Reviews for Chateau De Montreuil

Review 1:The food and accommodation was very good but a little over-priced, particularly as breakfast was not included.

Review 2:Good facilities for dogs and the accommodation was very comfortable.

Review 3:A superb hotel in a stunning setting. The rooms are large with excellent bathrooms (we were a group of 6 so we had 3 double rooms) and the food was absolutely wonderful (we had the Menu di Chef). I have i fact stayed there before which is why I chose it this time, and I shall certainly be going again in the future.

Review 4:The prices of the minibar!

Review 5:The overall reception and general "feel" of the place. The room was perfect and the food was exquisite. The staff were all perfect.

Review 6:The dinner was expensive when compared to other chateaux meals elsewhere, poorly presented (eg a huge lump of riz de veau, or foie gras, which should have been sliced on the plate -- although in this case both cooked to perfection). The hot gratin oysters were not nice, dry and the cheese smothered the taste. The cheese board was basic. The chocolate hot souffle excellent. I got the impression they were still trading, but without much effort, on the Michelin star in 2007, now lapsed. We had one breakfast shared, but the Mme in charge insisted on charging for two, despite having spent over Eu300 on our dinner. She was a bit surly, although she gave us a room with a small salon at the start without being asked. We couldn't fathom why. The rooms all seem nice, though. Dreadful smell of cooking at breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout one end of the hotel, and in our room. They really should get their extractor fan sorted out!

Review 7:Beautiful bedroom, lovely salon & dining room, pretty gardens, good location up on the ramparts. Montreuil is a pretty little town to visit for a day if you can hop over the channel easily. But it's an almost completely English clientele there if you don't mind that.

Review 8:Very welcoming staff. Nothing too much trouble. We had the restaurant to ourselves and had the Michelin starred seven course taster menu. Expensive but worth it.

Review 9:All good but like many larger French homes /chateau the buildings don't stand too much close scrutiny as they need constant investment. Looks to be in need of some modernisation inside. Only mention this as cost per night is towards the top end in this region.

Review 10:Iconic location in a beautiful building in historic montreuil. A real sense of occasion most staff very pleasant and formally attired

Review 11:We were in the region for a meeting which started at 9AM , unfortunately it was impossible to have anything for breakfast, even just a tea or coffee before 8 AM.

Review 12:We were pleasantly surprised by how nice the hotel is. The room was beautifully decorated with antiques and a fireplace, and lots of attention to details. Our room had a black bathroom which was gorgeous! We came with an electric car and the staff did everything possible to help us charge it. They went way out of there way. The grounds were lovely. The restaurant was exceptional!

Review 13:I don't think I would like to lounge round the swimming pool - it is too public.

Review 14:Wonderful food, wine and service. Comfortable bed, room and huge bathroom. Very nice atmosphere. The gardens are lovely with lots of places to sit.

Review 15:I believe a hotel of this calibre should provide free drinking water in the bedroom.

Review 16:Elegant, tranquil location,friendly professional staff,exceptional dinner,comfortable room.

Review 17:Shower was telling type attached to bath taps that you have to hold no shower curtail so water goes everywhere and with a high sided bath is dangerous.

Review 18:Short notice booking. Had a courtyard room. Excellent staff, friendly and helpful.

Review 19:You have to like being coddled and attended to. For us it was more than we were accustomed to. Great stay though - but at a price.

Review 20:Wonderful service, great food and great position. Easy to get to the pretty town and market area. Watching the fireworks from our bedroom window was a bonus!

Review 21:Superbly comfortable room with excellent bathroom. Dinner was served by welcoming staff in tastefully decorated dining room. Quality and presentation of meal could not be better.

Review 22:The bath/ shower area was below expectations. Grouting was stained orange and a feeble attempt had been made to cover black mould round the bath. The shower was above the bath but there was no mat to prevent slipping.

Review 23:Beautiful gardens and helpful, friendly staff.Impressed by the young man on reception. Also many thanks to the chef who got up at quarter to five to let us out of the chateau because we had an early channel crossing.

Review 24:This is a beautiful hotel in a lovely setting. The room was very comfortable, and the gardens are fabulous. The meal in the restaurant was superb, and the service all round was very good.

Review 25:Unfortunately the service at dinner was extremely slow, with main course allowed to cool off. A great disappointment as the food itself was wonderful.

Review 26:The building architecture and the gardens were superb. Food was sublime as well as the alfresco setting.

Review 27:Our room was extremely comfortable with a lovely view over the gardens. Marvellous food and service in the restaurant. All this just a stone's throw from the ramparts and the beautiful views across the French countryside.

Review 28:Nothing.

Review 29:We got an upgrade to a delightful suite. Dinner was top drawer but a little pricey. The chateau has been finished with excellent furniture and fittings, full of character and luxury feel throughout. Pool on the rear patio was a lovely surprise. Service second to none.

