Reviews for La Dime de Giverny - Chambres d'hôtes
Review 1:Great to be close to the Monet House and garden, but just tucked away enough to be very peaceful. We could leave the car next to the room and enjoy the village. La Dime has tremendous character, glad we had two nights. Really helpful and friendly hosts giving very useful pointers, and excellent breakfast.
Review 2:The setting is minimalistic, therefor it could be a very cool look. Be aware that there is no tv, radio or other entertainment. Wifi only is pubic space.
Review 3:The Village Giverny is beautifull
Review 4:Poor welcome, no TV and no provision for those like us had to leave early eg. breakfast or a friendly goodby at 7.30 am.
Review 5:Proximity to Claude Monet House and Gardens.
Review 6:a few more stairs for comfort for the mobility challenged but they tried well to accommodate me
Review 7:Probably the moat beautiful place I have ever stayed. Fantastic atmosphere, very peaceful & stunning decor. 13th century, extremely well restored & so, so beautiful. A wedding was taking place the next day - I couldn't imagine a more perfect place
Review 8:The shower tray was very shallow and water went everywhere but the water was hot and everything was very clean.
Review 9:Hosts were welcoming and very courteous. The breakfast was delicious with fresh juice, coffee and croissants. The property was truly beautiful. Very simply decorated but with taste.
Review 10:No WiFi in the rooms but to be expected due to age and construction of the building. Would have like a bureau in our room.
Review 11:Beautifully restored structure! Wonderful breakfasts with local cheeses, breads, and homemade apple sauce among other treats. Peaceful respite from two busy weeks in London and Paris. Our host and hostesses were warm and accomodating and she had plenty of suggestions for local restaurants and excursions, walks, etc. Truly exceptional!
Review 12:Nothing. All was done well, beautifully and with grace.
Review 13:Ambience and setting and convenience were absolutely 10+. Homey, and we were made to feel so very welcome by the owners. Breakfast (including the view) opened each day like a re-creation.
Review 14:The space is absolutely gorgeous. It was very cool and unique and very well maintained. The hosts were very friendly and their kids were well behaved and did not detract from the stay at all. Also, the breakfast was delicious, probably the best croissant I've ever had (we also stayed in Paris on this trip).
Review 15:A Gem...Husband and wife team should have a design firm..Excellent eye and taste for mixing a 13th century structure with beautiful modern aesthetics!!
Review 16:We sorely missed the facility to make a cup of tea or coffee in ourroom. No hanging space - far too minimalist for that! No clothes hangerseither, which would have been handy even without a wardrobe. Thosepoints are small ones, but what did seem to be missing, was a confidencein the accommodation's procedures, such as telling guests uponarrival the time of breakfast, reminding them of the checkout times androutines etc.etc. I see that there have been some less than favourablereviews of this accommodation and I think that the owners need to go andstay in a really well run place in order to study the successfulgestures and habits that make guests feel truly valued and welcome. IfI'm honest, at times we felt just a little like an inconvenience, especially to the lady of the house.
Review 17:The renovation and styling of the property is stunning but only if youlike absolute minimalism. We do. Laurent the host is charming, but as weengaged him in as much depth as we were able (given the languagebarrier) on the subject of the property obviously, he responded in ananimated fashion. The location of the property in the village is superband Laurent's restaurant recommendation was spot on. Very French. The church/cemetery is a must see. Moving and interesting in equalmeasure. Newly into gardening, we found Monet's Garden not exactlyto our taste and couldn't help wondering whether it reallyrepresented the garden that he created all those years ago. It justseemed to be missing the spark of true genius despite its amazingabundance.
Review 18:The bathtub is almost impossible to use, at least for people my age (70) - it would be much better to have a large walk-in shower.
Review 19:Wonderful 13th-14th century building just minutes from Giverny, and very quiet. The hosts are well-informed and helpful, the breakfast really excellent.
Review 20:Nothing except that the gorgeous granite shower tray and basin in the bathroom is very shallow, and we worried about potential overflowing showers and taps.
Review 21:Characterful B&B with quirky decorations. Nice breakfast room.
Review 22:The owner was very friendly and warm and over a lot of information about the area and suggestions about where to eat and where to go. The location itself is a 15-16th century stone mansion with its own garden and courtyard.. It was beautiful and also was just a 10 minute walk from Giverny.
