Innkeeper's Lodge Loch Lomond

Innkeeper's Lodge Loch Lomond descritpion
A 15-minute walk from the shores of the famous loch sits the Innkeeper’s Lodge Loch Lomond. It has existed as Balloch House Hotel for over a hundred years and couples rustic charm with modern accommodations with private bathrooms.
The Innkeeper’s Lodge Loch Lomond serves hearty meals in the Balloch House pub, which has fireplaces and a beamed ceiling. Each bright and neutrally-decorated room comes with a TV and tea/coffee-making facilities, and some even have views of the loch or the River Leven.
Seven local golf courses, 2 of which situated right on the loch, mean fanatics are spoiled for choice. Hiking in the Lomond and Trossachs National Park is on the doorstep, and the Balloch Castle Country Park is less than a 5-minute walk away.
Glasgow city center is 30 minutes away by car and Edinburgh Airport is just over a 1 hour drive.

Reviews for Innkeeper's Lodge Loch Lomond
Review 1:Fantastic location, staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make our trip extra special for my partner's birthday.
Review 2:on arrival the staff were great, when I booked our stay I asked if a loch view was available, unfortunately there wasn't, there was when we arrived, brilliant view from our room, my mrs and i were well made up, hospitality great, friendly bubbly staff, open fire wins every time
Review 3:The staff was not helpful and we actually booked a loch view room at a premium but was only given a partial loch view. We even checked with the staff upon check in that it is a loch view room and she confirmed that it is. Later on, we realised that it has only a partial side view of the loch. When we spoke to the staff later on, she said ya, that is considered only a partial loch view room! But she refused to charge us for only the partial loch view room rate and instead insisted that we pay for the full loch view room rate. This is totally unfair and dishonest. Upon check in when we asked explicitly if the room is as per what we have reserved ie loch view room, she should have told us about the deviation!
Review 4:The property is old and the room was sloping, which meant the bed was too. It was compensated by the view and fact that it was on the first floor. So didn't ask to be moved. We were disssapointed that there was no bath only a shower.
Review 5:The staff and the food are wonderful. The dining room is lovely and warm and full of atmosphere. We often eat here when we visit the area. The hotel is handy for the railway station and easy to find.
Review 6:A great location with super staff the room whilst small was comfortable and had everything required. Minor niggle double bed 4ft 6" Happy to return anytime
Review 7:The double bed was very small, the room could afford a king size.
Review 8:Wonderful and obliging staff. Family room was perfect for 4, lovely view of the river.
Review 9:The bed was rather uncomfortable.
Review 10:Lovely big room, great location! Perfect for a long autumnal walk the following morning. Great to be able to eat and drink by the fire without leaving the building as it was cold and rainy!!
Review 11:Being told by a bar staff member that some specks floating in my second malt whisky was 'residue' because I'd asked to use the same glass (I prefer that). I was actually somewhat amused by the presence of the stuff but was not happy with his response, which, rather than 'I am terribly sorry sir' or something similar, was one of shifting blame straight onto me. I concluded that the specks were very probably from flakes of wood falling from the very old, flaky wooden beams which had fallen on to our table. There were some on the table. An immature reaction to the issue, and a waste of good malt!
Review 12:Nice building, nice location, good 'old pub' atmosphere, great food.
Review 13:The pillows were extremely soft and bed very hard. Didnt have too good asleep.
Review 14:Hotel was lovely.Right on the doch of the boat tours.so biew of the loch was amazing.restraunt attatched also where breakfast is. So close to shops, restraurants and 15 mins to lodge on loch lomond whoch is where we were going for a wedding. Defo come again.
Review 15:The room was at front of hotel on Main Street, right next to the hotel light which lit up our room. The bed needs to be replaced was so soft & uncomfortable both went home with sore backs!!
Review 16:The hotel itself was fine, the food was good. Staff friendly.
Review 17:Nothing to dislike
Review 18:Location was perfect and central for touring the area, plenty of safe car parking all the staff were extremely helpful and very friendly, food and drink good , the Log Fire was a cosy touch to the Hotel and staff kept the fire burning all day, nice with a Whiskey or two. Felt like home, will certainlt return in the future
Review 19:Noisy bar below our room. No soundproofing so we could hear doors banging and people talking throughout the night.
