really good quality. Staff very helpful. A real treat and we will revisit for sure.

Review 32:Breakfast served on cold plates. Person serving food seemed bad tempered. Morning bathwater didn't come on until late and had a brown stain to it. Dingy atmosphere to building as a whole.

Review 33:Receptionist seemed friendly

Review 34:we requested a quiet room and at first were put in a room overlooking the courtyard which is in fact a parking lot in front of the hotel. It (the room) was located above the kitchen and was therefore noisy. After one night the staff arranged to move us to a quieter room.

Review 35:location, grounds and staff professionalism was excellent. The restaurant was extremely good.

Review 36:The plumbing, which had a mind of its own.

Review 37:Wonderfully peaceful 'country estate' setting with mature gardens and grounds to wander in. Friendly, helpful staff who were pleasantly unobtrusive. A extremely comfortable, quality hotel without any of the overdone fuss and bling associated with a lot 'exclusive' hotels.

Review 38:The telephone signal is intermittent but as long as you do not intend to remain fully connected to work (why would you ? ) it is fine.

Review 39:The Gliffaes is wonderfully positioned for immediate access to beautiful countryside. Staff are friendly. The Hotel offers good dining and is comfortable enough. The views from the room used for breakfast were worth the cost alone !We had no complaints. What's not to like ?

Review 40:We were allocated the room with disabled access on the ground floor of the cottages which felt a little overlooked despite being comfy. The bathroom plumbing was very noisy!

Review 41:Very helpful staff and great food. Make use of the billiards table, which is hidden away behind the kitchens!

Review 42:A shower whose temperature varied without warning and as a couple of 'oldies' the staircase.

Review 43:The location, ambience, and food. Extremely comfortable bed.

Review 44:The man in the room next to us, he was up all night and the bathroom was back to back with ours. Not the fault of the hotel.

Review 45:Comfortable country house. Excellent ambience and warm friendly staff. It could not have been any better. The grounds are delightful and the weather for us was a bonus.

Review 46:The service is excellent! Very well trained staff with first-class service level. The place is very nice and elegant, wonderful view from its terrace where you can have breakfast or tea. We strongly recommend the restaurant, really good both for dinner and breakfast!

Review 47:We really could not find a fault. Charming owners and all staff very helpful, excellent dinner and splendid breakfast, very comfortable room and double bed, good shower etc. We will certainly return, fearing our next visit could not be so good!!

Review 48:The room tariffs and the dining costs are a bit high (but there are fine restaurants in the nearby villages).

Review 49:The hotel grounds as such are an adventure. The location is wonderful. The hotel offers many spots to relax. The general atmosphere is truly that of a grand country house.

Review 50:room was a little too small although thoughtfully furnished.

Review 51:such a pleasant surprise to find a truly professionally run hotel tucked away in rural Wales. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The quality of the food was outstanding with lots of locally sourced dishes on the menu.

Review 52:Windows of our room were filthy and made the view not as pleasant.

Review 53:Lovely location, comfortable surroundings, very nice room. Really pleasant and a feeling of great comfort.

Review 54:Inflexibility of reception staff to accomodate very minor requests that were feasible.. or maybe it was shortsighted policy.

Review 55:The serving staff were very pleasing and willing. the tranquility

Review 56:Perfectly located for exploring the Brecon Beacons, the hotel is wonderfully quiet, beautifully nestled in its very well maintainned grounds. The formal rooms, conservatory and terrace are all anbsolutely delightful, and the beds supremely comfy. The staff attended to every small request with great charm. Breakfasts were delicious, with impressive attention to detail. It was a truly lovely 3 night stay. I'll be wishing I can return.