Review 23:Nothing, for the cost everything was as it should have been.
Review 24:Rustic charm, good clean facilities, good parking and walking distance to Monet's garden. Very personable owner.
Review 25:Could have done with a shower and a wardrobe.
Review 26:Beautiful building in beautiful location very close to Money's garden and several excellent restaurants.
Review 27:Very friendly and welcoming hosts, also very helpful before we arrived. Beautiful property in a very peaceful setting. Charming building and bedroom. Very comfortable bed - a very good night's sleep. Free wifi good, but would be good if it reached the bedrooms. Otherwise wonderful and would recommend.
Review 28:I struggle to name one bad thing about this delightful inn, but my husband did mention that there was only a bathtub with showerhead attachment, meaning you have to sit in the tub to wash your hair. I thought it was quaint, but it might be inconvenient for the very tall or for those staying for an extended period.
Review 29:What a charming and well-appointed inn! The building is immaculately restored and gorgeous. The breakfast was delicious and served in a lovely loft overlooking the garden. The staff were incredibly kind and accommodating, especially the owner. Upon hearing we intended to take a taxi to the bus stop in Vernon she said "I'd be happy to call you one, but there really aren't many around here and you might not be sure of getting one in time. But my sister and I are running some errands in town, we can drive you." Incredible. What an enjoyable and affordable stay! Can't recommend it highly enough!
Review 30:The owner/manager was very welcoming and attentive to our needs. I sprained my ankle on arrival and she generously offered ice for my ankle each day. It was thoroughly relaxing.
Review 31:Undecorated room, uncaring owners. Price was higher than other, better places, in the area. This place needs a lot of work and a price reduction to become competitive.
Review 32:Breakfast in the loft
Review 33:Was not welcome properly at arrival. Nobody in the place when I arrived at 2:30 pm. I had to call the owner to come and wait 15 mn. Would have expected better arrival.
Review 34:Nice house, beautifully restored in a big property. It was quiet and pleasant. The suite called "family suite" was eventually quite small for a suite, confortable but basically furnished.
Review 35:No bad experiences. It would be nice if the wifi was available in rooms, but that is a very minor point. Plus, it will be nice when they have the pool for swimming in summer!
Review 36:A true oasis. We felt so at home here. A couple of minutes walk to the village, yet very peaceful country feel. Owners are incredibly caring, yet they don't intrude. Breakfast delicious. Wonderful.
Review 37:Conversion of 11th Century Rectory into lounge/event room with breakfast loft. Beautifully restored. charming room/suite w great modern bath. Accommodating host family. Superb location, just a short walk to the gardens, museum of impressionists and shuttle to Vernon for train connections.
Review 38:Loved the old, historic aspect but it was updated enough to be comfortable. The owners were delightful and very helpful. The town of Giverny is more delightful than expected and Monet's gardens awesome.
Review 39:Maybe a little pricey No wi-fi offered, though this wasn't a big issue for a 1-night stay Staff forgot to give us the pin number to get back in the property once the gates were locked. We had to knock on windows to attract attention
Review 40:Large room Comfortable bed Excellent breakfast Great location
Review 41:Wifi only in main lounge because of the limitations of it being a 13th century building designed without wifi. Not a problem though
Review 42:beautifully restored 13th century building, tastefully appointed, friendly and helpful staff. Easy walk to Monet's gardens. Off street parking.
Review 43:None.
Review 44:Always have we dreamed of having a 13th-16th stone home. La Dime is all stone from around this period. It is magnificent. Grounds are beautiful.
Review 45:A beautiful old building, full of character and stylish decor. It is in a quiet location, yet an easy walk to Monet's garden. Delightful hosts who were most welcoming.
Review 46:Lack of English by host and didn't introduce herself. We were there two nights and didn't know her name but know all the guests.
Review 47:The accomodation was great and locatin close to everything Giverny has to offer, which isn't alot but a great place to visit.
Review 48:Quiet atmosphere, lovely old house, gracious hosts, good breakfast. They were very helpful to us in answering our questions about restaurants and other things.
Review 49:No problems at all.