Review 20:Big room. Central location. Helpful staff.
Review 21:That we couldn't stay longer
Review 22:We loved everything. It was spotlessly clean. Great staff, excellent service, delicious food, convenient location, comfortable room.
Review 23:Tried to think of a negative points but can't recall anything wrong at all.
Review 24:The room was lovely and the views over the loch (pictured) were divine. The staff were also fantastic, friendly and made everything easy and enjoyable. Special thanks to Lee, who gave us a great early impression and was very accommodating. Will have to come here again!
Review 25:Nothing. Balloch itself, although not unpleasant, is functional and convenient. However, the Loch Side location and easy access to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs make it a great launch pad.
Review 26:After leaving Glasgow airport late in the evening it was an ideal 20 min drive beyond the city limits. Its Loch side location, which I did not realise until daylight, set my up perfectly for a long days drive to the far NW Highlands next morning with no tussle with city traffic.
Review 27:Wi fi access not to great.
Review 28:Great location.Vintage decor suited the style of building.meals were well presented, tasty and not over priced.Staff were extremely helpful +++ Rooms very clean and comfortable.
Review 29:This is a great hotel with lots of character and a great location. The staff were fantastic. The hot water service failed while we were there. The manager went to extraordinary lengths to make sure we were looked after.
Review 30:Stairs were very narrow and hard to carry a large suitcase up. Very noisy as above pub and people banging on door after midnight to get let in. Would not recommend for families with young children. Fire alarm went off in morning which was very frightening for children and as we rushed out in our pyjamas were told it was due to a the toaster. Facilities basic.
Review 31:Staff were very helpful and friendly and continental breakfast had a lot on offer.
Review 32:The room was clean however the bathroom had cobwebs. There was 8 spiders alone in the bathroom. The sink didn't drain properly. The bed was too soft. This really let me down because the place itself was lovely!
Review 33:Loved the location. Beautiful scenery! The staff were lovely and the food was good.
Review 34:Tried to connect to wifi without success. Evening meal was overcooked but waitress offered replacement which we refused and then discounted bill.
Review 35:Location great right in Loch Lomond. Good restaurant attached. Room facilities good.
Review 36:nothing
Review 37:The staff were very welcoming and friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. My son forgot his toothbrush and they were able to provide one straight away. Breakfast was continental, with hot croissants and plenty of cereal, fruit, juices, teas and coffee. You could order bacon sandwiches too. The position of the building is great as it looks out onto the lake and there were ducks and rabbits nearby too. beautiful
Review 38:Friendly staff welcome, nothing too much trouble, clean, comfortable, great combination of good rooms, good food, good pub style bar, good location. Thankyou.
Review 39:Great Location: very convenient. Adequate facilities for a stopover . Comfortable rooms: came prepared as knew bathroom has only minimal soap/wash dispenser. Very happy with stay. Though aware others had very long waits for cooked breakfasts.
Review 40:The room was clean but needs updating the kids sofa bed was very uncomfortable the metal frame needs covering .
Review 41:The staff were excellent friendly and always smiling . Food delicious
Review 42:The WiFi only work on the ground floor. I stayed in room 2 on the first floor, the floor is visibly not level. I placed a bottle of water at one end of the room and it rolled 10 feet unaided to the other. This was captured on video! Entrance to the building is awkward and dangerous at times pedestrians negotiating with cars for access building.
Review 43:Friendly staff
Review 44:Grubby room especially the bathroom. Although we were all fascinated by the way the dust laden cobweb billowed above the light bulb when the wall light was on I'm sure it wasn't really meant to be there! Availability of items on the children's menu was hit and miss.
Review 45:lovely location, friendly staff
Review 46:Bar closed before 11pm. Breakfast was simply awful in terms of quality and presentation. Seemed that there was only one poor chap left to greet, cook and serve the entire restaurant.
Review 47:Location
Review 48:Poor breakfast. Had to pay for cooked food. I would also not recommend dinner as they are not equipped to serve a full restaurant. We waited two hours for our meal.
Review 49:Location is perfect. Right on the loch and in town. Staff is friendly and room was nice for a family.