Review 30:The bedroom, with the exception of the excellent modern bathroom, left a lot to be desired. The bed and the room generally were uncomfortable and the electrical installation is badly in need of modernisation. The breakfast is grossly overpriced and when my wife requested gluten free bread for the following morning, a single gluten free bread roll was produced which was still partly frozen inside. This, apart from orange juice and yogurt was all she was offered for breakfast. The dinner service was very slow.

Review 31:The front of house staff were excellent

Review 32:Room 211 1. Very poor Wifi throughout hotel 2. Stains from drinking glasses on glass table from previous guess. 3. Loose toilet seat 4. Rain coming through Window frame! 5. False window frame fell off 6. Paintwork very tired 6. Batteries very low on TV remote 7. Mold on bead around bath 8. Mold in both sink over flows 9. Breakfast not included For the price charged the above was not acceptable. The hotel management require a reality check.

Review 33:Attentive Staff Comfortable Bed Hotel Grounds and Location

Review 34:wonderful friendly staff, a free up grade to a stunning room and a really gorgeous meal. The breakfast was also outstanding! We will most definitely be returning! Thank you

Review 35:The Room has a basin plug that did not work and the evening meal was spoilt due to a lack of choice. To explain, the menu cost is quite high and we found of the 6 main course options, one was not available and two others had to be for two people. This did not suite what we both wanted! So for the cost, that did not leave much to choose from. Having said that the Chef did make an offer to my wife which was accepted gladly. Breakfast was in one word - superb.

Review 36:The location, helpfulness of all the staff we met, the room was very comfortable and as this was my birthday, I was rewarded with an excellent finish to our trip to France.

Review 37:My partner broke her foot walking and the hotel staff were very helpful and accomodating. We want to go back and enjoy the lovely bedrooms and excellent food again soon.

Review 38:We were offered a free upgrade from a garden room to a staggeringly beautiful and well equipped room on the first floor overlooking the pretty garden. The food in the restaurant was quite superb, and all the staff served us with warm friendliness and impeccable efficiency.

Review 39:Only fault would be that some of the decor is a little tired and for the price, a shower would be nice in the bathroom!

Review 40:The staff are very friendly and professional, could not have done more for us, the dining staff particularly

Review 41:Nothing at all.

Review 42:everything. Montreuil is a very pretty small town. Our room was very traditional and pretty with a separate dressing room, lovely fireplace with a fire glowing in it (albeit artificial!) but gave a warm feel to the room. The bathroom had a large walk in shower and huge bath. The food was fantastic, both for dinner and breakfast. Staff were extremely helpful and courteous. Would we go again? Absolutely. Can't wait!!!

Review 43:We booked into the hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary - the hotel didn't know - so we were delighted and surprised to find that our room had been upgraded. Gorgeous huge room with a four poster. Dinner was delicious and the breakfast the next day was so good and so generous we didn't eat again until the evening. A very successful evening.

Review 44:Delightful, welcoming staff. Attentive but unobtrusive. Fantastic location in a charming old walled town. Extraordinarily good food in restaurant - if a little expensive at E75 pp - but the memory of taste and ambience long outlive the pain of the bill!

Review 45:Whilst the garden room was lovely there were a lot of gadgets to control the heating and also the bath!! We never got to grips with them which was fine because we were only there for 2 nights. Fortunately the weather was perfect so the walk to the main hotel was fine.

Review 46:The food was really excellent. We stayed in one of the garden rooms, which was lovely but if we visit again we would choose to stay in the main hotel. The staff were very helpful.

Review 47:The bedroom was under-lit and quite dark.

Review 48:Excellent location between town and the Ramparts.Warm welcome and great ambiance. We had a comfortable fourposter bed too!

Review 49:We loved our stay at the Chateau de Montreuil. The staff did everything possible for our enjoyment. It was especially nice to celebrate our wedding anniversary in such a relaxing place. A memorable luxury stop before driving back home.

Review 50:Nothing apart from the lack of a lift. However, the staff are so helpful that you hardly notice!

Review 51:Food. We had an excellent, relaxed dinner with friends served impeccably and unobtrusively, by the very efficient staff. Comfort. Our accommodation was large and quiet, on the 2nd floor with an anteroom, with space for luggage and separate bathroom and toilet. Gardens. The walled gardens were private and, weather permitting, an lovely place to sit with a drink. Service. The staff, throughout the hotel were friendly, helpful and efficient. Ambience. Overall a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. Montreuil. As well as the hotel the town of Montreuil is also well worth a visit.

Review 52:Everything at the chateau was gorgeous. We loved the very beautiful room and the bed was extremely comfortable and madly impressive with it's small staircase. Montreuil is a lovely town and an easy distance from the port .

Review 53:Every single thing. This was our fifth visit and we LOVE going there. Nothing is too much trouble and we can't wait to visit again soon. We recommend this hotel to all our friends and family. It's become a family tradition.

Review 54:Beautiful hotel, attentive staff. room luxurious, comfortable bed and pillows, individually decorated, grounds lovely with plenty of seating areas to be away from other people for a bit of privacy, easy to walk around ramparts and the small town. We did not have dinner but the dining room was beautiful, very elegant and the menu looked delicious (bit pricey but it is renowned for quality)

Review 55:Having to leave. Next year we will stay for longer. It was a treat to stay there and we will definitely go again.