Review 50:Easy walking distance to rue Claude Monet, very quiet and peaceful, beautifully restored bed and breakfast. Our hosts were very welcoming and happy to help in any way. Delicious breakfast with many home made items.
Review 51:Would have liked shower - not just one that was over the free standing bath.
Review 52:Great to be able to help yourself to free tea and coffee. Lovely people that run it.
Review 53:Poor wifi connection
Review 54:I enjoyed the atmosphere and ambiance of the 800 year old lodging.mthe decor was fantastic, the room large and very comfortable , and the bathroom was amazing. The breakfast was great and the staff superb.
Review 55:We were overcharged by 5 euros and we had to pay up front. The shower was scalding hot and didn't work terribly well nor drain properly.
Review 56:A rustic gem in a stunning location and the breakfast was amazing!
Review 57:Not enough places to put things in the bedroom and bathroom. The room needs more shelves and hanging space for clothes. Very poor arrangement for switching off the lights from the bed.
Review 58:Its proximity to Monet's garden
Review 59:The rooms are individual in style and all the facilities available are to a high standard. The beds are very comfortable. The bathroom facilities are modern and good. Most people seem to stay overnight. If you are staying for more than one overnight, you may find that there is a shortage of places to store clothes e.g wardrobes or drawers. The information on booking referred to a wardrobe but there was no wardrobe. Just an observation - not a serious criticism.
Review 60:The location and the standard of the fairly recent renovation of this monastic farm is superb. The hosts are charming and forthcoming with helpful suggestions to enhance your stay.
Review 61:People with mobility problems might find walking up the steep hill to Rue Claude Monet (to visit Giverny) uncomfortable - although this was not an issue for us.
Review 62:Lovely ancient property, sympathetically developed, with very friendly and helpful owners. The breakfast was superb.
Review 63:First room we were offered had a window onto the street and unsatisfactory blind that gave no,privacy and made room depressing. They had better rooms which we felt we should have been given without having to ask
Review 64:Lovely ambience and building
Review 65:The property might prove a challenge for visitors with a disability. Also, the quaint old key for the bedroom door was difficult to use in the lock - we had to factor in a few extra minutes whenever we left the hotel to allow time to lock the bedroom! But it was worth it.
Review 66:La Dime is very well-located for Monet's Garden but it is worth a stay for its own sake. A stunning building with a lovely atmosphere, it has very comfortable beds and serves one of the nicest breakfasts you could wish for! The owners are friendly and helpful. I would recommend La Dime and hope to stay there again.
Review 67:Nothing to mention that wasn't perfect.
Review 68:Location is awesome, ambience was warm and welcoming, and the staff was kind and genuine. I would recommend anyone stay here if possible
Review 69:We loved the personalized attention from every family member and the unique history of the property. It was well located and easily accessible from the bus terminal and a lovely country stroll from Monet's Garden and the attractions of Givernay.
Review 70:Minimal restaurant option(s)nearby.
Review 71:Our goal was to visit Monet's gardens so this was a good choice. A memorable experience to stay in an OLD farmhouse with original timbers and historical ambience. Easy walking to Monet gardens and very small village. Delightful breakfast and hostess eager to please.
Review 72:The bath had kind of a shower but not. The place felt too rustic for our tastes. There were no chairs or table to put things on and the Wi-fi barely worked in the room.
Review 73:The closeness to the town of Giverney. The ability to walk to everything around the city.
Review 74:Nothing.
Review 75:An imaginative stylish hotel - modern rustic elegant and very chic decor throughout. We loved the courtyard space as we were welcomed to the property. Our room which was so interesting and complemented the scheme of the hotel very well. The breakfast room was stunning in the morning with the large windows allowing light to stream in. Truly beautiful, we wished we could have stayed longer.
Review 76:Not much to dislike at all, perhaps a coffee maker for guests use would be a welcome addition.
Review 77:The old house, just lovely, the host was so helpful getting up extra early to serve us breakfast as we had to leave very early. The house is located in the village and it is easy walking to Monets garden. Be sure to visit the local church. Monet and his family are buried here as well as some Commonwealth war graves.
Review 78:Poor lighting in room; no outer lock on door (could not lock door when going out.)
