Reviews for Maison de Marquay
Review 1:Warm and gracious hospitality. Excellent cuisine. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the owners, eager to assist in travel planning, dietary considerations, and recommendations for restaurants and activities. Highly recommended.
Review 2:Nothing.
Review 3:This wasn't like staying at an hotel, one felt that we were the guests of the hosts, who did everything they could to make our stay memorable. The food was superb - Gerard is a most accomplished cook. It was just a pity that we could only stay for 3 nights.
Review 4:Oh, where to begin? A lovely property in a tiny, peaceful village not far from Sarlat. Gorgeous garden, pool, and wonderful interior full of tastefully chosen antiques. Above all the warm, friendly welcome from Marie Laure and Gerard. We would love to stay much longer next time. And the food is spectacular, so delicious and fresh, truly the best meals we've enjoyed in France.
Review 5:The Maison du Marquay has the unique combination of being very friendly without being intrusive and providing luxury accomodations and meals, yet making it feel like "home." It was an outstanding experience!
Review 6:Superb multi course breakfasts, excellent and helpful hosts who provide outstanding hospitality and regional travel tips and information, superb evening meals prepared by Girard, extraordinarily comfortable accommodations, perfect location for exploring the Dordogne region.
Review 7:Excellent location to visit the région during the Day and enjoy the calm and confort. Very nice owners, personalized yet professiional service - superb dining ambiance. Great food, superb service - a perfect 10!
Review 8:A bit tricky to find. Parking area is adjacent to the B & B entrance which is a door in a stone wall. Had to phone Marie-Laure twice to find it, but this was not a problem. When we finally found the door, she was very welcoming and refreshments were offered immediately. Quite lovely indeed after a long drive!
Review 9:We thoroughly enjoyed the hosts Marie-Laure and Gérard. Gérard gave us very hopeful advice regarding tourism in the area. Marie-Laure keeps a very organized and beautiful home for guests to enjoy. Gérard prepares exceptional breakfast and dinner cuisines. Highly recommend making dinner reservations here.
Review 10:Marquay is a picturesque tiny stone village with narrow cobblestone roads and stone homes located in the heart of Perigord in the Dordogne Region. It's a great location to use as your base for visits to all the sights of this incredible French region. It's only 10 minutes to Sarlet but without the traffic and crowds. It might be a little tough to locate but it's worth letting a GPS guide you through the windy roads. Marquay is also where the most exceptional Bed and Breakfast is located, Maison de Marquay, a wonderfully renovated stone home with lush gardens, a pool and comfy outdoor sitting areas. Our very quiet and restful air-conditioned bedroom and en suite bath were both very spacious with elegant French furniture and tasteful French touches. We were amazed at the feeling of comfort and warmth that the gracious owners, Marie-Laure and Gerard, created for their guests. You can just feel the love and joy that they give and receive from their guests. When we arrived, they were waiting for us with smiles, guide books and an offering of refreshments. Perfect! As they oriented us, we breathed in the quiet sounds of birds chirping, leaves rustling and pool waters' lapping. Imagine all this plus Gerard is an accomplished chef with the very best culinary skills and an artistic flair for meal presentation. Reserve one day in advance and he will prepare an amazingly creative, delicious 4 course dinner. It's always Gerard's surprise and always special and he always uses fresh regional foods! Dinners were a highlight 2X's for our stay and well worth the nominal additional charge for both the food and the experience! Exquisite! Next time we'd dine there every night! Of course, Gerard's delicious breakfasts are served every day by Marie-Laure in her lovely dining setting or in the outdoor gardens. Marie seems to attend to all the "details" and is she great at that...so...oooo nice. So sorry our stay is over.
Review 11:The bourg de Marquay is small, but we still had a bit of trouble finding Maison de Marquay. Better signage would help. Look for the double M on the gate.
Review 12:Everything! Very good served breakfasts, We enjoyed two fingers here. Gerard is an amazing cook.
Review 13:The optional dinners were among the best we enjoyed in France.
Review 14:Pressure to arrive within a precise time frame
Review 15:Hospitality, Food, Accommodations

Review 17:Beautifully designed property. Lovely location. Extremely helpful and friendly owners/operators. Food (both breakfast and dinner) are to die for.
Review 18:Shower in Bath
Review 19:The hosts and the meals Peaceful rural setting not far from Sarlat
Review 20:Nothing
Review 21:Well located for many day-trips in the Perigord region. Marie Laure and Gerard were both very friendly and helpful.
Review 22:Fantastic meals produced by Gerard. Excellent welcome and service.
Review 23:Marie Laure and Gerard are quite gracious and truly go the extra mile to make you feel at home. The food is fabulous and the accommodation very nice. It is also very pleasant to be in the country, rather than Sarlat.
Review 24:My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Maison de Marquaywhile visiting family, chateaux and archaeological sites. I hadoriginally chosen the Maison de Marquay because of its convenientlocation and attractive appearance but photos cannot convey the peaceand tranquility generated by the tasteful décor. Our room was large, beautiful and bright but the thing I liked the most about it was thedesk with great light and a comfortable chair. My husband found thebooks in the room fascinating. Our hosts were both attentive andgracious, realizing I needed a Wi-Fi connection before I even asked;providing us with refreshment as soon as we arrived. The Perigord isknown for its food but Gérard`s dinner was outstanding. We willdefinitely be back but for a longer stay next time. (In case you askfor directions, "Marquay" rhymes with "Sky" in thelocal dialect.)