Review 50:We had trouble with the WiFi - kept losing the signal. The toilet seat was broken beyond repair so although we reported it, it couldn't be fixed that evening. Staff apologetic.
Review 51:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was a good sized family room and comfortable. The bar and restaurant are very quaint and the hotel is in a lovely location.
Review 52:A cooked breakfast is extra. The free wifi is a way of getting your email address. Slightly chaotic booking system for tables for an evening meal but may have been a one-off
Review 53:Nice room and bed. Friendly and helpful staff. Good location
Review 54:Nothing - it was great!
Review 55:Everything - value for money, great food (especially the options on the kids menu), great location, friendly staff, complimentary breakfast, size of room...I could not fault this place and would recommend to others!
Review 56:No information in room on times for breakfast/food or local activities. Was available in communal areas though.
Review 57:Nice location, pleasant room, clean and secure access.
Review 58:Great trip, great location, staff were very accommodating. Lovely 5 minute walk to lomond shores. A stones throw from balloch castle park. Overall excellent, we will be back.
Review 59:The beds were extremely soft, so it wasn't the best night's sleep.
Review 60:The location is great, with some views looking out to the river and on to Loch Lomond itself.
Review 61:not very clean ,windows old and in very poor state of repair,in my opinion dangerous, old building water marks on ceiling, secure entrance very unreliable often did not close securely meaning members of the public could easily enter unseen and have easy access to the bedrooms
Review 62:location
Review 63:The bed was on a slope in fact spent 2 nd night sleeping wrong way round so my feet were not above my head. Also the toasters did not work properly and were plunged in to a extension.
Review 64:Breakfast staff very cheerful & welcoming
Review 65:Location away from Glasgow but easy access via rail or road. Also quick to airport. Being on Loch Lomond meant access to walks and cruises. Good pub food plus.
Review 66:The inn has a very warm and cozy feel to it, especially the bar/reception and dining area. It's got this nice vintage look which makes you feel very comfortable. The staff was equally polite, cheerful and very helpful as well. The room and bathroom were spacious, neat and clean with a lovely view overlooking the lush greenery and the lake. Wifi and breakfast were both included in the tariff. This inn is also amazingly close (2 min walk) to both Balloch station and bus stand so easy to get to Luss and Balmaha from here. Our stay here felt like a real B&B stay! :)
Review 67:Our room - no 10 had a sewer smell & we could hear a generator all night. The bar stopped serving at 11. The cooked breakfast was very poor - hard eggs & very tough salty bacon.
Review 68:The girl serving breakfast was very friendly & efficient
Review 69:Very steep spiral staircase, on lift. There is a notice on the bedroom door that said 'mind the step',unfortunately I did not see this, as you go into the room there is a half step which I missed then another step which I fell down as I was unbalanced from the first step and went flying into the room. Fortunately I missed the bedside table but badly bruised my ankle. I realise this is an old property but think that the half step is dangerous.
Review 70:Nice clean, large room, lovely bed.
Review 71:Rooms very warm, if window was opened then it was quite noisy. Breakfast was slow and not very impressive. Poached eggs were hard yolks! Service was very slow.
Review 72:Locality good for loch lomond
Review 73:Bed a bit soft and bouncy. We were looking for Innkeepers Lodge, rather than Balloch House Hotel which was the main signage, so drove past it a couple of times before we realised it was the right place!
Review 74:Lovely setting, nice ambience in bar and restaurant areas, nice and clean, good food.
Review 75:As above
Review 76:Could have got this cheaper under hotel name.. groupon however...name inkeepers lodge on loch lomond...its acutually on the tip by river..no cooked breakfast..staff very uninterested when tried to explain..
Review 77:Getting cold water from shower.we informed them at reception. No one fixed. Next day also same issue. We have a 4 yrs kid too. and about WiFi, it's Very very poor connection. about breakfast, when we book through booking.com its including breakfast. But they asked us to pay when we asked for fried egg.
Review 78:Nothing
Review 79:The hotel was lovely in a great location with beautiful views and a large car park to the rear. The staff were very friendly and made us all feel welcome. Breakfast was fab! Would definitely stay again.