Review 79:Proprietress was very hospitable & helpful. Very good breakfast. Excellent location for visiting Giverny & Monet's Garden, etc. Very rustic, but comfortable w/modern bathroom.
Review 80:A bit of a sewer smell in the bathroom. (old pipes?)
Review 81:The host and hostess were very warm, friendly and welcoming. They made us feel at home. Their home is charming.
Review 82:Leaving and staying just for a night!
Review 83:Everything! The old house, location ~just a few walks to Monet's house, breakfast was excellent, my first taste of Normandy cider at the garden served by the owner Laurrent, my room and the bathroom just like from the old movies--- oh, I want to go back and stay longer!
Review 84:would have liked tea facilities in our room had we been staying longer!
Review 85:the village setting, the road and the beautiful house with some history. the owner was friendly, helpful and accommodating. perfect 'french' breakfast.
Review 86:This was the best B and B we stayed at on our vacation in France. The proprietor and his wife are wonderful and we wish them well on their new venture at this lovely location.
Review 87:Nothing - though it would have been good to have water and 2 glasses in the room.
Review 88:A warm welcome and most helpful hostess. A beautiful refurbished farmhouse. Lovely breakfast. A glass of local cider on arrival.
Review 89:Nothing I didn't like.
Review 90:Breakfasts at this family owned B&B were delicious. Tables are individually laid with butter and preserves nicely presented each in its own small dish or pot. No packaging to be seen. Plates with 5 or 6 varieties of bread plus croissants and pastries on each table.
Review 91:Nothing
Review 92:Semi rural setting & gorgeous restored 13thC building made this B&B very special. The common sitting room was stunning, & a complimentary glass of local cider whilst lounging on deck chairs in the garden was a wonderful pre dinner interlude. The breakfast was exceptional & attention to detail with decor & presentation was a joy. Our hosts were charming & helpful. The local hotel they recommended was a perfect dinner location & it was a 5 minute walk the next morning to reach Monets Garden at opening! Wish we had stayed longer! Free parking also a bonus.
Review 93:fresh fruit for breakfast? being very picky -otherwise faultless!
Review 94:We arrived quite late from Paris the greeting was warm and friendly couldn't have been nicer. We were stunned by this beautiful place. Its all simple and traditional but with really modern details of the highest taste level. It was a lovely evening (weather)which made it magical. Clean and quiet too always important and great value for money. A short walk (10 minutes) to Monets Garden. We all loved it.
Review 95:I loved the greeting we received on arrival. Best breakfast ever. Fabulous building. Generous hosts who drove my friend and I to the railway station in Vernon despite the inconvenience of time to them. Great rooms lovely bath
Review 96:The owners were charming, and the place is just beautiful, with a lovely atmosphere. My family had a wonderful time at La Dime de Giverny, and we would certainly return. Highly recommended.
Review 97:Our hosts were very welcoming. We enjoyed the bottle of cider they offered us before we left for the restaurant. It would be hard to find a better breakfast they served in a very attractive setting. The Dime de Giverny is well situated.
Review 98:Bathroom facilities can be a little awkward - sitting in the bathtub to shower isn't the easiest thing to do.
Review 99:Clean and modernized - lovely decor. Hosts were helpful in English, and breakfast supplied was very satisfying. Great location in Giverny - not that anything is far to walk to in Giverny.
Review 100:Loved the French experience, the family, the feeling you were in the country but you were close to everything, the French breakfast looking over the fields, the afternoon cider, champagne and cheese and fruit plate in an ancient courtyard.
Review 101:Beautiful buildings surround the courtyard exquisitely and sensitively restored combining the very old with the very new. Delightful hosts who went beyond the normal service to make us welcome and comfortable. Only ten minutes interesting walk from Monet's house and garden.
Review 102:That we couldn't stay longer!
Review 103:My daughter and I were staying in Paris for 2 wks. We went to Giverny because it was only an hour outside Paris and to see Monet's gardens. I found La Dime and it was a beautiful respite much needed.
Review 104:No wi-fi in the room
Review 105:Modern hotel in historical building , friendly and helpful owners, easy access and parking . Very quiet place , 10 minutes walk to Monet gardens
Review 106:During our stay at La Dime the owners Laurent and his Family were so friendly and made us feel very special! With their help and with the Beautifully romantic and relaxed setting of La Dime, I was able to create the perfect moment for my Proposal to my Girlfriend! The best place I have ever stayed at for so many reasons. Thank you so much.