Review 56:Well located, by the very cute town of Montreuil, perfect for a wine tour visit, as it is so near to Beaune. It has a lovely restaurant and very nice gardens which provide a perfect retreat after a day in the vineyards.

Review 57:The hotel location, the hotel itself and all the staff were wonderful. the setting is gorgeous with a lovely garden and an elegant hotel. We had three bedrooms for the six of us, one with a double balcony, one with a four poster bed and one with the largest bathroom we have ever seen. All were stunning. The food was amazing, the best we have had in the region and our dinner for eight people was served on the terrace. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and especially their wonderful maitre d' who looked after us so well. This all made for a wonderful birthday celebration and holiday.

Review 58:On this occasion due to being busy the service In the restaurant fell well short of what we have come to expect at this hotel.

Review 59:A return visit. The chateau is very relaxing and ideally located for the channel ports. Comfortsble, excellent food and service

Review 60:Nothing!

Review 61:This hotel is outstanding with huge traditionally furnished rooms, a comfortable lounge and spacious gardens and a swimming pool. Situated next to the Citadel and just a few minutes walk from the centre of town its location is perfect. A luxury stay with highly attentive staff and excellent cuisine. Will definitely return.

Review 62:In 2014 is is not really acceptable for the restaurant in a major hotel to be closed on a Monday evening during the holiday season.

Review 63:We stayed in a rather quirky, very traditional room under the eaves. It was spacious and comfortable. The facilities are excellent and the hotel is perfectly placed for walks to town and for the son et lumiere.

Review 64:The fact we could only stay one night

Review 65:We booked our stay here last minute as we were touring Belgium and France on our motorbikes, we needed a place close to Calais as we were due to go home the following day so put a search in booking.com, I'm so glad we did, the town itself is lovely with fantastic views from the town walls, and the hotel was amazing We stayed in the garden apartment in the room "glycine" and it was stunning. A spa bath, toiletries robes and slippers, the bed was comfy and the whole room beautifully decorated. We didn't eat there as wanted to explore the area but had coffee later which came with the most amazing shortbread! A shame we couldn't stop longer, really would stay again

Review 66:The location, welcome and knowledge of the staff are second to non. Attention to detail was evident everywhere. Breakfast was the best we have had in France. The food is exceptional with local ingredients used whenever possible we wanted to stay longer but will hurry back whenever possible. This is a small piece of heaven, just loved it.

Review 67:After having stated vegetarian on booking, a slight oversight of staff not conveying this to the chef. Fortunately chef used his skills and imagination to produce a very delicious meal.

Review 68:General ambience and tranquility of the surroundings.

Review 69:Paradise is the only way to describe the Chateau Montreiul. Once you enter through the garden door you are in a different world. Elegant and relaxing. We were allocated a beautiful courtyard room with a superb bathroom. Dinning was Michelin star quality. The Sommelier was very attentive and recommended a lovely wine which didn't break the bank. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Breakfast was quite an experience, fresh baked bread and coffee to die for. The pool was very inviting, which I used everyday of our three day stay. We opted to have tea by the pool each afternoon and we were not disappointed . On our last night we decided to dine at the Chateau's alternative restaurant in the town, Christian drove us to the restaurant and collected us afterwards. Way beyond the call of duty and much appreciated. Thank you for our lovely stay. We will be back and could not recommend the Chateau enough.

Review 70:After a hectic weekend at LeMans the chateau was the perfect place to relax and unwind. A lovely room overlooking the front garden and a wonderful breakfast. We will be back

Review 71:Restaurant expensive, with limited choice on menu especially if you not keen on offal or snails. Apricot tart for dessert was freshly made and was superb but main courses average for price and starters limited choice.

Review 72:Location, character and quality and comfort of room.

Review 73:We were immediately made welcome in a wam, yet still formal style that is the mark of French politesse. While not inexpensive, dinner on the terrace on a summer evening was a delight: take your time and enjoy. Equally for breakfast. Although booked into the annexe, we were upgraded to a beautiful room inthe main house.

Review 74:Nothing

Review 75:We had an enjoyable stay at the chateau where the staff were very helpful and considerate we have stayed many times before and the standard never drops

Review 76:The wi-fi connection was very poor which was a frustration. It was a Monday and the restaurant was closed for dinner, which was a disappointment, although we were recommended to dine at the Jeroboam (nearby) and had a very good meal that was not too expensive.

Review 77:We were upgraded to a beautiful room with balcony overlooking the garden. The room also had a fabulous bathroom. Breakfast was lovely with an excellent selection of food, and entirely with waiter service

Review 78:The quality of the service

Review 79:We loved the room we were given, in the garden annexe. Great bathroom, space, comfortable bed etc.

Review 90:Couldn't fault anything.

Review 92:No wash basin in either toilet in our room

Review 93:The evening meal was exceptional

Review 94:There was no wifi available during the whole of our stay. It is available at a nearby chemist shop