Review 80:not a thing
Review 81:Lovely spot on the side of a river. Beautiful walks just beside hotel. Food divine for dinner and breakfast. Room lovely: clean modern updating with a huge bathroom. All amenities. close to Loch lomond and Trossaachs
Review 82:Our daughter was very sick upon arrival and the manager quickly found us medical help. His kindness will not be forgotten. Rooms were comfortable and clean. I would have loved to have had a meal there. The inn had a wonderful atmosphere and my mother in law said they had a delicious dinner.
Review 83:It was a pity there was music (piped stuff) in every corner of the downstairs rooms, there should really be a quiet area for the more discerning. Staff did turn off a speaker when asked, greatly appreciated that, we could eat and talk without any irritating noise. As with a lot of hotels, how often are they aired? corridor doors and windows opened for a daily half hour would not go amiss to freshen up the place.
Review 84:Very accommodating and friendly staff, the fire was warm and welcoming. Room was quiet and attractive.
Review 85:The view from our room, other buildings and cigarette ends littered on roof top outside.
Review 86:Food lovely and lounge area in hotel relaxing to sit in. Room nice, not cleaned very well but terrible view, of a wall and cigarette ends..
Review 87:Only two small things - the bathroom was a little unclean - I had to rinse out the shower before use. Also, the continental breakfast was great but the cooked breakfast was very greasy (both French toast and full English) and was disappointing.
Review 88:The staff, especially the female bartender and breakfast waitress, were excellent (sorry, don't remember their names). The bedroom was bright and airy with good facilities. Food in the bar at night was lovely.
Review 89:Excellent location on path up to Loch Lomond. Large secluded car park (we were travelling in 1937 car). Good choice on menu at very reasonable prices (offer - 2 courses for £11.50)
Review 90:Bed had a huge dip in the middle very uncomfortable. Took an hour for our evening meal to be served. Not enought staff on during the day. Outside tables were no cleaned the whole day.
Review 91:Location was fab. Room was clean. Complimentary breakfast was good.
Review 92:Don't really have anything of which to complain about!
Review 93:The restaurant had a good menu, coupled with a very cosy and relaxing ambience. Really spacious room with a very comfortable bed and good facilities with a high standard of cleanliness.
Review 94:Staff a bit scarce on occasion
Review 95:Long , long time since in the area but loved it. First time back home in years and now find the accent a bit difficult to understand
Review 96:The radiator was really hot and I couldn't turn it off and I couldn't find a number to speak to anyone about it. Disappointed when I got a glimpse at check in that other guests had paid £25 less than me!
Review 97:Manager not welcoming, no eye contact no conversation. The evening meal was awful, as a few other customers pointed out and were refunded. Too long a wait for sub standard food, waitress although very nice had no product knowledge, or enough training, lack of any managerial presence to help with staff problems. The room although ok, the bed was horrendous and you could feel every spring in your ribs.
Review 98:Location is excellent, the bar area with fires ect warm and inviting .
Review 99:We didn't realise that the heater was switched off on our firts night and we were freezing. When we realised and turned it on it was fine.
Review 100:Staff were friendly. Good food, comfy bed in the heart of balloch.
Review 101:Checked in late after travelling a long time & food took a long time as did the drinks. No-one attended the table the whole time had to keep waving & asking. Had been a busy day and staff seemed harrassed.
Review 102:Great location. Breakfast was great & morning staff very friendly & attentive.
Review 103:No complaints at all
Review 104:Lovely atmosphere and welcome. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Lovely room and facilities. Real ales and fantastic food a bonus in the bar
Review 105:The sign out front reads Balloch House with Innkeeper's Lodge in print too small to read from the road, so had trouble finding it
Review 106:Friendly staff, great view from the room, great breakfast and late checkout.
Review 107:Pay extra for cooked breakfast.
Review 108:Very friendly front of house staff. Allowed an earlier check in to enable getting changed for wedding. Excellent bar facilities for eating and drinking
Review 109:The staff bent over backwards to accommodate us arriving early and was ever so helpful when we were getting ready to go to a wedding that afternoon. The next day it was delightful to have check out midday which allowed us to have breakfast followed by a snooze...