Review 107:this place is beautifully presented and is stylish without being at all stuffy. The hosts were welcoming helpful and friendly and the room facilities and shared spaces were clean and comfortable and warm. If you want somewhere walking distance from Monets Garden (and it really is an easy walk) then this is perfect.
Review 108:Nothing!
Review 109:The beautyful restauration of this very very old house and the combination of modern touch to the old wooden interior. The owners were very nice and caring!
Review 110:There was not anything to dislike
Review 111:The very old farmhouse complex(many hundreds of years old) has been restored with great empathy retaining original features as much as possible since the owners acquired the property in November 2013. The wonderful ambience created by the new owners is a perfect place to stay if spending a few days visiting Monet's House, Gardens and the surrounding area.
Review 112:An amazing old building restored with style and integrity. A wonderful place to stay not just if visiting Monet's garden. The owners were extremely hospitable and very helpful with suggestions of places to visit.
Review 113:Curtains on a couple of windows in the room weren't adequate. No TV in room. These were minor issues for us.
Review 114:Laurent, the owner/manager, is a wonderful guy. Spoke English well although his wife did not. Property restoration is excellent. Very quiet area.
Review 115:Beautiful old building in rural setting. The owner was charming and very friendly and helpful. We were greeted with a glass of Normandy cider and offered a tea or coffee at bedtime. The rooms were simple but very comfortable. We would definitely stay again if visiting giverny and would recommend to friends
Review 116:Not one thing not to like
Review 117:Everything, It has been the high light of all accommodation I have used in the past 10 weeks of the holiday. The property is superb & deserves a gold star for their service & attention to detail. We were made to feel most welcome from the very first minute we arrived & also were given a lift back to Vernon on out departure.
Review 118:La Dime was a little bit of heaven on earth. Sophisticated yet not ostentatious . Just the right amount of attention and hospitality. Everything was impeccable yet understated. After traveling the four corners of the globe this is my favorite B&B hands down... Thomas & Rhonda Bollinger
Review 119:The doors of the rooms cannot be locked from the outside, and basically all guests live in a "community". This would not be a problem, but I had the feeling that basically anyone from the street can enter any of the rooms. Staff is often not around. The place is not indicated at all. We had to walk and ask around just to find out which house it is.
Review 120:If you want to visit the Monet garden, it is just great. Please remember that check-in time is limited (5pm-6pm). As we did not, we had to wait for almost an hour just to get lucky enough to check in. Breakfast is great, and the whole place is very special.
Review 121:This really is one of those special places that you will feel so pleased with yourself for discovering. It is an ancient building that has been lovingly refurbished with great, understated style. Each room is beautiful and individual. The hosts, are just that, real hosts welcoming you to their home. In our five weeks of travel through France and Italy only one other accommodation showed equal hospitality. Super breakfast on the lovely mezzanine. Gentle and very pleasant walk to the gardens.
Review 122:Rien!
Review 123:Heavenly! A delightful and welcoming host in a stunning location for lovers of the wonderful mix of cutting edge modern design in an ancient house. Such a refreshing change from the usual chintz. Breakfast, served on the mezzanine level was superb, with abundant fresh produce and quite beautiful attention to detail. The bedroom, complete with petite balcony overlooking the garden and bathroom were pared down in design and wonderful. The owner plans to use the restored central hall for functions and how perfect it will be for that purpose. A stay at La Dime de Giverny makes your visit to Monet's garden a sublime experience. Perfect too is a meal under the trees in the garden terrace at the excellent Ancien Hotel Baudy, just around the corner.
Review 124:we had trouble opening some windows so poeple should have explained how these open - which they do when you know how!
Review 125:Gorgeous, 12th century farmhouse conversion - really charming very friendly owner stylish and spacious bedroom and super courtyard for that evening drink tasty breakfast too really convenient location in the lovely village of Giverny
Review 126:I love everything
Review 127:The place is incredibly beautiful by all means. The rooms are really comfortable, delicately furnished and brand new. Frederique the owner was warm and cozy and made us feel as at home. We had an unforgettable stay