Review 110:We've stayed at this Innkeepers Lodge for several years on our way up to our annual holiday in the Highlands. Excellent location, comfortable room, great meals and a really nice atmosphere. We'll be back next year ( God willing ).
Review 111:Cooked breakfast not being included in price.
Review 112:Staff, rooms, well appointed bedrooms, location beside beautiful park with walks around Loch Lomond. Access to other parts of Loch Lomond.
Review 113:At edge of unattractive conurbation A couple of staff-members off-hand It's a pub-with-rooms, rather than a hotel-with-a pub.
Review 114:Proximity to Glasgow Lakeside location Food - both dinner & breakfast Rooms
Review 115:Quite expensive, but no more so than other Scottish venues; was surprised about the check in at a pub bar rather than a Reception desk; problem finding it as not clearly signposted as Innkeepers Lodge (look for Balloch Castle Hotel), could do with a lift as walking upstairs with luggage is a bit of a struggle. The hotel itself is well situated and has character so it is unlikely that a lift will be fitted any time soon. Our room was very comfortable but the decor was a little tired; very slow WiFi
Review 116:Located near Loch Lomond along the river bank section and within short car driving distance of very nice places along the loch off the main roads. Excellent service from Helen at Breakfast. We love Scotland but you need to get off the main "A" roads so get to the best places & views.
Review 117:Drinks were a bit overpriced , a wine and a beer was over £10 , yet up the road the same drinks were only £6 . No champagne flutes for my wife's prosecco ,had to be served in a wine glass . Shower curtain was dirty . Felt the breakfast room could have been cleaner , it was like it had not been cleaned from the previous night .
Review 118:Location was perfect , Sunday dinner was excellent . Very relaxing for just sitting and chilling .
Review 119:-Far too soft bed -sloping floor -continental breakfast (!st morning okay, 2nd morning, no butter, no yoghurt because of delivery issues, which I don't think a good excuse as there are shops near by...)
Review 120:-View from Room 1 -Size of room
Review 121:Very disappointed after reading the internet write-ups! The pictures must be from when the hotel was first refurbished. The room was scruffy (room 8), the bed was more like a 3/4 bed than a double. The TV was confusing as there were 2 tv screens....one not working! The room was very dusty with lots of cobwebs! The continental breakfast was ok. The evening meal was served luke warm. When sent back was just 'neuked!' Not acceptable at £15 & £18 a course! Would we stay here again....er...no! We don't often complain but staying in hotels on business for more than 30 weekends every year this has to be one of the most disappointing. There was a print in the room about 'Smiling' - something that the staff should read and put into practice!
Review 122:The location was good.
Review 123:Our window was above the smoking area so we couldn't open it. but the view was good.As friday night gets very busy they could do with more staff.
Review 124:situated next to the River Levan, opposite the ferry terminal and marina.Less than 5 min walk from Balloch Railway Station.staff are friendly, food is good, rooms are clean. Some have a marina view, some have a Loch view, Balloch castle is within walking distance. The inn is a period property so the rooms are not square or level.
Review 125:Cleanliness not great. Water coming through ceiling in my mothers room and the bar. 40 min wait for food from ordering. Dirty cups in room. rubbish under sofa bed. Main bed very uncomfy.
Review 126:Large rooms
Review 127:WIFI would not work on iPhone (5, IOS 7 ), more of an Apple problem/vintage inn problem than that of this hotel's. But orth being aware of if you rely on having internet access though, I also didn't have any mobile coverage
Review 128:Nice stay Friendly Staff Clean, comfortable Room with a nice view
Review 129:We didnt have time to stay longer.
Review 130:Superb place to stay-ideal location close to Glasgow, the airport and easy access into the highlands. Lovely staff and a great pub atmosphere. we will definitely be back !
Review 131:Not enough staff in bar / restaurant - piles of dirty dishes / glasses on tables Had to wait 15 minutes at bar before anyone was available to check us in .
Review 132:Good size room and good location
Review 133:The shower lacked heat.
Review 134:Lovely setting, friendly staff and comfortable room made my 2 day stay really enjoyable. The food on the restaurant was delightful and clearly popular as it was difficult getting a single seat until 8:30. Worth the wait though. The room was clean and had excellent provisions and its decor matched the building beautifully
